This dissertation assesses, firstly, the importance of the time that parents spend with their adopted children between arrival and schooling and how this affects on the psychological adjustment of the child. Secondly, values the importance of openness in family communication about the child's origins and previous history and the impact that it has on the psychological adjustment of the child. Finally, checks whether the psychological adjustment and openness in family communication are predictable variables of a secure attachment in the internationally adopted adolescent. The results support our hypotheses, concluding that adopted children who spend more time with their parents before schooling have a better psychological adjustment. Same with the openness in family communication: those menors who feel or perceive in their parents an open attitude to discuss issues related to their adoptive history, present a better psychological adjustment than those who perceive difficulties by the parents to talk about his past. Finally, the results also support the hypothesis that openness in family communication and psychological adjustment are predictive variables of a secure attachment in adolescence. These results highlight the importance of establishing a stable and secure bond between child and adoptive parents from the first moment of the child's arrival. Jointly with the open in family communication make it easier for the child to develop a secure attachment with his parents, from which to enter into adulthood with a more solid base.

Texte intégralDoctor of Philosophy
Mental health practitioners who incorporate animal-assisted interventions into clinical practice harness the human-animal bond for therapeutic benefit. According to the Animal-Assisted Therapy in Counseling Competencies, practitioners have a duty to understand the complex relational processes within animal-assisted interventions in counseling (AAI-C). These bonding processes may resemble that of an attachment bond in which the client desires to maintain closeness to the practitioner and therapy animal as a result of feeling safe and secure. Researchers studying attachment in the human-animal bond have stated that attachment processes may occur within other human-animal relationships, such as between a guardian and a companion animal. However, there is no practical research on the attachment processes occurring between humans and therapy animals in AAI-C or how these processes affect the bond between the practitioner and client. A component of the working alliance, maintaining a quality bond, can improve treatment outcomes in counseling. Therefore, the purpose of this quantitative study was to examine how attachment to a therapy animal impacts the attachment bond between a mental health practitioner and client. Participants completed an online survey with four measures to study the following: (a) client attachment to the therapy animal, (b) practitioner attachment to the therapy animal, (c) the bond between the practitioner and client, and (d) the impact of utilizing an animal in counseling sessions. Data analyses included a multiple regression to determine how practitioners’ perceptions of the attachment processes within AAI-C best explain the bond with their clients. Descriptive statistics revealed that practitioners perceived high quality bonding within AAI-C, particularly in their own attachment to the therapy animal. Results of the multiple regression indicated practitioners’ attachment to the therapy animal influenced the working alliance and bond between the practitioner and client. Practitioners who perceived themselves as extremely skilled in working with the clients’ presenting issue also had an effect on the working alliance and bond when compared to practitioners who felt less skilled. Implications for practitioners and counselor educators are provided. Limitations and areas of future research are also discussed.

Texte intégralThe purpose of this study is to gain a greater understanding of some underlying causes of why people commit criminal acts. The general questions of the study are; in what way does the social circle of friends affect the individual’s prerequisites for developing a criminal lifestyle? How can these underlying causes of crime be explained and understood? The questions are answered by semi-structured interviews with five individuals with previous criminal background. With the use of a thematic analysis method the interview material was structured into three themes that have been formulated based on the datasets that have been collected. The analysis is done with the use of previous research and theories of differential association and reinforcements, symbolic interactionism, labeling and social bond. The study shows that the interview participants end up in crime as a result of their growth, school situation and their circle of friends interacted in a negative way. Common to all those interviewed informants is that they had insufficient contact with both parents during childhood. The lack of assurance from the parents was something they instead searched for in their social circle of friends. The informants schooling was consisted of poor school performances, and they often socialized with friends who also misbehaved.

