Résumé :
The global Coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic exposed the weakness of healthcare systems including laboratory systems and is a call to action for unprecedented collaboration and partnerships to deal with the global crisis. The United States (U.S.) President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) establishes the global HIV/AIDS treatment agenda in alignment with the UNAIDS 90-90-90 treatment targets to achieve epidemic control related to enhanced testing, treatment, and viral suppression. A strategic PEPFAR priority area recognizes that large-scale collective efforts and sharing of resources bear greater potential impact for lasting change than any single organization or entity can achieve alone. An important vehicle utilized within the global public health context is the public-private partnership (PPP) model whereby multiple international organizations forge unified project charters to collectively reach mutually agreed goals. While touted as an ideal mechanism to synthesize resources and maximize gain in numerous applications, little is known from a seasoned stakeholder perspective regarding PPP implementation and sustainability issues. The purpose of this research is to holistically examine perceptions of PPP model sustainability related to inputs and impacts among a collective network of stakeholders experienced with PEPFAR workforce development, laboratory-system strengthening project implementation. Interviews were conducted with frontline stakeholders from public and private sector organizations based in the US and select PEPFAR-supported priority countries. Analysis revealed three dominant themes: PPP impacts, keys of successful collaboration, and logistical challenges and opportunities to enhance sustainability of PPP outcomes in the future.

Résumé :
This article critically interrogates historical analogies made between the Covid-19 pandemic and HIV/AIDS epidemic in American public discourse, highlighting the role of cultural memory and normative frameworks of ‘crisis’ and its temporalities in shaping collective responses. It situates the Covid-19 pandemic in a multidirectional mnemonic frame by analysing borrowings from other usable pasts, particularly the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the United States, which in turn drew upon memory of the Holocaust. A reading of Susan Sontag’s ‘The Way We Live Now’ affirms the value of multidirectional cultural borrowing while also revealing its limits. Notably, the ever-growing AIDS Memorial Quilt may serve as a model for memorializing victims of Covid-19. While analogies between pandemics may be comforting or mobilizing, their meaning must remain open to contestation and also preserve particularities and differences. The history of HIV/AIDS centres the question, ‘crisis for whom?’ and cautions against prematurely declaring the ‘end’ of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Résumé :
HIV/AIDS is considered as one of the most demanding public health problems faced by the country. It is a public threat and needs collective efforts in addressing the issue. In this line, a study was conducted among 30 people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) in Chennai, Tamilnadu, India to study the challenges faced by women living with HIV/AIDS during the lockdown COVID 19 Pandemic in India. The data was collected with the support of the International Alliance for the Prevention of AIDS (IAPA) India, Chennai. In this study, descriptive research design and Simple random (lottery method) sampling technique was adopted. The researcher designed a questionnaire comprising both structured and semi structured questions along with “Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS) – 21 item” standardized scale to obtain the data. The study shows that 76.7 percent of the respondents felt depressed because they do not have income to support their family needs and 53.3% shared that they are living in fear of HIV/AIDS and now during lockdown fear of survival is another painful one. Social work revolves around service, but is inherently interdisciplinary in nature. In this study Seven-Stage Crisis Intervention Model by Albert R. Roberts and Allen J. Ottens, was used for intervention. It was found after intervention that the p value of Depression, Anxiety and Stress is 0.00, which is less than the significance level of 0.05, hence the null hypothesis is rejected. Thus the results after the intervention showed that there was a visible decrease in their depression, stress and anxiety level. Résumé :
Summary This paper examines how certain assumptions concerning sexual behaviour, race and nationality emerge at the core of explanations regarding the origin of HIV. In particular, it returns to discussions of the so-called "AIDS debate" in South Africa in the 2000s. On the one hand, it focuses on how these assumptions reinforce the understanding of AIDS as stigma and "social problem", to the extent that they emphasise the existence of geographical areas and "risk groups". On the other, these same assumptions are examined in the light of processes of identification and belonging, given that in the majority of reports, both academic and popular, "Africans" and "Africa" are inexorably understood in pessimistic terms. The purpose is to show how certain aspects of the South African debate refer to the way the global history of AIDS has been constructed over the past three decades. An exhaustive historiographical reconstruction is not attempted here, rather by returning to some works on the genesis of the epidemic, the paper highlights the individual and collective stigmatisation related to the public health discourse on AIDS, particularly such notions as "risk", "exposure" and "vulnerability". The proposal is such notions are strongly informed by a moral sense that traverses the dominant cognitive model in the approaches to the global epidemic and the AIDS debate in South Africa. The last part of the article focuses on the tensions that emerge between the explanations of experts from the field of public health and the contributions of social scientists, particularly anthropologists, frequently questioned for their alleged cultural relativism.

