Résumé :
The paper considers the spatial filtering methods of signals with spectrum overlapping under conditions of a priori uncertainty of the directions of arrival from radio sources. The estimates of the directions of signals arrival obtained by ESPRIT or MUSIC are used in order to build a spatial filter. It is shown that when using ESPRIT, unlike MUSIC, an additional calculations of filter coefficients based on estimates of the directions of signals arrival are not required, and the quadrature components of the signals are formed simultaneously with estimates of the direction of their arrival. The probability of error performances of minimum shift keying signals which were divided by spatial filtering on the basis of ESPRIT and MUSIC using seven-element circular and angular antenna arrays are given.

Résumé :
A new approach to angular selective filtering of the solar radiation without using the sunlight redistribution devices is proposed. Parallel strips of chromogenic materials on two surfaces of the pane(s) form an optical filter having angular selective light transmission. Clarified methods to calculate the optimum slope angle of the strips on the pane(s), their widths and relative position on two surfaces considering the seasonal and daily change in the solar radiation, the location of the building and the window’s azimuth are presented. Such a smart window blocks the direct radiation in a preset angular range and transmits the scattered and reflected radiation that is provides comfortable daylighting indoors.

Résumé :
AbstractSelective transmission or filtering always responds to either frequency or incident angle, so as hardly to maximize signal-to-noise ratio in communication, detection and sensing. Here, we propose compact meta-filters of narrow-frequency sharp-angular transmission peak along with broad omnidirectional reflection sidebands, in all-dielectric cascaded subwavelength meta-gratings. The inherent collective resonance of waveguide-array modes and thin film approximation of meta-grating are employed as the design strategy. A unity transmission peak, locating at the incident angle of 44.4° and the center wavelength of 1550 nm, is demonstrated in a silicon meta-filter consisting of two-layer silicon rectangular meta-grating. These findings provide possibilities in cascaded meta-gratings spectroscopic design and alternative utilities for high signal-to-noise ratio applications in focus-free spatial filtering and anti-noise systems in telecommunications.

Résumé :
In cognitive radio (CR), the sensed aggregate bandwidth could be as large as several GHz. This is especially challenging if the bandwidths and central frequencies of the sensed signals are unknown and need to be estimated. This work discusses a new improved method for MB spectrum sensing (iMB-SS) based on edge detection and using Wavelet Spectrum Filtering. The proposed iMB-SS method uses a Welch power spectrum density (PSD) estimate and a multi-scale Wavelet approach to reveal the spectrum transition (edges), which is deployed to characterize the spectrum occupancy in CR scenarios where the operation frequencies of the primary users (PUs) are unknown. The focus of this work lies in improving the performance of the MB spectrum sensor, particularly by refining the spectral edge location and reducing misleading detection. A comprehensive analytical description and numerical analysis have been carried out by focusing on orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexing (OFDM) signal applications in CR networks. Numerical results corroborate the effectiveness of the proposed iMB-SS approach. The simulated results for the multiple-PU’s OFDM-based transmission CR system demonstrate that the proposed iMB-SS method can achieve high performance even under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime, turning it out as an attractive choice for SS in the MB CR systems.

Résumé :
The feasibility of an optical image edge detection based on metal-insulator-metal (MIM) resonance transmission structures is experimentally investigated. The structures are fabricated on a glass substrate and consist of thin aluminum layers separated by a quartz layer. The excitation of Fabry-Perot modes by an incident wave produces resonance line shapes in angular and wavelength transmission spectra. Resonance enhancement and suppression of beams using the MIM structures can be implemented for suppressing the illuminating beam and amplifying the field scattered by an object. By using the MIM structure under oblique incidence, we experimentally observe the efficient image edge detection for phase optical elements at a set of wavelengths. The obtained images of edges of the elements exhibit a directionality of image edge detection that depends on the direction of inhomogeneity gradient in the object plane, as suggested by the angular transmission spectra of the MIM structures. The results of the present work can find applications in optical information processing and optical filtering systems.

Its first 10 order modes and natural vibration period are obtained. Based on the principle of Kaimal power spectrum and linear filtering method (AR) for simulation time-history of fluctuating wind speed, power spectrum simulation program of wind-speed is got by using Matlab. The rain load simulation is finished on the former simulation. The dynamic analysis of the transmission tower is calculated subject to wind load and rain-wind load. The results demonstrate that wind is the main design load in rain-wind-induced, but the effect of rain shouldn’t be neglected.

