Since its foundation, in 1998, the University of Milano-Bicocca has been pursuing the objective to make its structures sustainable from an environmental, social and economic point of view. To this end, in 2015 the University of Milano-Bicocca created BASE (Bicocca Ambiente Società Economia - Bicocca Environment Society Economy), an internal office aimed at promoting the interaction between research and training and at stimulating sustainability both within the University and outside. BASE proposes a holistic approach to sustainability including energy efficiency, waste reduction, sustainable mobility, climate change attention and water and food supply. The report will focus on the interventions recently carried out in the various fields, paying particular attention to the issues of waste management and of mobility.

AbstractSeven radiocarbon laboratories: Åbo/Aarhus, CIRCE, CIRCe, ETHZ, Poznań, RICH, and Milano-Bicocca performed separation of carbonaceous fractions suitable for 14C dating of four mortar samples selected for the MOrtar Dating Inter-comparison Study (MODIS). In addition, optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) analyses were completed by Milano-Bicocca and IRAMAT-CRP2A Bordeaux. Each laboratory performed separation according to laboratory protocol. Results of this first intercomparison show that even though consistent 14C ages were obtained by different laboratories, two mortars yielded ages different than expected from the archaeological context.

This contribution focuses on an experience of e-learning Web 2.0 realized at the University of Milano-Bicocca (Milano, Italy) in the 2011-2012 Academic Year. In this experience the authors used Thinktag Smart, a new e-learning Web 2.0 platform, to train 137 students of the University of Milano-Bicocca. All participants had done e-learning before and had an Internet connection in their homes. At the end of the experience the authors evaluated the learning experience and the learning platform using an evaluative questionnaire given to the students who took part in the experience. After an introduction to Web 2.0 and e-learning 2.0, this paper will deal with this learning experience and its results.

ABSTRACTThis work shows the results of optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) and radiocarbon (14C) dating applied to mortars of historical structures in northern Italy. All the results are compared with archaeological evidence and thermoluminescence (TL) dating of bricks. The main issue for OSL mortar dating is that the quartz grains contained in the mortar may be only partially bleached, leading to an overestimation of the sample age. In order to identify the best protocol to apply, both multi-grain (MG) and single grain (SG) methods were used. The minimum age model (MAM) statistical approach was applied to refine their accuracy. However, the identification of the bleached grains is not always successful, indicating that further investigations are needed to develop suitable dating protocol. For the 14C technique, a crucial aspect is the selection of anthropogenic calcite. In this work the mortars were treated using a Cryosonic method to select anthropogenic calcite from raw material, and the obtained powder was sieved to select the finer fraction. Unfortunately, only in two cases an acceptable amount of sample could be obtained. All the fractions were dated via accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS), and the results compared with independently obtained dates. The results show that the execution of the dating analysis requires previous characterizations to assess the nature of the mortar components and avoid unusable fractions.

Universities are today seen as living labs for the creation of knowledge with the aim of transferring it to society. The integration of sustainability is a critical point in this context, as solutions for problems experienced in society can be experimented with regarding physical aspects, such as Solid Waste Management (SWM), and efficiency in energy and water use, but also social aspects such as accessibility, equality, and inclusion. This paper explores the implementation of similar SWM projects in two European universities, Milan-Bicocca University and Instituto Superior Técnico from Lisbon University. Milan-Bicocca was the pioneer project that followed an ambitious model that demanded the removal of all isolated waste bins from inside the offices and rooms, replacing them with waste collection islands in the public spaces. This meant a very coordinated procedure and communication plan, and inspired the pilot project in Instituto Superior Técnico, currently in the expansion phase. This paper describes the implementation of each model and their specificities, and a roadmap is proposed that resulted from the interactions, meetings, and discussions between the two teams, Italian and Portuguese.

