Résumé :
In modern industrial production some of the major factors of successful development include: cost reduction of the production, im-provement of its quality, as well as help to minimise the time in market en-try. Computer-aided design and Computer-aided engineering (CAD / CAE - systems) are the most effective for implementation of these requirements. Possible use of this engineering modeling simulation in conjunction with the power and speed of high performance computing could reduce costs and time of each cycle of designing, and also significantly reduce devel-opment time. The introduction of new technologies, the use of high quality products and engagement of qualified personnel would allow businesses and organizations to get on a path of innovative development of design and production systems.

Résumé :
Competition generated the requirement of quick decisions at engineering activities. As a consequence, application of advanced computer modeling in engineering design needs application of intelligent computer methods to assist human decision making. A powerful CAD/CAM system with a comprehensive range of sophisticated modeling tools for describing engineering objects and programming tools for creating modeling procedures constitutes an appropriate environment to accept intelligent methods. The only way of survival for companies producing mechanical products on the competitive edge seems application of advanced modeling together with intelligent decision making. Much modeling, problem solving, database handling, visualization and other methods are involved in a typical computer-based engineering process. This process recently relies upon an integrated set of modeling tools and an integrated product database. Involving intelligent computer methods is a great challenge in this field. This paper surveys advanced modeling from the point of view of application of intelligent methods. It is organized as follows. A characterization of state of the art in advanced engineering modeling reveals important issues to be discussed in this paper. Following this, worldwide network-based group work of engineers is discussed. Human computer interaction (HCI) and network communication methods as important aspects of computer-aided engineering are outlined. Then recent development results in modeling of mechanical systems with special emphasis on integrated modeling of mechanical products, especially well-engineered shapes, are introduced. Finally, virtual manufacturing as an area of involving intelligent methods in CAD/CAM technology is discussed.

Résumé :
This study aims to analyze and evaluate the influence of digital technologies on the inter-action of design and manufacturing processes by representing an outlook of digital tech-nologies through developments in modeling capabilities, manufacturing techniques, mate-rial science, and design strategies. The digital era reached by the technological developments in different fields of sci-ence influenced the field of architecture, just like the others. Thus, a new kind of spa-tial and tectonic quality in architecture is emerging with the lately introduced design tools and materials that are novel to the building industry, while redefining the role of architect in this contemporary medium. The evolutionary process of Frank O. Gehry and his office, being a pioneer in using digital design and manufacturing tools in architecture, is represented with realized examples that point out the formerly discussed developments in the realm of architecture and visualize the tectonics of the digitally designed and produced buildings
culminating with the case study of Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao.

Résumé :
Studies in the history of architecture tend to focus on form, leading to a narrow emphasis on visual aesthetics. Adopting an anthropological perspective my research sets out to widen this understanding, by considering how architectural knowledge influences conceptual orientation and how this, in turn, affects the perception of the environment and subsequent decision-making processes and ways of working. Specifically the research explores the problems and potentials of the introduction of computer aided design (CAD) tools into architectural working practices and how this impacts on existing traditions and relations with the environment. The argument focuses on the relations between agents and technologies, and on the representation of these relations, working between the realms of the abstract and the material. Within the architectural design process, knowledge is shown to be situated, embodying a process of thinking and acting within a social context. This challenges the assumptions that action is controlled by an interior process of thought, and that thinking is separate from doing. My findings show that architects do not separate thinking from doing during the developmental phases of a design process. I argue that the interrelations between human perception, creativity, innovation and skill, within a group design process, should be understood in context, hot as abstractions but as grounded in the activities of persons within a field of social relations. My research focuses on the following areas: the interrelations between tools and landscapes of use; simulation, automation and control of human movements; processes of representation and transformation in the domains of vision, verbal dialogue, touch and manipulation; self-definition and identity formation within sociotechnical relations; doubt, hesitation and the creative process; problems of acquiring and sharing knowledge between disciplines and across sites; visual thinking and decision-making processes; correlates of tool-use, imitation and learning. Ethnographic material was gathered during sixteen months of fieldwork, between September 1997 and June 1999. Field research was conducted principally in Norway, Finland and Denmark. It involved thirty structured interviews, unstructured discussions, archival research, the development of a seminar and participation in a multi-disciplinary workshop involving a systems designer, a cultural historian, and an anthropologist. Professionals from the building industry, systems designers, historians of science and technology, anthropologists and philosophers were involved in the project. Interviews were conducted in Norwegian and English. The bulk of the Norwegian field research was conducted in the city of Tromso in collaboration with a number of architectural practices. During the final four months, I was working with an architectural practice in Oslo while undertaking a case study of how CAD technologies were incorporated into the design process for the new Alexandria Library in Egypt. My research shows that CAD technologies are being incorporated into working processes as means of reinforcing traditional practices. The capacity of CAD technologies to assemble diverse kinds of information is understood by a number of architects as a way of regaining control over the building process. At the same time, developments in the design of CAD technologies directly impact upon how architects understand the performative aspects of traditional knowledge systems within the architectural design process. The thesis demonstrates how anthropological studies of technology can help to understand the relations between agents and technologies in new ways. It offers an enhanced understanding of what is meant by situated action, especially with regard to the dynamic interrelations between gesture and speech. Moreover the study highlights the contribution that anthropological knowledge can make concerning the problem of human/machine communication. Finally, the thesis presents new ethnographic material in an area of the anthropology of technology - namely, architectural design - which to date has been little studied.

