Life-design counselling discourse originator, Mark Savickas, calls for its expansion from an individual intervention to encompass interpersonal and intimate relationships. In this article, a fictitious foreign-service couple – configured from the author’s recent case files for authenticity – illustrates use of a modified Career Construction Interview in life-design counselling for resolution of life–career conundrums commonly experienced by dual-career couples. Practical models and seminal resources are identified for those unfamiliar with the dual-career couple construct or inexperienced with couple counselling. A strategy and topics for future field research collaboration between academics and career practitioners are suggested.

Résumé :
The economic perception of earthquake resistance construction for medium- to high-rise RCC buildings is examined in this paper. The conventional way of creating high-rise buildings is not financially viable without a shear wall to withstand seismic energy. Framed structures with irregular floor plans that vary in size, shape, and geometry are also expensive. Many studies have been conducted recently on the Coupling Ratio (CR). The current analysis investigates the behavior of the coupled shear wall and the CR for an affordable earthquake resistance construction including the shear wall within a range of 30 % to 45 %. The study shows that shear walls could be reduced at 40–50 % and at 60–70 % of the base height for regular and irregular buildings, respectively. The current study also comes to the conclusion that coupled shear wall earthquake-resistant construction is more practical than the conventional approach because couple beams can be repaired with ease.

Rafael, Susana.

This doctoral thesis focuses on the study of "attachment and its relationship to the profile of the couple," an approach that attributed to interactions experienced in childhood and adolescence an important role on the process of personal and emotional development. We analyze the features and how to interpret interactions experienced in the emotional, familiar and group of pairs context, during childhood and adolescence. We identify the influence of these characteristics in the way of being and living the current emotional relationships. In this research we used a mixed methodology which consists of a cognitive analysis (from the realization of a "pre-study" and a "Questionnaire") and a clinical analysis (by the studies of case) face to face with the Portuguese population is the basis of this analysis. Thus, this thesis focuses, in particular, the influence of attachment in the experience of romantic relationships in couples

Facing crisis, farm-firms try to offer differentiate product adapted to needs of supermarket-firms. Elaboration of this couple product/market could only be achieved through a couple product/partner. Moreover, agricultural policy is looking for local development based on European quality signs. Central thesis questions is : what are cohesion process individual and collective strategies? Minor one's : what are "meta-rules" strategic partnerships used in co-construction of "structuration" and "justification"? Main hypothesis is : cohesion of individual and collective strategy is voluntary dynamic force of strategic information system collective construction. Couple "product/territory" adapted this baseline to farming industry. Research intents took part into thought and action on phenomenal description. Orientated project systemic model of small farm-firms and of couple product/territory is proposed. Characterized by "identity alterity", small firms are estimating their cohesion space with couple product/territory through cohesion loops. These links are running by two "metarules" which are information and quality. Couple product/territory is constructed through "identity alterity" - "structuration potentialisation" loop. Structuration refered to justification. Justification hanged on relationships with customers and with "legitimacy makers". Couple product/territory has to make initiator "meta-rules" become operational. Using quality management tools and information system allowed self-confidence and confidence. Exploration study showed interest into escaping from agronomics "terroir" for insisting on collective strategic goodwill: couple product/territory. "Apple(s) from Alpes" case suggested method for research on small firms strategic partnerships

Ghossain, Anne-marie. « La construction identitaire de l’homme violent ». Thesis, Lyon 2, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011LYO20081.

