Résumé :
We study the dynamics of a spherically symmetric thin shell of perfect fluid embedded in d-dimensional Anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime. In global coordinates, besides collapsing solutions, oscillating solutions are found where the shell bounces back and forth between two radii. The parameter space where these oscillating solutions exist is scanned in arbitrary number of dimensions. As expected, AdS3 appears to be singled out.

Résumé :
The entropy of a free scalar field is calculated in the Reissner–Nordström–(anti-)de Sitter spacetimes. Due to the presence of the cosmological horizon in the Reissner–Nordström–de Sitter spacetime, we introduce a cutoff at the cosmological horizon, besides the cutoff at the horizon of black holes in the brick wall model. The entropy is found to be the sum of two terms, which are proportional to the area of the cosmological horizon and of black hole horizon, respectively. In the Reissner–Nordström–anti-de Sitter spacetime the contribution of the anti-de Sitter background to the entropy of scalar fields vanishes when an infinite volume is taken. The entropy of scalar fields is also evaluated in some special backgrounds described by solutions of Einstein–Maxwell equations with a cosmological constant, such as the cold black holes, lukewarm black holes, ultracold solutions, a naked singularity in de Sitter space, and the de Sitter space. The physical meaning of some results is briefly discussed.

The stability of the plane anti-de Sitter spacetime and the gravitational collapse in the plane symmetric anti-de Sitter spacetime are investigated. A scalar curvature singularity will be formed at the r=0 plane when the anti-de Sitter spacetime is perturbed by null dust. By employing the method suggested recently by Husain we find a family of non-static exact solution of the null fluid collapse with equation of state P=kρ in the plane anti-de Sitter spacetime. The late time limit of the solutions results in a black plane solution possessing multiple horizon structure.

Résumé :
We use the Einstein energy–momentum complex to calculate the energy distribution of static plane-symmetric solutions of the Einstein–Maxwell equations in 3+1 dimensions with asymptotic anti-de Sitter behavior. This solution is expressed in terms of three parameters: the mass, electric charge and cosmological constant. We compare the energy distribution to that of the Reissner–Nordström–anti-de Sitter solution, pointing to qualitative differences between the models. Finally, we examine these results within the context of the Cooperstock hypothesis.

Résumé :
This paper is devoted to construct Schwarzschild-de Sitter and anti-de Sitter thin-shell wormholes by employing Visser’s cut and paste technique. The Darmois-Israel formalism is adopted to formulate the surface stresses of the shell. We analyze null and weak energy conditions as well as attractive and repulsive characteristics of thin-shell wormholes. We also explore stable and unstable solutions against linear perturbations by taking two different Chaplygin gas models for exotic matter. It is concluded that the stress-energy tensor components violate the null and weak energy conditions indicating the existence of exotic matter at the wormhole throat. Finally, we find unstable and stable configurations for the constructed thin-shell wormholes.

Einstein's equation with a negative cosmological constant admit solutions which are asymptotically anti-de Sitter. We obtain Vaidya-like solutions to include both a null fluid and a string fluid in nonspherical (plane symmetric and cylindrical symmetric) anti-de Sitter space–times. Assuming that string fluid diffuse, we find analytical solutions to Einstein's field equations. Thus we extend the approach proposed by Glass and Krisch to nonspherical space–times with a negative cosmological constant. Some other exacts solutions are also presented and discussed.

Lifshitz space–times with critical exponent z = 2 can be obtained by dimensional reduction of Schrödinger space–times with critical exponent z = 0. The latter space–times are asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) solutions of AdS gravity coupled to an axion–dilaton system (or even just a massless scalar field). This basic observation is used to perform holographic renormalization for four-dimensional asymptotically locally Lifshitz space–times by dimensional reduction of the corresponding problem of holographic renormalization for five-dimensional asymptotically AdS space–times coupled to an axion–dilaton system. In this setup the four-dimensional structure of the Lifshitz – Fefferman-Graham expansion and the structure of the counterterm action, including the scale anomaly, will be summarized.

In the case of increasing (decreasing) warp factor, there are a finite (infinite) number of nodes and thus a finite (infinite) number of anti-de Sitter island-universes having different gravitational and cosmological constants. This is similar to the landscape models, which postulate a large number of universes with different parameters.

Metric variation of higher order theory of gravity requires fixing of the Ricci scalar in addition to the metric tensor at the boundary. Fixing Ricci scalar at the boundary implies that the classical solutions are fixed once and forever to the de Sitter or anti-de Sitter (dS/AdS) solutions. Here, we justify such requirement from the standpoint of Noether symmetry.

