New detections of CCH have been made toward nine planetary nebulae (PNe), including K4-47, K3-58, K3-17, M3-28, and M4-14. Measurements of the N = 1 -> 0 and N = 3 -> 2 transitions of this radical near 87 and 262 GHz were carried out using the new 12 m and the Sub-Millimeter Telescope (SMT) of the Arizona Radio Observatory (ARO). The presence of fine and/or hyperfine structure in the spectra aided in the identification. CCH was not observed in two PNe which are sources of C-60. The planetary nebulae with positive detections represent a wide range of ages and morphologies, and all had previously been observed in HCN and HNC. Column densities for CCH in the PNe, determined from radiative transfer modeling, were N-tot(CCH) similar to 0.2-3.3 x 10(15) cm(-2), corresponding to fractional abundances with respect to H-2 of f similar to 0.2-47 x 10(-7). The abundance of CCH was found to not vary significantly with kinematic age across a time span of similar to 10,000 years, in contrast to predictions of chemical models. CCH appears to be a fairly common constituent of PNe that are carbon-rich, and its distribution may anti-correlate with that of C-60. These results suggest that CCH may be a product of C-60 photodestruction, which is known to create C-2 units. The molecule may subsequently survive the PN stage and populate diffuse clouds. The distinct, double-horned line profiles for CCH observed in K3-45 and M3-28 indicate the possible presence of a bipolar flow oriented at least partially toward the line of sight.

Durante o tempo em serviço, estruturas e componentes de equipamentos podem falhar e causar acidentes. Isto geralmente conduz a danos materiais podendo, ainda, causar perda de vidas humanas e danos ambientais. Frequentemente, os eventos danosos são originários de falhas de materiais e de fabricação, sobrecargas não previstas ou outros problemas oriundos do tempo de operação ou deficiência de manutenção de um componente. Neste estudo, com base numa análise de propagação de trinca superficial submetida a carregamento, se avaliou a integridade de um flange da conexão de topo de uma linha flexível, sob condições criogênicas de operação. Quando em serviço, a falha deste conector pode ocasionar interrupções na produção, dano a equipamentos e meio ambiente, bem como fatalidades em plataformas offshore de petróleo. As linhas (dutos) flexíveis utilizadas para injetar gás CO2 nos reservatórios de petróleo no país trabalham submetidas a elevadas pressões internas (da ordem de 10.000 psi), o que aumenta o risco de falha do componente. Além disto, a selagem da conexão flangeada pode falhar e provocar um vazamento de fluido gasoso, proporcionando uma queda acentuada da temperatura local e potencializando a fratura frágil do componente. O cenário proposto para o estudo foi relacionado a possível falha na vedação do anel BX, localizado entre a conexão da linha flexível e a plataforma de petróleo. A metodologia foi dividida em duas etapas: a primeira corresponde à análise global linear elástica do conector na ausência de trincas e baseada no método de elementos finitos (MEF). Na segunda etapa da análise, se introduziu uma trinca no conector na região com os maiores níveis de tensão e onde é possível realizar ensaio por líquido penetrante. Assim, o estudo se concentrou na conexão flangeada do conector, adotando como um aço com 9 por cento de níquel em sua composição química, liga ferrosa de larga aplicação em tanques de armazenagem de GNL. Se buscou avaliar a resistência à fratura do material através da associação de condições severas de carregamento, baixas temperaturas e tamanho de trinca em flanges de dutos flexíveis, conforme critério severizado da norma API 6A. Desta maneira, se espera contribuir para que a indústria offshore de petróleo tenha mais uma opção de material para ser adotado na fabricação de conectores de topo das linhas flexíveis que trabalhem em condição criogênica.
During the time in service, structures and equipment components can fail and cause accidents. This usually leads to damage and may also cause loss of human lives and environmental damages. Often, harmful events are originated from materials and manufacturing faults, unforeseen overloads or other problems arising from the operation time or component maintenance deficiencies. In this study, based on the analysis of surface crack propagation under loading, was assessed the integrity of a top connecting flange of a flexible line operation under cryogenic conditions. When in service, the failure of this connector may cause production disruptions, damages to the equipment and the environment, as well as human fatalities on offshore oil platforms. In Brazil, flexibles lines (ducts) used to inject CO2 gas in oil reservoirs work subjected to high internal pressures (of the order of 10,000 psi), which increases the risk of a component failure. Moreover, the damaged flange may cause leakage of gaseous fluid resulting in very low local temperatures and resulting in brittle fracture enhancing of the component. The scenario proposed in this study is related to a possible seal BX ring failure which is located between the flexible line connection and the oil platform. The methodology was divided into two stages: the first corresponds to the linear elastic global analysis of the connector in the absence of cracks and based on the finite element method (FEM). In the second stage of analysis, it introduced a crack on the connector in the region with the highest stress levels and where it is possible to test for penetrant. Thus, the study focused on the flange connection connector, adopting as a steel with 9 per cent nickel in its chemical composition, ferrous alloy wide application in LNG storage tanks. He sought to evaluate the fracture resistance of the material through the combination of severe loading conditions, low temperatures and 9 cracks in flanges of flexible ducts as severe criteria standard API 6A standard. Thus, it is expected to contribute to the offshore oil industry has one more material option to be adopted in the manufacture of top connectors of the flexible lines working in cryogenic condition.

