Résumé :
The article discusses the issues of the development of the city brand. The main purpose of the study was to identify the factors and components that contribute to the development of the city brand. The city brand model of Thomas Gad has been taken as a theoretical basis of the study. This model describes four dimensions of a city brand: mental, spiritual, social and functional. The author of the article has made an attempt to describe and add one more dimension to above-mentioned model-the dimension of “city style” with its visual and aesthetic aspect. The literature review has been conducted in order to clarify the concepts of “brand” and “city brand”. The questionnaire has been carried out among residents of two cities of Kazakhstan to identify the influence of the city style on the recognition of the city. The above is the theoretical and practical contribution of this study to the development and formation of the city’s brand. The proposal of the author of the study to develop design codes for cities of the Republic of Kazakhstan is of applied importance.

Résumé :
This paper sets out a research agenda for the interrogation of urban space as being ontologically constituted by its volumetric properties: that is, the ways in which the arrangement of dimensions and capacities above, below and in relation to the surface of the city are measured. The paper reviews the nascent ‘volumetric turn’ in explaining the production of urban space, noting the growing interest among scholars in understanding how verticality, surface, and the subterranean relate to the power and political economy of cities.

Résumé :
The study is devoted to the estimation of pollution deposit caused by vehicles into the city to-tal greenhouse gases emissions and to the forecast of the secondary air pollution with formal-dehyde. The present study contains mathematic model which allows getting the estimation of vehicles emission in the total amount of polluted atmospheric air. The model consists of two intercon-nected parts: a dynamic and a kinetic one. The first part of the model is based on the Theory of Convective Jet and Thermals in the Atmosphere and allows to get the parameters of the contaminated air which is being formed over the highway. The Dynamic part of the model allows to get the total amount of hydrocarbons emission depending on the number of vehicles which is present at the same time on the highway. We also obtain the data on concentration of pollution and temperature increasing in the narrowest section of the thermal jet. The kinetic part of the model allows to determine the concentration of the secondary atmos-pheric air contamination with formaldehyde as a result of photochemical transformation of hydrocarbons which are the part of emission of internal combustion engine. The speed of the transformation reaction was determined by the Can't Hoff-Arrhenius deferential equation. The given mathematical model was tested with the help of the system of regular observation over the polluted atmospheric air in Kyiv city. The comparison of the estimated value of for-maldehyde concentration and the observation data doesn't exceed 5 % above the maximum values. According to average monthly rates there is a false positive error (to + 20 % in the warmest months). Basing on the given model the calculator of concentration of pollution by vehicles was devel-oped. This calculator allows to obtain rapidly the values of formaldehyde concentration, de-pending on air temperature, solar radiation and number of vehicles on the highway. The amount of hydrocarbon emission from the vehicles, according the suggested model, allows to estimate the deposit of vehicles into the total amount of greenhouse gases of the city. The ob-tained results could be useful in forming of ecological policy of the cities and in managerial decision making.

Résumé :
AbstractThis paper sets out to better understand the roles of various actors and actions in the ‘making’ of Galway city. From the formation of the state, with a population of just over 14,000, the city has enjoyed population growth rates above EU and Irish averages over the past three decades. This paper maps a series of growth phases resulting from sometimes deliberate and other times non-deliberate policy decisions. The theoretical lens adopted is that of evolutionary economic geography. This is an attempt to counteract the tendency in broader social science research to underplay geographical aspects, such as places, space and scales. Economic geography – and evolutionary economic geography in particular – better identifies the complexity and nuance of place development. Theorists such as Boschma (2017) and Martin & Sunley (2015) consider development as a path-dependent process. Development is situated and place-based. This requires a more historically attuned perspective and a recognition that the role played by institutions, government and policy is vital. The paper concludes with a broad reflection on the role of spatial development policy and the potential future development of the city.

Résumé :
City group refers to a collection of cities. Through the development and growth, and these cities form a chain of metropolitan areas. In a city group, cities are divided into central cities and subordinate cities. Generally, central cities have greater chances to develop. However, subordinate cities may not have great chances to develop unless they are adjacent to central cities. Thus, a city is more likely to develop well if it is near a central city. In the process, the spatial distribution of cities changes all the time. Urbanologists call the above phenomena as the evolution of city groups. In this paper, the city group optimization algorithm is presented, which is based on urbanology and mimics the evolution of city groups. The robustness and evolutionary process of the proposed city group optimization algorithm are validated by testing it on 15 benchmark functions. The comparative results show that the proposed algorithm is effective for solving complexly continuous problems due to a stronger ability to escape from local optima.