Résumé :
Cellular automata are very simple systems that can exhibit complex dynamics on its time evolution. Over the last decade there have been many applications of cellular automata to modeling of biological systems. Those applications have been stimulated by the study of complex systems which has brought many insights into the cooperative and global behavior of the biological systems. Along with this discussion we present two different applications of deterministic and also of probabilistic cellular automata that are used to model the dynamics involved in cooperative and collective behavior of the immune system. In the first example, we use a deterministic cellular automata to model the time evolution of the immune repertoire, as a network, according to the Jerne's theory. Using this model we could reproduce some recent experimental results about immunization and aging of the immune system. In the second example, we use a probabilistic cellular automata model to study the evolution of HIV infection and the onset of AIDS. The results are in excellent agreement with experimental data obtained from infected patients. Besides the examples above, other interesting applications, such as models for cancer and recurrent epidemics, are being considered in the present framework.

Résumé :
There is no general agreement on the definition of the term ‘printed ephemera’. For the purpose of this article it is defined as (1) material issued by corporate bodies describing the current activities of those bodies and (2) material of small size. Owing to the legal deposit legislation of Scandinavian countries, dating back to the 17th century, these countries all have two or more national collections of ephemera. A distinction is made between ‘printed ephemera’ and ‘grey literature’, which is of recent date, and which developed as a result of modern society's need for speedy communication and developments in reprography. A half-library, half-archival system is appropriate for dealing with ephemera. The library tradition of splitting up material into subject groups may be combined with the archival system of arranging material according to provenance. Archival finding aids such as subject guides and indices and archival methods of collective description are appropriate as a general principle, but this should not exclude bibliographic records when such records are needed.

Résumé :
The protection of citizens and their ability to exercise their rights and freedoms are key indicators of the success of law enforcement authorities, which the public continuously assesses. One of the strategic resources of the life of modern society is various information. Computer networks, geographical information systems, means of tactical forecasting of crimes, numerous integrated databases are already widely applied in the activities of the law enforcement agencies. Despite this, the main information resource for forensic purposes represented by the information arrays of the forensic registration system still remains a repository of heterogeneous data, the collective use of which causes significant organizational and technical difficulties. Information and analytical support for the disclosure and investigation of crimes is aimed at obtaining an analytical information product about the structure, hierarchy, and composition of criminal groups, about the commodity and cash flows and relations of individuals and legal entities, about their joint criminal activities, about the unidentified circumstances of the events of the crime to be proven. Implementing cumulative object and trace inspections on various information arrays aids in establishing the missing details of the crime event.

Résumé :
Nonstate actors such as social enterprises are increasingly influential for addressing pressing social needs in sub-Saharan Africa. Moving responsibility from the state to private entrepreneurs calls for a greater understanding of how single individuals achieve their social mission in a context characterized by acute poverty and where informal institutions, such as trust and collective norms, are strong governance mechanisms. This study recognizes the role of leader passion as a key element for gaining people’s trust in the social enterprise leader and the social mission. Qualitative data were collected on 37 leaders of Nigerian social enterprises in arenas such as health, women’s rights, children’s rights, AIDS/HIV care and education, and sustainable development. Drawing on 100 semistructured interviews, the authors develop an inductive model illustrating how leader passion interrelates with the social enterprise organizing and outcomes.

Résumé :
The aim of this study was to investigate action learning as an implementation method in a large-scale project with many participants in several autonomous and geographically spread groups. The focus of the implementation was the Model of Practical Skill Performance as a learning and supervision tool in the clinical education of nursing students. Nineteen action learning groups were established, and a total of 129 clinical supervisors and 13 facilitators were involved. To evaluate the implementation process, qualitative data were generated through three focus group interviews, questionnaires, and notes. Data illuminate clinical supervisors’ perceptions of value, impact, and sustainability when they participate in an action learning group to become familiar with the Model of Practical Skill Performance. The deductive data analysis was guided by central concepts from action learning. Action learning proved to be an engaging and effective tool in the implementation where the main strength seemed to be the autonomous local group supporting collective reflections on actions. Clinical supervisors had the right competences to adopt a reflective process-oriented approach, which is the hallmark of action learning. This study shows the necessity of collaboration between stakeholders in practice, education, and management to implement large-scale projects in clinical practice. The findings imply that managers should choose participants on the basis of their motivation and their voluntary wish to participate and that nurses’ immersion in the project over time aids implementation.