Résumé :
We introduce a special set of relations on a finite set, called clausal relations. A restricted version of the Galois connection between polymorphisms and invariants, called Pol-CInv, is studied, where the invariant relations are clausal relations. Clones arising from this Galois connection, so-called C-clones, are investigated. Finally, we show that clausal relations meet a sufficient condition that is known to ensure polynomial time solvability of the corresponding CSP.

Among the available all-quadrilateral mesh generation algorithms progressive-front offers the best quality and robustness. The paving algorithm is a progressive-front technique that generates a two dimensional mesh of all quadrilaterals on planar surfaces. The technique is particularly suited to meshing irregular boundaries with interior holes. This thesis presents an extension of the paving algorithm to generalized three dimensional surfaces. The major problems in three-dimensional surface mesh generation are projection of nodes, calculation of interior angles, and connection of mesh fronts. The solutions to these problems are presented. This work is part of the ongoing CUBIT project at Sandia Labs. The application is written in object oriented style in C++. A description of object oriented programming is given, with the relative merits and drawbacks for engineering applications.

This MSc Thesis is focused on the multimodeling area, especially on the cooperation of the C++ language and the Prolog language. The recent research is established on my semester study, which also dealt with the multimodeling area. During this research a prototype of interconnection library for cooperation of above mentioned programming languages was developed. This prototype of the library was finished within the scope of this thesis and some case-studies were created, too, using also another simulation library - SIMLIB/C++. These case-studies have their focus in the problems of artificial intelligence. The main benefit of this thesis is the confrontation of methods with and without using artificial intelligence.

Traditionally, connection management applications (referred to as patchbays) for high-speed audio networking, are predominantly developed using third-generation languages such as C, C# and C++. Due to the rapid increase in distributed audio/video network usage in the world today, connection management applications that control signal routing over these networks have also evolved in complexity to accommodate more functionality. As the result, high-speed audio networking application developers require a tool that will enable them to develop complex connection management applications easily and within the shortest possible time. In addition, this tool should provide them with the reliability and flexibility required to develop applications controlling signal routing in networks carrying real-time data. High-speed audio networks are used for various purposes that include audio/video production and broadcasting. This investigation evaluates the possibility of using Adobe Flash Professional 8, using ActionScript 2.0, for developing connection management applications. Three patchbays, namely the Broadcast patchbay, the Project studio patchbay, and the Hospitality/Convention Centre patchbay were developed and tested for connection management in three sound installation networks, namely the Broadcast network, the Project studio network, and the Hospitality/Convention Centre network. Findings indicate that complex connection management applications can effectively be implemented using the Adobe Flash IDE and ActionScript 2.0.