Résumé :
The most important factor influencing the atmospheric pollution is wind. In the present article a theoretical model is described to obtain the wind flow inside a city area. A horizontally homogeneous stationary turbulent layer is considered and the constructions like buildings, etc. are considered as obstacles in the fluid flow and are further assumed to be uniformly placed. The air is considered to be thermally neutral. The equations for the above said fluid flow are derived and a solution is obtained. The important results of theoretical calculations, namely, the variation of wind velocity with the area and type of obstruction and with the momentum flux entering from the ground flow are illustrated by means of diagrams.

Résumé :
This paper presents a strategy for scaling climate change adaptation within urban areas. The strategy specifically focuses on the requirements for mobilizing large amounts of capital for adaptation and other urban risk reduction above and beyond the amounts that will likely be mobilized through new international adaptation funds. The paper, based on a report published by ICLEI–Local Governments for Sustainability,( 1 ) proposes a re-framing of the urban adaptation and disaster reduction challenge. The approach shifts the adaptation focus from risk reduction as a primary end in itself to a broader development focus on financing the performance of urban assets, areas and/or systems. This emphasis is elaborated through the concept of “resilience”, an urban design and investment metric that measures the ability of urban areas and their individual assets to perform for users and their investors under a wide range of conditions. The paper argues that such a performance-oriented approach provides a business logic that can attract conventional, private investment flows to climate and disaster risk reduction measures and thereby “mainstream” them.

Résumé :
The optimization of income distribution is an important index to achieve high-quality economic development in the process of urbanization. Using matched data from the China Statistical Yearbook and Customs Statistical Database, this paper examines the impact of city exports on city wages based on panel data from 286 Chinese cities at or above the prefecture level. The paper finds that city exports increase city wages through technology-upgrading mechanisms and profit-sharing mechanisms. This conclusion is found to be robust after a series of tests. The paper further analyses the impact of city exports on city wages by classifying the location and scale of cities. The results show that city exports increase the wages of large cities, eastern cities and central cities but have no effect on medium cities, small cities and western cities. In the process of urbanization, it is essential to further improve the quality and efficiency of exports, increase investment in R&D and education, optimise income distribution and promote regional coordinated development.

Résumé :
As an important carrier of human production, life, and social development, the emergence of cities symbolizes the maturity and civilization of mankind. For more than 40 years of reform and opening up, our country’s economic development has become increasingly prosperous, and urbanization is booming. At present, our country is in a decisive period for building a well-off society in an all-round way, with rapid progress in socio-economic growth and urbanization. Based on this, this article is oriented towards urban visualization modeling work and proposes a cluster modeling method that is compatible with the combination of urban geological structure and three-dimensional urban space, so that urban space modeling work not only pays attention to the rationality of above-ground planning and construction but also fully considers underground geology the stability and safety of the structure. This paper uses the 3D city online visualization modeling technology to efficiently and reasonably complete the 3D urban geological modeling under the fusion of multiple geological data and combines the organic combination of multisource heterogeneous model data to convert the geological model data into a 3D geographic information model; the universal standard format analyzes the rapid construction of large-scale complex geological structure models and the integrated expression of multisource heterogeneous model data. Experiments have proved that from the cluster capacity of 5,000 to 100,000, no matter how much the modeling time is different, whether it is to search the entire territory or part of the scope, the search time of the 3D city visualization model is less than 20 ms, and the 3D city visualization model map of the city can be well established. This shows that the three-dimensional city visualization model highlights the impact of the urban geological environment on urban construction and development and visually and vividly displays region geological structure and other information in a three-dimensional way, providing corresponding information for urban geological stability assessment and geological disaster rescue reference and help.

Résumé :
AbstractWe develop a process-based model for the dispersion of a passive scalar in the turbulent flow around the buildings of a city centre. The street network model is based on dividing the airspace of the streets and intersections into boxes, within which the turbulence renders the air well mixed. Mean flow advection through the network of street and intersection boxes then mediates further lateral dispersion. At the same time turbulent mixing in the vertical detrains scalar from the streets and intersections into the turbulent boundary layer above the buildings. When the geometry is regular, the street network model has an analytical solution that describes the variation in concentration in a near-field downwind of a single source, where the majority of scalar lies below roof level. The power of the analytical solution is that it demonstrates how the concentration is determined by only three parameters. The plume direction parameter describes the branching of scalar at the street intersections and hence determines the direction of the plume centreline, which may be very different from the above-roof wind direction. The transmission parameter determines the distance travelled before the majority of scalar is detrained into the atmospheric boundary layer above roof level and conventional atmospheric turbulence takes over as the dominant mixing process. Finally, a normalised source strength multiplies this pattern of concentration. This analytical solution converges to a Gaussian plume after a large number of intersections have been traversed, providing theoretical justification for previous studies that have developed empirical fits to Gaussian plume models. The analytical solution is shown to compare well with very high-resolution simulations and with wind tunnel experiments, although re-entrainment of scalar previously detrained into the boundary layer above roofs, which is not accounted for in the analytical solution, is shown to become an important process further downwind from the source.

