Texte intégralBackground: Auditor’s work involves auditing companies, this is partly done on site at the company in order to be able to collect information and then be able to do a good audit. The audit of companies in crisis situations places higher demands on the auditor, according to FAR. In 2020, the world was hit by a pandemic, which falls within the framework of a crisis situation. During the pandemic, the public health agency recommended that all companies that can work remotely should do so. Question: How has the auditors audit quality been affected by distance work? Purpose: The purpose of the study is to gain knowledge about how communications channels affect different dimensions of audit quality when these communications channels are used. The study wish to contribute with knowledge about if the audit quality changes and if so how it changes when communication happens through distance. Method: The study was conducted using a qualitative method. There are five auditors who have been interviewed through Zoom. The interviewees were chosen through a strategic selection. Results and conclusions: The results of the study showed that the audit quality was partly affected during the pandemic. Partially the audit quality has deteriorated when the auditor has chosen to conduct distance communication with new customers. In cases where the auditor has had a longer relationship with the customer, the use of distance communication has not affected audit quality in the same way. The competence of the audit firm has also been affected as communication between employees has decreased due to distance communication. The study also reports how the ability to control processes and the size of the auditing firm has been affected by distance communication.

Texte intégralDealing with the consequences of climate change is one of humanity's greatest challenges.Researchers, advocates and other actors have long tried to communicate to the public aboutclimate change, but it seems to be more difficult than expected. A paradox has arisen whichmeans that the more facts that are presented, the less concern. A clear example of where andhow it can be expressed is in the media. Another global challenge is the ongoing covid-19pandemic. At an early stage, we began to observe how different types of media started to linkthe covid-19 pandemic to climate change. Based on the background of climatecommunication and this observation, the purpose of this study is to investigate how climatecommunication is expressed during the covid-19 pandemic via debate articles. A latentcontent analysis was performed and the results was analyzed with Per Espen Stoknes modelon the five psychological barriers and theory on strategies in climate communication. Theresults show that climate communication was expressed in different ways through bothbarriers and strategies, but mainly through strategies. The study can further increase theunderstanding of how climate change can be communicated to create climate commitmentand can thus serve as a springboard for further research.

Texte intégralWell-functioning communication is very important for companies, and especially in product development projects. Historically, communication has been built around physical contact, even if it has changed recently in conjunction with globalization and digitalization where companies have used more communication at a distance. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed the conditions for companies to communicate, which have forced many companies to make quick changes to adapt how they communicate. The purpose of this report is to study which communication channels have been used in the product development process before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Focus on changes in how channels are used, if new channels have been added and the consequences. The report is a literature study in conjunction with our own interviews to gather information about communication within the product development process. The literature study has given a ground for how communication works inside of companies before the pandemic. The interviews have been focused on how the communication is presently, during the pandemic and how the communication has changed because of it, and what effects the changes have done to the work itself. Three organizations of different sizes have been studied. Two organizations experienced a big change because of the pandemic, in how they communicate and what effects it has done to their work, where the creative segment has been a challenge and the informal communication drastically diminished. Despite large readjustments, both have managed the situation well. Even some improvements with the communication are mentioned. For example, the opportunity to jump in and out of a meeting and the digital growth for employees of communication channels. The third organization has continued working in place and has not experienced any drastic changes correlated to the communication.