Texte intégralStemming from a questioning initiated in a professional practice of psychosociolog which questioned the place of the animal in autobiographical stories, this research was carried out with the aim of exploring the relationship with the animal within the framework of the educational sciences. To build this focus of research, multidisciplinary theoretical references were mobilized, together with a research process within the clinical framework of psychoanalytic orientation, taking into account the counter transferential process of the investigator. An exploratory pathway has been enriched through the analysis of two clinical interviews. This first step highlights the positive impact of the human-animal attachment in the construction of the psychic identity of the human being. In this research, the notions of attachment and the construction of the relation to knowledge are the key theoretical and clinical concepts, enriched by contributions of W. R Bion and D. W. Winnicott. It is on this basis that was made the choice of the veterinarians as a corpus of this research, as this profession is highly concerned by the relation to the animal. Five semi-directive clinical interviews were carried out with veterinarians practising in liberal exercise, then analysed on the basis of their latent psychological dynamic. The main results show that for these professionals, the link to the animal developed during childhood is at the origin of their career choice. Also, it is this link, evolved through the time, which seems mobilized as a psychic resource to invest and succeed their studies. It also appears that the approach to the knowledge built during their interaction with animals as a child represents a possible resource to better understand the relationship between the owner and his animal during a veterinary consultation. Another result of this research shows that the interest for the animal as a child allows some subjects to develop cognitive capabilities which are mobilisable in ulterior relational and professional skills

Customer relationship management is an important communication tool between company and customers. Past research on customer relationship management is often related to relationship marketing and relationship quality. Less discussion of customer relationship management and relationship bonds. The study is based on company through customer relationship management and relationship bonds, building relationships with customers, and then improving customer loyalty in the process. And rely on brand attachment and emotional attachment as a moderator, exploring the impact of the two on relationship bonds and customer loyalty. The SEM analysis model using AMOS and SPSS hierarchical regression analysis, conduct empirical research. The results of the empirical analysis are as follows: 1.Understanding customer needs and surrounding products has a significant positive impact on financial bonds but has no significant positive impact on social connections and structural bonds. The marketing plan has a significant positive impact on financial bonds, social bonds and structural bonds. Service exposure has no significant positive impact on financial bonds but has a significant positive impact on social bonds and structural bonds. 2.Social bonds has no significant positive impact on attitude loyalty but financial bonds and structural bonds has a significant positive impact on customer loyalty. 3.Brand attachment has only a positive impact on the structural bonds and behavioral loyalty regulation. Emotional attachment has a positive impact on the regulation of structural bonds and attitude loyalty; emotional attachment to structural bonds has a negative interference effect on behavioral loyalty.

Products on the market are getting homogeneous dramatically, homogeneous products are increasing day by day. In this situation, consumers are using brands as the benchmark, which leads to more frequent brand switching. Therefore, how to promote long-term relationship with brands is the biggest challenge facing economic behavior today, and one of the possible solutions is to attach. The purpose of this study is to explore whether there is a correlation between the relationship bonds and the brand attachment between two variables, taking the mobile phone industry as an example. There are two motivations for choosing the mobile phone industry for research purposes. One is everyone has the mobile phone that connects people and objects through mobile phones and enters the Internet of things generation. The other is that the mobile phone industry conforms to the relationship bonds, including the customer's cognition of the financial bonds, social bonds and structural bonds of the products. This study mainly focused on students of the Chinese Culture University, and used the convenience sampling method to distribute the structured questionnaires. A total of 450 questionnaires are collected and 30 valid questionnaires are received after deleting the invalid questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and tests of hypothesis are conducted via SPSS 18.0 with 420 valid questionnaires returned. This study found that the influence of brand attachment is public self-consciousness (control variables), beyond the public after the influence of self-consciousness of brand attachment, relationship was significantly positively related to link to the brand attachment. Finally, according to these findings, practical suggestions are offered to the manager of mobile phone industry.

