Résumé :
Tonsillitis is a common and frequent disease in childhood, divided into acute tonsillitis and chronic tonsillitis. Acute tonsillitis is caused by pathogens invading the tonsils. Symptoms: fever, cough, sore throat, fever in severe cases, difficulty swallowing, and examination reveals the tonsils are hyperemic, swollen and festering. The tonsils have acute attacks more than 4 times a year, which can be diagnosed as chronic tonsillitis, mostly caused by pathogens in the fossa of the tonsils. On examination, hypertrophy, hyperemia or secretion of the tonsils and enlargement of the submandibular lymph nodes can be seen

Résumé :
A chronic cough in children is defined in the British Thoracic Society guidelines as a cough of 8 weeks or more. The aetiology of a chronic cough in children differs from adult populations, due to decreased cough reflex control in children, differences in airway anatomy and physiology, and immunological and neurological maturation changes. The three most common causes of chronic cough in adults (asthma, gastro-oesophageal reflux, and upper airway cough syndrome) account for less than 10% of the causes in children. Thus, it is important to assess and manage chronic cough in children differently.

Résumé :
CRS symptoms in children can be mild and uncharacteristic. The disease is multifactorial, and therefore requires a multifaceted, multidisciplinary approach. Treatment of CRS in children is difficult, infections often recur, and treatment methods are often ineffective. In children, surgery is performed infrequently, only when other therapies have failed. The first stage of surgery is adenoidectomy. Functional endoscopic surgery of the paranasal sinuses may be considered if no improvement of the patient after exhausting all possibilities of conservative treatment.

Résumé :
Practical joint dietetic/medical guidelines are required for children with differing levels of severity of chronic renal insufficiency (CRI). This thesis describes the current dietetic/medical package of care provided within a specialised paediatric renal unit, and provides an insight into considerations for future clinical guidelines. Children were grouped at baseline following [51Cr]-labelled EDTA glomerular filtration rate (GFR, m1/min/1.73m2) estimations, into 'normal' kidney function [GFR > 75, mean 106 (SD 19.5), n=58], providing baseline data only, mild (GFR 51-75, n=27), moderate (GFR 25-50, n=21) and severe (GFR < 25, n=19) CRI. Those with CRI were followed for two years and 51 children completed the study (19 mild, 19 moderate, 13 severe CRI). Baseline and 6 monthly measurements of anthropometry, blood pressure, laboratory investigations and yearly dietary intakes (3-day semi-quantitative diaries) were obtained. EDTA GFR's were compared to estimations of GFR using serum cystatin C and plasma creatinine/height concentrations. Amongst the findings, mean standard deviation scores (SDS) for all anthropometric markers deteriorated with worsening renal function at baseline, from mean SDS for weight, height, body mass index and mid upper arm circumference in 'normal' children of O.28 (SD 1.0), 0.19 (SD 1.0),0.21 (SD 1.1) and 0.39 (SD 1.0) respectively, to values of -1.32 (SD 1.0), -1.55 (SD 1.1), -0.44 (SD 1.1) and -0.58 (SD 0.9) in severe CRI. Over two years, mean height SDS significantly increased in children with severe CRI (p=0.003) and was maintained in mild and moderate CRI, despite deterioration in renal function. Correlation between changes in energy intake and height SDS was observed in severe CRI (r2=0.5, p=0.001). From individual observations and correlation, higher phosphate and sodium intakes appeared to be associated with greater deterioration in estimated GFR in children with mild CRI. An inverse correlation between calcium intake and plasma parathyroid hormone was observed in severe CRI (r2=0.27, p=0.065). Disturbances in nutritional intakes, bone biochemistry and growth occurred early in the course of CRI and deterioration in renal function, as determined by estimated GPR, was greatest in those with mild CRI. Regular joint dietetic/medical intervention is likely to be beneficial in children with mild and moderate CRI, in addition to those with more severe CRI, to both correct initial disturbances and reduce the chances of progression.

Résumé :
Review question / Objective: To our knowledge, no meta-analysis has summarized social cognitive performance in children and adolescents with epilepsy as independent groups. Therefore, we conducted this meta-analysis to examine differences between children and adolescents with epilepsy and HCs in terms of ToM and FER performance. Condition being studied: Epilepsy is characterized by chronic, unprovoked and recurrent seizures, is the most frequent neurological disease in childhood and usually occurs in early development. Worldwide, it is estimated that approximately 50 million people suffer from the pain of epileptic seizures, with more than half of the cases beginning in childhood and adolescence. So a comprehensive understanding of children and adolescence with epilepsy has become the focus of widespread attention. Recently, a number of studies have assessed ToM or facial emotion recognition deficits in children and adolescents with epilepsy, but the conclusions are inconsistent. These inconsistent findings might be related to the small sample sizes in most studies. Additionally, the methods used to evaluate ToM or facial emotion recognition performance were varied across studies. A meta-analysis can increase statistical power, estimate the severity of these deficits, and help resolve conflicting findings.

