Résumé :
Abstract This article examines the meaning and the development of the terms used to introduce baraitot transmitted by amoraim in the Bavli: “Tannei Rav X.” Why are these baraitot not introduced with the more usual terms used for citing a baraita, “tanya” and “tannu rabbanan?” I will argue that the term “tannei Rav X” was created in the generations that followed the named amora, as an alternative to the usual citation formula employed by the sage himself when he first quoted the baraita. A sage later to Rav X (or the “stam”) who wished to refer to a baraita quoted earlier by Rav X, used the term “tannei Rav X” to do so. These baraitot (around 80%) have parallels in tannaitic compositions or in the Yerushalmi. This finding bears additional weight on the question of the origins of the terminology used to quote baraitot in the Bavli.

Résumé :
Abstract The Fifth Passover Cup is mentioned in a textual variant of a baraita in Tractate Pesaḥim of the Babylonian Talmud (118a), attributed to Rabbi Ṭarfon and another anonymous Palestinian tanna. Scholars have demonstrated that the variant is primary in talmudic manuscripts and among the Babylonian Geonim. Following a nineteenth-century proposition of Isaac Baer Levinsohn, it is argued that the fifth cup was instituted in Babylonia due to concern for magical evil spirits aroused by even-numbered events [zugot]. Objections to Levinsohn’s theory can be allayed by critical source analysis: the Talmud’s attribution of the fifth cup to the Palestinian tanna Rabbi Ṭarfon in a baraita is pseudoepigraphic, based upon Rabbi Ṭarfon’s teaching regarding the recitation of Hallel ha-Gadol in Mishnah Ta‘anit 3:9. A special appendix is devoted to Levinsohn’s separate study on zugot in the ancient and medieval world.

Résumé :
It has long been a truism that the Tosefta serves as a major source of tannaitic material for both Talmuds. One corollary of this view is that the toseftan versions of baraitot (hereafter, “toseftan baraitot”)1 are, barring the usual vagaries of transmissional difficulties, closer to the original tannaitic texts than those found in the Yerushalmi, and certainly the Bavli.Linguistically speaking, this understanding of the place of the Tosefta in early rabbinic literature underlies the assignment (without much analysis!) of the Tosefta, along with the Mishnah, to the earlier stratum of Middle Hebrew (= Mishnaic Hebrew), mhe1 (= Middle Hebrew A).

Résumé :
Earlier scholars typically considered the tannaitic traditions transmitted by Amoraim in the two Talmuds to be later amoraic (largely Babylonian) creations. This supposition was based on a range of formalistic considerations: the introductory terms, the attitude of the Amoraim to their halakhic content, and the lack of parallels in tannaitic literature. A study of the approximately 140 baraitot introduced by the term “a Tanna taught in front of so-and-so” offers substantial critique of this supposition, which was often based on incorrect a priori assumptions or on faulty interpretations of sources. Assessment of the nature and origins of the halakhic content of these so-called “amoraic baraitot” requires thorough analysis of the halakhic traditions found in this collection and their comparison with parallels in Palestinian tannaitic literature.

Résumé :
In my The Death of the Messiah, preparatory to examining the Gospel accounts of the trial/interrogation of Jesus by the chief priest(s) and San-hedrin, I surveyed the extra-Gospel evidence for authoritative Jewish involvement in the death of Jesus, derived from Jewish, Christian, and pagan sources. From the Jewish evidence I discussed two items: the witness of Josephus (Ant. 18.3.3; #63–t) and a baraita from TalBab Sanhedrin 43a which I quoted from the London Soncino translation (Nezikin volume 3.281):On the eve of Passover Yeshu was hanged. For forty days before the execution took place, a herald went forth and cried, ‘He is going forth to be stoned because he has practised sorcery and enticed Israel to apostacy. Anyone who can say anything in his favour, let him come forward and plead on his behalf.’ But since nothing was brought forward in his favour he was hanged on the eve of Passover.

Résumé :
A baraita cited in both the Palestinian and the Babylonian Talmud (pKetubot 12:3, 34d-35a = pKil'aim 9:4, 32a-b; bKetubot 103a-b) describes Rabbi's dying testament to his sons. In the Babylonian version, Rabbi designates his elder son, Gamaliel, as his successor, and his younger son, Shimeon, as the next hakham. In its analysis of this part of the testament, the BT interprets Rabbi's declaration, which begins, curiously, with the younger son and the lesser position, as concessive: although the younger son is wise, the elder shall be the patriarch. In the continuation of this discussion, the Talmud manifests its concern over Gamaliel's appointment: Gamaliel does not “fill his forefathers' place in wisdom.” This problem is so great, according to the BT, that it would negate the elder son's claim to the dynastic position were it not that Gamaliel has another quality, “fear of sin,” with respect to which he does, in fact, “fill his forefathers' place.”

Résumé :
AbstractTractate Yebamoth of the Babylonian Talmud contains a long unit devoted to the procedure of conversion (Yeb 46a‐48b). Form analysis of the unit reveals its design as a ‘tractate within a tractate.’ The unit is a collection of discussions on baraitas. It follows various literary conventions, such as placing a full description of the procedure towards the end and concluding with haggadic material and a verse of comfort. A variety of methods are applied in order to identify the unique Babylonian tendencies documented in this unit. Synoptic comparison to tannaitic parallels demonstrates the growing stringency and institutionalization of the rabbinic conversion procedure. A common structural feature of each discussion is the ending with an amoraic statement that reassure the halakhic validation of the stringent views. Stammaitic comments and the overall literary structure of the unit also seem to confirm this tendency. This unit demonstrates Babylonian efforts to further reinforce the boundaries of Jewish identity. The traditions as preserved in this unit show that Babylonian proclivities were gradually attributed to earlier Palestinian authorities. The most prominent example is the institution of the court for conversion. This is a Babylonian construct, systematically presented in places where it is missing in Palestinian rabbinic sources. In our unit it is also attributed to early Palestinain amora’im, and even to a tanna. Not only did the Babylonian sages change the model of conversion from witnessed circumcision (and later immersion) to court controlled procedure, they also projected their innovations onto earlier generations.

