Introduction: Obesity is a major and challenging public health problem. The aim of this substudy is to evaluate the effect of calcium supplementation on body weight in women recruited in the Calcium and Preeclampsia trial. Methods: Women were recruited before pregnancy and randomized to receive a calcium supplement containing 500 mg of elemental calcium or placebo until 20 weeks’ gestation; all women received 1.5 g from 20 weeks until delivery. Results: A total of 630 women conceived during the study, 322 allocated to calcium and 308 to placebo. Among these, 230 allocated to calcium and 227 allocated to placebo had information on body weight at baseline and at 8 weeks' gestation. During the study period, women allocated to calcium had a mean weight increase of 1.1 (SD ±5.5) kg, whereas those allocated to placebo had a mean increase of 1.5 (SD ±6.1) kg, a mean difference of 0.4 kg (95% −0.4 (−1.4 to 0.6); P = .408). Women classified as obese at the start of the trial had a lower body weight gain at 8 weeks’ gestation (1.0 kg; 95% CI: −3.2 to 1.2; P = .330) and at 32 weeks’ gestation (2.1 kg; 95% CI: 5.6-1.3; P = .225) if they received calcium as compared to placebo. However, none of these differences were statistically significant. Conclusion: The smaller increase in body weight found in women supplemented with 500 mg elemental calcium daily is quantitatively consistent with previous studies. However, in this study, the difference was not statistically significant.

We studied vertical distribution of bacteria and viruses in different layers of the Arctic sea ice drilled at the North Pole. The sampled multi-year ice was characterized by uneven vertical distribution of bacterial abundance. This characteristic varied within the range of 8±1.2×103 to 95±2.6×103 cells ml-1. The layers with the maximal bacterial abundance were located in the intermediate and lower layers of the ice cores. Bacterial biomass varied from 0.5 to 5 mg C m-3 with the mean value 1.57±0.2 mg C m-3. The ratio of viral to bacterial abundance varied from 0.6 to 28, with the mean value 12.5. The average total number of phages attached to bacteria was 6.2×103 viral particles ml-1. The number of viral particles located within bacterial cells varied from 2 to 21 particles per a bacterial cell. The frequency of visibly infected bacterial cells (FVIC) calculated for the upper, intermediate and lower layers of the ice was 0.92, 1.23 and 0.8% of the total bacterial abundance, respectively. The overall frequency of infected cells (FIC) calculated for the same layers was 6.3, 8.4 and 0.8% of bacteria numbers, respectively, while the viral-mediated mortality of bacteria (VMB) was 7.1, 9.8 and 6.1 %, respectively. Our data show that during the study period the rate of viral infection of bacterial cells and the viral-mediated mortality of bacterial cells in the multy-year ice of the North Pole were relatively low.

Ever increasing need for electrical vehicles (EVs) continually pushes the boundary of high-density energy storage systems. To date, the state of the art of lithium (Li) ion batteries (LIBs) consisting of graphite anode and high voltage Li intercalation cathodes cannot satisfy the energy demand from these applications. By replacing graphite anode with Li metal anode (LMA), specific energy density of Li metal batteries (LMBs) can increase by more than 50% because LMA has a much higher specific capacity (3820 mAh g-1) than that of graphite (372 mAh g-1). To further increase the energy density of Li batteries, the concept of “anode-free” Li batteries (AFLBs) has been explored. Similar approach can also be used in “anode-free” sodium (Na) batteries (AFSBs) to further improve their energy densities. In this work, we will report our recent work on the development of AFLBs and AFSBs. The common challenges in these batteries will be analyzed and compared first. Several approaches, including development of novel electrolytes, substrate treatment, optimization of testing protocol and environment conditions, have been adopted to increase the cycle life of these batteries. 1. We studied neutrophil-activating peptide-1/interleukin-8 in inflammatory bowel disease. 2. Mucosal levels of neutrophil-activating peptide-1/ interleukin-8 were significantly higher in patients with active ulcerative colitis [median 74.5 (range 17.7–450.8) pg/mg] than in patients with active Crohn's disease [10.4 (4–46.9) pg/mg; P<0.002] or in normal control subjects [10.4(4–16.6) pg/mg; P <0.002]. 3. Circulating neutrophil-activating peptide-1/interleukin-8 was generally undetectable but there were higher levels of anti-neutrophil-activating peptide-1/interleukin-8 antibodies in patients with active ulcerative colitis [62.9 (3.4–239) ng/ml] than in patients with active Crohn's disease [5.9 (2.1–18.10) ng/ml; P <0.001] or in control subjects [6.1 (3.2–15.8) ng/ml; P <0.001]. 4. Neutrophil-activating peptide-1/interleukin-8 may be of specific functional importance in mediating inflammation in ulcerative colitis.

Se introdujo la leguminosa Arachis pintoi CIAT 17434 (AP) en una pastura de gramas nativas, para estudiar su efecto sobre la conducta de ingestión del animal al pastar, en la época lluviosa del trópico húmedo del estado de Veracruz. Los tratamientos fueron gramas nativas (PN, testigo) y AP asociado a gramas nativas (PNA). La rotación fue 1 día de pastoreo/20 días de recuperación con carga de 3.2 vacas F1 (Holstein x Cebú)/ha. Las diferencias se probaron a P<0.05, presentándose primero las medias ± error estandar de PNA y luego de PN. Hubo diferencias entre tratamientos en cantidad de materia seca (MS) presente antes del pastoreo (4,225 ± 212 vs 3,314 ± 212 kg/ha), así como en proteína cruda (15.1 ± 0.45 vs 10.6 ± 0.5 %) y materia orgánica (MO) digestible (67.65 ± 1.7 vs 64.1 ± 2.4 %) de la extrusa esofágica. El tiempo de pastoreo (367 ± 11 vs 380 ± 11 min/24 h) fue similar entre tratamientos y el de rumia diferente (291 ± 8 vs 379 ± 8 min/24 h). No hubo diferencias en consumo de MO calculado por Cr-indigestibilidad in situ (2.09 ± 0.11 vs 2.16 ± 0.11 kg MO/100 kg PV), pero por comportamiento ingestivo, si las hubo (1.54 ± 0.12 vs 2.02 ± 0.12). La producción diaria (kg/vaca) de leche ordeñada (6.8 ± 0.4 vs 6.1 ± 0.4) y consumida por el becerro (4.4 ± 0.4 vs 3.8 ± 0.5) fueron similares, pero la producción total fue diferente (9.0 ± 0.6 vs 7.2 ± 0.6 kg/animal/ día).

