Résumé :
In sixteenth-century Germany, a particular financial operation called widerkaufflicher Zins or five percent contract sparked massive legal and theological controversies. This contract produced effects like a loan and therefore countered the interest-taking prohibition. Martin Luther (1483-1546), Philipp Melanchthon (1497-1560), Johannes Brenz (1499-1570), Johannes Aepinus (1499-1553), Urbanus Rhegius (1489-1541), Martin Chemnitz (1522-1586), Aegidius Hunnius (1550-1603), and Johann Gerhard (1582-1637) addressed this issue. They ended up reformulating the prohibition on interest and mapping out a set of rules for the right use of this contract. This article will survey their opinions paying attention to the points where their teachings resembled the Catholics or where they took a different path.

Objectives Some studies suggested more COVID-19-associated hospitalizations among racial and ethnic minorities. To inform public health practice, the COVID-19-associated Hospitalization Surveillance Network (COVID-NET) quantified associations between race/ethnicity, census tract socioeconomic indicators, and COVID-19-associated hospitalization rates. Methods Using data from COVID-NET population-based surveillance reported during March 1–April 30, 2020 along with socioeconomic and denominator data from the US Census Bureau, we calculated COVID-19-associated hospitalization rates by racial/ethnic and census tract-level socioeconomic strata. Results Among 16,000 COVID-19-associated hospitalizations, 34.8% occurred among non-Hispanic White (White) persons, 36.3% among non-Hispanic Black (Black) persons, and 18.2% among Hispanic or Latino (Hispanic) persons. Age-adjusted COVID-19-associated hospitalization rate were 151.6 (95% Confidence Interval (CI): 147.1–156.1) in census tracts with >15.2%–83.2% of persons living below the federal poverty level (high-poverty census tracts) and 75.5 (95% CI: 72.9–78.1) in census tracts with 0%–4.9% of persons living below the federal poverty level (low-poverty census tracts). Among White, Black, and Hispanic persons living in high-poverty census tracts, age-adjusted hospitalization rates were 120.3 (95% CI: 112.3–128.2), 252.2 (95% CI: 241.4–263.0), and 341.1 (95% CI: 317.3–365.0), respectively, compared with 58.2 (95% CI: 55.4–61.1), 304.0 (95%: 282.4–325.6), and 540.3 (95% CI: 477.0–603.6), respectively, in low-poverty census tracts. Conclusions Overall, COVID-19-associated hospitalization rates were highest in high-poverty census tracts, but rates among Black and Hispanic persons were high regardless of poverty level. Public health practitioners must ensure mitigation measures and vaccination campaigns address needs of racial/ethnic minority groups and people living in high-poverty census tracts.

Résumé :
The United States is experiencing an opioid use disorder epidemic. The Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act allows nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) to obtain a Drug Enforcement Administration waiver to prescribe medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder. This study projected the potential increase in MAT availability provided by NPs and PAs for rural patients. Using workforce and survey data, and state scope of practice regulations, the number of treatment slots that could be provided by NPs and PAs was estimated for rural areas. NPs and PAs are projected to increase the number of rural patients treated with buprenorphine by 10,777 (15.2%). Census Divisions varied substantially in the number of projected new treatment slots per 10,000 population (0.8-10.6). The New England and East South Central Census Divisions are projected to have the largest population-adjusted increase. NPs and PAs have considerable potential to reduce substantial MAT access disparities.

Résumé :
The censor’s office was of crucial importance to the polity during the Republic, being an indispensable element of maintaining the balance. Censors were elected by the centuriate assemblies, which also voted a lex centuriata for them. As there is no doubt concerning the censorial ius contionandi, it seems that the censors never convened the comitia. It does not mean that they lacked competence: it was customary that they convoked the people only for the purpose of the lustratio ceremony ending the census. The censors’ influence on the comitia resulted from their power to decide on a citizen’s membership in a certain property class, centuria and tribus. Censorial notes enabled them to interfere with the citizen’s social status.

