Résumé :
After the end of the First World War, the most important event in the history of our country was the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic on October 28, 1918. Professor Deyl repeatedly spoke about the need to establish a Czechoslovak Ophthalmological Society. Only his successor, professor. O. Lešer implemented Deyl's idea and, in agreement with the heads of the Bratislava and Brno departments of ophthalmology, convened the opening general meeting of the Czechoslovak Ophthalmological Society on April 3, 1926, in the auditorium of the Czech department of ophthalmology with the participation of 37 ophthalmologists. Not all Czechoslovak ophthalmologists were present at this first meeting of the Czechoslovak Ophthalmological Society; their number can be estimated at about 55 in 1926. Immediately after the founding of the Czechoslovak Ophthalmological Society in 1926, a yearbook of congress works began to be published in the same year, every year until 1932, a total of 7 volumes. By the decision of the General Meeting of the Czechoslovak Ophthalmological Society, held on 15 May 1933, the publication of congress works was built on a new basis. The current form of the collection was abandoned, and the periodical journal Czechoslovak Ophthalmology was founded. In 1954, the Slovak branch of the ophthalmological section of the Czechoslovak Ophthalmological Society was founded, which quickly developed its activities and twice a year organized very successful and scientifically valuable congresses with rich participation and discussion. The name of the organization "Slovak branch of the Ophthalmological Section of the Czechoslovak Medical Society of J. E. Purkyně" was chosen. In 1969, under the Federalization Act, medical societies were reorganized; the Czech and Slovak Ophthalmological Society is established. The Federal Committee has since consisted of the chairs and secretaries of the two National Committees, who took turns in the leadership of the Federal Committee during their term of office. After the division of Czechoslovakia in 1993, the name of the magazine changed. Until 1994 it was published under the name Czechoslovak Ophthalmology and since 1995 the name has been changed to Czech and Slovak Ophthalmology. The first issue was published in February 1995, the continuity of the journal and the numbering has been preserved.

Résumé :
Background: The prevalence of pediatric obesity has increased over the past several decades worldwide and in Korea. Childhood obesity has become a serious social problem.Current Concepts: Diagnosis of obesity is based on body mass index (BMI) in children and adolescents aged ≥2 years. Overweight and obese are defined as BMI ≥85th percentile to <95th percentile and BMI ≥95th percentile, respectively, corresponding to sex and age. Obesity is further classified as Class I (BMI ≥95th percentile to <120% of 95th percentile), Class II (BMI ≥120% of 95th percentile to <140% of 95th percentile), and Class III (BMI ≥140% of 95th percentile). Waist circumference and waist-height ratio are used to evaluate abdominal obesity. Pediatric obesity can cause childhood comorbidities, including type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and hypertension. Adult obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and other adult comorbidities, together with increased medical costs are additional consequences of pediatric obesity.Discussion and Conclusion: Prevention, diagnosis, and proper management of pediatric obesity are important.

Résumé :
The increase in the prevalence of obesity among youth is alarming. Relationships exist between excess weight and adverse cardiometabolic markers. The aims of this study among adolescents in the Teen Eating and Activity Mentoring in Schools (TEAMS) project were to describe selected demographic characteristics, anthropometric measurements, and laboratory values of middle school students; contrast differences in rates of cardiometabolic markers for participants with body mass index (BMI) ≥ 95th percentile and <95th percentile; examine rates of exceeding cardiometabolic cutoffs by weight status; and predict the odds ratio for one or more adverse cardiometabolic outcomes when BMI ≥95th percentile. Students ( N = 151) were significantly more likely to exceed cut-off points for high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and blood pressure (BP) when BMI was ≥95th percentile. Students whose BMI was ≥the 95th percentile were nearly five times as likely to have the deleterious cardiometabolic outcomes of low HDL-C, high triglycerides, elevated homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), or elevated systolic BP than those whose BMI was <the 95th percentile. Nurses and other clinicians should view BMI ≥95th percentile as an indicator of other risk factors that merits additional assessments and interventions to improve health.

Résumé :
Purpose: Several definitions for severe obesity have been used, primarily the 99th percentile of the body mass index (BMI) and 120% of the 95th BMI percentile. This study aimed to establish a standardized definition for severe obesity in children and adolescents in Korea. Methods: The 99th BMI percentile line and 120% of the 95th BMI percentile line were constructed using 2017 Korean National Growth Charts. To compare these 2 cutoff points for severe obesity, we included 9,984 individuals (5,289 males and 4,695 females) aged 10–18 years with anthropometric data available from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2007–2018.Results: Although 120% of the 95th percentile of BMI is widely used as a definition of severe obesity, the 99th percentile is almost identical to 110% of the 95th percentile in Korea, according to the latest national BMI growth chart for children and adolescents. The prevalence rates of high blood pressure, high triglycerides, low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and high alanine aminotransferase in the participants whose BMI was ≥120% of the 95th percentile were higher than in those whose BMI was ≥99th percentile (<i>P</i><0.001).Conclusion: A cutoff value for severe obesity of ≥120% of the 95th percentile is appropriate in children and adolescents in Korea. To provide follow-up care for severely obese children and adolescents, it is necessary to add a new line at 120% of the 95th percentile to the national BMI growth chart.

