Résumé :
Mobile apps are everywhere. The release of apps on a worldwide scale requires them to be made available in many languages, including bidirectional languages. Developers and translators are usually different persons. While automatic testing by itself is important in general in order to be able to develop high quality software, such automatic tests become absolutely essential when developers that do not possess enough knowledge about right-to-left languages need to maintain code that is written for bidirectional languages. A few bidirectional localization tests of mobile applications exist. However, their functionality is limited since they only cover translations and adoption of locales. In this paper we present our approach for automating the bidirectional localization testing for Android applications with a complete consideration for BiDi-languages issues. The objective is to check for any localization defects in the product. The proposed methods are used to test issues of bidirectional apps in general and specifically for the Arabic language. The results show that the methods are able to effectively reveal deficiencies in the app’s design, ensure that the localized app matches all expectations of local users, and guarantee that the product is culturally congruent to local conventions.

Résumé :
SummaryObjective: The objective of this study was to investigate and improve the use of automated data collection procedures for nursing research and quality assurance. Methods: A descriptive, correlational study analyzed 44 orthopedic surgical patients who were part of an evidence-based practice (EBP) project examining post-operative oxygen therapy at a Midwestern hospital. The automation work attempted to replicate a manually-collected data set from the EBP project. Results: Automation was successful in replicating data collection for study data elements that were available in the clinical data repository. The automation procedures identified 32 “false negative” patients who met the inclusion criteria described in the EBP project but were not selected during the manual data collection. Automating data collection for certain data elements, such as oxygen saturation, proved challenging because of workflow and practice variations and the reliance on disparate sources for data abstraction. Automation also revealed instances of human error including computational and transcription errors as well as incomplete selection of eligible patients. Conclusion: Automated data collection for analysis of nursing-specific phenomenon is potentially superior to manual data collection methods. Creation of automated reports and analysis may require initial up-front investment with collaboration between clinicians, researchers and information technology specialists who can manage the ambiguities and challenges of research and quality assurance work in healthcare.Citation: Byrne MD, Jordan TR, Welle T. Résumé :
Summary Objectives: Evidence-based clinical scores are used frequently in clinical practice, but data collection and data entry can be time consuming and hinder their use. We investigated the programmability of 168 common clinical calculators for automation within electronic health records. Methods: We manually reviewed and categorized variables from 168 clinical calculators as being extractable from structured data, unstructured data, or both. Advanced data retrieval methods from unstructured data sources were tabulated for diagnoses, non-laboratory test results, clinical history, and examination findings. Results: We identified 534 unique variables, of which 203/534 (37.8%) were extractable from structured data and 269/534 (50.4.7%) were potentially extractable using advanced techniques. Nearly half (265/534, 49.6%) of all variables were not retrievable. Only 26/168 (15.5%) of scores were completely programmable using only structured data and 43/168 (25.6%) could potentially be programmable using widely available advanced information retrieval techniques. Scores relying on clinical examination findings or clinical judgments were most often not completely programmable. Conclusion: Complete automation is not possible for most clinical scores because of the high prevalence of clinical examination findings or clinical judgments – partial automation is the most that can be achieved. The effect of fully or partially automated score calculation on clinical efficiency and clinical guideline adherence requires further study. Citation: Aakre C, Dziadzko M, Keegan MT, Herasevich V. EXPO2004is the updated version of theEXPOprogram [Altomareet al.(1999).J. Appl. Cryst.32, 339–340]. The traditional steps of theab initiopowder solution process are performed automatically: indexing, space-group determination, decomposition of the pattern for extracting the observed structure-factor moduli, structure solution by direct methods, model refinement by Rietveld technique. Special strategies may be applied to improve both the estimates of the extracted structure-factor moduli and the quality of the structure model. In addition, the use of special procedures exploiting available supplementary information on molecular geometry can be successfully adopted. The graphical interface has also been improved.

