Résumé :
ABSTRACTThree randomized-block experiments involving 87 British Friesian, 18 Simmental × Friesian and 18 Hereford × Friesian, artificially reared calves (mean initial live weight 47 kg and age 9 days), were carried out to examine the effects of the quantity of milk substitute consumed on the lifetime performance of beef cattle. The three treatments were (1) 400 g milk powder per head daily, weaned at 42 days of age (2) ad libitum intake of milk powder, weaned at 42 days and (3) ad libitum intake of milk powder, weaned at 60 days. All calves were individually penned and fed until after weaning; those on treatment 1 were bucket fed twice daily, while those on treatments 2 and 3 sucked the milk from 25·1 containers through artificial teats. They were offered a pelleted, barley/soya-bean meal concentrate (197 g crude protein per kg dry matter (DM)) ad libitum from purchase until intake reached a maximum of 2·7 kg per head daily, and well preserved grass silage ad libitum from 6 weeks of age. Three commercial, skimmed milk-based, acidified milk substitutes (242 and 187 g crude protein and oil per kg respectively) were used. Intakes of milk substitute, concentrate DM and silage DM per calf to 12 weeks of age for treatments 1 to 3 respectively were as follows: 13·0, 39·7 and 54·8 (s.e. 1·67) kg; 88, 73 and 58 (s.e. 1·5) kg and 9·4, 10·6 and 11·2 (s.e. 0·23) kg. Live-weight gains to 12 weeks of age and carcass weights adjusted to 19 months of age were 0·71, 0·82 and 0·84 (s.e. 0·026) kg/day and 335, 340 and 341 (s.e. 3·8) kg. It is concluded that increasing the input of milk substitute above 400 g per head daily until 6 weeks of age produced only a small and uneconomic increase in the lifetime performance of beef cattle.

Résumé :
Introduction: With the increase of childhood obesity, early intervention in nutrition education becomes necessary. Therefore, during the school period, the school becomes the best place for implementation of a nutritional education program. Objective: The current study was carried out in a public and in a private school, with the objective of evaluating and comparing the results of the "Nutriamigos®" Program on food and nutrition knowledge of children with different socioeconomic levels, sex, age and Body Mass Index (BMI). Method: Comparative longitudinal study, before and after educational intervention. To evaluate the intervention, a public (school 1) and a private school (school 2) were selected. This was a random, convenience sample comparing students from different social and economic levels, consisting of 242 (school 1) and 99 children (school 2), respectively, totaling 341 children, from 6 to 10 years of age. The Body Mass Index was used to measure nutritional status. Knowledge about food and nutrition was evaluated through a questionnaire, applied before and after intervention. The nutritional intervention consisted of 12 classes of 50 minutes each. Results: The improvement in knowledge on food and nutrition between the pre and post intervention stages was statistically significant. Conclusion: The "Nutriamigos®" Program reached its goal, demonstrating that it is effective in public and private schools and should not be differentiated for boys or girls, or for children with normal or excessive weight.

Résumé :
Grains account for a large proportion of the diet of rural residents in Tibet. The lack of selenium (Se) and zinc (Zn) threatens the population’s nutrition and health. However, the intakes of selenium and zinc in grains remains unclear. To clarify the nutritional status of selenium and zinc consumed from staple grains of residents along the Yarlung Zangbo River in Tibet, 341 grain samples and 242 urine samples were collected, and 244 food frequency questionnaires were completed along the Yarlung Zangbo River in 2020–2021. The results showed that the selenium concentrations of 88.5% of self-produced tsampa and 80.8% of self-produced flour were lower than the grain selenium threshold (<25 μg·kg−1). The intake of selenium and zinc from staple grains (tsampa, flour, and rice) contributed 15.0% and 43.5% to the recommended nutrient intake (RNI) on average, respectively. A geographical detector model analyzed factors affecting urinary selenium and zinc levels. Selenium and zinc intakes in rice and flour, and dietary diversity score (DDS) were the main factors affecting urinary selenium and zinc (p < 0.01). Their interaction effects on urinary selenium and zinc were greater than those of a single factor. The staple grains of rural residents along the Yarlung Zangbo River were in a state of selenium deficiency. The zinc content of the staple grain purchased was lower than that of the main grain produced by rural residents. Changing the grain consumption pattern and adjusting the proportion of exogenous grains can improve selenium and zinc nutrition in residents.

