Résumé :

Résumé :
Limited soil nitrogen (N) availability is a common problem in organic vegetable production that often necessitates additional N fertilization. The increasing use of drip irrigation has created a demand for liquid organic fertilizers that can be applied with irrigation. The N availability of three liquid organic fertilizers was evaluated in an incubation study and a greenhouse bioassay. Phytamin 801 contained fishery wastes and seabird guano, while Phytamin 421 and Biolyzer were formulated from plant materials. The fertilizers ranged from 26 to 60 g·kg−1 N, 8% to 21% of which was associated with particulate matter large enough to potentially be removed by drip irrigation system filtration. The fertilizers were incubated aerobically in two organically managed soils at constant moisture at 15 and 25 °C, and sampled for mineral N concentration after 1, 2, and 4 weeks. In the greenhouse study, these fertilizers and an inorganic fertilizer (ammonium sulfate) were applied to pots of the two organically managed soils with established fescue (Festuca arundinacea) turf; the N content of clippings was compared with that from unfertilized pots after 2 and 4 weeks of growth. Across soils and incubation temperatures, the N availability from Phytamin 801 ranged from 79% to 93% of the initial N content after 1 week, and 83% to 99% after 4 weeks. The plant-based fertilizers had significantly lower N availability, but after 4 weeks, had 48% to 92% of initial N in mineral form. Soil and incubation temperature had modest but significant effects on fertilizer N availability. Nitrification was rapid, with >90% of mineral N in nitrate form after 1 week of incubation at 25 °C, or 2 weeks at 15 °C. N recovery in fescue clippings 4 weeks after application averaged 60%, 38%, and 36% of initial N content for Phytamin 801, Phytamin 421, and Biolyzer, respectively, equivalent to or better than the N recovery from ammonium sulfate.

Résumé :
Porcine circovirus 3 (PCV-3) is the third member of the family Circoviridae, genus Circovirus, able to infect swine. A high prevalence of viral DNA has been recorded in wild boars. Recently, PCV-3 DNA was identified in Italian wild ruminants. Based on these previous results, this study assessed the frequency of PCV-3 DNA detection in free-ranging ruminants and Lagomorpha species in Spain. In addition, the genetic characterization of the PCV-3 PCR-positive samples was performed. A total of 801 serum samples, including red deer (Cervus elaphus, [CE]; n = 108), roe deer (Capreolus capreolus, [CC]; n = 87), Pyrenean chamois (Rupicapra pyrenaica, [RP]; n = 133), Iberian ibex (Capra pyrenaica, [CP]; n = 92), mouflon (Ovis aries, [OA]; n = 91), fallow deer (Dama dama, [DD]; n = 104), European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus, [OC]; n = 101), and European hare (Lepus europaeus, [LE]; n = 85) from Catalonia (northeast Spain) were tested by conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and, when positive, sequenced. Overall, PCV-3 DNA was found in three out of 801 analyzed sera (0.37%) corresponding to one red deer (1/108, 0.9%), one mouflon (1/91, 1.1%), and one fallow deer (1/104, 0.96%). None of the samples collected from Lagomorpha species resulted PCR positive. The partial genome sequences detected in positive samples displayed high identity with some PCV-3 sequences detected in wild boars and domestic pigs (99.7% and 100%, respectively). In conclusion, the present study indicated that free-ranging ruminant and Lagomorpha species are not relevant in the epidemiology of PCV-3 in Spain.

Résumé :
The article analyzes the legal consequences of issuing by court a guilty verdict without impose a punishment. The conclusion is substantiated that guilty verdict without the imposition of punishment is the basis of releasing not from criminal responsibility, but from criminal punishment. The types of guilty verdict without imposing a punishment are considered. The conclusion is substantiated on the expediency of excluding from the second part of Article 92 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation the indication of the imposition to punishment to imprisonment of a minor, on adjudication the guilty verdict against a minor without the imposition to punishment in the second part of Article 92 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Author reveals that guilty verdict without imposing a punishment should be issued in the following cases: when a person is released from criminal punishment due to a change in the situation (Article 80.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation); when a minor is released from criminal punishment with the use of coercive measures of educational influence (Part 1 of Article 92 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation); when a minor is released from criminal punishment with his placement in a special educational institution of a closed type (part 2 of Article 92 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation); when a guilty verdict is issued to a person in respect of whom the statute of limitations for criminal prosecution provided for in Article 78 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation has expired, if this person objects to the termination of the criminal case and the case is considered in the usual manner until its resolution on the merits.

