Résumé :
In the Neotropics, orphnine scarab beetles are represented by the endemic tribe Aegidiini Paulian, 1984 with five genera and over 50 species. Phylogenetic analysis based on morphological characters of all supraspecific taxa of Orphninae showed that Aegidiini is comprised of two lineages. New subtribes, Aegidiina subtr. nov. (Aegidium Westwood, 1845, Paraegidium Vulcano et al., 1966, Aegidiellus Paulian, 1984, and Onorius Frolov & Vaz-de-Mello, 2015, and Aegidininasubtr. nov. (Aegidinus Arrow, 1904) are proposed to better reflect this phylogeny. Two new species of Aegidinus are described: A. alexanderisp. nov., from the Yungas in Peru and A. elbaesp. nov. from the Caqueta moist forests ecoregion in Colombia. A diagnostic key to Aegidinus species is given.

Résumé :
What is remarkable about Hegel's creative activity (in the period 1808-12) is the diversity of its contrasts: his thinking and writing of The Science of Logic was going on while he was caught up in the daily tasks of newspaper editorship and then of school-teaching and administration. The contrast is enhanced if we include his Philosophical Propaedeutic here, and place it against The Science of Logic. (We can regard them as having been written almost simultaneously.) The latter book is intended for the learned specialist, and is concerned with elucidating the ultimate structure of reality in the most abstract terms. As a work of philosophy it is technical to an extreme; it is his most recondite work, making no concessions to the difficulties a reader might encounter. The Philosophical Propaedeutic, on the other hand, is intended for the student at secondary school and junior college, and is concerned in part with the concrete social values embedded in social morality and religion. As a work, it is entirely accessible and “open”, and it represents Hegel's attempt to lead his students from their view of the immediate social reality up to an all-encompassing world-vision. (There is a further contrast in the fact that it was not written as a book at all, but as a series of lecture-notes, and was put together as a book by Karl Rosenkranz, nine years after Hegel's death.) Obviously it was because there was no university post for him that he accepted the position of Rector and Professor of Philosophy at the Aegidien Gymnasium in Nuremberg, in 1808. Yet his acceptance was not accompanied by the attitude of faute de mieux -- as though “the speculative Pegasus were being harnessed to the wagon of schoolwork.”

Summary The lexicographical part of the Catholicon of Giovanni Balbi of Genoa (d.1286), compiled in 1286, was the dominant Latin dictionary of the 15th century and the first major Latin dictionary to be printed: 24 editions recorded from the 1460s to 1500, another 7 from 1501 to 1520. In the twenty-five years before the final edition, two attempts were made to refurbish it, one by a certain Master Petrus Aegidius in 1499 and one by the humanist Jodocus Badius Ascensius (1462–1535) in 1506. Their editions were meant to maintain the place of a 13th-century dictionary in the world of humanist reference publishing. This paper gives an account of Aegidius’ and Badius’ additions to the Catholicon, emphasising both the intellectual content of their work and the dictionary’s place in the history of the learned book. The paper concludes with an account of how the Catholicon was driven out of the market by a dictionary compiled in the late 15th century, the Dictionarium of Ambrogio Calepino (c.1435–1511), published from 1502 onwards. An appendix sets out the editions of the Catholicon from 1499 onwards, with title page transcriptions.

Résumé :
The article analyzes the methods of transcribing an anonymous Latin hagiography of St. Aegidius (British Library manuscript Tiberius Div, volume 2, 84v-87r, late eleventh century) by an anonymous author of an Old English hagiography of the same saint (mid-twelfth-century manuscript, Corpus Christi College Cambridge C 303). Errors in manuscript CCCS 303 show that the scribe copied an earlier Old English text of the eleventh century, not always understanding it well. But overall, the twelfth-century manuscript retains most of the features consistent with the norm of the eleventh-century Wessex dialect. The lexicon of the Old English text includes a number of Latin loanwords, as well as one word of Scandinavian origin. Some deviations from the written norm in phonetics and morphology show the influence of colloquial speech. The emphasis on the omnipotence of God and on the saint’s close personal contacts with God, not so noticeable in the Latin version, leads to an expansion of St. Aegidius’ epithets compared to the Latin source. The changes in the method of narration concern the rejection of ancient rhetorical techniques, primarily rhetorical questions; the replacement of historical details; and the expansion of Gospel allusions. At the same time, the Old English narrative is characterized by an increase in the emotional mood and dramatization of the story, including through the introduction of monologues and dialogues.

