Résumé :
Metastasis in head and neck cancer patients is responsible for over 50% of deaths. There are currently no tools to identify patients at risk of developing metastasis. Circulating tumour cells (CTC) represent a transient cancer cell population in the blood. In this study, the researcher has developed CTC isolation methodologies and used novel culture formulations to expand patient derived CTCs for therapy testing. Furthermore, the researcher identified biomarkers present on CTCs which could select patients for immunotherapies, a current unmet need. This work sets the foundation for a personalized medicine approach to treating head and neck cancer patients.

Mendiola, Casey Alexandra. « He koha aroha ki te whanau : deliberate self harm and Maori whanau ». Thesis, University of Auckland, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/2292/13627.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Deliberate self-harm (DSH) is a significant social problem facing young Māori (the indigenous people of New Zealand) today. Whānau, a concept meaning family and including extended family, is an essential factor in the well-being of Māori. Little is known about family members‟ reactions to a child‟s DSH or their needs following DSH, especially with Māori. Some research with non-Māori suggests that both the impact of DSH and consequent needs of family members may be considerable, yet often neglected. This study examined the impact of their children‟s DSH on Māori whānau, beliefs about the motives for the young person‟s DSH, and needs following the event. The whānau of ten young people, aged 10-18 years, presenting to a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service following DSH were interviewed about the impact of the DSH, perceived motives for DSH and their needs. Five Māori clinicians were also interviewed about these topics. Interviews were recorded, transcribed, and subsequently analyzed using thematic analysis. Seven themes were identified from whānau ideas regarding motives for DSH: to communicate distress and seek help, to punish someone, to get relief from a distressing emotional state, due to the influence of others, as a response to feeling overwhelmed by difficult circumstances, to die, and the cultural influence of matakite. Clinicians presented similar motives; however, they did not mention matakite and included DSH being precipitated by social isolation. When discussing impacts of DSH, whānau reported that DSH had affected the entire whānau as well as having an effect on parents; including an emotional impact, an impact on parenting, and the concept of mental health was described as being difficult for parents to come to terms with. On the other hand, participants reported improvement in relationships within their whānau following DSH. Whānau also reported that DSH had resulted in practical difficulties. Themes derived from clinicians were similar; however, they did not discuss the effect of DSH on relationships. Whānau and clinicians both reported the need for greater levels of support and information. Implications are presented for the delivery of mental health services for young Māori and their families.

Ramirez, Philippe.

Argha is a former principality of the gandaki basin, annexed by Nepal in late xviiith century. The population is mainly indo-Nepalese, being Hindu by religion and divided into a hierarchy of status-groups. Authority and solidarity are based on inter-individual and hierarchical ties, linking, among others, patrons and clients. Local political structures tie up from high-status lineages backed by their clients and taking the form of factions involved in permanent competition. The personal and hierarchical nature of authority prevails right from the domestic and agnatic spheres. The exact limits of the descent units and the process of their development have been scrutinized. An attempt has been made to reconstruct the emergence of today's political organization through simultaneous analyses of historical data, rituals and local elections. Up to 1951, government, particularly at the local level, was based on the delegation of authority along a pyramid of contracts between owners of rights and brokers. Functions pertaining to administration, taxes and justice were not made distinct. Under the new regime, charges are nor granted anymore by the sovereign but allotted through the electoral process. This development had a decisive impact on affiliation mechanisms and, as a consequence, on the political structure of the locality. Old dominant lineages, which legitimacy dated back to the principalities, loose their influence in the context of a global breaking up of former political territories

Ikkurthy, Praveen Chiranjeevi. « Software Testing Testbed for MPEG-4 Video Traffic Over IEEE 802.11b Wireless LANs ». Scholar Commons, 2003. https://scholarcommons.usf.edu/etd/1397.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Several traffic characterization studies have been performed on wireless LANs with the main objective of realizing good and accurate models of the errors in the wireless channel. These models have been extended to model the effect of errors on higher layer protocols, mainly at the data link layer. However, no prior work has been done to study the application level characteristics of MPEG-4 video traffic over 802.11b wireless networks. In this thesis a traffic characterization study of MPEG-4 video traffic over IEEE 802.11b wireless LANs with the main goal of building a tool for software testing is performed. Using two freely available tools to send and receive real-time streams and collect and analyze traces, MPEG-4 encoded video frames are sent over a 11 Mbps, 802.11b wireless LAN to characterize the errors in the channel and the effect of those errors on the quality of the movie. The results of this traffic characterization were modeled using ARTA (Auto Regressive-To-Anything) software. These modeled characteristics were then used to build a tool that generates synthetic traffic emulating real wireless network scenario. The tool emulates the error length and error free length characteristics of the wireless network for the MPEG-4 video traffic using the corresponding modeled characteristics generated by ARTA. The tool can be used by software developers to test their MPEG-4 streaming media applications without the need of the real infrastructure. The tool can also be trained and extended to support testing of any streaming media applications.