It is very popular in bibliometrics to present results on institutions not only as tabular lists, but also on maps (see, for example, the Leiden Ranking). However, the problem with these visualisations is that institutions are frequently spatially clustered in larger cities whereby institutions are positioned one above the other. In this Brief Communication, we propose as an alternative to visualise bibliometric data on the city rather than the institution level to avoid this problem.

Résumé :
This article focuses on the vertical visioning of the bridge as a visual icon of the global city in urban planning, specifically the Bandra-Worli sea link in Mumbai. The author contends that the sea link, launched in 2019 as a way to connect the southern part of the city with its western suburbs, participates in aerial visual significations in which views from above partake in framing of the urban metropolis as an essential aspect of the nation-state’s global modernity aspirations. By analyzing the recurrence of the sea link through a variety of visual illustrations, he suggests that views of the sea link through omniscient perspectives tether urban experiments of modernity to forms of aspirational city planning that are deemed both axiomatic and necessary for urban dreams of development. He contends that ‘reparative’ work in visual culture assumes a task beyond the exposure of ‘unequal scenes’ if it is to grapple with the material contexts of urban repair and redistribution of resources. Rather than views from above or looking from below, the article theorizes a notion of reparation through the ontology of the edge – one that offers speculations of hope beyond the neoliberal logics of infrastructural futurity.

Résumé :
In contemporary town planning protection of urban landscape is a significant issue. It regards especially those cities, where urban structures are the result of ages of evolution and layering of historical development process. Specific panoramas and other strategic views with historic city dominants can be an important part of the cultural heritage and genius loci. Other hand, protection of such expositions introduces limitations for future based city development. Digital Earth observation techniques creates new possibilities for more accurate urban studies, monitoring of urbanization processes and measuring of city landscape parameters. The paper examines possibilities of application of Lidar data and digital 3D-city models for: a) evaluation of strategic city views, b) mapping landscape absorption limits, and c) determination protection zones, where the urbanization and buildings height should be limited. In reference to this goal, the paper introduces a method of computational analysis of the city landscape called Visual Protection Surface (VPS). The method allows to emulate a virtual surface above the city including protection of a selected strategic views. The surface defines maximum height of buildings in such a way, that no new facility can be seen in any of selected views. The research includes also analyses of the quality of simulations according the form and precision of the input data: airborne Lidar / DSM model and more advanced 3D-city models (incl. semantic of the geometry, like in CityGML format). The outcome can be a support for professional planning of tall building development. Application of VPS method have been prepared by a computer program developed by the authors (C++). Simulations were carried out on an example of the city of Dresden.

Résumé :
The paradigmatic turn into network society has radically transformed the capacity to situate ourselves into geographical extension and communities. While the view from above has historically represented privileged vantage points reserved for elites, the popularization of mobile digital devices and the general technological acceleration have disclosed new elevated standpoints to the masses, such as those provided by mobile phones locative applications, imposing them as banal stances in the everyday practice of global citizens. The steady use of internet maps and satellite infrastructure allows the instant telescoping of the individual gaze to the above, augmenting individual capacity to real time position oneself with pinpoint accuracy onto the planetary grid and visually investigate distant realities in trans-scalar continuity. This text proposes the concept of technological urbiquity as a neologism to describe a fast-emerging techno-social condition that provides remote access to almost everything that once was the reason for the city to exist and endorses the process of planetary urbanization. It is a condition that, I want to argue, has a disruptive capacity in respect to consolidated geographical categories and social roles, but that also obscures the emerging subjacent techno-political order and its inherent fragility and unsustainability.

Résumé :
In the third year of the Qingli period in Emperor Song Renzong, Zheng Jian, the envoy of Shaanxi fourth Road, made a formal proposal to build Shuiluocheng. However, this border city construction triggered a year-long debate between the city construction and the anti-city construction. In order to prevent the occurrence of “no military commanders can work for the court”, the court finally chose to reconcile the civil-military relationship instead of solving it according to the actual military situation. Putting this controversy in the political environment of valuing literary talent above martial arts in the Song Dynasty, we find that Emperor Song Renzong’s choice is actually an adjustment of the civil-military relationship that has reached the tension limit.

