Abstract The effect of leadership decapitation—the capture or killing of the leader of an armed group—on future violence has been studied with competing conclusions. In Mexico, leadership decapitation has been found to increase violence and in-fighting among drug cartels. However, the causal pathways between leadership decapitation and in-fighting are unclear. In this article, it is hypothesized that leadership decapitation will weaken alliances between armed actors, lead to greater preferential attachment in networks of cartels and militias, and result in greater transitive closure as cartels seek to expand their power. These hypotheses are tested with a stochastic actor oriented model on a network dataset of episodes of infighting among cartels and the militias formed to opposed them between the five years before and after Joaquín, “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera, the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, was arrested in 2016. The results show that alliances have virtually no effect on the decision of cartels and militias to fight each other; weaker organizations faced a higher reputational cost after El Chapo’s detention; and post-arrest cartel in-fighting did not increase as a result of uncertainty about the relative balance of power among cartels.

AbstractOne way of understanding the exile of the Chagos Islanders and their inability to return to their ancestral land is through a reading of the case from a perspective of post-colonial legal scholarship. Chagossians have strong legal rights to land and remedies of compensation and return through a purposive application of the international legal definition of Indigenous, Magna Carta right to abode and international human rights law that could address their dispossession. Yet, the inability of those rights to be meaningfully applied has been constrained because of the post-colonial way they are legally interpreted, creating a legal vacuum in which basic fairness and substantive equality have been routinely compromised. Drawing attention to the continued legal denial of return in the context of decolonisation, ongoing colonialism and the rule of law makes sense of the legal record and explains the expulsion of the islanders despite the moral merits of return.

COVID-19's first wave created chaos for new NICU families as they struggled to cope with the challenge of a fragile infant along with a pandemic. Safety was paramount due to a lack of understanding around how the virus transmits, but much has been learned since then. The next wave of the virus needs to have a rethink around family separation. World leader organization European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (EFCNI) provides insight into the challenges with the first wave and suggests ideas around rethinking how families interact with their baby in the subsequent waves.

AbstractThe article develops a Marxist analysis of one aspect of the current food crisis: the problem around determining what is good to eat. The line that counters posed the problem of hunger to the problem of obesity has vanished, concentrating both on the concept of malnutrition, while increasing information on the properties of food. The article employs the concepts of commodity fetishism and the logic of profit to demonstrate, first, that the so-called food cacophony is the product of commodity mediation. And second, that this chaos around what is good to eat is only the form of expression of the imposition of specifically capitalist food consumption pattern centered on meat and processed food.Key words: Food crisis, capitalism, nutrition.

Abstract: The present article deals with the issue of the religious phenomenon in the early twentieth century, showing its reality and pointing to the paths it should follow in the present day. From its early days, the twentieth century raised questions in the anthropological field because of facts, such as the First World War (1914-1918) that brought changes to the whole of humankind. It also questioned the religious phenomenon because, although it was, in that context, an essentially Christian reality, it had not been able to save the European continent from chaos. Karl Barth, (1886-1968), a German theologian, was one of those who helped to think out the religious issue in this historical period since, in one of his works, Letter to the Romans (1918) besides addressing cultural, political and social aspects, he also focused his attention on religious issues. He presents the human being’s religious manifestation as an essential trait, and with the help of the divine grace, the reestablishment of the order and of the connection between creature and Creator would be possible once more. Martin Heidegger (1889-1976) also contributes towards this analysis. He structures a lecture – Introduction to the Phenomenology of Religion – in which he makes use of the concept of the factual experience of life. Now, all this contributes towards the authenticity of the religious phenomenon and to justify human existence, not least because that phenomenon is an integral part of this existence. Keywords: Religious phenomenon. Résumé :
The purpose of this research was to study the manufacture of milkfish and carrot sausages by treating the proportion of tapioca flour: taro starch and the addition of egg white on physicochemical and organoleptic properties. The use of taro starch is because contains amylose and amylopectin which can bind air more strongly and can make the texture more springy. Carrots are used for coloring sausages because they contain carotenoid compounds. Egg whites are used to increase protein levels. This study used a completely randomized design with two factors, namely the proportion of tapioca flour to taro starch (75:25; 50:50; 25:75) and the addition of egg white (3, 6, 9%). The results showed that the proportion of tapioca flour: taro starch and the addition of egg white had a significant effect on moisture and ash content. However, it did not significantly affect the levels of fat, protein, starch, emulsion stability, and hardness. The best treatment was obtained from the combination of the dimensions of the proportion of tapioca flour: taro starch (25: 75) and the addition of 9% egg white which obtained a moisture content of 72.69%; ash 2.45%; fat 2.31%; protein 12.16%; starch 7.14%; emulsion stability 99.06%; hardness 2.59 kg.m/s2; and hedonic color 3.76 (neutral); fragrance 4.00 (like); taste 4.28 (like); and texture 4.48 (like).

Résumé :
Cessation of circulation during cardiac arrest causes critical end-organ ischemia. Although the neurological consequences of cardiopulmonary arrest can be catastrophic, an aggressive “push fast and push hard” resuscitation technique maintains blood flow until the return of spontaneous circulation. However, reperfusion to the cerebrum leads to cellular chaos and further neurological injury. Use of moderate hypothermia after cardiac arrest mediates these cellular and chemical processes, reducing the impact of the arrest and reperfusion phenomena. A 43-year-old man had 2 asystolic arrests with 20 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation as a result of massive, multiple pulmonary emboli. After the cardiac arrest, the patient was comatose and posturing. The 2005 American Heart Association guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation were used along with moderate hypothermia in an attempt to minimize the neurological consequences of the cardiopulmonary arrest and to optimize the patient’s outcome.