Résumé :
Glomerular mesangial cells (MC) play a central role in the synthesis and turnover of the glomerular extracellular matrix. Prior studies [Davies, Thomas, Martin and Lovett (1988) Biochem. J. 251, 419-425; Martin, Davies, Thomas and Lovett (1989) Kidney Int. 36, 790-801] have characterized at the protein level a 72 kDa type IV collagenase that is secreted by cultured human and rat MC. While exposure of most cell types to interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta), tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) or phorbol ester has little or even an inhibitory effect on 72 kDa type IV collagenase secretion, these factors significantly increased the synthesis of this enzyme by rat MC. Given this divergent pattern of expression, a homology-based PCR cloning strategy using rat MC cDNA templates was employed to define at the molecular level the structure of the mesangial 72 kDa type IV collagenase. The nucleotide sequence within the open reading frame of the rat mesangial 72 kDa type IV collagenase cDNA diverges from the sequence of the human homologue by approx. 9%. The divergence in the 3′ untranslated region was much more extensive. Steady-state levels of the 3.1 kb transcript of the 72 kDa type IV collagenase were low or undetectable in resting MC, but were greatly stimulated following incubation with IL-beta, TNF-alpha or phorbol ester. None of these factors induced synthesis by MC of the closely related 92 kDa type IV collagenase. Synthesis by MC of the 72 kDa type IV collagenase was also induced by second-messenger analogues, including 8-bromo-cyclic AMP and forskolin. It is concluded that MC regulate the expression of this enzyme in an unusual, tissue-specific fashion. Cytokine and second-messenger inducibility may contribute to the enhanced expression of the enzyme during glomerular inflammatory disorders.

Résumé :
INTRODUCTION There is limited information on the knowledge and prevention practices of diarrheal disease transmission among adults in Sierra Leone. We assessed the level of knowledge and practices of adults on diarrheal disease transmission and prevention in Sierra Leone. METHODOLOGY A community-based cross-sectional cluster survey was conducted in four districts of Sierra Leone. A pre-tested, structured questionnaire was used to collect demographic, knowledge and practices on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), diarrheal diseases transmission and prevention. On Knowledge questions, a score above 50% was categorized as adequate and below 50% was categorized as poor. We calculated frequencies, proportions and chi-square to compare knowledge and practice differences between urban and rural settings. RESULTS Of the total 926 study subjects, 676 (73%) were female, with a median age of 29 years (range:18 - 96 years). Almost, 75% (671/926) of study participants had adequate knowledge of the critical moments of hand washing, higher in urban (79%) compared to rural areas (66%), (p<0.001). Forty-one per cent (377/926) of the study participants had limited knowledge of diarrheal diseases transmission with 48% in urban and 33% in rural areas (p<0.001), 87% (801/926) had limited knowledge of the measures of diarrheal diseases prevention, higher in rural, 416 (92%) compared to urban, 385 (81%), (p<0.001). CONCLUSION Study participants had adequate knowledge on the importance of handwashing, and the critical times to wash hands. Study participants had limited knowledge about the transmission and prevention of diarrheal disease. The majority of the study subjects practice hand hygiene and safe water treatment method in urban as compared to rural settings. We recommend developing a WASH-related sensitization program to improve community awareness of diarrheal disease transmission and prevention.