Abstract Introduction: It is increasingly important to understand the long term risk associated with transplantation because the number of long term survivors is steadily growing. In comparison to other long term risks following transplantation like infertility, cataracts, endocrine dysfunction, etc. the risk of second malignancy is likely to be associated with increased risk of mortality and hence significant impact on survival outcomes. This retrospective, single centre analysis was undertaken to evaluate the risk of second solid malignancy in patients undergoing HSCT. Methods: From February 1973 to November 2013, 1983 patients (median age: 45yr., range: 14-76 yr.; M: 1259, F: 724) received stem cell transplants for haematological malignancies (Ac. Leuk: 507, Chr. Leuk: 97, lymphoma:645, myeloma:621, solid tumours:113). Donor was allogeneic (n=528) or autologous (n=1455) and conditioning was with (n=556) or without TBI (n=1427). Donor was sibling (n=302), matched unrelated (n=220) or cord blood (n=6). Source of stem cell was marrow (n=322), PBSC (n=1627), both (n=28) or cord blood (n=6). GVH prophylaxis included Campath in 203 cases. Of all the patients 1774 received single transplant but 209 received more than one transplant. Data was analysed as of 01/12/2013 using competing risk models with death as the competing event. Patients who developed second haematological malignacy were not included in this analysis. Results: Patient follow-up was more than 10 years in 382 cases (19%), between 5 to 10 years in 328 (17%), 1 to 5 years in 667 (34%) and less than 1 year in 606 cases (31%). Second solid malignancy developed in 70 patients with the incidence of 1% at 5yr (95% CI: 0.5-1.6), 2.2% at 10 yr (95% CI: 1.6-3.3), 4.8% at 15yr (95% CI: 3.6-6.8) and 8% (95% CI: 5.9-10.5) at 20 years. Site of second malignancy was brain (n=2), breast (n=15), cervix (n=3), GIT (n=11), genitourinary (n=9), lung (n=3), skin (n=17), head & neck (n=7), thyroid (n=3) and non EBV related lymphoma (n=3). In univariate analysis 10 yr. probability of developing SSM was not influenced by gender, stage of disease, primary diagnosis, type of HSCT, use of TBI, cranial top-up radiation, type of donor or year of transplant. It was significantly higher with use of PBSC (1.4% vs. 2.6%, p=0.02) and age above 65yr. (1.5% vs. 11%, p=0.001). In multi-variate analysis age above 65yr. (RR: 1.8, 95% CI: 1.1-2.9, p=0.02) and PBSC (RR: 9.4, 95% CI: 1-99, p=0.05) were independently associated with increased risk of SMN. 19 patients have died due to SSM (27%) and survival was significantly shorter with gastrointestinal, genitourinary and lung cancers. Conclusion: This single centre analysis shows that the risk of developing SSM increases with advancing age, longer follow-up and the survival is poor. Long term survivors of stem cell transplants need follow-up probably for life in speciality clinics. Continued vigilance, avoidance of known carcinogens and life style changes are strongly recommended. Дослідження проведені на маточному поголів’ї (5550 голів), які належать 13 племінним стадам 6 областей півдня (Кіровоградської, Дніпропетровської, Миколаївської, Одеської, Херсонської) та сходу (Донецької) України. У парувальну кампанію залучено 67 бугаїв, у тому числі англерської (16% від загальної чисельності), голштинської (78,9%) червоної масті та власної української червоної молочної (22,7%) порід. Зазначена кількість англерських бугаїв-плідників використовується у 3 племінних господарствах на 21 корові, голштинських у 13 господарствах на поголів’ї 4267 голів (2771 корів та 1496 телиць різних вікових груп) та української червоної молочної у 8 господарствах на маточному поголів’ї 1262 голови (655 корів та 907 телиць). Англерські бугаї належать до однієї заводської та 2 споріднених груп, голштинські до 12 споріднених груп та бугаї вітчизняної української червоної молочної до 2 заводських ліній та 5 споріднених груп. Серед бугаїв голштинської породи, слід відмітити лінії Астронавта 1458744, Кавалера 1620273, Старбака 352790 та Чіфа 1427381 з чисельністю 500 маток. За генеалогічною структурою маточне поголів’я української червоної молочної породи належать до 3 апробованих заводських ліній (Фрема 17291, Хеневе 1629391, Інгансе 343514) та 19 споріднених груп. Поширеними серед англерської породи, слід відмітити, бугая Інго UA 10591853/100800514 (СІ+382), голштинської червоної масті бугаїв Канді NL 10917081, СІ+636 (822 голови у 6 племінних стадах) та Канцлера DE 768305280, СІ+427 (372 голови у 7 стадах), а серед власної вітчизняної бугаїв Драгоміра DE 113021400, СІ+497 (623 голови у 5 стадах), Сургуча UA 6500134711, СІ+475 (524 голови у 2 стадах) та Цвітка UA 435, СІ+576 (363 голови у 3 стадах), які мають найбільше представництво за маточним поголів’ям. Генетичний матеріал представлених бугаїв має високий генетичний потенціал за надоєм первісток, оскільки його реалізація у кращих стадах знаходиться на рівні 7 т …9 т, а серед індивідуальних значень на рівні 11 т.

This study aimed to describe the long-term outcomes of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) induced by dasatinib.21 incident, right heart catheterisation-confirmed cases of dasatinib-induced PAH were identified from the French Pulmonary Hypertension Registry. Clinical and haemodynamic variables were compared from baseline to last follow-up (median (range) 24 (1–81) months).Median age was 52 years and 15 patients were female (71%). 19 patients received dasatinib for chronic myelogenous leukaemia for a median (range) duration of 42 (8–74) months before PAH diagnosis. No bone morphogenic protein receptor-2 (BMPR2) mutations were found in the 10 patients tested. Dasatinib was uniformly discontinued and 11 patients received PAH medications. Four patients died during follow-up. New York Heart Association functional class improved from 76% in class III/IV to 90% in class I/II (p<0.01). Median (range) 6-min walk distance improved from 306 (0–660) to 430 (165–635) m (p<0.01). Median (range) mean pulmonary arterial pressure improved from 45 (30–70) to 26 (17–50) mmHg (p<0.01) and pulmonary vascular resistance from 6.1 (3.2–27.3) to 2.6 (1.2–5.9) Wood units (p<0.01). Patients treated with PAH medications had worse baseline haemodynamics but similar long-term outcomes to untreated patients. PAH persisted in 37% of patients.Dasatinib-induced PAH frequently improves after discontinuation but persisted in over one-third of patients, therefore systematic follow-up is essential.

The experimental determination of the reflection coefficients in the visible region of the spectrum of chromium oxide films unexposed and exposed to laser radiation was performed. The reflection coefficients were measured using a Linza - 150 spectrophotometer (operating spectrum range from 380 to 1700 nm). The obtained characteristic values of the reflection coefficients of samples of chromium oxide films at different wavelengths are presented in the table and in the form of graphs. It was found that the reflectance of the chromium oxide film before exposure to laser radiation monotonically decreases with increasing wavelength from 380 to 450 nm, with a further increase in wavelength to 630 nm, the reflectance increases monotonically. Despite some evidence of the involvement of the serotonergic system in cluster headache (CH) pathophysiology, the serotonin (5HT) metabolism has so far been poorly studied. The aim of this study was to investigate plasma and platelet levels of 5HT and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5HIAA) in CH patients in the active period of the disease. Nineteen CH sufferers and 17 sex- and age-matched healthy controls were studied. CH patients showed significantly higher plasma levels of 5HT and 5HIAA compared to controls (5HT: 5.7±6.1 ng/ml vs 0.2±0.2 ng/ml; p=0.02; 5HIAA: 34.7±46.1 ng/ml vs 0.6±0.7 ng/ml; p=0.004). In platelet 5HT levels were slightly reduced in CH patients in comparison with those of control subjects (662.4±522.3 ng/10-8 platelets vs 832.4±587.9 ng/10-8 platelets; n.s.) and 5HIAA levels resulted significantly lower in CH sufferers than in control subjects (3.2±2.6 ng/10-8 platelets vs 6.7±4.8 ng/10-8 platelets; p=0.04). Our data suggest that CH is characterized by an increase of plasma serotonergic metabolism that could reflect an involvement of the central serotonergic system in the pathogenesis of CH.