Résumé :
Using political and critical theory, this article identifies in James Baldwin a model for citizenship unique to the Black artist who assumed the dual responsibilities of art practice and political activism. I engage with Baldwin’s fiction and his writing about other Black artists working in theater, film, dance, and music during the period of the civil rights movement. Across his career, Baldwin’s prevailing view was that, because of their history, Black artists have the singular, and indeed superlative, capacity to make art as praxis. Baldwin explains that the craft of the Black artist depends upon representing truths, rather than fantasies, about their experience, so that they are at once artists pursuing freedom and citizens pursuing justice. This article pays particular attention to the tension between living a public, political life and the need for privacy to create art, and ultimately the toll this takes on the citizen artist. Baldwin demonstrates how the community of mutual support he finds among Black artists aids in their survival. In his writings on Sidney Poitier and Lorraine Hansberry, his friendships with Beauford Delaney and Josephine Baker, as well as his reviews of music and literature, Baldwin assembles a collective he refers to as “I and my tribe.”

Résumé :
PurposeIn smart cities pervasive systems are deployed by enterprises and stakeholders in municipalities to provide digital services to citizens. But cities are faced with the challenge of achieving system pluggability, mainly service integration due to numerous actors and systems needed for smart urban transformation. Hence, there is need to employ a comprehensive and holistic approach to help achieve service integration of pervasive platforms. Therefore, this study presents an Enterprise Architecture Framework (EAF) to support smart urban transformation.Design/methodology/approachIn this study the design science research methodology is adopted based on a multi-case studies of two organizations and data is collected using semi-structured interview from an organizations and municipality in Norway to validate how service integration can be achieved by the developed EAF to address pluggability challenges faced in urban environment.FindingsFindings suggest that the presented EAF provides the structure to manage changes and maintain urban transformation and aims to align the business with the underlying information systems from the perspective of the stakeholders. Additionally, findings from the case studies modelled in ArchiMate language depict how service integration of different pervasive platforms provide digital services for smart urban transformation.Research limitations/implicationsThis research only employed semi-structured interviews to validate service integration of digital platforms, other identified dimensions of pluggability were not fully addressed in this study.Practical implicationsFindings from the case studies provides insights on how pervasive platforms can be integrated to achieve a pluggable digital service from different stakeholders and data sources in practice. The developed EAF presented in this study provide a model that supports collection and exchange of data from different data sources in smart urban environment to enable the provision and consumption of digital services.Social implicationsThe developed EAF aids system pluggability of actors and systems in providing digital service such as smart urban transformation that contributes to sustainable use of electric mobility in cities.Originality/valueAs cities increasingly deploy pervasive platforms to support urban innovation, researchers are seeking to explore how these platforms shape urban transformation. Presently, prior studies do not offer important insights into pervasive platform management from urban perspective. Against this backdrop, this study employs the information systems perspective of digital platforms literature roots in software development and physical product development to depict how the EAF can be employed to describe specific cases that integrate different pervasive platforms deployed by different stakeholders communicating to co-create collective digital services to citizens.

Résumé :
This study was conducted due to the increasing trend of people living with Human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) (HIV/AIDS) in Subang Regency, West Java Province. This phenomenon was marked by high population mobility. Thus, this study aims to analyze the network model for HIV/AIDS prevention and control in Subang Regency. In this study, a networking approach by collaboration was adopted using six dimensions, namely, governance, administration, organizational autonomy, mutuality, norms and leadership. A qualitative approach is applied to explain a dataset which was a collection of observation and in - depth interview and supported by secondary data from relevant informants who are involved in preventing and reducing HIV/AIDS in Subang Regency. These informants were the actors who represent government agents and non-government organizations. Result showed that all dimensions of collaboration occur on an iterative, cyclical and dynamic process. However, on a practical approach, this model is implemented on a linear and causality basis and can explain a system towards problem-solving and new values forming.

