Texte intégralThis dissertation examines the place of women in the medieval town of Amiens and demonstrates the continuing significance of women’s participation in diverse aspects of social and economic life during the historical shift from the medieval to the early modern era. This city adhered to a unique legal system called ‘picard-wallon’, which was particularly favourable to women, making them the owners of half of the family patrimony. Since family structures played a determining role in the ideological choices and economic behaviour of family members, the institution of community property between spouses allows us to consider women as legitimate economic agents. The study of women’s activity in the marketplace in particular, shows that we should first rethink the public/private dichotomies that have long been applied to gender studies. This work also highlights the nature of women’s contribution to the medieval society. Public space fostered orality and the production of specific speech acts. The study of women’s involvement in crime shows that they were not afraid of defending their honour if necessary. Therefore, this dissertation sheds light on the reinforcement of the public order at the end of the Middle Ages and its consequences on gender relations at the beginning of the early modern period. Finally, this dissertation makes use of new methodological perspectives. By focusing on a place of syncretism, at the intersection of three different regional areas, this study highlights the multi-cultural influences at work in the city in order to interrogate the relevance of classical periodization and establish the importance of a transdisciplinary approach to medieval studies

Texte intégralUsing the sociometric test devised by J. L. Moreno, we study how children from different cultural backgrounds relate to one another at primary school. In a more specific manner, we shall concentrate on the relationships between children from North African backgrounds and French children. We shall see if there is a link between the degree of openness of their families to members of foreign communities and the way the children relate to each other when it comes to choose or reject a friend from a different community. Although children are more likely to make friends within their own communities, this does not mean they systematically discriminate against the out-group. The older the children are, the more united the in-group seems to be, but groups behave differently according to their cultural backgrounds. Moreover, the size of groups within classes seems to have an effect on the way children relate to each other. The cultural openness of mind of the families tend to facilitate

Texte intégralThe last three years have been extremely rich to the democratic and associative life of Amiens. They gave the opportunity to the newly elected municipal majority to not only change the general pattern of organization and operation of the city, but also to fundamentally change the relational space and local representation. The study presented here examines the factors of this transformation, its meaning, its nature and its effectiveness. The foundation of the study relies on the analysis of the theoretical and practical framework of such a political restructuring, on the observation of the forty meetings organized for this purpose, as well as the opinions and reactions of more than thirty participant-witnesses. In this perspective, the study looks, locally, at three major aspects of this participatory process: the citizen, the strategic, and the political aspects. And it seems in this respect that all three dimensions of public action have probably influenced the course of the process

Texte intégralThe studies on national political behaviours do not always allow us to study the local political phenomena. On the contrary, a precise analysis of local political behaviours can explain national political evolutions. Bearing all this in mind, we have studied the implantation of the socialist party, since 1977, in the little towns of less than 4000 inhabitants of the periphery of rennes. The aim of the thesis consisted in determinating the factors allowing the study of the conquest of these towns by the socialists. So, we used parameters concerning social and political environment. The relevance of these parameters allowed us to identify the renewal of the electorate, the persistence of political behaviours correlated to a cultural or a political tradition. Then a study carried out concerning the social and the professional itenarary of the mayors and the part played by political and parapolitical structures. Finally, to define the interaction of the local and the national, we studied the vote of these towns at national elections. The study enabled us to measure the relevance of the factors we had chosen to analyse the local implantation of a party and try and find out whether people determined their vote according to attitudes towards issues or on ideological tendencies