Résumé :
This applied research was conducted by employing both quantitative and qualitative innovative research methods. This research investigates the satellite data of four spectral bands sent from the Small Multi-Mission Satellite (SMMS). Each band was analyzed to create color composition indices of the western areas of Thailand. Band 1 had a wavelength between 0.43 and 0.52 micrometers, Band 2 between 0.52 and 0.60 micrometers, Band 3 between 0.63 and 0.69 micrometers, and Band 4 between 0.76 and 0.90 micrometers. Three layers of satellite data were overlaid in non-repeating arrangements. Bands showing grayscale were substituted by three additive primary colors of blue, green, and red. The arrangements were permutated into 24 indices: 123, 124, 132, 134, 142, 143, 213, 214, 231, 234, 241, 243, 312, 314, 321, 324, 341, 342, 412, 413, 421, 423, 431, and 432. The data of color composition indices were then analyzed to create the land-use indices. The visual interpretation of the three levels of land-use classification were used in this procedure. The result was a land-use classification with 15 indices: City, Commercial, and Services; Airport; Golf Course; Paddy Field; Field Crop; Perennial; Aquacultural Land; Shrimp Farm; Evergreen Forest; Deciduous Forest; Mangrove Forest; Marine; River; Canal; Reservoir; and Road.

Résumé :
Abstract PURPOSE: To elucidate clinical features of NHL subtyped with WHO classification, and to evaluate the prognostic impact of WHO classification on aggressive lymphoma treated in an RCT. METHODS: JCOG9002 was an RCT comparing two multidrug combination chemotherapy regimens, LSG9 and mLSG4 (Int J Hematol 80:341, 2004). Major eligibility criteria were; previously untreated patients with intermediate- or high-grade NHL on WF (ATL, LbL and CTCL were excluded); CS I to IV except CS I in GI, thyroid, orbit, or Waldeyer; age 15–69. Tissue specimens were centrally reviewed by six hematopathologists and classified according to WHO classification of lymphoid tumors. Overall survival (OAS) and complete response rate (%CR) of each WHO category were analyzed. Multivariate analyses of prognostic factors influencing OAS were conducted. RESULTS: A total of 447 patients were registered between 1991 and 1995, and the central pathological review was conducted on 404 patients. Characteristics of the 404 pts include median (range) age 56 (18–69) years; male/female 63/37%, CS I+II/III+IV 31/69%; LDH N/>N 51/49%; PS 0+1/2–4 78/22%; No. of extranodal sites 0–1/1< 77/23%; IPI L/LI/HI/H 40/27/20/12%. Major clinical features, OAS and %CR of major types according to WHO classification are summarized in Table 1. Twelve patients with FL (G1+2) were ineligible in this study but included. Clinical features, response to treatment and prognosis of each subtypes showed distinct patterns. Besides, we found that PTCL-U and NK/T-cell lymphoma showed lower CR rate and poorer OAS, and these features were quite different from other PTCL such as AILT or ALCL. Clinical features in other subtypes were similar to previous reports (Blood89: 3909, 1997; J Clin Oncol16: 2780, 1998). Cox regression analysis with IPI and WHO classification in 366 pts without missing value revealed that PTCL-U and NK/T-cell lymphoma were significant prognostic factors independent from IPI. Hazard ratios of these subgroups vs IPI low risk DLBCL group are 2.66 (95% confidence interval: 1.58–4.48) and 3.21 (1.40–7.37). CONCLUSIONS: Patients with aggressive lymphoma subtyped according to the WHO classification who were treated in an RCT showed distinctive clinical features. PTCL-U and NK/T-cell lymphoma showed a significantly poor prognosis independent from IPI, warranting further investigations focusing on these two subtypes. Résumé :
SUMMARYA study of growth and venison production from weaner red deer grazing pure tetraploid red clover (RC) or conventional perennial ryegrass/white clover (PRG) pasture was conducted in 1990, with the objective of attaining a minimum slaughter liveweight of 92 kg (50 kg carcass) by 12 months of age in the stags. Ten weaner red deer stags and ten weaner red deer hinds were randomly selected and rotationally grazed on either RC or PRG forage. In autumn and spring, forage allowances were 7 kgDM/hd/day and 8 kgDM/hd/day respectively. In winter, the animals from both groups were grazed together on PRG pasture, at a residual dry matter (DM) of 1100 kgDM/ha. Total nitrogen (N) concentration was higher in RC on offer than in PRG on offer (autumn 3·4 v. 3·1 %DM; spring 3·8 v. 3·1 %DM), whilst organic matter digestibility (OMD; autumn 80·5 v. 76·5%; spring 82·1 v. 80·3%) was also higher for RC on offer. Diet selected showed similar differences in total N concentration, but there were negligible differences between forages in OMD.Liveweight gains of RC and PRG stags were respectively 263 v. 192 g/day, 101 v. 106 g/day and 354 v. 341 g/day during autumn, winter and spring, with the corresponding values for hinds being 198. 173 g/day, 52 v. 53 g/day and 242 v. 218 g/day. At one year of age, stags grazing RC were 7 kg heavier and hinds 3 kg heavier than animals grazing PRG pasture. Animals grazing RC forage had higher voluntary feed intake (VFI) in both autumn (P < 0·10) and spring (P < 0·001), than animals grazing PRG pasture. All stags grazing RC forage reached the minimum slaughter liveweight by one year of age, compared to 75% of those grazing PRG pasture. At slaughter, stags that had grazed RC produced heavier carcass weights (59·9 v. 54·5 kg, P < 0·01), had higher carcass dressing percentage (55·3 v. 53·2 %; P < 0·01), and tended to have slightly greater carcass subcutaneous fat depth than stags grazing PRG pasture, but this effect disappeared when the data were corrected to equal carcass weight. All stags grazing RC produced velvet antler, relative to 75% of those grazing PRG; in stags producing harvestable velvet antler, there was no difference in antler weight between those grazing RC and PRG. It is concluded that RC offers potential as a special-purpose forage for the growth of weaner red deer.