Résumé :
Statistics show that in recent years there has been an increase in the number of families falling into a socially dangerous situation. According to statistics provided by the departments for juvenile affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Cherepovets, the number of crimes in 2021 decreased by only 2.1% compared to 2020. This was influenced by objective factors, in particular the low standard of living, "chronic" unemployment, alcohol abuse, drug use. Having embarked on such a path, the family degrades socially and morally, condemning children to the same existence. It is not surprising that children leave home, spend most of their time on the street, thereby replenishing antisocial groups. Thus, we can say that the current system of working with children of the SOP is not effective enough, since there is no clear algorithm for working with children in a socially dangerous situation. Therefore, methodological recommendations for working with children were developed by the SOP, which includes a telephone communication script for employees of the youth center, as well as a clear and understandable algorithm for working with children in a socially dangerous situation. These guidelines for working with children of SOP are clear and easy to use, and most importantly, they do not require special psychological knowledge, skills and abilities.

Résumé :
Review question / Objective: For Chinese children, to explore whether air pollution increases the incidence of allergic rhinitis in children. Condition being studied: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a common chronic inflammatory disease in the upper airways, causing nasal congestion, itching, runny nose, and sneezing. It has serious impacts on people's quality of lives, and affects economic growth indirectly. Epidemiological studies revealed that 10% to 40% of the population were suffering from AR worldwide. In addition, children are more likely to develop allergic rhinitis than adults. The prevalence of allergic rhinitis in children is 25% worldwide, and 4% ~ 31% in China. Eligibility criteria: (1) Trials in which children were AR, and the diagnosis of "AR" was in line with the international guidelines. (2) Children’s age was limited of 0-18 years, and they were born and lived in China and at least one year of exposure to air pollution.(3) Air pollutant concentration in the test was derived from the mean value of data provided by ambient air detectors. (Include NO2, SO2, O3, PM10, PM2.5) (4) Literatures only include cross-sectional studies, cohort and case-control studies. (5) All of these articles provide data that allows us to calculate 95% confidence interval (CI) of the influence of air pollutants on AR. (6) Trials published in English only.

Résumé :
Learning to cope with disappointments and overcoming obstacles is part of growing up. By conquering some challenges, children develop resilience. Such normal stressors may include initiating a new activity or separation from parents during preschool hours. However, when the challenges in early childhood are intensified by important stressors happening outside their own lives, they may start to worry about the safety of themselves and their families. This may cause chronic stress, which interferes with their emotional, cognitive, and social development. In developing country contexts, it is especially hard to capture promptly the effects of stressors related to the COVID-19 pandemic on childrens cognitive and socioemotional development. In this note, we draw on the literature on the effect of stress on brain development and examine data from a recent survey of households with young children carried out in four Latin American countries to offer suggestions for policy responses. We suggest that early childhood and education systems play a decisive role in assessing and addressing childrens mental health needs. In the absence of forceful policy responses on multiple fronts, the mental health outcomes may become lasting.

Résumé :
Childhood asthma is a significant public health problem in the United States. Barriers to effective asthma management in children include the need for caregivers to identify and manage diverse environmental triggers and promote appropriate use of preventive asthma medications. Although health care providers may introduce asthma treatments and care plans, many providers lack the time and capacity to educate caregivers about asthma in an ongoing, sustained manner. To help address these complexities of asthma care, many providers and caregivers rely on patient navigators (defined as persons who provide patients with a particular set of services and who address barriers to care) (Dohan & Schrag, 2005). Despite growing interest in their value for chronic disease management, researchers and providers know little about how or what benefits patient navigators can provide to caregivers in managing asthma in children. To explore this issue, we conducted a mixed-method evaluation involving focus groups and a survey with caregivers of children with moderate-to-severe asthma who were enrolled in the Merck Childhood Asthma Network Initiative (MCAN). Findings suggest that patient navigators may support children’s asthma management by providing individualized treatment plans and hands-on practice, improving caregivers’ understanding of environmental triggers and their mitigation, and giving clear, accessible instructions for proper medication management. Study results may help to clarify and further develop the role of patient navigators for the effective management of asthma in children.
