Crisis communicators and journalists need stable structures to handle social media content in emergencies, but struggle with information overload. The usability of a tool intended to support information gathering was investigated by conducting two usability tests (low- and high-fidelity prototypes) with journalists. The aims were to investigate how well the design reflected users' general mental models of emergency work, and how it responded to the specific requirements set by work in high-stress surroundings. Tests were conducted in a laboratory. Participants understood the main prototype concepts, but struggled with time-consuming tasks, for instance, those related to saving content or evaluating information quality. To provide good situation awareness - and to fit in with user expectations - a system should gather information from several social media outlets and allow for varying possible user modes. However, system designers need to carefully balance between including necessary features and avoiding tasks that require complex manual actions.

Children account for the greatest proportion of casualties from hazard impacts, especially in developing countries where they comprise the largest percentage of total population. This disproportionate vulnerability of children has recently been the focus of various United Nations initiatives for disaster risk reduction and is increasingly being the focus of local and national measures to reduce the impacts of hazards. The overarching focus of these childrenspecific measures has been the promotion of disaster education to enhance the level of awareness among school-age children. However, this new trust toward the disaster awareness among children presents a new challenge for disaster planners, especially as this relates to the development of appropriate tools and techniques for the enhancement of the disaster knowledge base of children. Specifically, disaster management planners are challenged in ensuring not only that the information provided is appropriate to the information-assimilation capacity of children but also that the appropriate tools and techniques are developed to ensure effective conveyance of information through a medium that is neither stoic nor boring. The disaster awareness game presented in this article was designed with these challenges in mind and is intended to evaluate and promote disaster awareness in children. Preliminary results suggest that the tool is effective in meeting this objective.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has had a considerable influence on our daily lives by enabling enhanced connection of devices, systems, and services that extends beyond machine-to-machine interactions and encompasses a wide range of protocols, domains, and applications. However, despite privacy concerns shown by IoT users, little has been done to reduce and protect individual information exposure. It is extremely difficult to mitigate IoT devices from reidentification threats which is why it is still a major challenge for IoT users to securely protect their information. The trust controls how we regulate privacy in our IoT platforms in the same way that it governs personal relationships. As IoT devices become increasingly linked, more data is shared across individuals, businesses, governments, and ecosystems. Technologies, sensors, machines, data, and cloud connections all rely largely on trust relationships that have been formed. With the rapid growth of additional types of IoT devices that are being introduced, it, therefore, expands privacy concerns and is difficult to develop trust with an IoT system or device without the option to regulate information privacy settings. Privacy has always been a barrier for many devices as they race for the early adoption of IoT technologies. Several Internet of Things devices or systems will continue to pose privacy threats. As a result, the main objective of this study was to examine the individual understanding of privacy and to promote information privacy protection awareness not only to IoT users but also to organizations that use IoT devices or platforms to run their day-to-day business operations. Furthermore, the objective extends to compare user knowledge and concerns about IoT privacy, as well as to identify any common attitudes and variances. However, in terms of enhancing individuals’ knowledge, an artifact was developed to educate and enhance information privacy awareness among IoT users. A pre- and postquestionnaire was generated to test and validate user knowledge regarding information privacy protection in IoT. The study was conducted using a quantitative research method. Findings indicate that IoT users’ awareness of information privacy protection turned out to be average, suggesting a need for education and awareness. Several participants stated that information privacy protection awareness is required within the community to educate, raise awareness, eliminate human error, and enable individuals to be conscious of their privacy when surfing the Internet.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the effectiveness of a targeted email advertising method that informs university students about library resources relevant to their major.Design/methodology/approachOver the course of one semester, students with business and communications majors who reserved group study rooms received customized confirmation emails that included targeted advertisements for library databases. These advertisements invited students to click a link that led to a database related to a student's major. Near the end of the semester, students were invited to complete a short survey about the advertisements. Survey questions were designed to discover whether the advertisements were seen and to measure database relevancy. The survey also gathered participant perceptions about the value of this targeted awareness advertising approach.FindingsOverall, the technique of appending database advertisements to reservation emails proved ineffective; very few students recalled seeing the advertisements or clicking the links. On the positive side, this study showed that very few of the survey respondents disapproved of receiving advertisements. Another positive result was that a majority indicated the selected library databases were relevant to their needs. Respondents also offered suggestions for improving this marketing technique.Originality/valueThis research introduces a novel, unobtrusive approach to advertising library resources to a targeted audience. The results can be used by library administrators as a starting point for experimenting with similar (yet improved) methods of sharing information about relevant library resources with specific user populations.

