Résumé :
Abstract The Brout Englert Higgs (BEH) mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking and mass generation was experimentally confirmed after the discovery of the Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider in 2012. The BEH mechanism not only predicts the existence of a massive scalar particle, but also requires this scalar particle to couple to itself. Double Higgs production provides a unique handle, since it allows the extraction of the trilinear Higgs self-coupling. VBF di-Higgs production also probes the quartic Higgs bosons to vector bosons coupling (c 2 v). In this topic the effort on setting constraints on c 2 v will be discussed. Event selection and reconstruction will be illustrated as well as a Neural Network designed to identify VBF events.

Résumé :
Composite Higgs models have the potential to provide a solution to the hierarchy problem and a dynamical explanation for the generation of the Higgs potential. They can be tested at the LHC as the new sector which underlies electroweak symmetry breaking must become strong in the TeV regime, which implies additional bound states beyond the Higgs. In this paper, we first discuss prospects and search strategies for top partners (and other quark partners) in the strongly coupled sector, which we study in an effective field theory setup. In the second part of the proceedings, we go beyond the effective field theory approach. We discuss potential UV embeddings for composite Higgs models which contain a Higgs as well as top partners. We show that in all of these models, additional pseudo-Nambu–Goldstone bosons beyond the Higgs are present. In particular, all of the models contain a pseudoscalar which couples to the Standard Model gauge fields through Wess–Zumino–Witten terms, providing a prime candidate for a di-boson (including a di-photon) resonance. The models also contain colored pNGBs which can be searched for at the LHC.

The newly discovered boson was only observed in diboson final states. The measurement of the fermionic decay modes of this new particle is essential to establish its compatibility with the Standard Model Higgs boson. The two main final states accessible at the LHC are the decay into pairs of b quarks and τ leptons, both of which are experimentally challenging. In some cases, the exploitation of specific Higgs boson production modes allows to significantly increase the experimental sensitivity. One can also extend the search by looking for di-muon final states. We present the results of a search for a neutral MSSM Higgs boson decaying to a pair of tau leptons. The analyzed data sample corresponds to integrated luminosity of approximately 200 pb-1 of [Formula: see text] collisions at [Formula: see text]. It was collected by the CDF detector during Run 2 of the Fermilab Tevatron. We select tau pairs in which one of the taus decays hadronically and the other to e or μ and neutrinos. We see no evidence of signal and perform a fit to the (partially) reconstructed di-tau mass to set limits on the product of Higgs production cross-section and its branching fraction to taus.

Résumé :
Abstract The great success of the Standard Model has reached its maximum with the Higgs boson discovery. However, several anomalies observed in the universe when applying the gravitational theory, lead to believe that the visible matter is not the only constituent of the universe. A new matter component, called dark matter, must be introduced through an extension of the Standard Model. A simple scenario consisting in adding a new gauge symmetry U D (1) and, as a consequence, a new (massive) gauge boson, the dark photon A′. PADME is a new experiment of the Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati searching for the A′, decaying invisibly, produced in the fixed target annihilation e+e − → γA′. The technique used by the experiment to probe the dark photon hypothesis is the missing mass method. The PADME experiment took data in two runs. Some preliminary highlights from the ongoing data analysis effort are presented.

Résumé :
This talk is mainly based on our previous work.1 We will investigate the possibility of detecting light long-lived particle (LLP) produced by high energy cosmic ray colliding with atmosphere. The LLP may penetrate the atmosphere and decay into a pair of muons near/in the neutrino telescope. Such muons can be treated as the detectable signal for neutrino telescope. The particle with such behavior is very similar with that of the first observed strange particle in cosmic ray events, which was coined historically as "V-particle" in some literature. This study is motivated by recent cosmic electron/positron observations which suggest the existence of O(TeV) dark matter and new light O(GeV) particle. It indicates that dark sector may be complicated, and there may exist more than one light particle, for example the dark gauge boson A′ and associated dark Higgs boson h′. In this work, we discuss the scenario with A′ heavier than h′ and h′ is treated as LLP. Based on our numerical estimation, we find that the large volume neutrino telescope IceCube has the capacity to observe several tens of di-muon events per year for favorable parameters if the decay length of LLP can be comparable with the depth of atmosphere. The challenge here is how to suppress the muon background induced by cosmic rays and atmospheric neutrinos.

