Résumé :
Competition generated the requirement of quick decisions at engineering activities. As a consequence, application of advanced computer modeling in engineering design needs application of intelligent computer methods to assist human decision making. A powerful CAD/CAM system with a comprehensive range of sophisticated modeling tools for describing engineering objects and programming tools for creating modeling procedures constitutes an appropriate environment to accept intelligent methods. The only way of survival for companies producing mechanical products on the competitive edge seems application of advanced modeling together with intelligent decision making. Much modeling, problem solving, database handling, visualization and other methods are involved in a typical computer-based engineering process. This process recently relies upon an integrated set of modeling tools and an integrated product database. Involving intelligent computer methods is a great challenge in this field. This paper surveys advanced modeling from the point of view of application of intelligent methods. It is organized as follows. A characterization of state of the art in advanced engineering modeling reveals important issues to be discussed in this paper. Following this, worldwide network-based group work of engineers is discussed. Human computer interaction (HCI) and network communication methods as important aspects of computer-aided engineering are outlined. Then recent development results in modeling of mechanical systems with special emphasis on integrated modeling of mechanical products, especially well-engineered shapes, are introduced. Finally, virtual manufacturing as an area of involving intelligent methods in CAD/CAM technology is discussed.

Résumé :
It has become an absolute necessity to integrate informatics into educational activities as it is in all areas of life by using innovative teaching methods in the globalized world. As in other fields, developing the knowledge and experience of students by using information technologies in music education should be one of the principles of today's education system. Utilizing computer technologies and software applications especially in the areas of music perception in order to promote the creativity and knowledge contributes to an increase in students' positive attitude towards the course by enriching the context of the course. If a complex and difficult topic, such as composing music, which is one of the upper dimensions of creativity, is supported by the computer technologies and software applications, it will obviously help students to understand the process that is very demanding and create a product. In addition, many subjects that are difficult and abstract for everyone to conceive can be made easier by means of the computer technologies and software. When the educational programs developed in recent years are examined, it can be seen that informatics is included in many learning outcomes and activities aiming to improve musical creativity. In this study, detailed information about the effect of computer-aided education on the development of musical creativity is given. Suggestions for future studies are also presented.

Résumé :
The paper proposes a hypothesis that Russia uses AI methods and supercomputers to optimize its strategy in the synergistic war. The priorities of the synergistic war and the methodology for revealing its consequences through intellectual simulation are described. Several resonant geopolitical events in the US and Ukraine that seemed to be patriotic when initiated by the presidents or civic activists but ultimately proved to be beneficial to the enemy are reviewed in this light. A new body intended for global geopolitical monitoring and management of synergetic defense of the Russian Federation is described and analyzed, which bases its work on an expert system installed on a powerful supercomputer. The importance of the information component of the synergetic war is underlined and the technologies for Data Mining modeling the media influence on a society are briefly described. It is proposed to create defense centers in NATO member countries that would be analogous to the described defense center in Russia, and it is recommended to use AI methods in their work to simulate geopolitical situations for making more effective management decisions.

Résumé :
Worldwide, considerable research efforts are being directed toward the discovery of novel drugs against human diseases. Enabling technologies have provided much knowledge about disease mechanisms, extremely sensitive assay techniques, and expanding compound libraries, and much of the information resides in computer databases. Despite this massive technological effort the number of truly new drugs available to treat disease is not that great, yet the information may well exist about them. It could be argued that the problem is not the quantity of information, nor necessarily its quality, but the ability to assimilate and act upon it. New developments in software technology, changes in the way in which users expect to interact and use computers, and the opening up and globalization of information networks will impact greatly on the pharmaceutical industry. This paper discusses these developments and provides a somewhat far-reaching vision of a future where computers play a more fundamental role in screening for new drugs.

Résumé :
At present, an increasing number of researchers and specialists in the construction industry come to the opinion that it is advisable to use a number of technologies (BIM, Smart City, Big Data, IOT and others) in the practice of construction (in the broad sense of this concept), which are united by the concept of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The result of the implementation of these technologies in the construction should be the transition to the widespread use of cyber-physical systems. The problem of using information technologies in construction today is not due to the lack of this process as such, but to the lack of consistency and consistency in it. Fragmentary nature of the application, inconsistency of the applied technologies at different levels of management and at different stages of the life cycle of construction projects sharply reduce the potential positive effect of informatization and building automation. At the same time, the concept of cyber-physical systems, that is, the integration at the system level of physical processes and controls has proven effective in industrial production. The approaches to ensuring the processes of designing cyber-physical building systems through the development and application of General mathematical models for the processes of data exchange and management are considered. The presented models of data exchange and management of cyber-physical building systems describe the processes implemented at each stage of the life cycle of cyber-physical building systems. Functional blocks of the considered models allow to describe the processes of data collection, storage and processing on the current and past stages of the life cycle of cyber-physical construction systems. The presented models are the elements of mathematical support of the processes of designing cyber-physical building systems, which determine the processes of information exchange and management between the structures of cyber-physical building systems of different levels of hierarchy in the full life cycle.