Ricciardi, Francesco. « Automatic search of missing people in avalanches ». Master's thesis, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, 2018. http://amslaurea.unibo.it/15282/.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
One of the main source of danger for people practising activities in mountain environments is avalanches. In the early 70s has been commercialized the first model of avalanche beacon transceiver: a device, composed by a transmitter and a receiver, specialized to the purpose of finding people buried under the snow. Since 2013, project SHERPA is working to develop ground and aerial robots to support human in the search of missing people in avalanches. The aim of this dissertation is to provide a way to interface an avalanche beacon receiver (ARTVA) with the autopilot module mounted on a quad-copter drone, and to study and realize a software implementation of two automatic search algorithms, with the intention of speeding up search operations with drones. First we will focus on interfacing the ARTVA system with a quad-copter autopilot module, named Pixhawk. This module embed a software, named PX4, which runs on a real-time operating system (RTOS), and have several connection ports, among which there is the serial one that we will use for our purpose. Then we will analyse how to use the data coming from the ARTVA receiver to construct and implement the two search algorithms. The idea is to generate set-points, based on the information coming from the avalanche beacon receiver, and use them to feed the position controller which is implemented in the PX4 firmware. Finally, we will execute simulations, provide results, and investigate if a practical implementation is possible and what are the relative issues.

AT LOW ALTITUDE WHERE GRAZING LANDS AND FORESTS ARE VERY FEW, ANIMALS ARE FED IN STALLING with THE PRODUCT OF PRIVATE FIELDS. THE INCREASE IN FOOD PRODUCTION IS NECESSARY IN ORDER TO HAVE MORE ANIMALS OF A BETTER QUALITY. THE PRESENT ANIMAL FEEDING STRATEGY HAS EVOLUTED VERY QUICKLY SINCE 50 OR 60 YEARS. ANIMAL HUSBANDRY USED TO BE VERY IMPORTANT AND ON AN EXTENSIVE BASIS, BOTH FOR HIGH CASTS AND FOR MAGAR. IT WAS BASED ON A HUGE COMMON FOREST LAND AFFORDING FOOD FOR THE CATTLE. INCOME WAS PROVIDED BY SELLING BUTTER OR LIVING ANIMALS. AN HUGE DEMOGRAPHIC GROWTH WAS AT THE ORIGIN OF FOREST CLEARING, MIGRATION TO INDIA AND EVOLUTION OF AGRARIAN SYSTEMS. THE HIGH ALTITUDE HAMLET HAVE SOME CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PREVIOUS SYSTEM, DUE TO THE REMAINING FORESTS ON THE TOP OF THE HILLS. AT LOW ALTITUDE WHERE GRAZING LANDS AND FORESTS ARE VERY FEW, ANIMALS ARE FED IN STALLING with THE PRODUCT OF PRIVATE FIELDS. THE INCREASE IN FOOD PRODUCTION IS NECESSARY IN ORDER TO HAVE MORE ANIMALS OF A BETTER QUALITY FOR AN ALWAYS GROWING POPULATION

Hugh of Saint-Victor gave several lectures at the cloister of the parisian abbey of St Victor : the subject furnished the matter of the treatise 'De Archa Noe'. .