Résumé :
WeChat mini-apps are “sub-applications” built within the WeChat platform. Unlike full-function native applications, they are streamlined, “light” versions of the apps, and enable users to open and use them inside WeChat without downloading and installation. Since being introduced by WeChat in 2017, 4.3 million WeChat mini-programs have been developed, and they attract around 410 million daily active users Up to 2021. However, motivated by financial gains, many malicious mini-app developers use some intended description and icon to mislead users to click and open their mini-apps. These mini-apps are full of annoying advertisements and collect users’ privacy information stealthily, which can expose users to privacy risks and financial losses. Although security personnel of WeChat has enforced various countermeasures to prevent malicious phishing mini-apps sneaking into WeChat, rampant malicious leading mini-apps still have been observed recently. In this paper, we present MiniWarner, a novel approach that leverages Natural Language Processing and a number of reverse engineering techniques to detect whether a mini-app is malicious and phishing when users open it. MiniWarner will only ask users whether to continue to open the malicious phishing mini-app, thus it can protect users against the intended misleading by attackers, and still preserve the original user experience. Besides, this approach is implemented as an Xposed module, making it practical to be quickly deployed on a large number of user devices. Our paper will introduce how we developed MiniWarner and the measurement results of MiniWarner in detail.

Résumé :
This article examines the impact of automation on jobs. Since the end of the Great Recession in June 2009, the GDP of the United States has grown 75% as fast as its average between 1948 and 2007. Ordinarily, such growth would spur companies to hire more workers. However, the fact is that overall unemployment has hovered above 9% for most of the past three years and remains stubbornly high. The percentage of working adults is at its lowest level since 1983, when women were still entering the workforce. Instead of hiring workers, companies are now investing in equipment and technology, which rebounded quickly after the recession. Some economists contend that advanced information and communications technology is transforming the economy by capturing jobs that only humans could have done before. They even consider digital technology when looking at the potential causes of unemployment. They also believe this is a sign of deeper structural changes in the economy.

Résumé :
This article discusses developments in flexible automation in the automobile industry. As industry demands growing emphasis on agility, the need for systems with flexibility at scales is becoming critical. Flexible automation is an operational response to this need. Traditional automation systems were extremely limited in scope. Each would do a single task very well over and over again but had little or no ability to adapt to any other task. Although developments in hardware have made automation more flexible, software tends to be the more critical aspect of the system. Much of the flexibility of today’s system comes from the reprogrammability of devices such as tools and material-handling equipment. The area in which flexible automation is most pervasive is the automotive industry. This industry not only has a great need for automation systems but also has the budget to afford such expensive and elaborate systems.

Résumé :
A statistical model of step-scanning of Bragg reflections on an X-ray diffractometer has been suggested [Dietrich (1976). J. Appl. Cryst. 9, 205–208]. A method and software for stability checking of X-ray automatic diffractometers at the user's laboratory have been developed on the basis of this model. The method is an extension of the technique proposed by Dietrich (1976) and reveals the operational instability of the instrument by processing the data of repeated measurements of a reflection intensity profile of a test crystal. The developed software package gives information about the error in initial positioning, the speed instability of the goniometer and the instability of the X-ray source and detector. The method was applied to a number of automatic four-circle X-ray CAD-4 (Enraf–Nonius, Holland) and Syntex (USA) diffractometers. The results obtained indicate that the method has high sensitivity and can be useful for practical crystallographers to reveal defects of their instruments.

Résumé :
One of the factors causing the bankruptcy of a company is bad credit. Therefore, prospective customers need to be selected so that bad credit cases can be minimized. This study aims to determine the classification of credit granting to prospective customers of company X in order to reduce the risk of bad credit. The method used is the binary logistic regression method and the Chi-Squared Automatic Interaction Detection (CHAID) method. In this study, data used in November 2019 were 690 motorcycle credit data for company X in Gresik. The independent variables in this study are the factors that affect bad credit such as gender, marital status, education, employment, income, expenses, home ownership status and the dependent variable is credit status (bad and current). The analysis results show that the binary logistic regression has an accuracy value of 76.38% with an APER of 23.62%, while CHAID has an accuracy value of 93.19% with an APER of 6.81%. The accuracy value of the CHAID method is greater than the binary logistic regression method, while the APER value of the CHAID method is smaller than the binary logistic regression method. So it can be concluded that the CHAID method is better than the binary logistic regression method in classifying bad credit at company X. Résumé :
One of the modern methods of testing new systems and interfaces in vehicles is testing in a vehicle simulator. Providing quality models of virtual scenes is one of tasks for driver-car interaction interface simulation. Nowadays, there exist many programs for creating 3D models of road infrastructures, but most of these programs are very expensive or canÂtt export models for the following use. Therefore, a plug-in has been developed at the Faculty of Transportation Sciences in Prague. It can generate road infrastructure by Czech standard for designing roads (CSN 73 6101). The uniqueness of this plug-in is that it is the first tool for generating road infrastructure in NURBS representation. This type of representation brings more exact models and allows to optimize transfer for creating quality models for vehicle simulators. The scenes created by this plug-in were tested on vehicle simulators. The results have shown that with newly created scenes drivers had a much better feeling in comparison to previous scenes.

