Résumé :
In the presence of rotation, gravity induces, even at zero temperature, a chiral vortical current. This current is interpreted as emerging from the gravitational Chern–Simons current. We argue that this gravitational Chern–Simons chiral vortical current may provide a novel universal microscopic mechanism behind the generation of collimated jets from rotating astrophysical compact sources.

Résumé :
The WZNW and string models are considered in terms of the initial and invariant chiral currents assuming that the internal and external torsions coincide (anticoincide) and they are the structure constants of the SU(n), SO(n), SP(n) Lie algebras. These models are the auxiliary problems in order to construct integrable equations of hydrodynamic type. It was shown that the WZNW and string models in terms of invariant chiral currents are integrable for the constant torsion associated with the structure constants of the SU(2), SO(3), SP(2) and SU(3) algebras only. The equation of motion for the density of the first Casimir operator was obtained in the form of the inviscid Burgers equation. The solution of this equation is presented through the Lambert function. Also, a new equation of motion for the initial chiral current was found. The integrable infinite hydrodynamic chains obtained from the WZNW and string models are given in terms of invariant chiral currents with the SU(2), SO(3), SP(2) and with SU(∞), SO(∞), SP(∞) constant torsions. Also, the equations of motion for the density of any Casimir operator and new infinite-dimensional equations of hydrodynamic type for the initial chiral currents through the symmetric structure constant of SU(∞), SO(∞), SP(∞) algebras are obtained.

Résumé :
Relativistic heavy ion collisions represent an arena for the probe of various anomalous transport effects. Those effects, in turn, reveal the correspondence between the solid state physics and the high energy physics, which share the common formalism of quantum field theory. It may be shown that for the wide range of field–theoretic models, the response of various nondissipative currents to the external gauge fields is determined by the momentum space topological invariants. Thus, the anomalous transport appears to be related to the investigation of momentum space topology—the approach developed earlier mainly in the condensed matter theory. Within this methodology we analyse systematically the anomalous transport phenomena, which include, in particular, the anomalous quantum Hall effect, the chiral separation effect, the chiral magnetic effect, the chiral vortical effect and the rotational Hall effect.

Résumé :
We investigate N=2 extended superconformal symmetry, using the half-twisted Landau-Ginzburg models. The first example is the D2n+2 type minimal model. It has been conjectured that this model has a spin n super-W-current. We check this by direct computations of the BRST cohomology class up to n=4. We observe that for n≤3 the super-W-currents generate the ring isomorphic to the chiral ring of the model with respect to the classical product. We thus conjecture that this isomorphism holds for any n. The next example is the CPn coset model. In this case we find a sort of Miura transformation which gives a simple formula for the super-W-currents of spin {1, 2, …, n} in terms of the chiral superfields. Explicit forms of the super-W-currents and their Poisson brackets are obtained for the CP2 and CP3 cases. We also conjecture that as far as the classical product is concerned, these super-W-currents generate the ring isomorphic to the chiral ring of the model, and this is checked for CP2 coset model.

Résumé :
In this paper, we discuss the behavior of conformal field theories interacting at a single point. The edge states of the quantum Hall effect (QHE) system give rise to a particular representation of a chiral Kac–Moody current algebra. We show that in the case of QHE systems interacting at one point we obtain a "twisted" representation of the current algebra. The condition for stationarity of currents is the same as the classical Kirchoff's law applied to the currents at the interaction point. We find that in the case of two discs touching at one point, since the currents are chiral, they are not stationary and one obtains current oscillations between the two discs. We determine the frequency of these oscillations in terms of an effective parameter characterizing the interaction. The chiral conformal field theories can be represented in terms of bosonic Lagrangians with a boundary interaction. We discuss how these one-point interactions can be represented as boundary conditions on fields, and how the requirement of chirality leads to restrictions on the interactions described by these Lagrangians. By gauging these models we find that the theory is naturally coupled to a Chern–Simons gauge theory in 2+1 dimensions, and this coupling is completely determined by the requirement of anomaly cancellation.

We consider anomalous commutators between the charge density and any component of the gauge current in chiral gauge theories. This is done using the BJL definition of commutators, and without quantizing the gauge field. We study the relation between the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of these commutators for the case of consistent and covariant gauge currents. We obtain a simple relation valid for any dimension and gauge group. This relation shows that the difference between the VEV's of the commutators for the consistent and covariant gauge currents depends only on the difference between the VEV's of the corresponding currents.

Résumé :
The isovector–vector and the isovector–axial-vector current are related by a chiral transformation. These currents can be called chiral partners at the fundamental level. In a world where chiral symmetry was not broken, the corresponding current-current correlators would show the same spectral information. In the real world chiral symmetry is spontaneously broken. A prominent peak — the ρ-meson — shows up in the vector spectrum (measured in e+e--collisions and τ-decays). On the other hand, in the axial-vector spectrum a broad bump appears — the a1-meson (also accessible in τ-decays). It is tempting to call ρ and a1 chiral partners at the hadronic level. Strong indications are brought forward that these "chiral partners" do not only differ in mass but even in their nature: The ρ-meson appears dominantly as a quark-antiquark state with small modifications from an attractive pion-pion interaction. The a1-meson, on the other hand, can be understood as a meson-molecule state mainly formed by the attractive interaction between pion and ρ-meson. A key issue here is that the meson-meson interactions are fixed by chiral symmetry breaking. It is demonstrated that one can understand the vector and the axial-vector spectrum very well within this interpretation. It is also shown that the opposite cases, namely ρ as a pion-pion molecule or a1 as a quark-antiquark state lead to less satisfying results. Finally speculations on possible in-medium changes of hadron properties are presented.