This qualitative and exploratory research is about the construction of the identity of the violent married man in Lebanon. It is based on different sources, the violent man, the battered woman discourse (biography, court records, and questionnaires) and the discourse of non-violent resource-person. The construction of the identity of the violent man in Lebanon is related to the patriarchal system which is strongly anchored in the culture, institution and life of the Lebanese. In this environment man evolves into three prototypes:- The masculine: dominant, protector, provider, aggressive.- The feminine: submissive, housewife, available, soft.- The couple: the clamping of the two other prototypes in one complementary sexist relationship. The masculine violence can reflect the man’s place in the couple (symbolic violence, spontaneous violence), and can also show the willingness to conserve the patriarchal order in the family because every evolution of prototypes especially the women’s role is felt by man as a threat against his masculinity (interaction violence). Violence is accentuated because Lebanon is a society under stress, which permanently distorts the masculine image. The identity trajectory of the Lebanese violent man shows that he has an authoritarian and severe father figure, or a feeble one. His mother can be overbearing, absent or ambivalent. Concerning the couple, the violent man searches for the fusional couple because it reflects perfectly the sexist patriarchal complementarity. The Lebanese social patriarchal order is in perpetual reproduction generating sexist man ready to become violent. The woman is surrounded by violence, and shame feeling of being a battered woman and/or divorced woman, and because of the others that are sexist: parents, friends, society institutions and concerned responsible. The struggle against violence can only be total: it must be against violence, gender inequality and against patriarchal society

Talking about extraconjugality in French-speaking fiction means looking through works in which the authors deploy, through their writing, the ins and outs of this practice. Indeed, the four authors coming from diverse backgrounds each offer a unique reading of the practice of extraconjugality. This work reveals all the facets of extraconjugality, good and bad, which contributes to the stabilization of the family or not. On the one hand, we have couples who relied on extramarital life to realize that they were made for each other, and on the other hand, families who have completely broken up. In the second scenario, the breakdown of the family serves as the basis for the creation of a new home. A second problem underlies this work of scientific analysis, it is that of extraconjugality which enslaves. We demonstrate how the character who cheats is kept under the yoke of his partner because he is driven by the fear of the discovery of his deviations

The present Ph. D. Dissertation is concerned, as its title suggests, with the construction and deconstruction of the couple in Wallachia during the eighteenth century. The thesis is structured according to two major steps in the life of couple : the way in which a family created and the failure related to divorce. The source material of my dissertation consists of the unpublished judicial archive produced by the ecclesiastical court of justice. This important institution functioned without interruption between 1738-1964 beside the Bucharest Metropolitan church. It attributions covered the matrimonial cases as welle as those related to the "bad morals". My analysis is a social historical one ; my primary aim was to rebuild the daily life of the social actors of marriage history, using the methodological tools of the history of mentalities, micro-history, or social anthropology. The first part of the thesis offers an analysis of the Orthodox Church in Wallachia as an institution, which sets the norms and recommendations regarding the life of the individuals. My research dwelled mostly on the judicial practices of the ecclesiastical court of justice, which revealed the tight connection between the subject and his/her community. The second part of the dissertation follows closely each step of the long adventure of a couple : the choice of the partner, the dowry, the engagement, the wedding, and all related rituals. Beside the social and religious factors, the economic considerations played a major role in establishing a new family. The third part of the thesis analysed the discourses emerging around the failure of a couple. Divorce had been always accepted and garanted by the Orthodox Church but only on sollid grounds, specified by the canon law : bad treatment, adultery, abandonment of the conjugal home, illness, or one of the partner's retreats into a monastery. The conclusion sums up the main findings of th thesis and sets tasks for further research

This study aims to investigate the influences of the families of origin regarding the construction of the conjugal bond in the new couple. Therefore, we did a study using both quantitative and qualitative methods. We selected a young couple (husband 27; wife 28), without children, and whose parents were alive. Initially, a questionnaire investigating the parent´s conjugality (QCP) as perceived by their children, was applied to each member of the couple. Later, we interviewed the couple and their respective parents, making up a total of six subjects. The conjugal dynamic of the new subsystem, the couple, is related to the interactional patterns established in their families of origin. We observed that relational models repeatedly appeared in three generations: in the grandparent´s generation, in the parents and in the new couple. In this transmission some contents of the heritage were transformed, while others were reproduced without further elaboration, both in the second, and mainly in the third generation, that is, the new couple. The discussion of the material obtained was based in psychoanalytic and systemic theories. We concluded that generational influences mark the construction of the conjugal bond, establishing a foundation for conjugal identity, sometimes in a constructive manner and other times inciting conflicts.