Résumé :
Introduction: The objective of this study is to identify the number of anaesthesiologists working in Portugal and to monitor the national activity of this medical specialty by comparing it with a similar Census performed in 2014.Material and Methods: Observational cross-sectional study. Data related to the month of May 2017 was collected from Anaesthesiology departments of 53 Portuguese public institutions from a total of 86 hospitals. Results: The Census registered 615 127 surgical procedures (3.4% more than in 2013), 84.1% of which on a non-emergent basis, and 49.6% day case surgery (6.1% more than in 2013). Moreover, 89 608 procedures were performed outside the operating rooms (19.0% less than in 2013), 282 944 were anaesthetic clinics (1.3% more than in 2013) and 112 183 were chronic pain evaluations (13.1% more than in 2013). In addition, 51 380 labour analgesia were performed for delivery (14.3% more than in 2013) corresponding to 70.5% of all deliveries occurring in the Obstetric department of Portuguese public hospitals in 2016 (5% more than in 2013). A total of 1280 Anaesthesiologists were identified (2.1% more than in May 2014), corresponding to a ratio of 12.4 per 100 000 inhabitants (it was 12.0 in May 2014). Together with the 262 anaesthesiologists that work exclusively in the private system, we found a total sum of 1542 anaesthesiologists indicating a ratio of 15.1 per 100 000 inhabitants (it was 13.9 in 2014).Discussion: We predict that the identified deficit of 541 anaesthesiologists in the Portuguese National Health Service should bereduced by two thirds until 2023. The reduction of the shortage of anaesthesiologists will allow an increase in human resource capacity in Anaesthesiology. Conclusion: Even though there was a slight increase in the ratio of Anaesthesiologists per inhabitant in 2017 compared to 2014, Portugal maintains a shortage of Anaesthesiologists.

Résumé :
Abstract We present the discovery of VVV J165507.19−421755.5, a mid-T dwarf found through ongoing unWISE-based proper motion searches. A near-infrared spectrum of this object obtained with the NIRES instrument on the Keck II telescope indicates a spectral classification of T5. Using data from the VISTA Variables in the Via Lactea (VVV) catalog with a 9 year baseline, we measure a proper motion of ( μ α cos ( δ ) , μ δ ) = (−631.0 ± 1.3, −315.0 ± 1.4) mas yr−1 and a trigonometric parallax of π abs = 66.0 ± 4.8 mas, corresponding to a distance of 15.2 ± 1.1 pc. The trigonometric parallax agrees well with our photometric distance estimate (16.1 − 3.9 + 5.1 pc) assuming that VVV J165507.19−421755.5 is a single T5 dwarf. VVV J165507.19−421755.5 is a new member of the 20 parsec census.

Résumé :
OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence of inflammatory periodontal disease (IPD) in individuals treated in a university dental clinic located in the Center-West of Brazil. METHODS: We performed a retrospective cross-sectional study with census sample. Previously collected data from dental records were tabulated and analyzed descriptively. RESULTS: 151 patients were included on the research. Approximately 60% presented gingivitis and 32.4% periodontitis. 85.4% showed high plaque index (>10%) and 31.7% declared not to use dental floss. 12% of the participants reported being diabetic and 17.2% were smokers. The prevalence of deep pockets was the worst periodontal condition found (15.2%). CONCLUSION: The prevalence of ILD found in this population was higher than the Brazilian national average. The results can be useful to support buccal and general health promotion strategies on public policies.

Résumé :
Abstract Child labour in India involves the largest number of children in any single country in the world. In 2011, 11.8 million children between the ages of 5 and 17 were main workers (those working more than 6 mo) according to the Indian Census. Our estimate of child labour using a combined-data approach is slightly higher than that: 13.2 million (11.4–15.2 million) for ages 5 to 17. There are various opinions on how best to measure the prevalence of child labour. In this study, we use the International Labour Organization (ILO)‘s methodology to define hazardousness and combine it with the most recent United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)‘s time thresholds for economic work and household chores. The specific aims of this study are to estimate the prevalence of child labour in the age group 5 to 17 and to suggest a combined-data approach using Bayesian inference to improve the accuracy of the child labour estimation. This study combines the National Sample Survey on Employment and Unemployment 2011/12 and the India Human Development Survey 2011/12 and compares the result with the reported figures for the incidence of child labour from the Indian Census. Our unique combined-data approach provides a way to improve accuracy, smooth the variations between ages and provide reliable estimates of the scale of child labour in India.