Résumé :
We derive new constraints on multipoint amplitudes involving chiral currents. These constraints are valid for arbitrary values of the momenta of the currents, and for arbitrary chiral symmetry-breaking schemes. Examples of how these constraints are realized for several symmetry-breaking patterns are given, and relations to the Wess—Zumino action are discussed. The constraints are shown to result from the presence of nonAbelian phases on surfaces in gauge group parameter space. They represent subtler manifestations of a general class of topological structures, the simplest of which gives rise to the nonAbelian anomaly equation by the Abelian phase winding.

Résumé :
This paper reviews calculations of the electromagnetic properties of baryons using the constituent quark model. We start with a short discussion of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking, which is essential in understanding the transition from QCD to the constituent quark model. We then discuss a chiral version of the constituent quark model, which simulates the symmetries and dynamical content of the underlying field theory in terms of gluon, pion and sigma exchange between constituent quarks. We show that the electromagnetic current charge and current operators, usually approximated by one-body operators (impulse approximation), must be supplemented by appropriate two-body terms (exchange currents). The latter represent the gluon and pion exchange degrees of freedom in the electromagnetic current operator. These exchange currents must be included for reasons of completeness and consistency. Most importantly, however, they are needed in order for the electromagnetic current to be conserved. We also study the effect of scalar exchange currents connected with the confinement and sigma exchange potentials. By including these twobody exchange currents we go beyond the single-quark impulse approximation, which has mainly been used up to now. The inclusion of gluon- pion-, and scalar-exchange currents in the quark potential model is the new point of the present work. We show that for some observables, such as the magnetic moments, charge, and magnetic radii of the proton and charged Δ (1232) states, exchange currents contribute at the level of some 10%. The same holds true for the magnetic moments of the entire baryon octet, with the exception of the Ξ- magnetic moment. On the other hand, the neutron charge radius, the quadrupole moments of the Δ, and the N → Δ transition quadrupole moment, are dominated by pion and gluon exchange contributions to the charge density operator. The inclusion of the pion and gluon exchange currents leads to a neutron charge radius of the correct size and sign. Based on the gluon and pion exchange current diagrams, we derive parameter-free relations between the neutron charge radius, the quadrupole moment of the Δ, and the N → Δ transition quadrupole moment. Neglecting configuration mixing, we find that the neutron charge radius and the N → Δ transition quadrupole moment are simply related as QN→Δ = r2n√2. The implications of Siegert's theorem for the calculation of the E2 form factor in the N → Δ transition are studied. Finally, we discuss the axial coupling constant of the nucleon. We show that the inclusion of axial pair exchange currents does not significantly alter the NRQM prediction.

In addition, we derive an alternative linear system for this model from our constructed nonlocal currents. We highlight some features of our modelling and offer comments. Résumé :
In recent years, laser control of electrons in molecular system and condensed matter has attracted considerable attention with rapid progress in laser science and technology [. In particular, control of π-electron rotation in photo-induced chiral aromatic molecules has potential utility to the next-generation ultrafast switching devices. In this paper, we present a fundamental principle of generation of ultrafast coherent ring currents and the control in photo-induced aromatic molecules. This is based on quantum dynamics simulations of π-electron rotations and preparation of unidirectional angular momentum by ultrashort UV laser pulses properly designed. For this purpose, we adopt 2,5-dichloro [(3,6) pyrazinophane (DCPH) fixed on a surface, which is a real chiral aromatic molecule with plane chirality. Here π electrons can be rotated along the aromatic ring clockwise or counterclockwise by irradiation of a linearly polarized laser pulse with the properly designed photon polarization direction and the coherent ring current with the definite direction along the aromatic ring is prepared. This is contrast to ordinary ring current in an achiral aromatic ring molecule with degenerate electronic excited state, which is prepared by a circularly polarized laser [2]. In this case, π electrons rotate along the Z-axis of the laboratory coordinates, while for the present case electrons rotate along the z-axis in molecular Cartesian coordinates. It should be noted that signals originated from the coherent ring currents prepared by linearly polarized ultrashort UV lasers are specific to the chiral molecule of interest.

Résumé :
AbstractWe show that the second-harmonic generation (SHG) is enhanced in the chiral one-dimensional electron currents in a broad frequency range. The origin of the enhancement is twofold: first, the linear dispersion of the quasiparticles and the associated plasmonic mode as well as the quasi-linear dispersion of plasmon-polariton result in the lift of the phase-matching condition. Moreover, the strong field localization leads to the further increase of the SHG in the structure. The results suggest that the chiral currents localized at the domain walls of magnetic topological insulators can be an efficient source of the second-harmonic signal in the terahertz frequency range.

