Résumé :
Hybridization between wild and domestic bovine occurs widely due to the overlapping of the natural habitat of the wild and human farm animals. Due to the loss of habitat, the number of wild gaur (Bos gaurus) in Vietnam was in serious decline. Since 2009, a male wild gaur (Bos gaurus) has appeared and incorporated with female domestic cows (Bos taurus) in buffer zone Phuoc Binh National Park, on the border with Lam Dong and Ninh Thuan provinces. Then, several calves were born that carried some traits of wild gaur including physical characteristics and behaviors. These calves were supposed to be offspring between wild gaur and domestic cows. In previous study, the karyotypes of putative calves were identified with 2n = 58 and non-homologous chromosome 28 and 29 in these hybrids. In this study, we characterized the putative hybrids between track-lacking Bos gaurus and Bos taurus for breeding and preservation using Cytochrome b analysis, microsatellites and a novel marker growth hormone factor 1 (POU1F1). Cytochrome b analysis indicated the maternal lineage of the putative hybrids, with 100% nucleotide sequence identity. Microsatellite BM861 and sequence of ZFY gene region reveal Bos taurus chromosome Y origin was among the male putative hybrids. Importantly, the analysis of POU1F1 gene sequence on 1 chromosome showed efficacy in determining both Bos gaurus and Bos taurus lineage in the putative hybrids. The karyotyping results were confirmed by molecular analysis and our results provide a feasible way for detecting the putative hybrids between wild and domestic cattle in case of lacking the wild trace.

The main purpose of the present thesis was to study three highly threatened ruminant species from the Annamites: the saola (Pseudoryx nghetinhensis), the large-antlered muntjac (Muntiacus vuquangensis) and the gaur (Bos frontalis). By using both cytogenetic and molecular approaches, we attempted to gain a deeper understanding of their phylogenetic affinities, patterns of chromosomal evolution and, in the case of the gaur, population genetic diversity. Our phylogenetic analysis of chromosomal data suggests the placement of the saola within the subtribe Bubalina, which contains the species of the genera Bubalus and Syncerus. Second, we studied the karyotype of M. Vuquangensis and compared its banding patterns to those available for six other species of the tribe. Phylogenetic analysis of the chromosome data resulted in the tree fully congruent with that obtained after analysis of the complete mitochondrial genome sequences. Thus both data sets strongly support a close relationship between M. Vuquangensis and M. Reevesi. Third, an analysis of 130 microsatellite markers was undertaken to assess genetic diversity of the wild gaur population in Vietnam. Outcomes of this study suggest an urgent need for further detailed analysis of genetic diversity in gaur populations, and its incorporation in population management strategies. In conclusion, our cytogenetic and molecular information reported herein provide guidelines for further conservation policies not only of species investigated, but also for the ex situ conservation of other threatened and endangered species in the Annamite range

The growing size of BOPs, longer drilling campaigns on wells, and operations in harsher environments has resulted in increased challenges in properly documenting wellhead fatigue during planned or executed drilling operations. The industry has started directing its efforts toward the calibration of analytical tools which are typically adopted for predicting wellhead fatigue. The ultimate goal for achieving this ambitious scope is to identify a benchmark set of analytical results that will predict field measurements. Early on Statoil identified a major obstacle: the absence of a good and comprehensive dataset of field measurements to serve as point of reference. Statoil and Aker Solutions cooperated on a pilot project with the intent of collecting a dataset of full scale measurements during drilling operations to be used to validate and calibrate the theoretical wellhead fatigue calculation methodologies. The main objective of the instrumentation campaign was to measure sectional forces as close as possible to typical wellhead hotspots by the use of three sets of strain gauges installed on the outside surface of the conductor and on the outside of the surface casing. With the objective of collecting an exhaustive dataset of measurements, accelerometers and inclinometers were installed on the BOP, the riser adapter, the riser below the upper flex joint and on the rig. An additional set of six strain gauges was installed on the riser to record riser tension variations. Environmental conditions were logged on board the rig and by the hindcast data provider. Operational events were carefully logged. This paper presents the following: • Data processing used for quality assurance and calibration of the measured data and the associated data challenges • Highlights of the instrumentation system capabilities to capture salient events of a typical drilling campaign and of ad-hoc performed rig operations to calibrate and validate the measured data • Effect of a controlled rig cross motion test, performed to evaluate quasi static loads on the well and calibrate strain gauge sensor orientations • A riser pull test, performed to validate strain gauge functioning • Several landing and disconnecting of the LMRP • Manipulation of the preload between the high pressure housing and the low pressure housing to investigate the effect of the preloading on the load sharing between the casings Since King and Soloman [2], the industry is still lacking quality field data to be used in order to validate the various analytical models used in the analyses of subsea conductor and wellheads. The results will confirm the quality of the measured data and will represent a first data point of comprehensive measured field data. This data will be used for future required work in calibrating the different building blocks pertaining to the analytical tools dedicated to well head fatigue predictions [3].