The Einstein–Gordon equations for Friedmann–Robertson–Walker (FRW) geometries in feedback reaction with the quartically self-interacting physical field, arisen from the spontaneous Z2-symmetry breaking, are explicitly formulated. The fixed point exact solutions to the "inner parity" non-invariant Einstein–Gordon system (mandatory) describe (k=-1)-FRW manifolds which actually are either Milne or anti-de Sitter Universes. Résumé :
We construct exact black hole solutions to Einstein gravity with nonlinear electrodynamic field. In these solutions, there are, in general, four parameters. They are physical mass, electric charge, cosmological constant and the coupling constant. These solutions differ significantly from the Reissner–Nordström–de Sitter solution in Einstein–Maxwell gravity with a cosmological constant, due to the presence of coupling constant. For example, some of them are endowed with a topological defect on angle [Formula: see text] and the electric charge of some can be much larger or smaller than their mass by varying the coupling constant. On the other hand, these spacetimes are all asymptotically de Sitter (or anti-de Sitter). As a result, their causal structure is similar to the Reissner–Nordström–de Sitter spacetime. Finally, the investigations on the thermodynamics reveal that the coupling constant except for solution-4 has the opposite effect as temperature on the phase, structure of black holes. Concretely, the phase-space changes from single phase to three phases with the decrease of temperature. On the contrary, it changes from three phases to a single phase with the decrease of coupling constant.

Résumé :
We revisit the propagation of classical scalar fields in a spacetime, which is asymptotically anti-de Sitter. The lack of global hyperbolicity of the underlying background gives rise to an ambiguity in the dynamical evolution of solutions of the wave equation, requiring the prescription of extra boundary conditions at the conformal infinity to be fixed. We show that the only boundary conditions that are compatible with the hypothesis that the system is isolated, as defined by the (improved) energy–momentum tensor, are of Dirichlet and Neumann types.

Résumé :
We present a new class of asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) magnetic solutions in (n + 1)-dimensional dilaton gravity in the presence of an appropriate combination of three Liouville-type potentials. This class of solutions is asymptotically AdS in six and higher dimensions and yields a space–time with a longitudinal magnetic field generated by a static brane. These solutions have no curvature singularity and no horizons but have a conic geometry with a deficit angle. We find that the brane tension depends on the dilaton field and approaches a constant as the coupling constant of the dilaton field goes to infinity. We generalized this class of solutions to the case of spinning magnetic solutions and find that, when one or more rotation parameters are nonzero, the brane has a net electric charge that is proportional to the magnitude of the rotation parameters. Finally, we used the counterterm method inspired by AdS – conformal field theory correspondence and computed the conserved quantities of these space–times. We found that the conserved quantities do not depend on the dilaton field, which is evident from the fact that the dilaton field vanishes on the boundary at infinity.

Résumé :
Abstract While Hod’s conjecture is demonstrably restrictive, the link he observed between black hole (BH) area quantisation and the large overtone (n) limit of quasinormal frequencies (QNFs) motivated intense scrutiny of the regime, from which an improved understanding of asymptotic quasinormal frequencies (aQNFs) emerged. A further outcome was the development of the ‘monodromy technique’, which exploits an anti-Stokes line analysis to extract physical solutions from the complex plane. Here, we use the monodromy technique to validate extant aQNF expressions for perturbations of integer spin, and provide new results for the aQNFs of half-integer spins within higher-dimensional Schwarzschild, Reissner–Nordström, and Schwarzschild (anti-)de Sitter BH spacetimes. Bar the Schwarzschild anti-de Sitter case, the spin-1/2 aQNFs are purely imaginary; the spin-3/2 aQNFs resemble spin-1/2 aQNFs in Schwarzschild and Schwarzschild de Sitter BHs, but match the gravitational perturbations for most others. Particularly for Schwarzschild, extremal Reissner–Nordström, and several Schwarzschild de Sitter cases, the application of n → ∞ generally fixes R e { ω } and allows for the unbounded growth of I m { ω } in fixed quantities.

In this work, the stability of static solutions of spherical thin shell wormholes is analyzed when a slight perturbation (which preserves the basic symmetry) is applied to them. The modified Chaplygin gas (with α = 1 in the equation of state) has been chosen as a candidate for exotic matter needed around the throat. Different cases for such thin shell wormhole construction have been studied, viz. wormholes constructed from Schwarzschild, Schwarzschild–de Sitter, Schwarzschild–anti-de Sitter and Reissner–Nordström metrics. Depending upon the values of the parameters and some restrictions obeyed by them, static stable solutions are seen to exist in some cases.