Kidd, Jacqueline Dianne. « Aroha mai : nurses, nursing and mental illness ». 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/2292/2414.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
This research takes an autoethnographical approach to exploring the connections between being a nurse, doing nursing work, and experiencing a mental illness. Data is comprised of autoethnographical stories from 18 nurses. Drawing on Lyotard’s (1988) postmodern philosophy of ‘regimes of phrases’ and ‘genres of discourse,’ the nurses’ stories yielded three motifs: Nursing, Tangata Whaiora (people seeking wellness) and Bullying. Motifs are recurring topical, emotional and contextual patterns which have been created in this research by means of the formation of collective stories from the content of the nurses’ stories, artwork, fictional vignettes and poetry. Interpretation of the motifs was undertaken by identifying and exploring connected or dissenting aspects within and between the motifs. Using Fine’s (1994) notion of hyphenated lives, the spaces between these aspects were conceptualised as hyphens. The Nursing motif revealed a hyphen between the notion of the nurses as selfless and tireless carers, and the mastery requirements of professionalism. The nurses’ hope for caring, belonging, expertise and ‘goodness’ were also features of the nursing motif. The Tangata Whaiora motif revealed the hyphen between being a compliant patient and a self-determined person seeking wellness, and also foreshadowed the notion that the nursing identity does not ‘permit’ the dual identities of nurse and tangata whaiora. This research has found that nurses who have experienced, or are vulnerable to, mental illness negotiate a nexus of hyphens between societal, professional and personal expectations of the nurse. Ongoing unsuccessful negotiation of their identities is exhausting and leads to enduring distress. At times, negotiation is not possible and the nurse is immobilised in a differend of silence and injustice. At such times, the only resolution possible for the nurse is to leave the nursing profession. Bullying surfaced as a feature of the hyphen between the nursing and tangata whaiora identities, as well as being a part of each identity as colonising, silencing and/or discriminatory acts. Successful negotiation between and among the nursing and tangata whaiora hyphens requires a radical restructuring of the nursing image and culture across the education, workplace and personal/clinical areas. Three strategies are proposed for the discipline of nursing to achieve this change: transformatory education, a conscientisation programme, and mandatory emancipatory clinical supervision.

Yahi, Alexandre. « Simulating drug responses in laboratory test time series with deep generative modeling ». Thesis, 2019. https://doi.org/10.7916/d8-arta-jt32.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Drug effects can be unpredictable and vary widely among patients with environmental, genetic, and clinical factors. Randomized control trials (RCTs) are not sufficient to identify adverse drug reactions (ADRs), and the electronic health record (EHR) along with medical claims have become an important resource for pharmacovigilance. Among all the data collected in hospitals, laboratory tests represent the most documented and reliable data type in the EHR. Laboratory tests are at the core of the clinical decision process and are used for diagnosis, monitoring, screening, and research by physicians. They can be linked to drug effects either directly, with therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM), or indirectly using drug laboratory effects (DLEs) that affect surrogate tests. Unfortunately, very few automated methods use laboratory tests to inform clinical decision making and predict drug effects, partly due to the complexity of these time series that are irregularly sampled, highly dependent on other clinical covariates, and non-stationary. Deep learning, the branch of machine learning that relies on high-capacity artificial neural networks, has known a renewed popularity this past decade and has transformed fields such as computer vision and natural language processing. Deep learning holds the promise of better performances compared to established machine learning models, although with the necessity for larger training datasets due to their higher degrees of freedom. These models are more flexible with multi-modal inputs and can make sense of large amounts of features without extensive engineering. Both qualities make deep learning models ideal candidate for complex, multi-modal, noisy healthcare datasets. With the development of novel deep learning methods such as generative adversarial networks (GANs), there is an unprecedented opportunity to learn how to augment existing clinical dataset with realistic synthetic data and increase predictive performances. Moreover, GANs have the potential to simulate effects of individual covariates such as drug exposures by leveraging the properties of implicit generative models. In this dissertation, I present a body of work that aims at paving the way for next generation laboratory test-based clinical decision support systems powered by deep learning. To this end, I organized my experiments around three building blocks: (1) the evaluation of various deep learning architectures with laboratory test time series and their covariates with a forecasting task; (2) the development of implicit generative models of laboratory test time series using the Wasserstein GAN framework; (3) the inference properties of these models for the simulation of drug effects in laboratory test time series, and their application for data augmentation. Each component has its own evaluation: The forecasting task enabled me to explore the properties and performances of different learning architectures; the Wasserstein GAN models are evaluated with both intrinsic metrics and extrinsic tasks, and I always set baselines to avoid providing results in a "neural-network only" referential. Applied machine learning, and more so with deep learning, is an empirical science. While the datasets used in this dissertation are not publicly available due to patient privacy regulation, I described pre-processing steps, hyper-parameters selection and training processes with reproducibility and transparency in mind. In the specific context of these studies involving laboratory test time series and their clinical covariates, I found that for supervised tasks, machine learning holds up well against deep learning methods. Complex recurrent architectures like long short-term memory (LSTM) do not perform well on these short time series, while convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and multi-layer perceptrons (MLPs) provide the best performances, at the cost of extensive hyper-parameter tuning. Generative adversarial networks, enabled by deep learning models, were able to generate high-fidelity laboratory test time series, and the quality of the generated samples was increased with conditional models using drug exposures as auxiliary information. Interestingly, forecasting models trained on synthetic data exclusively still retain good performances, confirming the potential of GANs in privacy-oriented applications. Finally, conditional GANs demonstrated an ability to interpolate samples from drug exposure combinations not seen during training, opening the way for laboratory test simulation with larger auxiliary information spaces. In specific cases, augmenting real training sets with synthetic data improved performances in the forecasting tasks, and could be extended to other applications where rare cases present a high prediction error.

