The study analyses the Hungarian and Austrian adoption laws that inspired lawmakers of the Czechoslovak Act No. 56 of 1928 Coll. As the Hungarian and Austrian laws, the Czechoslovak Act of 1928 on Adoption recognised adoption as a contract to ensure an heir. It advocated compliance with the principle adoptio naturam imitatur. Therefore, it helped to improve the social and legal position of abandoned and neglected children. For lawmakers, the primary inspiration source was the Austrian General Civil Code (ABGB). Nonetheless, several provisions of the ABGB were identical with the Hungarian customary law, court practice, and office practice. Adopters had to be childless, older than forty years of age, and a minimum of eighteen years older than the adoptees. Married persons could adopt only with the consent of their spouses (in this, the influence of the ABGB was the strongest). Contrary to ABGB, but under the Hungarian court practice, was the possibility for a man to adopt his illegitimate biological child. It was possible to adopt majors as a limitation to the principle adoptio naturam imitatur. Adoption was a contractual relationship. It established a relation only between the adopter and adoptee, while the relationships of the adoptee with the birth family continued. For instance, if the adopter failed in his duty to aliment the adoptee, the biological father had a supportive legal obligation to pay alimony. The main goal of the adoption process was to produce an heir. For this reason, we can conclude that the interests of adopters prevailed over the interests of adoptees. It changed radically after 1949, and the most important in the adoption process has become the best interest of the child.

This article analyzes the substantive law and conflict of laws law of such countries as Austria, Venezuela, Germany, Dominican Republic, Iceland, Spain, Canada (Quebec), Norway, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland, as well as bilateral agreements on legal aid, case law of the European Court of Human Rights, which demonstrates the presence general principles of law, as well as the principle of protecting the weaker party to the legal relationship, the principle of observance of best interests of a child established by the universal multilateral international agreements: Convention on Human Rights of 1950, Convention on the Rights of the Child of 1989, Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption. The author examines the relevant issues of the conflict of laws regarding the manifestation of the conflict of jurisdictions, plurality of connecting factors in regulation of a set of private law relations associated with international adoption. The result of the conducted research consists in formulation of a special statute of adoption (lex adoptio), analysis of its legal nature and scope. In the context of examination of the procedure for establishing international adoption, the author identifies the problem of dépeçage (different issues within a single case are governed by the laws of different jurisdictions). A classification is provided to the combinations of plurality of connecting factors established by the legislation of foreign countries, as well as multilateral international agreement – the Inter-American Convention on Conflict of Laws Concerning the Adoption of Minors of 1984).

Este estudo foca-se na biografia de Britânico, filho de Cláudio e Valéria Messalina, analisando em particular as informações transmitidas por Tácito nos Annales. Esta obra é também a única fonte que dá conta de que Britânico teria sido sexualmente violado por Nero, seu irmão por adoptio, cunhado e concorrente ao poder. Pretendemos, assim, analisar também a referência ao stuprum do jovem príncipe e o seu significado na historiografia de Tácito.AbstractThis essay focuses on the biography of Britannicus, son of Claudius and Valeria Messalina, considering particularly the information transmitted by Tacitus in the Annales. Tacitus’ work is also the only source that realizes that Britannicus would have been sexually assaulted by Nero, his brother by adoption, brother-in-law and rival as far as power was concerned. Thus, we also intend to analyse the reference to the stuprum of the young prince and its meaning within the historiography of Tacitus.

Intercountry and interracial adoptions are forms of international adoption that imply the difference between adopter and adoptee in geographical, racial, and ethnic terms, which makes the adoption process very complex. The recent case of intercountry adoption of children from DR Congo by Croatian citizens confirmed the globally recognized controversy, questionability, and complexity of the intercountry adoption process. The key or additional problem in this case of intercountry adoption is the fact that DR Congo is not a party to the 1993 Convention on the Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption. The case of intercountry adoption of children from DR Congo encouraged the authors to research and analyze international and national regulations and practices relevant to intercountry adoption. In this paper, the authors specifically analyze open issues related to intercountry adoptions in Croatian legislation, more precisely the recognition of foreign court decisions on adoption, minimum standards related to the establishment and recognition of intercountry adoptions, the possibility of termination of adoption, the citizenship status of adopted children, and the children's right to access information about adoption. In conclusion, the authors propose de lege ferenda solutions for the future regulation of intercountry adoptions.