Sin lugar a dudas, una de las causas fundamentales de la crisis educativa actual es la ausencia de un correcto conocimiento filosófico sobre qué es el hombre y en qué consiste su formación integral. En la obra que aquí presentamos, el profesor argentino Mauricio Bicocca aborda tal problemática sobre la base de la enseñanza del prestigioso filósofo español Antonio Millán-Puelles.
El libro de marras contiene un estudio preliminar que da el marco teóricometodológico desde donde el autor concibe e interpreta las nociones de persona humana y de formación. Asimismo, el escrito posee nueve breves pero vigorosos capítulos en los cuales se expone de modo claro y preciso cada temática tratada. Dichos apartados son: “El pensamiento filosófico-educativo de A. Millán-Puelles” (cap. 1), “Naturaleza humana y educación” (cap. 2), “La subjetividad de la persona humana” (cap. 3), “Elementos justificantes de la educación humana” (cap. 4), “La libertad humana” (cap. 5), “La filosofía de la educación de A. Millán-Puelles” (cap. 6), “La formación de la personalidad humana” (cap. 7), “La sociedad y la formación de la persona humana” (cap. 8), “El ideal educativo y la formación humanista” (cap. 9).
De las distintas secciones recién mencionadas, son de destacar la sexta y la séptima, las cuales abordan con fino orden los aportes del catedrático español a la filosofía de la educación. Aquí haremos especial referencia a la sexta. En ella Bicocca sostiene que Millán-Puelles, sobre la base de la doctrina de Aristóteles y de Tomás de Aquino, posee una teoría propia de la educación. Explica el autor:
se puede afirmar que hay ciertos elementos de la cuestión educativa que en el pensamiento de Santo Tomás no han sido suficientemente explicitados y desarrollados. Esta situación es la que hace posible que Millán-Puelles pueda profundizar en las cuestiones pedagógicas y hacer ciertos aportes originales en clave pedagógica. (p. 138)
En este sentido, Bicocca muestra cómo el escritor peninsular caracteriza las diferentes acepciones de la voz educatio, la cual está presente en los textos del Aquinate, pero en un sentido muy amplio y ambiguo, que Millán-Puelles se ocupa de precisar y clarificar.
Otra noción cardinal en la filosofía de la educación del pensador español es la de formación. Según Bicocca, para dicho filósofo no hay inconvenientes en designar la educación con el término formación. Así, el autor estima que dicha identificación proviene de la tradición filosófico-pedagógica alemana, a partir de la cual el catedrático español nutre en parte su pensamiento educativo. En esta tradición, los términos Bildung y bilden significan expresamente formación en sentido pedagógico, a saber: educar, formar, modelar educativamente. Bicocca, apoyado en los estudios de M. Rebok, sostiene que
el origen de la Bildung se remonta a la mística tardomedieval y, más en concreto, a Meister Eckhart: este vincula la teología de la imago Dei con la doctrina neoplatónica de la emanación y reintegración, junto con el concepto latino de forma. Supone una actividad de Dios, que consiste en revelarse formando el alma del hombre y el hacer presente a Dios como aporte humano. (p. 146)
El autor da pruebas suficientes de que esta integración del pensamiento educativo alemán a una tradición filosófico-educativa clásico-realista ha producido, en la filosofía de la educación del catedrático peninsular, que el término formación adquiera una significación decididamente pedagógica. Este hecho abre un horizonte de sentido particularmente original y valioso para dicha noción, horizonte semántico que se puede apreciar a lo largo de la obra aquí reseñada.
En la totalidad del libro es de destacar el rigor intelectual con que Bicocca aborda cada tópico, no solo por la correcta exégesis que hace de los textos del agudo y prolífico pensador español, sino también por la forma diáfana en que los ofrece al lector, lo cual se agradece de modo especial. Esto deja ver la sólida formación filosófica del profesor argentino. Evidentemente, el autor posee un conocimiento riguroso del pensamiento clásico, lo cual le ha posibilitado afrontar y ordenar desde una mirada educativa el pensamiento de un escritor de la talla especulativa de Millán-Puelles. Otro mérito de la presente obra es que el autor enriquece la lectura de los textos de Millán-Puelles con otros estudios específicos sobre el pensador español y con bibliografía actualizada y sumamente pertinente al tema tratado en el libro.
En suma, y frente a las reiteradas acusaciones de obsolescencia de la filosofía clásica realista ante las dificultades y necesidades actuales, creemos que la obra del Dr. Mauricio Bicocca se convierte en un aporte de notorio valor a la hora de entender y dar respuesta a la crisis educativa actual, mediante la originalidad y las derivaciones educativas de la filosofía de la educación de A. Millán-Puelles que nos presenta. Filosofía de la educación que, en última instancia, se asienta en las obras de Aristóteles y Tomás de Aquino, dos de los más encumbrados pensadores clásicos. Por ser clásicos, su pensamiento es atemporal y siempre auténtico. Y como acertadamente señaló Ítalo Calvino: “Un clásico es una obra que suscita un incesante polvillo de discursos críticos, pero que la obra se sacude continuamente de encima”. Esto se vuelve patente en el libro reseñado.

