Texte intégralThis thesis is concerned with the mathematical study of nonlinear partial differential equations. Precisely, we have investigated a class of nonlinear elliptic and parabolic problems with singular coefficients. This lack of regularity involves some difficulties which prevent the straight-orward application of classical methods of nonlinear analysis based on compactness results. In the proofs of the main results, we show how to overcome these difficulties. Precisely we adapt some well-known techniques together with the use of new methods. In this framework, an important step is to estimate accurately the solutions in order to apply the weak comparison principle, to use the regularity theory of parabolic and elliptic equations and to develop in a new context the analytic theory of global bifurcation. The thesis presents two independent parts. 1- In the first part (corresponding to Chapter I), we are interested by a nonlinear and singular parabolic equation involving the p-Laplacian operator. We established for this problem that for any non-negative initial datum chosen in a certain Lebeque space, there exists a local positive weak solution. For that we use some a priori bounds based on logarithmic Sobolev inequalities to get ultracontractivity of the associated semi-group. Additionaly, for a range of values of the singular coefficient, we prove the uniqueness of the solution and further regularity results. 2- In the second part (corresponding to Chapters II, III and IV of the thesis), we are concerned with the study of global bifurcation problems involving singular nonlinearities. We establish the existence of a piecewise analytic global path of solutions to these problems. For that we use crucially the analytic bifurcation theory introduced by Dancer (described in Chapter II of the thesis). In the frame of a class of semilinear elliptic problems involving a critical nonlinearity in two dimensions, we further prove that the piecewise analytic path of solutions admits asymptotically a singular solution (i.e. an unbounded solution), whose Morse index is infinite. As a consequence, this path admits a countable infinitely many “turning points” where the Morse index is increasing

Texte intégralA detailed theoretical and numerical investigation of the behaviour of reactive systems under the influence of chaotic stirring is presented. These systems exhibit stationary solutions arising from the balance between chaotic advection and diffusion. Excessive stirring of such systems results in the termination of the reaction via a saddle-node bifurcation. The solution behaviour of these systems is analytically described using a recently developed nonperturbative, non-asymptotic variational method. This method involves fitting appropriate parameterised test functions to the solution, and also allows us to describe the bifurcations of these systems. This method is tested against numerical results obtained using a reduced one-dimensional reaction-advection-diffusion model. Four one- and two-component reactive systems with multiple homogeneous steady-states are analysed, namely autocatalytic, bistable, excitable and combustion systems. In addition to the generic stirring-induced saddle-node bifurcation, a rich and complex bifurcation scenario is observed in the excitable system. This includes a previously unreported region of bistability characterised by a hysteresis loop, a supercritical Hopf bifurcation and a saddle-node bifurcation arising from propagation failure. Results obtained with the nonperturbative method provide a good description of the bifurcations and solution behaviour in the various regimes of these chaotically stirred reaction-diffusion systems.

Como aplicação desta teoria analisamos o problema de operação ótima em sistemas de potência. Novas restrições são derivadas desta teoria que, incluídas às restrições tradicionais de um fluxo de potência ótimo, garantem a estabilidade do ponto de operação obtido.
This work aims at studying bufurcation theory associated to non-linear differential equations systems with application on stability of electrical power systems. As an application of this theory, the problem of optimal operation in power systems is analyzed. New restriction to optimum power flow are found and together with traditional ones, assure the stability of the operation point.

Texte intégralOne of the most investigated problems in the qualitative theory of dynamical systems in the plane is the XVI Hilberts problem which deals with limit cycles. More precisely, the second part of the problem asks about the maximum number of limit cycles of a polynomial differential system of degree n. A limit cycle is a single closed orbit on the set of all periodic orbits of a differential planar system. The Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations is applied to the phaselock problems, and the several parameters space regions are associated to the expected attractors.
Three basic cases are studied:
- Autonomous Second Order Phaselock Loop Accidental Frequency Modulation on Second Orer Phaselock Loop Autonomous Third Order Phaselock Loop
In case i), using classical results of dynamical systems theory, the equilibrium points and limit cycles are analyses.
In case ii), the Melnikov technique gives some criteria for chaotic attractors.

Texte intégralNous décrivons ensuite géométriquement à partir d'un système Hamiltonien presque intégrable à trois degrés de liberté à deux paramètres dû à Chirikov, un mécanisme de diffusion mettant en jeu un réseau de plans résonnants parallèles et voisins et un plan résonnant transversal au réseau. Ainsi, nous montrons qu'en dessous d'un certain seuil atteint par le paramètre prépondérant, on peut construire une orbite de transition dérivant en action à travers ce réseau modulationnel. Un des scénarii envisagés, le mécanisme de diffusion modulationnelle, basé sur l'existence de connexions hétéroclines entre tores partiellement hyperboliques issus de deux plans résonnants distincts est valide lorsqu'une condition de chevauchement est vérifiée.
Nous étudions enfin le modèle bidimensionnel décrivant un écoulement laminaire avec convection mixte entre deux plaques planes puis dans un tube vertical. Avec des conditions aux bords réduites, nous montrons via le théorème de la variété centrale qu'il existe dans le premier cas une bifurcation de pitchfork pour une valeur critique du nombre de Rayleigh.

