Résumé :
At its Annual Meeting in April 1995, the Renaissance Society of America will be honoring the career of Paul Oskar Kristeller, whose international reputation as a Renaissance scholar is well known to this audience. We are all in debt to Kristeller for what he would proudly entitle his “contributions.” These include, among innumerable others, studies on Marsilio Ficino and the classical and scholastic origins of humanism, a multi-volumed catalogue of the uncatalogued manuscripts in European collections (more than a life work all by itself), and reminders in the form of essays, articles and lectures of the need to adjust our theories and our inclinations to what used to be called, in a simpler age, facts.

Résumé :
From the outset, the 1905 revolution was a place of conflict of memory revealing the political and social divisions existing in the Polish society. In the interwar period (1918–1939), three “legends” were formed: the left assessed the revolution positively and highlighted the relevance of its experiences, the ruling camp emphasized the independence dimension, and the right strongly criticized the revolution. After 1989 the conflict was renewed. The objective of the right-wing communities and parties influencing the historical policy of the state is to exclude the 1905 revolution from the national tradition and remove its symbols from public space. For the left-wing representatives, who are the minority, the years 1905–1907 are an important collective experience that requires a new interpretation and commemorating.

Résumé :
ABSTRACTTwelve specimens of early Toarcian Mecoptera and Diptera from the vicinity of Wolfsburg were investigated for the present study. The material was found during house building activities in the 1980s at the locality Große Kley in Mörse, an urban district of the city of Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. The specimens were found in calcareous nodules of the Harpoceras falciferum Zone that occur within the Liassic black shales (Posidonia shale). Six specimens of Mecoptera, five belonging to the family Orthophlebiidae and one belonging to the Bittacidae, and six representatives of the following Diptera families were identified: Ptychopteridae, Limoniidae, Anisopodidae and the superfamily Mycetophiloidea. The fossil fauna of Wolfsburg is similar to that of other early Toarcian sites in Germany, described by Handlirsch (1906, 1939), Bode (1905, 1953) and Ansorge (1996) from Braunschweig, Dobbertin and Grimmen. Two new species are described, Mesorhyphusulrichi sp. nov. (Anisopodidae) and Archipleciomima germanica sp. nov. (Mycetophiloidea).

Résumé :
William Butler Yeats (1865-1939), the prominent Irish poet and dramatist was one of the foremost figures of twentieth-century literature. He was a driving force behind the Irish Revival, and together with lady Gregory and Edward Martyn established the Abby Theatre, and served as its chief playwright during its early years. He was awarded the Noble Prize in literature for his always inspired poetry which in a highly artistic form gave expression to the spirit of a whole nation. The paper aims at analyzing the poet's quest for social freedom and poet's right in the state. The King's Threshold was first performed by the Irish National Theatre Society at the Molesworth Hall, in Dublin on 7 October, 1903. It is founded upon a Midieval-Irish story of the demands of the poets at the court of King Guaire at Gort, Co. Galway; it was also influenced by Edwin Ellis's play Sancan the bard (1905) which was published ten years earlier, by Edwin Ellis.

Résumé :
The article explores the problem of periodization of mystical anarchism. The author suggests that most of the disagreements between modern researchers of the creative heritage of the 20th century anarchist-mystics is related to the absence of any historical and philosophical reference point or scheme. The article suggests viewing the whole history of the development of this phenomenon as an evolution of communities of thinkers who were equally close to anarchist and mystical ideas. Three periods are distinguished: 1) 1905–1907; 2) 1917–1930; 3) 1924–1939. In each period, the author analyzes the ideological principles of a particular community of mystical anarchists, their ability to influence the cultural landscape of their era, and their conceptual relationship with their predecessors/successors. The terms “mystical anarchist” and “anarcho-mystic” are used synonymously in this text. Particular attention is paid to the emigrant period in the history of mystical anarchists (the study is based on the analysis of periodicals of the Russian diaspora in the United States).

