Résumé :
To assess the role of adenylyl cyclase type 7 (AC7) in microglia’s immune function, we generated AC7 gene knockout (AC7 KO) clones from a mouse microglial cell line, BV-2, using the CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing system. The ability of BV-2 cells to generate cAMP and their innate immune functions were examined in the presence or absence of ethanol. The parental BV-2 cells showed robust cAMP production when stimulated with prostaglandin-E1 (PGE1) and ethanol increased cAMP production in a dose-dependent manner. AC7 KO clones of BV-2 cells showed diminished and ethanol-insensitive cAMP production. The phagocytic activity of the parental BV-2 cells was inhibited in the presence of PGE1; AC7 KO BV-2 cells showed lower and PGE1-insensitive phagocytic activity. Innate immune activities of the parental BV-2 cells, including bacterial killing, nitric oxide synthesis, and expression of arginase 1 and interleukin 10 were activated as expected with small effects of ethanol. However, the innate immune activities of AC7 KO cells were either drastically diminished or not detected. The data presented suggest that AC7 has an important role in the innate immune functions of microglial cells. AC7’s involvement in ethanol’s effects on immune functions remains unclear. Further studies are needed.

Résumé :
Abstract Even though the statistical theory of linear inverse problems is a well-studied topic, certain relevant cases remain open. Among these is the estimation of functions of bounded variation ($BV$), meaning $L^1$ functions on a $d$-dimensional domain whose weak first derivatives are finite Radon measures. The estimation of $BV$ functions is relevant in many applications, since it involves minimal smoothness assumptions and gives simplified, interpretable cartoonized reconstructions. In this paper, we propose a novel technique for estimating $BV$ functions in an inverse problem setting and provide theoretical guaranties by showing that the proposed estimator is minimax optimal up to logarithms with respect to the $L^q$-risk, for any $q\in [1,\infty )$. This is to the best of our knowledge the first convergence result for $BV$ functions in inverse problems in dimension $d\geq 2$, and it extends the results of Donoho (1995, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal., 2, 101–126) in $d=1$. Furthermore, our analysis unravels a novel regime for large $q$ in which the minimax rate is slower than $n^{-1/(d+2\beta +2)}$, where $\beta$ is the degree of ill-posedness: our analysis shows that this slower rate arises from the low smoothness of $BV$ functions. The proposed estimator combines variational regularization techniques with the wavelet-vaguelette decomposition of operators.

Résumé :
Functions of bounded deformation (BD) arise naturally in the study of fracture and damage in a geometrically linear context. They are related to functions of bounded variation (BV), but are less well understood. We discuss here the relation to BV under additional regularity assumptions, which may require the regular part of the strain to have higher integrability or the jump set to have finite area or the Cantor part to vanish. On the positive side, we prove that BD functions that are piecewise affine on a Caccioppoli partition are in GSBV, and we prove that SBDp functions are approximately continuous -almost everywhere away from the jump set. On the negative side, we construct a function that is BD but not in BV and has distributional strain consisting only of a jump part, and one that has a distributional strain consisting of only a Cantor part.

It is shown that a function of bounded variation in X is a BV function on almost every path with respect to the $\mathrm{AM}$-modulus. Properties of the $\mathrm{AM}$-modulus, its relations to the usual ${M_{1}}$-modulus and to the BV-capacities of condensers are studied. Only minimal assumptions on X and the measure ν are employed.

Résumé :
Approximately 30% of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) have cognitive impairment and 8%–14% fulfil the criteria for behavioural variant frontotemporal dementia (bv-FTD). The cognitive profiles of ALS and bv-FTD have been reported to be comparable, but this has never been systematically investigated. We aimed to determine the cognitive profile of bv-FTD and examine its similarities with that of ALS, to provide evidence for the existence of a cognitive disease continuum encompassing bv-FTD and ALS. We therefore systematically reviewed neuropsychological studies on bv-FTD patients and healthy volunteers. Neuropsychological tests were divided in 10 cognitive domains and effect sizes were calculated for all domains and compared with the cognitive profile of ALS by means of a visual comparison and a Pearson’s r correlation coefficient. We included 120 studies, totalling 2425 bv-FTD patients and 2798 healthy controls. All cognitive domains showed substantial effect sizes, indicating cognitive impairment in bv-FTD patients compared to healthy controls. The cognitive domains with the largest effect sizes were social cognition, verbal memory and fluency (1.77–1.53). The cognitive profiles of bv-FTD and ALS (10 cognitive domains, 1287 patients) showed similarities on visual comparison and a moderate correlation 0.58 (p=0.13). When social cognition, verbal memory, fluency, executive functions, language and visuoperception were considered, i.e. the cognitive profile of ALS, Pearson’s r was 0.73 (p=0.09), which raised to 0.92 (p=0.03), when language was excluded in this systematic analysis of patients with a non-language subtype of FTD. The cognitive profile of bv-FTD consists of deficits in social cognition, verbal memory, fluency and executive functions and shows similarities with the cognitive profile of ALS. These findings support a cognitive continuum encompassing ALS and bv-FTD.