Texte intégralThe subject matter of this study is risk perception during a health crisis based on local risk communication. The covid-19-pandemic is a mayor health crisis for citizens all over the world. Prior science has shown that risk communication needs to reach and affect citizens so they can protect themselves from the ongoing risks. Therefore, it is important to study how citizens have perceived the risks of covid-19 from their local communicators. The purpose of this study is to examine how students on a post-gymnasium level in Jönköping municipality understood the risks of covid-19 and intended to act upon their perception of the risks based on the risk communication from Jönköping municipality, during the spring of 2020. The specific period examined is between the 15th of March and the 19th of June 2020. In order to achieve the aim, four focus group interviews with students on a post-gymnasium level in Jönköping have been conducted and analyzed through theoretically based thematic analysis. The theoretical framework used for the analysis of the focus group interviews consists of the Uses and Gratifications Theory, Protection Motivation Theory and Theory of Planned Behavior. The results of the study show that the students perceived the risks of covid-19 as severe, but that they did not intend to fully change their behavior in order to avoid the risks. However, their risk perception was not based on the communication from Jönköping municipality since very few of them had seen their communication during the spring of 2020. Instead, they used sources like the national health authority and news channels. Additionally, the students found the communication from the municipality to be too lighthearted and lacking in vital information. The results show that the students found the municipality’s’ communication about behavioral change as vague and difficult to understand, which didn’t have an impact on their intention to behavioral change.

Texte intégralPurpose: The aim of this study is to contribute with increased knowledge about the research field crisis communication and nation branding. We are interested in studying the recipients' experience of Sweden ́s management of covid-19 and whether it may change people's perceptions of Sweden as a nation and brand. Research issues: To achieve the purpose of the study, we will work on the basis of the following issues: ● How does the norwegians that the selection consist of, perceive that Sweden ́s crisis management of covid-19 has been handled? ● Which media channels have been important in shaping the image of Sweden's crisis management? ● Has the selections image of crisis management changed how they perceive Sweden as a nation and a brand? If so, in what way? ● Is it possible to find differences in these people that makes it possible to pick out ideal types, which attributes are they characterized by? Theory: The theories that the study will be based on is: nation branding, public diplomacy, crisis communication, the situational crisis communication theory, the two-step hypothesis, the hybrid media system and reception analysis Method: The survey is based on a qualitative method as its data collection approach is qualitative semi- structured interviews. We wanted to reach the respondent ́s reality to get a deeper insight into their reasoning, experiences and events around Sweden's crisis management at covid-19. We were also interested in learning more about their general perceptions of Sweden as a nation and brand, and whether that image of Sweden has changed due to Sweden's crisis management of covid-19. Selection: We have limited the selection to consist of norwegians who belong to generation Y and Z. We wanted to obtain outsiders' perceptions of Sweden ́s crisis management of covid-19, norwegians were selected based on their accessibility in terms of language and closeness, but also because Norway has handled this pandemic differently compared to Sweden. Results: The results and analysis of the survey resulted in two ideal types being identified in the sample. We call them Sweden skeptics and Sweden optimists. The Sweden skeptics are characterized by a critical attitude to Sweden's handling of covid-19 and the Sweden optimists are in many cases the opposite of the Sweden skeptics. The Sweden optimists are characterized by a positive attitude towards Sweden's handling of covid- 19. Common to the two ideal types is that their perceptions of Sweden have not changed due to covid-19, however, their existing perceptions have therefore been strengthened.

Texte intégralThe ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has caused deaths, risks to human health, and a global economic downturn. The pandemic led several organizations worldwide to consider the public health authorities' restrictions and implementing teleworking for organizations' continued survival. The auditing industry has not been an exception when it comes to implementing teleworking. Rapid globalization has enabled significant developments in digitalization, which many auditing firms have embraced. As a result, today's auditing industry is more equipped with digital tools than a few years ago. As a result, the auditing industry has been unknowingly preparing to implement teleworking due to Covid-19. However, the impact of teleworking on audit quality is an unexplored area at the time of writing. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to contribute knowledge about how the increased teleworking during Covid-19 has affected auditing quality. In our study, two different areas are crossed, audit quality and telework. Many factors that can affect audit quality are indirect due to the increasing telework in auditing. All factors were explored through ten qualitative interviews with auditors who have varying experiences. The majority of the respondents in the study belong to Big-4 agencies, and two respondents in the study belong to a medium-sized auditing firm. The study contributes knowledge of how teleworking affects audit quality. The study does this by examining the impact of teleworking on two different dimensions that make up audit quality, input, and process. The results show that teleworking has led to limited communication and human interaction, changes in audit methods, and lower efficiency, leading to a lower probability that errors are detected and negatively affects audit quality. Thus, the study also contributes to research on teleworking in the auditing industry.