This paper investigates the relationships between cultural activities/investments and urban transformation processes, with reference to the transformation of the Bicocca district in the metropolitan core of Milan. Bicocca has experienced a radical change in its social, economic and environmental profile as a consequence of the transition from a heavily industrial development model to a characteristically post-industrial one. This case study offers an instructive example for the understanding of how intangible resources determine transitional modes and outcomes of urban transformation, and in particular of the leading role of cultural investment in the shaping of the local network of knowledge production and circulation, sociality and identity. The paper stresses the need to strike a careful balance between the physical and intangible components of cultural initiatives—i.e. between activities and investment in facilities (cultural `software' and `hardware' respectively). Whereas the latter provide relatively immediate benefits in terms of economic impact and of endowment of usable physical capital, it is equally necessary to pursue carefully selected programmes of initiatives that involve and challenge the local community at various levels, fostering a social attitude based on intrinsic motivation rather than on instrumental opportunism. Without proper, supporting `social software', massive investment in new cultural facilities may assume a dysfunctional `cosmetic' character that is likely to exacerbate the critical aspects of urban transformation rather than tempering them.

- The study of organizational health state is often the first step of the process of organizational change in order to improve personnel' functionality and well-being. In this paper we want to develop some remarks arisen from a research about organizational health among technical and administrative personnel of the University of Milano- Bicocca. We assessed (by web) all university personnel (N = 717) with Multidimensional Organizational Health Questionnaire (MOHQ). Besides the profile of Organizational Health, this research shows the crucial role of some aspects of process, such as purchaser definition and management, negotiating of methodology and results description.

She is the author of many papers on themes of the political geography of Indonesia, and the editor of the volume Geografia e geopolitica dell'estremo Oriente (UTET, 2000). Professor dell'Agnese is a member of Senas, the network of research centers on Asia from Southern Europe.

Abstract The LAMBDA, Laboratory of Milano Bicocca University for Dating and Archaeometry, has a forty-years experience started with the first thermoluminescence dating activities in Italy in the early eighties. Soon after, other dating techniques (Optically Stimulated Luminescence, OSL, Radiocarbon, Dendrochronology and recently Rehydroxylation) have been studied and dedicated laboratories have been set up, where the physical basis of the techniques are constantly under investigation, mainly for what concerns the role of defects in quartz in the luminescence processes. LAMBDA covers other prominent archaeometry fields such as dating of mortars by OSL and Radiocarbon, surface dating of bricks and rehydroxylation dating. In this paper we will present the recent results in dating field focusing on mortar and surface dating. Furthermore, the results of a recent dating campaign to rediscover ancient Milan will be presented.