Résumé :
In this work a coupled finite difference method and finite element method (FDM/FEM) is developed for numerical simulation of vortex induced vibration (VIV) phenomenon with an elastically deformable circular cylinder. The algorithm is based on a FDM with CIP (Constraint Interpolation Profile) method to fluid dynamics and a FEM to solve structural dynamics. Coupling between FDM and FEM is realized by BGS (Block Gauss-Seidel) procedure. IB (Immersed Boundary) method is applied for data transferring on the interface between fluid and structure. In this paper, numerical simulations of a 2-D circular cylinder at low Reynolds number are carried out. The effect of stiffness of the cylinder shell on the vortex shedding is investigated.

Résumé :
Over the last decades, the complexity and duration of offshore drilling operations have steadily increased. The size and weight of the risers and BOP stack has grown significantly. These factors have led to an increase in fatigue loads imposed on the wellhead structures during drilling and completion operations. Wellhead fatigue might ultimately lead to loss of well structural integrity and pressure containment and therefore safe and reliable drilling of subsea wellheads has gained high priority in the global oil and gas industry. This paper presents two of the most complex real time instrumentation campaigns for drilling operations. Analyses of a connected drilling riser system including the well structure are complex and involve several engineering disciplines. In addition, there are many unknowns going into the equations when accumulated fatigue damage of the wellhead is estimated. Therefore, assumptions need to be made, very often on the conservative side. A typical example are the global drilling riser analyses where the environmental conditions, actual rig motion and riser / BOP behavior are uncertain. With the duplex scope of accurately documenting the wellhead fatigue status during drilling operations and of achieving a better understanding of the actual risk level of wellhead fatigue, Statoil decided to start a very comprehensive monitoring campaign. Two MODU representing very different generations of rigs in terms of weights and types of equipment were instrumented from topside to BOP connector. Strain gauges were installed around the BOP connector as close as possible to the wellhead in order to capture wellhead response as accurately as possible. Due to the large number of sensors, high accuracy requirement and high sampling frequency of data to be shown live, a cabled solution was selected vs remote battery operated sensors transmitting via acoustic. Double set of cables, sensors and topside equipment were installed in order to make the instrumentation system fully redundant and suited for permanent installation. All data were additionally made available real time onshore to allow the full overview of the operation. To author’s knowledge, these two instrumentation systems are the most comprehensive and complex of this type installed on a drilling riser as of today. The first of the two system was installed approximately three years ago and it is still in operation. This paper describes the instrumentation systems installed and gives an extract of the quality data extracted and already used in already published studies [1, 2, 3].