Texte intégralAt the beginning of march, 2020, the Peruvian government decreed a state of sanitary emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Among the prevention measures, in order to prevent a massive outbreak, it was indicated that the companies must adapt and send their employees to work from home, in other words, to make use of the Home Office. This study explores the digitalization as a facilitator for managing virtual teams. The objective of this investigation is to identify the perception of the workers at the Belcorp Company regarding the Home Office and its application during the conjuncture of the pandemic of the virus COVID-19. The present work bases its analysis on an interpretative paradigm, since it studies the participant´s point of view. This project´s focus is qualitative, because it seeks to understand a phenomenon: the perception of the workers. Therefore, the information gathering strategy consists of grouping individuals that have experimented the same phenomenon. That´s why this study proposes a series of interviews that allows the understanding the perception of the workers at Belcorp Company about the Home Office.

Texte intégralThe sharing economy (SE) and specifically sharing companies with services in travel and tourism have been greatly affected by Covid-19. In connection with this, digitalization has been accelerated. The study aims to examine how the digital platform Airbnb has changed and developed new strategies during the pandemic. The aim is also to investigate how digitalization can affect Airbnb's future concepts regarding accommodation and experiences. Empirical material has been collected through 14 qualitative email interviews with the company's hosts, all of whom arrange digital experiences from different locations around the world. The material is complemented by two secondary sources in the form of podcast interviews with Airbnb founder Brian Chesky. The results showed that Airbnb has developed various strategies to be able to adapt to the pandemic, such as internal cuts, long-term stays and the concept of digital experiences. The majority of the hosts are pleased with the new concept and believe that digital experiences will remain even after the pandemic. Regarding the future effect of digitalization on Airbnb's concepts, digitalization can have major effects in such a way that more people travel physically because they now see the opportunity to work remotely and take the work with them on trips. At the same time, social behaviors such as distancing will remain after the pandemic and alternatives such as VR and AR may become more relevant in the company in connection with continued digital experiences.

Texte intégralSmall businesses are currently one of the industries struggling most with their survival in the current crisis. With the help of social media that can be the most effective platforms in a crisis, small businesses can spread information and create a more personal relationship with their customers (Alves et al., 2020). During a crisis, it is incredibly important that communication takes place on an ongoing basis as new customers are needed for the store to survive in the coming period. The pandemic has contributed to the fact that many small businesses are expected to close, but it is too early to see any clear effects of this (Fairlie, 2020). Awareness of the importance of crisis communication creates more community and participation among employees in the organization (Heide et al., 2012; Reynolds et al., 2007). Crisis communication has become more important than ever and a necessity for small businesses, and therefore the authors believe that a study of small business approaches in how they work with crisis communication on their social media is timely given the pandemic. The purpose of the study is to investigate how small businesses work with crisis communication on social media. The authors have chosen to examine respondents who work in fashion-oriented small companies to obtain clear factors that Covid-19 has contributed. The theoretical frame of reference is based on Covid-19 and social media. Previous research on small businesses and crisis communication shows a knowledge gap, which the study must some extent fill. The study is conducted with interviews through the qualitative survey method. For collected empirical data, semi-structured interviews have been conducted with five store managers. The respondents were selected by three criteria, that they must be a small business, be influenced by Covid-19 and finally use social media. Through an analysis, a result has emerged, with the help of collected data and the theoretical frame of reference. The results of the study show that all interviewed small businesses are affected by the crisis, but that they do not possess sufficient competence for the work with crisis communication on social media, which previous research emphasizes as crucial.