Résumé :
We study a gauge-singlet vector-like fermion hidden sector dark matter model, in which the communication between the dark matter and the visible standard model sector is via the Higgs-portal scalar-Higgs mixing and also via a hidden sector scalar with loop-level couplings to two gluons and also to two hypercharge gauge bosons induced by a vector-like quark. We find that the Higgs-portal possibility is stringently constrained to be small by the recent LHC di-Higgs search limits, and the loop induced couplings are important to include. In the model parameter space, we present the dark matter relic density, the dark-matter-nucleon direct detection scattering cross section, the LHC diphoton rate from gluon-gluon fusion, and the theoretical upper bounds on the fermion-scalar couplings from perturbative unitarity.

Conditions for a phase change with the formation of an α-particle condensate in excited N = Z nuclei, a dilute Bose-Gas, are discussed for excitation energies around EBα = 0, These are second order phase transitions in a mixed gas of Fermions and Bosons. The de-Broglie wavelength of relative motion for α-particles in these states is much larger then the nuclear radii. The experimental observation of the decay of such condensed α-particle states is proposed, with the coherent emission of several correlated α-particles, a decay not described by the Hauser-Feshbach approach for statistical compound nucleus decay. Examples of such observations with the enhanced emission of unbound resonances of 8 Be and [Formula: see text] — clusters are discussed. Résumé :
Abstract A high-granularity scintillator calorimeter readout with silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) is an electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) candidate for experiments at the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC). A critical design parameter of this ECAL candidate is the dynamic range of the SiPMs. This study investigates the SiPM dynamic range required for the CEPC scintillator ECAL. A model is developed on the basis of the operation principles of SiPMs to describe the response of an SiPM to light pulses within one recovery period by considering the cross-talk effect, photon detection efficiency, and number of pixels. The response curve of a 10000-pixel SiPM predicted by the model is consistent with the measured curve within 2% for an incident light pulse of up to 12000 photons. The intrinsic fluctuations of the SiPM response naturally exist in this model, and the correction of the saturation effect in the SiPM response is investigated. Monte Carlo (MC) simulation shows that the algorithm can restore the response linearity of an SiPM for an incident light pulse in which the number of photons is up to around six times the number of SiPM pixels. The model and correction program are implemented for full simulation of the ZH production Z → νν, H → γγ channel to evaluate the impact of the SiPM dynamic range of the CEPC scintillator ECAL on the reconstructed Higgs boson mass and the sensitivity to the Higgs signal in this channel. The results show that the CEPC scintillator ECAL equipped with no less than 4000 SiPM pixels and operated with a light yield of 20 photon-electrons per channel for a single minimum ionizing particle can meet the requirements for Higgs boson precision measurement in the di-photon channel at the CEPC.

Résumé :
In this work, we point out that the apparent diphoton excess initially presented by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations could have originated from a radion in the bulk Higgs scenario within a warped extra dimension. In this scenario, the couplings of the radion to massive gauge bosons are suppressed, allowing it to evade existing searches. In the presence of mixing with the Higgs, due to the strong constraints from diboson searches, only points near what we denominate the alignment region were able to explain the diphoton signal and evade other experimental constraints. In light of the new measurements presented at ICHEP 2016 by both LHC collaborations, which do not confirm the initial diphoton excess, we study the current and future collider constraints on a radion within the bulk-Higgs scenario. We find that searches in the diphoton channel provide the most powerful probe of this scenario and already exclude large regions of parameter space, particularly for smaller warp factors. The radion has a sizeable branching ratio into top pairs and this channel may also give competitive constraints in the future. Finally, di-Higgs searches can provide a complementary probe in the case of nonzero radion-Higgs mixing but strong alignment.

Cuaima (Lachesis muta muta)(Lmm) is responsible for particular envenomations that occur mainly in people who are exploring forest areas, in logging activities, mining exploitation (mainly gold and diamonds) or indigenous people who live in small communities and develop their vital activity in tropical and subtropical jungles of the Venezuelan Lmm territory. A fibrinolytic toxin has been purified from the venom of bushmaster cuaima by size exclusion chromatography Sephacryl 300 chromatography column. Fractions collected with high fibrinolytic and scarce haemorrhagic activities were further fractionated by a cationic exchange Carboxymetil-Sepharose (CMS) chromatography column. From CMS was obtained a molecular mass ~26 kDa single band by SDS-PAGE, called Yuyilysin, which had fibrinolytic activity that was completely lost after treatment with ethylene di-amine tetra acetic acid (EDTA). In conclusion, Yuyilysin showed a broader spectrum of activities, with moderate haemorrhagic activity, non-oedematogenic achievement, but strong fibrinolytic and coagulant actions.