Résumé :
Abstract For subsea well drilling, the drilling rig is connected to the subsea well by a marine riser and subsea BOP equipped with a remotely controlled wellhead connector latched onto the subsea wellhead profile. The level of cyclic loading on subsea wellheads is steadily increasing due to use of increasingly larger drilling rigs with larger BOPs, the drilling of wells in harsher environments characterized by strong high waves. The remotely controlled wellhead connector forces a series of locking dogs into an externally machined profile on the wellhead. This external profile is generally referred to as a wellhead profile. The fatigue resistance of this safety-critical connection is typically estimated by FE analysis. Due to the large size of the equipment, and high cost of testing, very limited fatigue testing, if any, has been carried out. A test method has therefore been developed, where a special test fixture is used to apply realistic boundary conditions and variable tensile loads to a small sector or segment of a wellhead connector. A primary objective is to generate fatigue-critical stress fields in the segments under tensile test load that closely replicates the stress fields in a full-scale connector subject to bending loads. A secondary objective is to support the introduction of the practice of testing several segments cut from a single wellhead connector. The testing of narrow sector segments allows the use of readily available test apparatus. It is thereby envisaged that the total cost of testing (specimens and test laboratory costs) can be substantially reduced in comparison with full-scale connector fatigue testing. This paper describes the text fixture, the connector locking dog, and wellhead segments designed to replicate the stress fields in a full-scale wellhead connector. The test fixture and test specimens are designed to match conditions and fatigue stress of the full-scale connector. The test specimens are instrumented with strain gauges at fatigue hotspots. Digital image correlation (DIC) is used to measure the relative motion between the wellhead segment and the locking dog. The measured strains are compared with corresponding values from finite element analysis of the test. The DIC results are also used for estimating the coefficient of friction between wellhead profile and locking dog. Very good agreement is found between measured hotspot strains and strains from the FE analyses for consistent load conditions. The test fixture is therefore considered suitable for segment fatigue testing, where the test results can be used to estimate the bending fatigue capacity of a full-scale wellhead connector. Results from fatigue testing by this test method are presented in a separate OMAE2020 paper.

Résumé :
Abstract Chevron Corporation and Bluewater Energy Services (BES) performed a chain out-of-plane bending (OPB) test, called OPB MAX hereafter, at DNV GL’s laboratory in Høvik-Norway. The test was performed to study the OPB phenomenon for a chain diameter which was larger than the maximum diameter tested by the OPB JIP. The goal was to understand chain OPB physics for such a large diameter, measure interlink stiffness and maximum sliding moments and validate BES’ in-house finite element model. The current study is a collaboration between all involved parties and the results will be presented in three papers. The first paper summarizes the test setup and instrumentation. The second paper describes the test results, compares them with the OPB JIP estimations and tries to describe the chain OPB physics. The third and the last paper presents the FEA results performed by BES’ in-house finite element model. This paper is the first of the three and focuses on the test setup and instrumentation. The testing machine has been developed by DNV GL and is capable of applying tensions up to 350 t and interlink rotations in the range of ±3 degrees. Two 7-link chain specimens of R4 and R4s grades, both with the nominal diameter of 168 mm were tested at five tension levels from 150, to 350 t. Testing was performed in both wet and dry conditions. Twenty strain gauges were used to measure 3 OPB and 2 IPB moments at 5 mid-link positions. Twelve strain gauge rosettes were used on 3 links to evaluate SCF’s on the OPB hotspots. Seven inclinometers were used to monitor link rotations. DNV GL utilized a digital image processing tool to capture relative movements of chain links and developed a specific data processing tool to calculate the interlink stiffness, perform statistical analysis and provide several levels of data evaluation and comparison between the tests. The paper will provide a description of the test matrix and test objectives are given with the background of the previously performed OPB tests. Next a detailed description of the test rig is presented including the utilized instrumentation. Finally, an explanation of the implemented real-time test monitoring and the performed post-processing on the readings, in line with the test objectives is mentioned. The initial test results are briefly provided at the end.

Résumé :
To investigate the ability of numerical models to simulate the behavior of moored ships subjected by ship-wake waves, use is made of scale model tests where a ship model sails with constant speed along a straight path at a constant distance from an otherwise motionless ship. The tests were carried out at one of the wave tanks of the Portuguese Civil Engineering Laboratory (LNEC). The moving ship is a self-propelled scale model of the “Aurora” chemical ship whereas the otherwise motionless ship is a scale model of the “Esso Osaka” tanker. The free-surface elevation was measured with a set of resistive wave gauges and ADVs. The tanker’s movements, induced by the wake waves, were measured along the six degrees of freedom with a gyroscope deployed inside the ship. The numerical model WAMIT provides, in the frequency domain, the quantities required to estimate the hydrodynamic forces associated to the interaction of a free-floating ship with waves. The BAS model uses those hydrodynamic forces to study in the time domain the ship interaction with any sea-waves acting on it. Wind and current actions can also be accounted for. The results of these numerical models are compared to the measurements made in the several repeats of one of those scale-model tests, in terms of the response amplitude to several wave components. These comparisons enabled the evaluation and validation of the numerical models parameters’ calibration process.

