Abstract. In «Die Erfindung des Politischen» (1993) beschreibt Ulrich Beck Subpolitik als den Ort, an dem die Grenze zwischen Politik und Nichtpolitik verschwindet. Aus der zunehmenden Wirkkraft von Subpolitik erwächst die grundlegende Frage, mit welcher Legitimation diese Art von Subpolitik in die Sphäre der institutionalisierten Politik eindringt. Beck’s Subpolitik soll im Anschluss an theoretische Arbeiten von Chantal Mouffe und Giorgio Agamben als post-politische Aspiration bezeichnet werden, die einen Ausnahmezustand herstellt, indem sie Räume für das Politische postuliert und diese Ausnahmeräume zur Regel erklärt. Dieses Argument wird anhand einer bürokratisierten Form von Subpolitik analysiert, die in der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit (EZA) Eingang gefunden hat: der partizipativen Planungsmethode PRA.

Abstract This article presents an edition with introduction and commentary of two unpublished letters that Ulrich von Wilamowitz-Moellendorff wrote to the art historian and cultural scholar Aby Warburg in the 1920 s. The edition completes a correspondence that includes a letter from Warburg that has already been published several times. The two letters cast light on the hitherto barely known relation of Wilamowitz to Warburg himself and to his Kulturwissenschaftliche Bibliothek in Hamburg. They centre on the Warburg Library’s special research interest, namely the influence of the ancient world on later cultural periods, especially the Renaissance.

Den Zuschauer frontal angehen (über den neuen österreichischen Dokumentarfilm : Sauper, Geyrhalter, Seidl, Salmonowitz) Filme wie Darwin’s Albtraum (2005) von Hubert Sauper, Unser täglich Brot (2006) von Nikolaus Geyrhalter oder Good News (1989) und Dog Days (2000) von Ulrich Seidl, oder auch Kurz davor ist es passiert (2007) von Anja Salomonowitz haben bei der Kritik für Aufregung und Entsetzen gesorgt. Allen ist gemeinsam, dass sie direkt, auf demonstrative Weise vorgehen, indem sie eine Art negative Pädagogik einsetzen, die den Zuschauer mit der Häßlichkeit der von ihm bewohnten, jedoch ungern betrachteten Welt konfrontiert. Sie bieten keinerlei Gegenleistung, sic lehnen die Erlösung des Wirklichen durch das Bild ab. Die dokumentarische Herausforderung liegt nicht mehr in der Information des Zuschauers über die verheerenden Folgen der Weltordnung (die dieser wissentlich ignoriert), sondern darin, dessen freiwillige Knechtschaft anzugehen und sein falsches Bewußtsein in die Flucht zu schlagen, sei es durch Mangel (Minimalismus, Litotes, Ironie), sei es durch Übertreibung (Groteske, Horror, Provokation). In jedem Falle werden dabei die Rezeptionsgewohnheiten, aber auch die Konventionen der dokumentarischen wie der fiktionalen Erzählungen vereitelt.

Britain began making Shakespeare her national poet early in the eighteenth century, and Germany followed suit a few decades later, progressively turning ‘unser Shakespeare’ into one of three national poets, with Goethe and Schiller. As early as 1773, Johann Gottfried Herder included his essay on ‘Shakespear’ in a collection entitled Von Deutscher Art und Kunst. The drama of the ‘Sturm und Drang’, which Herder's collection programmatically inaugurated, appropriated what Goethe (Götz von Berlichingen), Schiller (The Robbers) and their contemporaries (mis)understood to be Shakespeare's dramatic technique. By the end of the century, the assimilation had advanced far enough for August Wilhelm von Schlegel, the famous translator of seventeen of Shakespeare's plays, to indulge in no slight national chauvinism: ‘I am eager’, he writes in a letter to his cotranslator Ludwig Tieck, ‘to have your letters on Shakespeare.… I hope you will prove, among other things, that Shakespeare wasn't English. I wonder how he came to dwell among the frosty, stupid souls on that brutal island? … The English critics understand nothing about Shakespeare.’ Even though Tieck failed to prove that Shakespeare was not of English birth, the conviction that Shakespeare was best understood by German rather than by English critics only grew in the course of the nineteenth century. Appropriately, it was in Germany that the first periodical devoted exclusively to Shakespeare, the Jahrbuch der Deutschen Shakespeare-Gesellschaft, was founded in 1865. Fifty years later, the German novelist Gerhart Hauptmann could still claim that ‘there is no people, not even the English, that has the same right to claim Shakespeare as the German. Shakespeare's characters are a part of our world, his soul has become one with ours: and though he was born and buried in England, Germany is the country where he truly lives.’