Résumé :
The effectiveness of robot implementation in various societal sectors depends not only on the robot’s technical characteristics but also on how different social groups perceive and interact with them. Social attitudes towards robots, in turn, are influenced by sociocultural and sociodemographic factors. In the context of the sociology of technology and actor-network theory, this research explores the social significance of technical devices, the processes of social adaptation, and communication with robots. However, empirical research on human-robot interaction (HRI), especially in the Russian context, remains limited. This article presents the results of a study that examines the perceptions of robots by actual and potential users in two aspects: the level of basic social attitudes towards new technologies and robots (social acceptability) and the evaluation of interactions with robots in specific situations (practical acceptability). The empirical basis of the study consists of survey data from customers at a multifunctional center providing state and municipal services in Perm. They received services from either a service anthropomorphic robot, Promobot V.4, or a human employee at the center. Using cluster analysis, three types (clusters) of attitudes towards innovations and robots were identified at the level of basic social attitudes: robo-skeptics, robo-phobes, and robo-philes. The social characteristics of these identified types were examined. The study introduces an original method for measuring satisfaction with actual interactions with service robots based on various parameters (evaluation of service convenience, communication quality, personal activity, willingness to recommend robot services, etc.). The study confirms the hypothesis of the connection between the type of attitude towards innovations and robots and the satisfaction with actual interactions with robots in specific situations. The lowest levels of satisfaction with robot interactions and the desire to avoid such interactions were observed among robo-phobes, who are more frequently represented by individuals of senior age group (age 55 and above). The research results allow determining the prospects for implementing service robots in the public space of a major Russian city based on understanding the social attitudes of users.

Résumé :
This city profile focuses on the patterns of growth, challenges and urban renewal in Khon Kaen Metropolitan Municipality located in Thailand’s north-eastern region. It is presented in the global, Asia-Pacific regional and Southeast Asian context, where the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable urbanization are in a flux. After the Second World War, Khon Kaen emerged as a regional urban centre due to the Thai government’s anticommunist campaign and it being military base to US camps in the US-Vietnam War. As the city rapidly urbanized, it faced diverse challenges, ranging from an influx of rural migrants to environmental degradation. Today, Khon Kaen’s urban challenges are different. As the economy shifts from manufacturing to services, metropolitan government leaders and their constituents seek to transform Khon Kaen into a smart city with a transit-oriented development strategy. Climate change has also affected the city, causing devastating floods and prolonged droughts. Residents in squatter settlements are highly vulnerable to these climate-induced disasters and are under constant threat of eviction. Informed by the development trajectory outlined above, this city profile starts by laying out the global, Asia-Pacific regional and Southeast Asian context, and then discusses Khon Kaen’s rise to prominence as a regional economic and logistic hub in Thailand’s north-eastern region. The city’s current conditions, such as its geographical, historical, economic, social, environmental and administrative and governance contexts, are considered. Then, contemporary challenges of sustainable urban development are explained. This city profile culminates in a discussion of future development strategies for Khon Kaen as a bellwether secondary city in Thailand.

Résumé :
Aim. The aim is to justify the application of the landscape approach in urban planning on the basis of theoretical concepts of landscape studies and the requirements of urban planning practices. Discussion. The basic scheme of the landscape approach is to study the natural and anthropogenic landscape as a complex geosystem consisting of a complex of various components which form the planning structure of the city. In territorial and urban planning, the structure and properties of natural and urban landscapes are revealed using functional, historical-genetic, morphotypic, geo-ecological and visual research methods. Abroad, a similar trend is called "landscape urbanism", the theoretical basis of which is based on the understanding that the best option for the organization of urban areas should be based on the landscape features of the city. With the use of the above-mentioned approaches, an urban landscape approach is being formed, a new nature-urban planning system which, in addition to natural complexes, includes man-made structures: buildings, infrastructure, parks and squares. If the natural landscape is a self-regulating geo-system, then the urban one is controlled by man. When taking actions to transform natural landscapes should be taken into account their structure and functioning, as well as the limits of possible impacts and the likely consequences of these changes. Conclusion. The demand for a landscape approach is constantly growing as a result of the significant transformation of modern cities, the replacement of architectural styles, the growth of urban space and communications, the desire to improve the quality of the urban environment and the comfort of the urban population.

