Résumé :
Society faces a significant problem in regards to the spread of harmful products in the environment, primarily caused by accelerated growth and resource consumption. Consequently, there is a need for materials to be processed in less harmful ways and to remedy the contaminated sources they generate. Microporous materials have been studied for a long time and are used in waste treatment alternatives. Natural zeolites, on which this study is based, are attractive to the scientific and technological communities, due to their numerous applications as decontaminants and adsorption properties. This study analyzes the intellectual structures of publications related to natural zeolites in environmental remediation, using bibliometric methods to determine their volumes and trends. The methodology comprises of an analysis based on 1582 articles, using VOSviewer software, with data from 1974 to 2020, via the Scopus database. Results reflect a notable increase in publications from the end of the 1990s; the greatest contribution in the area comes from Eurasian countries. The study considers that development in this line of research will continue to increase and serve as a great contribution to preserve the environment in coming years, with themes that focus on water treatment (e.g., drinking water, wastewater, greywater), removal of heavy metals, ammonium, ammonia, and construction.

Résumé :
Small-scale depth-sensing indentation (nanoindentation) is a popular technique for measuring the mechanical properties of a wide range of materials. Contact mechanics solutions used in data analysis are based on the indentation of a homogeneous half-space, but the experiments are frequently conducted on mineralized biological tissues—biocomposite materials with nanometer-scale features—such as bone and dentin. The current study examines the experimental indentation response of bone across orders of magnitude in contact dimension length-scale, from nanometers to micrometers. Scaling arguments are used to establish the need for nanoscale simulations of mineralized tissue indentation. A finite element model of an inhomogeneous contact problem is developed and used to interpret experimental indentation data on bone and dentin. Both experimental data and modeling results demonstrate a convergence in apparent elastic modulus at increasing contact length-scales. Models results are used to estimate a feature size associated with inhomogeneity of the indentation response; for experiments conducted here the characteristic feature size is found to be substantially larger for bone than for dentin, and in both cases larger than for individual nanometer-scale mineral platelets.

Résumé :
This research is a case study belonging to the historical research. The data were taken from the Department of Natural Product Buying and Financial and Controlling XYZ CORP. XYZ CORP is a manufacturing enterprise and exporter of clove oil and its derivatives to the world with a market share of about 55% of the world market. This study aims to empirically examine and study the ethical behavior of suppliers in the ever-changing business environment. The analysis tool used is the Mann Whitney test with SPSS 17.0 software. Based on the survey results it was revealed that for natural raw materials, the average purchase price between the rainy season and the dry season does not differ significantly, but the cost of purchase in the dry season, and the rainy season varies significantly. In this study, the price does not affect the acquisition of raw materials purchased from suppliers. The results of this study also obtained empirical evidence that the trading patterns of natural raw materials are strongly influenced by the behavior or ethics of suppliers, in addition to weather factors or uncertain climate.

Résumé :
Natural fibers generally lack uniformity and large numbers of measurements often must be obtained to achieve estimates of sample parameters having reasonable levels of precision and confidence. This problem calls for automating the measurement and data analysis processes so obtaining a large amount of data is practical. We will discuss hardware and software designs used in our laboratory to automate microscope measurements and data analysis for fibrous materials.Automating the measuring process requires constructing hardware to accomplish several tasks. Hardware should accommodate large-sized samples when they lack uniformity since many measurements are desirable. Sample positioning should be automated to remove the operator from the data acquisition process and eliminate a source of operator-dependent positioning error. Lens focusing should be automated since it is difficult to maintain flatness for large samples and the thickness of many samples exceeds the depth-of-focus of lenses. Finally, the quality of illumination provided to all sample locations during measurement should be flexible and consistent.

Résumé :
Abstract: Natural fiber-reinforced polymer-based composites are increasingly used in modern society due to their numerous benefits for uses in mechanical engineering. Polymer-based composite materials are widely employed in civil construction, automotive, aerospace, and many other industries due to their many benefits. Natural fibers can be used to create new, highperformance polymer materials because they are affordable, environmentally friendly, renewable, and partially and fully biodegradable. Examples of these fibers include EGR Glass R Glass, Carbon fiber, and S Glass, as well as kenaf, pineapple, sugarcane, hemp, oil palm, flax, and leaf. The purpose of this study is to explore the use of natural fibers and composites in the production of airplane wings, including mechanical characteristics, applications, and potential as well as problems and future demand for natural composite materials for engineering uses. A good 50% of the airspace's components are natural composites. Because natural composites have the ability to lower aircraft weight, they are currently being used to construct helicopters, military fighter aircraft, small and large civil transport aircraft, cockpits, satellites, launch vehicles, and missiles. Rudder, spoilers, LG doors, keel beam, airbrakes, elevators, turbine engine fan blades, propellers, rear bulkhead, wing ribs, main wings, interior fixtures, etc. Composites made of natural fibers are attractive and promising. The use of natural fiber-based composite materials is growing daily due to their strength and integrity. The natural fiber is a renewable, environmentally beneficial, and biodegradable raw material. Both its mechanical and thermal insulation qualities are strong in natural fiber. However, the loading placed on the natural fiber and its youthful modulus determines its strength In addition to discussing the benefits of natural fibers over other materials, this paper provides a description of the several types of natural fiber, their physical and mechanical properties, and their advantages.

