Texte intégralIn many communication receivers, it's necessary to locally generate carrier or clock reference signals. Generally, these signals are derived from the incoming signal using Phase-Locked Loops (PLLs). PLLs are usually considered in the classical mode of operation, where the input signal is permanently present. Nevertheless, these deviees are very used now in another mode of operation, where the input sig nal is present only in bursts. This is, for example, the case of the T. D. M. A system or the M. A. C television system. The study presented in this thesis deals with the operating properties of the PLLs used in the burst mode of operation. In this study, we consider the following types of PLLs: first order PLLs, second order PLLs with a passive lag-lead filter, second order PLLs with an active (proportional-plus-integral) filter, first order PLLs with a zero order hold, second order PLLs with a passive lag-lead filter and a zero order hold. The behavior of these PLLs is studied generally in the case of an operation characterized by an incoming signal affected by step changes in phase and frequency. The performances of these PLLs in the presence of an additive Gaussian noise are also presented. The last part is devoted to the practical use of the results of this study to the M. A. C system case

Texte intégralThe explosion of the wireless communication market is largely responsible of the expansion for RF communication standards for voice and data. Nowadays, each one of them must be integrated in one mobile terminal. However, this trend is opposed to the constraints of low cost, which tend to reduce the size of the electronics in a mobile terminal, but also the constraints of reduced consumption for greater autonomy for wireless systems. It is then around these technological and technical barriers that focus an important part of efforts to « R & D » today. Thus, the objective of the work presented is based on research and development of an architecture that contributes to improve the performances of the central block of transceivers: the local oscillator. The innovative architecture of multistandard synthesizer realized is based on the principle of Delay Oriented Design (DOD). A new technique of stabilization, based on the superposition of a delay and a phase locked loop, is proposed to expand the bandwidth. From study system to measurements through the behavioral comportment and implementation of the circuit, the various stages when designing an RF system are presented. Simulations and measurements have demonstrated the ability of the synthesizer to cover a frequency band between 1.6 and 3.5 GHz with a reference signal at 500MHz, but also to stabilize a broadband architecture

Texte intégralThis thesis proposes a study of the stability of the Charge-Pump Phase Locked Loop (CP-PLL). Performances of the transient response of this circuit explains its large use in industrial design. Although the CP-PLL is an hybrid circuit (discrete time part coexists with continuous time parts), signals are represented and analysed by linear models. As there is no others results, stability limits of these linear models are steel used in the industry. Non-linear models can be found in the literature, these models offer high precision results but no analysis tool involving these non-linear models has been proposed. Using hybrid formalism to rewrite non-linear models, we can apply new results on hybrid stability to achieve this first stability proof based on exact waveforms. A piece-wise non-linear model of the CP-PLL can be studied by linearising each non-linear vector field around the fixed point of interest. A theorem is proposed to deduce the local stability of the non-linear system from its linearisation. Stability test is expressed by linear matrix inequalities (LMI). Using the S-procedure to relax conditions in well-chosen region we reduce drastically the conservatism of the sufficient proof. By this way we propose a new stability condition which is less restrictive than linear systems ones. Experimental results tend to confirm this new stability frontier

Texte intégralAn atomic force microscope (AFM) is used to characterize insulating materials or semiconductors with a resolution up to the atomic length scale. The microscope includes a force sensor linked to a control electronic in order to properly characterize these materials. Among the various modes (static and dynamic), we focus mainly on the dynamic mode and especially on the frequency modulation mode (FM-AFM). In this mode, the force sensor is maintained as a harmonic oscillator by the servo system. The research project ANR Pnano2008 entitled: "metal piezoresistivity silicon carbide cantilever for very high frequency dynamic AFM" aims to significantly increase the performance of a FM-AFM by developing new very high frequency force sensors. The goal is to increase the sensitivity of the sensor and to decrease the time necessary to obtain topography images of the material. The control system of this new sensor must be able to detect frequency variations as small as 100mHz for cantilevers with resonance frequencies up to 50MHz. Since the state-of-the-art systems doe not present these performances, the objective of this thesis was to develop a new control system. It is fully digital and it is implemented on a FPGA based prototyping board. In this report, we present the system overall functioning and its main features which are related to the cantilever resonant frequency detection. This detection is managed by a phase locked loop (PLL) which is the key element of the system

Texte intégralThe topic of this thesis is designing and modelling oscillators for professional mobile phones applications. A first study is carried out with a view to designing on silicon the best circuit using standard CMOS technology. The conclusions of this study lead to the choice of an oscillator using a LC resonator. A design method to achieve better phase noise performances with this schematic is also described. The measurement results both corroborate the methodology and validate the circuit. Therefore, future components involving a change of technology will include the same circuit structure. To increase furthermore the design speed and ease the simulation convergence, a Verilog-A model allowing faster phase noise simulations is conceived. This model uses mainly technology properties as parameters. A VHDL-AMS model is developed using this Verilog-A model to simulate the whole receiving chain with a standard language
