Résumé :
New business opportunities rarely conform to the way the industry traditionally approached the market, which is an opportunity for newcomers and flexible small and medium-sized enterprises to be the first in recognizing and taking advantage of emerging market opportunities. However, newcomers and small and medium-sized enterprises may be too young or too small to possess all the required competencies and resources. They need to organize themselves in business networks, in which business partners complement each other. This article suggests a sketch of the form and methods of a framework that allows the ‘Quality of Information’-based discovery of potential business partners who can offer resources like sensors, actuators, and processing services. In the Real World Internet, this would enable small and medium-sized enterprises to create an appropriate business network and to quickly react to emerging business opportunities.

Résumé :
Solopreneurs, i.e. entrepreneurs who run their businesses alone, are surprisingly common constituting some 15% of the work force in Europe and the United States. This study aims to clarify solopreneurs’ relationship to growth by analyzing the daily work of established solopreneurs from two different perspectives; how they perceive their well-being at work and how they perceive the development of their businesses. This research objective is addressed by using grounded theory methodology and thematic interviews. According to the findings of this study, solopreneurs follow a specific pattern in their activities that differentiates them from other entrepreneurs. The entrepreneur’s position as a solopreneur encourages him or her to continue alone. The feedback that solopreneurs receive from the environment directs them to focus on their personal professional skills rather than on business and growth. In addition, solopreneurs do not use networks to develop their businesses even though entrepreneurship literature highlights the importance of networks for business development. However, solopreneurs acknowledge the importance of networks for their personal well-being.

Résumé :
From the perspective of the future development trend of strategic management theory, business ecosystem (BET), commercial Mode and dynamic capability of enterprises are the mainstream trends of the future development of strategic management theory. At the same time, it indicates that there are some internal relations and inevitable laws among them that deserve scholars’ attention. The structure of BET can be examined from two perspectives. According to the closeness and importance of members in the system, BET can be divided into four subsystems: core ecosystem, competition system, support system, society and natural environment system. According to the different roles played in their respective business networks, enterprises can be divided into four types: network core type, dominant type, profit-taking type and gap type. The research on the evolution from leading enterprises to BET is a relatively new research field, but with the development of economic society, it is the only way for enterprises to survive and develop that enterprises and their stakeholders form a BET with competitive advantages through loose confluence. It is hoped that it can give reference to enterprises in the complex business environment and help them achieve long-term development.

Résumé :
The world is confronted with social and environmental issues that must be addressed, and businesses often play an essential part in this process. The characteristic organizational structure of the modern global economy is business networks. Many governments and local leaders propose membership in business networks as an alternative growth approach for regional economic vibrancy. These policies help in fostering hyperlocal economies in a holistic manner. Moreover, local businesses are encouraged to participate in these networks to help them achieve their ESG objectives. This contribution frequently encourages the growth of sustainable enterprises and attracts impact investments. The goal of this study is to elucidate the function of business networks in boosting the economies of the local communities in which they are embedded. It also focuses on how these networks help small enterprises access sustainability and innovation which in turn makes them key contributors to both, the global and local economy.

Résumé :
This study focuses on how the social networks of entrepreneurs shape the business strategies adopted by the Chinese private enterprises and the role of social networks in sustaining competitive advantage. Using data collected from 418 surveys and 53 interviews with private entrepreneurs in Guangdong Province in 2013, this study investigates how entrepreneurs embedded in different business-to-business (B2B) networks and business-to-government (B2G) networks perceive the role of social networks in the design and implementation of business strategies. This study also explores the types of political participation private entrepreneurs use to overcome discrimination that undermines their legitimacy and constrains access to resources. The findings from logistic regression and analysis of interviews indicate that private entrepreneurs perceive that B2B networks enable their firms to access accurate information to seize business opportunities, and strengthen long-term oriented buyer-supplier relationships. B2G networks help private firms to overcome the administrative obstacles and access state controlled resources. Private entrepreneurs also employ various political strategies to advance their interests. They usually value more highly membership of the People’s Congress (PC) or People’s Political Consultative Conference (PPCC) over membership of the Communist Party in strengthening B2G connections and establishing firm legitimacy. Overall, this study of Guangdong entrepreneurs contributes to the business literature in seeking to integrate theories about social networks and business strategy. It provides empirical data on how the private enterprises in China use their social networks in business. The results extend the understanding of social network in business strategy and contribute to the studies on social network theory and strategic management in transition countries. A deeper understanding of the role of the social networks in the business environment in China helps managers to choose a more suitable strategy to compete in the market.

Résumé :
Thesis (MTech (Information Technology))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2012.
South Africa has a complex financial and retail service industry with high reliance on the use of IT systems to ensure effectiveness and maintainability. Decision making and improved outcomes may be done through an IT aligned enterprise architecture (EA) strategy. EA is a capability that contributes to the support and success of an organisations' IT. Organisations are currently using EA to better align IT and the business strategy which provides a comprehensive v.ew of the IT system. Thus, EA is increasing in organisations yet the measurement and value of EA is limited to organisations and enterprise architects. The discussions of the benefits and value of EA has been discussed for several years, however there are still no consensus about how the benefits and value of EA can be measured. The lack and clear understanding of the benefits and value of EA needs to consider different aspects of IT as well as the shareholders when measuring the benefits and value of EA to an organisation.