Résumé :
Nineteen taxa of Dalytyphloplanida Willems et al., 2006 collected from southwestern Andalusia are discussed. Although most taxa were found in freshwater, three are marine, one occurred in brackish water and Protoplanella simplex Reisinger, 1924 was even collected in a dry, limnoterrestrial habitat. Four taxa are new to science. Castrada purgatorialis n. sp., Castrada paradisea n. sp. and Strongylostoma devleeschouweri n. sp., all belong to the Typhloplanidae Graff, 1905. The first two species differ from other species of Castrada Schmidt, 1861 by the presence of a large accessory bursa and the morphology of the copulatory atrium. C. purgatorialis n. sp. has zoochlorellae while these are lacking in C. paradisea n. sp. Strongylostoma devleeschouweri n. sp. is unique because of its coalescing testes and because of the presence of a sphincter around the stalk of the seminal receptacle. Gieysztoria iberica n. sp. belongs to the Dalyelliidae Graff, 1905 and is characterized by the extreme length of the girdle of the stylet. Except for five taxa, all specimens were collected within the boundaries of the Doñana National Park. Most of the taxa could easily be identified to species level except for one taxon of Kytorhynchidae Rieger, 1974 and one species of Phaenocora Ehrenberg, 1836. Four species are new for the Iberian Peninsula. Three of these, Trigonostomum penicillatum (Schmidt, 1857) Micoletzky, 1910, Promesostoma maculosum Ax, 1956 and Gieysztoria macrovariata (Weise, 1942) Ruebush & Hayes, 1939, were already known from other European localities, whereas Parapharyngiella involucrum Willems et al., 2005, a marine species, has previously only been found in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

