Résumé :
90% of retail sales occur in physical stores. In these physical stores 40% of shoppers leave the store based on the wait time. Autonomous stores can remove customer waiting time by providing a receipt without the need for scanning the items. Prior approaches use computer vision only, combine computer vision with weight sensors, or combine computer vision with sensors and human product recognition. These approaches, in general, suffer from low accuracy, up to hour long delays for receipt generation, or do not scale to store level deployments due to computation requirements and real-world multiple shopper scenarios. We present ISACS, which combines a physical store model (e.g. customers, shelves, and item interactions), multi-human 3D pose estimation, and live inventory monitoring to provide an accurate matching of multiple people to multiple products. ISACS utilizes only shelf weight sensors and does not require visual inventory monitoring which drastically reduces the computational requirements and thus is scalable to a store-level deployment. In addition, ISACS generates an instant receipt by not requiring human intervention during receipt generation. To fully evaluate the ISACS, we deployed and evaluated our approach in an operating convenience store covering 800 square feet with 1653 distinct products, and more than 20,000 items. Over the course of 13 months of operation, ISACS achieved a receipt daily accuracy of up to 96.4%. Which translates to a 3.5x reduction in error compared to self-checkout stations.

Résumé :
Artificial photosynthesis provides a way to store solar energy in chemical bonds. Achieving water splitting without an applied external potential bias provides the key to artificial photosynthetic devices. We describe here a tandem photoelectrochemical cell design that combines a dye-sensitized photoelectrosynthesis cell (DSPEC) and an organic solar cell (OSC) in a photoanode for water oxidation. When combined with a Pt electrode for H2evolution, the electrode becomes part of a combined electrochemical cell for water splitting, 2H2O → O2+ 2H2, by increasing the voltage of the photoanode sufficiently to drive bias-free reduction of H+to H2. The combined electrode gave a 1.5% solar conversion efficiency for water splitting with no external applied bias, providing a mimic for the tandem cell configuration of PSII in natural photosynthesis. The electrode provided sustained water splitting in the molecular photoelectrode with sustained photocurrent densities of 1.24 mA/cm2for 1 h under 1-sun illumination with no applied bias.

Résumé :
Recently, the quantity of the cold store has been increased quickly. It is a key point to improve the uniformity of airflow field to the cold store. In this paper, a model of simulating cold store by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was introduced. Simple algorithm combined with Boussineq assumption was used and turbulent equation combined with standard wall function was applied to define the flow of air in the cold store. Both the structured mesh and unstructured mesh to cold store model were simulated. The simulation methods of airflow in a cold store between three-dimension (3D) technology and two-dimension (2D) technology were also discussed. The experiment was validated and proved that unstructured grid was in better agreement with the result of experiments and it was gotten that the three-dimension (3D) technology had a higher accuracy in simulation of airflow distribution. The airflow distribution in the vertical plane and horizontal plane in cold store were gotten, respectively.

The flutter analysis of a wing with an external store is presented. Because of the external store, the concentrated store mass is combined into the governing equations which are obtained using the extended Hamiltons principle. Dirac function is used to precisely consider the location and properties of the external store. The k method is used to calculate the flutter velocity. The effects of store parameters such as store mass and inertia on the flutter velocity are investigated.

Résumé :
Despite challenges associated with acquiring proprietary sales data, there exists a wealth of literature using different types of data (e.g., spending, demographic, geographic) to understand or represent different drivers of retail store sales. We contribute to the spatial analysis of drivers of retail store sales by analyzing the relative influence of road networks, demographic, and suitability variables on retail store sales within the home-improvement sector. Results demonstrate that the inclusion of variables describing the road network pattern is more influential in predicting store sales than demographic and suitability variables with linear models (e.g., ordinary- and partial-least squares regression) as well as with a non-linear mathematical model derived using artificial intelligence. The analysis builds on previous research estimating consumer spending and a big-data suitability analysis for site selection that incorporates spatial interaction models, location quotient, and other unique criteria that are typically used in isolation. The overarching contribution of our results is the demonstration that network patterns can play a critical role in retail store sales, especially when regressions, analogs, and other simple methods for site selection are used.

