Résumé :
A Instantaneous availability modelling method for repair system was introduced. The empirical modeling method was used to the reliability function, and the life distribution selection method was proposed. Then, under the assumption that the maintainability was decreasing with the calendar time, the Fourier function was chosen for the basic fitting functions. Under the original definition of availability for the system, the availability modeling method was proposed. Finally, a case example for the method was given, and the result showed that the method was convenient for availability evaluation.

Résumé :
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose an availability modeling method of complex multiple units system (CMUS) based on the multi-agent technique. Design/methodology/approach Based on the multi-agent technique, this paper describes the availability model structure for CMUS and develops agent-based models of components, maintenance policies, maintenance tools, maintenance fields, and maintenance staff, as well as the communication method among the different agents. On the basis of the agent-based availability modeling theory, the availability simulation scheme of CMUS is given using MATLAB. Thus, the availability modeling theory of CMUS and its simulation method are developed. To demonstrate the applicability of the proposed availability modeling method, a numerical example is given. Findings The proposed agent-based modeling method is applicable to availability modeling of CMUS, including the modeling of component failure, maintenance tools/fields/staff, maintenance policy, and structural/economic dependence among components. Practical implications As a bottom-top, modular, expandable, and reusable modeling theory, the agent-based modeling method might be useful for availability modeling of different CMUSs in reality. Originality/value The multi-agent technique is introduced into availability modeling of multi-component systems in this paper. Thus, it is possible to model failure of many components, maintenance policies, maintenance tools, maintenance fields, and maintenance staff together for availability analysis of complex systems of equipment.

Résumé :
Lighting is a major component of energy consumption in controlled environment agriculture (CEA) operations. Skyscraper farms (multilevel production in buildings with transparent glazing) have been proposed as alternatives to greenhouse or plant factories (opaque warehouses) to increase space-use efficiency while accessing some natural light. However, there are no previous models on natural light availability and distribution in skyscraper farms. This study employed climate-based daylight modeling software and the Typical Meteorological Year (TMY) dataset to investigate the effects of building geometry and context shading on the availability and spatial distribution of natural light in skyscraper farms in Los Angeles (LA) and New York City (NYC). Electric energy consumption for supplemental lighting in 20-storey skyscraper farms to reach a daily light integral target was calculated using simulation results. Natural lighting in our baseline skyscraper farms without surrounding buildings provides 13% and 15% of the light required to meet a target of 17 mol·m−2·day−1. More elongated buildings may meet up to 27% of the lighting requirements with natural light. However, shading from surrounding buildings can reduce available natural light considerably; in the worst case, natural light only supplies 5% of the lighting requirements. Overall, skyscraper farms require between 4 to 11 times more input for lighting than greenhouses per crop canopy area in the same location. We conclude that the accessibility of natural light in skyscraper farms in dense urban settings provides little advantage over plant factories.

Résumé :
The issues about method of resources availability measurement in system integration are discussed. Firstly it analyzes the change of system resource state and discusses the mechanism of transmission of failures based on resource faults. Secondly the method of resource faults-based health measurement, and the representation of classification and formalization for resources in system integration, and the theoretical means of availability metrics of resources and resource platform are provided. The formal representation of the resource structure embodies the managing properties including resource object type, nature and state etc. And it shows the expression for degradation process of resource and events of faults production. That highlights the significance of resource integration to traditional management.

Résumé :
Employers expect to increase the overall organizational flexibility and performance when employees are available to clients, supervisors, or colleagues outside of their regular work. However, when extended availability is not properly organized, it is associated with impaired well-being, which can lower performance. Research has identified design criteria that may increase or decrease the detrimental effects of availability. We assume that the role-modeling behavior of supervisors as important representatives of organizational values is crucial as well. This study investigated the moderating function of supervisory role modeling in the relationship between extended availability for work and well-being. We conducted a study with 258 participants who completed an online questionnaire about their availability demands and their supervisors’ role modelling to address this issue. Additionally, participants indicated their emotional exhaustion, work-family conflict as well as performance. Moderated mediation analyses revealed that high work-life-friendly role modeling attenuated the detrimental indirect effect of extended availability demands on performance via a work-family conflict. Identifying the boundary conditions for extended availability demands offers a more differentiated perspective on its beneficial and/or detrimental nature. The results highlight the necessity to consider supervisors as key figures for interventions for extended availability demands.

Résumé :
Effective water resources management requires assessments of water availability within a framework of complex institutions and infrastructure employed to manage extremely variable stream flow shared by numerous, often competing, water users and diverse types of use. The Water Rights Analysis Package (WRAP) modeling system is fundamental to water allocation and planning in the state of Texas in the United States. Integration of environmental flow standards into both the modeling system and comprehensive statewide water management is a high priority for continuing research and development. The public domain WRAP software and documentation are generalized for application any place in the world. Lessons learned in developing and implementing the modeling system in Texas are relevant worldwide. The modeling system combines: (1) detailed simulation of water right systems, interstate compacts, international treaties, federal/state/local agreements, and operations of storage and conveyance facilities, (2) simulation of river system hydrology, and (3) statistical frequency and reliability analyses. The continually evolving modeling system has been implemented in Texas by a water management community that includes the state legislature, planning and regulatory agencies, river authorities, water districts, cities, industries, engineering consulting firms, and university researchers. The shared modeling system contributes significantly to integration of water allocation, planning, system operations, and research.

Résumé :
This paper presents a new approach to modeling the availability of the networks composed of multiple interconnected rings in two nodes. For availability modeling method algebraic formulation is used. Using this method, through the availability of multiple ring networks consisting of two and three-rings connected to two nodes, a general expression for the availability between two terminals of multiple ring networks is derived. To perform the expression some real assumptions were taken and the analytical calculation showed that the use of these expressions under these assumptions provides real values for availability between the two terminals of multiple ring networks. Information on the availability of links and nodes is taken from previously published works.

Résumé :
The availability of spare parts in a vehicle service workshop needs to be correctly recorded and recorded, making it easier for workshop owners to ensure the complete availability of vehicle spare parts. From the results of the author's observations, the Rizki Prima workshop has several obstacles in recording the availability of spare parts where the business processes being carried out are still a hassle for the employees working in the workshop. The problem often occurs when recording is the incompleteness of data related to incoming and outgoing goods. So the recording made in the ledger needs to be more accurate and requires a relatively long time to search one by one in the register if the workshop owner needs it. As a result of poor recording of goods, it is difficult for the owner to order goods again, worried that duplicating data will record incoming goods. The above problems are the basis for the authors to conduct research by utilizing information systems and modeling with an object-oriented approach using a unified modeling language to design a spare parts inventory information system according to user needs. To provide an overview of the Rizki Prima workshop transforming from conventional spare parts data recording to digital spare parts recording.