Résumé :
Based on the analysis of previous research and archival sources, the position of key Ukrainian museum institutions in Lviv on the eve of the occupation of Western Ukraine by the Soviet Union in September 1939, is analyzed. In the region, there were many museum institutions, which preserved and popularized the historical and cultural heritage of the peoples who have inhabited the territory of Halychyna. It was investigated that among the Ukrainian museums the most powerful were the National Museum in Lviv which had been founded in 1905 by the initiative of Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytsky and the Museum of the Shevchenko Scientific Society in Lviv (NTSh Museum). For more than three decades, both institutions have replenished their repositories with respectable ethnographic collections and artifacts. A drastic change in the situation after September 17, 1939, is demonstrated. Soviet occupation authorities conducted a detailed audit of all museums in Lviv and carried out their large-scale reorganization, in particular, of the entire ethnographic collections of the NTSh Museum in Lviv, the Dzieduszycki Museum, the City Ethnographic and Arts and Crafts Museums, and the Lubomyrski Museum. The Lviv State Ethnographic Museum was established based on their ethnographic collections. From now on, all museum institutions in Halychyna had to serve the ideological needs of the totalitarian machine of Soviet propaganda. Due to the analysis of archival material from the State Archives of Lviv Region (DALO), the main directions of the Ethnographic Museum's activity and its gradual ideologizing, which manifested itself in the priority of Bolshevik propaganda, are analyzed. For instance, exhibitions, lectures, and exposition ensembles forming, organized by the Museum during the end of 1939 and the first half of 1941 strictly corresponded to the so-called «Marxist-Leninist» ideology and a «class» approach. All his public activities were controlled by the relevant party-ideological institutions and party officials. After the Nazi occupation of 1941–1944, the Lviv State Ethnographic Museum returned to the Soviet Bolshevik propaganda reality. Thus, it was stated that the events of the autumn of 1939, related to the occupation of Western Ukraine by the Soviet Union and the implementation of Bolshevism, radically changed the museum landscape of Lviv. Most of the museum collections were disbanded by the new Soviet government and new museums were created on their basis – the main task of which from now on was to promote the so-called «Marxist-Leninist» approach. Résumé :
Nomenclatural additions to, and corrections necessitated by the publication of, Borowski and Węgrzynowicz’ (2007) recently published “World Catalogue of [the] Bostrichidae” are presented. The type species of Bostrychopsis Lesne, 1899 is designated under ICZN Art. 70.3 as Bostrychopsis villosula Lesne, 1905, which is the replacement name for the misidentified type species designation by Chûjô (1937) of Bostrychopsis cephalotes sensu Lesne 1899, not Olivier, 1790. Bostrychopsis Lesne, 1905 is removed from synonymy with Apate Fabricius. A neotype is designated for Bostrichus cephalotes Olivier, 1790 and Bostrichus cephalotes is made a junior synonym of Bostrichus cornutus Olivier 1790, removing it from synonymy with Apate congener Gerstäcker 1855, which is again considered a valid name. Dominikia Borowski and Węgrzynowicz, 2007 is synonymized with Bostrychopsis Lesne new synonymy. Lesne’s 1938b nomen nudum was validated as Amintinus Anonymous, 1939: 240 [type species Amintinus tenuis Lesne 1938b, by original designation]. Amintinus Borowski and Węgrzynowicz’ 2007: 16 (not Anonymous, 1939) [type species Amintinus aethiopicus Lesne 1938b, by original designation] is a new synonymy and junior homonym. Borowski and Węgrzynowicz’ 2007 invalid designation of Sinoxylon sericans LeConte as the type species of Dendrobiella Casey is corrected to Sinoxylon asperum LeConte under ICZN Art. 69.2. Neotypes are designated for Ligniperda tenebrans Pallas, 1772 and Apate hamatus Fabricius, 1787, based on male and female respectively of what is now known as Apate tenebrans (Pallas) new synonymy. Apate bicaudatus Say, 1824 is designated a nomen protectum relative to Apate aspericollis Germar, 1824 (nomen oblitum) and Apate serricollis Germar, 1824 (nomen oblitum), and recognized as the species also known as Amphicerus hamatus auctorum (not Fabricius) under the combination Amphicerus bicaudatus (Say). Schistoceros Lesne, 1899 is shown to be an unjustified replacement name for Amphicerus LeConte (not Amphiceras Gray) and therefore an objective synonym with the same type species. Its recognition as the name of a second subgenus of Amphicerus is invalid. Amphicerus is recognized with no valid subgenera. Dermestes muricatus Linnaeus, 1767 is declared a nomen oblitum relative to its synonym Bostrichus sexdentatus Olivier, 1790, which is likewise declared a nomen protectum, and recognized as Sinoxylon sexdentatum (Olivier). A neotype is designated for Dermestes muricatus Linnaeus, 1767, based on a specimen of what is now known as Sinoxylon sexdentatum (Olivier). Several additional minor corrections regarding first synonymization, type species designations, and correct type repositories are identified.

Résumé :
Abstract Importance First-rank symptoms (FRS), proposed by Kurt Schneider in 1939, subsequently became influential in schizophrenia diagnosis. We know little of their prehistory. How often were FRS described before 1939 and in which countries and time periods? Which FRS was most frequently noted? Observations Forty psychiatric texts from 37 authors, published 1810–1932, were identified that described FRS. In a systematic subsample, half of the textbooks examined contained such descriptions with little differences between countries or over time. Somatic passivity was most commonly noted, followed by thought insertion, thought withdrawal, and made actions. This pattern resembled that reported in recent studies of schizophrenia. A novel term—delusions of unseen agency—was seen in psychiatric texts and then found, from 1842 to 1905, in a range of official reports, and psychiatric, medical, and general audience publications. The Early Heidelberg School (Gruhle, Mayer-Gross, Beringer) first systematically described “self-disturbances” (Ichstörungen), many of which Schneider incorporated into FRS. Conclusions and Relevance From the beginning of Western descriptive psychopathology in the early 19th century, symptoms have been observed later described as first-rank by Schneider. A term “delusion of unseen agency”—closely related to Schneider’s first-rank concept—was popular in the second half of the 19th century and described in publications as prominent as the Encyclopedia Britannica and New England Journal of Medicine. The descriptions of these specific symptoms, with substantial continuity, over more than 2 centuries and many countries, suggest that an understanding of their etiology would teach us something foundational about the psychotic illness.