Esittelen ja arvioin artikkelissani suomalaisten siirtolaisuutta Aunuksen Karjalaan 1800‒1900-lukujen vaihteessa. Tutkimusaineistona on käytetty aiemmin hyödyntämättömiä suomalaisten siirtolaisien henkilötietolomakkeita, joita säilytetään Karjalan tasavallan Kansallisarkistossa (NARK). Pääasiallisena tutkimusmenetelmänä on vertaileva analyysi: suomalaisten muuttoliikettä Aunuksen Karjalaan verrataan muuttoliikkeen pääsuuntiin Pietariin ja Pohjois-Amerikkaan. Artikkelissa rakennetaan kuva muuton motiiveista, siihen liittyneestä byrokratiasta sekä siirtolaisten sosiaalisesta rakenteesta: keitä muuttajat olivat ja mikä sai heidät hakeutumaan Aunuksen kuvernementtiin? Artikkelin johtopäätöksinä esittelen, että Aunuksen Karjalaan muuttaneista siirtolaisista maaseudulle asettuneille perhe oli keskeinen motiivi toisin kuin alueen kaupunkeihin suunnanneilla: ylirajaisten avioliittojen ja perheenyhdistämisen lisäksi muuton taustalla saattoi olla esimerkiksi vävyn adoptio eli vävyn perheen täysjäseneksi ottaminen. Artikkelissa kutsutaan perhesiteeseen perustunutta muuttoa perhesiirtolaisuudeksi. In this article, I examine and evaluate Finnish migration to Olonets Karelia at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Previously unused personal information forms of Finnish immigrants from the National Archive of the Republic of Karelia are the main source of the study. The main research method is comparative analysis: migration to Olonets Karelia is compared with the main destinations of Finnish migration to Saint-Petersburg and North America. In this article, I explore the reasons for the move and the associated bureaucracy, as well as the social structure of migrants: who were the migrants and why did they apply to move to Olonets Province. For those migrants who moved to the countryside, the main motive for moving was family, unlike those who headed to the cities. In addition to cross-border marriages and family reunification, reasons for moving included, for example, the adoption of a son-in-law. Migration based on family ties is called family migration in the article.

We tested whether adoptive parenting played a role in the association between pre-adoption experiences and children’s adaptive (responsiveness) and maladaptive (internalizing and externalizing behavioral problems, attention and sleep problems) behavioral adjustment over time. Ten-year-old girls, adopted at 13 months from institutional care ( n = 50) or foster care ( n = 42) in China to the Netherlands, participated 2 months (Time 1, N = 92), 6 months (Time 2, N = 92), and 9 years after adoption (Time 3, N = 87). At Times 1 and 2, the adoptees showed significantly fewer behavioral problems in many areas than non-adopted youth, with medium to large effect sizes. At Time 3, the adoptees showed similar rates of behavioral problems as non-adopted youth, with the exception of somewhat elevated levels of internalizing problems. Pre-adoption experiences were not associated with their behavioral adjustment. Furthermore, adoptive parenting did not moderate the association between pre-adoption experiences and behavioral adjustment over time. Nevertheless, the finding that the adoptees generally did not show above-average levels of behavioral problems illustrates that adoption had a positive impact on their development.

Personal likes, experience, and deep-rooted interests to satisfy emotional needs such as companionship, affection, empathy, and security are some of the underlying human motivations for acquiring a pet companion. In this study, we asked how long the owner took to decide whether to adopt a dog, who their dog was adopted from, their primary motivation for adoption, a ranking of characteristics considered during the adoption process, and how satisfied they were with the eventual outcome. Participants (n = 933) to this Center for Canine Behavior Studies survey completed an online questionnaire with responses representing 1537 dog/owner pairs. A majority of participants reported satisfaction with at least one of their adopted dogs. Odds of eventual satisfaction are higher for participants who spent less than a week considering an adoption or were seeking a pet to provide companionship and affection. Participants that prioritized personality as an adoption criteria were more likely to be satisfied with their adopted dogs. A mast majority (91%) of participants reported they would consider adopting another dog in the future. Selection criteria rankings that participants indicated they would employ for future adoptions tended to shift away from physical to behavior characteristics when compared to selection criteria priorities of prior adoptions.

Abstract With almost 50,000 wild horses in holding facilities and declining adoption rates, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s wild horse adoption program is in crisis. To improve our understanding of Bureau of Land Management wild horse adopters, we conducted three in-depth interviews with 52 adopters in Colorado and Texas, spaced over their first year of adoption. Questions sought information on the adopters, their adopted horses, and their adoption experiences. The participants who completed all three interviews were uniformly satisfied with their adoptions. We argue that three factors inherent to wild horse culture in these states supported adopter satisfaction: adopters’ previous knowledge about horses, a western North American tradition that values wild horses, and participation in wild horse organizations. A lack of this culture in other regions may explain why they are less welcoming to wild horses and have lower rates of adoptions.