Résumé :
Background Unregulated antimicrobial use is common in both hospital and community settings of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). However, discrete data regarding the use/misuse of antimicrobials at pharmacies in LMICs are limited. This study was conducted to understand knowledge, attitude, and practice of pharmacy employees on antimicrobial dispensing in Nepal. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional survey using a structured questionnaire on 801 pharmacy employees working in community and hospital pharmacies located in Lalitpur metropolitan city (LMC) of Kathmandu, Nepal between April 2017 and March 2019. Results A majority (92%) of respondents agreed that demand for non-prescription antimicrobials was common. Asking for prescription before dispensing was ranked as the first preference by majority (69%) of participants. Suspected respiratory tract infection was the most common reason demanding for non-prescription antimicrobials with the highest mean rank of 1.5. Azithromycin was the most commonly prescribed and sold antimicrobial, as reported by 46% and 48% of participants respectively. A majority (87%) of respondents agreed on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) to be a global public health threat; and misuse/overuse of antimicrobials was perceived as the most common cause of AMR with a mean rank of 1.93. Conclusion Our study revealed that unfounded dispensing and use of antimicrobials is prevalent among pharmacies in Kathmandu, Nepal. This over reliance on antimicrobials, notably azithromycin, may escalate burden of AMR. We identified several drivers of inappropriate antimicrobial dispensing practice in pharmacies, which will aid public health authorities in addressing these issues. Further studies considering role of other stakeholders, such as doctors, veterinarians, general public, and policy makers are required to obtain a more holistic perspectives on practices of antimicrobial use so to curb the extant AMR crisis.

Résumé :
Abstract Abstract 4902 Introduction Cytogenetics and fluorescent-in situ hybridization (FISH) are important outcome predictors in multiple myeloma (MM). There were only few small studies that investigated prognostic implication of FISH and/or conventional karyotyping in Korean MM patients. We investigated the incidences and prognostic significances of chromosomal abnormalities detected by FISH and/or conventional karyotyping among Korean MM patients. Patients and Methods We collected data of patients from Korean Myeloma Registry and performed retrospective analysis. We compared the survival of patients with chromosomal abnormalities and other clinical findings. Results From 2000 to 2009, total of 801 newly diagnosed myeloma patients were enrolled in this study. Median age of patients was 62 years. Median overall survival was 82 months, and median follow up of time was 92 months. Among the patients who had conventional karyotype analysis, 17.1% were complex karyotype, followed by del13q (7.4%), hyperdiploidy (7.6%), hypodiploidy (3.0%), and t(11;14) (3.9%). Among the patients who had FISH analysis, 22.8% were del 13q, followed by t(11;14) (18.2%), t(4;14) (13.7%), del17p (11.8%) and t(14;16) (5.9%). Univariate analyses revealed that complex karyotype (p<0.01), hypodiploidy (p=0.01), del13q (p<0.01) by conventional karyotyping, and t(4;14) (p=0.04) by FISH negatively impacted the overall survival. Other genomic aberrations did not affect the overall survival. Clinical parameters that impact on overall survival were percentage of plasma cells in bone marrow, serum beta2-microglobulin, creatinine, low hemoglobin, and low albumin levels. On multivariate analysis, percentage of plasma cells in bone marrow (p<0.01) and low serum albumin level (p<0.01) were independent risk factors for overall survival. Conclusions Our results showed that complex karyotype, hypodiploidy, t(4;14), and del13q by FISH and/or conventional karyotyping were negative prognostic factors for overall survival in univariate analyses. On multivariate analysis, low serum albumin level and percentage of plasma cells in bone marrow were independent risk factors for overall survival. In future, prospective trial with laboratory standardization is warranted for more reliable results from FISH and/or conventional karyotyping in MM patients. Résumé :