This thesis focuses on the sense of restlessness and the search for identity and a sense of belonging in Aritha van Herk’s Restlessness. The narrator and protagonist, Dorcas, is a Dutch Canadian emigrating at a very young age from the Netherlands to Canada with her parents and her aunt. She works as an international courier and therefore has to travel all over the world. Weariness and restlessness arise in her mind. However, when Dorcas returns to her place at Calgary, she feels more homesick and restless and has to leave again. Paradoxically, Dorcas also carries out the search for peace of mind and a sense of belonging through traveling, but traveling does not bring her what she desires. In order to resolve this dilemma, she makes several attempts at suicide but never succeeds. Then she starts hiring assassins. In fact, Dorcas hires many assassins in different cities to kill her, but no one makes it. It is also because she has been trying for many years to find a place where she can terminate her life. Finally, she goes back to Calgary, where she grows up, and hires a professional assassin, Derrick Atman, to end her life at the Palliser Hotel. Dorcas arranges her own death and wants to become a ghost haunting the Palliser Hotel. In this way, it seems that she tries to turn Calgary as her home. The whole plot of Restlessness develops during the evening when Dorcas meets Derrick Atman in the hotel in order to complete their deal. Within the few hours she spends with Atman, Dorcas recalls important people and events in her past life. Through the mix of a large number of dialogues and interior monologues, we readers can discover Dorcas’s restlessness in her search for home and self-identity.

Résumé :
This study begins with a look at creative blocks in the lives of creative women, and how these contribute to contemporary feminist discourses on maternal art. These discourses consider how real mothers deal with the ambivalence and contradictions of lived motherhood. Consequently, I considered from a feminist perspective, how women have traditionally been and are still predisposed to care for others, and how this responsibility both feeds and obstructs one’s creative self. Personal issues of identity and social roles within the context of marriage, motherhood and “daughterhood” were explored through studio-based research in the form of personal visual memoirs. Visual memoirs were inspired by photo elicitation and reflective journaling. This study concluded with the idea that “peak experiences” during the creative process functioned not only as a form of escapism, but also served to reconnect with one’s selfhood. This study also looked at how emotional bonds are intertwined with one’s lived experience, and how all these combined contribute to personal growth and creativity. These findings extend beyond the personal by attesting that reflecting on lived experience through memory work, photo elicitation and visual memoirs can be used as a motivational tool in art education to unblock creativity. This journey also determined that no subject is too personal or too small to not be consideredon a more global scale.

As environmental concern become one of the most important issues in recent years, this thesis, on the basis of the Harrisons’ project, develops the study of the relations between the sociality, ecological awareness and the landscape presented by contemporary art when faced with ecological themes. From the exploration of such linage, this thesis returns and further examines and criticizes the artistic works of the Harrisons. Three separate angles of research are then revealed: the linage of art history, ecological awareness of Ecocriticism and the creative link between art and society. Helen Mayer and Newton Harrison first cooperated in the 1970s, the blooming age of ecology. Different from that of other “landscape artists”, who incorporated nature into their works but neglected the development of ecology, their work, through collaborative conversations with experts of other disciplines, discussed and interpreted professional environmental issues and ecological awareness, and attempted the restoration of ecology system and the solution of its problems. Such works were evident in their critical texts, for instance Suzanne Lacy’s “Mapping the Terrain: New Genre Public Art” and Grant Kester’s “Conversation Pieces: Community and Communication in Modern Art” are both important references to the Harrisons’ works. With these texts, as the foundation in the exploration of the relations between art and social practices, the publicity and sociality of the Harrisons’ works are further discussed. Through the discussion of awareness, it is deduced that the social orientation of contemporary art is the descendant of the awareness and reflection constructed by the overall criticism to the development of modern society. The works addressing ecological issues in contemporary art are the precise reflection of this linage, as they aim to restore the lost links of man to nature, and people to society. With the exploration of this linage, works of the Harrisons are of pioneering value in both ecological art and ecocriticism, as well as in the social connections of contemporary art.