Résumé :
The analysis of reinforced polymers is one of the most important sources of information for materials properties designers. In this regard, due to their intrinsic properties, the fabrics play an essential role when they are used as reinforcement elements. The composites properties can be designed by alternating various types of fabrics, by modifying the orientation of every reinforcement layer, by modifying the matrix properties or by choosing the matrix. This study regards the tensile behavior of four fabric reinforced composites with four different epoxy resins as matrix. All the materials have the same reinforcement structure but the matrix is, in each case, another epoxy resin and more two classes of materials had been studied one is containing the natural polymerized matrix materials and the other one the materials that had been thermally treated according to technical sheet of each polymer. The tests were done one year after the materials formation.

Résumé :
In descriptive sensory techniques, reference materials are used to establish a common vocabulary for various aromas and flavors. A reference standard can be any chemical or natural material that adequately represents the particular characteristic described. This paper evaluates the utility of various reference materials that have been proposed as odor standards. The odor reference library used included odors commonly attributable to microbiological and industrial sources. The results of utilizing reference standards demonstrated that some materials were very good; that is, they yielded a distinctive odor that transcended cultural and language differences, as well as different levels of experience. Other aromas required several standards to distinguish among subtle but important differences, e.g., geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol to differentiate earthy/musty odors. These standards also included natural materials prepared in various states to reference different types of common odors in water - for example, grass clippings (in water) that had been freshly cut to represent a grassy odor, or had been held for a week to represent a septic odor, as well as dried grass for a hay odor. Other reference materials yielded bimodal distributions in which, primarily, two groups centered around different descriptors; these kinds of materials would not make good reference standards.

Résumé :
In nature, there is a large number of materials to be discovered, all with different characteristics and for certain functions. In the case of plants, they are responsible for collecting, taking care and protect water naturally. In Mexico there are different plants of the cactus family, which catch and retain water for their existence, so some plants collect more volume of body water than they have. It is very important for this investigation. In Mexico and throughout the continent there is a common cactus or chumbera that easily adapts to the environment and very rampant in this country, so that its study and analysis makes it one of the most important natural systems for this research, because 95% of it is water and the other 5% is organic material.Later, the common Maguey or agave plant is analyzed, which is important for the history of ancient Mexico, this long before the Spaniards arrived in America. The agave juice and whole plant were an important part of Mexican culture [1], even today is used in many regions and is an important part of the economy in this country.Last but not least is the barrel cactus plant, which surprisingly lets us see how natural systems build structural and formal elements in order to the creation and configuration of new materials that can significantly help to collect water.

Résumé :
Abstract The interactions of silica filler in zinc activated, sulfur vulcanized cis-1,4-polyisoprene (IR) were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR)-Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR) spectroscopy. The variables examined were increased levels of silica and quality of mixing of the batch. The increased silica level resulted in band broadening and a frequency shift to lower wavenumbers of the silica absorbance region (1250-1000 cm−1) due to a combination of physical and chemical adsorption of the rubber and parts of cure system on the silica surface. The peaks that appeared near 1040 and 1017 cm−1 were attributed to physical interactions between silica and the natural rubber. However some chemical bonding of the IR was present as a result of a free radical reaction that takes place during the milling process. Inefficient mixing had an affect comparable to adding less filler, according to the results above. That is, there was less “effective” filler in the poorly mixed samples because poor dispersion promotes agglomeration of the polar silica in the nonpolar hydrocarbon rubber.

Résumé :
The raw materials from household garbage and industrial waste have increased its usage in the concrete and cement industries. These eco-materials have helped the environment, avoiding pollution, land filling or burning of waste and the usage of other natural resources. However, the cost of many eco-materials is still higher than that of common natural materials. It is necessary to study in detail its behavior and properties to decrease its cost and increase its performance. This research deals with Eco-cement and molten slag aggregate which main raw materials are household garbage and industrial waste. Concretes produced with Portland cement and Eco-cement were mixed with gravel, limestone, quartz and molten slag aggregates to compare its properties. The fracture energy, strength and modulus of elasticity tests were performed and discussed in this paper. The concretes produced with Eco-cement and molten slag aggregate show better results than those produced with Portland cement and natural aggregates.