Résumé :
The absorption spectra of H2S from 2000 to 11 147 cm−1 have been obtained with spectral resolutions of 0.006, 0.012, and 0.021 cm−1 using the Fourier transform spectrometer at Kitt Peak National Observatory. The transitions of 21 bands have been assigned for the first time and 9 others reanalyzed so that accurate energy levels, band origins, and rotational parameters could be determined. The analysis of these data revealed some remarkable features in the energy spectrum, e.g., fourfold clustering of rotational levels belonging to the symmetric and asymmetric components of local mode manifolds at a high degree of stretching excitation. This paper reports fitted vibrational parameters and predicted band origins of H232S up to 12 735 cm−1. It also presents the degenerate rotational constants and upper state energies of (301)–(202) and (311)–(212) at 1 μm as illustrations of clustering in the local mode limit.

ABSTRACTThis study aimed to analyze the concern with body image, common mental disorders and depression. An analytical and exploratory cross-sectional study was carried out with 117 undergraduate students at an institution in the countryside of Bahia. The prevalence of the variables studied was estimated, associations were tested using the chi-square and binary logistic regression was used to adjust the variables. Suicidal ideation had a high prevalence (18.8%) in comparison to the exaggerated concern with self-image (13.4%). The prevalence of Major Depression and CMD were 39.3% and 54.7%, respectively. There was a significant association with CMD for: female gender (PR = 2.9; 1.5 - 5.4), performing physical activity less than twice a week (PR = 1.6; 1.1 - 2.3), being unemployed (PR = 1.5; 1.1 - 2.2). For major depression, there was significance for: performing physical activity less than twice a week (PR = 1.9; 1.2 - 3.1), being unemployed (PR = 1.9; 1.2 - 3, 1), having suicidal ideas (PR = 2.1; 1.4 - 3.1) and being overly concerned with self-image (PR = 2.2; 1.5 - 3.3), even when adjusted for age and gender (p-value = 0.015).