This thesis is to explore the control chart design for application to the corre-lated data. We assume that the quality characteristic X follows an ARTA(p) process, which is a covariance stationary process with an arbitrary marginal distribution. A considerable number of previous works have been dealing with the control chart de-sign for correlated normality data, little has been endeavored to the effect of the cor-related non-normality data. In this thesis, we assume that each item is inspected and its quality characteristic is measured at the moment it is produced. Hence, we consider only two parameters: sample size m and control-limit factor k for the design chart. We develop an op-timization model for the control chart design with correlated non-normality data. The rationale for the model is to look for the optimal design parameters so as to maximize the out-of-control performance with specific mean shift, under a fixed performance of in-control process. We propose a procedure of simulation, incorporated with retro-spective approximation, to find the optimal design of control chart. In addition, we also examine the effects of correlated non-normality data on the design parameters. From the results of simulation experiments, our findings reveal that the control chart design requires larger sample size as the data get higher positively correlated. For stronger negative correlation, the sample size does not change monotonically with the magnitude of correlation. Additionally, a larger sample is required for non-normal marginal distributions, such as exponential, lognormal, and t distributions, than for the normal marginal distribution with same lag-p autocorrelations. (Our empirical results only show p=1.) In addition, we compare the chart to the ARMAST chart in different corre-lated data. The data processes we selected are AR(1) process and ARTA(1) with U(0,1) marginal distribution. The results indicate that the application of chart is more robust than ARMAST chart with non-normality marginal distribution.

The thesis deals with the influences of Flemish realism on late Gothic panel painting in Bohemia; more specifically, it focuses mainly on the well-known altarpiece of Grand Master Puchner. The altarpiece is considered one of the earliest and also purest examples of the influence of Flemish realism in Bohemia. Experts agree there was no direct contact, the influence was mediated through neighboring areas. As to through which areas, experts differ in their opinions. However, the question of where the style of the altarpiece comes from gets the most attention in the thesis. Based on the comparison of styles the thesis claims that the main inspiration for the painter of the Prague altarpiece came from Cologne, from the workshop of the Master of the Lyversberg Passion in particular.

The campus public art is taking on an increasingly important role in future development of school environment and of the integrated planning of the community. It affects students’ learning motivation, habit and behavior by being public, artistic, and interactive. In the spirit of incorporating art into life and life into art, campus public art can be extensively integrated as part of the larger curriculum without special financing. In a survey conducted by the current study exploring elementary school students’ and teachers’ preferred forms of getting involved in campus public art, it was found that campus public art forms most to least preferred are artistic creation, artistic performance, and artistic appreciation. The current study was mainly a qualitative one in which surveys, observations of and participation in activities and interviews were analyzed, generalized, and calculated. The results were quantified and resented simple percentages. The research sample is students from Beisin Elementary School, who helped complete surveys. Among the returned surveys, some were chosen at random and the informants, who would fill out a different version of survey and had an interview. In this doing, we get to understand students’ thinking about how campus public art meant to teach about life should be conducted. It turned out that life education supplemented with campus public art to address the topics such as individual and him/herself, individual and others, individual and society and individual and nature enabled teachers and students to know and like themselves and respect others more. The implementation of it also made the school environment greener and more beautiful, reinforced teachers’ and students’ attachment for the school, and further connected the school and the community. As the model worked effectively, it may be an example for schools to follow in life education campaign at the beginners’ level, campus landscape designing, and implementation of public art.