Texte intégralHow authorities communicate during times of crisis plays a crucial part in how society and commerce manages a crisis. This descriptive analysis examines how the Swedish public health authority Folkhälsomyndigheten has communicated during two pandemics, Covid-19 and Ebola, in goal of depicturing how a Swedish government agency has communicated whilst handling a serious risk to public health. The study has applied a quantitative content analysis to examine a large number of publications and measure theoretically interesting properties in Folkhälsomyndigheten’s communication. Central rhetorical concepts have been operationalized and measured in order to fill what we perceive to be a research method gap, the quantitative rhetorical analysis. Two samples have been drawn from Folkhälsomyndigheten’s news archive; a complete sample of Ebola publications (N=12), and a sample of Covid-19 publications (n=83), resulting in a total of 95 units. The data analysis of the publications was performed using the data analysis program SPSS. Our study found that Folkhälsomyndigheten’s risk communication was dynamic and adapted to how severe a crisis was and how it developed. For example, the agency manifested the risks when Covid-19’s development was alarming, and the other way around when the development was less alarming during summer months. The agency primarily holds an advisory role in times of crisis; in almost 9 out of 10 cases one or more appeals or guidelines to the general public is apparent, on how society should adapt to Covid-19. Furthermore, our analysis shows that the agency bases their arguments on facts and statistics evidence (e.g. documentation or research reports) in more than 70 percent of the cases. Which suggests a rational persuasion tactic. The study exemplifies how a quantitative rhetorical analysis can be executed, and thus fills a research gap. In addition, the study discusses the pros and cons of converting (operationalizing) theoretical concepts to measurable variables.

Texte intégralIntroduction Patients with suspected or established Covid-19 infection arrive to the emergency department. Nurses must be able to provide all patients with good and safe care based on current laws and routines. Patients with suspected or established covid-19 can rapidly deteriorate, which means that nurses are faced with challenges in care with and around these patients. To be able to take care of patients with suspected or established covid-19, nurses must wear personal protective equipment. Aim To describe nurses' experiences of providing safe care for patients with suspected or established covid-19 infection within the emergency department. Method The study was conducted using a qualitative method with an inductive approach. Data collection was done through ten semi-structured interviews with nurses in the emergency department in southern Sweden. Qualitative content analysis was performed on the collected material. Results Three categories with subcategories emerged: Challenge with isolation care (time consuming, staffing and contact): Work environment (mental impact, physical impact and secureness (security): Changed way of working (logistics, knowledge, routines and premises). Conclusions To provide safe and secure healthcare in emergency department during ongoing pandemic, there must be correct prerequisites, like customized premises for isolation care, evidence-based routines, personal protective equipment, adequate staffing, time for patients and time for recovery.

Texte intégralBackground and Problem: Banks play an important role in the financial system. Previous financial crises and scandals have often been related to inadequate management of strategy and internal control within banks. The importance of an effective internal control and thus internal communication within banks has therefore become ever greater. It is through the internal communication process that organizations’ strategic goals and values are made clear to employees, which forms the basis of their corporate culture. Achieving effective internal communication that both engages and includes employees is becoming increasingly important, considering the high rate of change and uncertainty that characterize the society. Aim: The purpose with this study is through a perspective of office managers to investigate how Svenska Handelsbanken AB’s internal communication process is described, as well as how it is related to the banks corporate culture and its strategic goals and values. Method/Empirics: To answer the aim of the study the author has performed semi-structured interviews with six (6) office managers working for Svenska Handelsbanken AB. Additionally a document study of selected documents was done to reinforce the credibility of the study. The empirical data has been analyzed through theoretical subjects such as strategy, corporate culture, and organizational communication. Conclusion: The study shows that internal communication is a complex area to handle within Svenska Handelsbanken AB. The decentralized structure of the organization adds responsibility for each office to develop its internal communication. The study shows that the interviewed office managers have a good understanding and knowledge of the bank’s strategy, goals, and values. This is achieved through a flexible two- and three-way communication process. The results also indicate that, in some cases, daily practice within the offices precedes more formal policies.