Résumé :
The tremendous boost in next generation sequencing and in the “omics” technologies makes it possible to characterize the human gut microbiome—the collective genomes of the microbial community that reside in our gastrointestinal tract. Although some of these microorganisms are considered to be essential regulators of our immune system, the alteration of the complexity and eubiotic state of microbiota might promote autoimmune and inflammatory disorders such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), obesity, and carcinogenesis. IBD, comprising Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, is a gut-related, multifactorial disease with an unknown etiology. IBD presents defects in the detection and control of the gut microbiota, associated with unbalanced immune reactions, genetic mutations that confer susceptibility to the disease, and complex environmental conditions such as westernized lifestyle. Although some existing studies attempt to unveil the composition and functional capacity of the gut microbiome in relation to IBD diseases, a comprehensive picture of the gut microbiome in IBD patients is far from being complete. Due to the complexity of metagenomic studies, the applications of the state-of-the-art machine learning techniques became popular to address a wide range of questions in the field of metagenomic data analysis. In this regard, using IBD associated metagenomics dataset, this study utilizes both supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms, (i) to generate a classification model that aids IBD diagnosis, (ii) to discover IBD-associated biomarkers, (iii) to discover subgroups of IBD patients using k-means and hierarchical clustering approaches. To deal with the high dimensionality of features, we applied robust feature selection algorithms such as Conditional Mutual Information Maximization (CMIM), Fast Correlation Based Filter (FCBF), min redundancy max relevance (mRMR), Select K Best (SKB), Information Gain (IG) and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost). In our experiments with 100-fold Monte Carlo cross-validation (MCCV), XGBoost, IG, and SKB methods showed a considerable effect in terms of minimizing the microbiota used for the diagnosis of IBD and thus reducing the cost and time. We observed that compared to Decision Tree, Support Vector Machine, Logitboost, Adaboost, and stacking ensemble classifiers, our Random Forest classifier resulted in better performance measures for the classification of IBD. Our findings revealed potential microbiome-mediated mechanisms of IBD and these findings might be useful for the development of microbiome-based diagnostics.

Résumé :
Background: Between 68.1–89.5% of clients report that they are satisfied with their hearing aids. Two variables that are thought to contribute to dissatisfaction with hearing aids are product performance, and a mismatch between performance and client prefitting expectations about hearing-aid performance (i.e., disconfirmation). A focus on variables related to satisfaction is relevant to improving hearing rehabilitation services. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine if measures of hearing-aid performance and disconfirmation, specifically related to hearing ability and hearing-aid problems, were associated with overall hearing-aid satisfaction among a sample of hearing-aid users. Research Design: A retrospective research design was employed. Study Sample: A total of 123 individuals participated in the study (57% male; mean age: 72 yr). All participants owned hearing aids. Data Collection and Analysis: A personal details questionnaire and the Profile of Hearing Aid Consumer Satisfaction questionnaire (Wong et al, 2009) were completed by participants, 3–12 mo after they obtained hearing aids. Overall hearing-aid satisfaction was a dichotomized variable (satisfaction vs. dissatisfaction); therefore, logistic regression modeling was applied to the data to determine which variables were associated with overall hearing-aid satisfaction. Results: Sixty-one percent of the sample reported that they were satisfied with their hearing aids. Hearing-aid satisfaction was associated with the ability to hear with hearing aids and better-than-expected performance in this same area; fewer hearing-aid problems; and fewer problems with hearing-aid manipulation, hearing-aid appearance, and wearer discomfort than were anticipated before hearing-aid fitting. Conclusions: It is recommended that to improve hearing-aid satisfaction, clinicians should ensure optimal hearing-aid benefit in the listening situations that the person with hearing impairment most wants to hear better; reduce the likelihood of hearing-aid problems occurring; and promote positive disconfirmation (performance exceeds expectations) with respect to both hearing ability and hearing-aid performance through the education of clients about the likely benefits of hearing aids in a variety of listening environments, and the potential problems they could face with hearing-aid manipulation and wearer discomfort.

Résumé :
This study aims to develop a valid, practical, and effective teaching aid in learning mathematical logic material. The teaching aid developed is Logic Toll Board named PATOLOGI (Papan Tol Logika). The development model used in this study uses the ADDIE development model. The stages of ADDIE development include analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data collection was obtained from observation and interviews, then analyzed descriptively. The results of the research that has been carried out indicate that the PATOLOGI teaching aids have been well developed, starting from the analysis stage to the evaluation stage. The tests carried out included testing the validity of teaching aids to experts, practicality tests and effectiveness tests through trial activities with students. The trial results show that students have no difficulty in using teaching aids, so that teaching aids are said to be practical. The trial results also show that the use of visual aids can arouse students' enthusiasm and interest in participating in learning activities, so that students more easily understand the concepts of mathematical logic material, especially compound statements. This shows that the PATOLOGI teaching aids can be categorized as effective. Thus, it is concluded that the PATOLOGI teaching aid is valid, practical, and effective.