In a placebo-controlled, randomized dose—response study the effect of the prostaglandin analogue epoprostenol (FlolanR) on the plasma level of atrial natriuretic peptide has been investigated in 14 healthy control subjects. 2. During epoprostenol infusion, atrial natriuretic peptide increased significantly in a dose-dependent manner, while it remained unchanged during placebo infusion [2 ng min−1 kg−1: epoprostenol 13.2% versus placebo −2.9%; 4 ng min−1 kg−1: epoprostenol 13.4% versus placebo −6.1%; 8 ng min−1 kg−1: epoprostenol 40.7% versus placebo −7.8% (medians), P < 0.01 for all]. 3. Mean blood pressure and heart rate increased significantly after epoprostenol, but were unchanged during placebo infusion [8 ng min−1 kg−1; mean blood pressure: epoprostenol −5.6% versus placebo 3.2%; heart rate: epoprostenol 32.7% versus placebo 3.1% (medians), P < 0.01]. 4. It is concluded that epoprostenol given intravenously increases the plasma level of atrial natriuretic peptide. The results support the hypothesis of an interaction between the prostaglandin system and atrial natriuretic peptide.

IntroductionSeveral studies have shown clinical outcomes data that support the use of CD274 (PD-L1) copy-number (CN) gains and/or losses as a biomarker for immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICPI). Here, we present the landscape of CD274 CN changes across a large cohort of solid tumor cases and correlate these with PD-L1 protein expression by immunohistochemistry.MethodsWe analyzed all cases that underwent comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) testing at Foundation Medicine between August 2014 and June 2020. CD274 CN changes were correlated with PD-L1 expression in tumor types where there were Food and Drug Administration approved companion diagnostic (CDx) claims and the CDx assay was used to assess PD-L1 expression.ResultsIn all, 244 584 samples representing 290 solid tumor types were included in the study. Overall, 17.6% (42 983/244 584) had CD274 CN gains (>specimen ploidy), 44.6% (108 970/244 584) were CD274 CN neutral, and 37.9% (92 631/244 584) had CD274 CN loss. Using different CN cut offs to define CD274 positivity resulted in different prevalence estimates: ploidy +1, 17.4% (42 636/244 584); ploidy +2, 6.2% (15 183/244 584); ploidy +3, 2.2% (5375/244 584); ploidy +4, 1.1% (2712/244 584); and ploidy +8, 0.2% (434/244 584). The prevalence of CN changes and CN positivity varied based on tumor type. CD274 CN gains were significantly associated with PD-L1 positivity in NSCLC, urothelial carcinoma, breast carcinoma, cervical carcinoma, esophagus squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and head and neck SCC (ORs 3.3, 3.0, 2.0, 4.5. 3.8, 8.4, 1.4, respectively; p<0.05) and with microsatellite instability status in only clinically relevant tumor types (gastric adenocarcinoma, colorectal adenocarcinoma, uterine endometrial adenocarcinoma, esophageal adenocarcinoma and gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma (OR: 5.2, 1.9, 3.2, 3.7 and 6.5, respectively; p<0.05)). Conversely, CD274 CN changes were not significantly correlated with tumor mutational burden in almost all the tumor types.ConclusionCD274 CN changes and PD-L1 expression were highly correlated in multiple tumor types. These prevalence data on CD274 CN changes across a large cohort of different solid tumors can be used to design future clinical studies to assess whether CD274 CN changes could be a potential biomarker for ICPI.

Context. Fermi Large Area Telescope (Fermi-LAT) has recently detected γ-ray emission from active galactic nuclei (AGN) that do not show clear evidence for optical blazar characteristics or have jets pointing away from the observer (nonblazar AGNs). These are interesting γ-ray emitters providing an alternative approach to studying high energy emission processes. Aims. This paper investigates the spectral and temporal properties of γ-ray emission from nonblazar AGNs using the recent Fermi-LAT observational data. Methods. The data collected by Fermi-LAT during 2008–2015, from the observations of 26 nonblazar AGNs, including 11 Fanaroff–Riley Type I (FRI) and ten FRII radio galaxies and steep spectrum radio quasars (SSRQs) and five narrow line seyfert 1s (NLSy1s) are analysed using the new PASS 8 event selection and instrument response function. Possible spectral changes above GeV energies are investigated with a detailed spectral analysis. Light curves generated with normal and adaptive time bins are used to study the γ-ray flux variability. Results. Non-blazar AGNs have a γ-ray photon index in the range of 1.84–2.86 and a flux varying from a few times 10−9 photon cm−2 s−1 to 10−7 photon cm−2 s−1. Over long time periods, the power law provides an adequate description of the γ-ray spectra of almost all sources. Significant curvature is observed in the γ-ray spectra of NGC 1275, NGC 6251, SBS 0846 + 513, and PMN J0948 + 0022 and their spectra are better described by log parabola or by the power law with exponential cut-off models. The γ-ray spectra of PKS 0625-25 and 3C 380 show a possible deviation from a simple power-law shape, indicating a spectral cut-off around the observed photon energy of Ecut = 131.2 ± 88.04 GeV and Ecut = 55.57 ± 50.74 GeV, respectively. Our analysis confirms the previous finding of an unusual spectral turnover in the γ-ray spectrum of Cen A: the photon index changes from Γ = 2.75 ± 0.02 to 2.31 ± 0.1 at 2.35 ± 0.08 GeV. In the Γ−Lγ plane, the luminosity of nonblazar AGNs is spread in the range of (1041–1047) erg s−1, where those with the lowest luminosity are FRI radio galaxies (but typically appear with a harder photon index) and those with the highest luminosity have are SSRQs/NLSY1s (with softer photon indexes). We confirm the previously reported short-timescale flux variability of NGC 1275 and 3C 120. The γ-ray emission from NLSY1s, 1H 0323 + 342, SBS 0846 + 513, and PMN J0948 + 0022 is variable, showing flares in short scales sometimes accompanied by a moderate hardening of their spectra (e.g., for MJD 56146.8 the γ-ray photon index of SBS 0846 + 513 was Γ = 1.73 ± 0.14). Non-blazar AGNs 3C 111, Cen A core, 3C 207, 3C 275.1, 3C 380, 4C + 39.23B, PKS 1502 + 036, and PKS 2004-447 show a long-timescale flux variability in the γ-ray band.