Water conservation is making journal headlines nationwide because of drought, contamination, pollution, and over development. While the idea of xeriscaping began in the Western United States where landscapes can be truly dry, many water-saving principles apply to the Southeast, where home moisture problems and pest problems associated with moisture are a major problem. A year of drought maybe followed by three years of plentiful rainfall, and conditions are significantly different from the semi-arid regions of the country to which most of the present literature on water conservation is directed.The purpose of this project was to provide information on water conservation to designers, landscape industry personnel, and homeowners in the Southeast. This was done by compiling recommendations based on research being conducted by professionals in building science, forestry, horticulture, entomology and landscape architecture.An educational tool addressing the pressing national problem of water conservation with a regional emphasis, this project was designed to help readers increase landscape water efficiency by 30 to 50% while lowering maintenance costs and insuring greater survivability of landscape plants in times of water shortage. Through careful planning and design, economically attractive and aesthetically sound water conserving landscapes can be created.

The purpose of this article was to evaluate the quality of online autism spectrum disorders (ASD) websites and to outline the gap in the current Arabic websites in terms of promoting awareness and supporting parents of children with ASD. A search was performed using the Arabic keywords that is equivalent of autism and parenting a child with ASD, through Arabic language search engines and websites. The findings reveal that Arabic online information concerned the ASD lacks the quality supportive advocate information concerns the ASD. The results highlighted a gap in the Arabic websites that supports parents of children with ASD. There is a need to improve the quality of online ASD Arabic information that promoting awareness and supporting parents.

Documents are a fundamental player in professional practices. Since the introduction of computer-based systems, an ever increasing number of organizations considered the full transition to digital documents in order to manage the exponential amount of information that they generate with their activities. However, this "imposed" transition has not been painless: usually the employees work together to reach a common goal, and during time they develop and constantly maintain some unwritten conventions with the aim to support them in performing their collaborative activities. Several field studies demonstrated that in these work settings documents are a fundamental part of these conventions, highlighting at the same time the problems that arose after the transition to a document-based system. Actually, the flexibility of paper-based documents is lost with the transitions to digital documents, since employees can not autonomously adapt both the informative content and the arrangement of their digital documents. Consequently, the limits of document-based systems hinder their acceptance among employees, with the risk of nullifying the advantages that the organization management expected with the transition to digital documents.
In order to avoid this kind of problems, collaborative systems should be conceived to not force users to change their work habits, and in particular these systems should provide users with (i) a flexible support for their work practices, taking into account the existence of local and informal conventions and proactively promoting "collaboration awareness" among users, and (ii) a customizable environment that they can autonomously adapt to their actual and constantly evolving needs. These two requirements are at the basis of the work that is presented in this thesis, which focuses on document-based collaborative systems.
In order to meet such requirements in the design of this kind of applications, this work puts its roots in both the Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) and End-User Development (EUD) research fields. In particular, the aim of the presented research work is to give a contribution to the design and implementation of technologies supportive of cooperative work that allow users to autonomously tailor their document-based systems to their needs with the flexibility of paper-based documents. More specifically, tailoring activities must not only involve the flexible definition of the informative content of documents, even if this possibility does not have to be considered trivial; rather, users must be autonomous in performing those tailoring activities that allow them to customize their systems to support the local conventions of the group in which they work. Putting in the hands of users the ability to customize systems they use every day strongly contributes in making the transition from paper-based documents to digital documents less painful, with positive effects on work practices of users. Moreover, leveraging the possibility to autonomously customize systems to support local conventions, users can also be supported in the improvement of their work habits, through a collaborative learning process.