Adoption of scientific management practice is the pre-condition for increasing productivity in any farm business. This study estimates the level of scientific aquaculture management practice (SAMP) adoption, factor affecting adoption and its relation with productivity. Sixty aquaculture farms were selected from 3 upazilas of Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. Adoption level was measured by following Sengupta (1967) while Tobit regression was used to assess the determinants of adoption level. Polynomial regression was employed to show the relationship among farm size, adoption level and productivity. Result revealed that average SAMP adoption level was 54% where 53% farmers were medium adopter. Training, experience, education and extension service had significant positive effect on level of adoption. Productivity was significantly higher for those farmers who adopted more SAMP. Adoption level, productivity and profitability of small farmers were higher than that of large farmers. It is human nature to live peacefully and happily with a complete family. As a complement to a family is the birth of children. When the offspring in the form of the desired child is not obtained naturally, it is done by adopting a child. The legal basis for regulating child adoption prior to the enactment of Government Regulation Number 54 of 2007 concerning the Implementation of Child Adoption, is carried out based on customary law, sharia law, and also based on a deed of adoption made before a notary, but after the enactment of Government Regulation Number 54 of 2007 concerning Implementation of Adoption child, the adoption of a child must be carried out through a court decision or stipulation. The need for a notary deed here is meant by the existence of a deed made before a notary, the deviations in a child adoption process will be minimized. The act of adopting a child contains juridical consequences that the adopted child has legal standing against the adopter, also includes the right to be able to inherit the wealth left by his adoptive parents at the time of death.

Timely adoption is essential for shelters to prevent unnecessary illness or euthanasia in cats (Felis catus). Many studies have examined the role of individual cat characteristics and environmental factors in facilitating cat adoptions, but none have looked at the role the number of cats being adopted plays. In this study, we examined whether or not adopting cats in pairs influences adoption times, in addition to commonly studied factors. We then collected video data on a small subset of cats to determine whether pairs that were adopted together differed behaviourally from pairs who were not. Our results demonstrate that cats who are adopted as part of a multi-cat outcome spent three days (42%) longer on the adoption floor than those adopted individually, independently of other factors such as age and coat colour. This difference increased to 13 days (185%) longer if the cat had a notification indicating they must be adopted together with another cat. While behavioural data show that these pairs of cats engage in significantly more affiliative behaviour with each other than cats who were adopted singly, there was a large discrepancy between which pairs the shelter classified as multi-outcome and those who would be classified that way based on behaviour alone. We suggest that decisions to place cats together should be made carefully given the potential adverse impacts of keeping cats in the shelter longer. Currently, there is no specific platform to manage the adoption process for stray animals in Indonesia. This paper describes the design of a Mobile Application created to address this issue in Jakarta, named myAnimach. This app allows strays and potential adopters to meet their needs easier. myAnimach provides a user-friendly, generic user interface to help them find the strays that meet their criteria or make a post about strays in their neighborhood. Users who want to adopt or offer animals to be adopted can log in or create an account on myAnimach. If the user is interested in becoming an adopter, they need to fill the adoption form. There are several stages in the adoption process. The completion of all the stages will result in an issuance of an adoption letter from myAnimach. Aside from adopting animals, users can also look for adopters for their animals by filling out the upload form on the mobile application.

In the scientific article, the author conducted a scientific study of the foreign experience of legal regulation of the adoption of children by foreigners, primarily according to the legislation of the European Union states and states adjacent to Ukraine. Based on the conducted research, the author came to the conclusion that in the practice of states adjacent to Ukraine and states members of the European Union, there are three approaches to determining the procedure for adopting children by foreign citizens: through the definition of a national regime for foreigners, similar to that which exists for citizens of the relevant state (Latvia); through the determination of conflicts of laws with respect to the law applicable to adoption, which are defined in civil codes (Germany, France, Czech Republic) or separate laws on international private law (Spain, Switzerland); due to the establishment of a separate procedure for adoption (Bulgaria, Belarus, Moldova, Ireland) or an exceptional case of adoption of a child by foreigners using the same procedure for adoption, as with national adoption (Poland, Hungary). In the latter case, the possibility of international adoption is provided, if the child, after being transferred to a foster family, was not adopted in the state of his/her citizenship, because the measures taken to adopt the child were not successful, moreover, in Poland, exceptions to this rule are provided when there is a kinship relationship between the adopter and the adopted child or if the adopter has already adopted a brother or sister of the child being adopted. In the Republic of Bulgaria, foreigners wishing to adopt a child must obtain a permit for international adoption from the Minister of Justice, in the Republic of Belarus - in addition to the written permission for adoption from the Minister of Education, it is also necessary to obtain the child's consent for adoption, the child's stay in the relevant register for a year and the absence of an initiative by citizens of Belarus to adopt a child. In the case of international adoption of citizens of the Republic of Moldova, the ethnic origin of the child, his/her belonging to a certain culture, religion, language and other features that deserve attention must be taken into account; persons wishing to adopt a child must submit a special application - for international adoption, to the Ministry of Health, of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Moldova and the Department of Social Security and Protection of Family Rights as territorial guardianship bodies carry out preliminary and final selection of foreigners who wish to adopt a child who is a citizen of the Republic of Moldova.