Résumé :
The radiative capture process np→dγ is considered within the framework of a recently developed six-quark dressed-bag model for the nucleon-nucleon interaction. The calculations presented here include both the nucleon current and the meson-exchange current contributions. The latter uses short-range hadronic form factors for the pion exchange currents consistent with the soft cut-off parameter ΛπNN from the NN-potential. Contributions of the pion exchange current and Δ-isobar current to the total cross-section still cannot explain the discrepancy between the theoretical and experimental cross-sections. Possibilities for new types of meson exchange currents associated with chiral fields inside multi-quark dressed-bag states in nuclei are discussed.

Résumé :
Owing to the chirality of Weyl nodes, the Weyl systems can support one-way chiral zero modes under a strong magnetic field, which leads to nonconservation of chiral currents—the so-called chiral anomaly. Although promising for robust transport of optical information, the zero chiral bulk modes have not been observed in photonics. Here we design an inhomogeneous Weyl metamaterial in which a gauge field is generated for the Weyl nodes by engineering the individual unit cells. We experimentally confirm the presence of the gauge field and observe the zero-order chiral Landau level with one-way propagation. Without breaking the time-reversal symmetry, our system provides a route for designing an artificial magnetic field in three-dimensional photonic Weyl systems and may have potential for device applications in photonics.

Résumé :
It is here shown that the topological property of a fermion which gives rise to the fermion number and is related to chiral anomaly may be taken to lead to weak interaction gauge bosons when currents are written in chiral form. The gauge bosons attain mass topologically through the generation of internal helicities and thus no Higgs scalar is needed to have spontaneous symmetry breaking. Moreover the group structure SU(2)×U(1) is inbuilt here for electroweak unification. The Weinberg angle gets a physical meaning and strangeness changing neutral lepton current interaction is automatically forbidden. This formalism also suggests that at very high temperature, weak interaction will be of long range in nature.

Résumé :
We analyze the chiral magnetic effect for non-Hermitian fermionic systems using the bi-orthogonal formulation of quantum mechanics. In contrast to the Hermitian counterparts, we show that the chiral magnetic effect takes place in equilibrium when a non-Hermitian system is considered. The key observation is that for non-Hermitian charged systems, there is no strict charge conservation as understood in Hermitian systems, so the Bloch theorem preventing currents in the thermodynamic limit and in equilibrium does not apply.

Résumé :
It is shown that the electric dipole- and electric quadrupole–anapole polarizabilities, denoted respectively by fαβ′ and gα,βγ′, and the anapole magnetizability aαβ, are intrinsic properties of the electron cloud of molecules responding to optical fields. fαβ′ is a nonvanishing property of chiral and achiral compounds, whereas aαβ is suitable for enantiomer discrimination of chiral species. They can conveniently be evaluated by numerical integration, employing a formulation complementary to that provided by perturbation theory and relying on the preliminary computation of electronic current density tensors all over the molecular domain. The origin dependence of the dynamic anapolar response is rationalized via related computational techniques employing numerical integration, as well as definitions of molecular property tensors, for example, electric dipole and electric quadrupole polarizabilties and magnetizability. A preliminary application of the theory is reported for the Ra enantiomer of the hydrogen peroxide molecule, evaluating tensor components of electric dipole-anapole polarizability and anapole magnetizability as functions of the dihedral angle ϕ≡∠ H-O-O-H in the range 0∘≤ϕ≤180∘.

Résumé :
Abstract In this article, we review the status of the calculation of nuclear currents within chiral effective field theory. After formal discussion of the unitary transformation technique and its application to nuclear currents we give all available expressions for vector, axial-vector currents. Vector and axial-vector currents are discussed up to order Q with leading-order contribution starting at order $$Q^{-3}$$ Q - 3 . Pseudoscalar and scalar currents will be discussed up to order $$Q^0$$ Q 0 with leading-order contribution starting at order $$Q^{-4}$$ Q - 4 . This is a complete set of expressions in next-to-next-to-next-to-leading-order (N$$^3$$ 3 LO) analysis for nuclear scalar, pseudoscalar, vector and axial-vector current operators. Differences between vector and axial-vector currents calculated via transfer-matrix inversion and unitary transformation techniques are discussed. The importance of a consistent regularization is an additional point which is emphasized: lack of a consistent regularization of axial-vector current operators is shown to lead to a violation of the chiral symmetry in the chiral limit at order Q. For this reason a hybrid approach at order Q, discussed in various publications, is non-applicable. To respect the chiral symmetry the same regularization procedure needs to be used in the construction of nuclear forces and current operators. Although full expressions of consistently regularized current operators are not yet available, the isoscalar part of the electromagnetic charge operator up to order Q has a very simple form and can be easily regularized in a consistent way. As an application, we review our recent high accuracy calculation of the deuteron charge form factor with a quantified error estimate.