This dissertation investigates a dimension of risk, opening a space for reflection about the situations that involve the Municipal Fire and Emergency Department of Santarem Ribeirinho Region. Considering the importance of their role and the nature and conditions faced while performing their duty, in conjunction with how they are perceived in the community, the organization has a duty of care to the protect it’s workers enabling them to progress socially and professionally. To inform sensitively, to encourage and promote awareness of positive thought are the main objectives, alongside setting out the values and duties based on the policies and procedures that support these professionals that direct them towards positive action, hence improving and enhancing their quality of life, allowing social change within existing resources. Given the sensitive nature of the study, based upon qualitative analysis certifying itself quantitatively, it concludes that policies and procedures protect workers guaranteeing their security inclusive of health and safety, however organisationally they should also motivate individuals for better performance including learning and personal development that results in improved team dynamics, job satisfaction and better outcomes within the framework of a modern society.

This study aimed to investigate the usefulness of promoting primary students’ phonemic awareness through phonics instruction with information technology, as well as to assess their viewpoints and attitude toward such instruction. The subjects were 124 third graders in Wu-Jha elementary school in Tainan County. They were divided into two groups: the control group and the experimental group. This study was conducted from March 1, 2003 to June 27, 2003, and adopted a quasi-experimental design to collect the research data. The conclusions of the findings were showed as follows. 1. Phonics teaching with information technology promoted the phonemic awareness of the primary students more effectively, especially in the performance of the oral phonemic awareness tasks. 2. Integrating information technology into phonics instruction did not significantly contribute to the latent effect on learning letter-sound relationship. 3. Integrating information technology into phonics instruction did not significantly facilitate the spelling tasks. 4. The primary students’ English achievement and spelling ability were related to their phonemic awareness. 5. The subjects showed positive attitudes toward phonics instruction with information technology. According to the conclusions, the author makes the following suggestions: 1. For English instruction in primary schools, information technology needs to be integrated into phonics instruction or even into English teaching. 2. Phonics instruction should lead the students to the point of phonics skills that did not focus on learning words. 3. To combine different phonics method, to prolong the study period, to use or incorporate different media technologies on different grade levels could be taken into consideration for developing a more effective teaching and learning mode in further studies.

Banks rely heavily on information security (IS) by preserving confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information. A key layer for ensuring information security is the employees, who need to be aware of possible information security issues and behave accordingly. Banks introduce information security policies (ISP) to establish required rules for IS behavior and implement information security awareness (ISA) programs, which are systematically planned ISA interventions such as structured campaigns using intranet messages or posters to educate employees and enhance their ISA. According to previous conceptual research, the most cost-effective method to prevent IS incidents is fostering ISA.
The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the role of ISA for promoting employees' ISP compliance. The four stages of this dissertation project focus on organizational efforts such as ISA programs to improve employees' compliant IS behavior and identifying predecessors for explaining employees' ISP compliance based on established scientific theories. A developmental mixed methods approach is conducted through these four stages of analysis. Primary data were collected in each stage to investigate banks operating in countries such as Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and Rumania.
In the first research stage, semi-structured expert interviews were conducted with operational risk and IS managers to explore banks' efforts to counteract IS incidents. The considered banks primarily use online methods such as intranet articles and conventional methods such as posters for building ISA. Second, the findings from stage one were incorporated in research stage two, in which a positivistic case study was conducted to test the Theory of Reasoned Action, Neutralization Theory, as well as the Knowledge-Attitude-Behavior model. The data were analyzed by utilizing partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). In addition to several qualitative interviews and an online survey at the headquarters of the case bank, data such as internal ISA materials (e.g., posters or IS intranet messages) were also analyzed. The second research stage provided empirical evidence that ISA program components affect employees' ISA, which further positively affects employees' attitudes and social norms toward compliance with ISPs, but negatively affects the use of neutralization techniques. All of these effects should eventually positively influence IS. This is shown in the chain of subsequent factors. The employees' attitudes and social norms positively affect the intention for compliant IS behavior, which is negatively affected by the use of neutralization techniques. In the third research stage, the influence of employees' perception of ISA programs on the Protection Motivation Theory was examined by conducting an online survey among German bank employees. It is demonstrated that employees' perception of ISA programs positively affects perceived severity as well as their coping mechanisms, which play the most important role in positively affecting the intention for compliant IS behavior. Surprisingly, employees' perception of ISA programs negatively affect perceived vulnerability. Moreover, perceived monitoring has a positive moderation effect on the intention-behavior link. Finally, the fourth research stage consists of a qualitative study to analyze the efforts of IS managers to enhance IS and examine how these efforts are perceived by users. Further, the inductive part of the study uncovers factors that influence the compliant IS behavior of users. Therefore, semi-structured interviews with IS managers were carried out to discover ISA program designs and categorize them according to design recommendations gained from current literature. In addition, this stage shows that individual ISP compliance seems to be connected with individual perceptions centering on IS risks, responsibilities, ISP importance and knowledge, and neutralization behaviors.
To conclude, this dissertation provides several practical as well as theoretical contributions. From an academic perspective, the findings highlight the importance of attitudes, social norms, neutralization techniques, as well as coping mechanisms for employees' intentions to comply with their ISP. Future research might extend the findings by establishing and characterizing IS enhancing social norms and exploring methods of counteracting the common use of neutralization techniques. For practitioners, analysis of the design practices of ISA programs provides a better understanding of effectively using ISA interventions in the context of banks. (author's abstract)

The concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) has been significantly drawing global attention for the past decade. The solving of social, political and economic problems now fully requires the involvement of both the public and private sectors, particularly in the context of developing countries. In Zimbabwe, CSR has mainly been the responsibility of large firms, NGOs and the government. Little has been done to encourage SMEs to take initiative and responsibility on CSR matters, although these SMEs constitute about ninety percent of all economic activities in Zimbabwe. For CSR to be implemented, there is need for access to information. Public libraries are one of the major focal points in the provision of information. These public libraries have vast potential to support CSR initiatives and are capable of partnering with various organisations from different sectors as well. However, when it comes to visibility on CSR, public libraries in Zimbabwe and in other developing countries are almost non-existent. The aim of this study was to investigate the role that public libraries play in promoting CSR to SMEs in Zimbabwe as a means of contributing in shaping policies which ensure that public libraries are more relevant in society through their support of, as well as their involvement in sustainable developmental issues. In order to attain this, the study adopted the interpretive paradigm and the qualitative approach. In addition, the case study design was used, allowing the researcher to obtain detailed information about the Harare City Library in relation to the promotion of CSR to SMEs. The target population for this study included librarians at public libraries in Zimbabwe and the owners or managers of formally registered SMEs in the country. The study revealed that a great number of SMEs have limited knowledge about CSR and do not engage in it. SMEs consider CSR to be mainly philanthropic in nature, as their knowledge does not extend to include other important aspects of the concept. In addition, public libraries are not the major source of CSR information provision to SMEs, although a fair number of SMEs believe that they should be at the forefront. The study recommends that public libraries should reach out to SMEs to promote CSR to them, in addition to marketing the library’s own information resources and services. Public libraries need also to establish strategic alliances with relevant stakeholders as a means of encouraging SMEs to engage in CSR initiatives.Information Science

Recent evidence emphasizes the interconnectedness of different aspects of young children’s development, the variability of development, and the way that it unfolds in the context of the family. This chapter describes the role of primary prevention in promoting child development, particularly the cognitive aspects of child development. Parental awareness about child development is central to any child health programme. Professionals have a key role in providing appropriate information about child development to families and also in mediating what is available on the Internet. This highlights the need for regular monitoring with a common understanding of development across professionals and the use of appropriate outcomes which are meaningful to parents. A range of different interventions have been tested, many with positive results, but effective service delivery needs to be multifaceted and systemic. The outcome of promoting early child development should be seen in terms of improving school readiness, and enhancing children’s well-being.

Prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) requires consideration of the extent to which the social, physical, and fiscal environment facilitates heart-healthy lifestyles. The high-risk strategy for prevention offers major benefits for those with diagnosed CVD and those known to be at increased risk compared with their peers. From a population health perspective strategies to reduce risk in the majority not known to be at high risk have the potential for much greater benefits. Prevention programmes to improve CVD risk in communities should tailor objectives and programme design, including evaluation, to the resources available. Baseline information is required on knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours, as well as risk factors and morbidity, in order to raise awareness of needs, support programmes appropriately, and help reduce inequalities. Responsibility for changing behaviour rests with the individual, but preventive services can provide support, involving partners and family members.