Bala. L51600 Engineering Critical Assessment of Girth Welds in Small Diameter Pipe. Chantilly, Virginia : Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. (PRCI), juin 1989. http://dx.doi.org/10.55274/r0010101.

Résumé :
Transmission pipeline girth welds are fabricated and inspected to rigorous material standards such as API 1104, CSA Z 184 and BSI 4515. These standards contain weld defect acceptance levels based on good workmanship criteria and have been arrived at on the basis of traditional welding and inspection practices. In certain instances, defects that do not meet the workmanship standards have been accepted on the basis of an engineering critical assessment (ECA) using the British Standard PD 6493 assessment technique. The use of ECA is now being incorporated into the pipeline codes. Four girth welds containing hydrogen induced cracking (HIC) defects at the root were prepared in small diameter (305 mm) thin wall (6.35 mm) X52 pipes using E6010 (E41010) electrodes for the root and hot passes and E7010 (E48010) electrodes for the fill and capping passes. The CTOD tests were performed for the girth welds using each of HIC as well as fatigue pre-crack for the crack. The minimum, the average and an intermediate (between minimum and average) CTOD value at -40C obtained for the specimens containing HIC were used to determine the surface crack sizes for the girth weld roots from BS PD6493. The girth weld containing the 1/4 thickness HIC was full scale tested at -40C. The test was terminated when the remote strain gauges showed plastic deformation/ buckling in the pipe. The second and third full- scale girth weld tests were carried out with the half wall and an intermediate (between 1/4 and 1/2 wall) wall defect. In both cases the girth failed when the remote strain gauge readings in the pipe were still elastic.

Nazioen Lehiatzeko Abantaila : Esperientzia arrakastatsua, Euskal Autonomia Erkidegoaren ekonomia eta gizarte garapenerako estrategia eraldatzailea bideratzekona. Universidad de Deusto, 2015. http://dx.doi.org/10.18543/pdmc8484.