The demand for computers is oriented toward faster computers and newer computers are being built with more than one CPU. These computers require sophisticated software to program them. One such approach to program the multiple CPU machines is through the use of object-oriented programming techniques. An example of such an approach is the use of C* on the Connection Machine. Though C* supports many of the object-oriented concepts, it does not support the concept of software reuse through inheritance. This thesis introduces a new language called C*±+ , an extension of C* language to support inheritance. We also discuss the issues invloved in the implementation of multiple inheritance in programming languages. This thesis describes the differences between C** and C* . It also discusses the various issues involved in the design and implementation of the translator from C** to C* . It also illustrates the advantages of programming in C*++ through an example. Since C*++ is designed to support software reuse which allows the users to create quality software in shorter time, it is anticipated that C*+ will have widespread use in programming the Connection Machine.

The collection of books assembled for Leofric, bishop of Exeter, during the twenty-two years of his episcopacy has been the subject of sustained scholarly attention, which has just started to uncover the importance that scriptorial materials have in illuminating the life and deeds of the bishop. Due to the lack of a hagiography dedicated to him, Leofric's importance in the eleventh century church has long remained obscure. The following thesis endeavours to shed new light on the activities that underpinned Leofric's episcopacy through an investigation into the books compiled at the bishop's behest. In particular, four homiliaries are here under scrutiny from a perspective that is both physical and textual: these manuscripts contain a selection of texts that Leofric requested specifically for performing his pastoral remit and that, for this reason, represent the bishop's interests. The analysis of some of these texts demonstrates that, when studied in their manuscript context, homilies yield crucial information on the way in which preaching materials were used and on the audiences to whom they were directed in times subsequent to their composition. The way in which Leofric exploited homiletic works dating to the late tenth century was innovative and original in so far as it reflected the administration policies that he adopted for his diocese and the reforms that he activated in restructuring a decaying episcopal see. His pastoral achievements were not only important in the context of the eleventh-century English episcopate but also in a broader, continental perspective and were attained as part of a reforming programme that would later culminate in the Gregorian Reform. Leofric's Lotharingian education triggered the activation of these reforms at Exeter at a time when Lotharingian prelates held prominent positions in the western Christendom.

The eighteenth century was the golden age of silk weaving in London. This thesis shows that the expansion and success of the silk industry was dependent upon connections with other regions around the world. Supplies of raw materials and labour came into London from Europe, the Levant and India. London silk weavers faced competition from silk fabrics produced overseas. The capital also sent its silk out into the world where it found a ready market in North America and the West Indies. These connections are mapped and compared to those produced for other global luxury commodities. A different picture of early globalisation emerges here, in terms of geography and chronology. Europe and the Mediterranean were as important as the North Atlantic and South Asia. Both imperial and non-imperial connections were important, whilst state and market activities reinforced each other. Far from being a gradual long-term process, early globalisation was disruptive and required management. Finally, labour is given far more prominence than is usual. Skilled workers were as mobile and dynamic as the flows of exotic commodities. They also played an important role in constructing the regulatory framework that oversaw the globalisation of London silk.

The goal of this thesis is to study non-singlet sectors of the c=1 matrix model in order to determine their connection with string theory in two space-time dimensions. It is well understood that the singlet sector of this matrix model is related to the closed string sector of the string theory. The adjoint sector has been connected to long strings stretching from an FZZT brane at infinity. The goal is to find a sector which includes a large number of these long strings which condense to form an FZZT brane in line with a proposal due to Gaiotto. Sectors corresponding to symmetric and antisymmetric tensor products of the fundamental and antifundamental representation of the U(N) symmetry of the matrix model are studied. Partition functions of the matrix model with a harmonic oscillator potential as well as bases for the Hilbert spaces are found for all these sectors. The first two representations are studied using a collective field approach with the inverted oscillator potential applicable to the c=1 model and are found to contain large numbers of long strings which form a free bosonic gas in the large N limit and so do not condense. On the other hand, in the third sector the degrees of freedom are fermionic and a shift in the ground state energy is found in the harmonic oscillator potential, which points to the existence of a Fermi sea and the condensation of the long strings. A collective field that can be used to study this sector is proposed and the technical difficulties presented by the study of this sector are discussed, but its study is left for future work.