The ‘computer art’ came into being by the computer technology developed since World War Ⅱ. By the ingenious ways of usage of artists, the computer technology, originally, used as tools of trajectory distance computing and information decoding, becomes the material of artistic creation. Up to present time, the steady progress in computer technology has had immense influence over daily life, entertainment, industry, commerce, and even national defense in different areas. For the artistic creation perspectively speaking, the emergence of computer technology, hence traditional painting and design develop new artistic areas and artists use it as creative materials to have an unpredictable brilliant future. After entering the era of digital, the ‘spatial’ presentation of artistic creation is not only entering into 4D, but also the new presentations of so-call ‘virtual reality’ and ‘interactive space.’ For art creators, it is worth studying and discussing this new trend. Facing the new coming era, the artistic materials and presentation should have forms and characteristics of contemporaneity. The core of contemporary arts lies in looking for a new set of ‘visual languages’, and inventing new content and a new means of presentation. The information technology is providing a whole new creative form, and thought. For instance, artists can meet the demands of faster images or make the presentation of imaginative image easier, copy, print and store images in a digital environment, and diffuse artworks widely without the boundaries of Internet. For the author, this study of artistic creation of myself focuses on cognition of digital creation materials and it’s revolutionary influence on the presentation of space and on understanding of it’s distinctive characteristics from traditional materials by the experiments on digital materials. Chapter One gives a description of motives & purposes, methods & steps, and limitation of restriction and boundary. Chapter Two, mainly, discusses the issue of ‘space’: first, from cognition to presentation of painting ‘space’; second, influence of digital technology on creating ‘space’. Chapter Three, it chiefly concerns with the transitional progress of the creation materials of creator from traditional to digital. It starts from the discussion of oeuvres review and period division to digital material experiments, and further analysis and comparison of ‘spatial simulacrum’ presentation of material. Chapter Four, applying the what creator learned from the experiments on digital material in creation of ‘digital spatial virtual image’, and interpreting the connotation of works and analyzing the forms of works. Chapter Five, according to what the creator got from artistic creation, coming to conclusion and offering suggestions, and providing the developmental direction of digital artistic creation and research in the future.

By means of field research, interview, and analysis of images, this paper will develop a systematical argument about a clay sculpture artist, Huo sung, Chiou, by his background, the process of studying independently, and concept and essence of his creations. Besides, Chiou’s sophisticated clay sculpture skill and his core of samurai spirit are pointed out here to be an effective method to understand the culture inside Chiou’s artistic works, and realize his motivation that he performs by his artistic creations and the vitality that he gives to his works in addition. First, the rough sketch of Taiwanese sculptures history which time is from Japanese colonial period to postwar and today to comprehend Chiou’s background will be mentioned in the research. Additionally, a glance into Chiou’s life and experiences will be helpful to understand how his sculpture skill proceeds steadily. Chiou courageously exhibited at official exhibitions when he is unknown to the public. His artistic works won prizes in many exhibitions so he gradually became popular and owned his own studio for creating space. Furthermore, Chiou enthusiastically embarked on social and religious affair so Chiou was offered many excellent chances to publicly display his art works. Chiou was born in Japanese colonial period. By means of training of Kendo, Chiou aimed at revising his moral conduct to cultivate its mature mental attitude. His lift attitude and creation concept were affected by samurai spirits a lot, such as industrious manner, austere style life, self-restrain, acquired manners, and incorruptible attitude towards job and so forth. These self-cultivations for decades have him becoming an unrestricted creative artist. Memorial statue is Chiou’s representative work of realistic style. He finds a balance between Realism and Idealism by means of professional clay sculpture skills, acute observation of people, and documentary textual research. Consequently, Chiou enables to embody the abstract idea in his works to present its essence. Heroic totem that Chiou made symbolizes samurai spirit. He empowers such moralities as loyalty, justice, benevolence, and brave, to heroes. Heroic totem is not a decoration only, but an art work which is provided with dignity and thousands of ideas that Chiou would like to express. His statues of gods are not only splendid decorated, but also solemn imposing. Every statue of god is full of vigor with pithy style. Moreover, every statue is the only one work which is not reproduction by machinery. His works are close connection with his own religious belief, which is identification of religion and a heritage of spirit. The children''s art museum as a cultural and educational institution provides a learning choice different from other venues. Through the display design and educational activities, the museum promotes children''s appreciation of artworks and creates diverse interactions and learning experiences. What are the influences of the exhibition design to children’s play and appreciation of artwork behaviours? How do the family members interact in the museum? Furthermore, how do children of different ages interact with artworks? These are the research questions that this thesis is going to explore. The “Pattern, Really Wonderful!” exhibition is applied as case study in the Kaohsiung Children''s Museum of Art. By observation and video recording, the researcher recorded the interaction among children and their family members at four artworks. Analysis shows that different designs of artworks and the exhibition design influenced the interactive play and sharing of creation among children. For example, corner space and overall display environmental influenced the space of play and interaction experience. The dynamic projection on the floor promotes bodily play and teaching aids which can be touched and played benefits children’s role play. The area set for children to display their own works facilitates sharing and discussion. The location and height of setting the artists’ works influences children’s imitation and discussion. Besides, interactive teaching aids can facilitate family members’ interaction, and children also invited adults to join their play. In addition to cooperative play, sometimes adult’s guidance might interfere children’s play. Children of different ages interact with artworks differently. Infants use their body to touch and play most, preschoolers are more devoted themselves into the role play, and school-age children will develop rules of game with their peers. In addition, there are occasional conflicts between children, especially when the resources are unevenly distributed or their own works were destroyed by other children. The children’s art museum can enrich children’s museum experiences and family’s interaction, if the museum staff and artists can make good use of the nature of children''s fond of playing, designing artworks and interactive display that the family loves, and creating an interactive environment suitable for children of different ages, in addition to games and activities to enhance the reading rate of exhibition edition text, and the exhibition requires attention needed to increasing the closed, and considering the height suitable for children to appreciate the artworks as well as providing adequate resources and teaching aids.