Résumé :
In sixteenth-century Germany, a particular financial operation called widerkaufflicher Zins or five percent contract sparked massive legal and theological controversies. This contract produced effects like a loan and therefore countered the interest-taking prohibition. Martin Luther (1483-1546), Philipp Melanchthon (1497-1560), Johannes Brenz (1499-1570), Johannes Aepinus (1499-1553), Urbanus Rhegius (1489-1541), Martin Chemnitz (1522-1586), Aegidius Hunnius (1550-1603), and Johann Gerhard (1582-1637) addressed this issue. They ended up reformulating the prohibition on interest and mapping out a set of rules for the right use of this contract. This article will survey their opinions paying attention to the points where their teachings resembled the Catholics or where they took a different path.

AbstractIn this article, new important instances of the favourable reception of Augurello's Chrysopoeia (1515) are discussed: a) the 21 editions of the poem, but especially the 1518 edition of Froben, and the Chrysopoeiae compendium paraphrasticum of 1614; b) the marginal notes of Aegidius de Vadis, Giulio Camillo Delminio, and an anonymous author in (manuscript) copies of Augurello's work; c) Henricus Cornelius Agrippa, De incertitudine et vanitate scientiarum declamatio inuectiua (1531), chapter XC on alchemy; and finally d) Ioannes Agrippa, Vellus aureum (1560). It is shown that the Chrysopoeia was read on account of both its contents and elegant language and style. This fortunate combination explains the 'classical' status the poem has acquired within alchemical literature.

The concern for these request lies in the information which they supply about the sociopolitic relations and clientèle networks related to the Leonese clergy, as far as most of the clergymen who obtain benefices are relatives and protégés of important persons, such as king Pedro I, princess Beatriz or cardinals Guillermus and Aegidius de Albornoz. Finally, it must be remarked that most of the requests are benefices in the Leonese cathedral chapter, because they provided a greater income.</span>

Résumé :
The study of legal practice, legal theory, and the issuing of law in early medieval Europe has seen a fundamental paradigm shift over the past three decades as scholars have rejected an older model of the Germanic invasions and/or migrations toppling Roman civilization in the lands of the erstwhile western Empire. It is now well understood that the so-called “barbarian law codes” were, in fact, composite bodies of law drawn from a variety of Roman sources, including not only the compendia produced under the auspices of Emperors Theodosius II (402‐450) and Justinian (527‐565), but also Roman provincial law and Roman military law. This new understanding of the enormous influence of Roman law, in its many forms, on early medieval legal thinking and practice was driven by a detailed re-evaluation of legal texts, which continues unabated to the present day. The volume under consideration here, the revised doctoral dissertation of Dominik Trump completed at the University of Cologne, offers a close examination of an epitome of the Lex Romana Visigothorum, issued by King Alaric II between 505‐507. This epitome, called the Epitome Aegidii after its first editor Pieter Gillis (1486‐1533), played a significant role in both legal studies and practice in the Regnum Francorum because of its great utility. As Trump observes, despite its brevity the Epitome Aegidii has the same range of sources as the Lex Romana. These are the Codex Theodosianus, novellae from after the reign of Theodosius, Pseduo-Pauline sentences, the Codex Gregorianus, the Codex Hermogenionus, and a short responsum from Aemilius Papinianus. The Epitome, therefore, provides yet another index of the value with which legal thinkers and practitioners in early medieval Europe regarded the choices made by the advisors of King Alaric when designing and executing his legal compendium.

Résumé :
Abstract This article establishes a connection between the decisions of the Fourth Lateran Council and Der Pfaffe Amis, a work by the Knitter. Doing so results in totally new perspectives on the work, which is therefore connected to anticlerical literature. Der Pfaffe Amis is not just a comedy, as researchers thought, but it stands in continuity with Latin poems like, e.g., the Hierapigra ad purgandos praelatos by Aegidius of Corbeil or the work Speculum prelatorum by an unknown author. The single episodes have a class-based structure in their composition, in which the last two mercurial episodes abandon the legal purview of the church, besides being highly criminal under the laws at the time, but because of the Council’s decisions, they would still lead to the eternal salvation of the priest’s soul.

Résumé :
AbstractThis article maps the textual transmission of the Vita S. Aegidii to identify the routes of its reception in Anglo-Saxon England. It shows how the Mass of Giles in Leofric's Missal offers new evidence of Leofric's links to the Liège area. The collation between the Old English Life of St Giles and the critical edition of the Latin source indicates first that the Life was translated from a Latin copy related to Vatican, Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, Reginensis 497, containing a palimpsest of the Old English Orosius; second, it highlights the continuing exchanges between the Trier region and England in the eleventh century; and third, it applies inter-lingual transmission in order to understand translation practice. A new edition and translation of the Latin vita are included.