Résumé :
OBJECTIVES/SPECIFIC AIMS: We intended to investigate the relationship between children’s genetic admixture proportions and the incidence of obesity at 12 months of age METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: 821 twelve month old children were included and their genetic admixture was estimated using the ancestry and kinship toolkit (AKT). Weight for Length Percentile (WFLP) at 12 months of age was categorized as <95th percentile and ≥95th percentile. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to calculate odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for association of admixture proportion including EUR, AMR, AFR, EAS and SAS with WFLP categories adjusting for maternal education, birth weight, frequency of breast feeding and juice consumption RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: 821 children were included; WFLP <95th percentile = 671 (81.7%) and WFLP ≥95th percentile = 150 (18.3%). Crude odds ratios showed EUR admixture was protective (OR 0.45 (95% CI 0.27–0.74)) whereas AMR (OR 3.85 (95% CI 1.92 –7.70)) and AFR (OR 5.70 (95% CI 2.19 –14.85)) were positively associated with obesity. After adjusting for confounding variables, only AFR was associated with WFLP≥95th (OR 7.38 (95% CI 2.31 – 23.59)), AMR and EUR were no longer associated with WFLP≥95th DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE OF IMPACT: The AFR admixture proportion remains associated with early childhood obesity after accounting for confounding variables, suggesting the ancestral genetic background may contribute to the differences seen in early childhood obesity

Résumé :
Objective To determine electrocardiographic characteristics of endurance-trained Alaskan sled dogs. Design Case series. Animals 319 Alaskan sled dogs entered to compete in the 1994 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Procedure ECG were recorded while dogs were standing and were analyzed digitally. Results Amplitudes of P waves (median, 0.40 mV; fifth to 95th percentile range, 0.11 to 0.61 mV) and R waves in lead II (median, 3.02 mV; fifth to 95th percentile range, 1.49 to 4.40 mV) were high; durations of P waves in lead II (median, 61 milliseconds; fifth to 95th percentile range, 36 to 96 milliseconds), QRS complexes (median, 64 milliseconds; fifth to 95th percentile range, 52 to 80 milliseconds), and QT intervals (median, 236 milliseconds; fifth to 95th percentile range, 208 to 277 milliseconds) were prolonged. Median value for mean axis of ventricular depolarization was 57° (fifth to 95th percentile range, 19 to 90°). Atrial and ventricular premature depolarizations were observed in 3 (0.9%) and 4 (1.3%) of 319 dogs, respectively, and paroxysmal ventricular tachycardia was detected in 1 (0.3%). Clinical Implications Results suggest that electrocardiographic characteristics of endurance-trained Alaskan sled dogs differ from those reported for nonsled dogs, probably as a result of effects of endurance training on heart size. Some of these characteristics could be mistaken as evidence of pathologic cardiac hypertrophy. (J Am Vet Med Assoc 1997;211:1138–1141)

Résumé :
Objective Evaluate the association between spontaneous active labor duration utilizing contemporary labor curves and risk of adverse outcomes. Materials and Methods This is a retrospective cohort study from January 2012 to January 2015. Subjects were nulliparous, 18 to 44 years, with a cephalic, singleton ≥37 weeks in spontaneous labor. Subjects were placed into three subgroups, defined by active labor duration from 6 to 10 cm as less than the median, the median-95th, and >95th percentile based on contemporary labor curves published by Zhang et al. We evaluated the association between subgroups and cesarean delivery, chorioamnionitis, estimated blood loss, Apgar score < 7 at 5 minutes, and neonatal intensive care unit admission using logistic regression to estimate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results Six-hundred forty two women met the inclusion criteria. Compared with women whose active labor was less than the median, the risk of cesarean was higher in the median-95th percentile ([adjusted OR, aOR] 3.1, 95% CI 1.8–5.5) and the >95th percentile ([aOR] 6.8, 95% CI 3.9–11.7) subgroups. There was an increased odds of chorioamnionitis in the median-95th percentile subgroup ([aOR] 2.5, 95% CI 1.1–5.9). Conclusion Chorioamnionitis and cesarean delivery increased significantly as labor duration exceeded the median. This study provides a better understanding regarding the potential risk of cesarean and chorioamnionitis using contemporary labor curves.