Abstract Objective: To explore the values of PCT and STREM-1 combined with clinical pulmonary infection score (CPIS) for evaluating ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in elderly patients. Methods: A total of 120 eligible patients were selected as VAP group, and 60 other patients without VAP were selected as control group. According to APACHE II scores, VAP group was divided into low-, medium-, and high-risk groups. The correlations of PCT, STREM-1, and CPIS with APACHE II score were analyzed. The values of PCT and STREM-1 combined with CPIS for evaluating prognosis were analyzed using ROC curves. Results: In the VAP group, serum PCT and STREM-1 levels and CPIS after mechanical ventilation significantly exceeded those of the control group and before mechanical ventilation (P<0.05). These values were higher in the high-risk group than in medium- and low-risk groups (P<0.05). They were positively correlated with APACHE II score (P<0.001). These values of the death group were significantly higher than those of the survival group 1, 3, 5, and 7 d after treatment (P<0.05). AUC of PCT and STREM-1 combined with CPIS for assessing prognosis was 0.892 (P<0.001). Conclusions: Serum PCT and STREM-1 levels and CPIS significantly increase in elderly patients with VAP, which rise with aggravation. Their combination has higher values for prognostic evaluation.

Doctoral thesis, Università degli studi di Trento, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/11572/305571.

Résumé :
Bacterial endophytes are the organisms that live inside the plant for a full or a part of their life cycle. Endophytic bacteria have captured the interest of agriculture industry due to their plant beneficial properties, such as synthesis of phytohormones, solubilization of soil nutrients, and alleviation of biotic and abiotic stresses. Several studies have reported that stress tolerant endophytic bacteria can work with a similar performance as non-stressed conditions when inoculated to the plants under stressed conditions. Combination of abiotic stresses such as salinity, drought and low nitrogen stress can have additive or agonistic effects on bacterial and plant growth, and their interactions. However, very few studies have reported the impact of combined stress on endophytic bacterial assisted plant growth promotion. Therefore, understanding the underlying mechanisms of endophytic bacterial assisted plant’s tolerance abiotic stresses may provide the means of better exploiting the beneficial abilities of endophytic bacteria in agricultural production. Thus, the aim of this thesis was to study the stress tolerance mechanisms, beneficial characteristics, and plant growth promotion characteristics of endophytic bacteria under individual and combined abiotic stresses. Transcriptome analysis of endophytic bacteria revealed that tolerance mechanisms to deal with one kind of stress is different than concurrent stresses. Salinity and drought stress largely modulated the genes involved in flagellar assembly and membrane transport, showing reduced motility under stress conditions to preserve the energy. Additionally, bacterial endophyte that can fix nitrogen was studied with maize plant growth promotion under drought and low nitrogen stress conditions. The results suggested that diazotrophic bacterial endophyte can promote plant growth under moderate individual and combined stress conditions. Plant growth promoting endophytic bacteria can be utilized as an efficient tool to increase crop production under individual and concurrent abiotic stresses.

Résumé :
Background: Due to accelerating environmental problems caused by fast fashion sustainable business solutions become increasingly important. Thus, the following thesis examines generation y’s intention to perform in-store recycling at fast fashion retailers and investigates the factors most influential on intention. Besides, it analyses if an attitude-intention gap exists. To fulfil the study’s purpose, a combination of the theory of planned behaviour (Ajzen, 1985) and the norm activation model (Schwartz, 1977) is used.   Approach: Within this study a quantitative method in terms of an online survey is applied. Based on a sample of 326 respondents, relationships between variables are analysed with Pearson correlation analysis and multiple regression. To further identify differences among groups, Independent samples t-test and ANOVA are conducted.     Findings: The study’s findings reveal that generation y generally intends to participate in in-store recycling, while the intention is significantly higher among women than men. The intention to perform in-store recycling is predominantly intrinsically motivated as it is most driven by individuals’ personal norm.    Value: The findings of our study particularly add value for fast fashion retailers and marketers by presenting a novel research model combining most relevant factors required to adequately address consumers among generation y to perform in-store recycling. This specifically allows fashion retailers to successfully establish the concept of in-store recycling. Our study is further beneficial for sustainability researchers, environmental activists, charity organisations and policy makers to create a more sustainable future.