Résumé :
Efforts to improve hygiene behavior and increase access to sanitation continue to be developed. One of the applications of the Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) concept, CLTS is a concept with a promotion approach by facilitating the community to apply good environmental sanitation with a focus on not defecating in the open. Based on the 2019 annual report Health Center, the incidence of diarrhea ranks second in environmental-based diseases with 111 cases. Résumé :
In particle physics, workflow management systems are primarily used as tailored solutions in dedicated areas such as Monte Carlo event generation. However, physicists performing data analyses are usually required to steer their individual workflows manually, which is time-consuming and often leads to undocumented relations between particular workloads. We present the Luigi Analysis Workflows (Law) Python package, which is based on the opensource pipelining tool Luigi, originally developed by Spotify. It establishes a generic design pattern for analyses of arbitrary scale and complexity, and shifts the focus from executing to defining the analysis logic. Law provides the building blocks to seamlessly integrate interchangeable remote resources without, however, limiting itself to a specific choice of infrastructure. In particular, it encourages and enables the separation of analysis algorithms on the one hand, and run locations, storage locations, and software environments on the other hand. To cope with the sophisticated demands of end-to-end HEP analyses, Law supports job execution on WLCG infrastructure (ARC, gLite) as well as on local computing clusters (HTCondor, LSF), remote file access via most common protocols through the GFAL2 library, and an environment sandboxing mechanism with support for Docker and Singularity containers. Moreover, the novel approach ultimately aims for analysis preservation out-of-the-box. Law is entirely experiment independent and developed open-source. It is successfully used in tt̄H cross section measurements and searches for di-Higgs boson production with the CMS experiment.

Résumé :
Abstract At the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), both the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations have been searching for light charged Higgs bosons via top (anti)quark production and decays channels, like pp → t$$ \overline{t} $$ t ¯ with one top (anti)quark decaying into a charged Higgs boson and a b (anti)quark, when the decay is kinematically open (i.e., when $$ {m}_{H^{\pm }} $$ m H ± ≲ mt). In this paper, we propose new searches at the LHC involving light charged Higgs bosons via their pair production channels like pp → H±h/A and pp → H+H− in the 2-Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM) Type-I and -X scenarios. By focusing on the case where the heavy H state plays the role of the Standard Model (SM)-like Higgs boson with a mass near 125 GeV, we study the aforementioned Higgs boson pair production channels and investigate their bosonic decays, such as H± → W±h and/or H± → W±A. We demonstrate that for a light charged Higgs boson state, with $$ {m}_{H^{\pm }} $$ m H ± ≲ mt, at the LHC, such di-Higgs production and decay channels can give rise to signatures with event rates much larger than those emerging from pp → t$$ \overline{t} $$ t ¯ → t$$ \overline{b} $$ b ¯ H− + c.c. We specifically study h/A → b$$ \overline{b} $$ b ¯ and τ+τ− decays. We, therefore, claim that the discussed combination of new production and decay modes can result in an alternative discovery channel for charged Higgs bosons lighter than the top (anti)quark at the LHC within the above two 2HDM Types. Finally, in order to motivate experimentalists in ATLAS and CMS to search for such signatures, we propose 16 Benchmark Points (BPs) which are compatible with both theoretical and experimental constraints.

Résumé :
AbstractAn important task at future colliders is the investigation of the Higgs-boson sector. Here the measurement of the triple Higgs coupling(s) plays a special role. Based on previous analyses, within the framework of Two Higgs Doublet Models (2HDM) type I and II, we define and analyze several two-dimensional benchmark planes, that are over large parts in agreement with all theoretical and experimental constraints. For these planes we evaluate di-Higgs production cross sections at future high-energy $$e^+e^-$$ e + e - colliders, such as ILC or CLIC. We consider two different channels for the neutral di-Higgs pairs $$h_i h_j=hh,hH,HH,AA$$ h i h j = h h , h H , H H , A A : $$e^+e^- \rightarrow h_i h_j Z$$ e + e - → h i h j Z and $$e^+e^- \rightarrow h_i h_j \nu {{\bar{\nu }}}$$ e + e - → h i h j ν ν ¯ . In both channels the various triple Higgs-boson couplings contribute substantially. We find regions with a strong enhancement of the production channel of two SM-like light Higgs bosons and/or with very large production cross sections involving one light and one heavy or two heavy 2HDM Higgs bosons, offering interesting prospects for the ILC or CLIC. The mechanisms leading to these enhanced production cross sections are analyzed in detail. We propose the use of cross section distributions with the invariant mass of the two final Higgs bosons where the contributions from intermediate resonant and non-resonant BSM Higgs bosons play a crucial role. We outline which process at which center-of-mass energy would be best suited to probe the corresponding triple Higgs-boson couplings.