Developments in information and communication technologies have raised the issue of the intergenerational digital divide that can take place between “digital natives” and “digital immigrants”. Despite emphatic claims concerning how educational systems must take into account the specific characteristics of “digital natives”, sound empirical research on these topics is lacking, especially for Europe. This paper presents the results of research performed during the course of 2008, studying how university students in Italy use digital technologies. The research is based on a survey of 1086 undergraduate students at the University of Milan-Bicocca, complemented by focus groups and in-depth interviews. The results of our research show that, even if university students are familiar with digital technologies, the general possession of high level skills in accessing and using the Internet should not be taken for granted.

The evaluation of professionals involved in Adult Education staff has a crucial role in order to guarantee the quality of Adult Education (AE). EduEval is a project of the LLP Grundtvig Programme, coordinated by University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy (http://www.edueval.eu/), established with the main objective of redefining the professional profile of the evaluator of Adult Education staff. In this framework, six partners from five European countries work with a collaborative approach. The project offers a new methodology in the field of AE that arises from the importance of a cooperation between practitioners of the AE staff and academic researchers. The paper focuses on the pilot course designed by University of Bari to create a curriculum for the initial training of the professionals involved in the evaluation of AE staff.

This paper presents and discusses data on the use of technology in general and of Web 2.0 platforms and services in particular by students at the University of Milano-Bicocca. The data was obtained from a survey on media consumption habits and usage of new web technologies conducted by the university's Observatory on New Media, NuMediaBiOs. Research of this kind provides a valuable basis for the development, adaptation and improvement of existing services and offerings involving new technologies in educational contexts, given that for new technologies to be successfully integrated it is critical to have access to detailed information about how they are currently deployed by users (in this case, undergraduate students on basic degree programmes). Such analyses have implications for a range of contexts, not least for the public educational institution in which they are carried out, namely the university.

After more than a year of blockade due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was finally possible to return to the events in the presence. The 26th National Conference of the Italian Optometric Association (SOPTI) was held in Bologna on October 10–11, 2021. The theme of the conference was “Good practice in Optometry and Contact Lenses”, with the accent on two topics: the optometric management of the patient in old age and the progression of myopia. Face recognition is a vastly researched topic in the field of computer vision. A lot of work have been done for facial recognition in two dimensions and three dimensions. The amount of work done with face recognition invariant of image processing attacks is very limited. This paper presents a total of three classes of image processing attacks on face recognition system, namely image enhancement attacks, geometric attacks and the image noise attacks. The well-known machine learning techniques have been used to train and test the face recognition system using two different databases namely Bosphorus Database and University of Milano Bicocca three-dimensional (3D) Face Database (UMBDB). Three classes of classification models, namely discriminant analysis, support vector machine and k-nearest neighbor along with ensemble techniques have been implemented. The significance of machine learning techniques has been mentioned. The visual verification has been done with multiple image processing attacks.

Dans cet article, je m’interroge sur le rôle de l’anthropologue dans le cadre d’une recherche « chez soi » (« a casa ») au travers d’exemples ethnographiques qui illustrent la façon dont mes interlocuteurs et moi avons construit de manière polyphonique les discours sur la mémoire ouvrière du quartier Bicocca à Milan – lieu où se trouve à la fois l’Université où je me suis formé et le terrain de mon enquête. Dans les pages qui suivent, je montre le rôle central du temps, et plus spécifiquement celui de l’appartenance à des générations sociales différentes dans la construction d’une altérité au sein d’une proximité spatiale. Dans un premier temps, je dresse un portrait de l’histoire récente du quartier, dans la mesure où les transformations dont il a été l’objet sont fondamentales pour comprendre sa mémoire sociale. Dans un deuxième temps, je décris les dispositifs de co-construction du passé de cette aire « post-industrielle » en montrant les limites, les difficultés de communication et de transmission de savoirs entre générations différentes.