This thesis proposes a general formalism to model the acoustic wave propagation in a multilayer consisting of any combination of fluid, isotropic elastic solid, and isotropic poroelastic layers, the method having the flexibility to be extended to include other layer-natures. At a first stage, a stable algorithm is developed, based on the recursive stiffness matrix approach, to model the propagation of a plane wave incident on the multilayer as a function of its incidence angle and frequency. This algorithm merges recursively the structureindividual layers stiffness matrices into one total stiffness matrix and allows then the calculation of the reflection and transmission coefficients, as well as the displacement and stress components inside the multilayer for every incident plane wave direction. Secondly, to model the propagation of a bounded incident wave beam, the angular spectrum technique is used which is based on the decomposition of this beam into a spectrum of plane waves traveling in different directions. The corresponding reflected wave beam in the incidence medium, and the transmitted wave beam in the transmission medium, as well as the fields distributions (displacement and stress components) inside the multilayer are obtained by summing the contribution of all the plane waves traveling in different directions. As a numerical application, a three-layered solid-porous-solid structure immersed in water is simulated. The resulting reflection and transmission as well as the displacement and stress components in the multilayer corresponding to both, the incident plane wave in different directions and the incident bounded beam reveal the stability of the method and the continuity of the displacements and stresses at the interfaces

Both experimental and numerical studies on Liquid Crystal (LC) infiltrated woodpile Photonic Crystal (PhC) are implemented in this thesis. The most well-known optical phenomenon of PhC is photonic bandgap (PBG). It is observed either in frequency or in spatial domain. The former means for a chromatic plane wave propagating though PhC that a range of frequencies do not transmit but reflect. The later means for a monochromatic focused beam passing though PhC that certain angular components do not transmit but deflect or reflect. The most well-investigated optical phenomenon of LC is birefringence. It is due to the strong dielectric anisotropy LC possesses. When the applied stimulations (e.g. electric/ optical field or external heater) are present, the orientation of LC molecules and different refractive indices (e.g. polarization or temperature dependent) are observed. The presence of LC inside PhC not only reduces index contrast (where angular BG appears) but also brings the tunability to such LC-PhC composite device. Therefore band-stop angular filter and sensitive refractometer for liquid material are potential applications controlled by multiple external stimulations. In this thesis, the related physical properties of PhCs and LCs are introduced beforehand. The fabrication of woodpile PhC is also demonstrated. Direct Laser Writing lithography technique is adopted to build microstructures with high resolution up to hundreds of nanometers. A tunable band-stop filter controlled by polarization and temperature is investigated in linear regime. To bridge our investigation to nonlinear regime, dye-doped LC is used to create graded indices inside LC medium corresponding to intensity. Numerical calculations are conducted to the experimental observations. To sum up, LC-PhC composite device possesses very promising features as demonstrated which could be applied into tunable elements in integrated optical systems and its abundant nonlinear properties remains to be explored carefully.

Carrier aggregation (CA) is one the techniques to increase the system bandwidth but with carrier aggregation it increases the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) level to worsen the system performance. In this paper we consider to include a spectral filter with roll-off square-root raised cosine structure or to include the same spectral filter cascading with phase randomization in every component carrier (CC) path to improve the PAPR level. In the phase randomization operation, we use two phase sets which are {1, i, -1, -i} and {1+i, 1-i, -1+i, -1-i}. By calculating all possible combinations, the best phase combination has been selected to use in the system to improve the system PAPR level. One to five CCs are considered in the aggregated transmission system the resulting complementary cumulative distribution function (CCDF) PAPR levels and the total system performances (such as the bit error rate) for each possible aggregated system are simulated and compared when QPSK, 16-QAM, 64-QAM, and 256-QAM modulation formats are considered as the roll-off factor of the square-root raised cosine filter varies from 0 to 1 to change the spectrum filter bandwidth and the best phase combination is selected. The simulation results are tabulated that can be used as the design reference when we are considering the selection of the best roll-off factor for the spectral filter to have the best PAPR performance.