This work focuses on how French and Spanish young adults build their identities until they reach total autonomy and independence from their parents. Researching this subject I have tried to demonstrate that young people from both countries not only do not leave their parents'home at the same age but that they also follow different patterns in order to build their selves until they reach total autonomy and independence from their parents and start a life with a partner. In both countries there are different patterns regarding the way young people become autonomous. (. . . )

The transition into adulthood is a process spread in time. It starts with people moving from their parents' homes, graduating and integrating the labour market, and moving into a coupled life. In a society with rising educational achievements, the timing of these life transitions has changed. Most students move into independent housing arrangements during their studies even though the majority are still financially dependent on parents. Full integration into the labour market happens at a later stage and most students have temporary jobs while studying. Moreover, most students do not settle down into a coupled life until the end of their education with few of them getting into couples during this phase. Throughout this thesis, these different events are studied in order to explore the complex transmissions into adulthood. This work relies on retrospective longitudinal data combining both the quantitative DEP Panel of 1989 and additional qualitative data based on 53 interviews. These data were used to identify a typology of modes of transition into adulthood and to shed light on the interactions between the different spheres: Study, employment, cohabitation, and the birth of children

AbstractThe chapter shows the interconnectedness of nationalism with the construction of the self and close relationships by studying the romantic correspondence of a Finnish nationalist couple in the mid-nineteenth century. Eiranen analyzes personal nationalism by looking at how nationalism was incorporated in the self-narrations of the letters and identifies emotions and gender as central elements in the construction of the national experience. The nationally interpreted male and female ideals formed the basis for the emotional relationship. The cause required gendered sacrifices, partly contradictory to the stereotypes: the man cast himself as an emotional national hero, the woman had to exercise stronger emotional control for his benefit. The chapter argues that the power of nationalism lay in its tight connection to profound, personally experienced meanings and motivations.

Construction Grammar is a theoretical approach amenable to accommodating any conventional feature of the meaning or form of a construction as part of its description, including lectal information. This paper provides a constructional analysis of the quotative que construction in Spanish, focusing on discourse and geographical variation. It demonstrates that a model based on different levels of generalization (parent schemas vs. subschemas) allows us not only to describe the specific contexts in which constructions are used (subschemas), but also to incorporate geographical and discourse variation that could not be captured at a higher level of abstraction (parent schema).

AbstractIn the preface to the first edition of the Critique of Pure Reason Immanuel Kant compares sceptics to nomads, who despise the cultivation of soil and therefore dissolve the civic communities of their opponents from time to time (Kant 1929). This process of construction and destruction continues afterwards. Although scepticism and relativism are two different philosophical positions, relativists may show enough similarities with sceptics to count them among Kantian nomads. Historiographical relativists despise the claim that a settlement was always built on the same foundation. This raises a couple of questions: Who are these people? What are their reasons? What is more basically their general motivation? And how convincing are both—their reasons and their motivations?

Résumé :
The present contribution investigates verb-particle constructions formed with atras ‘back(wards)’ in Old Spanish, against the background of the typological change from (mostly) satellite-framed patterns in Latin to the predominantly verb-framed strategies in the Romance languages. The study innovatively combines diachronic Construction Grammar with a functional-onomasiological perspective. This means that VPCs are studied relative to “competing” strategies of motion encoding such as instantiations of the prefix-construction [re-V] ‘V back’ and newly formed path verbs such as tornar/volver ‘turn/go back’. The diachronic study shows that VPCs are in principle available at all language stages of Spanish. Moreover, the onomasiological perspective suggests that the observed “rise” of VPCs in Old Spanish could in fact be related to constructional micro-changes occurring among path verbs and instantiations of [re-V]. Within this network of functionally related constructions, VPCs prove to form a transparent and potentially expressive, mostly intransitive pattern to encode directed motion meanings.