Résumé :
Antiretroviral (ARV) therapy for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) may reduce mortality and improve the quality of life among them. Non-adherence of HIV/AIDS patients in ARV therapy may lead to cease of therapy, increase risk of death, complicate evaluation of ARV services, and increase the risk of ARV resistance if they wish to start over. This study aimed to determine the factors that cause non-adherence to ARV therapy among PLHIV in Pemalang Regency. The research used qualitative method with case study approach. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation to 6 HIV/ AIDS patients who were listed as non-adherence patient in ARV therapy. Data analysis was done descriptively with triangulation method and data analysis. Results revealed that the factors that cause non-adherence to ARV therapy among PLHIV were lack of vulnerability perception to illness in the future, lack of illness perception among informants about the severity of illness, lack of benefit perception perceived by most informants, and barrier perception of side effects, lack of facilities to access ARV, and pudency that their HIV-positive status was known by others.

Résumé :
The Triple Layered Business Model Canvas is a platform for experimenting with new business models that are focused on sustainability. It adds two levels to the original business model canvas: an environmental layer based on a lifecycle perspective and a social layer based on stakeholder perspectives (Cardeal, Höse, Ribeiro, & Götze, 2020). The three layers of the business model, when examined collectively, make clear how an organization generates different sorts of value – economic, environmental, and social. Visually depicting a business model using this canvas tool aids in establishing and communicating a more holistic and integrated perspective of a business model, as well as in creatively innovating towards more sustainable business models (Daou, et al., 2020). This review article analyzes the triple layer business model canvas tool and highlights its essential characteristics. By providing a design tool that structures sustainability challenges in business model innovation, this tool adds to sustainable business model research. References

Résumé :
AIDS prevention efforts that had been instituted by early 1987 included outreach; AIDS education within drug abuse treatment programs; antibody testing; preventing initiation in IV drug use; collective organization by drug users to confront AIDS; and efforts to change the environment of IV drug use in ways that might reduce HIV transmission. Projects differed in terms of whether they 1) oriented primarily to getting users into treatment or to risk reduction among continuing users (a false dichotomy); 2) used deterrence, skills building, group-identity, or social support to motivate risk reduction; 3) tried to change the environment of drug use, its subculture, or the individual user; and 4) vested control of the project in the hands of professionals or of the users themselves. These models can play different roles in fighting the epidemic, and new approaches need to be developed.

Résumé :
The joint modeling of mean and variance for longitudinal data is an active research area. This type of model has the advantage of accounting for heteroscedasticity commonly observed in between and within subject variations. Most of researches focus on improving the estimating efficiency but ignore many data features frequently encountered in practice. In this article, we develop a mixed-effects location scale joint model that concurrently accounts for longitudinal data with multiple features. Specifically, our joint model handles heterogeneity, skewness, limit of detection, measurement errors in covariates which are typically observed in the collection of longitudinal data from many studies. We employ a Bayesian approach for making inference on the joint model. The proposed model and method are applied to an AIDS study. Simulation studies are performed to assess the performance of the proposed method. Alternative models under different conditions are compared.

Résumé :
The starting point for the laboratory investigation of a dissection of laboratory animal for experiment is the taking of samples. This review considers some general principles involved in sample collection for histology (Liu et al., 2016). For disease diagnosis, the tissues sampled should be representative of the condition being investigated and the lesions observed. Samples should be taken with care, to avoid undue stress or injury to the animal or danger to the operator. Where appropriate, samples should be collected aseptically, and care should be taken to avoid crosscontamination between samples (Lapage, 1958). Mice and rats are the most used animals in experimental researches, the anatomical, histological and genetic differences between species should be carefully evaluated, to better apply the study model and avoid unnecessary waste avoid (Corte et al., 2021). Currently, the implantation of defined genetically and sanitarily laboratory animals has aided in new discoveries, through experimental models, contributing to the prevention of uncured diseases such as cancers, AIDS, and multiple sclerosis, and also for the development of new surgical treatment techniques. Other applications correspond to the vaccines development, monoclonal antibodies, evaluation and control of biological products, pharmacology, toxicology, bacteriology, virology and parasitology, and basic immunology studies, immunopathology, organ transplants and immunosuppressive drugs development. However, with technological advances, it is now possible to obtain satisfactory results through alternative methods in vitro, using cell culture and other methods, allowing the 84 replacement of laboratory animals (Gunatilake, 2018).