Résumé :
Neurohumoral, cardiovascular, and respiratory parameters were evaluated during sustained submaximal exercise (3.2 km/h, 15 degrees elevation) in normal adult mongrel dogs. At the level of activity achieved (fivefold elevation of total body O2 consumption and threefold elevation of cardiac output), significant (P less than 0.05) increases in plasma norepinephrine and epinephrine concentration (from 150 +/- 23 to 341 +/- 35 and from 127 +/- 27 to 222 +/- 31 pg/ml, respectively) were present, as well as smaller but significant increases in plasma renin activity and plasma aldosterone concentration (from 2.2 +/- 0.3 to 3.1 +/- 0.6 ng X ml-1 X h-1 and from 98 +/- 8 to 130 +/- 6 pg/ml, respectively). Plasma arginine vasopressin increased variably and insignificantly. The cardiovascular response (heart rate, systemic arterial and pulmonary arterial pressures, left ventricular filling pressure, and calculated total peripheral and pulmonary arteriolar resistance) closely paralleled that of human subjects. Increased hemoglobin concentration was induced by exercise in the dogs. The ventilatory response of the animals was characterized by respiratory alkalosis. These data suggest similarities between canine and human subjects in norepinephrine, plasma renin activity, and plasma aldosterone responses to submaximal exercise. Apparent species differences during submaximal exertion include greater alterations of plasma epinephrine concentration and a respiratory alkalosis in dogs.

Résumé :
AbstractAllogeneic stem cell transplantation was successfully performed in 1968, and its use has grown significantly over the past five decades with the total number now exceeding 1.5 million patients (Niederwieser et al. Haematologica. 107:1045–1053, 2022). HSCT is a curative treatment for many haematological cancers and other disorders. Almost 40,000 HSCT procedures are performed Europe-wide per annum (Passweg et al. Bone Marrow Transplant. 51(6):786–92, 2016), and the number of transplant recipients achieving ‘long-term survival’ and with late effects directly related to their treatment (Majhail et al. Hematol Oncol Stem Cell Ther 5(1):1–30, 2012) is increasing (Penack et al. Blood Adv 4:6283–6290, 2020). This growth in survivors is the result of improvements in transplant knowledge and expertise, refinements to conditioning regimes, developments in supportive care and increased numbers of procedures due to broadening transplant indications. The most common cause of death after transplant is relapsed disease. Yet, even without disease relapse, long-term survival is complex for many as other causes of mortality such as graft versus host disease (GvHD), infection, second malignancy, respiratory disease and cardiovascular disease (CVD) (Savani et al. Blood. 117:3002–9, 2011) prove difficult to address.Recovery post-HSCT is challenging, lasting several months to years. These individuals are susceptible to the development of post-treatment physical and psychological sequelae years to decades after completion of treatment leading to a reduced life expectancy with greater morbidity when compared to an age-adjusted population (Socié et al. N Engl J Med 341:14–21, 1999). Survivors with late effects experience significantly poorer physical and mental health, report more unmet needs for care and have significantly greater use of health services compared with survivors without late effects (Treanor et al. Psychooncology 22(11):2428–2435, 2013).Furthermore, as the number of survivors continues to grow, their long-term health problems and subsequent needs demand increasing resource and attention from late effects services. These services must remain agile and responsive, develop capacity to provide continuing expertise and oversight and collaborate with the other specialist services for input when needed. The unpredictable, complex and multifactorial nature of these long-term and late effects in HSCT survivors means that patients require regular life-long assessment guided by rigorous protocols. However, it is important to remember that even using standardised protocols, these should be different for adults and children and the resulting care must be tailored to the needs of the individual. And finally, further consideration is needed for the growing number of young people and adult survivors in long-term follow-up who have been treated in childhood and transitioned into adult long-term follow-up care.