Le système nerveux est un réseau complexe qui détecte et analyse les informations. Ces informations sont transmises entre cellules grâce à des connections synaptiques et des jonctions communicantes. Ce réseau n’est pas statique et évolue au cours du développement, de l’apprentissage mais aussi durant le processus de vieillissement – naturels ou pathologiques. Comprendre le système nerveux et son fonctionnement requiert une analyse des connections synaptiques in vivo chez un animal model tel que Caenorhabditis elegans. Cependant les techniques actuellement disponibles pour C. elegans sont laborieuses, ne dépendent pas forcément d’une interaction trans-synaptique ou fixent la synapse. Par conséquent, ces approches ne permettent pas de réaliser des études de populations et dynamiques des modifications synaptiques. Dans ce manuscrit, je décris tout d’abord une nouvelle technique pour visualiser les synapses in vivo chez le vers C. elegans. Cette technique appelé iBLINC (in vivo Biotin Labeling of INtercellular Contacts) qui consiste en la biotinylation d’un peptide par une ligase d’Escherichia coli, BirA. Ces deux molécules sont fusionnées à des protéines trans-membranaires qui forment un complexe à la synapse. La biotinylation est détectée grâce à une streptavidin monomérique taguée avec un fluorophore qui est secrétée dans l’espace extracellulaire. J’ai démontré que cette technique est directionnelle et dynamique. En utilisant iBLINC pour visualiser des synapses faisant partie du circuit sensoriel de C. elegans, une évolution du nombre et de la taille des synapses a pu être observée avec l’âge. Il semblerait que ce changement soit dépendant du segment de la zone synaptique observée. Ces résultats ont été corroborés par l’observation d’une diminution du nombre de vésicules pendant le vieillissement grâce à un marqueur pré-synaptique des synapses GABAergique de la jonction neuromusculaire. Pour conclure, ce manuscrit décrit une nouvelle technique permettant d’observer les synapses chez le vers vivant et démontre une évolution naturelle du nombre de synapses et du nombre de vésicules pré-synaptiques avec l’âge
The nervous system is a complex network that senses and processes information and is essential for the survival of both vertebrates and invertebrates as it is involved in behavior responses. Information within the network is transmitted through specialized cell-cell contacts, including synaptic connections. Importantly, the network is not static and is believed to change during development and learning, as well as during pathological or normal age-related decline. Studying the nervous system in vivo requires the use of animal models such as Caenorhabditis elegans. Understanding of behavior and development requires visualization and analysis of synaptic connectivity. However, existing methods are laborious and may not depend on trans-synaptic interactions, or otherwise ‘trap’ the synapses by fixing the connections, thus precluding dynamic studies. In order to study synaptic modifications, we developed a new transgenic approach for in vivo labeling of specific connections in C. elegans, called iBLINC (in vivo Biotin Labeling of INtercellular Contacts). iBLINC involves the biotinylation of an acceptor peptide (AP) by the Escherichia coli biotin ligase BirA. Both are fused to two interacting post- and pre-synaptic proteins, respectively. The biotinylated acceptor peptide fusion is detected by a monomer streptavidin fused to a fluorescent protein that is transgenically expressed and secreted into the extracellular space. The method is directional, bright and dynamic. Moreover it correlates well with electron micrograph reconstruction. Using this new technique to observe synapses, which are part of the thermosensory circuitry of C. elegans, during aging, we could conclude that the connection pattern varies with age and within a population. Changes of the number and size of the synapses were observed during aging. Some segments of the synaptic region seem to be more affected than others by the aging process. Those results were corroborated by using a GABAergic pre-synaptic marker which allowed us to visualize a decline of the vesicle number with aging. In summary, in this thesis I explained a new in vivo trans-synaptic method to visualize synapses in C. elegans. Then I demonstrated that a natural decline in the number of synapses as well as the number of vesicles occurs during aging

