Résumé :
Currently, many community detection methods are proposed in the network science field. However, most contemporary methods only employ modularity to detect communities, which may not be adequate to represent the real community structure of networks for its resolution limit problem. In order to resolve this problem, we put forward a new community detection approach based on a differential evolution algorithm (CDDEA), taking into account modularity density as an optimized function. In the CDDEA, a new tuning parameter is used to recognize different communities. The experimental results on synthetic and real-world networks show that the proposed algorithm provides an effective method in discovering community structure in complex networks.

Résumé :
Purpose: The study aimed to objectively assess the level of inclusiveness of buildings in selected Universities on the basis of international protocols and local legislation that require that buildings should be made accessible to persons with disabilities.Method: A building inclusiveness model, the Composite Disability Design Inclusiveness Score (CDDIS), was used to assess the levels of inclusiveness of 110 buildings in 6 purposively selected Universities in Ghana, using maximal variation sampling. Results: It was found that the buildings of the sampled Universities were not inclusive to a large extent. With one exception, there were variations in the levels of inclusiveness of the buildings in each institution. Conclusions: Irrespective of international protocols and local legislation, the built environments in Universities are not as accessible as they ought to be.Limitation: The CDDIS is a simple quantitative means of assessing the inclusiveness of buildings and allows for objective comparisons. However, it is expected that for purposes of comparison, identical buildings should be used. Any intended use of the CDDIS will require the use of a checklist that is appropriately designed to meet the peculiarities of the particular study.Implications: There is the need for expedited effort to ensure inclusiveness in University built environments. This will help greatly towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Résumé :
Background. The risk of Cushing’s disease (CD) recurring may persist for years, even after initially successful surgery.Objective. To prospectively assess the relevance of a combined dexamethasone desmopressin test (CDDT) as a component of postoperative hormonal evaluation, including the dynamics of ACTH and cortisol concentrations.Material and Methods. We included 28 patients after TSS for CD. Eighteen months after surgery the standard hormonal evaluation was performed, followed by a CDDT.Results. Fifteen patients (53.6%) were in remission whereas in 13 subjects (46.4%) hypercortisolemia was confirmed. Positive results of CDDT were observed in 12 noncured patients (92.3%) and in one subject in remission (6.7%). Negative results were obtained in 12 patients with remission (80%) and in one noncured patient (7.7%). With 2 patients in CD remission (13.3%) the test results were inconclusive. We confirmed a high compatibility between CDDT and standard hormonal assessment results (κ=0.846;P<0.001). Significant differences in ACTH and cortisol levels at each CDDT time point between the two studied subgroups were shown.Conclusions. A negative CDDT result can be regarded as one of the factors indicative of CD remission during follow-up. Additionally, CDDT can help distinguish persistent hypercortisolemia from naturally recurring adrenal function after TSS.

Résumé :
Compressed sensing (CS) has been applied to accelerate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for many years. Due to the lack of translation invariance of the wavelet basis, undersampled MRI reconstruction based on discrete wavelet transform may result in serious artifacts. In this paper, we propose a CS-based reconstruction scheme, which combines complex double-density dual-tree discrete wavelet transform (CDDDT-DWT) with fast iterative shrinkage/soft thresholding algorithm (FISTA) to efficiently reduce such visual artifacts. The CDDDT-DWT has the characteristics of shift invariance, high degree, and a good directional selectivity. In addition, FISTA has an excellent convergence rate, and the design of FISTA is simple. Compared with conventional CS-based reconstruction methods, the experimental results demonstrate that this novel approach achieves higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), larger signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), better structural similarity index (SSIM), and lower relative error.

Résumé :
A new CMOS realization of the current differencing differential input transconductance amplifier (CD-DITA) and CD-DITA based voltage mode MISO-type universal biquad filter are proposed. CD-DITA is an extension of CDTA having extra voltage input than CDTA increasing its usability of differential inputs. For a suitable CMOS based implementation of CD-DITA, several CDTA realizations are studied and the suitable one is modified to implement the proposed CD-DITA block. A FVF based DO-CDTA is characterized and its applications in analog signal processing circuits such as basic amplifiers, signal generators such as Schmitt Trigger and KHN filter are also studied. The proposed CD-DITA based voltage mode MISOtype universal biquad filter is realized with two resistors and two capacitors with independent electronic control of natural frequency and quality factor. The proposed filter can implement all five second order low pass, high pass, band pass, band stop, and all pass filter responses without altering the circuit topology. The proposed filter also offers low active and passive sensitivities. In addition, the effects of parasitics and errors on the proposed filter are also investigated. The characteristics CDTA and its applications are verified by PSPICE simulations using TSMC 0.25μm CMOS technology. The characteristics of CD-DITA and validity of proposed universal biquad filter is verified by SPICE simulation using TSMC 180nm technology.