The first edition of Understanding Vineyard Soils has been praised for its comprehensive coverage of soil topics relevant to viticulture. However, the industry is dynamic--new developments are occurring, especially with respect to measuring soil variability, managing soil water, possible effects of climate change, rootstock breeding and selection, monitoring sustainability, and improving grape quality and the "typicity" of wines. All this is embodied in an increased focus on the terroir or "sense of place" of vineyard sites, with greater emphasis being placed on wine quality relative to quantity in an increasingly competitive world market. The promotion of organic and biodynamic practices has raised a general awareness of "soil health", which is often associated with a soil's biology, but which to be properly assessed must be focused on a soil's physical, chemical, and biological properties. This edition of White's influential book presents the latest updates on these and other developments in soil management in vineyards. Methods are proposed for alleviating adverse conditions such as soil acidity, sodicity, compaction, poor drainage, and salinity. The pros and cons of organic viticulture are debated, as are the possible effects of climate change. The author explains how sustainable wine production requires winegrowers to take care of the soil and minimize their impact on the environment. This book is a practical guide for winegrowers and the lay reader who is seeking general information about soils, but who may also wish to pursue in more depth the influence of different soil types on vine performance and wine character.

The 7 years monitoring-conservation-information program in the special B zone of Ieranto bay (belonging to the Marine Protected Area Punta Campanella - Naples, Italy) shows good results in terms of reducing illegal activities (such as illegal fishing, unauthorized boating, pollution and anchoring) and promoting environmental awareness for visitors. This 3-way management model represents one of the best practices of the MPA that could be applied to other MPAs in order to improve the correct usage of a protected area and to decrease/control the illegal actions and protect the environment

AbstractEducational institutions can elevate student perspective and activation so that playful learning is formed by looking for new teaching possibilities. Didactical methods need to provide a safe environment where students can focus on interpersonal interactions with patients while being aware of how their own emotions can influence their situational awareness and decisions. The authors believe that relevant scenarios in a 360-degree video format will be beneficial for nursing students, specifically in preparation for the clinical setting. The potential of 360-degree video in virtual reality (VR) gives the instructor flexibility to create systematic, experiential learning and shapes emotional learning in collaboration with students. 360-Degree video can be seen as a playful way to learn in new situations. Playfulness of this kind can affect teachers and students motivation, as well as the opportunity to promote learning. This field lacks studies exploring the use of 360-degree videos in psychiatric simulation settings. This chapter will provide knowledge about the practical use of 360-degree video in VR, insight into technical potential, as well as challenges. Background information on why this method is suitable for promoting nursing students’ competence in mental health work will be presented. Another function of this chapter is to give an introduction and inspire exploration of 360-degree video in VR in professional education, with particular focus on how this can be used as a tool for nursing students in psychiatric simulation settings, like the VR-SIMI model, which is discussed later in the chapter.

Abstract The human behaviors and interactions on social media have maintained themselves as highly dynamic real-time social systems representing individual social awareness at fine spatial, temporal, and digital resolutions. In this chapter, we introduce the opportunities and challenges that human dynamics-centered social media bring to Digital Earth. We review the information diffusion of social media, the multi-faced implications of social media, and some real-world cases. Social media, on one hand, has facilitated the prediction of human dynamics in a wide spectrum of aspects, including public health, emergency response, decision making, and social equity promotion, and will also bring unintended challenges for Digital Earth, such as rumors and location spoofing on the other. Considering the multifaceted implications, this chapter calls for GIScientists to raise their awareness of the complex impacts of social media, to model the geographies of social media, and to understand ourselves as a unique species living both on the Earth and in Digital Earth.