Knowledge sharing is particularly important for co-creating, discussing, or acquiring innovative ideas. Crowdsourcing, as an enabler of open innovation, has raised the question about the kind of organising forms and/or managerial interventions it may require or underpin. However, there is little consensus in management studies on how to best design a crowdsourcing initiative (contest) with regard to the mechanisms to engage an online community. In this paper, starting from an exploratory case study on the project “Stati Generali della Formazione e del Lavoro” (General Assembly on Training and Work)—a crowdsourcing experience designed for a large community of professional trainers, planned and managed by University of Milano-Bicocca and AIF Academy (Associazione Italiana Formatori), a broad representative association of Italian trainers—we study the factors influencing the decision of the participants (a.k.a., solvers) to become involved (and to what extent) in a contest. The study could contribute to the debate on crowdsourcing by both underlining important governance factors involved and providing empirical evidence of the link between management strategies and crowdsourcing success.

Abstract The 2010 UNPD’s Assessment of Development Results defined the Maldives “a vulnerable Small Island Developing State” by pointing out the influence of both external and local human factors on their fragile ecosystems. This impact is deeply related to a main geographical feature: the high dispersion of land mass and population, both of them spread over a distance of 860 km. Above all, this dispersion has an effect on two environmental issues: energy distribution and solid waste management. The latter is particularly interesting for the geographical analysis of Small Island Countries. Due to centre-periphery distance and cost benefits analysis, in the Maldives public and private actors have developed different solid waste management models: central and regional waste management dumpsites, hybrid systems implemented by resorts and “informal” practices still followed by local communities. In this paper, we discuss these systems stressing on the relevance of combining infrastructural measures with “informal” practices at local level. Furthermore, we report the outcomes of The Right Place, a participatory waste management action carried out by MaRHE Center (a Milano- Bicocca Research Center) in Faafu Magoodhoo Island.

Negli ultimi due anni, la pandemia ha obbligato docenti e studenti ad adeguarsi a una nuova forma di didattica a distanza anche a livello universitario. Il contributo muove dall’esperienza nella Scuola di Economia dell’Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, dove l’inglese è la prima lingua obbligatoria, mentre il tedesco viene offerto in alternativa al francese e allo spagnolo. Insegnare una materia la cui caratteristica principale è la comunicazione in un contesto che per la sua stessa natura pone dei forti limiti all’interazione in quanto i partecipanti (sia docenti che studenti) rimangono fisicamente lontani fra di loro, presenta delle notevoli sfide. Attraverso esempi emersi nell’aula virtuale vengono esaminati i problemi riscontrati e le soluzioni sperimentate in diciotto mesi di didattica soltanto da remoto. L’analisi degli aspetti critici e degli elementi positivi emersi da questa esperienza porta a riflettere su alcuni concetti basilari dell’apprendimento autonomo e, di conseguenza, sul ruolo dei docenti e dei discenti. L’obiettivo è di esaminare le modalità con cui integrare tali concetti in un ambiente istituzionale quale l’università, per formulare proposte concrete per lo studio del tedesco sia a distanza che in presenza dopo il rientro (forse anche solo parziale) nell’aula reale.

We present a study on teacher education and, in particular, on Physics. Our assumption is that General Didactics and Disciplinary Didactic constitute two fundamental components of teachers’ professional development and therefore both must be used to interpret didactic phenomena adequately. This research involves a sample of 274 prospective teachers, enrolled in the Primary Education Sciences degrees in three Italian Universities (Milano Bicocca, Udine, Urbino,). It concerns the study of the spontaneous representations produced by students to foster understanding of the force concept and on the reasons given to motivate their effectiveness on an educational level and disciplinary one. The research tools and methods were developed by crossing the literature of General Didactics and Physics Education, identifying analytical categories that emerge from two different and complementary perspectives. In the broad spectrum of students’ conceptions, given by this double perspective, some aspects stand out: most of the representations do not include the representation of the forces at play, but rather imply a precise didactic approach inherent to the concept of force. This is confirmed by the analysis of the didactic and disciplinary motivations, in which a frequent identification of the two types of motivations emerges.