Résumé :
Introduction: While evidence has been established on the impact of medical appointment non-attendance on the healthcare system and patient health, previous research has not focused on how poverty and rurality may influence patient experiences with non-attendance. This paper explores patient perceptions of non-attendance among those experiencing poverty in a rural U.S county to better inform providers to the context in which their patients make attendance-related decisions. Methods: Using a grounded theory approach, we conducted semi-structured interviews with 32 U.S. low-income adults in the rural Western U.S. who recurrently missed primary care appointments. We also used a questionnaire to assess individual characteristics related to health, resiliency, personal mastery, medical mistrust, life chaos, and adverse childhood experiences. Results: Participants identified 3 barriers to attending appointments: appointment disinterest, competing demands, and insufficient systems. Appointment disinterest stemmed from physical and mental health issues, misalignment between needs and treatment, and comfort with the provider. Competing demands included family responsibilities, employment, and relationships. Finally, participants reported that current scheduling and transportation systems were helpful but insufficient. To provide further context, participants also reported low overall health, moderate levels of medical mistrust, life chaos, and mastery, moderate to low resilience, and very a high number of adverse childhood experiences. Conclusions: Results point to the need for modified structures that allow low-income patients more control over their personal health and highlight opportunities for clinics to address patients’ lack of interest and fear in the medical encounter.

PubMed/MEDLINE (1966–November 2014) was searched to identify relevant published studies on the overall frequency, types, and examples of medication errors during medical emergencies involving cardiopulmonary resuscitation and related situations, and the breakdown by type of error. The overall frequency of medication errors during medical emergencies, specifically situations related to resuscitation, is highly variable. Medication errors during such emergencies, particularly cardiopulmonary resuscitation and surrounding events, are not well characterized in the literature but may be more frequent than previously thought. Depending on whether research methods included database mining, simulation, or prospective observation of clinical practice, reported occurrence of medication errors during cardiopulmonary resuscitation and surrounding events has ranged from less than 1% to 50%. Because of the chaos of the resuscitation environment, errors in prescribing, dosing, preparing, labeling, and administering drugs are prone to occur. System-based strategies, such as infusion pump policies and code cart management, as well as personal strategies exist to minimize medication errors during emergency situations.

Résumé :
The combustion and carbon dioxide gasification behavior of lignite/corn cobs mixtures through thermal analysis experiments was investigated. A simple and accurate model was developed to provide and compare the kinetics of these processes. The characteristic parameters of combustion and gasification, such as decomposition temperature, reaction rate and reactivity, were correlated to the pore structure of the fuels, the composition of ash and mutual interactions between blend components. Combustion of fuels studied occurred in two distinct stages. The reactivity of corn cobs was much higher. When this material was blended with the lignite it improved its combustion efficiency and the mixture presented an additive behavior. The gasification process of chars took place between 750 °C and 950 °C. Corn cobs char exhibited a higher rate. The percentage of this material in the blend was quite low to influence the reactivity of the lignite. The independent parallel reactions model fitted the experimental results with a good accuracy. Activation energy values of combustion varied between 65 kJ/mol and 261 kJ/mol, while those of gasification were enhanced 136-395 kJ/mol, due to the higher thermal stability of chars. The similar thermochemical behavior of the fuels could be advantageous for their co-processing in existing lignite plants, offering economic and environmental benefits.

Résumé :
The development of human rights and freedoms is an indispensable component of modern society. The world is built on the observance of certain rights, because if they are not observed, chaos will begin. In 2022, we can clearly see what a country's non-compliance with its rights and violation of someone else's territorial integrity leads to. The "neighbor" country brings chaos to the whole world, destroying everything and everyone in its path. But the civilized world will certainly stop pro-science and he will bear responsibility for all crimes. Mentality is formed by the human community through cultural development. This formation becomes the foundation, the basis of the legal capabilities of a person in a specific region. That is, the legal capabilities of a person in each region can have its criteria, the organicity, naturalness of human characteristics in the form of their rights is changed in connection with nature. Society provides nature spontaneously, and the state actively. It is difficult to imagine the modern world without human rights. Today, this is a very relevant topic. After all, one of the most important signs of a democratic society is the free and effective exercise of one's rights. It is thanks to the development of law that the country develops. Human rights are closely related to the development of the state. After all, they are the so-called original legal yardstick for all processes taking place in the state. Human rights are in constant development, and therefore reflect certain changes in social relations, the growth of legal awareness of citizens, which is quite noticeable when considering rights according to historical periodization. We classify human rights as follows, namely: a) natural human rights (these are the rights that are granted to a person from birth, given by God and accompany a person until death); b) physical human rights (these are the rights that satisfy material, spiritual and other human needs); c) personal human rights (these are the rights that protect the rights, freedoms and interests of citizens). If we talk about rights in Ukraine, we can say that certain changes are needed regarding people's rights. After all, too much in our country is built on material values. People have forgotten that they are, first of all, people and should give priority to moral values and help each other.