The concepts of internalized and externalized continuing bonds have been proposed and examined incorporated into bereavement process based on attachment viewpoint. However, the findings of related studies were inconsistent. Therefore, the present thesis study has three objectives. First, it aimed to elucidate the associations of specific attachments and post-bereavement cognitions with the two continuing bonds. Second, the study planned to re-analyze the construct of grief symptoms, and elucidate the associations of continuing bonds with grief related symptoms. Third, the predictive relationships between internalized and externalized continuing bonds as well as the differences of impact between unexpected and expected death on post-bereavement cognitions and grief related symptoms will be explored. The study recruited 176 participants who experienced the loss of beloved other. Participants were asked to complete the questionnaires about bereavement event, specific attachments, post-bereavement cognitions, continuing bonds, grief symptoms, posttraumatic stress symptoms, and depression symptoms. Factor analysis, regression analysis, t-test were performed. Results show: 1) Grief symptoms consisted of two components, i.e., sorrows at deceased and nullification in self. 2) Specific avoidance attachment negatively predicted internalized continuing bond. Concerning post-bereavement cognitions, negative self and negative world cognition positively predicted internalized and externalized continuing bonds, while self-blame cognition positively predicted externalized continuing bond. 3) The relationship between specific anxiety attachment and externalized continuing bond was separately moderated by post-bereavement negative self, negative world or self-blame, while the relationship between specific anxiety attachment and internalized continuing bond was moderated only by self-blame. 4) Both internalized and externalized continuing bonds positively predicted sorrows at deceased grief, nullification in self grief, posttraumatic stress and depression symptoms. 5) Externalized continuing bond mediated the relationship of internalized continuing bond with sorrows at deceased grief, nullification in self grief, posttraumatic stress or depression symptoms, but internalized continuing bond only mediated the relationship between externalized continuing bond and sorrows at deceased grief symptoms. 6) The relationship from internalized to externalized continuing bonds was moderated by specific anxiety attachment or post-bereavement self-blame, but no significant result was noted in the reverse direction. 7) The unexpected death group showed significantly more post-bereavement cognitions and grief related symptoms, compared to the expected death group. Based on above findings, the associations among continuing bonds, specific attachments, post-bereavement cognitions, and grief were discussed, using interactive viewpoint of relationship and cognition, to explore the plausible development of internalized and externalized continuing bonds in response to loss. Finally, applications, clinical implications, limitations and future direction of research were further addressed.

Palavras-
ABSTRACT: This study aims to contribute for the understanding of the relationship between Parental Satisfaction and Parental Bonding in the father figure. No studies were found to date that establish the relationship between the two proposed dimensions, Parental Bonding and Parental Satisfaction, particularly in terms of the masculine father figure. We focused the study on the father figure since its importance is continuously and more importantly recognised and valued in the development of progeny. The study included 155 male participants who were contacted by telephone and voluntarily agreed to answer to the material made available on line. The tools used were far beyond the socio-demographic characterization questionnaire, the Parent Satisfaction Scale (PSS – Parent Satisfaction Scale from Halverson and Duke, 1991, Martins & Leal (2007) and the Parental Bonding Instrument, (PBI – Parental Bonding Instrument from Parker, Tupling and Brown, (1979), Ramos, Leal and Maroco (2006). The following results are emphasized: parents with a professional active life reveal care perceptions and autonomy denial and, the lowest and the highest wage levels influence the burden and the importance of parentality. The perception of psychological autonomy denial has a significant weight in parents without a conjugal situation. Lastly, we confirm that the absence of chronic diseases or serious incapacities reveals parental pleasures, instrumental autonomy and psychological autonomy denial.
Case, Somer LeAnn. « The Ties that Bind : A Secondary Analysis of Family Structure and Attachment Strength on Adolescent Sexual Decision Making ». Thesis, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/1805/2461.
Texte intégralIn sociological literature and in health policies on adolescent sexual behavior, researchers, educators, and policymakers continue to express their concern with the high number of adolescents engaging in an early sexual debut because of pregnancy risk, high rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). In particular, much attention is given to the young age of sexual experiences among Black youth compared to those of other races. However, for Black female adolescents, the experiences and dilemmas they face can be more compelling, because the “Black female experience defies a singular definition” (Rozie-Battle 2002, p. 60). This study will fill a gap in previous literature on sexual decisions among Black teens by moving beyond a discussion of only negative decisions. If attachment and social bond theory are taken into consideration, family instability could weaken attachment and lead to riskier sex by weakening controls on undesirable behavior like condom non-use. These same theories would also pose that weakened attachment between family members and adolescent women can create replacement ties and stronger bonds to a sexual partner, which in turn leads to more sex, but not necessarily riskier sex. Utilizing the Young Women’s Project (YWP) at Indiana University, the present study investigates both of these hypotheses.