The influence of thermal inertia time, internal areal heat capacity, as well dimensionless index of thermal inertia D, the total thermal resistance of the walls Rtot-value, mass of the wall assembly and its cost have been taken into consideration as important influence factors. The multi-criteria numerical assessment of envelope’s energy efficiency potential was performed by two popular methods – Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) as the subjective weighting method and Grey Relation Analysis (GRA) as the objective weighting method. Both of methods allow to arrange the alternatives and could be applied as decision support tools in decision making (DM) process of choosing the best alternative in terms of multi-criteria assessment. For more objective analysis, by taking into account the variety of physical and physical-mechanical parameters of the wall assembly material, the concept of generalized index of the envelope energy efficiency potential is proposed. Conducted research has shown that the best envelope type in terms of of generalized index of energy efficiency potential has the hempcrete wall and hemcrete+straw wall, almost three times smaller has the wall of the earthbags. The walls from adobe, cordwood and strawbale panels have practically the equal value of generalized index of energy efficiency potential. It could be observed that AHP method shown more inhomogeneous results, than GRA. The possible reason for that is the difference in evaluation attitude in techniques - AHP is considered as the subjective method with pairwise comparison matrixes, while GRA is objective method of comparison.

Résumé :
The regulations of legislative bodies regarding the recycling and reusage of automotive materials has caused a great deal of obligation among automotive manufacturers to use natural fibres or green composites. Green composites or more commonly known as bio-composites are made up of natural fibres. Natural fibres are used by humankind since prehistoric times. The natural fibre is obtained from plants as well as animals. Since the natural fibre is obtained from natural as well as biological resources, it is biodegradable and recyclable. This paper presents the study and analysis conducted to address the suitability of natural fibre in the automotive industry. This paper discusses the finite element analysis of four different natural fibre composites used for making car door panel, i.e., flax, jute, sisal, and leather are taken for the material study. This paper helps to find the effectiveness of each of the four natural fibre composites that have already been used in the automotive sector. This paper includes the analysis of four different natural fibres with and without the addition of the aluminium as the reinforcement material. This project revolves around the design of the composite fibre sheet and analysis of the mechanical parameters such as equivalent stress, shear stress, strain, deformation, and so on. The studies and observations of the analysis showed that the natural fibre with the aluminium reinforcement proved to be much stronger than that without the reinforcement. The results of finite element analysis showcased lowest total deformation and equivalent strain in the flax as 1.026 m and 0.017 mm/mm, respectively. However, sisal showed the lowest equivalent stress and shear stress which were 68.09 and 38.178 MPa, respectively. Additionally, leather showed the highest amount of stress, strain, and deformation, and hence leather was deemed to have undesirable properties regarding the usage in car door panels. All the materials except leather were found to be safe under the loading conditions. Hence, the flax fibre is recommended by the project to have superior properties compared to the other materials.

Résumé :
The use of an air conditioner (AC) increases the use of compressors and electricity supply quite significantly. This will increase global warming and the occurrence of an energy crisis. Referring to this, a cooling system that is more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly is needed. One alternative is to use natural materials as adsorbents in adsorption air conditioning. In this system, changes in humidity levels occur due to the process of absorption of air moisture in each test material in the packed bed. The purpose of this research is to determine the regeneration characteristics of natural materials and activated carbon, as well as their performance against moisture. The characteristics tested also include contact angle test and proximate test. In addition to the type of material, mass variations of 200gr, 400gr, and 600gr are also carried out as well as variations in the combination between materials. The results obtained from the regeneration test 9 times, natural ingredients affect air conditioning. The larger the mass tested, the greater its ability to reduce humidity. In another sense, 600gr activated carbon provides the most optimal performance among other natural materials, both in mass variations and combined variations.