Résumé :
This research studies the performance of a salinity gradient solar pond driving an absorption cooling system, as an alternative to a conventional electrically powered cooling system, to provide cool air for a modern single family house in the hot dry climate of Baghdad, Iraq. The system comprises a salinity gradient solar pond, a hot-water-fired absorption water chiller, a chilled-water cooling coil which cools the air in the house, and a cooling tower which rejects heat to the ambient air. Hot brine from the pond circulates through a heat exchanger, where it heats water that is then pumped to the chiller. This arrangement protects the chiller from the corrosive brine. The system is controlled on-off by a room thermostat in the house. The system performance is modelled by dynamic thermal simulation using TMY2 hourly typical weather data. TRNSYS software is used for the main simulation, coupled to a MATLAB model of heat and mass transfer in the pond and the ground beneath it. The model of the pond and the ground is one-dimensional (only vertical transfers are considered). Radiation, convection, conduction, evaporation and diffusion are considered; the ground water at some depth below the pond is treated as being at a fixed temperature. All input data and parameter values in the simulation are based on published, standard or manufacturer's data. Temperature profiles in the pond were calculated and found to be in good agreement with published experimental results. It was found that a pond area of approximately 400 m2 was required to provide satisfactory cooling for a non-insulated house of approximately 125 m2 floor area. It was found that varying the pond area, ground conditions and pond layer thicknesses affected the system performance. The optimum site is one that has soil with low thermal conductivity, low moisture content and a deep water table. It is concluded that Iraq's climate has a potential for solar-pond-powered thermal cooling systems. It is feasible to use a solar-pond-powered cooling system to meet the space cooling load for a single family house in the summer season. Improving the thermal performance of the house by insulation could reduce the required solar pond area.

Résumé :

In many forensic cases, such as mass disasters reconstruction cases, the recovered DNA is highly degraded. In such incidences, typing of STR loci has become one of the most powerful tools for retrieving information from the degraded DNA. However, as DNA degradation proceeds, three phenomena occur consecutively: loci imbalance, allele dropout and no amplification. To solve the problem of degraded DNA, redesigned primer sets have been developed in which the primers were positioned as close as possible to the STR repeat region. These reduced primer sets were called Miniplexes. Unfortunately, a few of the CODIS STR loci cannot be made into smaller amplicons. For this reason non-CODIS miniSTRs have been developed. The present study was undertaken for the population genetic analysis of microsatellite variation in four South African populations
Afrikaner, Xhosa, Mixed Ancestry and Asian Indian using eight non-CODIS miniSTR loci. These miniSTRs loci were characterized within the populations by estimating the levels of diversity of the markers, estimating the population genetic parameters, and studying the inter-population relationships. All of the miniSTRs were amplified successfully and the genetic variability parameters across all loci in Afrikaner, Mixed Ancestry, Asian Indian and Xhosa were estimated to be in the range of 3 (D4S2364) to 12 (D9S2157) alleles, the total number of alleles over all loci ranged from 100 to 204, the allelic richness ranged from 3.612 to 10.307 and the heterozygosity ranged from 0.4360 to 0.8073. Genetic distance was least between Afrikaner and Asian Indian and highest between Xhosa and Mixed Ancestry. Deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium were not observed for most of the loci. The low mean FIS (-0.027) and FIT (-0.010) and FST (0.017) values across the populations indicated low level of inbreeding within (FIS) and among (FST) the populations. The Asian Indian population showed higher levels of the inbreeding coefficient, indicating less gene exchange between it and other populations. These 8 markers can be used for genetic investigations and assessing population structure. The study contributed to the knowledge and genetic characterization of four South African populations. In addition, these MiniSTRs prove to be useful in cases where more genetic information is needed.

Résumé :
Im Projekt wurde eine alternative Speicherkonstruktion im Bereich von 500 bis 6000 m3 für den Betrieb in Solar- und Fernwärmesystemen entwickelt. Ausgangspunkt bilden große Kaltwasserspeicher in Segmentbauweise.
In the project, an alternative construction for thermal energy stores in the range of 500 to 6000 m3 was developed for operation in solar and district heating systems. Large cold water storage tanks in segmental construction are the starting point. Their construction technology offers a significant potential for cost reduction compared to welded flat-bottom tanks, but could so far not be transferred to hot water storage tanks. Due to the new design and the project objectives, the wall structure, the internals and the periphery had to be completely revised. This report provides a description of the storage system and the results of the joint project. The functionality was proven with a three-stage procedure. The planned procedure with laboratory tests on a small scale up to the test with a demonstrator on a real scale (100 m3) was necessary and purposeful. The main tasks (e.g. material testing, design, operation) were carried out by the participating research institutions in a network. The basic potential for a later application in solar local heating systems or secondary network areas of conventional district heating is given. Significant improvements were realized, especially in regard of the charging system and the wall construction. However, further optimizations and the transfer to larger storage tanks is still pending.