Résumé :
The construction sector faces an uncertain operating environment in 2023 – a trend in all global markets. Components of this uncertainty – a seemingly never-ending health crisis, the war in Europe, supply chain snarls, fixed-price contracts in a hyperinflationary environment, the shifting nature of the workforce, and an emerging response to environmental and social challenges – are complex and require a holistic response from all industry stakeholders. In the last three years, every sector of the economy, irrespective of maturity level, had to embrace changes supported mainly by technology. The construction sector was also swept up by this irreversible change seeing a significant acceleration in technology adoption and reconfiguration of processes and practices. Couple this with the changes driven by the Industry 4.0 framework, and the construction sector can leapfrog to more efficient production processes, business models, and value chains. The past three years have brought the following five technological megatrends to the forefront: 1. Prefabrication and advanced manufacturing 2. Robotics and automation 3. Big data, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and predictive analysis 4. Internet of Things and digital twins 5. Realtime data capture using drones, laser scanners, and other devices With these megatrends and the progress in building information modelling and common data environment, the construction sector is now at an inflection point. A holistic paradigm that combines these emerging trends into a new operating model is needed. In this session, the speaker provides Industrialized Construction as this new operating system upon which our sector can continue to innovate. Industrialized Construction promises to reshape how we design, construct and operate our built assets. It is envisioned that the current challenges the industry faces can be overcome using this framework. This talk will discuss the key concepts, opportunities, and challenges of Industrialized Construction.

Résumé :
For the remediation of contaminated sediments, leaching importance is growing as it helps in the recovery of materials for civil engineering. In this work, lightweight aggregates were developed in the absence of cement through cold-bonding pelletization process from contaminated marine sediments and industrial wastes. After the physical and chemical analysis of the materials, a couple of mixtures were designed which consisted of coal fly ash (CFA) and slag (collected from the blast furnace), alkali activated solutions and water. Mix design 1 (sediment with greater content of water and fluidifier) shows optimal results for metal leaching. The metal leaching was found to be dependent on the porosity, density, and morphology of the aggregates. The mechanical characterization tells that aggregates can be used for pavement construction. It could be concluded that the cold-bonding pelletization process presents a sustainable solution to recycle waste and contaminated materials.

Résumé :
Squeeze film dampers (SFDs) are used in high speed rotating machinery to reduce rotor vibration amplitudes and to isolate transmitted loads through the bearing support structures. SFDs are also effective means to ameliorate destructive subsynchronous vibrations excited by hydrodynamic bearings, seals, impellers and other unknown sources. Modern jet engines demand lighter and flexible structures with compact components to obtain the largest power to weight ratios. This current trend makes evident rotordynamic phenomena that must be adequately addressed by dissipation elements such as SFDs. Integral squeeze film dampers (ISFDs) incorporating built in elastic supports are of reduced weight and length, offer accuracy of positioning, and a split segment construction allowing easier assembly, inspection and retrofit. Yet ISFDs require of extensive experimentation to verify their dynamic forced performance and to prove their reliability for applications on high performance turbomachinery. Measurements of the synchronous response of a test rotor supported on ISFDs and due to couple-imbalances are hereby presented. Masses inserted at two axial planes in the rotor and out of phase by 180° excite the second (conical) mode of vibration of the test rotor. Peak rotor responses at the second critical speeds, vertical and horizontal, allow the determination of amplification factors from which system damping coefficients for the rotor conical motions are extracted. The measurements verify the damping capacity of ISFDs to reduce (conical mode) rotor vibrations.

Résumé :
Abstract The coupling between the disk and spindle vibration modes of a rotating disk-spindle system is analyzed through the free vibrations of a rotating, flexible spindle with N attached flexible disks. The spindle is modeled as an extensible Kirchhoff-Love rod and the disks as Kirchhoff plates. Couplings between the longitudinal, torsional and flexural deformations of the spindle and the transverse and in-plane motions of the disk are studied analytically. A kinematically rich model captures couplings that have not been predicted previously. Discretization of these modes as a series of orthonormal functions allows for the construction of the characteristic matrix. The structure of this matrix is exploited to partition the eigenvalue problem into six natural classes and to provide simple, exact rules governing the coupling between the modes of the disk-spindle system. The longitudinal spindle vibration modes and the zero nodal diameter transverse disk modes are coupled inertially at all rotation speeds. The torsional spindle modes couple to the zero nodal diameter in-plane disk modes at all non-zero rotation speeds. This coupling is absent in a stationary disk-spindle system. For non-zero rotation speeds, the flexural modes of the spindle in the two orthogonal planes containing the undeformed spindle centerline and the one nodal diameter transverse and in-plane disk modes couple. The one nodal diameter transverse disk modes couple to the one nodal diameter in-plane disk modes through the flexural compliance of the spindle; this coupling cannot be observed through study of the disk alone.

