Résumé :
The ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education, adopted in 2016, “encourages information literacy librarians to be imaginative and innovative in implementing the Framework in their institutions” (ACRL Framework, appendix 1). In this spirit, authors Brier and Lebbin have collected eighteen very short stories—typically one to three pages in length—whose themes raise questions concerning the nature of authority, the process of searching, and the creation and value of information. Following each story, the authors add discussion questions designed to initiate philosophical conversations among librarians, instructors, and students about significant topics in information literacy.

Opowiadania oświęcimskie (Auschwitz stories) by Maria Zarębińska-Broniewska was first published in a book version in 1948. All the texts included in the book, however, had beenwritten earlier. First of them were initially released in a daily Polska Zbrojna (Armed Poland) in early June 1945, just a few days after the author’s return from a concentration camp. They were one of the first accounts which concerned women’s concentration camps. The book which was published later included nine out of eleven short stories written by Zarębińska. There is also an extant manuscript a novel’s synopsis. However, a very ambitious project of creating tens of short stories was not completed due to the author’s death. This article is a description of the history of Auschwitz stories and their particular editions; it also includes two forgotten stories which were not included in published collections.

Résumé :
This article discusses the encyclopedic entry on the representation of spirituality in the short stories of Setangkai Melati di Sayap Jibril by Danarto. From the phenomenological analysis of the encyclopedic entries of spirituality representation in the short stories in the book, it can be stated that the spiritual dimension in Danarto's short story collection, for the way of representation, explores his spirituality inspiration through a number of encyclopedic entries. In simple terms, the various entries in the encyclopedia of spirituality can be mapped into four categories, namely (1) representations of spirituality that cultivate the myths of guardians in Java, (2) representations of spirituality that process wayang stories, (3) representations of spirituality that are spiritual from The guardian myth entries and the wayang world, both of them, are two indigenous encyclopedias, so the spiritual dimension in this collection of short stories can be mapped more simply into three entry categories, namely spirituality with indigenous encyclopedias, spirituality with contemporary encyclopedias, and spirituality with encyclopedias. futuristic. The distribution of the encyclopedic entries on the path of spiritual representation shows that the short stories in this book can be regarded as representations that maintain the meaning of spirituality in its essence, namely as something that has a single meaning, and at the same time shows that the representation of spirituality is something that is open to a variety of possible path choices.

Résumé :
Humor is a significant element in funny stories. This study aims to analyze the types and functions of humor in selected Nasreddin’s short stories from the book Nasreddin’s Funniest Stories (2011) by Yusup Priyasudiarja and Y. Sri Purwaningsih. By using the descriptive qualitative method, the study adopts textual analysis to examine the materials. Based on the analysis result, the types of humor applied in the stories are that joke, sarcasm, satire, replies to rhetorical question, clever replies, and double entendres. However, these writings lack some other typical types of spontaneous conversational humor used in short stories’ texts: puns and self-deprecation. Meanwhile, unintentional humor is also not found in the Nasreddin short stories because it is raised from the speaker’s misspellings, mispronunciations, errors in logic, and Freudian slips. Further reading shows that the underlying usage of humor in these stories is for social management: to control and mediate readers.

Résumé :
This article tries to determine the factors causing the Low Malay short stories became unaccounted, especially those that were collected in Miss Koelit Koetjing (2005), in the constellation of the history of modern Indonesian literature. To answer these problems, this paper explores the criteria applied by the author of the history of Indonesian literature, comparing it with the Low Malay short stories, and relates them to their cultural historical context. The results showed the reason that Low Malay short stories collected in Miss Koelit Koetjing were not accounted, are caused by the following factors. First, most of the short stories still retain the traditional genres, such as hikayat (saga) and fairy tales, which show the strength of the cultural orientation of the past. Second, the authors of short stories are not natives; the author is not in the sense of the creator, the creator, but a storyteller, just to recount a story that has been there before. Third, short stories were published in newspapers and not in the book form. Fourth, the world of their stories came from diverse cultures and not from the world of the Indonesian archipelago. With a similar reality, it can be concluded that the short stories collected in Miss Koelit Koetjing, in the broad realm of Low Malay literature, is a literary tradition of its own in the constelation history of Indonesian literature.