AbstractThe impact of climate change, especially on agricultural sector, calls for a global and more localized strategies such as cultivation of underutilized indigenous vegetables (UIVs) which adapt better to local climate change. This chapter, therefore, examines the perception of UIVs farmers to climate change, their experiences of UIVs’ responses to climate change, adaptation strategies employed, and the determinants of the decision to adopt them in Southwest Nigeria. The study uses quantitative and qualitative primary household data from 191 UIVs farmers, 8 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and secondary climate data from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency. Descriptive and econometric analyses are employed in the data analyses. The results show that farmers’ perceptions of climate change are high temperature and a high variability in rainfall pattern that has affected the yield, increased insects, pests, and diseases infestations, and reduced soil fertility. The results further show that the responses of UIVs to these resultant effects differ as such, and adaptation strategies farmers adopt are UIVs-specific. The adaptation strategies mostly employed by the UIVs farmers are cultivating UIVs along the river bank and the least is agroforestry and perennial plantation. The determinants of the decision to adopt adaptation strategies include UIVs revenue, age, years of experience, access to climate information, climate change awareness, agro ecological zone, and access to credit. Thus, promotion of UIVs business is advocated and provision of information on climate change essential and will encourage farmers to adopt appropriate climate change adaptation strategies to boost UIVs business.

The study sought to assess the role of information professionals in the provision information about the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa with the views of recommending best practices of disseminating public information. The qualitative approach was utilized to collect data from information officers. The researcher found that the majority of the public were not utilizing the information centre because of lack of awareness of information resource centre preserved by an information resource centre. The review found that information resources were not providing access to information centre effectively due to staff who lack appropriate skills and knowledge on public health awareness. It also appears that inadequate budget allocation to conduct public health awareness was lacking. Public awareness should be conducted in the Mpumalanga Provincial government. The research findings shed new lights on the perspective that information professional plays an essential role in promoting public health awareness.

Doctors and other health workers are in constant need of quality and timely information. To this end, medical/health librarians have critical roles to play. Their major duty is to advance access to available health information resources and services. However, reports abound of low library usage due to inadequate awareness of the availability of most of the information sources and services in medical libraries. Considering the need for the effective delivery of medical library services, the aim of this chapter was to highlight new roles and duties of medical/health librarians. It also discussed some of the skills that are needed by medical/health librarians. The chapter concludes that medical/health librarians must be engaged in newer roles and duties to be able to provide value-added services that will promote awareness and improve medical library use.

Since World War II, the library profession has grown worldwide both extensively and at an impressively rapid rate, resulting in an increase in international librarians and international library associations. Several possible reasons for this growth are emphasized in Baldwin (1997, 392-393): “Our shrinking world has caused increasing awareness of other parts of the world with accompanying demands for access to information from those areas; growth of information and publishing throughout the world; awareness through increased automation of resources in other parts of the world; growth of international business interests in the second half of the twentieth century after the war; more sophisticated users who demand specialized services and increased knowledge of the access to information resources by their librarians.” This chapter focuses on one particular international library association, the Special Libraries Association (SLA), and its role as the outstanding voice for the world’s information professionals. It shows that this association has consistently developed numerous initiatives and programs promoting library professionals worldwide with an emphasis on librarians outside of the United States. Although some SLA programs may no longer be active in the capacity they had when first introduced, their influence has had an impact on many SLA chapters and divisions, inspiring them to continue the practices by adopting similar programs.

As e-government projects proliferate at all levels of government, and as they transition from voluntary to mandatory participation, close examination is required, particularly the examination of security issues. The CIA (confidentiality, integrity, availability) model offers a framework for examining e-government projects. This study examines the factors impacting security, using as a case study an education information system in the 2003-2004 school year. The study focuses on how CIA factors relate to a host of variables, such as school district size, software selection, technology staffing, technical competence and support, awareness of security issues, and project commitment. For the organizations participating in the project, typical factors of district size and software selection are found to be insignificant, and technical support is identified as one of the key factors promoting security.