Al hilo de la RDGRN de 24 de Noviembre de 2017 (32ª), se abordarán las cuestiones que plantea el reconocimiento incidental de una adopción internacional vinculado a la adquisición de la nacionalidad española, por lo que respecta a los requisitos del art.26.3 y 5 LAI.Palabras clave: adopción internacional, nacionalidad, reconocimiento incidental, certificado de idoneidad.Abstract: The art.27 LAI operates when the registration of the adoption is applied for before the RCE. Other situations depend on the valid constitution of the foreign adoption, such as the acquisition of the Spanish nationality of origin by the adopted person, in those cases in which the adopter or adopters are Spanish, in accordance with art.19 Cc. Thus, according to arts.27 LAI and 19.1 Cc, the adopted person will not acquire the Spanish nationality of origin if have not complied with the requirements of art.26 LAI. During the last two decades in the Netherlands foreign adoptions have increased compared to domestic adoptions. In this paper, research studies concerning causes and characteristics of problem behaviour of adopted adolescents are discussed. Adopted adolescents, in particular, face more emotional problems compared to their nonadopted peers, as evidenced in parent reports. However, on the basis of reports from adopted adolescents, coping with four of Havighurst’s developmental tasks is satisfactory. However, adopted adolescents report more feelings of insecurity and emotional tension concerning their gender experience with regard to their physical appearance compared to their Dutch peers. Based on the research reviewed and clinical experience at the Utrecht Adoption Centre, risk factors in adoption are summarised.

The study focused on extent of adoption of climate resilient technologies and socioeconomic status of the farmers in the eastern plain zone of Uttar Pradesh. Data collected from flood and usar affected blocks of Varanasi and Chandauli subjected to analysis. High adoption of climate resilient technologies noticed followed by low and medium adoption. Farmers belonged to middle age and young age adopted climate resilient technologies more compare to old age farmers. Illiterates adopted less compare primary and secondary educated farmers, where they adopted more. Nuclear family constituted more in high and low adoption groups similar pattern followed in joint family. Among all groups of adoption, the medium family size accounted for the most adoptions, followed by the medium and big family sizes. Low income was predominant among farmers of all groups whereas high adopted farmers had higher income than medium and low adopted farmers. The majority of the farmers had medium farming experience, which affected positively on adoption more than high and low experience, low adopted farmers having less expertise. Farmers with a high extension contact used more climate resilient technology.

This research focuses on adoption cases where prospective adoptive parents carry out the adoption process without obtaining a court decision, which contradicts the stipulations of Article 20 paragraph (1) PP Number 54 of 2007. According to this provision, child adoption must be formally conducted through a court order. The main objectives of this study are to determine the legal status of adoptions conducted without a court order and to examine the legal protection available to adopted children whose adoptions have not undergone a court process, particularly in terms of their rights and obligations within the adoptive family. The research employs the normative legal method, utilizing the statute approach and the case approach to address the problem at hand. A literature study is conducted to collect relevant data, and qualitative methods are employed to analyze the legal materials. The findings of the research highlight that adoptions carried out without a court order lack legal standing, leaving adopted children without adequate legal protection, especially concerning their rights and obligations in the adoptive family. The court's involvement in the adoption process is crucial to establish a proper legal status for the adopted child and to ensure their legal protection, particularly regarding their rights and obligations within the adoptive family.

Social contagion is the mechanism by which ideas and behaviors spread across human social networks. Simple contagion models approximate the likelihood of adoption as constant with each exposure to an "infected" network neighbor. However, social theory postulates that when adopting an idea or behavior carries personal or social risk, an individual's adoption likelihood also depends on the number of distinct neighbors who have adopted. Such complex contagions are thought to govern the spread of social movements and other important social phenomena. Online sites, such as Twitter, expose social interactions at a large scale and provide an opportunity to observe the spread of social contagions "in the wild." Much of the effort in searching for complex phenomena in real world contagions focuses on measuring user adoption thresholds. In this work, we show an alternative method for fitting probabilistic complex contagion models to empirical data that avoids measuring thresholds directly, and our results indicate bias in observed thresholds under both complex and simple models. We also show 1) that probabilistic models of simple and complex contagion are distinguishable when applied to an empirical social network with random user activity; and 2) the predictive power of these probabilistic adoption models against observed adoptions of actual hashtags used on Twitter. We use a set of tweets collected from Nigeria in 2014, focusing on 20 popular hashtags, using the follow graphs of the users adopting the tags during their initial peaks of activity.