Since the early 1980s, aldol condensations involving boron enolates have gain great importance in asymmetric synthesis, particularly the synthesis of natural products with adjacent stereogenic centers bearing hydroxyl and methyl groups. (Z)-Boron enolates tend to give a high diastereoslectivity preference for the syn-stereochemistry while (E)-boron enolates favor the anti-stereochemistry. Because the B-O and B-C bonds are shorter than other metals with oxygen and carbon, the six membered Zimmerman–Traxler transition state in the aldol condensation tends to be more compact which accentuates steric interactions, thus leading to higher diastereoselectivity. When this feature is coupled with a boron enolate bearing a chiral auxillary, high enantioselectivity is achieved. Boron enolates are generated from a ketone and boron triflate in the presence of an organic base such as triethylamine. Reviews: (a) Abiko, A. Acc. Chem. Res. 2004, 37, 387-395. (b) Cowden, C. J. Résumé :
Abstract Figure 2.1 is a magic square. It is like a crossword puzzle filled with numbersinstead of letters. Thisisa 4×4 square, but like a crossword puzzle it can be any size from 3 × 3 and up. What makes it magic is that when you add the numbers in any line across or any column down, you get the same sum, namely, 34. In this case, the sum of each of the diagonals(16, 10, 7, 1) and (4, 6, 11, 13) isalso 34, which makes it a special or perfect magic square. According to tradition, the numbers begin with 1 and fill the little squares, or cells, so a 4 × 4 square contains all the numbers, without repetition, from 1 to 16. It may be surprising, but there are 880 different arrangements each row adds up to give the same number for that square, so both squares are magic squares. The square in Figure 2.2 differs from the Sudoku (Figure 2.3), which does not complete the number sequence of 1 to 81 (92 = 81) as in Figure 2.2. The Sudoku is divided into three parts and the numbers in each row and column include 1 to 9, also in the nine 3 × 3 subsquares. Whereas in a magic square (Figure 2.2) no number may be repeated, in the Sudoku (Figure 2.3) numbersare repeated in each row and column but may not be repeated within individual rows or columns.

Control of hemostatic parameters of patients undergoing surgery usually involves only determination of parameters of the coagulation cascade, but not measurement of primary hemostasis. This has mainly methodological reasons. Recently a model of primary hemostasis has been introduced (Kratzer & Bom, Haemostasis 15:357; 1985) now produced under the name “ Thrombostat 4000” (VDG von der Goltz, 8221 Seeon, West Germany). This device measures computerized within minutes “ in vitro” bleeding parameters (vBP) like bleeding volume (V,ul), time (T,sec) and the viscosity depending initial flow (IF,ul/min) in a small sample (0.5-lml) of whole anticoagulated blood (Na citrate 1 to 10). The clinical relevance of the vBP was tested in patients undergoing major surgery. Results : Case 1: A 78 years old woman with osteomyelosarcoma, heavy bleeding and normal coagulation parametrs showed strongly pathological vBP: (V > 800, T > 300, IF 184); control values: (V = 177, T = 105, IF = 145); An improvement of beeding and shortening of vBP was observed after infusion of platelet concentrate: (V = 328, T = 245, IF = 147).Case 2: A 60 years old man with adenocarcinoma undergoing liver transplantation, before operation (OP) vBP: (V = 224, T = 114, IF = 182); displayed a strong increase during OP: (V > 800, T = 360, IF = 277; decreasing values after Oft (V = 348, T = 146, IF = 254); 1. day after OP: (V = 250, T = 127, IF = 221); 13 day after OP normal vBft (V = 160, T = 111, IF 182).Case 3: A 35 years old man with III. grade burnings of the skin (35%) and a massive platelet function defect: (V > 800, T > 180, IF = 328); improvement after infusion of platelet concentrate: (V = 393, T = 164, IF = 239); further improvement some hours later: (V = 240, T = 120, IF = 213); and normalizing of parameters at the 1. day: (V = 197, T = 126, IF = 186) and the 5. day after OP: (V = 130, T = 122, IF = 142).It is interesting to note that patients with heavy burnings reguarly displayed reduced vBP: (V = 120, T = 70, IF = 127) if measured very early after the accident. The new method seems to be a valuable instrument to judge platelet functions.