in the case of public art work, the creation of art is not strictly a release of personal emotion and presentation of style, but also includes more profound thoughts. Besides the art worker’s personal style and professional background, public art needs to express and face complicated and direct problems of its society. The public art which can’t establish a communicational relationship with its society, which ignores the society’s perspective, would lose its purpose and meaning. Therefore, it is a thoughtful topic that a public artist in his works should maintain a balance, expressing both artistic and public aspects. The main purpose of this survey is to understand the public art workers’ thoughts and to investigate the relationship between their works and the surrounding societal environment. For the purposes of this research, I tried to determine the main topics and ideas relevant to public art. The tools I intend to use to answer the aforementioned questions are; literature analysis of many artist’s works and their biographies in order to build the basic concepts of public art creation, personal interviews trying to determine public art workers’ creative concepts and their original notions, and questionnaire-based research in order to acquire information concerning the public’s apprehension of public art works related to my main research topics. The conclusions of this survey are extracted from the results of the interviews and questionnaires. The following presents a summary of the findings: 1. There are three aspects that the public art workers should consider when creating their works. From an artistic aspect, public artists take major consideration of the place where their works are to be exhibited. From a spatial aspect, drawing from the “tangible environment” and “intangible environment” that physically surrounds the work of art, the workers also intent to shape their works in such a way so as to craft public art works that suit these surroundings. Moreover, from a public aspect, they aim to call attention to the viewers’ aesthetic visual receptiveness and provoke in an emotional and sentimental manner. 2. The public art workers faced some difficulties in the public aspect. Firstly, excessive bureaucracy and red-tape. Secondly, the public art works and the buildings or other surroundings couldn’t keep in harmony. Thirdly, the government tended to misinterpret public art works as engineering. Fourthly, the art workers and the executive administrations had different perceptions about the works. Fifthly, seeking materials and factories sometimes was not easy to find because of the great quantities needed. In that case, the solutions were joining public art work teams, looking for enthusiastic administration, developing the art workers’ patience and communicative abilities and altering the art workers’ mindset. 3. The differences of perception of the public art works between the workers and the viewers focuses on their understanding of the titles and contents of art works, as well as their perception concerning the locations and the space of the public art works. For balance to be maintained, the workers should take the viewers’ consciousness into consideration, and then create detailed explanation boards for their works. Furthermore, the art workers should investigate the public’s perception concerning the surrounding environment before starting the work. According to these results, I propose some suggestions concerning the public art workers, the administrations as well as future researches.

The development of Ink-art in Taiwan is influenced by its society, way of living, school’s art education, and ideology. Comparing with western art, Ink-art’s aesthetic-value is relatively unrecognized by the people of this country. How can a museum express the aesthetic value of Ink-art with it’s own limited resource while still being dedicated to the community’s education, and being a cultural institution? With this in mind, the purpose of this research is to investigate Ink-art’s exhibitions in museums, and the practice of education of appreciation. In response to the following questions, this study will focus on an exhibition held by Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts (KMFA, Kaohsiung), “A passionate journey: Huang Kuang-nan’s Literati Art” as a research target: How is Ink-art’s aesthetic value reproduced and demonstrated through this exhibition? How does a museum express its content in order to facilitate the education of appreciation? How is Huang Kuang-nan’s personal experiences reflected through his Ink-art creations and his concept of art education? As a response for those questions mentioned above, through thorough analysis of related articles, this research will first clarify the effectiveness of the museum’s ability to educate through exhibitions, and the theory on Ink-art’s education of appreciation. Furthermore, this research aims to understand how Ink-art’s education of appreciation is practiced in a museum through these points of view. Secondly, via the analysis of Huang Kuang-nan’s experience in art education and his concept of it, this research will further investigate his idea of Ink-art creation and his views on art. Lastly, this research will focus on its purpose, the space arrangement, and the guide lines on this particular event, “A Passionate journey: Huang Kuang-nan’s Literati Art” to further analyze and discuss the questions above as feedback. Affected by his environment, learning and working experience, Huang Kuang-nan used intellectual vision of Ink-art to represent his heart and soul in attempt to turn it into a modern symbol. The exhibition “A Passionate journey: Huang Kuang-nan’s Literati Art” makes its own interpretation through a “intellectual’s vision” with the intention to present Huang Kuang-nan’s complete experience in art. The construction of this exhibition was presented in alignment with its style properties to effectively highlight the feature of Huang Kuang-nan's Ink-art, and has successfully matched it with the exhibition’s scheme. During the exhibition tour, the speaker provides a sequence and pathway to judgement on Ink-art, as well as encourages viewers to link their personal life experiences to guide them on how to appreciate Ink-art.