Urban tree cover provides benefits to human health and well-being, but previous studies suggest that tree cover is often inequitably distributed. Here, we use National Agriculture Imagery Program digital ortho photographs to survey the tree cover inequality for Census blocks in US large urbanized areas, home to 167 million people across 5,723 municipalities and other Census-designated places. We compared tree cover to summer land surface temperature, as measured using Landsat imagery. In 92% of the urbanized areas surveyed, low-income blocks have less tree cover than high-income blocks. On average, low-income blocks have 15.2% less tree cover and are 1.5⁰C hotter than high-income blocks. The greatest difference between low- and high-income blocks was found in urbanized areas in the Northeast of the United States, where low-income blocks in some urbanized areas have 30% less tree cover and are 4.0⁰C hotter. Even after controlling for population density and built-up intensity, the positive association between income and tree cover is significant, as is the positive association between proportion non-Hispanic white and tree cover. We estimate, after controlling for population density, that low-income blocks have 62 million fewer trees than high-income blocks, equal to a compensatory value of $56 billion ($1,349/person). An investment in tree planting and natural regeneration of $17.6 billion would be needed to close the tree cover disparity, benefitting 42 million people in low-income blocks.

Résumé :
A gene-based approach was used to annotate 322 168 cattle expressed sequence tags (ESTs) based on human genes in order to census the transcriptomes, analyze their expression similarities, and identify genes preferentially expressed in different bovine tissues and (or) organs. Of the 34 157 human coding genes used in a standalone BLAST search, 14 928 could be matched with provisional orthologous sequences in a total of 230 135 bovine ESTs. The remaining 92 033 bovine ESTs were estimated to represent an additional 5970 genes in cattle. On average, ~8600 genes were estimated to be expressed in a single tissue and (or) organ and 13 000 in a pooled tissue library. On the basis of the estimated numbers of genes, no more than 3% of genes would be missed when ~34 000 ESTs were sequenced from a single tissue and (or) organ library and ~40 000 ESTs from a pooled source, respectively. Cluster analyses of the gene expression patterns among 12 single tissues and (or) organs in cattle revealed that their expression similarities would depend on physiological functions. In addition, a total of 1502 genes were identified as preferentially expressed genes in these 12 single tissues and (or) organs with LOD (logarithm of the odds, base 10) ≥ 3.0. Therefore, our study provides some insights for further investigating the developmental and functional relations of various tissues and organs in mammals.Key words: cattle, expressed sequence tags (ESTs), orthologous genes, comparative gene-based approach, in silico census, tissue/organs, transcriptomes.

Résumé :
Abstract We report the first spatially resolved measurements of gas-phase metallicity radial gradients in star-forming galaxies in overdense environments at z ≳ 2. The spectroscopic data are acquired by the MAMMOTH-Grism survey, a Hubble Space Telescope (HST) cycle 28 medium program. This program is obtaining 45 orbits of WFC3/IR grism spectroscopy in the density peak regions of three massive galaxy protoclusters (BOSS 1244, BOSS 1542, and BOSS 1441) at z = 2–3. Our sample in the BOSS 1244 field consists of 20 galaxies with stellar mass ranging from 109.0 to 1010.3 M ⊙, star formation rate (SFR) from 10 to 240 M ⊙ yr−1, and global gas-phase metallicity ( 12 + log ( O / H ) ) from 8.2 to 8.6. At 1σ confidence level, 2/20 galaxies in our sample show positive (inverted) gradients—the relative abundance of oxygen increasing with galactocentric radius, opposite the usual trend. Furthermore, 1/20 shows negative gradients, and 17/20 are consistent with flat gradients. This high fraction of flat/inverted gradients is uncommon in simulations and previous observations conducted in blank fields at similar redshifts. To understand this, we investigate the correlations among various observed properties of our sample galaxies. We find an anticorrelation between metallicity gradient and global metallicity of our galaxies residing in extreme overdensities, and a marked deficiency of metallicity in our massive galaxies as compared to their coeval field counterparts. We conclude that the cold-mode gas accretion plays an active role in shaping the chemical evolution of galaxies in the protocluster environments, diluting their central chemical abundance, and flattening/inverting their metallicity gradients.