This research that uses data collection techhniques, namely with observation, interviews, and documentation. Then take books related to this research such as jurnals, goverment publication, as well as other sites or sources that suppor this research. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of child adoption that occurs in the Lubuk Barumun District community is giving ransom to biological parents and helping relatives who cannot afford to pay for their children. There are several reasons why families adopt in Lubuk Barumun District, namely to make the adopted child their biological child and result in the child's blood relationship. And the family adopted a child because they had been married for a long time and had no children. There is also a reason that because of economic factors and because they do not have a son, so they are interested in adopting a boy with the aim of provoking the birth of a boy in their family. The understanding of the people of Lubuk Barumun District, Padang Lawas Regency regarding the verses about child adoption is that it is permissible to adopt a child but not to lose the original lineage. You may adopt a child but you may not be a guardian in your adopted child's marriage. You can adopt children but you can't inherit each other.

Adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is supposed to help enhance comparability of financial statement, improve the quality of financial reporting and accounting information of businesses in a country. This is expected to help improve Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the adopting countries. This study examined the effect of IFRS adoption on FDI inflows in Africa. Unlike previous studies that sample both adopting and non-adopting countries, this study sampled only Africa countries that have adopted IFRS to determine whether the adoption has improved FDI inflows. To achieve this objective, 20 African countries that have adopted IFRS were sampled covering a period 1980 to 2015. Data was sourced from The World Bank financial and Economic Data. Control variables such as GDP growth, openness of the economy, government debt and population growth were included in the model. The correlation and regression analysis showed that IFRS adoption has a positive and significant influence on FDI inflows in Africa. On the other hand, open economy, government debt and population growth had a positive and significant association with FDI. Overall, the results show that African countries that want to improve FDI inflows must improve the quality of their reporting environment by adopting IFRS.

The relationship between adopted child and his/her family of adoption and family of origin is regulated under the Revised Family Code Proclamation No. 213/2000. Accordingly, the adopted child shall retain his/her bond with the family of origin in addition to his/her close relationship with the family of adoption by considering him/her, for all purposes, as the child of the adopter. One of the issues that arises in connection with a child’s relationship with his/her family of origin and family of adoption is the right to inheritance. In particular, the issue arises whether the adopted child can inherit his/her family of origin (through intestate succession) while s/he is deemed to be the child of the adopter and bestowed with all rights and duties including inheritance. The assurance of inheritance right to the adopted child from the estate of his/her family of origin depends upon how much the bond with his/her family of origin is maintained. This article focuses on the legal regime with regard to the adopted child’s relationship with his/her family of origin with particular emphasis on the adopted child’s right to inherit his/her family of origin, in Ethiopia.

The current article provides a review of adoption research since its inception as a field of study. Three historical trends in adoption research are identified: the first focusing on risk in adoption and identifying adoptee—nonadoptee differences in adjustment; the second examining the capacity of adopted children to recover from early adversity; and the third focusing on biological, psychosocial, and contextual factors and processes underlying variability in adopted children’s adjustment. Suggestions for future areas of empirical investigation are offered, with an emphasis on the need to integrate research, policy, and practice.

Many aspects of the process—carrying large amounts of cash to Romania, bribing officials to release their new daughter from the orphanage and the total lack of information about Liliana's health or background—had disturbed them. Dave and Susan were relieved when Liliana received a visa to travel to the United States because they thought that the physical examination for her visa had revealed nothing of import. Their concerns disappeared when they boarded the plane to head home to the United States. Liliana seemed healthy and happy, and she would adjust in no time.

The making of family through adoption is an emotionally and politically charged legal and social process. Both its historical and contemporary manifestations are characterised by ambivalence. Contemporary domestic adoption in the UK is at a point of profound reflection, as many of its ambivalent features are articulated at the levels of national policy making as well as within the micro political sphere of family life. Drawing on an online archive of adoption stories, in particular blogs written by adoptive parents, this article attends to the affective ways in which this ambivalence manifests within adoptive families. Queer theoretical resources are used to engage with themes of haunting, absence and loss, the strange temporalities of adoptive kinship and the complex politics of undoing at the heart of adoption.