Résumé :
Pulsed laser etching of copper using chlorine has been demonstrated and investigated (1-3). Chlorine, however, strongly corrodes copper even in the absence of light. To avoid this problem, we have examined UV photoetching of copper using the vapor of two room temperature liquids, CF2Br2 and CCl4. Both species are inert towards copper in the dark, but will undergo gas-phase photolysis with near unit quantum efficiency to produce Br or Cl atoms. At 248 nm, the gas-phase absorption of CF2Br2 is some 3 orders larger than CCl4 Yet surprisingly, the 248 nm etch rate is similar for both over the range 1-10 torr. At 351 nm, where the gas-phase absorption for both species becomes vanishingly small, CCI4 is observed to etch copper with the same rate as at 248 nm, while CF2Br2 does not cause etching. These results suggest that gas-phase photolysis of CF2Br2, but not CCI4, is important in initiating copper etching.

Résumé :
Abstract: Introduction. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is necessary to look for new approaches to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases in the working population. Study objective. To study the hygienic influence of harmful and dangerous factors of the working environment and the severity of the labor process on the structure of the general dermatological morbidity in railway transport workers who ensure the safety of train traffic in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and methods. The complex of harmful production factors affecting railway transport workers was studied according to the sanitary and hygienic characteristics of the working conditions of employees of the Altai region of the West Siberian Railway of JSC "Russian Railways". The structure of the general dermatological morbidity was studied according to the statistical coupons of outpatient patients who applied to a dermatovenerologist in the CHUZ " CB "Russian Railways-Medicine" Barnaul for the period 2019-2020. Results. The conducted complex of hygienic, epidemiological and statistical studies showed that the combined impact of chemical, meteorological, physical, biological harmful production factors and the severity of the labor process (class 3.1-3.5) in railway transport workers who ensure the safety of train traffic leads to the development of such production-related skin diseases as contact dermatitis and psoriasis. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, skin infections (62.8%) predominate over non-infectious dermatoses in the structure of the total dermatological morbidity. The share of primary morbidity increased to 90.8%. The first rank is occupied by pyoderma (47.5%), the second – allergodermatoses (20.0%), the third – mycoses (11.6%). Conclusion. The COVID-19 pandemic leads to changes in the epidemiological and clinical features of dermatoses in the working population, which must be taken into account in their prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Résumé :
Experimental flow boiling heat transfer results are presented for horizontal 1.0 and 2.2 mm I.D. (internal diameter) stainless steel tubes for tests with R1234ze, a new refrigerant developed as a substitute for R134a with a much lower GWP (Global Warming Potential). These two tube diameters were chosen due the necessity to a better investigation the macro to microchannel transition boundary. The experimental campaign includes mass velocities ranging from 50 to 1500 kg m−2s−1, heat fluxes from 10 to 300 kW m−2, exit saturation temperatures of 25, 31 and 35 °C, vapor qualities from 0.05 to 0.99 and heated lengths of 180 mm and 361 mm. Flow pattern characterization was performed using high-speed videos. Data for heat transfer coefficients, critical heat fluxes and flow pattern transitions were obtained. R1234ze demonstrated similar thermal performance to R134a data when running at similar conditions. For critical heat flux the correlation of Katto and Ohno (1984) best predicted the database with a mean absolute error of 6.3%. For the heat transfer coefficients, the Thome et al. (2004) three-zone model predicted the data for slug flow with 15.9% and Saitoh et al. (2007) predicted data for other flow regimes with mean absolute error of 19.4%.

This report describes the demonstration of technologies and procedures developed during April 2002 and May 2004 under the Joint Rapid Airfield Construction (JRAC) Program. The demonstration took place at Sicily Landing Zone (LZ) at Fort Bragg, NC, in July of 2004. The objective of the exercise was to demonstrate the procedures and technologies developed under the JRAC Program by rapidly building two parking aprons capable of supporting C-130 transport aircraft taxiing and parking operations. The exercise was conducted under continuous 24-hr operations to simulate a real-world rapid construction environment. Apron 1 (north apron) was constructed using two technologies, one-half being ACE™ Matting and the other half being a cement-polymer stabilized soil surface. Apron 2 (south apron) was constructed solely of a fiber-cement-stabilized soil system. Both aprons were treated with a polymer emulsion surface application to form a sealed surface against abrasion and water infiltration. The entire construction of both aprons required 76 hr, with Apron 1 finished in 48 hr. The construction of Apron 1 was validated by operation of a C-130 aircraft approximately 31 hr after completion with success and high praises from the aircraft flight crew on the stability and surface of the apron, as well as its dust-abating characteristics.