Muskrat, Ondatra zibethicus (L. 1766), is an introduced species to European fauna. It is widespread in Poland, however signs of it decline were observed in last decades. While most of information on muskrat is based on questionnaires and bag record, in this paper results of field census for muskrat signs (tracks and feaces) at total of 1554 sites are presented. Signs of muskrats were present at 19,5% of 1111 sites surveyed from 1996-1998, and at 5,3% of 413 sites surveyed in 2007, Muskrats inhabited mostly small and medium rivers in western part of the study area. Decrease in occurrence of the species over a study period is best document by significant reduction in frequency of muskrat records at the 249 sites surveyed in 1996-1998 (present at 44% sites) and 2007 (7%). The decline of the muskrat population is most probably the effect of increasing predation by American mink Neovison vison.

Résumé :
Abstract Somatic mutations accumulate in cells throughout their life. Most of them do not bring any negative effect. However, certain mutations change protein behaviour, structure, or level of expression. More importantly, some mutations are known to initiate and drive oncogenic transformation. These mutations often make good therapeutic targets but recognising this small subset in a cancer sample is a major challenge. The average cancer cell carries a life-long baggage of somatic mutations, and the mutational process is sped up in these cells through genomic instability (one of the hallmarks of cancer). As a result, there are hundreds of thousands of variants of unknown significance identified through sequencing of cancer DNA. COSMIC Cancer Mutation Census (CMC) answers this challenge by identifying coding mutations with a potential to drive cancer. This is achieved by combining manually curated information regarding cancer genes and genetic variants with data on variant frequencies in cancer and non-cancer populations, and algorithmic evaluation of variant significance. It applies a simple and transparent set of rules to the whole set of coding mutations in COSMIC to identify variants with the highest potential of clinical relevance. In current version (v95, November 2021) the CMC describes 4.7 million somatic variants and segregates them into four tiers. Tier 1 is the highest confidence set. This set includes 1558 mutations that are found in Cancer Gene Census genes and are also described as pathogenic in cancer by ClinVar. Tiers 2 and 3 contain variants with less extensive evidence of involvement in carcinogenesis. The dN/dS algorithm is used to include variants that are under positive selection in cancer cells. Finally, mutations without evidence for driving cancer are classified as Tier 4. In addition to this classification, CMC integrates and presents the information used to prioritise variants, including their frequencies in various cancer types (COSMIC), germline frequencies (gnomAD), ClinVar annotations, dN/dS analysis results, and nucleotide and amino acid conservation. Data can be accessed and scrutinised through a dedicated website at https://cancer.sanger.ac.uk/cmc. Résumé :
1525 Background: The trials of bispecific antibodies to treat diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) have increased exponentially. However, there is a geographic limitation to offering these trials and universal access appears to be limited. Here, we investigate the geographical and racial disparities in accessing bispecific antibodies trials for DLBCL. Methods: We searched ClinicalTrials.gov using the terms for DLBCL and bispecific antibodies. A total of 13 out of 51 clinical trials with one or more open sites in the United States (US) were included in this systematic review. 2020 US Census Bureau data was used to obtain data on race and ethnicity. Analysis for this study was performed using SPSS version 26. Results: The majority of the included trials were Phase I (62%) followed by Phase II (23%), and Phase I/II (15%). A total of 885 participants were either enrolled or expected to enroll in these clinical trials. Nine (69%) clinical trials were only open in the US while 4 (31%) clinical trials were open in the US and other countries. The majority of the trials were funded by the pharmaceutical industry 62%. There were 50 unique study sites distributed over 24 states with a 2.4 (1-10) mean number of trials per state and 9.9 (1-39) mean number of sites per trial. Study sites were distributed in 24 different states. Midwestern states had the highest number of trials 28%, followed by Southern 26%, Northeastern 24%, and Western 22%. The highest number of study locations (10) and the highest number of open studies (10) were in California. Twenty-seven states had no open bispecific antibodies trials including three in the Northeast (Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont), five in the Midwest (Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, North and South Dakota), eight in the South (Delaware, Virginia, District of Columbia, West Virginia, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma), and eleven in the West (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Montana, Nevada, Wyoming, Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington). Using US Census Bureau data, only 20% of African Americans (AA) (8 349 699 of 41 104 200) lived in a county with a bispecific antibodies trial. There were only five states (21%) with 50% or more of the AA population living in a county with an open bispecific antibodies trial and seven states (29%) with 30-49.9% of their AA county residents. Five states (21%) had less than 10% of the AA population living in a county with an open bispecific antibodies trial. Nine (90%) out of ten states with the highest proportion of AA residents (18.6%-41.4%) have no (five states) or only one clinical trial site (four states). Conclusions: There is significant geographic and racial disparity in accessing bispecific antibodies trials for DLBCL. Strategies should be framed to address the causes of the observed disparities and to improve access to these trials.