Recent studies in our lab have revealed the pro-apoptotic function of dapk-1 during programmed cell death. To understand how dapk-1 acts in programmed cell death, we performed structure-function analysis of dapk-1. Like its human homolog DAPk, DAPK-1 contains multiple domains including kinase domain, ankyrin repeats, and death domain. We found that kinase and death domains of DAPK-1 are required for its pro-apoptotic function. To our knowledge, this is the first evidence showing the involvement of death domain in C. elegans programmed cell death, implying the potential role of an extrinsic cell death pathway. Taking a candidate gene approach, we showed that the netrin receptor unc-5 might be the death receptor acting in the DAPK-1 mediated extrinsic cell death pathway. Other regions such as cytoskeleton binding region is dispensable and ankyrin repeats are not absolutely necessary for DAPK-1 pro-apoptotic function. This result is distinct from the previous finding that these regions are required for the apoptosis-promoting activity of human DAPk. More complicatedly, human DAPk is also known as a positive mediator of autophagy, implying the potential interplay of apoptotic and autophagic pathways. Therefore, we tried to include the autophagic genes in C. elegans programmed cell death. In this study we observed that autophagic genes such as bec-1 and unc-51 bring inhibitory effects to C. elegans programmed cell death and at least some bec-1 mediated cell deaths do not require egl-1. Moreover, from double-mutant analysis we found that in addition to developmentally regulated cell death, dapk-1 may also mediate autophagy-dependent cell death.

Let C be a class of groups, let G be a group and A, B two subgroups of G. We will say that A and B are C-connected if for all element a and b belonging respectively to A and B, the group < a, b > is in the class C. In particular we will focus on N-connection, where N is the class of nilpotent groups. Moreover, G is said to be the product of A and B, i.e. G=AB, if and only if for all element g in G, there exists a in A and b in B such that g=ab. In this thesis, given G=AB where A and B are N-connected subgroups, we discuss how some properties of the subgroups A and B can influence the structure of the whole group G.

The behavior of beam-to-column connections under earthquake-type loading has been studied in the past by testing isolated interior or exterior connections. In such tests, the beams are allowed to elongate freely when subjected to large deformation reversal. In a real building, however, the beams may be partially restrained against such elongation. The current design procedures which have been developed on the basis of tests on isolated connections, therefore, ignore the effects of continuity and beam elongation on the performance of connections. In this investigation, the behavior of connections was studied by testing indeterminate frame subassemblies under earthquake-type loading. Six half-scale multiple-connection subassemblies were tested. Each subassembly consisted of a two-bay frame isolated at the column mid-heights. Five single connection subassemblies were also treated to correlate the behavior of connections in multiple-connection subassemblies with the behavior of connections observed by testing isolated connections. Tests have shown that restriction to elongation of beams in indeterminate systems resulted in axial compression in beams which in turn had a significant effect on the performance of connections. The joint shear increased in both interior and exterior connections and the column-to-beam flexural strength ratio decreased. The energy dissipation was not affected by the continuity, but the lateral load resistance increased significantly. The stiffness degradation was more controlled and gradual in the indeterminate subassemblies compared to that observed in isolated connections. Based on the observed mechanism of lateral load resistance and the observed behavior of connections, a procedure is presented to account for the presence of axial compression in the main beams in the design of beam-to-column connections.

In recent years, the food market has been flooded with adulterated food products. However, I-MEI Foods Corporation insists on providing quality food. To support this company, people in Taiwan buy its products to boycott other dishonest food brands. In the beginning of 2016, a powerful earthquake happened in Tainan. Because of this earthquake and its aftermath, people discovered the unethical behavior of construction industry and voice their dissent against big corporations, which forces companies to face social corporate responsibility. With the society’s progression, people emphasize on public perception and self-esteem. We will be evaluating Taiwan’s biggest telecommunication company’s corporate social responsibility. To understand the correlations among various aspects of corporate social responsibility and create the research hypotheses, the study includes corporate social responsibility, brand image, perceived value, repurchase intention and literature review. Variance, regression, reliability and validity will be based on the results of the case study company consumers’ responses from the questionnaire. The research results found that: i. Social corporate responsibility and brand image are mutually beneficial toward each other. ii. Social corporate responsibility has optimistic correlation with the perceived value. iii. The brand image has positive impact on the perceived value. iv. The perceived value has positive impact on the repurchase intention. We hope that this research can be served as a reference for Corporate Social Responsibility for all enterprises in the industry, promoting corporate sustainability and ongoing concern to better the industry as well as fulfilling enterprise commitment to its society.
