Résumé :
This research explores the overlap between community-based art therapy and school-based art therapy through the surveyed experiences of art therapists working in school settings, and informed by community-based art therapy components and characteristics identified in A Model for Art Therapists in Community Practice by Dylan Ottemiller and Yasmine Awais. A literature review focused on five components and characteristics identified within the community-based art therapy literature, and informed the review of school-based art therapy literature based on the community-based art therapy themes. A qualitative survey approach was utilized through the distribution and data analysis of an electronic survey and findings were enriched by the researcher’s participation in the development and implementation of a brief community-based art therapy program providing an art therapy experience to families receiving services at a domestic violence intervention center. Analysis of the data revealed three major themes and specific areas where school-based practice is facilitating community-based art therapy (CBAT) components and characteristics. The findings discuss which CBAT components and characteristics are and are not being facilitated within school-based practice, and in conclusion the research offers ways school-based art therapy programs may offer opportunities for community-based practice.

Résumé :
This research explores the experiences and practices of Medical Art Therapists; specifically, how working with clients in a medical setting, often as a part of a multidisciplinary team, impacts the work of an Art Therapist. Researchers reviewed the general literature regarding children and adults’ experiences of hospitalization and utilization of psychosocial services. Medical Art Therapy literature is reviewed next, emphasizing work with children, families, and adults. Informed by the literature, researchers invited Medical Art Therapists to participate in a focus group and/or follow-up survey. Researchers conducted a focus group in which participants discussed their experiences and created response art. A survey was then sent to focus group participants and other respondents who were unavailable for the focus group. Researchers identified four categories that emerged from the survey data: “art as self-expression,” “categorization of Art Therapy,” “considerations specific to the medical setting,” and “range of utility” of Medical Art Therapy. Researchers used these categories to analyze data from the focus group and response art. An additional category emerged from these two data sets: “personal experience.” The response art naturally offered another category for analysis: “features of the art.” Researchers compared findings across all data sets and discovered meanings by setting these findings in the context of the general and Medical Art Therapy literature. Further research is warranted to support expansion in the field of Medical Art Therapy.

McNamee, Carole M. « Bilateral Art : An Integration of Marriage and Family Therapy, Art Therapy, and Neuroscience ». Diss., Virginia Tech, 2004. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/11107.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Bilateral art is a neurologically-based therapeutic intervention that engages both dominant and non-dominant hands in the creation of images in response to polarized beliefs, cognitions, or feelings. Advances in neuroscience that integrate attachment theory and experience with neuronal development argue for use of the intervention. Retrospective case studies using enhancements of the bilateral art intervention protocol for individuals support these arguments. These case studies demonstrate clinical application of the intervention to a range of presenting problems including differentiation from family of origin, parenting problems, loss, trauma, and self-esteem concerns and provide the first documented evidence of the effectiveness of the bilateral art intervention. Additional case studies reflect development of two different bilateral art intervention protocols that facilitate exploration of relationships. The first protocol adapts the use of bilateral art with individuals to use with couples and it has a dual purpose: to facilitate both openness and integration of polarized thoughts or feelings in one member of a couple and to increase empathy in the other. The second protocol facilitates exploration of and reflection upon a relationship and is applied in the case study to the supervisor-supervisee dyad that is an integral part of the training of marriage and family therapists. Experiences reveal possible contraindications as well as indications for the use of these protocols.

Résumé :
This research uses critical theory inquiry with interviews and arts-based research to explore biases about art making in clinical art therapy practice. The literature review establishes an historical link between theoretical tenets in fields of art therapy and art history. Participants are chosen from experts in the fields of art therapy and art history. Interviews explore what art making means to each participant, utilizing both verbal and arts-based processing. The data is condensed through coding and arts-based reflection, and seven emergent themes are identified. The themes are checked with the participants for accuracy. The findings of the paper integrate the insight from the literature review with the expressed views of the participants to illuminate meaning-making processes of art. The paper concludes with identification of an “art historical lens” for practicing art therapy and discussion of treatment considerations, limitations of the study, and suggestions for further research.

Résumé :
This study aimed to explore children’s experiences of art therapy in order to create a theory of change processes within school-based art therapy. A total of 14 children were interviewed at two different schools, along with their parents, teachers, and art therapists. All children had received art therapy within the last 12 months. Semi-structured individual interviews were undertaken with 40 participants. Children completed a craft activity within their interview as a visual expression of their therapy experience. Interview data was analysed using grounded theory methodology. The results generated three theoretical models. The first model highlighted the systemic nature of the art therapy as well as describing it as mysterious. Model 2 described the processes within art therapy, focusing on the individualised child-centred nature of the intervention. Art doing was considered central to the children’s expressions and developing understandings. Model 3 described the trajectory of change for the children. The study recommends that psychologists consider art therapy for children who are struggling to verbalise their difficulties; that clinicians focus on therapeutic experiences being fun and enjoyable for the child, as well as embedded within the child’s system; and lastly that clear target problems are identified at the start of therapy.

Résumé :
AbstractThe use of group art therapy, individual art therapy and family art therapy in an inpatient child and adolescent mental health services unit will be described, including images and consumer feedback to demonstrate effectiveness. The artworks made in art therapy can reveal hidden dysfunction in the young person and/or their family members. Recent trauma research supports capacity to access this material safely through non-verbal visual communication. Family art therapy has been a useful intervention to support the identification of illness in a parent, to improving attunement between the parent and the child and for the parent to detach from their child’s symptoms by agreeing to get treatment for themselves. If the patient cannot separate from the illness in the parent, their symptoms will persist.

Résumé :
The use of art and design technology in art therapy plays an important role in helping individuals express their inner emotions and thoughts. Art therapy is a sort of psychotherapy in which people use art to explore their emotions and ideas, process challenging situations, and enhance their mental and physical health. Art and design technology can be used to facilitate the therapeutic process and help individuals express themselves uniquely and creatively. In addition, art and design technology can provide an opportunity for individuals to learn new skills and obtain a feeling of accomplishment. For example, an individual may use technology to create an animation or web design, which can provide a sense of accomplishment and can help them to feel more confident. Overall, the use of art and design technology in art therapy can provide individuals with an opportunity to express themselves creatively and explore their feelings in a unique and meaningful way. This can help individuals to process difficult emotions and gain a sense of accomplishment, leading to improved mental and physical health.

Résumé :
Review question / Objective: Participants: experiment POI animal models; Interventions: human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells; Comparisons: POI animal models without hUCMSC therapy; Outcomes: estrous cycle situation, serum sex hormone level and ovarian follicle count; Studies: randomized controlled animal study; The aim of the review is to figure out whether hUCMSC can recover ovarian function in POI animal models. Condition being studied: Primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a syndrome characterized by reduced or absent ovarian function (hypogonadism) and elevated levels of gonadotropins, specifically luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Etiologies of POI are various. Genetic disorders, autoimmune diseases, iatrogenic injuries like chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and infectious diseases all contribute to the development of POI. Main manifestation of POI includes decreased ovarian function and infertility. Patients may suffer from menopausal symptoms, such as increased cardiovascular disease, decreased bone mineral density, vulvovaginal atrophy, psychological distress and so on. Current treatment of POI is limited. HRT mainly ameliorates symptoms while ART can achieve fertility in some patients but faces many challenges in clinical practice because it's hard to get satisfied oocytes. Stem cell therapy is proved to be efficient in recovering organ functions and hUCMSC is one of the easiest cell to obtain. So we think hUCMSC is promising in treating POI.