When the store chooses an address, only the same information as other stores can be obtained to assess whether to set up a store here. But when they use AR Augmented Reality and VR Virtual Reality to simulate the services they want to provide to their customers, and by combining the environmental and geographic factors of the physical location, get feedback from people, the information they can get will be more appropriate to their situation, help them choose the right location to set up store. This research will help the store to select addresses more accurately through AR/VR technology at a low cost, response to the development of AR/VR and 5G technology, it seems more feasible. This research use Android system to develop an easy and intuitive application, allowing users to experience virtual stores in conjunction with external environmental factors in the physical location, The user experience data is collected by questionnaire, and the results of the questionnaire analysis show how AR and VR can help the store to select the site.

In the urban business area, physical retailing stores such as electrical ap-pliances stores and clothing are the core of prosperous commercial districts. As the operating costs of the stores increase, the new retail changes the consump-tion habits and logistics needs, and the development of e-commerce also affect the transformation of the retail business model. Physical retailing stores are no longer able to meet the customer's shopping needs. Based on combining oper-ational trend of online to offline integration mode (O2O) with physical retailing stores in the business area. For the transportation situation in the business area, based on instant logistics, the motorcycle is used as a means of providing pick-up service to solve traffic congestion, inconvenient parking, and unload-ing. Therefore, this study proposes an instant response motorcycle pick-up service model for physical retailing store combined with E-commerce on business areas. Through the First Mile distribution environment in the business area, under the limitation of the carrying capacity of the motorcycle, aiming at reducing the labor cost of the courier and the pursuit of the smallest total delivery route cost, this research model is considered as an assignment and route planning problem, and this combinatorial optimization problem is solved by the Genetic Algorithms. Given the future operating trends of the new retail, the model presented in this research can provide independent business, logistics operators or business areas managers with the ability to apply an instant response motorcycle pick-up service to the retail industry in the business areas.

Résumé :
Current agriculture is facing a serious challenge of decreasing precipitation and irregular occurrence of drought periods including their unfavorable distribution during the vegetation season. This leads to growing interest in planting highly drought-resistant crops like sorghum. In comparison with other crops, sorghum excels in low water demand, though exhibits high susceptibility to low temperatures, which hampers its spread to new regions. Surprisingly, there is not enough information about the nature of sorghum's reaction to cold exposure. The aim of this diploma thesis was to describe reactions of young sorghum plants exposed to cold stress, low water availability and their combination and to verify the possibility of plant hardening through previous low-stress load. The special focus was paid to changes in carbohydrate metabolism, which plays generally very important role in plant defense reactions. The other analyzed physiological traits were leaf tissue osmotic potential, proline content and basic morphometric characteristics. Experimental design consisted of pot experiments conducted in growth chambers and the experiments performed under controlled conditions in vitro, using two sorghum genotypes "Ruzrok" and "01Z1800012". Both genotypes exhibited similar response to stress treatment....

The study of materials and their properties forms a major area of research that supports innovation and technology. Using modern scientific techniques, material scientists can explore and manipulate materials, and create new materials with remarkable properties. For example, material scientists now have the possibility of creating new materials that: combine hardness with flexibility; have the ability to store digital data; that can respond to their environment; and that can be scaffolds for the growth of new biological tissue. Materials: A Very Short Introduction begins with gold, sand, and string—representing the families of metals, ceramics, and polymers—and considers the properties and processes involved in their fabrication into objects, to show how materials science brings together engineering and technology with physics, chemistry, and biology.

The ocean helps moderate climate change thanks to its considerable capacity to store CO2, through the combined actions of ocean physics, chemistry, and biology. This storage capacity limits the amount of human-released CO2 remaining in the atmosphere. As CO2 reacts with seawater, it generates dramatic changes in carbonate chemistry, including decreases in pH and carbonate ions and an increase in bicarbonate ions. The consequences of this overall process, known as "ocean acidification", are raising concerns for the biological, ecological, and biogeochemical health of the world's oceans, as well as for the potential societal implications. This research level text is the first to synthesize the very latest understanding of the consequences of ocean acidification, with the intention of informing both future research agendas and marine management policy. In addition to the Statute itself, which contains a relatively detailed list of crimes, Articles 21 includes the Elements of Crimes, a very detailed document which unnecessarily limits the scope of the crimes listed in the Statute and reveals mistrust with regard to the Court, the Rules of Procedure and Evidence, and the case law of the Court, despite the absence of stare decisis. In order to avoid risks of non liquet, Article 21 also refers to other norms and rules of international law. Article 21 establishes a hierarchy between the sources of law it refers to. It combines a formal hierarchy, on top of which lays the Statute, with a substantial hierarchy dominated by ‘internationally recognized human rights’ (Article 21(3)).