The constantly growing world population and depleting natural resources make promoting sustainable behavior of paramount importance. Household energy is a significant percent of global energy consumption. While there has been significant work in improving energy awareness, there remains opportunity in designing systems that help direct users toward more sustainable behavior. This is particularly true since user behavior, as influenced by attitudes, beliefs and preferences, is a main driver of the household energy consumption. In this paper, a method is presented to identify and categorize design for sustainable behavior opportunities as failure modes on unnecessary overconsumption. We do this by comparing actual behavior against the minimum necessary to complete the task. Any deviation from the energy minimum is a failure mode opportunity. We clarify when opportunities are suitable for design for sustainable behavior, and when opportunities require stronger intervention of product or process redesign. To do this, user behavior was analyzed in a living laboratory format. Subjects were asked to perform a simple daily cooking activity in two phases; first in their routine manner and subsequently by trying to reduce energy consumption. In addition to recorded data on energy consumed, the users were interviewed on each user activity to understand which activities people were aware of means to reduce energy and in which they were not. The overall results show that all participants were able to reduce their energy consumption significantly when asked to do so, but these energy reducing behaviors were often ignored and not part of their daily routine. Based on this analysis, we identify opportunities where improving energy awareness is the issue, and other opportunities where more difficult sustainable design of the product or the process is needed since users are already aware but choose not to bother with reducing consumption.

Creativity is an influential factor to change the world. With the information explosion and changing the social environment, the development of innovation will increasingly require team interaction in the process of problem solving. The present research was to explore about subjective perception on creativity in relation to personal creativity modes, and to analyze team interaction and the process of problem solving from the perspective of personal creativity modes. We provided team activities promoting self-awareness about creativity mode and idea generation for problem solving, and analyzed team member’s self-description on perceived own personal creative characteristics. The results indicated correspondence between perceived personal creativity characteristics and personal creativity mode identified through Personal Creativity Mode Test (PCMT). Also, the analysis of team interaction and problem solving process reflected some patterns according to diverse personal creativity modes. These findings confirm that people can perceive their own creativity in accordance with the results of a test and that PCMT can be useful in selecting and forming design teams and it helps understanding characteristics of individual members in their team activities. Such understanding could provide a guidance to develop training programs to improve design team creativity.

The application has underlying concerns in the scope of Psychological Health, as an integral part of the Health of the human being, allowing to perceive the user’s state of mind. It is also considered relevant that people have good psychological health so that they can manage their resources in a rational and intelligent way. The agile methodology was behind the development of the project as a process that combines the iterative model and the incremental model. The Healthy Economy application thus contributes to raising awareness of the rational management of financial resources, promoting the Sustainable Development Goals.

Abstract While is it an obvious observation that in the 21st century individuals will need to continue to learn to keep pace with the rapid changes that affect their personal and professional lives, the practicalities of doing so are daunting. Where do we begin to instill a sense of self-directed learning that leads to a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and, more importantly, how? The aim of our study was to determine the influence of providing guided support in the use of social media to a group of future EFL teachers in Chile. In this context, where traditional teaching practices and cultural norms, not to mention resistance to technology adoption often stand in the way of learner agency and evolving self-directed learner identities, we focussed on pre-service teachers as a strategic step in changing these trajectories. Our results were encouraging in that for this group of participants there was evidence of change not only in responsibility for learning but in a metacognitive awareness of ‘how’ to learn – key ingredients in reaching personal and professional potential. We conclude that the use of technology needs to be re-conceptualized as not only an information provider but as a key player in constructing self-directed, lifelong learners. Compared to the way heritage assets are regarded in other developed nations, the Romanian ones are very often poorly managed, left unknown to the very own Romanian people, they are neglected and even damaged. Promoting and taking advantage of the country national heritage assets - be them tangible or intangible, involves first of all a raised awareness; it implies knowing about them and understanding their true meaning. Learning is the key to acquiring knowledge and people are prone to retaining information important to them or information that has a strong sensorial, emotional, cognitive impact upon them. As nowadays learning processes are more and more influenced by the powerful online environment and the complex technology, the sensitive area of heritage may take great benefits from it. National heritage assets bear within themselves historical and cultural information. They are the key to building a strong and proud national identity and a valuable social cohesion, to contributing to a sustainable economical development. As the way of retaining information and learning is changing, augmented reality gives the learner the live experience of the past and makes him aware of the heritage importance and of its true significance in the most appropriate way. The augmented reality technology makes the information more powerful by enhancing its substance with visual, audio and sensorial attributes, building thus a real live experience. The current paper aims to bring in discussion the possibilities of transmitting the knowledge about heritage assets through specific applications of augmented reality, making a particular reference to the educational games that transform learning into an entertaining activity.