Abstract The paper deals with the development and application of computer-aided standardisation (CAS) for the distribution of standardisation data of production and maintenance processes within the company network. Rising integration pressure of company software tools also include CAx technologies. These CAx technologies provide software solutions for different applications, being able to work closely together with ERP-systems, Business Intelligence (BI) tools and further systems. The possibility of integration makes it also feasible to look on the CAS tool and its potential. While CAS is a topic not yet fully discussed, future development may lead to the requirement of integrating the CAS with the ERP and planning system. Approaches, such as CIM, digital factories (DF) and Industry 4.0 benefit from a broader database available with the CAS system employed

Résumé :
Many conventional technologies for fabricating tissue engineering scaffolds are not suitable for fabricating scaffolds with patient-specific attributes. For example, many conventional technologies for fabricating tissue engineering scaffolds do not provide control over overall scaffold geometry or over cell position within the scaffold. In this study, the use of computer-aided laser micromachining to create scaffolds for vascular tissue networks was investigated. Computer-aided laser micromachining was used to construct patterned surfaces in agarose or in silicon, which were used for differential adherence and growth of cells into vascular tissue networks. Concentric three-ring structures were fabricated on agarose hydrogel substrates, in which the inner ring contained human aortic endothelial cells, the middle ring contained HA587 human elastin and the outer ring contained human aortic vascular smooth muscle cells. Basement membrane matrix containing vascular endothelial growth factor and heparin was to promote proliferation of human aortic endothelial cells within the vascular tissue networks. Computer-aided laser micromachining provides a unique approach to fabricate small-diameter blood vessels for bypass surgery as well as other artificial tissues with complex geometries.

Résumé :
The progress status of jet-grouting construction during the construction phase is difficult to verify and even after the completion of construction, it can be verified only by empirical methods. This study attempted to recreate a realistic simulation result of the middle-pressure jet-grouting method by establishing a computer-aided engineering (CAE) system from the planning/design stage of the ground model and verifying the validity of the construction process after the model was analyzed by the moving particle semi-implicit (MPS) method. The governing parameters for the ground were determined by the MPS simulation of the unconfined compression test. The construction simulation was analyzed and the results were validated by visual confirmation of the related phenomena, such as the soil-improved body formation and mud discharge. To verify the accuracy of the mud discharge phenomenon, three different probe regions were set above the model ground and the amount of mud discharge generated in each region was computed before drawing an overall conclusion of the study. A soil-improvement body of approximately 0.38 m3 was observed to have formed at the end of the study and the highest mud discharge particle number measured, for instance, was 896. This study is expected to serve as a guideline for further studies on simulation-based research.

Résumé :
Purpose This paper aims to automate the welding operation that motion control, sensor integration and coordination with the welding power source. Therefore, there is a need for sophisticated technologies to control precisely the process in terms of positioning the welding torch, and controlling the welding parameters through the use of correct devices which are aided by appropriate control tools and techniques. Design/methodology/approach A new seam tracking methodology, named sewing technique, has been introduced for the welded joints available in computer-aided design (CAD) environment. This methodology gives the seam path by drawing a line through the adjacent centroids of curve fitted in the weld joint volume. Obtained geometric path and kinematic constraints are given as input to the modeled robot for performing welding operation followed by desired trajectory. Findings In this investigation, a novel and efficient weld seam technique has been developed to produce uniform welded joints. The key feature of this approach is that the initial and end positions of the weld seams can be obtained easily. Because of this, the robot can be controlled flexibly during welding operation. Originality/value This investigation deals with the development of an automated seam tracking methodology for the welded joints available in CAD environment. Validation of the developed methodology has been done through simulation results while performing welding operations for different weld profiles.

Résumé :
With the growth of information technologies in the field of computer-aided design, the concept of CAD acquires new meaning and changes the contents. More and more a new definitions, i.e. Building Information Modeling - BIM, Fabrication Information Modeling - FIM, Integrated Structural Modeling - ISM, Building Lifecycle Management - PLM and others are encountered, the concept of which may be described as way to develop the strategy of building project design, construction, and maintenance management based on the computer aided modeling and simulation technologies. Examine BIM application in building design process it can be assumed that of object modeling and simulation technique comprises a full range of actions starting from the development of virtual model of the project under consideration, describing all physical parameters characteristic of a real structure, defining the conditions of its position. Then analysis of model behavior under real maintenance conditions is performed: effects of different character are described and the results obtained are analyzed. The results received by next step are presented in common technical documentation form: general arrangement and erection drawings are generated, final detailing of connections and structural elements in the form of shop drawing or NC code is performed, bill of materials, cut lists, various reports, specifications and estimates are composed. During the last five years there is strong request from the market for the state-of-the-art computer-aided design applications developed to meet the needs and requirements of the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction as well as Plant, Process, and Power industries, for high performance, flexible and versatile tools with extended graphics integration to simulation and analysis systems within a user-friendly design environment that allows the close emulation of natural design phases and workflow to which structural are accustomed. This could became possible due to the innovative development of ‘new generation’ structural software application capable to maintain an intelligent and true 3D real-world simulated structure containing all the information required for the general and detailed design, fabrication and construction of engineering structures, enabling designers to operate intuitively in the adaptive high-performance real-time visual modeling environment while simultaneously achieving high-quality results by applying powerful simulation, analysis and optimization methods which would guarantee a rational and effective choice of the constructive decision. It has to be flexible to enable external best of breed vertical market products to be linked to the application and hence creating an open design environment; this enables members of a workgroup to collaborate effectively, performing the multiple tasks associated with construction design.