Résumé :
AbstractThe prediction of additional Higgs bosons is one of the key features of physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) that gives rise to an extended Higgs sector. We assess the sensitivity of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the high luminosity (HL) run alone and in combination with a possible future International Linear Collider (ILC) to probe heavy neutral Higgs bosons. We employ the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) as a framework and assume the light $$\mathcal {CP}$$ CP -even MSSM Higgs boson to be the Higgs boson observed at $$125\,\mathrm{GeV}$$ 125 GeV . We discuss the constraints on the MSSM parameter space arising from the precision measurements of the rates of the detected signal at $$125\,\mathrm{GeV}$$ 125 GeV and from direct searches for new heavy Higgs bosons in the $$\tau ^+\tau ^-$$ τ + τ - , $$b\bar{b}$$ b b ¯ and di-Higgs (hh) final states. A new benchmark scenario for heavy Higgs searches in the $$b\bar{b}$$ b b ¯ channel is proposed in this context. For the future Higgs rate measurements at the HL-LHC and ILC two different scenarios are investigated, namely the case where the future rate measurements agree with the SM prediction and the case where the rates agree with the predictions of possible realizations of the MSSM Higgs sector in nature.

Résumé :
Abstract In this paper, a new technique for reconstructing and identifying hadronically decaying τ+τ− pairs with a large Lorentz boost, referred to as the di-τ tagger, is developed and used for the first time in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. A benchmark di-τ tagging selection is employed in the search for resonant Higgs boson pair production, where one Higgs boson decays into a boosted $$ b\overline{b} $$ b b ¯ pair and the other into a boosted τ+τ− pair, with two hadronically decaying τ-leptons in the final state. Using 139 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, the efficiency of the di-τ tagger is determined and the background with quark- or gluon-initiated jets misidentified as di-τ objects is estimated. The search for a heavy, narrow, scalar resonance produced via gluon-gluon fusion and decaying into two Higgs bosons is carried out in the mass range 1–3 TeV using the same dataset. No deviations from the Standard Model predictions are observed, and 95% confidence-level exclusion limits are set on this model.

In July 2012, the two experiments ATLAS and CMS, operating at the CERN proton-proton collider LHC, announced the discovery of a new particle consistent with the Higgs boson. This observation confirms a key prediction of the Standard Model of particle physics, that the Universe is pervaded by a field which conveys mass to the elementary constituents of matter. This paper reviews the experimental effort which led to such a result, and the challanges that had to be overcome during the conception and constuction of LHC and its experiments, the most powerful accelerator and the most complex detectors ever built. Finally, the nature and role of CERN and the meaning and impact of fundamental research are briefly discussed.

Résumé :
Abstract We present a comprehensive study on Higgs pair production in various archetypical extended Higgs sectors such as the real and the complex 2-Higgs-Doublet Model, the 2-Higgs-Doublet Model augmented by a real singlet field and the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. We take into account all relevant theoretical and experimental constraints, in particular the experimental limits on non-resonant and resonant Higgs pair production. We present the allowed cross sections for Standard Model (SM)-like Higgs pair production and the ranges of the SM-like Yukawa and trilinear Higgs self-coupling that are still compatible with the applied constraints. Furthermore, we give results for the pair production of a SM-like with a non-SM-like Higgs boson and for the production of a pair of non-SM-like Higgs bosons. We find that di-Higgs production in the models under investigation can exceed the SM rate substantially, not only in the non-resonance region but also due to resonant enhancement. We give several benchmarks with interesting features such as large cross sections, the possibility to test CP violation, Higgs-to-Higgs cascade decays or di-Higgs production beating single Higgs production. In all of our benchmark points, the next-to-leading order QCD corrections are included in the large top-mass limit. For these points, we found that, depending on the model and the Higgs pair final state, the corrections increase the leading order cross section by a factor of 1.79 to 2.24. We also discuss the relation between the description of Higgs pair production in an effective field theory approach and in the specific models investigated here.

Résumé :
Abstract We study the potential of lepton collisions with about 10 TeV center of mass energy to probe Electroweak, Higgs and Top short-distance physics at the 100 TeV scale, pointing out the interplay with the long-distance (100 GeV) phenomenon of Electroweak radiation. On one hand, we find that sufficiently accurate theoretical predictions require the resummed inclusion of radiation effects, which we perform at the double logarithmic order. On the other hand, we notice that short-distance physics does influence the emission of Electroweak radiation. Therefore the investigation of the radiation pattern can enhance the sensitivity to new short-distance physical laws. We illustrate these aspects by studying Effective Field Theory contact interactions in di-fermion and di-boson production, and comparing cross-section measurements that require or that exclude the emission of massive Electroweak bosons. The combination of the two types of measurements is found to enhance the sensitivity to the new interactions. Based on these results, we perform sensitivity projections to Higgs and Top Compositeness and to minimal Z′ new physics scenarios at future muon colliders.