Content addressable memory (CAM) is a major device in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), communication networks, LAN bridges/switches , databases, lookup table , and tag directories in fully associative cache systems, due to its high-speed parallel data searching operation. Hence, the operation of CAM requires an enormous number of comparison operations. Obviously, these comparison operations consumes a large amount of power. In this paper, we propose a Gate-Block-Selection algorithm to construct a low power PB-CAM to reduce the comparison operation number. By our theoretical analysis, we can reduce 19.0 % at least, 26.6 % at most. the total number of the comparison operation of our Gate-Block-Selection algorithm is much less than that of the Block-XOR approach. Moreover, we implemented both the Block-XOR PBCAM and our Gate-Block-Selection PB-CAM in the TSMC 0.18-μm digital CMOS process technology and measure the power consumption by Nanosim. Compared to Block-XOR approach, the experimental result shows that our Gate-Block-Selection PB-CAM comsumes 3.1% at least and 13.3% at most less power than Block-XOR does. The major contribution of our paper is that we provided theoretical and practical proof to verify that our gate-block-selection approach can further reduce the power consumption to fit different benchmark. Therefore, our Gate-Block-Selection PBCAM is very suitable for embedded systems.

Résumé :
In the present dissertation implementation of new active building block Current differencing differential output buffer amplifier (CDDOBA) using IC AD844 has been presented. CDDOBA is a new active building block with two input p and n terminal and two output, +w and -w terminal. CDDOBA can be well thought-out as a collection of inverting and non inverting current mode and inverting and non inverting voltage mode unity-gain cells. Recent advancements in current mode signal processing and advantages of current mode signal processing over voltage mode are briefly described in the second chapter. In this dissertation detailed description of the architecture of CDDOBA and PSPICE simulation of CDDOBA realized with IC AD844 is presented. General first order filters, voltage mode amplifier and differentiator and integrator circuits have been presented as application examples in order to demonstrate the performance of the CDDOBA. The PSPICE simulation results for frequency response are incorporated to verify the theory. A new Biquad filter, employing one CDDOBA as active element and four resistors and four capacitors is proposed.

An appropriate codebook is required in both encoding and decoding stages for image compression using VQ (Vector Quantization). Numerous VQ schemes have been proposed in recent decades, subsequently attracting strong attentions. The LBG algorithm for training codebook is widely employed in VQ, mainly for its simplicity. The SOM is a powerful unsupervised learning approach for visualizing high dimensional object in low dimensional space and also widely utilized in VQ. However, the time cost of those methods is usually high, partially because of needing more time for iterative converges. In this thesis, a new codebook design algorithm based on DCT-VQ (Discrete Cosine Transform Vector Quantization) termed CDDI for image compression is proposed, which provides an iterative procedure with so-called “Splitting Clustering” technique in frequency domain to improve the quality of codebook. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has delivered better performance than several existing well-known approaches like Random LBG, Splitting LBG and SOM.

Smyers, Serena Ashley. « An assessment of the GPS L5 signal based on multiple vendor receivers ». Thesis, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/2152/ETD-UT-2011-12-4921.

Résumé :
The L5 signal of the Global Positioning System (GPS) is becoming available on an increasing number of Block IIF satellites. As the third civilian signal, L5 is superior in signal design to the L1 C/A and L2C civilian signals. This new signal has been marked healthy for use on selected satellites since 2010, yet the hardware capable of tracking the L5 signal is still in the early stages of development. This work investigates the characteristics of the new signal and the quality of data produced by L5-tracking receivers. Commonly used receiver models chosen for this study are the Leica GRX1200+GNSS, the Trimble NetR8, and the Javad Delta TRE-G3TH. The metrics used in this analysis to assess the quality of data produced by these receivers are signal strength, receiver phase noise, receiver code noise, and multipath. The data used in these analyses were obtained from the International GNSS Service for the days of the year 275 to 281 in 2011. Metrics averaged over the GPS week 1656 provide a good indication of the overall performance of the receivers.