The majority of experimental research conducted on the hydrodynamics of High-Speed Crafts (HSC) has been done in towing tanks. This presents a couple of issues; towing facilities are expensive, and the ideal conditions of the tank create a disparity between experiment and open water performance. Free-running models tested in open water can overcome some of these limitations. This paper presents the detailed design of a free-running model for open water experimental application. The model development includes hull construction, design and integration of a propulsion & steering system, data acquisition system (DAQ) design and testing, as well as environmental monitoring methods.

Résumé :
Abstract In order to enhance the comprehension of the welding procedure qualification standards, RCC-M (Design and Construction Rules for Mechanical Components of PWR Nuclear Islands) and ASME BPVC (American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code), used by the components fabrication for nuclear power industry in the People’s Republic of China, this paper takes the qualification of dissimilar metal joint between inlet-nozzle and safe end of steam generator in Generation III nuclear power unit as an example, taking a comparative approach, compares the requirements of different welding variables one by one between two standards and then lists the differences and analyzes the differences. It shows that RCC-M has more strict requirements than ASME BPVC on the qualification of dissimilar metal joint with buttering, the type of test couple qualified by RCC-M is more similar to product than that by ASME BPVC, and qualification by RCC-M may need more test couples than that by ASME BPVC, if choosing same value of variables which have overlap between these two standards, test coupon qualified by RCC-M can used for that qualified by ASME BPVC, but not vice versa. At last, the paper gives some implementation advises and guidance of subsequent qualification works during design and fabrication.

Résumé :
Bridge rehabilitation projects for enhancing the safety and serviceability of old bridges are carried out widely around the world. Especially, suspension bridges are intensively maintained with high construction budgets. The damaged hanger rope, stiffening girder and main tower in suspension bridges can be repaired, strengthened or replaced. However, in the case of a main cable, the remedy until now only removes rust and applies surface repainting. Basically, the main cable consists of thousands of small wires, which is not replaceable. A damaged or disconnected wire also cannot be repaired or replaced. This paper suggests a new method for strengthening a main cable that is deteriorated by the aging effect. By small cables connecting a couple of cable bands on both sides from a pylon, the strength of the main cable can be increased and the possibility of slip of the cable bands are decreased. This suggestion is introduced by an example of an old suspension bridge that has been opened to traffic for forty years. The reinforcing level of the main cable should be decided by the extent of damage. Hence, the level of strengthening of the main cable can be easily controlled by only the amount of ancillary cables.

Résumé :
Over the past couple of decades, building typology in rural India has seen an unprecedented shift away from vernacular material and construction techniques. The substitute - replicable, mass-produced, concrete structures fail to respond to the climatic and cultural context. In addition to being carbon intensive, inadequate knowledge about form and function of new construction methods and materials have led to poor quality construction that has a shorter life span. Compared to the existing vernacular buildings, such concrete structures are found to be uninhabitable by many end users.Studies done in the past on vernacular architecture of India focus on climate responsive design and execution, and traditional materials. However, there is insufficient research investigating the factors affecting the decline of vernacular practices. This paper assesses the reasons behind change in rural fabric of Madhya Pradesh, India, through primary focussed group discussions, key informant interviews & field observations. The study identifies diverse factors, ranging from individual preferences to policies and laws governing access to resources. It also uncovers unexpected factors such as changing food habits leading to lack of traditional construction materials. These wide-ranging factors are classified under social, technical, financial, and legal categories. The study develops a framework to analyse patterns emerging across different agro-climatic and geographic regions. Based on the findings, the paper also recommends potential interventions for reviving sustainable vernacular architecture in the region.