Untuk meningkatkan kualitas dan efektivitas kolaborasi governance antarpemangku kepentingan, harus ada norma, struktur, dan proses yang jelas dalam menanggulangi HIV/AIDS.AbstractThere have been public policies, programs and activities to cope with HIV/AIDS in Indonesia at national and local level, but number of HIV/AIDScases is increasing every year. This study aimed to determine effectivity ofcollaborative governance between stakeholders in a sustainable comprehensive service to cope with HIV/AIDS in Surakarta City. This study was an exploratory study. Informants were selected using purposive sampling technique. Data collection was conducted on 2 July – 2 September 2013 using in-depth interview, observation, focus group discussion, and documentation. Technique of data analysis was an interactive analysis model. Results showed that service provider and receiver had taken roles in HIV/AIDS coping based on their own duty and function. Prevention and outreach, healthcare service, harm reduction and empowerment programs had not been yet effective because of less optimal commitment to purpose and mutual trust between stakeholders, less professional fieldworkers, latent conflict occurred between stakeholders, less optimal coordination between AIDS Coping Commission of Surakarta City members, and low budget for HIV/AIDS coping as HIV/AIDS is not yet a priority issue in regional development. In brief, collaborative governance between stakeholders is not yet efffective. To improve the quality and the collaborative governance effectivity between stakeholders, there should be any clear norm, structure and process in coping with HIV/AIDS.

Résumé :
OBJECTIVES: To compare changes in AIDS knowledge and risk behaviors among Brazilian cocaine users in an intervention trial. METHOD: 119 participants were randomly assigned to either a standard or a standard plus "thought mapping" intervention, and re-interviewed 2 and 8 weeks after intake using standardized data collection instruments. Intervention effects were examined using generalized estimated equation model. RESULTS: Significant increases in AIDS knowledge and condom use were observed in the experimental group, as well as significant changes in the subscores for sexual and drug risks. The experimental intervention was less successful in decreasing mean days of cocaine use when compared to the standard. CONCLUSION: Although not robust, the findings nevertheless suggest that components of the experimental thought-mapping model might be useful in combination with other approaches.

Résumé :
The study was conducted with the aim to explore the predictors of the level of knowledge, attitude, practices of HIV and AIDS. The study was conducted among the 404 respondents of 15-49 years in Kathmandu valley, Nepal. Quantitative technique was adopted during the data collection. Respondents were selected by using the simple random sampling. Linear regression model was used to find out the impact of demographic variables and social factors on level of knowledge, attitude and practices of HIV and AIDS. The result shows that the demographic variables only explain 10.80% of the variation in the knowledge, 39.40% of the variation in the attitude towards the HIV and AIDS and 33.10% of the variation in the practices of HIV and AIDS. Similarly, individual factors (IF), political factors (PF), educational factors (EF), economic factors (EcoF) and socio-cultural factors (SCF) only explains 17.7% of the variation in the knowledge, 12.40% of the variation in the attitude towards HIV and AIDS and 5.01% of the variation in the practices of HIV and AIDS. Individual should be sincere in his/her behavior and practices to reduce the risk of HIV transmission. Résumé :
There has been an increase in the amount of research that shows how migration status influences an increased risk of acquiring HIV/AIDS. The findings show that structural conditions of inequality lead to greater vulnerability. In Mexico, those who come from rural or indigenous populations face greater material shortage and abuses of their human rights. To achieve a better impact on prevention, less explored health promotion models need to be applied. The present work, carried out in two localities in southern Yucatan, shows how social marketing is a relevant and effective tool to build HIV/AIDS prevention strategies among the male Mayan population migrating to regional destinations. The research was carried out in two stages: a) the collection of data through the application of surveys that explore socio-demographic data, vulnerability factors, knowledge about HIV/AIDS and risk practices, which served as input for the second stage; b) the collaborative development of a prevention strategy based on Lee and Kotler Social Marketing model. With this we identified the desired outcomes for health; the threats to achieving those outcomes; the behavioral changes sought; the main barriers; the messages to be strengthened in interpersonal communication; the attitudes and knowledge that existed in response to the phenomenon. Finally, in collaboration with the participants we created a video and a play that were accepted in both communities.