AbstractIn this paper we introduce and investigate the regularity properties of one-sided multilinear fractional maximal operators, both in continuous case and in discrete case. In the continuous setting, we prove that the one-sided multilinear fractional maximal operators$\mathfrak{M}_\beta^{+}\; \text{and}\, \mathfrak{M}_\beta^{-}$map W1,p1 (ℝ)×· · ·×W1,pm (ℝ) into W1,q(ℝ) with 1 < p1, … , pm < ∞, 1 ≤ q < ∞ and $1/q= \sum_{i=1}^m1/p_i-\beta$, boundedly and continuously. In the discrete setting, we show that the discrete one-sided multilinear fractional maximal operators are bounded and continuous from ℓ1(ℤ)×· · ·×ℓ1(ℤ) to BV(ℤ). Here BV(ℤ) denotes the set of functions of bounded variation defined on ℤ. Our main results represent significant and natural extensions of what was known previously.

The CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ regulatory T cell(Treg) play an important role in regulating the immune response. Treg can reduce inflammation and allergic reactions through its inhibitory functions. In this study, we reasoned that BV inhibits inflammatory diseases by effect on Treg and examined the effect of BV in naïve mice. Diverse concentration was treated everyday for 5days and BV significantly expanded Treg on 1mg/kg concentration. This result proposes that BV can attenuate asthma. We used 7-10 weeks female Balb/c mice were sensitized with ovalbumin(OVA). As a result, BV decreased inflammatory cytokine secretion including IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 in bronchoalveolar lavage(BAL) fluid. Also BV was significantly decrease structural remodeling of the airway. The number of Neutrophil, Lymphocyte, Macrophage, and total cells were significantly lower in the BV group than the OVA group. These results suggest that BV has potential therapeutic value for controlling asthma responses resulting from exposure to allergens.

Résumé :
AbstractIn this paper we investigate the endpoint regularity properties of the multisublinear fractional maximal operators, which include the multisublinear Hardy–Littlewood maximal operator. We obtain some new bounds for the derivative of the one-dimensional multisublinear fractional maximal operators acting on the vector-valued function with all ƒ j being BV-functions.

Résumé :
In Humanity without Dignity, Sangiovanni offers an interesting new approach to human rights theory called the “Broad View” (BV) of human rights. The BV involves an innovative attempt to overcome the debate between orthodox and political theories of human rights. While orthodox and political theories each capture certain roles or functions that human rights have in practice, it remains unclear how to reconcile some of their differences. The BV seeks to resolve this debate by drawing a distinction between the concept and particular conceptions of human rights. It offers a general concept of human rights, and then allows for both orthodox and political conceptions of this concept. The aim is to show that neither orthodox nor political theories make a conceptual mistake about human rights, while also accommodating their recognition of the various roles or functions human rights have in practice. This article assesses the success of the BV in resolving the debate, suggesting that several types of indeterminacy bring into question whether it has accomplished this aim.

Résumé :
Bee venom (BV) is a rich source of secondary metabolites from honeybees (Apis mellifera L.). It contains a variety of bioactive ingredients including peptides, proteins, enzymes, and volatile metabolites. The compounds contribute to the venom’s observed biological functions as per its anti-inflammatory and anticancer effects. The antimicrobial action of BV has been shown in vitro and in vivo experiments against bacteria, viruses, and fungi. The synergistic therapeutic interactions of BV with antibiotics has been reported. The synergistic effect contributes to a decrease in the loading and maintenance dosage, a decrease in the side effects of chemotherapy, and a decrease in drug resistance. To our knowledge, there have been no reviews on the impact of BV and its antimicrobial constituents thus far. The purpose of this review is to address the antimicrobial properties of BV and its compounds.

Résumé :
In this paper we provide an integral variational formulation for a vector play operator where the inputs are allowed to be arbitrary functions with (pointwise) bounded variation, not necessarily left or right continuous. We prove that this problem admits a unique solution, and we show that in the left continuous and right continuous cases it reduces to the well known existing formulations.