The call for further research on service sustainability at all levels has been increasingly stated within the past years. However, limited research has been conducted with regard to the macro level, in which services are inevitably influenced by social, cultural, economic and technological factors. This paper develops an ecosystem approach within the service context to design a service not only from a micro level (e.g., service experience, service encounters), but also from a social level in order to help businesses and public sectors to transform the relationship among individual, collective, social, and environmental systems and increase service sustainability. Then, it applies the developed Service Ecosystem Design (SED) model in a Career Counselling Service (CCS) in the University of Milano-Bicocca (Unimib) in order to demonstrate the usefulness of this model. The empirical data were collected from service providers to illustrate the current service system maps and from first-year undergraduates to understand their perceptions and expectations on campus CCS. The results show that the Unimib CCS is a research-oriented career service and the fundamental service improvements should focus on designing the peer counselling, follow-up, pre-service, a holistic online platform, law education, technology education, optional course, hands-on experiences and student activities.

According to the 2021 World Drug Report, around 275 million people use drugs of abuse, and 36 million people suffer from addiction, fostering a thriving market for illicit substances. In Italy, 30,083 people were reported to the Judicial Authority for offenses in violation of the Italian Law D.P.R. 309/1990. These offences are sentenced after a qualitative–quantitative analysis of seized materials. Given the large quantity of seized drugs and the need to perform accurate analytical determinations, Italian forensic laboratories struggle to complete analyses in a short time, delaying the entire reporting process needed to achieve sentencing. For this purpose, an UHPLC-MS/MS-based platform was developed at the University of Milano-Bicocca to support law-enforcement authorities. Software was designed to easily manage street seizure acquisition, documentation registration, and sampling. A sensitive UHPLC-MS/MS method was fully validated for the quantification of the traditional illicit substances (cocaine, heroin, 6-MAM, morphine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, MDMA, ketamine, GHB, GBL, LSD, trans-∆9-THC, and THCA) at the ppb level. The final report is relayed to the Prefecture in 3–4 days, even within 24 h for urgent requests. The platform allows for semi-automatic data handling to minimize erroneous results for an accurate report generation by standardized procedures.

Introduction: COVID-19 restrictions introduced several changes in university academic and social experience. Self-isolation and online teaching have amplified students’ mental health vulnerability. Thus, we aimed to explore feelings and perspectives about the impact of the pandemic on mental health, comparing students from Italy and the UK. Methods: Data were collected from the qualitative portion of “the CAMPUS study”, longitudinally assessing mental health of students at the University of Milano-Bicocca (Italy) and the University of Surrey (UK). We conducted in-depth interviews and thematically analysed the transcripts. Results: The explanatory model was developed from four themes identified across 33 interviews: anxiety exacerbated by COVID-19; putative mechanisms leading to poor mental health; the most vulnerable subgroups; and coping strategies. Generalised and social anxiety resulted from COVID-19 restrictions by being associated with loneliness, excessive time online, unhealthy management of time and space and poor communication with the university. Freshers, international students, and people on the extremes of the introversion/extroversion spectrum, were identified as vulnerable, while effective coping strategies included taking advantage of free time, connection with family and mental health support. The impact of COVID-19 was mostly related to academic issues by students from Italy, whereas to the drastic loss of social connectedness by the UK sample. Conclusions: Mental health support for students has an essential role, and measures that encourage communication and social connectedness are likely to be beneficial.