Résumé :
Collection of short stories of James Joyce in a book under the title of “Dubliners” (1914) is a collection composing of 15 short stories, which topic of all of them is living in Dublin (stories about death, love, live in school, etc.). Short story of “sisters” narrates feelings of a boy about death of a priest. The first woman, who is afraid of love, a mother in law speaks about ambition and destroys her daughter. It ispainful narrative of a single man, who leaves the woman he loves and the woman finds in the time of her death that he has been in his loneliness all his life. Accordingly, it could be mentioned that the author has selected in his short stories a style that Flober has been its establisher. (Stein et al, 2008)The present study has analyzed two short stories of the mentioned collection under the titles of “The Dead Persons” and “The sisters\s”. In this analysis, the author has considered internal modes and feelings of characters of the story. Process of analyzing the two works has been firstly related to analysis of every story separately and then has been related to goals and destinies of creator of the work and totally his collection of short stories. Finally, the study has considered investigation and analysis of short stories of James Joyce, which analysts and critics of his works have presented it and it is that Dubliners should be considered as an origin and generality. Considering stories of this artist separately can’t be a competent work, since as it is obvious in this collection, the author has been tended to achieve a specific goal through considering a certain order for these stories.

Résumé :
Estranhões & Bizarrocos: Stories for angels to sleep is a children’s and young adult book authored in Portuguese by Angolan writer José Eduardo Agualusa. This paper posits that the book’s constituent short stories, initially intended for children, bear potential appeal to readers across all age brackets, situating themselves within the realm of ‘crossover fiction’. The book’s title resonates with the semantic sphere of the strange or peculiar. Within the narratives, ‘the stranger’ correlates with the child's fantastical world, but also aligns with the ‘foreigner’ inherent within these short stories. To unpack the representations of this ‘bizarre’ Other depicted in the stories, we employ literary imagology. This approach reveals the role of images curated by the narrators in constructing the implicit theme shared across the book’s 10 short stories. Lastly, the work provokes readers to ponder the value of seemingly usefulness things and situations—a reflection that carries its own meta-literary significance.

/ Researching fear as a driving subject in short stories “The Book” and “Aska and the Wolf” by Ivo Andrić, we observed the phenomenon of fear from the literary-artistic and psychological perspectives, its mechanisms, constructive and destructive performance, as well as the ways it could be overcome by bravery, broader view of reality, creative expression and constructiveness. We particularly relied on the philosophical premises of Schopenhauer and Kierkegaard and Vladeta Jerotić’s paper On Fear as well. The selected short stories by Andrić best present different variations of behavior of an individual when facing fear, ranging from being overwhelmed with fear, as the boy from the short story The Book is, to the creative and active state, illustrated by Aska’s “dance for life”, which allowed us to use a comparative method in studying the described phenomenon as well.

Résumé :

Eka Kurniawan's Corat-coret di Toilet short stories compilation book contains twelve short stories that tell about light stories everyday but full of social criticism. Some of the short stories that portrayed female characters presented women who were not free in their lives, one of which was titled Dongeng Sebelum Bercinta and Si Cantik yang Tak Boleh Keluar Malam. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the position of women and their resistance toward patriarchal domination. This is interesting to be studied further by using feminist theory to find the position of women in literary works written by male writers. This research will focus on the actions of female characters which shape their position in the story. The data used in this study are in the form of words, sentences or expressions from short stories that show the dominance of patriarchy towards women and their efforts to get out of domination. From research using feminist theory it was found that patriarchal domination arises in the closest male characters to female characters such as fathers, male friends and husbands. Women resistance in the story was a form of false resistance which in turn strengthened the dominance of patriarchy and the dichotomy between men and women. This was found based on the fact that every resistance made by women turned to weaken women themselves.

This is a powerful book that documents and examines the horrible exploitation of labor in contemporary China, particularly the vulnerable migrant workers from rural areas. The bulk of the book is the compilation of more than twenty investigative stories that Chan selects from the Chinese language newspapers and journals published in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. All the investigative stories were written by Chinese reporters—some took great risks to do it—and translated into English by Chan and her collaborators. For each case Chan provides a short introduction and “comment” to help the reader comprehend the materials in context and to clarify certain references. In several cases Chan also gives follow-ups to the stories.