The Centre for Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing (CRPM) made a humble start in 1997 as a spin-off from a proposed research activity in 1995, at a stage when Technikons were still being seen as occupational training institutions rather than higher education institutions and and as such, were not funded for research. Addressing an area of high importance to the South African industry, the research activity soon grew into a research unit, commercial centre / centre of excellence, technology transfer unit and innovation support centre. Above all, the research started to impact on product development practices to deliver improved products. The paper considers the development of the available technology platforms at the CUT'S CRPM to become a technology power-house on the African continent, and how it impacted on Institutional Research Development in South Africa.

Résumé :
Dissertação para obtenção do Grau de Mestre em Biotecnologia
Viruses are highly efficient vectors that have been used for vaccination and gene therapy applications. However, their complexity renders downstream process particularly challenging since devices and strategies especially designed for virus purification are still lacking or need further optimization. After an introduction to the challenges of virus purification and the current strategies being employed, this dissertation presents the study of three different stages of the downstream process: clarification, ultrafiltration and chromatography. A novel clarification procedure based on diatomaceous earth was evaluated. Small-scale batch incubations led to the identification of Divergan RS – a synthetic non-charged material – as the most promising candidate for integration in a scalable filtration set-up. Ultrafiltration was addressed with the evaluation of cassette and hollow fiber modules. The results obtained show that cassette module with cut-offs in the 500 kDa range and highly hydrophilic materials enable complete recovery of infective Adenovirus while reducing process time in half when compared with the best hollow fibers. Despite the encouraging results with Adenovirus, the experiments using Retrovirus resulted in low yields and possible optimization strategies were identified. Membrane technology was also evaluated as an alternative to the packed-bed chromatography columns. By using a scale-down 96-well device, the impact of ligand density, membrane structure and feed conductivity were evaluated for the purification of Adenovirus by ion exchange chromatography. The hydrogel-grafted membrane with ligand density of 2.4 μmol cm-2 operated in bind/elute mode shown the best compromise between yield and purity. Overall, this thesis contributed to the advancement of virus purification field by exploiting innovative technologies.

Résumé :
Abstract Three-dimensional coordinate metrology has gained much attention in recent years. On one hand, the accuracy and repeatability of a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) are approaching the sub-micron level. On the other hand, there is hardly any part that exists of which the dimensions cannot be measured with a CMM. This paper presents the recent development and applications in three-dimensional coordinate metrology. The emphasis has been placed in the utilization of computers and integration with CAD/CAM systems. Three important technologies, namely, CAD-directed inspection, three-dimensional optimal match, and reverse engineering are presented and discussed. With computers and CAD/CAM support, three-dimensional coordinate metrology has become an active part of the computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM). Its versatility and high degree of automation have made the CMM a universal inspection machine for quality control of manufactured parts in computer integrated manufacturing.