Résumé :
Designing to fit the “95th percentile man” can proceed once the “95th percentile man” is given some conceptual and statistical meaning. Because of the multivariate nature of the problem, there are a number of ways to define and construct such a “95th percentile man”. At present, a percentile figure is generally one which has the given percentile for height but has the rest of the body segments proportioned according to some formulae relating the segments to the height. It is well known that the such resultants are not satisfactory representatives of the population. As a result, one often tries to piece manikins together by attaching (e.g.) “5th percentile” arms onto a “95th percentile” tall figure, or otherwise combining different percentile segments in order to try to represent the considerable percentile variation in body segments existing within individuals in the population of a “95th percentile (height) man”. Methods for constructing more representative exemplars (or manikins) of a population are needed for multivariate design and analysis. This paper proposes a method based on “h-contours” which has the advantages of conceptually extending the univariate percentile concept as well as being suitable for design by constructing realistic multivariate exemplars. A multivariate Gaussian distribution is used for computational purposes. The proposed method is briefly contrasted with the “ellipse” method as proposed by others. A bivariate example is used to illustrate the concepts and computations.

Résumé :
Background. The production of milk and dairy products and their placement on the market represent a constant profit for the farmers/producers in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BH). The profitable operation of the dairy farms is influenced by the reproductive performance of the lactating animals. This study assessed individual animal reproductive characteristics in selected dairy farms and described their reproductive performance indicators. Results. The median age at first insemination was 493 days (5th–95th percentile range 429–840), while the age at first calving was 802 days (5th–95th percentile range 708–1168). The median pregnancy proportion at first insemination was 40% (5th–95th percentile range 17–62), while the cumulative pregnancy rate calculated at day-60, day-80, day-100, and day-120 showed that approximately 64% of all pregnancies happened before day-120. The calculated interservice intervals showed that approximately 69% of the repeat breeding animals came back to the oestrus in the period of 18 to 24 days. This is an indication of very good oestrus detection in selected dairy farms. The mean number of services per pregnancy was 2.61 (range 1–12). The median calving-to-first-insemination interval was 62.5 days (5th–95th percentile range 16–408). The calving-to-conception interval was 101 day (5th–95th percentile range 36–506). Finally, the calving interval was 385 days (5th–95th percentile range 329–773). Conclusions. There is a need for an organised, regular, and more comprehensive recording system for the reproduction of dairy cattle among dairy farms in Una-Sana Canton. The calculated reproductive measures indicated an undulant trend in reproductive performance among selected dairy farms in Una-Sana Canton. Knowing the apparent reproductive indicators described in this study, the farmers and veterinary authorities may identify and correct areas in their management that contribute to the reproductive underperformance.

Résumé :
95 years ago, namely on October 12, 1926, through the efforts of 27 founders, including professors G.I. Turner, A.L. Polenov, R.R. Vreden and G.A. Albrecht, the first scientific society of orthopedic surgeons of Leningrad and the Leningrad region was created in our country, which continues to be an indispensable platform for the training of scientific personnel, the exchange of practical experience and research results directed by authoritative figures of domestic traumatology and orthopedics, the successors of the Leningrad school of orthopedic surgeons. The article summarizes the results of the societys work during four periods of its activity: the first period of formation (19261933), the second period work in the pre-war, war and post-war years (19341950), the third period the intensive development of traumatology and orthopedics (19501990) and the fourth period the modern rapid development of the specialty (since 1990). The main aim of the current activity and new areas of work are formulated.

Résumé :
The objective of this project was to develop a model that describes design speed profiles of vehicles traversing horizontal curves on approaches to stop-controlled intersections on two-lane two-way rural highways. Once speed prediction models were determined, a procedure for the design of horizontal curves that would accommodate vehicles transitioning from high speeds to a stop was developed. Speed profiles were developed with the use of data from 15 study sites in Nebraska. The multiplicative model was used to provide prediction equations for speed profiles. Separate profiles were created for passenger cars and heavy vehicles because speeds were significantly different. The heavy vehicle data were separated further for alignments with and without horizontal curvature. It was concluded that posted speed, median type, presence of rumble bars, roadway surface condition, and degree of rutting did not significantly affect the vehicle speed profiles at these sites at a 95% confidence level. During the comparison of speeds, it was found that the intercepts of the regression lines for approaches with and without horizontal curves were significantly different in the case of heavy vehicles. The speed of heavy vehicles on tangent approaches was generally about 8 mph higher than on sites that exhibited horizontal curvature. The rate of deceleration remained almost the same on all approaches to intersections, except near the stop. For passenger cars, there was no statistically significant difference between curved and tangent alignments. A guidebook for the geometric design of intersection realignment Methods A through D, referred to in the 2004 Green Book, is also included in the project's report.