Abstract Pangkalpinang city is one part of Bangka Belitung Archipelago Province which has an area of 118.41 km2 with seven districts and consist of forty-two villages. Based on its location on the eastern part of bangka island make pangkalpinang closer to the coast and watersheds so that it can be said it have a relatively low average land elevation (topography) with a height of 20-50 meters above the sea with a slope of 0-25 %. The research was carried out quantitatively and qualitatively with the parameters of determining the administrative boundaries of each district, the selection of applicable rules regarding the applicable land use zoning or spatial planning (RT/RW), topography, surrounding watersheds, and population density of settlements in Pangkalpinang City. These parameters are then carried out using overlay, scoring and layout techniques to see the distribution of the flood vulnerability level pattern. The results showed that flood vulnerability (very vulnerable) with low topography (0-10 meters above sea level) was in the northwest area of Bukit Intan District and Taman Sari District. Flood vulnerability (vulnerable to less vulnerable) with moderate topographic values (10-19 meters above sea level) is in Gerunggang and Gabek Districts, while vulnerability is not vulnerable with high average topographic values (above 20 meters above sea level). in the northern part in the Districts of Gerunggang, Gabek, and Pangkalbalam. In the northwest part of Pangkalpinang City, if there is an increase in tides or high rainfall intensity, the area will be inundated (flooded).

Résumé :
The production of the #cokedrone YouTube advertisement by Coca-Cola Singapore in 2014 is a manifestation of the broader trend toward the domestication of drone technologies within city spaces, indicating a prolonged desire to eschew its relationship to violence. This article seeks to briefly provide one interpretation into this ad and the broader contextual implications of drones in cities. We argue that while a variety of strategies are clearly deployed within this ad—the redesign of the body of the drone, the attempt to negate the relation between drones and violence, and finally, through the reconfiguration of the drone eye from the eye that ‘watches’ to the eye that ‘sees’—the overall implications of drone technologies within city spaces warrants further investigation. Particularly as drone technologies are easily adaptable to changing environments, often concealing its security and surveillance capabilities, commercial and domestic participants in this trend must be critically aware of the potential consequences underlying the normalisation of drones as part of everyday life in the city.

Résumé :
Nowadays, the use of the concept of "smart city" opens up opportunities to solve economic, social and environmental problems, which significantly affect the conditions and quality of life of the population. Smart technologies are used in many areas that contributes the improving of the quality of services for the daily life of citizens. However, the existing concept of a smart city is still developing and there are significant problems with its security nowadays. Blockchain technology can help to solve this problem. Recently, the introduction of blockchain technologies in various areas has been increasingly discussed in the world. More and more, this technology attracts the attention of Ukrainian specialists in the field of IT technologies and scientists. The features of the introduction of blockchain technologies are based on the impossibility of bureaucratic actions by the state. Unlike the existing system of the smart city management, blockchain technology will allow city residents to communicate directly bypassing bureaucratic schemes. As it is known it is impossible to intervene in the blockchain and change or delete the record, all the actions will be seen by all the participants in the blockchain, the residents of the city. The purpose of this article is to determine the features of the introduction of blockchain technologies in the management of a smart city in order to give state bodies new tools that will reduce the amount of fraud, the number of errors and reduce the expenditure of paper document flow; analysis of foreign experience of blockchain implementation in the city management system. More and more cities of the world join the introduction of smart technologies. The modern trend of civilization is characterized by the rise and development of several megapolises, which merge into a huge urban structure and which in many cases represent the demographic and economic center of the national system. A number of cities in the world are still not ready to switch to the blockchain technology completely, but their government intends to introduce innovations into the management of the city gradually. Nowadays the blockchain technology plays a key role, as it can allow ICT to fit into an anthropologically ideal social and political context. The blockchain is the technology that can ensure full social equality, democracy, because it assumes that everyone controls everyone but not special bodies. It creates the conditions for the managemental pyramid to line up from below and above at the same time, and not just from above. Therefore, the blockchain technology provides not only the Smart City technology, beneficial to bureaucrats, but something more significant - direct coordination of actions between residents as a condition for their self-organization.