Dieser Artikel beschäftigt sich mit den von Klotz im Band IV/3 der NBA veröffentlichten Werken. Vermutlich vor den Siebzehn Chorälen entstanden etwa zwischen 1703 und 1709 folgende Werke: BWV 741, 700 und 735 unter dem Einfluss von Böhm; BWV 737, 724 und O Lamm Gottes, unschuldig unter dem Einfluss von Pachelbel; BWV 721, 718 und 720 unter dem Einfluss von Buxtehude. Vermutlich zur gleichen Zeit wie die Siebzehn Choräle und später wurden die folgenden Werke um 1709 bis 1717 komponiert: Choralbegleitungen und Lehrwerke BWV 715, 726, 722, 729, 732, 738, 725, 730, 706 und die Choralsätze in BWV 690, 695, 713, 734 und 736; Stücke unter dem Einfluss von Pachelbel BWV 712, 696-699, 701, 703, 704, 733, 736 (motivische Behandlung des Chorals), 694, 710, 717, 713, 695 (thematische Behandlung des Chorals), 711, 734 (regelmäßige Behandlung des Chorals); Choräle im Stil des Orgelbüchlein BWV 731,724,709 (koloristisch), 714 (kanonisch), 690 (zwischen Partita und Orgelbüchlein). In den Jahren 1720 bzw. 1722 nahm Bach BWV 691 und 728 in die Klavierbüchlein-Kopien auf. The article deals with two Courland palaces built by the Duke ErnstJohann Biron in Mitau and Ruhental (today, respectively, Jelgava andRundale, Latvia) in connection with architectural drawings of theso-called Bergholtz collection, which is part of the Tessin-HårlemanCollection (THC) in Nationalmuseum in Stockholm. Twelve drawingsof the two Courland palaces make this collection of special interestto those interested in the art of the Baltic region.The first part of the paper is dedicated to the person of FriedrichWilhelm von Bergholtz and to his collection. Who was the creatorof the collection, what were the reasons to gather it and what otherdrawings are stored there? Born in the German duchy of Holstein,Bergholtz spent in all about 15 years in Russia. An extremely richand diverse collection of architectural drawings was gathered mainly(presumably totally) during his third visit in 1742–1746 as tutor ofKarl-Peter-Ulrich, heir to the Russian throne and future emperor ofRussia under the moniker Peter III. The circumstances of compilingthe collection and reasons for it are quite obscure. All the assumptionsmade by different authors remain mere guesswork. The greaterpart of the Bergholtz collection deals with St Petersburg and itssurroundings. All other drawings, numbering 174 in total, referto Moscow, to several provinces of the Russian empire and to theDuchy of Courland.The second part of the article reveals and describes 12 sheetsfrom the Bergholtz collection dedicated to the Baroque palaces inCourland constructed in the 1730s for duke Ernst Johann Bironaccording to the projects of the great architect Francesco Rastrelli.The research resulted in the discovery of seven sheets depicting plansand façades of the palaces in Ruhental, showing how they are almostexact copies of the original projects stored in the collection of theAlbertina museum in Vienna. Of the five drawings that representthe palace in Mitau, two are also copies of the Vienna sheets, andthree are copies of completed projects. Thus, the most valuable amongthe architectural drawings from the Bergholtz collection are threedrawings depicting the façade, and plans for two floors, of the palacein Mitau – the only known copies of Rastrelli’s project, the originalsof which have not yet been discovered.

Abstract In his open letter to Nietzsche of 12 June 1872 (a letter prompted by Ulrich von Wilamowitz-Moellendorffs critique of Nietzsche’s Die Geburt der Tragödie) Wagner voices his enthusiasm for ‘classical antiquity’, dating his interest in the language, mythology, poetry, and history of ancient Greece from his childhood years. Although he had been denied a thorough philological training, he had, he goes on, gradually distilled ‘an ideal perception of art’ (ix. 296) from his study of antiquity—by which he invariably meant Greek antiquity. (In general he held a low opinion of Roman antiquity, which he was even led, on occasion, to dismiss altogether.) In Mein Leben he traces in detail the Greek influences on his view of the world and on his aesthetic thinking, and it is significant that, as with Hölderlin, whose Hyperion he naturally held in low esteem (CT, 24 December 1873 and passim), these influences were mixed with contemporary impressions gained during childhood, notably his enthusiasm for the Greek War of lndependence.