Résumé :
In L’Abécédaire de Gilles Deleuze, a 1988-9 video interview, Deleuze discusses with Claire Parnet the crucial link between creativity, the very possibility of thinking, and animality, through the practice of “être aux aguets” (being on the lookout) for rencontres. This chapter considers how this constitutes the essential practice of the character of Hannibal Lecter, created by Thomas Harris in several novels (Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Hannibal Rising) and, more recently, portrayed in the commercial television series “Hannibal” by Mads Mikkelsen. Hannibal is portrayed as a highly refined individual who not only can sense physically the presence of any threat through extraordinary olfactory powers, but can also categorize, store and then recall any such scents/essences through a Memory Museum. In the television series, Hannibal as highly skilled culinary artist combines the results of his being “on the lookout” with an efficient and often gruesome taste for fine dining, with strategically selected guests usually uninformed about the courses on the menu. The chapter thus considers the concepts of the animal, “être aux aguets” and “refrains” in the light of fictional production, both in print and televisual form, in order to open the Deleuzian concepts to an alternate, creative reading.

Résumé :
Despite the importance of secret negotiations during the Northern Ireland conflict there is no full-length study of the use of back-channels in repeated efforts to end the ‘Troubles’. This book provides a textured account that extends our understanding of the distinctive dynamics of negotiations conducted in secret and the conditions conducive to the negotiated settlement of conflict. It disrupts and challenges some conventional notions about the conflict in Northern Ireland, offering a fresh analysis of the political dynamics and the intra-party struggles that sustained violent conflict and prevented settlement for so long. It draws on theories of negotiation and mediation to understand why efforts to end the conflict through back-channel negotiations repeatedly failed before finally succeeding in the 1990s. It challenges the view that the conflict persisted because of irreconcilable political ideologies and argues that the parties to conflict were much more open to compromise than the often-intransigent public rhetoric suggested. The analysis is founded on a rich store of historical evidence, including the private papers of key Irish republican leaders and British politicians, recently released papers from national archives in Dublin and London, and the papers of Brendan Duddy, the intermediary who acted as the primary contact between the IRA and the British government during key phases of engagement, including papers that have not yet been made publicly available. This documentary evidence, combined with original interviews with politicians, mediators, civil servants, and republicans, allows a vivid picture to emerge of the complex maneuvering at this intersection.

Résumé :
AbstractThe investigation of the four relief agencies’ organizational models – undertaken by combining analysis of websites, strategic documents and policy guidelines with fieldwork and interviews with NGO staffers – has shown the different ways in which each organization works. Exploration of the different sectors of intervention has highlighted the different roles NGOs want to have not only in the lives of their beneficiaries but more generally in the governance system of their communities. As illustrated in Chap. 10.1007/978-3-030-71143-6_5, the spectrum of activities is quite wide. Save the Children focuses on education and child protection (mainly through psychosocial support) complementary advocacy to secure policy change to enable a better world for children; Oxfam prioritizes ‘giving voice’ to the voiceless, water and sanitation, psychosocial support, legal counselling, combined also with a vigorous advocacy and influencing program to create lasting solutions to injustice and poverty. CARE has a similar focus on voice and empowerment especially for women and girls. Its gender transformative approach informs its work on protection, responses to gender-based violence) distribution of relief items, and, to a lesser extent, water and sanitation. As with Save the Children and Oxfam, CARE sets store by advocacy for policy reforms to end poverty and gender inequality. For its part, MSF operations focused on medical assistance, ranging from primary health care, surgery, mental health and psychosocial support, and medical evacuation. For MSF, belief in the power of témoignage has driven denunciations of those who hinder humanitarian action or divert aid and also critique of the wider disfunctionalities of the humanitarian system itself.