Texte intégralGovernments are increasingly turning to social media platforms such as Twitter to disseminate public health information to the public, as evidenced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this paper is to gain a better understanding of Canadian government and public health officials' use of Twitter as a dissemination platform during the pandemic, and to explore the public's engagement with and sentiment towards these messages. We examined the account data of 93 Canadian public health and government officials during the first wave of the pandemic (December 31, 2019 – August 31, 2020). Our objectives were to: 1) determine the engagement rates of the public with Canadian federal and provincial/territorial governments and public health officials' Twitter posts, 2) illustrate the evolution of the Canadian public discourse during the pandemic's first wave by a hashtag trends and 3) provide insights on the public's reaction to the Canadian authorities' tweets through sentiment analysis. To address these objectives, we extracted Twitter posts, replies and associated metadata available during the study period in both English and French. Our results suggest members of the public demonstrated increased engagement with federal officials' Twitter accounts as compared to provincial/territorial Twitter accounts. Hashtag trends analyses illustrated the topic shift in the Canadian public discourse, which initially focused on COVID-19 mitigation strategies and evolved to address emerging issues such as COVID-19 mental health effects. Additionally, we identified 11 sentiments in response to officials' COVID-19 related posts. This study illustrates the potential to leverage social media to understand public discourse during a pandemic. We suggest that routine analyses of such data can provide real-time recommendations to government and public health officials on public sentiments during a public health emergency and can provide useful insights on the accounts/actors with which members of the public are most engaged, which can be leveraged to disseminate key messages.

Texte intégralBackground: Covid-19 was classified as a pandemic in the beginning of 2020. This forced health care professionals within elderly care, emergency departments, intensive care units, and infection wards with focus on care of patients with covid-19 to work under high pressure, which has been highlighted by various media. Despite playing an important role within covid-healthcare, radiographers have not been acknowledged to the same extent. Aim: To highlight radiographers’ experiences of their role in the covid-healthcare when performing computed tomography examinations of patients who are suspected or confirmed to have covid-19. Material and method: This study has a qualitative design and is based on semi-structured interviews with five radiographers from two radiology departments in Sweden. Results: Covid-19 has led to a change in the work situation for radiographers where a new patient group requires new routines, including more planning and time. The radiographers’ role in covid-healthcare is perceived to be unseen by other departments. Conclusion: The participants' experiences of stress, uncertainty and time spent due to covid-routines affect their work, but have changed during the pandemic as these routines have become part of their daily work. Radiographers are providing patients with good care in connection to the examination, which has been and still is a challenge due to protective equipment feeling obstructive.

Texte intégralThis study aimed to analyze how the crisis with the pandemic Covid-19 has been handled within the real estate company AMF Fastigheter and to evaluate how well the crisis management plan has been implemented during the crisis. The study was of a qualitative form where interviews were conducted with people who are in leading positions at AMF Fastigheter. The results showed that AMF Fastigheter has benefited from following a predetermined crisis management plan that contains information on what is to be done and communicated during the crisis. On the other hand, some improvisation has taken place over time since they were sometimes faced with new foreign situations, which is why it can be argued that companies should be open to certain improvisation. Furthermore, the results also showed that personal characteristics and previous experience from crises among employees have been valuable. However, the results showed that there have sometimes been too many employees involved in decision-making processes, and that hasty decisions were sometimes made, which in some cases also needed to be clarified.

Texte intégralBeing a leader in the public sector at a ward in an emergency hospital in the midst of a prevailing pandemic creates difficulties. The work must continue to function as usual in the organization, despite the large global spread of the Covid-19 virus. The focus is on the ward's two unit managers and their work to lead their working group for a safe and secure workplace that must also be patient-safe. The biggest focus in the essay is on how the unit managers and employees worked during the spring of 2020. The essay is based on conducted interviews with the two unit managers and their views on what it has been like to lead their working group during a pandemic. A survey was also conducted, which aimed to integrate employees' views on leadership as the width contributes to an interesting aspect of the essay. The purpose of the study is to gain an understanding of whether leadership changes during a crisis and how leaders, together with employees, take on such a task. The study is based on qualitative and quantitative research methods. The results of the study show that the unit managers considered that communication was the biggest difficulty and change in the ward. By always having open office doors, they wanted to show their employees that they were welcome, for example if they felt worried or had a topic to discuss. The unit managers' idea with this was that they contribute to a community when all physical meetings have been canceled and a lot of social contact has been left behind during the pandemic. This is due to the restrictions that have existed regarding how many people can gather in a group.