Résumé :
This thesis presents the analysis of a series of experimental measurements from a selection of springs, geysers and wells at Te Aroha, Rotorua and Orakeikorako in New Zealand aimed at the identification of the frequencies of any characteristic variations with a period of 25 hours or less. The measurements taken from these sources collectively recorded water level, conductivity, temperature, rainfall and barometric pressure. The measurements involve the collection of data with high accuracy instrumentation and high sampling rates of 5 minutes to 1 hour over periods exceeding 1400 hours in both exploited and unexploited hydrothermal systems. The measurements are filtered using both an adaptive wavelet based filter and Fourier analysis to extract the influence of gravity tides, rainfall, and barometric pressure with the residual dominant frequencies being attributed to sub-surface thermodynamic processes. A review of the development of techniques for the determination of the pressure response of geothermal reservoirs to barometric pressure, gravity tides, and rainfall is presented. The fundamentals for the mathematical development of Fourier and wavelet analysis are discussed along with sources of error for both Fourier and wavelet analysis. A sensitivity study of wavelet and Fourier analysis is presented based on the analysis of a series of artificial signals. A system dynamics model of a spring at Orakeikorako is formulated to demonstrate fundamental heat and mass transfer processes and the effect of periodic forcing functions on spring response. This study is of importance in that it provides an understanding of periodic forcing functions derived from high accuracy measurements on geothermal features at high sampling rates over periods exceeding 1400 hours. Once identified, the amplitude and frequency of the forcing functions can be monitored to assist in identifying and quantifying any changes in reservoir characteristics.

Résumé :
This Study elaborates the topic of Biblical Trust in the World of Pentateuch. This trust is understood as to rely in a purely subjective way on a word or instruction of some person. In case of God it frequently means a conviction that some humanly unrealizable promises are to be fulfilled. Such attitude secures to the trusting person merits before God. Rely on God is often understood in a confrontational way as opposite to the life of unbelievers. Trust requires courage to make leap in the dark. Meanwhile it is always right to trust in God, trust in a human person is in Pentateuch interpreted as fool. But if the respective man is the spokesman of God, the eventual mistrust is seen as an attack against God himself. In case of God's revelation trust becomes duty. If there is any doubt people can ask some sign of authenticity for the presented God's will. But if the will is known, eventual mistrust is interpreted as disobedience and follows a severe punishment. The same trust which belongs to God is required also for his prophet and for the Law proclaimed in the God's name. If somebody relies on himself in sense of exaggerated self-confidence which does not count on God, it is understood as a crime. In the same manner is valuated the trust directed towards the pagan divinities.

Résumé :
The dissertation deals with the reception of Dutch realism in the late Gothic panel painting in Bohemia. Its aim is to examine the principles of reception of new artistic forms and ideas that originated in the Dutch art centers in the 15th century. The Czech painting of the 15th century was adopting these innovative trends exclusively from the neighbouring countries. Therefore, the work addresses mainly issues related to artistic exchanges between Bohemia and the surrounding - mostly German-speaking - regions. It looks into the specific ways in which artistic exchange took place - the mobility of artists, art imports, the importance of graphic and other models. The dissertation focuses on the most important examples that show the reception of Dutch realism: The Ark of Grand Master Puchner, The Křivoklát Altarpiece, and works associated with it. These matters are addressed mainly through a formal stylistic analysis and formal comparison. In the case of the Puchner Ark, via these methods, it has been possible to point out a possible artistic basis of the author in Swabia - within a circle of the followers of the Master of the Sterzing Altarpiece. The dissertation has tried to prove the artistic origin of the Master of the Litoměřice Altarpiece within the circle of the Ulm painter B. Zeitblom. These...