Those constraints risked to jeopardized the mental health and subjective wellbeing (SWB) of individuals.ObjectivesThe present cross-sectional quantitative study explored whether and to what extent psychological and social aspects were determinants of parental SWB as outcome variable during the COVID-19 lockdown.MethodsThe sample was composed of 304 Italian parents (93% female, mean age 41.5, 91% from Lombardy). Data were gathered through Computer Assisted Web Interview (CAWI) four weeks after the beginning of the national lockdown. World Health Organization (WHO) wellbeing scale along with other self-reported measures of social support, feelings of abandonment, feeling of being equipped and adequacy of living spaces were administered. Data were analyzed by hierarchical regression models (Ethics Committee of Milano-Bicocca University approval N.0034537/20)ResultsAccording to the WHO cutoff score, 37.7% of parents reported low well-being levels. The regression model (F=11.2, p<.001) suggested that the feeling of abandonment and the feeling of being equipped were the most important contributors to SWB. Other statistically significant (but with lower effect sizes) variables were the support received by the partner and the adequacy of living spaces.ConclusionsThe findings bear out the pivotal importance of subjective states (such as feelings of abandonment or perceptions of being poorly equipped) in relation to the levels of parental SWB during the COVID-19 lockdown. Implications for planning psychological interventions aimed at strengthening personal resources to face the emergency are discussed.DisclosureNo significant relationships.

IntroductionMulticentre preclinical randomised controlled trials (pRCT) are emerging as a necessary step to confirm efficacy and improve translation into the clinic. The aim of this project is to perform two multicentre pRCTs (one in rats and one in mice) to investigate the efficacy of remote ischaemic conditioning (RIC) in an experimental model of severe ischaemic stroke.Methods and analysisSeven research laboratories within the Italian Stroke Organization (ISO) Basic Science network will participate in the study. Transient endovascular occlusion of the proximal right middle cerebral artery will be performed in two species (rats and mice) and in both sexes. Animals will be randomised to receive RIC by transient surgical occlusion of the right femoral artery, or sham surgery, after reperfusion. Blinded outcome assessment will be performed for dichotomised functional neuroscore (primary endpoint) and infarct volume (secondary endpoint) at 48 hours. A sample size of 80 animals per species will yield 82% power to detect a significant difference of 30% in the primary outcome in both pRCTs. Analyses will be performed in a blind status and according to an intention-to-treat paradigm. The results of this study will provide robust, translationally oriented, high-quality evidence on the efficacy of RIC in multiple species of rodents with large ischaemic stroke.Ethics and disseminationThis is approved by the Animal Welfare Regulatory Body of the University of Milano Bicocca, under project license from the Italian Ministry of Health. Mediterranean rhodolith beds are priority marine benthic habitats for the European Community, because of their relevance as biodiversity hotspots and their role in the carbonate budget. Presently, Mediterranean rhodolith beds typically occur within the range of 30–75 m of water depth, generally located around islands and capes, on flat or gently sloping areas. In the framework of a collaboration between the University of Milano-Bicocca and the Marine Protected Area “Capo Carbonara” (Sardinia, Italy), video explorations and sampling collections in three selected sites revealed the occurrence of a well developed and heterogeneous rhodolith bed. This bed covers an area >41 km2 around the cape, with live coverage ranging between 6.50 and 55.25%. Rhodoliths showed interesting morphostructural differences. They are small compact pralines at the Serpentara Island, associated with gravelly sand, or bigger boxwork at the Santa Caterina shoal associated with sand, whereas branches are reported mostly in the Is Piscadeddus shoal, associated with muddy sand. Both in the Santa Caterina shoal and the Serpentara Island, rhodoliths generally show a spheroidal shape, associated with a mean value of currents of 4.3 and 7.3 cm/s, respectively, up to a maximum of 17.7 cm/s at Serpentara, whereas in the Is Piscadeddus shoal rhodolith shape is variable and current velocity is significantly lower. The different hydrodynamic regime, with a constant current directed SW, which deviates around the cape towards E, is responsible for such morphostructural heterogeneity, with the site of the Serpentara Island being the most exposed to a constant unidirectional and strong current. We can associate current velocity with specific rhodolith morphotypes. The morphostructural definition of the heterogeneity of rhodoliths across large beds must be considered for appropriate management policies.

