Texte intégralThe keyword of my research work is “Painting” – one of the most imaginable words in the world. When we look at it today, we see the infinite, magic grandeur of a castle. To understand it better, we need a flashlight; the spot of light helps us see the best we can in the dark.In the context of contemporary painting, one of the main questions for this research is the possibility of developing this traditional medium in the field of contemporary art. The focus is not only on the dynamicity of painting, but also on the quality of contemporary painting. Of course, my main goal is not to do a simple examination of work processes of contemporary painters in a general manner. Rather, I try to propose a theory that can provide an answer to the title of my thesis: Painting, live or dead? If painting is still considered as a dynamic artistic medium today, never having ceased to exist, it is thanks to numerous efforts and explorations done, in my opinion, in the context of the renewal of work processes and concepts. At the heart of these actions and reactions lies a question, touching upon the word “renewal”, referring both to the work process and the concepts used in contemporary painting. This thesis comprises five chapters, following the same order as that of the research work done behind it. Similar to my work process in painting, layers of research work are put one upon another, to shape the whole space of the final work
Jacob, François. « La beat generation : à la croisée des chemins de l'art et de la littérature (1944-1975) ». Thesis, Aix-Marseille 1, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011AIX10149.
Texte intégralThis study exlpores the relationship between art and the "Beat Generation". It mainly focuses on the plastic works of William S. Burroughs (1914-1997), Jack Kerouac (1922-1969)and en Ginsberg (1926-1997). The field of research covers the period from 1944 to 1975, i.e. from the formation of the Group to the end of the idea of counterculture. The analysis does not limit itself to the description of the back and forth movements between literature and the arts. The "Beat Generation" writers were in fact directly connected to the art of their time and explored all kinds of plastic techniques to express themselves independently from their lierary works. In addressing the adventures of the artistic experience, the three "Beats" were confronted with the notion of "ekphrasis" and obviously prolonged an old legacy through different artistic disciplines like painting, drawing or collage