Résumé :
Chapter 3 shows how the logic of noise reduction is anchored in historical discourses on sound and technology, taking a closer look at the development, from the early nineteenth century onward, of some of the most important concepts in physical acoustics and sound engineering. First, it discusses two uncertainty principles fundamental to information theory and communication engineering, which entail compromises that limit the accuracy of any reproduction. Second, it focuses on the mathematical principles of Fourier analysis, which gave rise to the now-familiar representation of sound in terms of a “spectrum” of singular frequencies or “sine waves.” The chapter thereby explores the difference between a timeless, mathematical plane of the ideal filter in which clear, noiseless reproduction always seems possible, and a physical domain of technical filters in which transience and noise haunt every transmission. The contrast between the two, in turn, highlights the important relation between noise and time.

Résumé :
Transmission electron microscopy provides information on all aspects of the microstructure — structural, atomic, chemical, electronic, magnetic, etc. — at the highest spatial resolution in physical and biological materials, with applications ranging from fundamental studies to process metrology in the semiconductor industry. Developments in correcting electron-optical aberrations have improved TEM resolution to sub-Å levels. Coherent Bragg scattering (diffraction), incoherent Rutherford scattering (atomic mass), and interference (phase) are some contrast mechanisms in TEM. For phase contrast, optimum imaging is observed at the Scherzer defocus. Magnetic domains are imaged in Fresnel, Foucault, or differential phase contrast (DPC) modes. Off-axis electron holography measures phase shifts of the electron wave, and is affected by magnetic and electrostatic fields of the specimen. In scanning-transmission (STEM) mode, a focused electron beam is scanned across the specimen to sequentially form an image; a high-angle annular dark field detector gives Z-contrast images with elemental specificity and atomic resolution. Series of (S)TEM images, recorded every one or two degrees about a tilt axis, over as large a tilt-range as possible, are back-projected to reconstruct a 3D tomographic image. Inelastically scattered electrons, collected in the forward direction, form the energy-loss spectrum (EELS), and reveal the unoccupied local density of states, partitioned by site symmetry, nature of the chemical species, and the angular momentum of the final state. Energy-lost electrons are imaged by recording them, pixel-by-pixel, as a sequence of spectra (spectrum imaging), or by choosing electrons that have lost a specific energy (energy-filtered TEM). De-excitation processes (characteristic X-ray emission) are detected by energy dispersive methods, providing compositional microanalysis, including chemical maps. Overall, specimen preparation methods, even with many recent developments, including focused ion beam milling, truly limit applications of TEM.

Résumé :
Digital Lth-band FIR and IIR filters are the special classes of digital filters, which are of particular interest both in single-rate and multirate signal processing. The common characteristic of Lth-band lowpass filters is that the 6 dB (or 3 dB) cutoff angular frequency is located at p/L, and the transition band is approximately symmetric around this frequency. In time domain, the impulse response of an Lth-band digital filter has zero valued samples at the multiples of L samples counted away from the central sample to the right and left directions. Actually, an Lth-band filter has the zero crossings at the regular distance of L samples thus satisfying the so-called zero intersymbol interference property. Sometimes the Lthband filters are called the Nyquist filters. The important benefit in applying Lth band FIR and IIR filters is the efficient implementation, particularly in the case L = 2 when every second coefficient in the transfer function is zero valued. Due to the zero intersymbol interference property, the Lth-band filters are very important for digital communication transmission systems. Another application is the construction of Hilbert transformers, which are used to generate the analytical signals. The Lth-band filters are also used as prototypes in constructing critically sampled multichannel filter banks. They are very popular in the sampling rate alteration systems as well, where they are used as decimation and interpolation filters in single-stage and multistage systems. This chapter starts with the linear-phase Lth-band FIR filters. We introduce the main definitions and present by means of examples the efficient polyphase implementation of the Lth-band FIR filters. We discuss the properties of the separable (factorizable) linear-phase FIR filter transfer function, and construct the minimum-phase and the maximum-phase FIR transfer functions. In sequel, we present the design and efficient implementation of the halfband FIR filters (L = 2). The class of IIR Lth-band and halfband filters is presented next. Particular attention is addressed to the design and implementation of IIR halfband filters. Chapter concludes with several MATLAB exercises for self study.

This paper presents advanced order tracking techniques using the Kalman tracking filter with angular information to extract both close and cross order components from measured dynamic signals. Separated order components can be ranked for the purpose of trouble shooting and design modification. In the study, close-order components resulting from shaft unbalancing and gear meshing of a transmission element test bench can be extracted precisely. In addition, for the pass-by noise measurement of CVT-driving electrical scooters, spectral components can be ranked appropriately for a further noise reduction task.