Résumé :
The evolution of computer aided design (CAD) systems and related technologies has promoted the development of software for the automatic configuration of mechanical systems. This occurred with the introduction of knowledge aided engineering (KAE) systems that enable computers to support the designer during the decision-making process. This paper presents a knowledge-based application that allows the designer to automatically compute and evaluate mass properties of racing cars. The system is constituted by two main components: the computing core, which determines the car model, and the graphic user interface, because of which the system may be used also by nonprogrammers. The computing core creates the model of the car based on a tree structure, which contains all car subsystems (e.g., suspension and chassis). Different part–subpart relationships define the tree model and link an object (e.g., suspension) to its components (e.g., wishbones and wheel). The definition of independent parameters (including design variables) and relationships definition allows the model to configure itself by evaluating all properties related to dimension, position, mass, etc. The graphic user interface allows the end user to interact with the car model by editing independent design parameters. It visualizes the main outputs of the model, which consist in numeric data (mass, center of mass of both the car and its subsystems) and graphic elements (car and subsystems 3D representation).

Résumé :
Introduction. An autologous bone (bone derived from the patient himself) is considered to be a ?golden standard? in the treatment of bone defects and partial atrophic alveolar ridge. However, large defects and bone losses are difficult to restore in this manner, because extraction of large amounts of autologous tissue can cause donor-site problems. Alternatively, data from computed tomographic (CT) scan can be used to shape a precise 3D homologous bone block using a computer-aided design-computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) system. Case report. A 63-year old male patient referred to the Clinic of Dentistry of Vojvodina in Novi Sad, because of teeth loss in the right lateral region of the lower jaw. Clinical examination revealed a pronounced resorption of the residual ridge of the lower jaw in the aforementioned region, both horizontal and vertical. After clinical examination, the patient was referred for 3D cone beam (CB)CT scan that enables visualization of bony structures and accurate measurement of dimensions of the residual alveolar ridge. Considering the large extent of bone resorption, the required ridge augmentation was more than 3 mm in height and 2 mm in width along the length of some 2 cm, thus the use of granular material was excluded. After consulting prosthodontists and engineers from the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad we decided to fabricate an individual (custom) bovine-derived bone graft designed according to the obtained 3D CBCT scan. Conclusion. Application of 3D CBCT images, computer-aided systems and software in manufacturing custom bone grafts represents the most recent method of guided bone regeneration. This method substantially reduces time of recovery and carries minimum risk of postoperative complications, yet the results fully satisfy the requirements of both the patient and the therapist.

Résumé :
This article serves to the larger quest for increasing our capacities as designers, researchers, and scholars in understanding and developing human-computer interaction in computer-aided design. The central question is on how to ground the related research work in input technologies and interaction techniques for computer-aided design applications, which primarily focus on technology and implementation, within the actual territories of computer-aided design processes. To discuss that, the article first reviews a collection of research studies and projects that present input technologies and interaction techniques developed as alternative or complimentary to the mouse as used in computer-aided design applications. Based on the mode of interaction, these studies and projects are traced in four categories: hand-mediated systems that involve gesture- and touch-based techniques, multimodal systems that combine various ways of interaction including speech-based techniques, experimental systems such as brain-computer interaction and emotive-based techniques, and explorations in virtual reality- and augmented reality-based systems. The article then critically examines the limitations of these alternative systems related to the ways they have been envisioned, designed, and situated in studies as well as of the two existing research bases in human-computer interaction in which these studies could potentially be grounded and improved. The substance of examination is what is conceptualized as “frameworks of thought”—on variables and interrelations as elements of consideration within these efforts. Building upon the existing frameworks of thought, the final part discusses an alternative as a vehicle for incorporating layers of the material cultures of computer-aided design in designing, analyzing, and evaluating computer-aided design-geared input technologies and interaction techniques. The alternative framework offers the potential to help generate richer questions, considerations, and avenues of investigation.