Résumé :
Refik Halit Karay is considered one of the most important novel and short story writers in the Turkish Literature in the 20th century. He was born on 15 of March 1888 in Istanbul, the capital of the Ottoman State at that time. He died on 18 of July 1965 after a life lasted for 77 years. He was buried in his birthplace Istanbul in the cemetery of Zincirlikuyu. He wrote and published several works in different fields of literature. He added a great deal of contribution to Turkish literature especially in the republican period. Memleket Hikâyeleri is one of the books of the second stories of Refik Halit Karay. It is the most important and famous short story for the writer in the field of stories. Among other important stories are: the Poor Amina, Peach Gardens, the Big Bull, Wahbi Afandi Doubts, Yellow Honey, The Joke, The Brown Donkey, Neighbor‟s honor, the Deposit, Omar‟s Contest, Once a Year, a Teacher‟s Painting, Strange Gift, Attack, and the Destiny of Angry Aisha which contains about 18 short stories. It is undoubtedly the most interesting book in the field of short stories in Turkish Literature. The first edition of this book published in 1919 while the second edition published in 1947 received a revision by the writer himself. Although the subject of the story changes from one story to another, the book comes in the first place among stories of depression and sorrow. Depression is a state of being unable to exit from the current situation in addition to suffering from difficulties and hence feeling exhausted. Depression has its own concept and its own details. It reflects the dilemma in facing the unsolved problems or impossible to be solved. It has been studied earlier by the writers themselves. Depression, as humane and psychological concept, appears repeatedly in the book Memleket Hikâyeleri by the Turkish writer Refik Halit Karay and analyzes deeply this concept through accurate original expressions. This paper starts with this detailed abstract. After presenting life of the writer Refik Halit Karay and his literary personality as well as his works, there is an emphasis on his work entitled Memleket Hikâyeleri. After the introduction about the concept of depression, the paper studies this concept in Refik Halit Karay‟s Memleket Hikâyeleri

Résumé :
During her short life Katherine Mansfield wrote numerous short stories, which place her among the best authors of this genre in world literature. The au thor of this paper tries to establish the reception of Mansfield's work and the critics' response in Slovenia. First translations of her stories were published in various Slovene magazines and reviews after the Second World War. However, the most complete and artistically successful presentation of her work was prepared in 1963 when Jože Udovič published twenty-eight short stories written by this author under the title Katherine Mansfield: The Garden Party. Udovič also contributed the introduction about the author and her work. The book was very well received in Slovenia not only by the reading public, but also by critics, who praised Mansfield and Udovič's translation as well. After that more than twenty years passed, before Katarina Mahnič translated Katherine Mansfield's short story "The Singing Lesson" in 1988. We can conclude that hopefully some new translations of Katherine Mansfield's stories will appear soon.

Résumé :
One way of examining fiction texts in literature is to analyze the structure of anecdotes from Vladimir Propp's morphological point of view. For fairy tales, Propp has defined functions that are applicable to a variety of other tales and stories. The book "Qatla al-Qur'an" by Abu Isḥāq al-Tha’labī is a collection of anecdotes, all of which have a common point and they are all about the stories of those who lost their lives after hearing a verse or verses from the divine book. Examining the narrative structure of these short stories reveals the hidden relationships between the anecdotes in their infrastructure and reveals the structure and form of the stories better. In this article, this attractive Tha’labī’s work has been analyzed from a morphological point of view by descriptive-analytical method. As a result, the introductory works and the climax of the story, which usually marks the end of it, are the most important design of Tha’labī for creating a single and uniform structure in the anecdotes of this book.

In this article I try to demonstrate Mario Vargas Llosa’s precocious abilities as author in the first short stories he wrote at nineteen-twenty years of age. My particular focus will be on the consciousness from the unconscious in the creative process of this author. There is an implicit presence of Freud’s lectures in Vargas Llosa’s early production, but my analysis will also touch upon the problem of the unconsciousness of the unconscious, primarily in two short stories from the book Los jefes: “El hermano menor” and “El abuelo”.