Résumé :
Among technological changes currently influencing retail, the implementation of digital strategies to create more experiential retail stores has enriched customers' experiences. Interactive technologies such as augmented reality (AR) provide particularly promising possibilities. By using AR, retailers can develop strategies to attract existing and potential customers, while customers can experience shopping in augmented, immersive ways in which the digital and physical worlds are combined in an augmented one. Despite the several examples of the use of AR technology in retail, those instances have often been introduced with only a few specific features and with limited applicability. In response, this chapter introduces the concept of an augmented retail store as a more comprehensive integration of physical and digital elements. It may serve as a means to develop an augmented experience for customers and mutual benefits for retailers and consumers and thus provide value for both academics and practitioners.

Résumé :
Through a meditation on objectification and materiality, valuation and devaluation, this chapter explores how objects and texts can be combined and juxtaposed in order to help generate new narratives about Haiti. This is a process that can be aided by both real and imagined listening to the voices of people who have been silenced as they were made to disappear into stereotypes, and into objects and objectification. Through methodical yet surprising shifts in perspective, a varied series of texts can counter the dehumanizing language and assumptions found inside the classroom and outside it. Performance Studies offers a potentially powerful tool for disrupting the insistent rhythm of stereotypes and common assumptions, in part because it focuses on the various meanings and significance of embodiment. Guided by this approach, the chapter suggests new combinations of texts and methodologies for teaching about Haiti that can be productively adapted for a variety of courses in the humanities, including rhetoric and composition courses. The chapter draws on the author’s experiences teaching in the Caribbean in a department that is explicitly interdisciplinary in its focus.

Résumé :
Using eye tracking, this chapter investigates if the visual attention varies according to the in-store displays message content (price, sensory, and price-sensory). Results show that participants are more responsive to cognitive content messages (price) than affective messages (sensory) alone. Nevertheless, it is demonstrated that participants are prone to devote more time processing in-store displays messages if prices (cognitive stimuli) are combined with sensory messages (affective stimuli), which increases the likelihood of choosing low involvement products. Finally, it was demonstrated that total fixation duration is predictive of low involvement product choice for all home décor products. This study suggests that shoppers might spend more time and effort searching for low involvement products if in-store displays captivate their visual attention and elicit their sensory imagery. Sensory messages can be used by retailers to highlight product intrinsic characteristics. At the same time, they are inducing positive feelings towards low-involvement products.

Abstract In this paper, we present the first prototype of a Scanning Time-Resolved Emission (STRE) system consisting of a high-sensitivity, low-noise, and low-jitter single-point Superconducting Single-Photon Detector (SSPD) combined with a specialized scanning head of a Laser Scanning Microscope (LSM). This idea was first proposed in late 2006 [1] but required the right combination of detector, customization, and collaboration with a tool vendor to get to fruition. It should be understood that this is still a prototype system under development and significant improvements in acquisition time, resolutions, and performance are expected in the near future. In this paper, we will also present the first preliminary results acquired using a test chip fabricated in 32 nm SOI.

Résumé :
The stability, reliability, efficient performance of high speed turbo machinery is very important, and accordingly has increased the demand for advanced bearings. In order to meet the advanced bearing needs, Heshmat proposed a hybrid foil-magnetic bearing [1]. The hybrid bearing combining the two bearings takes advantage of the strengths of each while compensating for each other’s weaknesses. This paper presents dynamic characteristics of the combined smart bearing (CSB) of different structure from Heshmat’s bearing. The CSB and test rig were designed, fabricated and carried out the test. Numerical predictions of Air foil bearing (AFB) and CSB were compared the dynamic force performance, and analysis of bearings are performed by finite element method (FEM). Experiments were conducted to determine the structural static and dynamic characteristics of AFB. The dynamic characteristics of AFB and CSB compared depending on the rotating speed change. The experimental results were obtained the dynamic characteristics of the CSB 50% higher than value of the stiffness effect. In addition to, the CSB 100% higher than value of the damping effect.

Résumé :
In this work, by utilizing the shear strength criterion for the sliding inception, a finite element model for obliquely loaded spherical contact has been developed, which realized a friction transition from perfect slip case to full stick case with increasing normal approach. Both tangential force and normal force during tangential loading were investigated using different models. It was found that with elastic-plastic normal displacement preload, there is an obvious normal force release during tangential loading. Furthermore, both Coulomb friction model and the proposed model predict a lower tangential force at the same tangential displacement compared to the full stick model. However, the Coulomb friction is more empirically determined with some arbitrary friction coefficient whereas the proposed model is based on physics parameters.

