Résumé :
We study an experiment in which we determine unknown measurements of p objects in n weighing operations according to the model of the chemical balance weighing design. We determine a design which is D‑optimal. For the construction of the D‑optimal design, we use the incidence matrices of balance incomplete block designs, balanced bipartite weighing designs and ternary balanced block designs. We give some optimality conditions determining the relationships between the parameters of a D‑optimal design and we present a series of parameters of such designs. Based on these parameters, we will be able to set down D‑optimal designs in classes in which it was impossible so far.

Résumé :
Several authors have obtained variance balanced (VB) and ternary variance balanced ( V B) designs using balanced incomplete block (BIB) designs and group divisible (GD) designs. In the present investigation, another systematic methods have been developed for the construction of VB designs using A Triangular PBIB design and an incomplete block design where the blocks of the incomplete block design are formed by taking the second associate treatments of the given triangular PBIB design. Two Triangular PBIB designs. The methods of construction of VB designs are further illustrated by examples.

Résumé :
Gasification processes incorporate many reactions that are fairly complex to analyse making their design difficult. In this chapter it is shown that general gasification systems are limited by consideration of mass and energy balances only. Here, a ternary Carbon-Hydrogen-Oxygen diagram is developed to represent gasification processes. The diagram incorporates basic chemistry and thermodynamics to define a region in which gasification occurs. The techniques are further validated from data obtained from pilot or laboratory experiments available in literature. In this chapter we develop graphical representation for sawdust gasification and underground coal gasification (UCG), a clean coal technology. The methods described allow for further analysis without considerations to thermodynamic equilibrium, reactor kinetics, reactor design and operation. This analysis is thus an indispensable tool for flowsheet development using gasification and an excellent tool for practitioners to rapidly understand gasification processes.

Résumé :
Abstract Partially dynamically equivalent link concept has been used for partial shaking force balancing of the slider-crank mechanisms of engines for a long time. The article offers methods of forming complete dynamically equivalent link (CDEL) for floating binary, ternary, and quaternary links by which a mechanism can be completely balanced eliminating shaking force and shaking moment. Developments and applications are simple. Four-bar and slider-crank mechanisms, Walt’s and Stephenson’s type six-bar mechanisms and some eight-bar mechanisms are completely balanced to illustrate different forms of CDEL in different mechanisms. CDEL uses auxiliary masses and mass moments of inertia on a floating link. The use of the auxiliary masses is illustrated in numerical examples. A Watt’s type body guiding six-bar mechanism interacting with a robot is completely balanced in an application example.

Résumé :
The Molten Salt Reactor (MSR), which is one of the ‘Generation IV’ concepts, can be used for production of electricity, actinide burning, production of hydrogen, and production of fissile fuels. In this paper, a single-liquid-fueled MSR was selected for conceptual research. For this MSR, a ternary system of 15%LiF-58%NaF-27%BeF2 was proposed as the reactor fuel solvent, coolant and also moderator with ca. 1 mol% UF4 dissolving in it, which circulates through the whole primary loop accompanying fission reaction only in the core. The fuel salt flow makes the MSR different from the conventional reactors using solid fissile materials, and makes the neutronics and thermal-hydraulic coupled strongly, which plays the important role in the research of reactor safety analysis. Therefore, it’s necessary to study the coupling of neutronics and thermal-hydraulic. The theoretical models of neutronics and thermal-hydraulics under steady condition were conducted and calculated by numerical method in this paper. The neutronics model consists of two group neutron diffusion equations for fast and thermal neutron fluxes, and balance equations for six-group delayed neutron precursors considering flow effect. The thermal-hydraulic model was founded on the base of the fundamental conservation laws: the mass, momentum and energy conservation equations. These two models were coupled through the temperature and heat source. The spatial discretization of the above models is based on the finite volume method (FVM), and the thermal-hydraulic equations are computed by SIMPLER algorithm with domain extension method on the staggered grid system. The distribution of neutron fluxes, the distribution of the temperature and velocity and the distribution of the delayed neutron precursors in the core were obtained. The numerical calculated results show that, the fuel salt flow has little effect to the distribution of fast and thermal neutron fluxes and effective multiplication factor; however, it affects the distribution of the delayed neutron precursors significantly, especially long-lived one. In addition, it could be found that the delayed neutron precursors influence the neutronics slightly under the steady condition, and the flow could remove the heat generated by the neutron reactions easily to ensure the reactor safe. The obtained results serve some valuable information for the research and design of this new generation reactor.