Résumé :
Abstract It is not an overstatement to say that natural rubber (NR) is one of the most used polymers. There are numerous studies dealing with the structural aspects of rubber which give rise to its elastic property. However, it should be emphasized that the majority of these studies are generally concerned with rubber in the vulcanized state or, in fact, dealing with the vulcanization process. Relatively few studies have actually been directed at a better understanding of the composition, structure, and properties of raw rubber. This area of study is also important because the composition and the structure of NR differ from synthetic polyisoprene in that the presence of functional groups on main chains and nonrubbery materials, such as proteins, can significantly affect the rheological properties and the processing conditions of rubber before the vulcanization process. Raw rubber can be divided into two different fractions, sol (soluble part) and gel (insoluble part). Of course, this definition depends somewhat on the solvent used. Even though the main chain in both portions of rubber are chemically similar, their significantly distinct mechanical properties have, in fact, been attributed to the nonrubbery materials such as proteins interacting with isoprene chains. It is generally accepted that the amount of nonrubbery materials in the gel fraction is much higher than the sol fraction. The protein apparently interacts quite strongly with specific functional groups on the isoprene chain and is difficult to remove from the gel phase by physical means. It is probable that the different properties between sol and gel rubber is due to the amount of crosslinking of the main chains, but several aspects of the structure need to be answered in greater detail. We know, for example, that the amount of gel fraction can change as a function of extraction solvent. Therefore, one cannot conclude that the interaction between rubber chains even in the gel fraction is strictly chemical in nature. Our premise is that the protein is an important component connecting the isoprene chains.

Résumé :
The aim of this research was to enhance thermal stability of aliphatic polyester blends via incorporation of selected natural antioxidants of plant origin. Thermal methods of analysis, including differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TGA), are significant tools for estimating the stabilization effect of polyphenols in a polymer matrix. Thermal stability was determined by analyzing thermogravimetric curves. Polymers with selected antioxidants degraded more slowly with rising temperature in comparison to reference samples without additives. This property was also confirmed by results obtained from differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), where the difference between the oxidation temperatures of pure material and polymer with natural stabilizers was observed. According to the results, the materials with selected antioxidants, including trans-chalcone, flavone and lignin have higher oxidation temperature than the pure ones, which confirms that chosen phytochemicals protect polymers from oxidation. Moreover, based on the colour change results or FT-IR spectra analysis, some of the selected antioxidants, including lignin and trans-chalcone, can be utilized as colorants or aging indicators. Taking into account the data obtained, naturally occurring antioxidants, including polyphenols, can be applied as versatile pro-ecological additives for biodegradable and bio-based aliphatic polyesters to obtain fully environmentally friendly materials dedicated for packaging industry.

Résumé :
The paper considers the problems of environmental pollution by radiation-hazardous and environmentally harmful elements. Radiation-hazardous pollution occurs in several directions, namely under the influence of constant natural radiation background, due to Chernobyl emissions, nuclear energy production, pollution of rivers and lakes, the use of building materials with high content of natural radionuclides. At present, Ukraine has suspended comprehensive measures to reduce radiation pollution in the construction industry due to the lack of effective methods to combat environmental safety and improve the demographic situation in the country. As ways to increase the radiation-protective properties of building materials, variants of structural models, construction technologies are considered, the introduction and improvement of which is a prospect of scientific development of the construction industry. For environmentally safe, economically feasible, systematically operated operation of building structures and construction sites in general, it is essential to adhere to the principles of radiation protection by optimizing the resource characteristics of the respective facilities. Therefore, the analysis of the relevance of the above methods of creating high-quality building materials, taking into account the indicators of increasing the radiation-protective properties of building materials.

Résumé :
Stabilization was applied as a remediation option for immobilizing lead (Pb) in contaminated mine soil. Four types of waste materials were used as stabilizing agents, namely waste oyster shells (WOS), calcined oyster shells (COS), natural starfish (NSF), and spent-coffee-grounds-derived biochar (SCGB). The Pb-contaminated mine soil was treated with the stabilizing agents ranging from 0 to 10 wt% and a curing period of 28 days. The toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP) was employed for evaluating the effectiveness of the remedial process. The Pb immobilization mechanism in the treated mine soil was investigated using scanning electron microscopy–energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) analyses. The obtained results showed that the TCLP Pb levels decreased as the stabilizing agent dosage increased. The WOS and COS stabilizing agents immobilized Pb effectively in the contaminated mine soil. Application dosages of 4 wt% and 2 wt% for WOS and COS, respectively, were sufficient for compliance with the TCLP regulatory level of 5 mg/L. For the NSF and SCGB treatments, 4 wt% and 10 wt%, respectively, were necessary to meet the TCLP regulatory limit. The effectiveness of Pb immobilization was found to increase in the following order: SCGB < NSF < WOS < COS. The chemical fraction analyses showed that the lower F2 (weak acid soluble) fraction and higher F3 (reducible) and F4 (oxidizable) fractions were most likely associated with the high level of Pb immobilization. Moreover, the SEM-EDX analysis results showed that the most effective Pb immobilization could be strongly associated with the pozzolanic reaction products.