Résumé :
Inspired by the Bañados, Teitelboim and Zanelli (BTZ) formalism, we discuss the Maxwell-[Formula: see text] gravity in [Formula: see text] dimensions. The main task is to derive exact solutions for a special form of [Formula: see text], with [Formula: see text] being the torsion scalar of Weitzenböck geometry. To this end, a triad field is applied to the equations of motion of charged [Formula: see text] and sets of circularly symmetric noncharged and charged solutions have been derived. We show that, in the charged case, the monopole-like and the [Formula: see text] terms are linked by a correlative constant despite the known results in teleparallel geometry and its extensions.[Formula: see text] Furthermore, it is possible to show that the event horizon is not identical with the Cauchy horizon due to such a constant. The singularities and the horizons of these black holes are examined: they are new and have no analogue in the literature due to the fact that their curvature singularities are soft. We calculate the energy content of these solutions by using the general vector form of the energy–momentum within the framework of [Formula: see text] gravity. Finally, some thermodynamical quantities, like entropy and Hawking temperature, are derived.

The extremal cases also discussed here based on the simple observation that the near-horizon geometry of a static extremal black hole contains two-dimensional anti-de Sitter factor even in the presence of positive cosmological constant. We reformulate the relativistic two-fluid equations with the set of simultaneous linear equations for the perturbations. We derive the dispersion relation for these waves and solve numerically for the wave number k.

Résumé :
In this paper, we present a complete work on steady state spherically symmetric Bondi type accretion flow in the presence of cosmological constant (Λ) in both Schwarzschild-de Sitter (SDS) and Schwarzschild anti-de Sitter (SADS) backgrounds considering an isolated supermassive black hole (SMBH), with the inclusion of a simple radiative transfer scheme, in the pseudo-general relativistic paradigm. We do an extensive analysis on the transonic behavior of the Bondi type accretion flow onto the cosmological BHs including a complete analysis of the global parameter space and the stability of flow, and do a complete study of the global family of solutions for a generic polytropic flow. Bondi type accretion flow in SADS background renders multiplicity in its transonic behavior with inner "saddle" type and outer "center" type sonic points, with the transonic solutions forming closed loops or contours. There is always a limiting value for ∣Λ∣ up to which we obtain valid stationary transonic solutions, which correspond to both SDS and SADS geometries; this limiting value moderately increases with the increasing radiative efficiency of the flow, especially correspond to Bondi type accretion flow in SADS background. Repulsive Λ suppresses the Bondi accretion rate by an order of magnitude for relativistic Bondi type accretion flow for a certain range in temperature, and with a marginal increase in the Bondi accretion rate if the corresponding accretion flow occurs in SADS background. However, for a strongly radiative Bondi type accretion flow with high mass accretion rate, the presence of cosmological constant do not much influence the corresponding Bondi accretion rate of the flow. Our analysis show that the relic cosmological constant has a substantial effect on Bondi type accretion flow onto isolated SMBHs and their transonic solutions beyond length-scale of kiloparsecs, especially if the Bondi type accretion occurs onto the host supergiant ellipticals or central dominant (CD) galaxies directly from ambient intercluster medium (ICM). However, for high mass accretion rate, the influence of cosmological constant on Bondi accretion dynamics, generically, diminishes. As active galactic nuclei (AGN)/ICM feedback can be advertently linked to Bondi type spherical accretion, any proper modeling of AGN feedback or megaparsecs-scale jet dynamics or accretion flow from ICM onto the central regions of host galaxies should take into account the relevant information of repulsive Λ, especially in context to supergiant elliptical galaxies or CD galaxies present in rich galaxy clusters. This could also explore the feasibility to limit the value of Λ, from the kinematics in local galactic-scales.

Résumé :
We explore the issue of gravitational energy localization for static plane-symmetric solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations in 3+1 dimensions with asymptotic anti-de Sitter behavior. We apply three different energy-momentum complexes, the Einstein, Landau-Lifshitz, and Møller prescriptions, to the metric representing this category of solutions and determine the energy distribution for each. We find that the three prescriptions offer identical energy distributions, suggesting their utility for this type of model.