Résumé :
This research was conducted on Kalimantan Island, an island with many geomorphological rivers and a comparative regional and cultural development history, with a number of parks on the river banks. This research is different from most other competitive location studies because it examines competition based on differences in the number of different park types. This study utilized a quantitative method, with big-data-based and google review footprint as the basis for the number of visitors and evaluates location rankings. The results show that city parks on the river bank have high competitiveness. However, they have a weakness in the relatively high quantity ratio, which is 14: 100 parks compared to river bank city parks. Based on the study results, at the provincial level, city parks on the river banks were still able to dominate the most visited and location satisfaction ratings in three of the five existing provinces. The percentage level of park distribution at a minimum of above 15-16% has provided dominant competitiveness for city parks on river banks. This result shows that city parks on river banks have unique competitiveness. This study has a location discussion of a comprehensive park location with an island coverage, the weakness of this research is that it uses internet review to track information on the number of visitors.

Résumé :
Soundscape is an important part and one of the main factors of the underground space environment. Field surveys were conducted to evaluate the soundscape of underground commercial spaces and to compare it with the soundscape of the above-ground commercial spaces between two cities (Lu’an City and Hefei City) in China, consequently presenting the construction strategy of the soundscape of underground commercial spaces in urban areas. The results showed that the sound in the shopping center, which people found comfortable, was at the lower to intermediate level. The main sounds that people perceived as “general” sounds were environmental sounds such as music, the humming of the air conditioning, people talking, walking, and the hawking of the stores. Nevertheless, “very comfortable” sounds were background music and the sound of live performances, which were indicated in the majority of people’s opinions on evaluating a comfortable feeling, thus reflecting the impact of the sound of mall music on people′s cognitive psychology. Therefore, it is necessary to control the volume of environmental noise at a certain level so that people’s health is not adversely affected. It also helps shoppers to feel more comfortable psychologically and physiologically.

Résumé :
This paper presents a statistical analysis of the pollution levels for heavy metals and organic micropollutants at 182 sediment stations in the city canals of Delft. High pollution levels were especially observed in the inner city canal sediments, probably related to the import of polluted river Rhine water. In contrast, the more-or-less isolated outer city sites were generally much less polluted. Regression analysis on the database generally showed highly significant correlations between individual heavy metal contents. The heavy metal contents were usually significantly correlated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) as well. This points to one or more common sources for these micropollutants. Factor analysis and the K-means cluster analysis technique were applied on the above database; it showed a large cluster of stations, nearly all located in the outer city of Delft, characterized by relatively low heavy metal and organic micropollutants’ contents. Another cluster of 18 stations, mostly located in the inner city of Delft, possessed intermediate pollution levels, directly related with the supply of river Rhine water. Finally, the stations of a third cluster, situated in the inner city as well, were highly polluted, especially by local pollution sources. The above hypotheses were further supported by a more detailed statistical analysis for a number of inner city stations, together with 10-year river Rhine pollution data.

Résumé :
Several scholarly works and media reports claim that the Christian minority in Pakistan is mistreated, persecuted, and discriminated against, giving an overall impression as if Christians are alienated from the main social stream everywhere in Pakistan and that the public at large is responsible for their miseries. Noticing that most of the above-mentioned works are theoretical or based on journalistic information, an attempt has been made through this empirical case study of Peshawar city to know the situation of Christian-Muslim coexistence on the ground. For this purpose, a mix method approach was used combining quantitative survey, qualitative interviews, and group discussions. Contrary to the prevailing negative impression, this study reveals that to a large measure Christian and Muslim communities are living together peacefully, at least in Peshawar city. Quantitatively, 68% of respondents, both Christians and Muslims, viewed their mutual social and neighborhood interaction as positive. The results of qualitative interviews also supported these findings. It is, therefore, concluded that apart from some Christian concerns which need to be addressed, overall Christian-Muslim coexistence at the societal level might not be marred by religious differences everywhere in Pakistan. Negative generalizations in this regard need to be revisited, to say the least.

Résumé :
The utility of the destination brand experience directly originates from the type of feelings of audiences present in a city. In this study, after recognising the components affecting the sense of place, their relationship with the tourism brand experience in the city of Shiraz, Iran was assessed, and the way the components made effects were investigated as well. To achieve this end, as stated above, this research was conducted using a case study of Shiraz city. The data collection was performed through observation and questionnaire, and the data analysis technique was a combination of quantitative (using SPSS software) and qualitative methods. The obtained results demonstrated that all factors in each form, activity and meaning components affected the sense of place in Shiraz; however, factors associated with the city’s history, such as historical attractions and famous people, had a remarkable effect when compared to others. Overall, consideration of the indicators influencing the sense of place in all aspects, particularly the management and operational ones (design and execution), results in a more robust connection of the audience with the destination brand, growth of sustainable tourism in Shiraz, and successful competition in the international arena.