PurposeUsing a health belief model (HBM), this study aims to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices of Iranian midwives in relation to HIV/AIDS protection behavior and to determine the needs of interventional programs for promotion of the behavior among midwives of maternity care units.Design/methodology/approachThis was a cross‐sectional study in five selected hospitals in Isfahan. All 58 midwifery personnel of maternity wards of these hospitals participated in the study. Tools for data collection were a checklist to assess midwives' practice and a questionnaire to assess knowledge, attitude, and the HBM of midwives about HIV/AIDS‐protection methods.FindingsA total of 58 midwifery personnel with average working experience of 10.92±7.98 years were assessed in the study and with a high knowledge, positive attitude and moderate practice about HIV/AIDS protection methods. The midwives perceived two main barriers, which impacted on their self‐efficacy and their protection behavior. These barriers were the emergency conditions of the work and the low availability of protective equipment.Originality/valueHIV/AIDS protection behavior and HBM of midwives can be promoted by overcoming management barriers such as inadequate midwifery personnel in emergency conditions and insufficient protective equipment. The behavior also needs to be promoted by educational interventions which focus on improving midwives' perceived risk of HIV/AIDS infection.

Résumé :
The library and information profession in Africa is not well recognized. It does not carry an identifiable set of core activities that share a common understanding across societies in Africa. The number of libraries in Africa is limited for a variety of reasons including lack of resources, populations that are not based in print literacy, and having its roots in the British model of librarianship. HIV/AIDS continues to pose severe problems for Sub-Saharan Africa. Some countries in the region have successfully reduced the number of HIV/AIDS cases, citing information as the main source of prevention, presenting library and information professionals a unique opportunity to collectively organize and establish their role in the fight against the disease. This paper will discuss the opportunity for how LIS professionals engaged in HIV/AIDS information activities can develop and strengthen a positive status for the library and information discipline in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Résumé :
There is an increasing trend of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Subang District, a region characterized by high population mobility. Hence, this study aims to explain the factors that influence collaboration in HIV/AIDS prevention and control in Subang Regency. This study uses a latent construct of collaboration reflected by five dimensions: governance, administration, organizational authority, mutuality, and norms. This study uses quantitative methods and data collection techniques through distributing questionnaires to 72 respondents involved in HIV/AIDS prevention and prevention in Subang Regency. The selection of respondents represents government and non-government organizations based on quota sampling. Data were analyzed by Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) in the second order confirmatory factor analysis to explain the collaboration measurement model as a latent construct. The results showed that all dimensions of the collaboration construct were valid and reliable. All dimensions can be said to significantly explain the collaborative construct of HIV/AIDS prevention and care. The dimensions of governance are the most valuable factors that influence the construct of collaboration, followed by organizational autonomy, administration, mutuality, and finally norms as dimensions with the smallest contribution value to collaboration.Â

Résumé :
Background: This study addresses the HIV/AIDS epidemic that constitutes a major health issue in South Africa, the country most burdened by the virus in the world. Focus of the Article: It is an empirical study that investigates predictive behavioral patterns between traditional components of the theory of planned behavior and the previously identified social marketing behavioral enhancers and intentions to perform preventative sexual behaviors promoted under the Abstinence, Being faithful, and Condomize campaign. Research Question: The main question this study attempts to answer is: Is it relevant to increase the theory of planned behavior components by incorporating the social marketing behavioral enhancers’ variables to design programs that successfully influence individuals to adhere to the preventative sexual behaviors? Importance to the Social Marketing Field: Results will tell social marketers, through design programs fighting the spread of the HIV set within a theory of planned behavior theoretical framework, which of the social marketing behavioral enhancers are worth integrating into their model to induce behavioral change. Methods: Theory of planned behavior models extended to social marketing behavioral enhancers for abstinence, faithfulness, and condom use were used as theoretical frameworks to test how well they are good fits of the empirically manifested structural models. Gauteng was chosen, because three of the five metropolitan municipalities with a HIV prevalence greater than 10% are located in this province. Data were collected by means of questionnaires administered to a sample chosen randomly, using a multi-stage stratification method. A quota was determined for each suburb or city considered according to the size of its population compared to the overall Gauteng population to ensure representativeness of the study’s sample. Results: The study’s theoretical frameworks fitted the data well, but results also revealed insignificant causal relationships between HIV/AIDS knowledge and all Abstinence–Being faithful–Condomize intentions. Similarly, no predictive relationships were found between accessibility to HIV/AIDS information and intention to use condoms, while attitudes toward abstinence and condom use were insignificant with their respective intentions. However, their positive correlations with predictive variables suggest that they influence intentions indirectly. Recommendation for Research: Researchers are invited to conduct further studies to test the model in a different context. Indeed, this study does not investigate whether relationships between HIV/AIDS knowledge, accessibility to HIV/AIDS information, and attitudes toward abstinence and condom use would remain insignificant or that it could not change over time in a research ground other than Gauteng. Opportunities should be explored to augment the traditional theory of planned behavior components by variables other than the social marketing behavioral enhancers, in order to build a more robust model that will incorporate more significant factors to design successful programs. Limitations: Collecting data from only one province constitutes a limitation in terms of drawing conclusions for the whole South African population.