Résumé :
AbstractIn several searches for additional Higgs bosons at the LHC, in particular in a CMS search exploring decays to pairs of top quarks, $$t\bar{t}$$ t t ¯ , and in an ATLAS search studying tau leptons, $$\tau ^+\tau ^-$$ τ + τ - , local excesses of about $$3\,\sigma $$ 3 σ standard deviations or above have been observed at a mass scale of approximately $$ 400 \,\text {GeV}$$ 400 GeV . We investigate to what extent a possible signal in these channels could be accommodated in the Next-to-Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (N2HDM) or the Next-to Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM). In a second step we analyze whether such a model could be compatible with both a signal at around $$400\,\text {GeV}$$ 400 GeV and $$96\,\text {GeV}$$ 96 GeV , where the latter possibility is motivated by observed excesses in searches for the $$b \bar{b}$$ b b ¯ final state at LEP and the di-photon final state at CMS. The analysis for the N2HDM reveals that the observed excesses at $$400 \,\text {GeV}$$ 400 GeV in the $$t\bar{t}$$ t t ¯ and $$\tau ^+\tau ^-$$ τ + τ - channels point towards different regions of the parameter space, while one such excess and an additional Higgs boson at around $$96\,\text {GeV}$$ 96 GeV could simultaneously be accommodated. In the context of the NMSSM an experimental confirmation of a signal in the $$t\bar{t}$$ t t ¯ final state would favour the alignment-without-decoupling limit of the model, where the Higgs boson at $$125\,\text {GeV}$$ 125 GeV could be essentially indistinguishable from the Higgs boson of the standard model. In contrast, a signal in the $$\tau ^+\tau ^-$$ τ + τ - channel can only be accommodated outside of this limit, and parts of the investigated parameter space could be probed with Higgs signal-rate measurements at the (HL-)LHC.

Abstract We clarify the role of vector boson fusion (VBF) in the production of heavy vector triplets at the LHC and the HL-LHC. We point out that the presence of VBF production leads to an unavoidable rate of Drell-Yan (DY) production and highlight the subtle interplay between the falling parton luminosities and the increasing importance of VBF production as the heavy vector mass increases. We discuss current LHC searches and HL-LHC projections in di-boson and di-lepton final states and demonstrate that VBF production outperforms DY production for resonance masses above 1 TeV in certain regions of the parameter space. We define two benchmark parameter points which provide competitive production rates in vector boson fusion.

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2013 has been awarded to P.W. Higgs and F. Englert for the conception of a theoretical framework that contributes to the understanding of the origin of mass of subatomic particles. The mechanism (known as the Higgs mechanism) has been recently confirmed by the observation of the fundamental particle predicted (the so called Higgs boson) by the ATLAS and CMS experiments of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, Geneva. Particle physicists all over the world, both theoreticians and experimentalists, have contributed to the result in the last thirty years, to say the least: in the present paper an account is given of this discovery, a milestone in the current understanding of the microcosm.

Résumé :
Abstract In 2018 CMS reported an excess in the light Higgs-boson search in the diphoton decay mode at about 95 GeV based on Run 1 and first year Run 2 data. The combined local significance of the excess was 2.8 σ. The excess is compatible with the limits obtained in the ATLAS searches from the diphoton search channel. Recently, CMS reported another local excess with a significance of 3.1 σ in the light Higgs-boson search in the di-tau final state, which is compatible with the interpretation of a Higgs boson with a mass of about 95 GeV. We show that the observed results can be interpreted as manifestations of a Higgs boson in the Two-Higgs Doublet Model with an additional real singlet (N2HDM). We find that the lightest Higgs boson of the N2HDM can fit both excesses simultaneously, while the second-lightest state is such that it satisfies the Higgs-boson measurements at 125 GeV, and the full Higgs-boson sector is compatible with all Higgs exclusion bounds from the searches at LEP, the Tevatron and the LHC as well as with other theoretical and experimental constraints. Finally, we demonstrate that it is furthermore possible to accommodate the excesses observed by CMS in the two search channels together with a local 2.3 σ excess in the $$ b\overline{b} $$ b b ¯ final state observed at LEP in the same mass range.