Dorman, Eleanor, Zara Markovic-Obiago, Julie Phillips, Richard Szydlo et Darren K. Patten. Wellbeing in UK Frontline Healthcare Workers During Peaks One and Three of the COVID-19 Pandemic : A Retrospective Cross-Sectional Analysis. Science Repository, décembre 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.31487/j.ejgm.2022.01.01.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Background: COVID-19 had a huge impact on the wellbeing of healthcare workers (HCWs). This is well documented during the first peak of the pandemic. With cases in the UK rising for a third peak, hospitalisations and deaths surpassing the first, there is very little known about the mental health of HCWs during this time. Methods: Using a questionnaire, data was collected from patient-facing staff at Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Trust to quantify and compare the period prevalence of symptoms of depression, anxiety, and PTSD during the first peak (P1: March-May 2020) and third peak (P3: December 2020-Feburary 2021) of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as wellbeing service use, demographics of responders and what they found most difficult during the peaks. Results: Of 158 responders, only 22·4% felt they had enough access to wellbeing services during P1 and 21·5% in P3. Of those who used wellbeing services 34·4% found them useful in P1 and 34·6% in P3. 70·3% of responders felt that not enough was done for staff wellbeing. The median anxiety score decreased from P1 (10(range 5-17)) to P3 (8(range 4-16)) p=0·031. Under 30-year-olds’ depression and PTSD scores increased from P1 to P3 (depression: P1 7(1-11), P3 8(3-14), p=0·048, PTSD: P1 4(0-7) peak 3 5(2-9), p=0·037). Several groups showed a decrease in anxiety scores from P1 to P3 including; over 30-year-olds (P1 10(5-17), P3 7(3-15) p=0·002), BME responders (P1 8(3·75-15) P3 6·5(1-12) p=0·006), AHP (P1 14(7-19), P3 11(5-19) p=0·005), ITU workers (P1 15(8-18·25) P3 12(5·75-18·25) p=0·004), and those who were redeployed (P1 8(5-18·25), P3 5(2-14·75), p=0·032). Conclusion: We have observed changes in mental health symptoms within the study population as the peaks of the pandemic continue. With the majority of responders reporting they felt not enough had been done for their wellbeing support - and of those who used the wellbeing services only around 1/3 felt they were useful - we hope that this paper can help inform wellbeing provision and identify groups at higher risk of developing mental health symptoms.

The Northwest Tropical Atlantic Station (NTAS) was established to address the need for accurate air-sea flux estimates and upper ocean measurements in a region with strong sea surface temperature anomalies and the likelihood of significant local air–sea interaction on interannual to decadal timescales. The approach is to maintain a surface mooring outfitted for meteorological and oceanographic measurements at a site near 15°N, 51°W by successive mooring turnarounds. These observations will be used to investigate air–sea interaction processes related to climate variability. This report documents recovery of the NTAS-18 mooring and deployment of the NTAS-19 mooring at the same site. Both moorings used Surlyn foam buoys as the surface element. These buoys were outfitted with two Air–Sea Interaction Meteorology (ASIMET) systems. Each system measures, records, and transmits via Argos satellite the surface meteorological variables necessary to compute air–sea fluxes of heat, moisture and momentum. The upper 160 m of the mooring line were outfitted with oceanographic sensors for the measurement of temperature, salinity and velocity. Deep ocean temperature and salinity are measured at approximately 38 m above the bottom. The mooring turnaround was done on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ship Ronald H. Brown, Cruise RB-20-06, by the Upper Ocean Processes Group of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The cruise took place between 14 October and 1 November 2020. The NTAS-19 mooring was deployed on 22 October, with an anchor position of about 14° 49.48° N, 51° 00.96° W in 4985 m of water. A 31-hour intercomparison period followed, during which satellite telemetry data from the NTAS-19 buoy and the ship’s meteorological sensors were monitored. The NTAS-18 buoy, which had gone adrift on 28 April 2020, was recovered on 20 October near 13° 41.96° N, 58° 38.67° W. This report describes these operations, as well as other work done on the cruise and some of the pre-cruise buoy preparations.