Context. Class 0 protostars represent the earliest evolutionary stage of solar-type stars, during which the majority of the system mass resides in an infalling envelope of gas and dust and is not yet in the central, nascent star. Although X-rays are a key signature of magnetic activity in more evolved protostars and young stars, whether such magnetic activity is present at the Class 0 stage is still debated. Aims. We aim to detect a bona fide Class 0 protostar in X-rays. Methods. We observed HOPS 383 in 2017 December in X-rays with the Chandra X-ray Observatory (∼84 ks) and in near-infrared imaging with the Southern Astrophysical Research telescope. Results. HOPS 383 was detected in X-rays during a powerful flare. This hard (E > 2 keV) X-ray counterpart was spatially coincident with the northwest 4 cm component of HOPS 383, which would be the base of the radio thermal jet launched by HOPS 383. The flare duration was ∼3.3 h; at the peak, the X-ray luminosity reached ∼4 × 1031 erg s−1 in the 2−8 keV energy band, a level at least an order of magnitude larger than that of the undetected quiescent emission from HOPS 383. The X-ray flare spectrum is highly absorbed (NH ∼ 7 × 1023 cm−2), and it displays a 6.4 keV emission line with an equivalent width of ∼1.1 keV, arising from neutral or low-ionization iron. Conclusions. The detection of a powerful X-ray flare from HOPS 383 constitutes direct proof that magnetic activity can be present at the earliest formative stages of solar-type stars.

El estado de Colima es productor importante de limón, las afectaciones por efecto del Huanglonbing (HLB) han ocasionado pérdidas en forma progresiva. Hasta el momento no se conoce cura y los productores han decidido realizar cambios en la dinámica de cultivos. El objetivo de este trabajo fue cuantificar los cambios, mediante análisis espacial (PR) y herramientas del sistema de información geográfica (SIG); se realizaron clasificaciones supervisadas de imágenes Landsat 7 y Landsat 8, comprobando un progresivo aumento en la sustitución de cultivos en los últimos cinco años. Hasta el momento se han sustituido alrededor de 5000 ha de cítricos, lo que ha significado una reducción de 84 721.88 t en el volumen de producción del limón mexicano y una pérdida de 302 636 729 pesos aproximadamente.

ABSTRACT Introduction: A diagnosis of rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD) currently requires confirmation with polysomnography (PSG). However, PSG may not be sufficiently available. In these situations, a clinical diagnostic measure might be useful. Objective: To validate the Brazilian Portuguese version of RBD screening questionnaire (RBDSQ) for patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Methods: Using detailed clinical interviews and PSG analysis (diagnostic gold standard), a convenience sample of 69 subjects was divided into the following subgroups: patients with PD and RBD (PD+RBD; n=50) and patients with PD alone (PD-RBD; n=19). Results: RBDSQ-BR showed adequate internal consistency (Cronbach’s α=0.809) and, except for item 8, adequate item-test correlation. The retest performed in a second sample (n=13, consecutive) showed high agreement for total score (intraclass correlation coefficient, ICC=0.863) and acceptable agreement for items 2, 3, 6.2, 6.3, 7, and 8 (K>0.60). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis had an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.728. A cut-off score of 4 enabled the correct diagnosis of 76.8% subjects and provided the best balance between sensitivity (84%) and specificity (57.9%), with a 2.0 likelihood ratio of a positive result (LR+) and a 0.3 likelihood ratio of a negative result (LR-). Items 2 and 6.2 had 84.2% specificity and 3.2 LR+. Combined items 1+2+6.2, 2+6.1, and 6.1+6.2 increased the specificity to 94.7%, with LR+ ranging from 6.1 to 7.6. Conclusions: RBDSQ-BR is a reliable instrument, which may be useful for RBD diagnosis of Brazilian patients with PD. The instrument is also valid and may help in a better selection of cases for a more detailed clinical evaluation or even PSG analysis.

Purpose To determine whether aprinocarsen, an antisense oligonucleotide directed against protein kinase C-alpha, when added to the chemotherapy regimen of gemcitabine and cisplatin improved survival in patients with advanced non–small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Patients and Methods Patients with previously untreated stage IIIB/IV NSCLC and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status of 0 or 1, were randomly assigned to either a control arm of gemcitabine 1,250 mg/m2 on days 1 and 8 and cisplatin 80 mg/m2 on day 1, or experimental arms consisting of the identical chemotherapy plus aprinocarsen 2 mg/kg/d as continuous infusion for 14 days, starting on either day 1 or 3 days before chemotherapy. Cycles were repeated every 21 days. Results A total of 670 patients were randomly assigned between the control (n = 328) and experimental arms (n = 342). Due to the results from another phase III study of aprinocarsen in NSCLC, further enrollment was stopped, and the study was terminated early. The median number of cycles was four on the control arm and three on the combined experimental arms. Median overall survival was not different between the two groups (control, 10.4 months [95% CI, 8.6 to 12.2]; experimental, 10.0 months [95% CI, 8.4 to 10.8]; P = .613; hazard ratio = 1.05 [95% CI, 0.88 to 1.25]). Response rates (control arm, 35.0%; experimental arms, 28.9%; P = .124) and other time-to-event measures were not significantly different. Grade 3 and 4 toxicities were significantly increased for thrombocytopenia (P < .0001), epistaxis, and thrombosis/embolism in the experimental arms. Conclusion Adding aprinocarsen to gemcitabine and cisplatin regimen did not enhance survival and other efficacy measures in patients with advanced NSCLC.

At a distance of 2.4 kpc, W33 is an outstanding massive and luminous 10 pc-sized star forming complex containing quiescent infrared dark clouds as well as highly active infrared bright cloud cores heated by young massive stars. We report measurements of ammonia (NH3) inversion lines in the frequency range 18–26 GHz obtained with the 40′′ resolution of the 100 m Effelsberg telescope. We detect the (J, K) = (1,1), (2,2), (3,3), (4,4), (5,5), (6,6), (2,1), and (3,2) transitions. There is a maser line in the (3,3) transition towards W33 Main. Brightness temperature and line shape indicate no significant variation during the last ~36 yr. We determined kinetic temperatures, column densities, and other physical properties of NH3 and the molecular clouds in W33. For the total-NH3 column density inside 40′′ (0.5 pc) regions, we find 6.0 (±2.1) × 1014, 3.5 (±0.1) × 1015, 3.4 (±0.2) × 1015, 3.1 (±0.2) × 1015, 2.8 (±0.2) × 1015, and 2.0 (±0.2) × 1015 cm−2 at the peak positions of W33 Main, W33 A, W33 B, W33 Main1, W33 A1, and W33 B1, respectively. W33 Main has a total-NH3 fractional abundance of 1.3 (±0.1) × 10−9 at the peak position. High values of 1.4 (±0.3) × 10−8, 1.6 (±0.3) × 10−8, 3.4 (±0.5) × 10−8, 1.6 (±0.5) × 10−8, and 4.0 (±1.2) × 10−8 are obtained at the central positions of W33 A, W33 B, W33 Main1, W33 A1, and W33 B1. From this, we confirm the previously proposed variation in the evolutionary stages of the six W33 clumps and find that there is no hot core in the region approaching the extreme conditions encountered in W51-IRS2 or Sgr B2. The ortho-to-para-NH3 abundance ratios suggest that ammonia should have been formed in the gas phase or on dust grain mantles at kinetic temperatures of ≳20 K. We determine kinetic temperatures only using NH3 (1,1) and (2,2), and from this we provide gas volume densities for the six main sources in the W33 region. With our new Tkin values, we find that our volume densities are similar to those estimated by Immer et al. (2014, A&A, 572, A63), suggesting that ammonia beam-filling factors are close to unity.