Résumé :
Ekonomia berriak eta ongizate gizarteek zergatik gomendatuko lukete geraleku berri bat jartzea lehiakortasunerako bidaia luzean, duela 25 urte argitaratu zen "nazioen lehiatzeko abantailaren" ildotik? Orain dela hogeita bost urte baino gehixeago, Euskal Autonomia Erkidegoak garapenerako bere estrategia eraikitzearen aldeko apustua egin zuen eta bere etorkizuna diseinatzeko erronkarekin konpromisoa hartu. Euskal Autonomia Erkidegoak ahalik eta autogobernu mailarik handiena eskuratu nahi zuen, Estaturik gabeko nazio izanik, diktadura luzetik atera ostean. Hain zuzen ere, diktadurak Espainiako ekonomia autarkikoa izatea eragin zuen, mendebaldeko demokrazietatik guztiz isolatua. Horrek guztiz mugatzen zuen euskal erakundeek beren etorkizuna eraikitzeko izan zezaketen ahalmena eta erantzukizuna, baita gizarteari ongizate maila handiagoa lortzen laguntzeko erabil zitzaketen tresnak ere. Garai hartan, euskal ekonomiak historiako krisi ekonomiko, politiko eta sozial handienetako bat bizi zuen: indarkeriak gogor jotzen zuen gizartea, langabezia % 25etik gorakoa zen, BPG jaisten ari zen, eta industria sektore gakoak –altzairuaren nagusitasunean eta industria metal-mekanikoaren inguruan egituratuak– erortzen ari ziren, domino fitxen moduan. Garai bertsuan, Europako sei herrialde Ekonomia Elkartea osatzen hasiak ziren, baina gu periferian geunden, guztiz baztertuta, Londres-Milan etorkizuneko ardatz izango zen "banana urdinetik" urrun. Administrazio berria eraikitzen hasi berriak ginen, inongo esperientziarik gabe, baina ilusio handiz; eta enpresa mundua garai berrietara moldatzen eta sindikatuekin bizitzen ikasten ari zen, diktadura zaharrak haiek ezkutuan utzi baitzituen. Erronka konplexu baina zirraragarri horren aurrean, apustu hori lantzeko pribilegioa izan genuenok, lehenengo, munduko ekonomiaren egoera azalduko zuten gako nagusiak eta aldaketaren joera nagusiak interpretatzeari ekin genion (gure analisiak eginez eta gure asmoak eta ametsak egi bihurtu nahian), eta euskal ekonomian izan zezaketen eragina aztertzen hasi ginen (“Munduko ekonomiak erakusten diguna"). Eta, abiapuntu horretatik aurrera, “Geure ekonomia eta geure herrialdea modernizatzeko eta nazioartekotzeko estrategia” deitutakoa definitzen hasi ginen. Zentzua eman nahi genion jokalari berriengandik (Estatuak, hiri-eskualdeak, lurraldeak…) espero zitekeen rolari; izan ere, rol horietan gure herrialde txikia –hirieskualdearen ezaugarriak zituena, nazioz azpiko eremua izanik, Pirinioen bi aldeetara egituratu gabeko eremuan–, beste batzuekin batera, protagonista izan zitekeen eta, horrela, gizarteari etorkizun oparoa eskaini. Arrakastako estrategia aurrera eramateko esparru eta tresna egokiak ere behar genituen. Paradigma berriek sortuko zituzten beharren eta garai hartako gure esparru politiko-ekonomikoak eskaintzen zizkigun tresnen (edukiak, gaitasunak, garapen potentzialak) arteko aldea identifikatu genuen, eta azterketa horri herrialdearen estrategia erantsi genion, geurea, arreta berezia eskaintzen ziena gure gizarteak, ongizate eta garapen maila jakin bat erdiesteko, behar zituen ekimenei eta faktore edo bektore kritikoei. Testuinguru horretan, Eusko Jaurlaritza Michael E. Porterrengana hurbildu zen, garai hartako bere ideia eta kontzeptuetara, eta lankidetza prozesu bati ekin genion (gaur egun oraindik ere indarrean dagoena). Horrela, "Euskal Autonomia Erkidegoko lehiatzeko abantaila” baino gehiago eraiki genuen, “lehiakortasunerako eta oparotasunerako bidaia" zirraragarri eta amaitu gabean. Euskal Autonomia Erkidegoak pribilegio bat du orduz geroztik: Porterrek proposatutako kontzeptuak, ikuspegi estrategikotik eta osotasunean, aplikatu zituen lehenengo nazioa izatea. Hain zuzen ere, kontzeptu horiek, urte batzuk geroago, "Nazioen Lehiatzeko Estrategia” liburu ospetsuan argitaratu zituen, orain dela hogeita bost urte. Lan horrek, mundu osoan zehar, politika eta estrategia zenbatezinak diseinatzea ekarri du, jarraitzaileak ugaritzea, prestatzaileak prestatzea, ikertzaile eta akademiko berri asko eta asko sortzea, policy maker berriak, lehiakortasunerako tresna berriak, eta oparotasun maila ikusgarriak planeta osoan zehar. Orduz geroztik, gure proiektu berezi, bizi eta aldakor honetan elkarrekin lan egin dugu, erronka berriei eta ekonomiaren eta gizartearen eskari berriei erantzunez, eta Herrialde mailako estrategia bat eraikiz eta gauzatuz. Horrek guztiak ekarri du gure emaitzak inguruko ekonomienak baino hobeak izatea. Michael E. Porterrek Lehiatzeko Abantailan proposatzen duen kontzeptuaren osagarri berriak ere (Lehiakortasunaz gainera, Shared Value Initiative eta Gizarte Aurrerapena) kontuan hartzen dituen esparru kontzeptuala aurrean izanik eta egunez egun ikasitako ekarpenekin, geure bokazio, izaera, borondate eta konpromisoarekin guztiz lerrokatuta. Prozesu amaigabea, pertsonak abiapuntu eta helmuga hartzen dituen estrategia eraikitzeko apustu zaharraren eredutik eta ulertzeko modutik hasi zena.