Résumé :
Background: Despite evidence that hearing aids can improve the social and psychological functioning of older hearing-impaired adults, hearing aid uptake is low. High cost of hearing aids and poor access to audiology services in rural areas are potential barriers to hearing aid acquisition. Methods of hearing aid delivery deviating from the traditional clinician-based model have been available to consumers for many years. One such method is Internet hearing aid sales. However, research exploring Internet-based hearing aid delivery, as a method to improve hearing aid uptake in this population, is limited. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions of older hearing aid users (aged ≥65 yr) toward Internet-based hearing aid delivery. Research Design: A qualitative approach was adopted to investigate older adults’ perceptions of buying hearing aids online. Study Sample: The sample consisted of 18 participants aged between 64 and 81 yr. Fourteen men and four women participated in this study. Participants were all experienced hearing aid users. Data Collection and Analysis: Face-to-face semistructured interviews were conducted. An interview schedule guided the interview. Interviews were recorded with a voice recorder and transcribed verbatim. Thematic analysis of the data was carried out. Results: Seven main themes emerged from the data. A general lack of awareness, but willingness to learn more about Internet hearing aid sales, was found. Two perceived benefits of Internet-based hearing aid delivery were identified: lower cost of hearing aids and greater convenience or physical accessibility. Numerous concerns and limitations were communicated. Concerns regarding the availability of clinical procedures, such as hearing tests, obtaining the correct-sized earmolds, and fine-tuning of hearing aids, were expressed. Participants conveyed distrust in online retailers. However, trust in and a preference for audiologists’ expertise, which was not perceived to be available online, was found. Participants further conveyed a preference for face-to-face contact. Finally, in this sample, a general lack of familiarity and confidence in using the Internet was communicated. Conclusions: Internet sales of hearing aids is a controversial topic in audiology. Although Internet-based delivery of hearing aids was perceived by older adults to be potentially beneficial, several shortcomings and concerns were conveyed. Irrespective of opinion of the role of Internet sales, audiologists should consider the opinions of the elderly as to how different service models may improve hearing aid uptake.

Résumé :
Nutritional status is a measure of nutritional status that affects human growth and development, so nutritional status data collection is necessary. Data on nutritional status in Rawalele Village was collected by village midwives, who were assisted by posyandu cadres in recording child weighing data and then submitting it to the puskesmas and entering it into the ePPGBM system. Due to difficulties with existing applications, data collection on nutritional status at the Rawalele village posyandu is still done on paper, so the process takes a long time and data can be lost or damaged. The purpose of this study is to design and build a web-based application to facilitate data collection on nutritional status in toddlers. A software model is obtained using the prototype development method. The prototype development method is used to create a software model, which aids in the development of a system that matches the facts of toddler growth and development data. The findings revealed that posyandu cadres could use the nutritional status data collection application for toddlers, making it easier for puskesmas to collect data from each posyandu.

Résumé :
Objectives: This study sought to identify potential predictive variables of death within 6 months in patients with advanced AIDS.Methods: Investigators enrolled a consecutive series of patients with advanced AIDS admitted to a skilled nursing facility in New York City over a 1-year period. Demographic, clinical, laboratory, and outcome data were abstracted from medical records using a standardized data collection instrument. Results: Of the 152 patients enrolled during the study period, 61 patients (40%) died within 6 months from date of admission. Serum albumin, percent deviation from ideal body weight, and number of comorbidities at the time of admission proved to be the best combination of predictors of death within 6 months.Significance of results: The decrease in AIDS mortality over the past decade, along with an increase in prevalence due to longer survival, has been attributed primarily to the successful use of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). HAART regimens, however, can also produce both short-term adverse effects and long-term complications. The prognostic model developed by this study may be useful in guiding treatment decisions in patients with advanced AIDS for whom a more palliative care plan may be sought.