The present paper describes the tasks developed along 550 kilometers of PETROBRAS TRANSPORTE South Region right-of-way where there are more than 1000 kilometers of onshore pipelines. This work was based on the company Integrity Management Program, with focus on risk reduction due to third party damage, promoting social accountability and environment preservation. On the Introduction there are presented pipeline failures stats in USA and Europe. It’s visible in the stats that third party damage is one of the most common pipeline failures responsibleness. In the next topics we list the mitigation methods based on the Integrity Management Program that involves risk analysis; inspection plans based on risk; plan check and program audits. On the Detailed Plan we present standards and normal requirement for pipeline integrity; the Company GIS — Geographic Information System — where you find the pipeline data with its position and depth from ground level; the action plan to correct anomalies found during inspections; and the awareness programs performed through the Communication System to answer the solicitations registered at TRANSPETRO Call Center. We also present the social and environment Responsibility Program that includes the Identification of the communities around our right-of-way, the social and environment classification and the projects development to guaranty the installation integrity that contribute to the communities quality life raise. The Communication Plan for the stakeholders is based on API 1162 – Public Awareness Programs for Pipeline Operators. This plan is accomplished by a team of different professionals such as communication and social service professionals and others. They visit Public Officials (City Hall, Civil Defense, Fire Department, Road Police and Public Services Providers), Excavators, land owners and communities with the objective to guide and publicize safe and co-responsible manners to pipeline installations. It’s remarkable the creation of especial projects in the communities along the right-of-way, such as Communitarian vegetable fields, mobile movie theaters and educational effort in high schools. We also present the results from the Integrity Program to prevent third party damage, the improvement promoted and the recommendations to make it better. At the end we present the costs involved in all actions to prevent third party damage by Brazil South Region Pipeline Operator.

• Older adults have complex and unique needs that can influence how and when cancer is diagnosed, the types of treatment that are offered, how well treatment is tolerated and treatment outcomes. • This Evidence Check review identified 41 studies that specifically addressed barriers and enablers to cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment among adults aged 65 years and older. • Question 1: The main barriers for older people at risk of and/or living with cancer to access and participate in timely cancer screening relate to lack of knowledge, fear of cancer, negative beliefs about the consequences of cancer, and hygiene concerns in completing testing. The main enablers to participation in timely cancer screening include positive/helpful beliefs about screening, social influences that encourage participation and knowledge. • Question 2: The main barriers for older people at risk of and/or living with cancer to access and/or seek timely cancer diagnosis relate to lack of knowledge of the signs and symptoms of cancer that are distinct from existing conditions and ageing, healthcare accessibility difficulties, perceived inadequate clinical response from healthcare providers, and harmful patient beliefs about risk factors and signs of cancer. The main enablers to accessing and/or seeking a timely cancer diagnosis include knowledge of the signs and symptoms of cancer, and support from family and friends that encourage help-seeking for symptoms. • Question 3: The main barriers for older people at risk of and/or living with cancer in accessing and completing cancer treatment include discrimination against patients in the form of ageism, lack of knowledge, patient concern about the adverse effects of treatment, predominantly on their independence, healthcare accessibility difficulties including travel and financial burden, and patients’ caring responsibilities. The main enablers to accessing and completing cancer treatment are social support from peers in a similar situation, family and friends, the influence of healthcare providers, and involving patients in treatment decision making. • Implications. The development of strategies to address the inequity of cancer outcomes in people aged 65 years and older in NSW should consider: Increasing community members’ and patients’ knowledge and awareness by providing written information and decision support tools from a trusted source Reducing travel and financial burden by widely disseminating information about existing support schemes and expanding remote patient monitoring and telehealth Improving social support by promoting peer support, and building the support capacity of family carers Addressing ageism by supporting patients in decision making, and disseminating education initiatives about geriatric oncology to healthcare providers Providing interdisciplinary geriatric oncology care by including a geriatrician as part of multidisciplinary teams and/or expanding geriatric oncology clinics.