Background: Approximately half of patients with acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (alloHCT) experience steroid-refractory aGVHD (SR-aGVHD) disease. Patients with SR-aGVHD require intense and prolonged immunosuppression resulting in high risk of severe opportunistic infections and risk of relapse of malignancy which ultimately results in significant increase in short- and long-term morbidity and mortality, poor quality of life for children and their families and increases financial burden on families and health care system. Corticosteroids have been the mainstay of therapy for new onset acute GVHD. However, treatment for SR-GVHD in children is a serious unmet need. To date, few therapies have been investigated for SR-aGVHD in robust clinical trials for children. Moreover, long-term benefits and survival data from these trials are often lacking or unclear. A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted to better understand the efficacy of therapies under investigation in this population. Methods: Literature database searches of Embase, MEDLINE, Cochrane, and Econlit, were performed on 22 May 2023 according to Cochrane guidelines to identify randomized and non-randomized clinical trials in which the pediatric population with SR-aGVHD represented at least 50% of the trial population. Clinical trials extensions and long-term follow-up reports were also included. Studies published in English from 2009 onwards were retrieved. Additional manual searches of relevant conference abstracts published in the past 3 years were performed. Results: Overall, 29 publications (23 unique studies) met the selection criteria, representing a total of 801 patients aged 18 years or younger with SR-aGVHD. A limited number of interventions were investigated in this population and most studies had a non-randomized design (19 out of 23 studies). Overall survival (OS) and response rates (ORR) were analyzed from studies enrolling more than 20 pediatric patients with SR-aGVHD (9 studies, Table), which investigated therapies such as mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC), remestemcel-L (MSC manufactured by Mesoblast), ruxolitinib, etanercept and extracorporeal photopheresis. At least 80% of patients treated with cellular therapies (remestemcel-L/MSC) and etanercept had grade III or IV disease. ORR on day 28 was 92% with etanercept, 77% to 91% with ruxolitinib, 61% to 92% with mesenchymal stromal cells, 61% to 70% with remestemcel-L, and 55% with extracorporeal photopheresis. Durable response rates of 69% at day 56 and 70% at day 100 and were noted for remestemcel-L and ruxolitinib, respectively. OS at 6 months was 69% with remestemcel-L, and 71% with mesenchymal stromal cells. OS at 1 year was reported for remestemcel-L (63%) and etanercept (59%). Long-term survival data beyond 1 year of patients enrolled in the clinical trial was available only for remestemcel-L and showed an OS rate of 51% at 2 years and 49% at 3 and 4 years. 4-year OS probability for patients with grade III or IV (48% in both cases) was similar to that for the overall population. Conclusions: Only a few small size clinical trials were conducted for children with SR-aGVHD which poses a unique challenge for FDA to approve new therapies for SR-aGVHD. Despite a small number (n=9: 5 ruxolitinib arm and 4 control arm) of children (12-18 years) enrolled in REACH II study, ruxolitinib was FDA approved for children>12 years of age. Long-term efficacy outcomes of children enrolled in clinical trials were reported only for remestemcel-L and showed that approximately half survived beyond 3 years. While other reports showed that grade III/IV disease is associated with poorer outcomes compared to grade I/II, similar survival rates were noted for patients with grade II, III and IV treated with remestemcel-L. In children with SR-aGVHD, other therapies such as ruxolitinib or etanercept demonstrated good response rates, however, the associated survival benefit is unclear.

Résumé :
Gulf licaria, Licaria trianda (Sw.) Kosterm., is a federally endangered member of the Lauraceae plant family in Miami-Dade County, Florida. It was never common in the area, and urban development has extirpated it from most of its former range; as of 2001, fewer than 10 trees remained in a single, remnant habitat in the continental United States, Simpson Park (25°45′31″N, 80°11′46″W) (2). Laurel wilt, caused by the fungus Raffaelea lauricola T. C. Harr., Fraedrich & Aghayeva, has recently devastated members of the Lauraceae in the southeastern United States, most notably redbay, Persea borbonia (1). As R. lauricola and its vector, the redbay ambrosia beetle Xyleborus glabratus, have spread in the region, an increasing number of taxa in this plant family have been affected by this disease (1). In 2012, seedlings of gulf licaria and redbay were obtained from local nurseries; they were grown in 30 liter pots, 1.3 m tall, had stems 3 cm in diameter 20 cm above