Проведено комплексне обстеження 50 дітей шкільного віку, хворих на бронхіальну астму фізичного напруження (БАФН), яку діагностували за наявності в анамнезі хворого вказівок на появу симптомів БА після фізичного навантаження та/або визначення індексу бронхоспазму більше 15 % при проведенні спірографічної проби з дозованим бігом. При ацетиляторному фенотипі хворих розподілили на дві клінічні групи. «Швидкий» ацетиляторний фенотип у дітей, хворих на БАФН, асоціюється з вірогідним ризиком виснаження киснезалежного метаболізму еозинофільних гранулоцитів крові за даними тесту з нітросинім тетразолієм (СШ – 6,1 [95 % ДІ 3,3–11,3]) та зниженням фагоцитарного числа даних ефекторних клітин (СШ – 12,5 [95 % ДІ 6,4–24,5]). Повільний тип ацетилювання у пацієнтів з фенотипом БАФН збільшує ризик реєстрації підвищеної концентрації ІЛ-5 у сироватці крові порівняно з особами ІІ групи, зокрема показник відносного ризику становить 2,8 (95 % ДІ 2,2–3,5) при співвідношенні шансів 6,2 (95 % ДІ 3,2–12), що, імовірно, пов’язано з атопічним запальним процесом організму і дозволяє персоналізувати лікувальну тактику.

631 Background: Surgery is the only treatment for cure of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (PNET). There are no effective biomarkers to assess completeness of resection and predict recurrence. The aims of this study were 1) evaluate if blood measurement of neuroendocrine gene transcripts (NETest) were diagnostic of PNET and 2) assess if blood levels correlated with the resection type (R0/ R1/R2). We compared transcript analysis with Chromogranin A (CgA), the current standard of care. Methods: A prospective, longitudinal, single center study (ClinicalTrials.gov ID: NCT03012789) of 30 PNETs. Blood for NETest and CgA were collected preop and on postop day 30 (POD30). Transcript measurement: real-time quantitative reverse transcription PCR and multianalyte algorithmic analysis (NETest) (normal 0-20, > 20 stable and > 40 progressive disease; CgA: (ELISA) (normal < 109mg/ml). Analysis: Student’s t test, Mann-Whitney U test and Fisher’s exact test. Data: mean±SEM. Results: Surgical resections ( n= 30) were: 26 R0, 2 R1, 2 R2. In vitro diagnostic: Preop NETest positive in all 30 (NETest: 38±4) (1005) whereas CgA levels positive (220±66ng/ml) in 9 (30%, p< 0.0001). Surgery R0: ( n= 26): NETest significantly decreased from pre-op of 45±3 to 21±4 ( p< 0.001) at POD30. Post operatively 13 (50%) exhibited an elevated score. One patient (Ki67 18%; extensive nodal involvement) had a score of 80, consistent with residual progressive disease. The remaining 12 had NETest levels of 27 at POD 30. CgA was elevated in 8 (31%) with no decrease at POD30 (154±44ng/ml vs. 109±22ng/ml). R1/R2 ( n= 4): NETest scores unchanged (42±17 vs 46±16) at POD30. CgA levels unchanged (378±332 vs. 753±634ng/ml). Conclusions: The NETest is an accurate in vitro diagnostic biomarker for PNET (100%). After R0 resection NETest decrease indicates the blood test is concordant with tumor removal. Elevated post-resection scores are consistent with residual disease and with reported recurrence rates after pancreatic surgery. CgA exhibited no clinical utility. At 1 month post-surgery, the NETest provides an early indication of high risk recurrence patients who can be stratified for further therapy. Clinical trial information: NCT03012789.

Objective: To evaluate prognostic factors in pediatric patients with gonadal germ cell tumors (GCT). Methods: Patients <18 years with ovarian and testicular GCT (respectively OGCT and TGCT) were prospectively registered according to the guidelines of MAKEI 96. After resection of the primary tumor, patients staged ≥II received risk-stratified cisplatin-based combination chemotherapy. Patients were analyzed in respect to age (six age groups divided into 3-year intervals), histology, stage, and therapy. The primary end point was overall survival. Results: Between January 1996 and March 2016, the following patients were registered: 1047 OGCT, of those, 630 had ovarian teratoma (OTER) and 417 had malignant OGCT (MOGCT); and 418 TGCT, of those, 106 had testicular teratoma (TTER) and 312 had malignant TGCT (MTGCT). Only in MTGCT, older age correlated with a higher proportion of advanced tumors. All 736 teratomas and 240/415 stage I malignant gonadal GCT underwent surgery and close observation alone. In case of watchful waiting, the progression rate of OGCT was higher than that of TGCT. However, death from disease was reported in 8/417 (1.9%) MOGCT and 8/312 (2.6%) MTGCT irrespective of adjuvant chemotherapy and repeated surgery. Conclusions: The different pathogenesis and histogenesis of gonadal GCT reflects sex- and age-specific patterns that define clinically relevant risk groups. Therefore, gender and age should be considered in further research on the biology and clinical practice of pediatric gonadal GCT.

Phase transition yesng happens to the material magnetite (Fe3O4) is an interesting phenomenon to study because it has many important applications, one of which is RAM (Radar Absorbing Material). The magnetic properties of nanomaterials are known to be influenced by their size. In this simulation research, the research objective was to analyze the temperature value of the Curie and the hysteresis curve of the Fe3O4 material with variations in the size of the material sample cube of 5 nm, 8 nm, 10 nm, 12 nm, and 15 nm. In this study, using a micromagnetic simulation method based on atomistic models with the Vampire program. The results showed that the Curie temperature value in the Fe3O4 material was influenced by variations in the size of the material. The Curie temperature values when the side sizes of the cube are 5 nm, 8 nm, 10 nm, 12 nm, and 15 nm, namely 650 K, 635 K, 650 K, 665 K and 645 K. The characteristics of the hysteresis curve for Fe3O4 material based on simulations at each material size (5 nm, 8 nm, 10 nm, 12 nm, and 15 nm) for several temperatures (0 K, 328 K, 473 K and 773 K) indicate that there is a change in the coercivity and field values. saturation.