Résumé :
The state of musculoskeletal system incidence of pupils of secondary schools remains a pressing problem in all regions of Ukraine, in spite of significant achievements in this direction. The determination of the readiness of teachers and senior students of pedagogical college for implementation of health-keeping technologies, which are aimed at creating a physiological posture of schoolchildren, to the educational process was conducted by our questioning method. 95% of teachers and 77.6% of students (according to polls) need methodological assistance for effective use of health-keeping technologies. We consider the main task of high school to be an optimization of the informational flow regarding health-keeping during the educational process and adaptation of the ways of presenting information to the perception of modern youth. The self-education has a great value for getting mastery, so it is necessary that a student or a teacher could have a wide access to both literature and electronic media. The Internet conferences, Internet sites, electronic textbooks, computer programs will be useful.

Résumé :
The Eco-Digital Fabrication (EDFAB) research project aimed to investigate how automated prefabrication technologies and off-the-shelf construction products can be employed to disrupt building industry norms. The aim of this research – conducted at the University of Auckland and Unitec Institute of Technology from 2014 onward – was to provide small-to-medium enterprises in the construction industry with a pathway to upskill and increase construction productivity through the use of these processes. The availability of automated machines and easy-to-use fabrication software is increasing dramatically and this can be paired with readily available construction products to produce novel mass-customised housing solutions. The application of basic automated technologies – such as CNC (Computer Numerical Control) routers – allowed researchers to create ‘recipes’ that can be adopted and adapted relatively easily. By no means did the research favour digital manufacture or assembly processes over traditional analogue construction techniques – the goal was to provide logical, productive and accessible blended solutions for greater affordability and flexibility in design. For example, the designed experiments were required to be built from readily available products, and used simple readymade screw fixings rather than digitally produced custom fixings or joining mechanisms. The research project aimed to generate discussion and provide recommendations on how the construction industry might support the adoption of automated prefabrication technology in small-to-medium enterprise (SME).

Résumé :
In modern conditions, innovative augmented reality technologies are actively developing, which are widespread in many areas of human activity. Introduction of advanced developments in the process of professional training of future specialists of socionomic professions in the conditions of adaptive training, contributes to the implementation of the principles of a personalized approach and increase the overall level of competitiveness. The relevant scientific article is devoted to the theoretical and empirical analysis result of conducting a psychodiagnostic study on an innovative computer complex HC-psychotest. of the features of the implementation of augmented reality technologies in the construct of traditional psychological and pedagogical support aimed at the development of emotional intelligence of the future specialist. The interdisciplinary approach was used while carrying out the research work at the expense of the general fund of the state budget: “Adaptive system for individualization and personalization of professional training of future specialists in the conditions of blended learning”. A comprehensive study of the implementation of traditional psychological-pedagogical and innovative augmented reality technologies was conducted in the framework of scientific cooperation of STEAM-Laboratory, Laboratory of Psychophysiological Research and Laboratory of Psychology of Health in Bogdan Khmelnitsky Melitopol State Pedagogical University. The theoretical analysis considers the structural model of emotional intelligence of the future specialist of socionomic professions, which is represented by two structural components: intrapersonal construct of emotional intelligence and interpersonal construct of emotional intelligence. Each component mediates the inherent emotional intelligence of interpretive, regulatory, adaptive, stress-protective and activating functions. The algorithm of the empirical block of research is presented by two stages: ascertaining and forming research. According to the results of the statement, low indicators were found on most scales, reflecting the general level of emotional intelligence development of future specialists, actualizing the need to find and implement effective measures for the development of emotional intelligence components in modern higher education and taking into account information development and digitalization. As part of the formative stage of the research implementation, a comprehensive program “Development of emotional intelligence of future professionals” was tested, which integrated traditional psychological and pedagogical technologies and innovative augmented reality technologies. This program is designed for 24 hours, 6 thematic classes of 4 hours. According to the results of a comprehensive ascertaining and shaping research, the effectiveness of the influence of augmented reality technologies on the general index of emotional intelligence is proved. The step-by-step model of integration of augmented reality components influencing the ability to analyze, understand and regulate emotional states into a complex program of emotional intelligence development is demonstrated. According to the results of the formative study, there is a dominance of high indicators of the following components: intrapersonal (50%), interpersonal (53.3%). Thus, we can say that intrapersonal and interpersonal emotional intelligence together involve the actualization of various cognitive processes and skills, and are related to each other. Empirical data were obtained as a