Résumé :
The isopod Rocinela signata Schioedte & Meinert, 1879 (Aegidae) is largely recorded in literature as ectoparasites of marine fishes; however, the full list of hosts is still far from complete. We report the occurrence of R. signata as ectoparasite from a new host: Lutjanus purpureus (Poey, 1866), an important fishery resource in the northern region of Brazil, collected from the Great Amazon Reef System (GARS), Brazil. Four specimens of R. signata were observed parasitizing three specimens of L. purpureus, collected during the fishery operations, using a manzuá trap along the continental shelf of the Amapá State. The presence of R. signata in the GARS expands its geographic distribution (the northernmost Brazilian record), additionally, the occurrence of R. signata in deeper waters than previously reported (~90 m), and its new host interaction.

Résumé :
For Henry of Ghent, prime matter, against Thomas Aquinas and Aegidius Romanus opinion, is something substantial owning an essence and an essential being coming directly from God. Matter receives being in act from form in the compound. In fact, matter in any composed substance owns a triple three being: the simple being as creature, the being capable of receiving forms that comes from its essence and the being in act coming from form. God, by means of a miraculous action giving an special subsistence to the essential being, could make prime matter to exist without any form. Matter, though simple, encloses in its essence a double reason: the reason of substance (esse per se) and the reason of reference (ad aliud). Matter in itself does not own any active power or seminal reason capable of becoming substantial forms; seminal reasons are in the form of the agent that prepares the previous informed matter and introduces in it a new substantial form.

Résumé :
The essay explores the question of the evidence of distinct Lutheran and Reformed confessional practices of exegesis particularly concerning interpretations of Old Testament prophecy. It begins by outlining differences in Martin Luther and John Calvin’s practices of christological exegesis and vision of sacred history in their interpretations of the Minor Prophets. Next, it traces the evolution of these differences in a set of figures from the next generation of Lutheran and Reformed exegetes in order to discern whether consistent patterns emerge to indicate ways in which biblical interpretation shaped confessional identity. Through a survey of commentaries on the Minor Prophets by a set of next generation Lutherans (Philip Melanchthon, Aegidius Hunnius, Lucas Osiander, and Nicolas Selnecker) and next generation Reformed (David Pareus, Lambert Daneau, Johannes Drusius, and Johannes Piscator) the author provides a picture of how biblical interpretation did indeed play a significant role in the formation and expression of confessional identity in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries.

Résumé :
This article explores the intersection between friendship and artistic collaboration through a focus on the engraving production of a group of itinerant Netherlandish artists who, in the wake of the Dutch Revolt, lived and worked in Munich, seat of the court of Wilhlem V. The first part of this contribution introduces Joris Hoefnagel, several printmakers from the Sadeler dynasty and other artists active in Munich. An analysis of the artistic gifts which the Netherlanders exchanged in Munich suggests that they enjoyed membership of an egalitarian circle sustained by friendship and artistic aspirations. The second half of the article examines the engraved series Salus Generis Humani (1590): the co-creation of Joris Hoefnagel, Aegidius II Sadeler and Hans von Aachen. Through a collaborative working practice, the three artists conceived engravings that self-reflectively alluded to their composite facture and which constituted another expression of the humanist friendship underpinning their professional and personal contacts.

Résumé :
The parasitic isopod Syscenusinfelix is recorded from the Mediterranean, based on 19 specimens from a depth range of 375–2071 m. The first ovigerous female of the species is also recorded. Patterns of possible parasitism were suggested based on the depth distribution of S. infelix, and their possible host macrourid fish below 900 m depth in the Catalano-Balearic basin.

Résumé :
A new brachypterous species of the scarab beetle genus Orphnus Macleay, 1819, O. (O.) brevialatus Frolov & Akhmetova, new species, is described from Kipengere Range (Livingstone Mountains), Tanzania. The new species differs from other flightless Orphnus species occurring in East Africa in having a well-developed pronotal armature with two long, acute lateral processes. In the shape of the head, pronotum, and male genitalia it is similar to O. compactilis Quedenfeldt, 1882, but differs from it, in addition to the reduced wings and shorter body, in the shape of the endophallic armature. Flightlessness is rather common among the orphnines: 56 orphnine species out of 235 have the wings reduced to different degree making them incapable of flight, although this is a preliminary minimum figure. Flightless species are found in Hybalus Dejean, 1833, Chaetonyx Schaum, 1862, Orphnus Macleay, Hybaloides Quedenfeldt, 1884, Aegidium Westwood, 1845 and Stenosternus Karsch, 1881. All regional orphnine faunas except for Indo-Malayan and Madagascan include flightless species, although flightlessness is more common in African taxa.