Abstract A deglacial chronology for northern New England has been formulated using an atmospheric 14 C calibration of the New England Varve Chronology and paleomagnetic records. This 14 C chronology is based on 14 C ages from macrofossils of non-aquatic plants and is about 1 500 yr younger than existing chronologies that are based primarily on 14 C ages of bulk organic samples. The lower and upper Connecticut Valley varve sequences of Ernst Antevs (NE varves 2 701-6 352 and 6 601-8 500) overlap (lower 6 012 = upper 6 601) based on their crudely matching varve records and their similar paleomagnetic records. Three 14 C ages at Canoe Brook, Vermont (NE varve 6 150 = 12.3 14C ka) calibrate the lower Con necticut Valley sequence. New AMS and con ventional 14 C ages on woody twigs from Newbury, Vermont calibrate the upper se quence from 11.6-10.4 14 C ka (NE varves 7 440-8 660) and are consistent with the over lapping varve and paleomagnetic records, and the Canoe Brook 14 C ages. Deglaciation of the Connecticut Valley in southern Vermont began at 12.6 14 C ka (15.2 cal ka) and the Littleton-Bethlehem Readvance in northern New Hampshire and Vermont reached its maximum at11.9-11.8 14 C ka (14.0-13.9 cal ka) followed by recession of ice into Québec at about 11.5 14 C ka (13.4 cal ka). A lake persisted in the upper Connecticut Valley until at least 10.4 14 C ka (12.3 cal ka) and may have been seen by the first humans in the area.

We investigate the deuteration of methanol towards the high-mass star-forming region NGC 7538-IRS1. We carried out a multi-transition study of CH3OH, 13CH3OH, and the deuterated flavors, CH2DOH and CH3OD, between 1.0 and 1.4 mm with the IRAM-30 m antenna. In total, 34 13CH3OH, 13 CH2DOH lines and 20 CH3OD lines spanning a wide range of upper-state energies (Eup) were detected. From the detected transitions, we estimate that the measured D/H does not exceed 1%, with a measured CH2DOH/CH3OH and CH3OD/CH3OH of about (32 ± 8) × 10−4 and (10 ± 4) × 10−4, respectively. This finding is consistent with the hypothesis of a short-timescale formation during the pre-stellar phase. We find a relative abundance CH2DOH/CH3OD ratio of 3.2 ± 1.5. This result is consistent with a statistical deuteration. We cannot exclude H/D exchanges between water and methanol if water deuteration is of the order 0.1%, as suggested by recent Herschel observations.

342 Background: Rigosertib (ON 01910.Na), a dual non-ATP inhibitor of polo-like kinase 1 (Plk1) and phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) pathways, was assessed in patients with treatment-naïve metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Methods: Patients with metastatic adenocarcinoma of the pancreas were randomized in a 2:1 fashion to gemcitabine 1000 mg/m2 weekly for 3 weeks of a 4-week cycle plus rigosertib 1800mg/m2 via 2-hr CIV infusions given twice weekly for 3 weeks of a 4-week cycle versus gemcitabine 1000mg/m2 weekly for 3 weeks in a 4-week cycle. Results: A total of 160 patients were enrolled globally and randomly assigned to rigosertib plus gemcitabine (106 patients) or gemcitabine (54). The most common grade 3 or higher adverse events were neutropenia (8% in the rigosertib plus gemcitabine group vs. 6% in the gemcitabine group), hyponatremia (17% vs. 4%), and anemia (8% vs. 4%). The primary outcome of the study, median OS, was 6.1 months in the gemcitabine plus rigosertib arm versus 6.4 months with gemcitabine alone (hazard ratio (HR), 1.24; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.85-1.81). The median PFS was 3.4 months for both groups (HR, 0.96; 95% CI, 0.68-1.36). The overall best response between arms were partial response rates of 19% versus 13% and stable disease in 50% versus 56% in the gemcitabine plus rigosertib versus gemcitabine alone, respectively. Of 64 tumor samples sent for molecular analysis, 47 were adequate for multiplex genetic testing and 41 were positive for mutations. The majority of cases had KRAS gene mutations (40/47, 85%), which included c.35G>T, p.G12V (12 cases), c.35G>A, p.G12D (21 cases), c.34G>C, p.G12R (4 cases), c.34G>T, p.G12C (1 case) and c.183C>A, p.Q61H (2 cases). Other mutations detected included TP53 (13 cases) and PIK3CA(1 case). No correlation between mutational status and efficacy was detected. Conclusions: The combination of rigosertib plus gemcitabine failed to demonstrate an improvement in survival or response compared to gemcitabine alone in metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Abstract The fully human monoclonal IgG1 antibody HuMax-CD20 targets a novel epitope of the CD20 molecule on B-cells. HuMax-CD20 stops growth of engrafted B-cell tumors in SCID mice more efficiently and exerts stronger complement activation than Rituximab. HuMax-CD20 kills Rituximab-resistant cells expressing low levels of CD20. Data are presented from an ongoing, open label, dose-escalation, multicenter clinical trial in patients with relapsed or refractory CD20+ follicular non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Four cohorts of 10 patients were treated with 4 weekly i.v. infusions of 300, 500, 700 or 1000 mg. The endpoints are adverse events, CT verified tumor response (central review) according to the Cheson criteria, B-cell depletion, time to next anti-lymphoma treatment, duration of response, BCL2 conversion and pharmacokinetics. Fourty patients have been treated. Mean age was 57 years; median number of prior treatment regimens was 2; 15 patients were previously treated with Rituximab. Rapid, efficient and sustained peripheral B-cell depletion was observed in all dose groups. No dose limiting toxicity has been reported. Only 8 short lasting episodes of grade 3 CTC were observed. Hematological toxicity was low and confined to 6 events of grade 1 neutropenia; no cases of thrombocytopenia were reported. The following pharmacokinetic parameters were derived (medians per dose group): Cmax 129, 185, 380 and 610 μg/ml, T½ 447, 245, 322 and 621 hr, Cl 9, 19, 10 and 7 ml/hr/kg and AUC 75000, 51000, 185000 and 326000 hr *μg/ml, for the 300, 500, 700 and 1000 mg dose groups, respectively. No correlation between pharmacokinetics and response was found. Objective responses (CR, CRu, PR) have been elevated in 36 patients and were obtained in all 4 dose groups; 4 CR + 1 CRu/8 (300mg), 1CR + 2 PR/9 (500mg), 2PR/10 (700mg) and 1 CRu + 4 PR/9 (1000mg). Objective responses were achieved in 8 of 14 (57%) evaluable patients previously treated with Rituximab, i.e. 3CR, 1 CRu and 4 PR. In total 18 patients showed stable disease; progression was observed in only 3 patients. Data on duration of response will be presented. In conclusion, this preliminary analysis demonstrates a favorable safety profile and encouraging efficacy of HuMax-CD20 in patients with follicular NHL. Objective responses were achieved in all dose groups with response rates up to 63% including a 57% response rate in patients previously treated with Rituximab.

The aim of this study was to investigate the developmental change of gastric myoelectrical activity in humans. Five groups of healthy subjects were studied, including 10 preterm newborns, 8 full-term newborns, 8 full-term infants (ages 2-6 mo), 9 children (ages 4-11 yr), and 9 adults. Gastric myoelectrical activity was recorded using surface electrogastrography for 30 min before and 30 min after a test meal in each subject. Spectral analysis methods were applied to compute the parameters of the electrogastrogram (EGG). The results showed that the percentage of 2- to-4-cycles/min (cpm) slow waves was 26.6 +/- 3.9% in the preterm newborns, 30.0 +/- 4.0% in full-term newborns, 70 +/- 6.1% in 2- to 6-mo-old infants (P < 0.001 compared with newborns), 84.6 +/- 3.2% in 4- to 11-yr-old children (P < 0.03 compared with infants), and 88.9 +/- 2.2% in the adults (P > 0.05 compared with children). In conclusion, gastric slow waves are absent at birth, and there is a maturing process after birth. Age-matched controls are necessary for the interpretation of EGG data from neonates and infants, whereas EGG data in children are the same as in adults.