the soil line, and were maintained with standard watering and fertilization practices. In two pathogenicity experiments on July 6 and September 25, 2012, three plants each of gulf licaria and redbay were inoculated with an isolate of R. lauricola, RL4, as described in previous experiments (3), and two plants each were mock inoculated (water control). RL4 is deposited as CBS 127349 at the Centraalbureau voor Schimmelcultures (CBS Fungal Biodiversity Centre, Utrecht, The Netherlands), and a SSU rDNA sequence for it is deposited in GenBank under Accession No. HM446155. Beginning 2 weeks after inoculation, plants were rated on a weekly basis for the development of external symptoms, on a subjective 1 (no symptoms) to 10 (dead) scale (3). After 5 weeks, inoculated plants of redbay in each experiment (positive control) had died after first developing symptoms of wilt and necrotic foliage that are typical for this disease (1). In contrast, inoculated plants of gulf licaria developed severe symptoms by the time experiments were terminated 6 and 11 weeks after inoculation; chlorosis developed on some of the leaves of all plants and these eventually abscised (mean external severities of 7.3 and 6.5, respectively), but plants did not die. Brown to greyish discoloration of sapwood developed in all inoculated plants, and the pathogen was recovered from symptomatic sapwood on CSMA (3). No symptoms developed on mock inoculated plants and the pathogen was not recovered from them. It is concluded that gulf licaria is susceptible to laurel wilt, but that it is apparently less susceptible than redbay. Whether X. glabratus is attracted to, or will bore into, gulf licaria is not known, but will play a significant role in the extent to which this rare tree is affected by laurel wilt. Résumé :
287 Background: Addition of immune checkpoint blockade to anti-HER2 therapy has improved outcomes in HER2-positive GEC. Anti-HER2 antibody-drug conjugates have shown activity in some HER2-L tumors in other tumor types. We aimed to compare the molecular profile and TIME of HER2-L and HER-H GEC. Methods: 8678 GEC (gastric, GE junction, and esophageal) adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma samples were analyzed by next-generation sequencing (NGS) of RNA (whole transcriptome, NovaSeq), DNA (592 genes, NextSeq, or whole exome sequencing, NovaSeq), and immunohistochemistry (IHC, Caris Life Sciences, Phoenix, AZ). Cohorts were stratified by IHC HER2 values of 0 (non-expressors), 1-2+ (HER2-L), or 3+ (HER2-H) and compared using X2 or Fisher-Exact. Statistical significance was determined as P-value adjusted for multiple comparisons (q < 0.05). Microenvironment cell population (MCP) counter was used to quantify immune cell infiltration. Results: Tumor were grouped into HER2 non-expressors (N = 5217), L (N = 2660), and H (N = 801). Mutations of TP53 (72% vs 92%) and amplification of MYC (4% vs 7%), CCNE1 (7% vs 12%), CCND3 (2% vs 4%), CDK6 (3% vs 6%), SMARCE1 (2% vs 25%) and RARA (3% vs 24%) were significantly lower in HER2-L compared to HER2-H (q < 0.05). ARID1A (14% vs 9%), PIK3CA (8% vs 3%), KRAS (9% vs 2%), GNAS (2% vs 0.3%), KMT2D (6% vs 1%), CDH1 (5% vs 1%), and ATM (4% vs 1%) mutations were significantly higher in HER2-L compared to HER2-H (q < 0.05). HER2-L was associated with more TMB-H (9.3% vs. 5%; q<0.05), MSI-H (4.7% vs. 0.6%; q<0.05), and a trend towards higher PD-L1 expression than in HER2-H (80.8% vs 76.1%, p < 0.05 but q > 0.05). Immuno-oncology (IO)-related gene expression inversely correlated with HER2 expression with lowest expression of PDCD1LG2, CD274, CTLA4, PDCD1, HAVCR2, CD80, IFNG, LAG3, and CD86 in HER2-H (q < 0.05). HER2-L had significantly higher median immune infiltration of B cells (fold change [FC]: 1.22), T cells (FC: 1.16), CD8+ T cells (FC: 1.56), NK cells (FC: 1.12), neutrophils (FC: 1.10), cytotoxic lymphocytes (FC: 1.36), and myeloid dendritic cells (FC: 1.34), compared to HER2-H (q < 0.05). HER2 non-expressors showed similar immune cell infiltrates compared to HER2-H. HER2-H was associated with lower T-cell inflamed scores and IFN gamma signature when compared to HER2-L and non-expressors (q < 0.05). Conclusions: To our knowledge, this study is the first and largest comparison of molecular profile and TIME in HER2-expressing GEC. We demonstrated distinct molecular and TIME profiles with higher immunogenic profiles in HER-L as compared to HER2-H. IO-related gene expression and TIME cell distribution differences in HER2-H GEC suggest that response to IO and HER2 therapy combinations is likely related to HER2-targeted treatment effect on TIME rather than baseline immunogenicity of the tumor.