Résumé :
Powder pattern indexing can still be a challenge, despite the great recent advances in theoretical approaches, computer speed and experimental devices. More plausible unit cells, belonging to different crystal systems, are frequently found by the indexing programs, and recognition of the correct one may not be trivial. The task is, however, of extreme importance: in case of failure a lot of effort and computing time may be wasted. The classical figures of merit for estimating the unit-cell reliability {i.e.M20[de Wolff (1968).J. Appl. Cryst.1, 108–113] andFN[Smith & Snyder (1979).J. Appl. Cryst.12, 60–65]} sometimes fail. For this reason, a new figure of merit has been introduced inN-TREOR09, the updated version of the indexing packageN-TREOR[Altomare, Giacovazzo, Guagliardi, Moliterni, Rizzi & Werner (2000).J. Appl. Cryst.33, 1180–1186], combining the information supplied byM20with additional parameters such as the number of unindexed lines, the degree of overlap in the pattern (the so-called number of statistically independent observations), the symmetry deriving from the automatic evaluation of the extinction group, and the agreement between the calculated and observed profiles. The use of the new parameters requires a dramatic modification of the procedures used worldwide: in the approach presented here, extinction symbol and unit-cell determination are simultaneously estimated.N-TREOR09benefits also from an improved indexing procedure in the triclinic system and has been integrated intoEXPO2009, the updated version ofEXPO2004[Altomare, Caliandro, Camalli, Cuocci, Giacovazzo, Moliterni & Rizzi (2004).J. Appl. Cryst.37, 1025–1028]. The application of the new procedure to a large set of test structures is described.

We use hypotheses only on the first Fréchet derivative in our local convergence analysis. This way, the applicability of these methods is extended. Moreover the radius of convergence and computable error bounds on the distances involved are also given in this study. Numerical examples illustrating the theoretical results are also presented in this study.

<p>In this paper we present our recent work focused on the analysis of the abilities of Wang Tiles method and Automatic tile design method to synthesize the micro-structure of cellular materials, especially particular type of metal foam.</p><p>Wang Tiles method stores and compress the micro-structure in a set of Wang Tiles and by the means of stochastic tiling algorithms the planar domain is reconstructed. The used tiles are created by the Automatic tile design method from respective number of small specimens extracted from the original micro-structure image. As an additional step the central areas of automatically designed tiles are patched to suppress the influence of repeating tile edges (and relevant tile quarters) on inducing artifacts. In the presented analysis the performance of raw and patched tiles of different sizes in conjunction of various tile sets is investigated.</p>

Résumé :
Stickers are popularly used in messaging apps such as Hike to visually express a nuanced range of thoughts and utterances to convey exaggerated emotions. However, discovering the right sticker from a large and ever expanding pool of stickers while chatting can be cumbersome. In this paper, we describe a system for recommending stickers in real time as the user is typing based on the context of the conversation. We decompose the sticker recommendation (SR) problem into two steps. First, we predict the message that the user is likely to send in the chat. Second, we substitute the predicted message with an appropriate sticker. Majority of Hike's messages are in the form of text which is transliterated from users' native language to the Roman script. This leads to numerous orthographic variations of the same message and makes accurate message prediction challenging. To address this issue, we learn dense representations of chat messages employing character level convolution network in an unsupervised manner. We use them to cluster the messages that have the same meaning. In the subsequent steps, we predict the message cluster instead of the message. Our approach does not depend on human labelled data (except for validation), leading to fully automatic updation and tuning pipeline for the underlying models. We also propose a novel hybrid message prediction model, which can run with low latency on low-end phones that have severe computational limitations. Our described system has been deployed for more than 6 months and is being used by millions of users along with hundreds of thousands of expressive stickers.

Résumé :
An algorithm has been developed for the automatic interpretation of a given set of observed reciprocal-lattice points. It extracts a reduced cell and assigns indices to each reflection by a graph-theoretical implementation of the local indexing method. All possible symmetries of the observed lattice compatible with the metric of the reduced cell are recognized and reported, together with the unit-cell constants and the linear index transformation relating the conventional to the reduced cell. This algorithm has been incorporated into the program XDS [Kabsch (1988). J. Appl. Cryst. 21, 916–924], which is now able to process single-crystal area-detector data without prior knowledge of the symmetry and the unit-cell constants.