Mean circulatory filling pressure (MCFP) has been measured after vagally induced cardiac arrest in 11 nonpregnant and 10 near-term pregnant rabbits, anesthetized with pentobarbital sodium. MCFP was 6.1 +/- 0.4 (SD) mmHg in the nonpregnant and 7.2 +/- 0.4 mmHg in the pregnant animals. The difference of 1.1 mmHg was significant (P < 0.001). Sympathetic blockade with bretylium tosylate (10 mg/kg) reduced MCFP by 0.4 mmHg in both nonpregnant and pregnant rabbits. Vascular capacitance was examined in the two groups. Unstressed vascular volume and vascular compliance were derived from measurements of MCFP after increasing blood volume by 8 and 16% or reducing it by 8%. The unstressed vascular volumes, 33.9 +/- 3.9 (SD) ml/kg in the nonpregnant and 35.1 +/- 3.2 ml/kg in the pregnant group, were not significantly different, but compliance in the pregnant group (4.0 +/- 0.6 ml.kg-1.mmHg-1) was significantly greater than in the nonpregnant rabbits (3.4 +/- 0.6 ml.kg-1.mmHg-1) (P < 0.05). We conclude that there are changes in vascular capacitance in rabbit pregnancy, probably not related to alterations in vasomotor activity, but these are insufficient to fully compensate for the increase in blood volume, thus leading to the rise in MCFP.

Repetitive activation of a skeletal muscle results in potentiation of the twitch contractile response. Incompletely fused tetanic contractions similar to those evoked by voluntary activation may also be potentiated by prior activity. We aimed to investigate the role of stimulation frequency on the enhancement of unfused isometric contractions in rat medial gastrocnemius muscles in situ. Muscles set at optimal length were stimulated via the sciatic nerve with 50-μs duration supramaximal pulses. Trials consisted of 8 s of repetitive trains [5 pulses (quintuplets) 2 times per second or 2 pulses (doublets) 5 times per second] at 20, 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80 Hz. These stimulation frequencies represent a range over which voluntary activation would be expected to occur. When the frequency of stimulation was 20, 50, or 70 Hz, the peak active force (highest tension during a contraction − rest tension) of doublet contractions increased from 2.2 ± 0.2, 4.1 ± 0.4, and 4.3 ± 0.5 to 3.1 ± 0.3, 5.6 ± 0.4, and 6.1 ± 0.7 N, respectively. Corresponding measurements for quintuplet contractions increased from 2.2 ± 0.2, 6.1 ± 0.5, and 8.7 ± 0.7 to 3.2 ± 0.3, 7.3 ± 0.6, and 9.0 ± 0.7 N, respectively. Initial peak active force values were 27 ± 1 and 61.5 ± 5% of the maximal (tetanic) force for doublet and quintuplet contractions, respectively, at 80 Hz. With doublets, peak active force increased at all stimulation frequencies. With quintuplets, peak active force increased significantly for frequencies up to 60 Hz. Twitch enhancement at the end of the 8 s of repetitive stimulation was the same regardless of the pattern of stimulation during the 8 s, and twitch peak active force returned to prestimulation values by 5 min. These experiments confirm that activity-dependent potentiation is evident during repeated, incompletely fused tetanic contractions over a broad range of frequencies. This observation suggests that, during voluntary motor unit recruitment, derecruitment or decreased firing frequency would be necessary to achieve a fixed (submaximal) target force during repeated isometric contractions over this time period.

This study aimed to analyze the impact of step-duration protocols, 1-min vs. 3-min, on cardiorespiratory responses to exercise, whatever the aerobic-fitness level of sedentary (65.5 ± 2.3 years,n= 8) or highly fit (63.1 ± 3.2 years,n= 19) participants. Heart rate and VO2at the first and second ventilatory thresholds (VT1, VT2) and maximal exercise were not significantly different between the two protocols. In master athletes, the 3-min protocol elicited significantly lower ventilation at VT2and maximal exercise (p< .01). In the latter, breathlessness was also lower at maximal exercise (p< .05) than in sedentary participants. In trained or sedentary older adults, VT1, VT2, and VO2maxwere not influenced by stage duration. According to the lower breathlessness and ventilation, however, the 3-min step protocol could be more appropriate in master athletes. In untrained participants, because the cardiorespiratory responses were similar with the two incremental exercise tests, either of them could be used.

Various aging treatments were conducted on AISI 630 martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel in order to optimize aging condition. Aging treatment was carried out with Ar gas in the chamber at temperature of 380°C, 400°C and 430°C and times of 2, 4 and 8 h. After obtaining the optimized aging condition, several nitrocarburizing treatments were done with and without the aging treatment. Nitrocarburizing was performed on the samples at 400V with a gas mixture of H2, N2 and CH4 for 15 hrs at 4.0 Torr vacuum pressure. The aging condition was optimized as 400°C temperature for 4 h. Better results were found when the samples were experimented with aging + nitrocarburizing treatment. In this combined process, the corrosion resistance improved noticeably which is confirmed by potentiodynamic polarization test and by observing the surface of the samples after corrosion test. Moreover, the surface hardness increases up to 1300 HV0.05 approximately and α'N layer thickness increases up to 11 μm (approximately).

372 Background: Although FOLFIRINOX is considered one of the standards for aPDAC, concerns emerged with regard to the safety profile in clinical practice. Thus, we investigated the impact of dose/schedule modifications and additional supportive measures. Methods: The clinical charts of 292 aPDAC patients (pts) receiving classic (group 1) or modified (m)FOLFIRINOX (group 2) were retrieved at 8 Institutions. Results: Table summarizes pts’ characteristics;82/709 and 188/1127 pts/cycles were analyzed for groups 1 and 2, respectively. Overall toxicity was mild; significant differences in G2-4 toxicities between the two groups: asthenia (12.5% vs 6%, p<0.0001), anemia (6.1% vs 3.1%, p=0. 003), diarrhea (6.5% vs 4%, p=0.02), and thrombocytopenia (5.4% vs 0.5%, p<0.0001), favouring group 2, and neutropenia (4.7% vs 12.3%, p<0.0001), favouring group 1. G-CSF was used more frequently in group 1 (80% vs 36%, p<0.0001). Dose delays were comparable between the two groups; dose reductions were more common in group 2 (39% vs 28%, p<0.00001). No differences in the complete control of nausea/vomiting at cycle 1 (no N/V) with or without aprepitant were observed (50% vs 45%, respectively). The presence of a biliary stent did not appear to significantly worsen toxicity. Overall ORR and disease control rate (DCR: PR+SD) were 40% and 62%, respectively, without significant differences between the two groups. Median PFS was 7 mos for both groups. Median OS, however, was significantly longer in group 2 (12 vs 18 mos, respectively; p=0.01). Conclusions: Both schedulesare easily manageable and well tolerated and may be safely administered on an outpatient basis in pts carrying biliary stents as well. The minimal differences in toxicity and efficacy obtained with mFolfirinox require additional investigation. [Table: see text]