Résumé :
In this article, we explore the concept of simultaneity in the scientific enterprise, defined herein as the near-coincident discovery of significant advances in the development of our scientific understanding of the world. We do this by examining two case studies of such coincident or near-coincident discoveries: the development of the so-called Lorentz transformation by H.A. Lorentz (1904) and A. Einstein (1905); and the Aharonov-Bohm effect discovered independently in chronological order by Franz(1939), Ehrenberg and Siday (1949) and Aharonov and Bohm (1959). It is now generally acknowledged that the Lorentz transformations were independently developed by both Lorentz and Einstein as they worked on different approaches to solve a similar problem – i.e., the preservation of the form of Maxwell's equations in coordinate systems moving relative to one another, while the relationship between the Ehrenberg-Siday and Aharonov-Bohm works is still controversial. In our view, these independent discoveries allow some speculation about the nature of human discovery and understanding of scientific truths as they progress through time.

Résumé :
In the years before 1939, the functionaries of Afrique Occidentale Française, or AOF, as France's West African possessions were known, consistently failed to introduce effective legislative controls upon Eastern Mediterranean migration under their purview. This was not for lack of trying; from 1905 onwards, administrators both in the territorial government of Guinea and in the Government-General of the Federation in Dakar repeatedly attempted to close their gates to these interlopers of empire, most of them from present-day Lebanon, who first began to venture into West Africa in the last years of the nineteenth century. By the late 1930s, some six thousand citizens of the Mandatory states of Lebanon and Syria resided across AOF. Most worked as produce brokers, shopkeepers, and traders, buying up groundnuts, palm oil, or kola nuts from African producers, and supplying them in turn with consumer goods such as textiles and clothes, processed foodstuffs, alcohol, and matches. Despite their attempts to channel and stem this flow of men and women, AOF administrators proved unable to impose effective legislative checks upon their movements.

Résumé :
Artykuł zawiera opatrzoną wstępem i komentarzami edycję dwunastu listów Emila Młynarskiego pisanych do żony Anny w Lozannie w okresie 1905–06. Tęsknota do niej walczy o lepsze z myślami o powrocie do zawodu.

The purpose of the research is analyzing the seasonal dynamics for the number and the hemipopulation structure of the trematode Gynaecotyla adunca larvae in shrimps of the genus Palaemon Weber, 1795 and determining the dependence of their infection with the metacercariae G. adunca on the host size and the season of the year in the water area of Sevastopol.Materials and methods. Samples of aquatic organisms were collected monthly during 2012 in two different biotopes, the estuary of the Chernaya River and the Kazachya Bay. We examined a total of 2,445 specimens of the Hydrobia acuta mollusk, 200 specimens of the Palaemon elegans shrimp in the estuary of the Chernaya River, and 2,248 specimens of the H. acuta mollusks and 64 specimens of P. adsepsus in the water area of Kazachya Bay. Shrimps were caught with a 1 × 0.4 m seine with a 6–8 mm mesh. The mollusks were collected with a hand grab sampler with a sampling area of 0.04 m2. The mollusks and shrimps were classified in accordance with the World Register of Marine Species. All mollusk and shrimp tissues were examined by the compression method under an MBS-10 binocular microscope. Descriptive statistics was calculated using Statistica 6 for Windows. Results and discussion. We have found that the parthenita G. adunca is characterized by asynchronous emergence of secondary sporocyst that contain cercariae, while the metacercariae G. adunca hemipopulation is characterized by an overdispersed distribution, which indirectly indicates a low density of the host population and its constant migration. We analyzed seasonal dynamics of the found microfallid larvae population. The metacercariae G. adunca are characterized by one peak of infection with trematodes in summer.