Résumé :
This research aims to explore whether business networks perform the same or a similar strategic role for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) belonging to the same context. Particularly, this research aims to explore whether such a strategic role emerges in the form of context-dependent inter-company patterns. For this purpose, two contexts were researched: the Swiss SME Finance Industry and the Swiss SME NON-Finance Industry. The Swiss SME Finance Industry represents the major context researched, with the Swiss SME NON-Finance Industry being researched to help confirm and debate the findings concerning the Swiss SME Finance Industry and so to reveal the sought-after context-dependent inter-company patterns. Thus, this research interprets the context as the combination of country (Switzerland), enterprise size (SME), and industry (Finance, NON-Finance). Therefore, the sought-after context-dependent inter-company patterns refer to the same country and enterprise size, but separate indu stry-related data. This research was motivated by the researcher's personal, professional experience with SME business networks. This experience has shown to the researcher the importance of knowing contextual conditions when strategizing with business networks. Particularly, the researcher has experience that understanding contextual needs can significantly reduce 'unexpected' outcomes when implementing business network strategies. Thus, this study took place to further deepen the contextual knowledge about business networks. This study identifies two context-related inter-company patterns - that is, two strategic networks. On the one hand, both contexts know a 'People Business Network'. On the other hand, a 'Customer Centricity Network' emerged only within the Swiss SME Finance Industry. Along with these findings, which refer to the main research aim, two major strategic activities, which connect these networks, were identified and further analysed b usiness relationship (management) and collaboration. Thus, this research confirms the importance of researching context-related business network strategies. This study further provides significant details, which SME executives or SME networkers should consider when developing and implementing business network strategies.

Résumé :
This thesis focuses on efficient provisioning of resilient Virtual Private Network (VPN) services. It first confirms the intuition that network resources can be more efficiently utilized when resilience mechanisms are implemented by a network provider in the physical network than by its VPN customers in their VPNs. Next, a Multiprotocol Label Switching-based programmable VPN architecture is presented that delivers virtual links as resilient quality of service (QoS) connections and virtual sites. Virtual sites allow customers to implement functionality like customized routing and content adaptation ???in the cloud???, as opposed to the current network model where all functionality is implemented at the network edge. To provision a resilient QoS connection, two paths need to be computed from the ingress to the egress nodes, such that both paths meet the given QoS constraints. Two different frameworks have been proposed in the literature to compute resilient QoS connections when the QoS constraints are bandwidth and end-to-end delay. They both use a preprocessing step whereby either all links with less residual capacity than the given bandwidth constraint are pruned, or the given end-to-end delay is converted to an effective bandwidth. The frameworks thus reduce the problem to one with only a single constraint. We argue in this thesis that these frameworks individually lead to poor network utilization and propose a new framework where both constraints are considered simultaneously. Our framework exploits the dependency between endto- end delay, provisioned bandwidth and chosen path through using the provisioned bandwidth as a variable. Here, two link-disjoint paths are computed together with their respective minimum bandwidths such that both the bandwidth and end-to-end delay constraints are satisfied. Given our framework we first propose a new generic algorithm that decomposes the problem into subproblems where known algorithms can be applied. Then we propose two new linear programming (LP) formulations that return the two paths and their respective bandwidths such that they have the minimum combined cost. To make our framework applicable in a production environment, we develop two new algorithms with low run times that achieve even higher network performance than their LP formulation counterpart. These algorithms systematically use an algorithm that computes non-resilient QoS connections. As no algorithm for computing nonresilient QoS connections with sufficiently low run time has been proposed in the current literature we develop two new algorithms and their respective heuristics with a run time comparable to Dijkstra???s shortest-path algorithm. Our simulations show that exploiting the dependency between end-to-end delay, provisioned bandwidth and chosen path can significantly improve the network performance.

Résumé :
The main purpose of this article is to evaluate the current state of network communication channels in an organization and to propose recommendations for their development as a part of external em-ployer’s brand-building strategy by an example of selected Polish enterprises. This paper reviews the social network tools used thus far by the 100 Largest Polish Private Companies listed in 2017 Forbes Magazine report. The analysis involves not only their Internet presence and the way these enterprises are presented but also the level of interactivity of their activities in selected social media (e.g. Face-book, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter). The results show that most of the companies examined have not adopted a systematic approach to the employer branding practices they use. Therefore, a conclusion might be drawn that, although these enterprises are present in the social media networks, and they use various external communication channels in order to reach their stakeholders, they still fail to adopt a strategic orientation in developing their activities.

Résumé :
Nowadays, SMEs aim to establish business’s networks to be competitive with multinationals, which requires the sharing of knowledge, strategies and resources to boost the sector’s and the cooperation’s consolidation. Even if all the enterprises of a business network alliance come from the same business area, each one has its own view or perspective of its domain knowledge. Thus different conceptual, semantic and lexical knowledge representations may occur and therefore it is expected to happen non-transparent and interoperability inconsistencies of the shared information. This paper proposes a web user interface component that could enable to identify and classify the resulting possible semantic heterogeneities in a flexible way. This software component will then support the semantic mapping establishments that answer the mentioned requirements.

Résumé :
China has recently become the third largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the world and is a major source of development aid for developing countries, including those in the Caribbean. The capital flows it provides have taken the form of loans to governments to finance infrastructure projects and to expand production of oil and other raw materials. There have been indications of interest in further investment in the Caribbean from Chinese enterprises and entrepreneurs. This is driven by both state policy, which seeks to more actively integrate China into the global economy, and enterprise-level interests by both state and private enterprises. Caribbean governments have generally been receptive to prospective incoming FDI. This paper identifies the instances of Chinese FDI in the Caribbean to date and discusses the potential for further investment, highlighting opportunities in agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, mining, infrastructure, and fishing. The factors influencing the emergence of Chinese FDI in the Caribbean include: the ongoing learning process by both investors and the governments of host countries; the performance of vanguard companies; transnational ethnic business networks; the local business environment; and the policies of Caribbean governments.