Neste trabalho, estudaremos o conjunto de equil brios relativos n~ao-colineares do problema de quatro corpos no plano complexo. Veremos que esse conjunto e uma subvariedade estrati cada maximal de certa variedade alg ebrica real e provaremos a unicidade do vetor massa normalizado associado a cada ponto dessa subvariedade. Por meio de transforma c~oes de regulariza c~ao, reduziremos a teoria de bifurca c~oes de equil brios relativos ao estudo de uma correspond^encia alg ebrica entre variedades reais. Atrav es dos teoremas de nitude para variedades alg ebricas reais, provaremos que existe uma cota para o n umero de classes de equil brios relativos n~ao-colineares v alida para todas as massas positivas no complementar de um subconjunto alg ebrico pr oprio no espa co das massas.
In this work, we study the set of non-collinear relative equilibria in the fourbody problem in the complex plane. We will see that this set is a maximal strati ed submanifold in a real algebraic variety and prove the uniqueness of the normalized vector mass associated with each point of this submanifold. By means of regularization transformations, we reduce the bifurcation theory to the study of an algebraic correspondence between real varieties. Through the theorems of niteness for real algebraic varieties, we prove that there is an upper bound for the number of a ne classes of non-collinear relative equilibria which holds for all positive masses in the complement of a proper, algebraic subset of all masses.

Texte intégralIn this dissertation, we are concerned with the study of some non-linear evolution models arising in fluid mechanics. We distinguish three independent parts. The first part of the thesis deals with the existence of the rotating vortex patches (called also V-states) for an inviscid quasi-geostrophic model. Our study is divided into two chapters dealing with different topological structures of the V-states. In the first chapter we study the simply connected case and we prove the existence of such structures in a neighborhood of the Rankine vortices by using the bifurcation theory. In the second chapter we discuss the doubly connected case where the patches admit only one hole. More precisely, close to a given annulus we describe this family by countable branches bifurcating from this annulus at some explicit angular velocities related to Bessel functions of the first kind. Our theoretical study was completed by numerical simulations on the limiting V-states and a number of interesting numerical observation were formulated opening new research perspectives. The second part of the thesis concerns the local well-posedness theory for the inviscid Boussinesq system with rough initial data. The problem is in some sense critical due to some terms involving Riesz transforms in the vorticity-density formulation. We give a positive answer for a special sub-class of Yudovich data including smooth and singular vortex patches. In the last part we address the problem of the incompressible limit for the 2D isentropic fluids associated to ill-prepared initial data and for which the vortices are not necessarily bounded and belong to some weighted BMO spaces. We mainly use two ingredients: On one hand, the Strichartz estimates to control the acoustic part and prove that it does not contribute for low Mach number. On the other hand, we use the transport compressible structure of the vorticity and we establish a linear propagation estimate in the spirit of a recent work of Bernicot and Keraani conducted in the incompressible case. Texte intégralWe developed a cellular cardiac electrical activity model which is less complex, without affecting the essential characteristics (action potential, principal ionic currents, restitution curve). Besides, we used the same model’s structure in order to represent the electrical activity of various types of cardiac cells. This will allow the determining of cardiac regions in a parametric manner and will make easier the parametric identification in the numerical models of heart. Otherwise, the bifurcation analysis allowed us to determine the origin of oscillator regime in the pacemaker case, and to introduce a background calcium current that plays the role of a control input of the autonomic nervous system that allows him to modify the heart rate. On the other hand, it is not possible any more to simplify the model using singular perturbations method because it is not any more a Tikhonov's system. The model allows the implementation of the closed loop taking into account the control of the cardiovascular system by the baroreflex and the excitation-contraction coupling taking into account the effect of the frequency on the contractility. After having shown the non-existence of periodic solutions in the reduced two ionic currents model of Mitchell-Schaeffer, we introduced a variant of this last and thus we have extended its excitability properties. The oscillator regime is obtained, either through a sub or super critical Hopf bifurcation, or through a saddle-node bifurcation on invariant circle. This reduced model is usable in ECG signal processing applications

Texte intégralIn this work, we employ topological methods in order to study existence and multiplicity of solutions, of nonlinear boundary value problems of the fourth order. More precisely, we make use of results on connected components of fixed points, as well as global bifurcation, to show existence and multiplicity of weak solutions of Partial Differential Equations, involving the Biharmonic operator under Navier boundary conditions. Proofs of the abstract results used, are presented in detail.
Neste trabalho, utilizamos métodos topológicos para estudar existência e multiplicidade de soluções de Problemas de Contorno Elípticos Não Lineares de 4a ordem. Mais precisamente, utilizamos resultados sobre componentes conexas de pontos fixos e tambem bifurcação global, para provar existência e multiplicidade de soluções fracas de Equações Diferenciais Parciais, envolvendo o Operador Binarmônico, sob condições de fronteira de Navier. As demonstrações dos resultados abstratos que utilizamos, são apresentadas em detalhes.

In this work we will show that, given a piecewise smooth vector field, we can apply the regularization method and, from it, via blow-up, turn it into a singular perturbation problem. By doing that, we can use the tools from singular perturbation theory to perform a qualitative study of piecewise smooth vector fields. Finally, we will show that, through successive changes of coordinates, a singularity of a discontinuous submanifold of codimension k, where k=1 or k=2, can be transformed into a singularity of codimension 0 in order to study the qualitative behavior in this submanifold, where the Filippov’s convention holds.
Neste trabalho mostraremos que, dado um campo de vetores suaves por partes, podemos aplicar o método de regularização e, a partir deste, via “blow-up”, o transformamos em um problema de perturbação singular. Podemos, dessa forma, fazer uso das ferramentas da teoria de perturbação singular para realizar um estudo qualitativo dos campos de vetores suaves por partes. Por último, mostraremos que através de sucessivas mudanças de coordenadas podemos transformar uma singularidade de uma subvariedade de descontinuidade de codimensão k, onde k=1 ou k=2, em uma uma singularidade de codimensão 0 e estudar o comportamento qualitativo ao longo desta subvariedade, onde é válida a convenção de Filippov.