Résumé :
Abstract Density management diagrams (DMDs) are widely used within the North American forestry community. DMDs, as traditionally implemented, have some limitations, including lack of automation, poor age and mortality accounting, and inflexible product yield reporting. We propose a model-based approach to circumvent these limitations. Resinosa, an interactive DMD for Lake States red pine, takes this approach. We describe the stand-level, self-thinning-constrained growth model that is the basis for Resinosa to illustrate our arguments. Resinosa allows foresters to make quick and easy comparisons among management regimes.North. J. Appl. For. 22(2):117–123.

Résumé :
SummaryBackground: Establishing a Case Definition (CDef) is a first step in many epidemiological, clinical, surveillance, and research activities. The application of CDefs still relies on manual steps and this is a major source of inefficiency in surveillance and research. Objective: Describe the need and propose an approach for automating the useful representation of CDefs for medical conditions. Methods: We translated the existing Brighton Collaboration CDef for anaphylaxis by mostly relying on the identification of synonyms for the criteria of the CDef using the NLM MetaMap tool. We also generated a CDef for the same condition using all the related PubMed abstracts, processing them with a text mining tool, and further treating the synonyms with the above strategy. The co-occur-rence of the anaphylaxis and any other medical term within the same sentence of the abstracts supported the construction of a large semantic network. The ‘islands’ algorithm reduced the network and revealed its densest region including the nodes that were used to represent the key criteria of the CDef. We evaluated the ability of the “translated” and the “generated” CDef to classify a set of 6034 H1N1 reports for anaphylaxis using two similarity approaches and comparing them with our previous semi-automated classification approach. Results: Overall classification performance across approaches to producing CDefs was similar, with the generated CDef and vector space model with cosine similarity having the highest accuracy (0.825±0.003) and the semi-automated approach and vector space model with cosine similarity having the highest recall (0.809±0.042). Precision was low for all approaches. Conclusion: The useful representation of CDefs is a complicated task but potentially offers substantial gains in efficiency to support safety and clinical surveillance.Citation: Botsis T, Ball R. Résumé :
The significance of digital assistive technology in everyday life of people with disabilities has been continuously increasing during the last decade. An important example is that of the development of mobile apps which are suitably adapted for use by sensory-deprived people. We are involved in developing two such initiatives. The first offers interactive indoor navigation for blind and visually impaired persons, while the second offers deaf people a user-friendly environment for text depiction of the verbal speech, even when the articulation is defective, which is usually the case when the speaker is deaf. Despite the possible benefits of these apps, this does not necessarily signify automatic acceptance. This study aims to examine factors that may inhibit take up, in order to obviate these as much as possible. Factors contributing to the acceptance of technology may be complex, such as ‘perceived usefulness’, ‘self-efficacy’ and ‘social influence’. An exploratory study of this issue will accrue qualitative evidence from the potential users. The paper concludes by presenting recommendations for the development of a tentative modified Technology Acceptance Model that considers the special circumstances around technology use by disability cohorts, to be tested as the research continues. Résumé :
The use of mobile fitness apps has been on the rise for the last decade and especially during the worldwide SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, which led to the closure of gyms and to reduced outdoor mobility. Fitness apps constitute a promising means for promoting more active lifestyles, although their attrition rates are remarkable and adherence to their training plans remains a challenge for developers. The aim of this project was to design an automatic classification of users into adherent and non-adherent, based on their training behavior in the first three months of app usage, for which purpose we proposed an ensemble of regression models to predict their behaviour (adherence) in the fourth month. The study was conducted using data from a total of 246 Mammoth Hunters Fitness app users. Firstly, pre-processing and clustering steps were taken in order to prepare the data and to categorize users into similar groups, taking into account the first 90 days of workout sessions. Then, an ensemble approach for regression models was used to predict user training behaviour during the fourth month, which were trained with users belonging to the same cluster. This was used to reach a conclusion regarding their adherence status, via an approach that combined affinity propagation (AP) clustering algorithm, followed by the long short-term memory (LSTM), rendering the best results (87% accuracy and 85% F1_score). This study illustrates the suggested the capacity of the system to anticipate future adherence or non-adherence, potentially opening the door to fitness app creators to pursue advanced measures aimed at reducing app attrition.