The phylogenetic status of the alpine land snail Fruticicola biconica has remained questionable since it was described by Eder in 1917. Considered a microendemic species from mountain tops in Central Switzerland, the shell is specially adapted for life under stones. Herein, we show via molecular and anatomical investigations that F. biconica neither belongs to the land snail genus Trochulus, nor to any other genus within Trochulini, but rather warrants placement within the newly established genus Raeticella Kneubühler, Baggenstos & Neubert, 2022. Phylogenetic analyses reveal that R. biconica is clearly separated from Trochulus. These findings are supported by morphological investigations of the shell and genitalia.

La publicación XXVIII, número 2, de revista Persona y Sociedad, al igual que los números anteriores, concentra estudios e investigaciones sobre las siguientes disciplinas de las ciencias sociales: filosofía política, teoría sociológica, sociología política, ciencia política, vinculadas a casos correspondientes de la sociedad civil y a la construcción e implementación legislativa. Esta edición tiene un especial contenido sobre las realidades sociales y políticas de la región latinoamericana, siempre enfrentada a procesos de transformación y ajustes en el nuevo escenario de la 'sociedad mundial'.
El primer artículo que abre esta publicación es de Felipe Mansilla, cuyo título es "La naturaleza conservadora de las concepciones antioccidentalistas. Observaciones incómodas sobre un tema actual". Para este análisis, el Tercer Mundo -y en especial mención la región latinoamericana- es el propósito de este ensayo, que indaga sobre el impacto y la divulgación que han tenido las ideas de pensadores como Walter Benjamin y Carl Schmitt entre los adherentes de las doctrinas de la subalternidad y la descolonización en el continente latinoamericano.
El segundo artículo de esta publicación analiza el actual posicionamiento teórico de Habermas en relación con su reconocimiento del importante lugar que ocupa la religión en el espacio público-político. Su autor, Santiago Prono, considera que este espacio de modelación tiene consecuencias incluso en el concepto mismo de sociedad civil, logrando la participación de ciudadanos religiosos en el marco conceptual de la política deliberativa.
Miriam Kriger y Juan Dukuen encabezan la tercera investigación, en la cual estudian las disposiciones políticas de jóvenes estudiantes argentinos de clase alta de Buenos Aires durante los años 2011 y 2013. La estructura de este análisis se basa en la perspectiva bourdieuana en diálogo con la psicología cultural, cuyo foco es el estudio de la intervención del pensamiento político y el juicio moral en la formación de disposiciones políticas de este grupo social.
En cuarto lugar, el artículo "Bolivia: lucha indígena hacia las autonomías", de María Fernanda Herrera, realiza un análisis crítico del presente boliviano con respecto a la consecución de derechos y autonomías territoriales. Aun cuando el año 2009 fue un momento clave para la articulación de movimientos sociales y originarios en dicho país, al punto de llegar a establecer un Estado plurinacional, la Nueva Constitución limita su construcción debido a las normativas institucionales de la misma.
Finalmente, la publicación de Lucía Salazar titulada "Reconociendo el feminicidio. La exigencia en sociedad y la legislación ecuatoriana", pone el acento en el último proceso legislativo que se ha llevado a cabo en Ecuador desde la aprobación del Código Integral Penal. Desde una visión crítica, la autora considera los debates existentes en legisladores, jurisconsultos y en la sociedad ecuatoriana en general.
Este número cuenta además con dos breves reseñas. En primer lugar, Ceferino Muñoz reseña La persona humana y su formación en Antonio Millán-Puelles, de Mauricio Bicocca, cuyo eje principal aborda la formación individual y social de la persona humana. La segunda reseña la realiza Miguel González Vallejos sobre el texto Indagación cristiana en los márgenes. Un clamor latinoamericano, con prólogo de Antonio Bentué, de Diego lrarrázaval. Aquí el autor invita a reflexionar sobre la siguiente premisa: "el acontecer ordinario y el contacto entre personas y culturas diferentes permiten descubrir voces y silencios de Dios. Esto conlleva tomar distancia de idolatrías contemporáneas".
