Résumé :
This chapter defines protocols and the requirements to be considered when writing a protocol, The protocol is one of the most important documents and must be clear, concise and well written. The chapter describes the procedures before embarking on writing a protocol, who should be involved and describes all the main elements to be included. The ICH E6 guidelines give a complete list of the content of a protocol so this chapter centres on the main decisions/considerations. The main considerations are outlined in a skeleton protocol which includes for example objectives and end points, subject population, study design, study methodology, assessments and timings and statistical considerations. Once these main decisions have been made the first full draft protocol can be written by elaborating every detail and adding the administrative sections as set out in the company/institution SOPs and the ICH GCP guidelines. The process of protocol approval is described along with the requirements for protocol amendments. The additional requirements to be considered in writing protocols for healthcare studies is set out especially the ethical requirements that have to be addressed.

Résumé :
Out of the estimated 950,000 personal injuries claims each year in the UK, about 750,000 cases arise from road traffic accidents (RTAs), 90,000 are employers’ liability cases (EL), and 100,000 are public liability cases (PL). About 90% of these are cases where the damages are estimated at between £1,000 and £25,000. This chapter discusses cases covered by the RTA and EL/PL protocols; the provisions of the RTA protocol; the process under the RTA protocol: claim notification, medical evidence and negotiation, and Part 8 claim to determine quantum; child settlement applications; fixed costs under the RTA and EL/PL protocols; and cases where parties can stop following the RTA or EL/PL protocols.

Résumé :
This chapter considers the types of weapon that are the subject of certain specific Protocols under the CCW. The text of each of these CCW Protocols is analysed to determine the range of weapons and activities covered by the instrument and to interpret the obligations that the Protocol introduces. The first Protocol discussed is the Protocol on Non-Detectable Fragments, which prohibits the use of any weapon the primary effect of which is to injure by fragments which in the human body escape detection by X-rays. The chapter then turns to the Incendiary Weapons Protocol, which prohibits certain activities altogether while limiting the circumstances in which others may be lawfully undertaken. The discussion concludes with an overview of the Laser Weapons Protocol, whose main operative provision is to prohibit the employment of laser weapons specifically designed as a combat function to cause permanent blindness to unenhanced vision.

Résumé :
Protocols are essential features of research projects, setting out the rationale for the study, the process the study will follow, and any ethical considerations. This chapter will introduce protocols and their importance and provide a step-by-step guide through the contents of a research protocol. It will highlight what should be included in each section, what issues must be considered specific to the arts, explain unusual terms, and provide suggested text for routine sections not as applicable to the arts. The chapter will also introduce readers to important protocols and procedures for research, such as the Vancouver protocol for authorship, Brunswick agreements for multi-institution research, and Good Clinical Practice.

Résumé :
This chapter analyzes the materialities of Internet protocols, focusing on the relationship between content and conduit, which involves both the compression and modulation of signals. Network protocols are shaped by material constraints. Similarly, the centrality of routing to the Internet can be understood materially in terms of the arrangement of network nodes, the cost of routing, the structure of networks, the size of routing tables, and the dynamics of connectivity. Critically, this materiality cuts across apparently different domains of concern—from the practice of network operations to the rhetoric of democratic access. The chapter then contrasts two different protocols, the Routing Information Protocol and the Exterior Gateway Protocol, which emerged in different historical moments and cultural conditions. Examining the social construction of these network protocols can help differentiate the actual Internet from a possible or imagined Internet.

Résumé :
Protocols used in Molecular Biology is a compilation of several examples of molecular biology protocols. Each example is presented with a concise introduction, materials and chemicals required, a step-by-step procedure and troubleshooting tips. Information about the application of the protocol is also provided. The techniques included in this book are essential to research in the fields of proteomics, genomics, cell culture, epigenetic modification and structural biology. The protocols can also be used by clinical researchers (neuroscientists and oncologists, for example) for medical applications (diagnostics, therapeutics and multidisciplinary projects).

Bannink, Fredrike, et Nicole Geschwind. , Positive CBT : Individual and Group Treatment Protocols for Positive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Hogrefe Publishing, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.1027/00578-000.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Positive CBT integrates positive psychology and solution-focused brief therapy within a cognitive-behavioral framework. It focuses not on reducing what is wrong, but on building what's right. This fourth wave CBT, developed by Fredrike Bannink, is now being applied worldwide for various psychological disorders. An introductory chapter explores the three approaches incorporated in positive CBT. Next, the book presents research into the individual treatment protocol for use with clients with major depressive disorder by Nicole Geschwind and colleagues at Maastricht University. The last chapters describe two 8-session treatment protocols for positive CBT, one for use with individuals and one for use with groups. The treatment protocols provide therapists with a step-by-step guide on how to apply positive CBT with individual clients and in group therapy. This approach goes beyond symptom reduction and instead focuses on the client’s preferred future, on finding exceptions to problems and identifying competencies. Topics such as self-compassion, optimism, gratitude, and behavior maintenance are explored. In addition to the protocols, two workbooks for clients are available online for download by therapists.

Résumé :
Pediatric trauma is the leading cause of death in children 1 through 14 years old. This chapter includes key information focusing on initial evaluation, triage, and stabilization of children with blunt and penetrating trauma as well as burns (and the “rule of 9s”). The authors discuss specific injuries, including those to the head (traumatic brain injury), thorax, and abdomen; genitourinary area; and orthopedic/long-bone and nonaccidental trauma. Caring for injured children is best performed using advanced trauma life support protocols during the initial assessment. Protocol-driven examination, regardless of injury mechanism, ensures clinicians consider life-threatening injuries in an orderly fashion, starting with the primary survey and moving on to the secondary survey and definitive care. After injuries are identified, priorities shift toward involving the necessary specialists. Key mnemonics in trauma care are explained: the ABCDE initial evaluation, the AMPLE history, and the AVPU categorization of neurologic status.