Résumé :
Islamic Manuscript of Nusantara has long been the object of research. Center for Research and Development of Religious Literature and Heritage Office for Research and Development and Training began to seriously conserve the manuscript systematically since 2008 until now, among others through the digitalization of religious classical manuscripts. Until 2016, about 2,203 titles of religious manuscripts were successfully digitized from various parts of Indonesia, including the religious manuscripts of West Sumatra. Digitalization activities in this area are not as easy as planned, many obstacles to be faced by the digital team, technical issues and obstacles that arise from the owner of the script itself. The implementation strategy of digitizing manuscript used such as involving manuscripts from MANASSA, SULUAH Padang, IAIN Imam Bonjol Padang, and Andalas Padang University. In fact, there are still many religious manuscripts in West Sumatera that have not been photographed until 2016. Due to limited quotas, the manuscripts that are digitized are only 45 manuscripts, coming from three regions: 1) Pauh Kambar Hilir, Nan Sabaris, Padang Pariaman; 2) Batu Baraia, Saturday Feed, Luhak, Fifty Koto; 3) Kasiak, Koto Sani, Sumani, Solok. This community-owned manuscript contains among others tauhid, tafseer, fiqh, mujarabat, falakiyah, nahwu-naraf knowledge, and tasawuf. One of the most important recommendations of the digitalization team is: "intensive coordination and collaboration is needed in order to save the manuscript, because if done separately, the conservation effort of the manuscript will not run optimally. Keywords: exploration, digitizing, religious manuscripts, West Sumatra, Minangkabau Naskah klasik (manuskrip) keislaman Nusantara sudah lama menyita perhatian para peneliti dari dalam maupun luar negeri.

The Baraila Lake plays an important role in conservation of the plant and animal species in Vaishali, Bihar, India. Since, water quality of this Lake is utilized for different human purposes, complete periodic chemical and physical quality assessment of its water seems necessary. Water quality assessment was calculated using the following parameters:- Water Temperature, PH, Turbidity, Dissolved Oxygen, Chloride, Alkalinity, Phosphate, Nitrate, Ammonia, Fluoride, Sulphate, Chemical Oxygen Demand , Biological Oxygen Demand, TDS, TC and FC. There is no such spatial variation in concentration of water quality observed during the study period. The correlation matrix shows that the micronutrient and macronutrient concentration is negatively correlated with alkaline nature of Baraila Lake. The lake manager needs to study the monitoring of water quality parameters of Baraila Lake on seasonal basis.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT Human encroachment, urban and agricultural expansion, frequent droughts, eutrophication, infestation of weeds, and overexploitation of resources has predominantly impacted the water quality and biodiversity of the Baraila wetland. The present seasonal study has aimed to explore an under-researched subject of analyzing the water quality of the wetland through multi-metric biomonitoring approaches in 2022. A total of 24 water and benthic samples were collected from the four sampling locations. All the water parameters were within a suitable range to support diverse range of flora and fauna, except total suspended solids (TSS) and nutrient, indicating toward the impact of agricultural expansion in the wetland's area. Out of the 13 identified families of benthic macroinvertebrates, the semi-tolerant family of Viviparidae and Bithyniidae has dominated the wetland, with a relative abundance of 27.04 and 37.77%, respectively, in the comparative seasons. Moreover, the indices used in the study has categorized the wetland under moderately polluted condition. The Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (HCA) analysis has revealed the sensitivity toward organic pollution and habitat preferences has played major role in the species-specific assemblage of benthic community. The Mantel's correlogram further validates that the moderately polluted status of wetland has favored semi-tolerant to tolerant fauna in the wetland.

Résumé :
Literacy plays an important role in socio-economic development. Governmental efforts towards eradication of illiteracy also have borne fruit to a larger extent. In these days of cut throat competition no progress could be made unless the children are educated. The liberate women play an important role in the development of education. The problem of children can’t be solved unless efforts are made simultaneously to solve the women’s education. Relevant to our study, it is found that the villages are situated in hilly area. The settlement pattern indicates that only Rajbari village is agglomerated and another four villages- Baraima, Chotowashiling, Prabdisa and Washibil are dispersed and isolated villages are non-existent. The study indicated that the sample villages are well connected with the district headquarters by public transport system. Progress in educational sphere is noticed at least from the existence of L.P. School in all surveyed villages as well as from the figures of enrolment in the educational institution. The awareness towards educating the children is visibly noticed in case of Dimasa villages of the block. Drop out from the educational institution is still a problem in the villages under study. The study showed that drop out figure among the Dimasa students of illiterate mothers are more than the literate mothers. We have come to know about the impact of many things in socio-economic development of Dimasa people through the survey of Diyungbra Block and it is found that female literacy plays a vital role in this regard. It is seen from the surveyed villages, there is a lot of improvement in various field such as education, transportation and economy etc. as compared within some decades.