Construction of subsea pipelines using mechanical connections rather than welding has been proposed by various parties during the past decades and has been the subject of various studies. Despite the extensive use of mechanical connections in offshore (deep water) drilling and active marketing by various vendors, to date the use of mechanical connections instead of welding as the primary means of joining line pipe into subsea pipelines has been limited to a couple of small pilot projects. Therefore, a thorough and systematic study of the current industry status for mechanical connectors for line pipe joining has been performed. The results of the study are presented in this report, along with the assessment of the viability of mechanical connectors as alternative to welding for a range of pipeline applications.

Sadot, Einat, Christopher Staiger et Zvi Kam Weizmann. functional genomic screen for new plant cytoskeletal proteins and the determination of their role in actin mediated functions and guard cells regulation. United States Department of Agriculture, janvier 2003. http://dx.doi.org/10.32747/2003.7587725.bard.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
The original objectives of the approved proposal were: 1. To construct a YFP fused Arabidopsis cDNA library in a mammalian expression vector. 2. To infect the library into a host fibroblast cell line and to screen for new cytoskeletal associated proteins using an automated microscope. 3. Isolate the new genes. 4. Characterize their role in plants. The project was approved as a feasibility study to allow proof of concept that would entail building the YFP library and picking up a couple of positive clones using the fluorescent screen. We report here on the construction of the YFP library, the development of the automatic microscope, the establishment of the screen and the isolation of positive clones that are plant cDNAs encoding cytoskeleton associated proteins. The rational underling a screen of plant library in fibroblasts is based on the high conservation of the cytoskeleton building blocks, actin and tubulin, between the two kingdoms (80-90% homology at the level of amino acids sequence). In addition, several publications demonstrated the recognition of mammalian cytoskeleton by plant cytoskeletal binding proteins and vice versa. The major achievements described here are: 1. The development of an automated microscope equipped with fast laser auto-focusing for high magnification and a software controlling 6 dimensions; X, Y position, auto focus, time, color, and the distribution and density of the fields acquired. This system is essential for the high throughput screen. 2. The construction of an extremely competent YFP library efficiently cloned (tens of thousands of clones collected, no empty vectors detected) with all inserts oriented 5't03'. These parameters render it well representative of the whole transcriptome and efficient in "in-frame" fusion to YFP. 3. The strategy developed for the screen allowing the isolation of individual positive cDNA clones following three rounds of microscopic scans. The major conclusion accomplished from the work described here is that the concept of using mammalian host cells for fishing new plant cytoskeletal proteins is feasible and that screening system developed is complete for addressing one of the major bottlenecks of the plant cytoskeleton field: the need for high throughput identification of functionally active cytoskeletal proteins. The new identified plant cytoskeletal proteins isolated in the pilot screen and additional new proteins which will be isolated in a comprehensive screen will shed light on cytoskeletal mediated processes playing a major role in cellular activities such as cell division, morphogenesis, and functioning such as chloroplast positioning, pollen tube and root hair elongation and the movement of guard cells. Therefore, in the long run the screen described here has clear agricultural implications.

Powers. PR-373-124509-R01 Guideline for Onshore Pipeline Route Evaluation and Selection. Chantilly, Virginia : Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. (PRCI), juillet 2015. http://dx.doi.org/10.55274/r0010034.

Résumé :
Route selection for onshore pipelines has become progressively more complex over the past several decades due to ongoing land development and expansion of public and private infrastructure, coupled with increased population. During the same period, protection of the environment and avoidance of negative impact to sensitive cultural features have become paramount objectives for all cross-country pipeline projects. With these issues, regulatory and permitting requirements have become more challenging, and compliance has become more arduous. Recognizing these challenges, the Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI) initiated a project to evaluate current route selection methodologies and identify aspects in need of improvement. The final product of this effort is this guidance document, Guideline for Onshore Pipeline Route Evaluation and Selection. The route selection guideline was developed to provide pipeline owners, engineering organizations, and pipeline specialists with comprehensive guidance for onshore pipeline route evaluation and selection. The guideline is expected to benefit pipeline owners and contractors alike by eliminating or reducing costs resulting from failure to anticipate conditions that could impact construction. More specifically, pipeline construction contractors should benefit from more confident route definition that will allow the reduction of contingency items in their cost estimates.