Résumé :
Combined smart bearing (CSB) integrates two oil free bearing technologies to take advantage of the strengths of each bearing with minimizing each other weaknesses. It is for enhancing dynamic stability and load carrying capacity [1]. Moreover, CSB have a shorter length than size of hybrid bearing suggested by Heshmat in same performance [2]. So, it has the advantage of the design in high speed turbo machinery. This paper presents vibration control of a high speed rotor supported by CSB. An experiment set-up of a rotor bearing system is built. And rotor dynamic analysis of the rigid rotor on critical speeds is performed. For the experimental approach, unbalance responses of the rigid rotor supported by each bearings: air foil bearing (AFB) and CSB are compared to verify the effectiveness of the CSB. First, the PD control parameters of the magnetic bearing were to find out in stable range experimentally. Then according to the angle of unbalance experiments, compared the performance of AFB and CSB. The result, the shaft vibration in a critical speed is significantly suppressed by the CSB rather than AFB.

The behavior of an elastic-plastic contact between a deformable sphere and a rigid flat under combined constant normal and reciprocating tangential loading is investigated in the present work. The theoretical model is based on the assumptions of full stick contact condition and two kinds of the sphere material hardening. Hysteretic change of friction force versus tangential displacement during reciprocating tangential loading is investigated along with the study of the change of the contact area and stress state in the elastic-plastic sphere. Good agreement between theoretical and experimental results is obtained.

Résumé :
The present work deals with the Navier-Stokes and bulk-flow analysis of hybrid bearings intended for use in aerospace applications. These bearings are expected to work at high rotational speeds and high feeding pressures. In such a case, the pressure in the shallow pockets of the bearing is no longer constant and is influenced by hydrostatic and hydrodynamic effects. It has been shown in the literature that the recess pressure pattern can have an important influence on the dynamic characteristics of the bearing. The present work investigates the pressure field in the recess of centered hybrid bearings with radial and angled injection by using a numerical Navier Stokes analysis. The recess pressure pattern is then subsequently characterized by combining these results with some parametric descriptions. For calculating the dynamic characteristics of the bearing, the parametric pressure pattern is then injected into a bulk-flow model that is an alternative analysis of the one introduced by San Andre´s [3, 4]. In order to evaluate the validity of the bulk-flow code, the numerical predictions are compared with experimental data taken from the literature for radial and angled injection. The favorable effect of the counter-rotating angled injection is then explained by using the velocity field issued from the Navier Stokes analysis and the pressure field given by the bulk-flow model.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Field crews recently collected more than 10 years of classification and mapping data in support of the North Coast and Cascades Inventory and Monitoring Network (NCCN) vegetation maps of Mount Rainier (MORA), Olympic (OLYM), and North Cascades (NOCA) National Parks. Synthesis and analysis of these 6000+ plots by Washington Natural Heritage Program (WNHP) and Institute for Natural Resources (INR) staff built on the foundation provided by the earlier classification work of Crawford et al. (2009). These analyses provided support for most of the provisional plant associations in Crawford et al. (2009), while also revealing previously undescribed vegetation types that were not represented in the United States National Vegetation Classification (USNVC). Both provisional and undescribed types have since been submitted to the USNVC by WNHP staff through a peer-reviewed process. NCCN plots were combined with statewide forest and wetland plot data from the US Forest Service (USFS) and other sources to create a comprehensive data set for Washington. Analyses incorporated Cluster Analysis, Nonmetric Multidimensional Scaling (NMS), Multi-Response Permutation Procedure (MRPP), and Indicator Species Analysis (ISA) to identify, vet, and describe USNVC group, alliance, and association distinctions. The resulting revised classification contains 321 plant associations in 99 alliances. A total of 54 upland associations were moved through the peer review process and are now part of the USNVC. Of those, 45 were provisional or preliminary types from Crawford et al. (2009), with 9 additional new associations that were originally identified by INR. WNHP also revised the concepts of 34 associations, wrote descriptions for 2 existing associations, eliminated/archived 2 associations, and created 4 new upland alliances. Finally, WNHP created 27 new wetland alliances and revised or clarified an additional 21 as part of this project (not all of those occur in the parks). This report and accompanying vegetation descriptions, keys and synoptic and environmental tables (all products available from the NPS Data Store project reference: https://irma.nps.gov/DataStore/Reference/Profile/2279907) present the fruit of these combined efforts: a comprehensive, up-to-date vegetation classification for the three major national parks of Washington State.