Résumé :
A class of proper and novel generalizations of the (anti) de Sitter solutions (parametrized by a family of radial functions R(r)) are presented that could provide a very plausible resolution of the cosmological constant problem along with a natural explanation of the ultraviolet/infrared (uv/ir) entanglement required to solve this problem. A nonvanishing value of the vacuum energy density of the order of [Formula: see text] is derived in agreement with the experimental observations. The presence of the radial function R(r) is instrumental to understand why the cosmological constant is not zero and why it is so tiny. The correct lower estimate of the mass of the observable universe related to the Dirac–Eddington's large number N = 1080 is also obtained. Finally we present our most recent findings of how Weyl Geometry via a Brans–Dicke scalar field solves the riddle of dark energy in addition to providing another derivation of the vacuum energy density.

In this paper, we prove a well-posedness theorem for the massive wave equation (with the mass satisfying the Breitenlohner–Freedman bound) on asymptotically anti-de Sitter spaces. The solution is constructed as a limit of solutions to an initial boundary value problem with boundary at a finite location in spacetime by finally pushing the boundary out to infinity. The solution obtained is unique within the energy class (but non-unique if the decay at infinity is weakened).

Résumé :
We introduce and discuss the generalized Klein-Gordon second-order partial differential equation in the Robertson-Walker space-time, using the Casimir second-order invariant operator written in hyperspherical coordinates. The de Sitter and anti-de Sitter space-times are recovered by means of a convenient choice of the parameter associated to the space-time curvature. As an application, we discuss a few properties of the solutions. We also discuss the case where we have positive frequency exponentials and the creation and annihilation operators of particles with known quantum numbers. Finally, we recover the Minkowskian case, that is, the case of null curvature.

Résumé :
The Reissner–Nordström black hole solution in a generic cosmological constant background in the context of Rastall gravity is obtained. It is shown that the cosmological constant arises naturally from the consistency of the non-vacuum field equations of the Rastall theory for a spherical symmetric space–time, rather than its ad hoc introduction in the usual Einstein and Einstein–Maxwell field equations. The usual Reissner–Nordström, Schwarzschild, and Schwarzschild – (anti-)de Sitter black hole solutions in the framework of this theory are also addressed as the special independent subclasses of the obtained general solution.

Résumé :
Universal horizons in Hořava–Lifshitz gravity and Einstein-æther theory are the equivalent of causal horizons in general relativity and appear to have many of the same properties, including a first law of horizon thermodynamics and thermal radiation. Since universal horizons are infrared (IR) solutions of a putative power counting renormalizable quantum gravitational theory, fully understanding their thermodynamics will shed light on the interplay between black hole thermodynamics and quantum gravity. In this paper, we provide a complete classification, including asymptotic charges, of all four-dimensional static and spherically symmetric universal horizon solutions with maximally symmetric asymptotics — the equivalents of the Schwarzschild, Schwarzschild–de Sitter or Schwarzschild–anti-de Sitter spacetimes. Additionally, we derive the associated first laws for the universal horizon solutions. Finally, we prove that independent of asymptotic boundary conditions, any spherically symmetric solution in Hořava–Lifshitz gravity with a universal horizon is also a solution of Einstein-æther theory, thereby broadening and complementing the known equivalence region of the solution spaces.

AbstractWe analyze the asymptotic directional structure and properties of gravitational field of specific exact solutions belonging to the large family of black hole spacetimes of type D found by Plebański and Demiański. We discuss the structure in the case of de Sitter (Λ>0) and anti–de Sitter (Λ<0) conformal infinity. With the aim of further interpretation, we have found the relation between the structure of the sources (the mass m, the electric e and magnetic g charges, the NUT parameter l, the rotational parameter a, the acceleration α) and the properties of radiation generated by them. In particular, we studied the amplitude of radiation and illustrated it in several figures.

We conjecture that in asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) space, two solutions of the Wheeler-DeWitt (WdW) equation that coincide asymptotically must also coincide in the bulk. This suggests that the essential elements of holography are already present in canonical gravity. Our argument sheds light on why holography works only in gravitational theories, and also on the significance of AdS boundary conditions.

Résumé :
Motivated by ideas obtained from both ghost condensation and gravitational Higgs mechanism, we attempt to find classical solutions in the unitary gauge in general ghost condensation models. It is shown that depending on the form of scalar fields in an action, there are three kinds of exact solutions, which are (anti-) de Sitter space–time, polynomially expanding universes and flat Minkowski space–time. We briefly comment on gravitational Higgs mechanism in these models where we have massive gravitons of five degrees of freedom and one unitary scalar field (Nambu–Goldstone boson) after spontaneous symmetry breakdown of general coordinate reparametrization invariance. The models at hand are free from the problem associated with the non-unitary propagating mode.