Objetivo: Elaborar uma cartilha educativa sobre a orientação farmacêutica para a reconciliação medicamentosa em hipertensos e diabéticos e o uso seguro das plantas medicinais na atenção básica. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, documental e metodológico, utilizando-se de abordagem quantitativa e qualitativa, seguindo o percurso metodológico em três etapas: 1) reflexão sobre a temática; 2) realização de pesquisa e investigação preliminar mediante um questionário estruturado; 3) implementação da aplicação com a elaboração da cartilha. O estudo foi aprovado por Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa. Resultados: Identificou-se que 57,3% eram hipertensos, 3,2% eram diabéticos e 39,5% apresentavam-se diabéticos e hipertensos. Destes, 64,5% pacientes informaram seus próprios medicamentos, 34,7% dos pacientes não souberam informar as medicações as quais faz isso, sendo necessário o auxílio do familiar ou cuidador. A classe de medicamentos mais citada pelos pacientes foram: anti-hipertensivos (41,6%); hipoglicemiantes orais (10,8%); diuréticos (8%); antilipêmicos (6,1%) antiulcerogênicos (5,2%). O produto final do estudo consistiu-se em uma cartilha educativa para pacientes diabéticos e/ou hipertensos e o uso da fitoterapia na atenção básica. Conclusão: O estudo permitiu a elaboração de cartilha educativa, voltada para reconciliação medicamentosa para hipertensos e diabéticos, independente do grau de escolaridade.

В статті висвітлено результат вирощування різних планових порід і їх помісей при середньому рівні годівлі в регіоні Покуття. За результатами досліджень встановлено, що споживання сухої речовини на 100 кг живої маси в 6-місячному віці цей показник був 2,64 кг у чистопородних симентальських м’ясних бугайців, 2,72 – у помісей з ½ крові симентальської породи ¼ української червоно-рябої х ¾ симентальської м’ясної, 3,29 – ¾ крові симентальської м’ясної породи, чорно-ряба 2,99 та в українській червоно-рябій 2,78 і в 12- міс. відповідно 2,61, 2,82, 2,85 та 2,95. Установлено, що продуктивність піддослідних бугайців слід відмітити, що найвищу живу масу при народженні мав чистопородний симентальський м’ясний молодняк – 34,4 кг, що на 9,9% більше від тварин з долею ¾ крові симентальської м’ясної породи і на 6,1% – від ровесників, але різниця між групами була невірогідною. За перших три місяці від 7 до 9 місячного віку добові прирости молодняку в першій групи складали 948 г, другої – на 14,9%, третьої – на 5,4 та четвертої на 3,2%% були меншими при вірогідній різниці з першою групою дослідною.

Se estudiaron los rendimientos de producción del camarón Litopenaeus vannamei en estanques del Golfo de Nicoya, Costa Rica, para evaluar el efecto de las enfermedades diagnosticadas durante el fenómeno de El Niño 2015. Se utilizaron dos sistemas de cultivo: tres ciclos cortos (CC) al año en fincas con baja incidencia de enfermedades y dos ciclos largos (CL) al año en las fincas más afectadas con episodios de altas mortalidades. La sobrevivencia fue menor en aquellas con 2 CL (35.3 ± 3.2%) con respecto a las de 3 CC (63.1 ± 3.2%). Se registró una relación inversa entre el peso promedio alcanzado a la cosecha y la densidad final de cultivo (20.3 ± 0.8 g en 2 CL y 15.2 ± 1.6 g en 3 CC) y una compensación en el crecimiento (1.29 ± 0.12 y 1.08 ± 0.10 g/semana en 2 CL y 3 CC, respectivamente). La producción final fue directamente proporcional a la sobrevivencia con un promedio de 717 ± 8 kg/ha en 2 CL y de 941 ± 53 kg/ha en 3 CC. La productividad se redujo prácticamente a la mitad en 2 CL (1434 kg/ha*año) con respecto a 3 CC (2823 kg/ ha*año). No se encontró un beneficio en la productividad al mantener los cultivos para lograr tallas más grandes con los sobrevivientes luego de eventos de mortalidad severas.

The outcomes and characteristics of acute coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection in patients with tuberculosis (TB) represent an evolving area of literature. This retrospective cohort study (March 2020–January 2021) within a large United States health system evaluated clinical and demographic characteristics, illness severity, complications, and mortality associated with acute COVID-19 infection in patients with TB (n = 31) compared to a matched (1:3) COVID-19 cohort without TB (n = 93). In the COVID-19 + TB cohort, TB was active in 32% and latent in 65% of patients, most patients (55%) had pulmonary TB, and 68% had previously undergone treatment for their TB. Patients with COVID-19 + TB infection had higher rates of hospitalization (45% vs. 36%, p = 0.34), intensive care unit (ICU) stay (16% vs. 8%, p = 0.16), and need for mechanical ventilation (13% vs. 3% p = 0.06). Discordant with those higher rates of markers typically denoting more severe illness, TB patients with acute COVID-19 did not have longer length-of-stay (5.0 vs. 6.1 days, p = 0.97), in-hospital mortality (3.2% vs. 3.2%, p = 1.00), or 30-day mortality (6.5% vs. 4.3%, p = 0.63). This study, while having limitations for extrapolation, cautions the notion that patients with COVID-19 and TB infers worse outcomes and adds to the growing body of literature on the interaction between these two infections.

Maddox Dairy, located in Riverdale, CA, USA, is a Holstein herd that milks 3500 cows with a 305-day mature-equivalent milk production of 12 800 kg, and they have been producing high genetic animals by embryo transfer (ET) since the early 1980s. Invivo-derived embryos from Holstein donors were transferred fresh (grade 1 or 2) or frozen (grade 1), at morula (4), early blastocyst (5), or blastocyst (6) stage, to virgin heifers (VH, natural oestrus, 13-15 months old) or lactating cows (LC, Presynch-Ovsynch, 86 days in milk, first or second lactation) 6 to 9 days after oestrus. Pregnancy diagnosis was done by transrectal ultrasonography at 32-46 days in VH and by the IDEXX PAG test at 30 days in LC. June, July, August, September, and October were called critical months (first service AI conception rate drops below 44%) and compared with the other months. The data from 32 503 ETs between January 2008 and December 2018 are summarised on Table 1. Pregnancy rates (PR) are lower for LC recipients than for VH. Embryo transfers performed 7 or 8 days after oestrus had higher PR in both types of recipients and embryos, but Day 6 and 9 oestrus are also used with fair results. The season does not seem to affect PR. There is not enough difference in the combination of stage and days from oestrus for invivo-derived embryos. These numbers do not belong to a planned experiment. Several management changes during the years were made, which make it very difficult to apply statistical methods to analyse the data correctly. They are used as a tool to make decisions in an attempt to improve future results.