Texte intégralScientific communication has evolved a lot in recent years. The interest of scientists and journalists in disseminating information has increased, as has the interest of the society in receiving scientific information. However, there are still problems in getting science to the general population correctly. This thesis analyzes the current situation of scientific dissemination, specifically the biomedical one, and seeks waysto improve it. Seeing itself completely immersed in the Covid-19 pandemic, research has focused on crisis biomedical communication and how it has changed as a result of the onset of the disease. Through interviews and surveys of biomedical communication professionals and biomedical students, several interesting results are revealed: the need to invest more public funds in scientific dissemination, the desire of future biomedical researchers to receive more training in communication and the importance of the bidirectionality of scientific information.

Texte intégralIn 2020, the world was hit by a pandemic, a widespread virus called Covid-19 that has negatively affected both organizations and individuals around the world, which has shown that successful crisis communication is important for organizations. Because of this, it is important that the organization has knowledge of how to adapt its crisis communication in social media to the type of crisis that Covid-19 is. Therefore, this essay focuses on crisis communication in social media for the professional group of communicators during a pandemic like Covid-19. The purpose is to investigate and identify factors that are important for the professional group of communicators when they are to communicate in crisis on social media, as well as to investigate and identify the most important characteristics of social media to use during a pandemic such as Covid-19. The essay is based on empirical material in the form of interviews and the method used is a qualitative methodological approach with semi-structured interviews, with the intention of studying the knowledge and experiences that the respondents possess. The thesis is also supported by research in the use of social media during a pandemic and the role of the communicator during a pandemic that together builds a pre-understanding of the subject. The essay results in six important features of social media that can be used in a crisis such as Covid-19 and five theoretical and practical factors that are important for the communicator to start from in crisis communication during a pandemic. The six important characteristics of social media are dissemination, measurability, ownership, external monitoring, source of information and dialogue. The five factors that the essay resulted in are the situation, resources, factual and fact-based information, fast communication process and interaction. The factors can generate a successful crisis communication during Covid-19 and similar crises.

Texte intégralThe COVID-19 pandemic meant a new set of challenges and changes for individuals that we just needed to adapt to. Many countries were hit with the crisis and this affected not only their public health systems but their economies, markets, jobs, income, etcetera. Peru, particularly, was hit with the virus in early March of 2020, but it only took a couple more days for it to grow so much that the government had to install measures such as a nationwide quarantine and social distancing policies, while also declaring the country in State of Emergency. This situation hurt the Peruvian market and its many players. Nonetheless, some sectors managed to evolved thanks to the rise of ecommerce, specially the financial and banking sectors, led by institutions such as Visa, Mastercard, and many banks. However, while growing online, people still needed to consume information from the physical world. Thus, companies and the State had to find a way to share messages while maintaining the calm and tranquility necessary. In this line, this paper will further intrude into one of these players, Mastercard, communicational responses and it’s use of public relations as an adequate tool to accomplish said goals.

Texte intégralThis case study is based on Research through Design (Frayling, 1993), i.e. the purpose of the study is to generate new knowledge through analysis and design of computer games. To achieve this an annotated portfolio and its underlying principles are used (Gaver, 2012; Bowers, 2012). The annotated portfolio consists of four selected computer games and one designed by the authors. This portfolio is analysed to define what design features are shared or not shared between the games. After this, arguments are presented as to why the specified features can make educational computer games more effective in the purpose of educating about or to reduce susceptibility to mis-/disinformation in the specific learning context. The danger of mis-/disinformation is illustrated through the context of the work with the designed computer game, which is based on COVID-19 mis-/disinformation and its consequences. Results are achieved after analysis of the four selected computer games has been carried out and data has been generated to enable the development of the authors own game.