Résumé :
Background30% of patients with SLE have APS, so clinical thromboembolic, obstetric and laboratory manifestations have been extensively studied in this population. The association between antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) and non-thrombotic manifestations that are not part of the Sydney classification criteria for APS are particularly important in patients with SLE.ObjectivesTo compare the presence of non-criteria non-thrombotic manifestations of APS in patients with SLE and APS, SLE with positive aPL, SLE with negative antibodies and different outcomes such as mortality, hospitalizations and damage score.MethodsObservational, analytical and cross-sectional multicenter study. Data were obtained from the review of the RELESSAR database. We included patients ≥ 18 years with diagnosis of SLE according to modified ACR 1984 criteria. The diagnosis of APS was made according to the Sidney Criteria 2006. The sample was classified into three groups based on the presence of established APS (Group 1), aPL carrier (Group 2) and aPL negative (Group 3). Non-criteria manifestations were described and compared in the three groups. Continuous variables were compared by Student’s or Mann Whitney’s T test, and categorical variables by Chi[2]test or Fisher’s exact test. In cases where a significant difference was found between the groups, multiple post hoc comparisons were made.ResultsOne thousand two hundred and two patients were included, 1,110 (92.3%) were women. One hundred and sixty patients (13.3%) had APS (group 1), 241 (20.04%) were aPL carrier (group 2) and 801 (66.6%) were negative for aPL (group 3). Patients with APS were older than patients in group 2 [42.6 (SD 13.5) vs 38 (SD 14.2), p 0.001] and 3 [42.6 (SD 13.5) vs 39.5 (SD 14.1) p 0.004]. The disease duration was longer in patients with APS compared to patients with SLE and negative aPL (138 months (SD 113) vs 101 (SD 113) (p <0.001). Table 1 shows non-thrombotic manifestations in the three groups. A higher percentage of patients with hemolytic anemia was observed in the APS group (p=0.001) and in the aPL carrier group (p=0.018) compared to negative aPL group. Patients with APS showed a higher proportion of thrombocytopenia when compared to patients with negative aPL (p=0.039). Acute cranial/peripheral neuropathy was more frequently observed in APS group compared to aPL-negative group (p=0.006). APS group was significantly associated with hospitalizations due SLE flares, morbidity and damage index (Table 2). A higher proportion of patients in the APS group had thrombotic events compared to aPL carrier and aPL negative groups (p<0.05).Table 1.Non-criteria non-thrombotic manifestationsAPS (group 1)aPL + (group 2)aPL – (group 3)pHemolytic anemia31 (19.9%)37 (15.4%)75 (9.47%)<0.001Thrombocytopenia41 (26.6%)56 (23.4%)138 (17.6%)0.011Depression23 (14.8%)17 (7.05%)92 (11.6%)0.041Acute Neuropathy10 (6.62%)9 (3.73%)14 (1.77%)0.002Table 2.Patient prognostic measuresAPS (group 1)aPL + (group 2)aPL – (group 3)pHospitalizations96 (62.3%)119 (49.8%)401 (50.4%)0.02Charlson Score2.43 (1.92)2.01 (1.51)1.95 (1.46)0.009SLICC1.53 (1.66)1.04 (1.32)0.960 (1.34)<0.001ConclusionIn this nation-wide SLE cohort, neurological and hematological manifestations were frequently observed in patients with secondary APS. Résumé :
Lack of liquidity which acts as a constraint for agricultural development has provided a rationale for rapid growth in formal agricultural credit in Pakistan since the early 1960s. Between 1959-60 and 1991-92 institutional credit for the sector had registered an annual growth rate of 31 percent in nominal terms and 20 percent in real terms. The explosive increase in agricultural credit was accompanied by a creation of new financial institutions, the strengthening of already existing institutions and the adoption of credit policies to increase the flow of credit for the sector in general and for small farmers in particular. In this paper, an attempt is made to review farm credit policy in Pakistan in relation to its impact on agricultural growth and equity and to assess the strength of the credit institutions to keep contributi~g effectively to the provision of credit in the rural sector.