Résumé :
Abstract Background Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major cause of hospitalizations in young children. We estimated the burden of community-onset RSV-associated hospitalizations among US children aged <2 years by extrapolating rates of RSV-confirmed hospitalizations in 4 surveillance states and using probabilistic multipliers to adjust for ascertainment biases. Methods From October 2014 through April 2015, clinician-ordered RSV tests identified laboratory-confirmed RSV hospitalizations among children aged <2 years at 4 influenza hospitalization surveillance network sites. Surveillance populations were used to estimate age-specific rates of RSV-associated hospitalization, after adjusting for detection probabilities. We extrapolated these rates using US census data. Results We identified 1554 RSV-associated hospitalizations in children aged <2 years. Of these, 27% were admitted to an intensive care unit, 6% needed mechanical ventilation, and 5 died. Most cases (1047/1554; 67%) had no underlying condition. Adjusted age-specific RSV hospitalization rates per 100 000 population were 1970 (95% confidence interval [CI],1787 to 2177), 897 (95% CI, 761 to 1073), 531 (95% CI, 459 to 624), and 358 (95% CI, 317 to 405) for ages 0–2, 3–5, 6–11, and 12–23 months, respectively. Extrapolating to the US population, an estimated 49 509–59 867 community-onset RSV-associated hospitalizations among children aged <2 years occurred during the 2014–2015 season. Conclusions Our findings highlight the importance of RSV as a cause of hospitalization, especially among children aged <2 months. Our approach to estimating RSV-related hospitalizations could be used to provide a US baseline for assessing the impact of future interventions.

Résumé :
Ecological biodiversity is declining at an unprecedented rate. To combat such irreversible changes in natural ecosystems, biodiversity conservation initiatives are being conducted globally. However, the lack of a feasible methodology to quantify biodiversity in real-time and investigate population dynamics in spatiotemporal scales prevents the use of ecological data in environmental planning. Traditionally, ecological studies rely on the census of an animal population by the “capture, mark and recapture” technique. In this technique, human field workers manually count, tag and observe tagged individuals, making it time-consuming, expensive, and cumbersome to patrol the entire area. Recent research has also demonstrated the potential for inexpensive and accessible sensors for ecological data monitoring. However, stationary sensors collect localised data which is highly specific on the placement of the setup. In this research, we propose the methodology for biodiversity monitoring utilising state-of-the-art deep learning (DL) methods operating in real-time on sample payloads of mobile robots. Such trained DL algorithms demonstrate a mean average precision (mAP) of 90.51% in an average inference time of 67.62 milliseconds within 6,000 training epochs. We claim that the use of such mobile platform setups inferring real-time ecological data can help us achieve our goal of quick and effective biodiversity surveys. An experimental test payload is fabricated, and online as well as offline field surveys are conducted, validating the proposed methodology for species identification that can be further extended to geo-localisation of flora and fauna in any ecosystem.