This article is a short scientific and biographical sketch about petr petrovich shirshov (12/25/1905, Dnepropetrovsk – 02/17/1953, Moscow) – hydrologist, polar explorer, Doctor of Geographical Sciences (1937), Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1939), Hero of the Soviet Union (1938 ), the first director of the institute of oceanology of the russian academy of sciences (1946 – early 1953). The Institute bears the name of P.P. Shirshov. Of course, in the year of the anniversary, all of us – employees of the Institute of Oceanology – remember with gratitude and respect the name of Petr Petrovich – the largest scientist-researcher, hydrobiologist, organizer of science and an amazing, deep, very courageous, gifted person with a bright and difficult fate. The article presented below is especially valuable because it pays close attention to the work of P.P. Shirshov as a hydrobiologist. His contribution to history as the organizer of the Institute of Oceanology or a polar explorer is widely sanctified in various publications, but his scientific hydrobiological research is much less known, meanwhile it was this direction that interested Petr Shirshov as a scientist more than anything else.

Résumé :
ABSTRACTWhilst quantitive and ‘positivist’ modes of comparative social policy can reveal significant structural factors involved in the making of welfare states, they too often ignore the role of human agency, intention and political processes. A critical-historical comparative case study of the introduction of ‘child endowment’ and of ‘family allowances’ respectively in Australia (1941) and in Canada (1944) reminds us of the interplay between structural constraints and human agency in the history of welfare states. Detailed analysis suggests that institutionalised arrangements in Australia after 1905 to resolve capital-labour conflict via arbitral and wage fixation mechanisms put the question of the adequacy of wages in meeting family needs and with it proposals for child endowment onto the public agenda as early as 1920. In Canada the absence of such mechanisms, and alternative welfare arrangements to deal with family welfare, combined to keep such proposals off the public agenda. After 1939 the development of ‘war economies’ in Australia and Canada created common contradictions for governments, trying to maintain both industrial peace and anti-inflation policies, which the introduction of family allowances in both countries were attempts to resolve. Consideration is also given to a range of political problems and contexts in both countries which this particular policy measure attempted to deal with.

Résumé :
Analysis of morphology, stratigraphic and geographic distribution of the group of nautilid species, mainly from the Westphalian of Western Europe, and the Bashkirian and Moscovian of the Donets Basin (Eastern Ukraine) made it possible to establish a new genus Pseudogzheloceras Dernov, gen. nov. This genus includes tainoceratids with an evolute discoidal conch. The umbilical perforation is present. Cross section of the adult whorls is sub-square or almost rectangular. Surface ornamentation is represented by large transverse ribs on the flanks. Siphuncle is sub-central or is situated between the venter and the centre of the whorl (the position of the siphuncle is not known for the most species). Suture line has ventral, lateral and dorsal lobes; sometimes a lobe or saddle is present on the umbilical area. The new genus differs from the genus Gzheloceras by the sub-square or almost rectangular whorls cross section and coarser surface ornamentation. Pseudogzheloceras Dernov, gen. nov. is distinguished from the genus Parametacoceras Miller et Owen, 1934 (Pennsylvanian of North America, Westphalian of Western Europe, Moscovian of the Donets Basin and Moscow Syneclise) by the presence of transverse ribs on the flanks of the body chamber. The new genus includes the following species: Pseudogzheloceras costatum (Hind, 1905) comb. nov., Ps. falcatum (Sowerby in Prestwich, 1840) comb. nov., Ps. rotifer (Salter, 1864) comb. nov., Ps. postcostatum (Bisat, 1930) comb. nov., Ps. donetzense (Kruglov in Librovitch, 1939) comb. nov., Ps. orthocostatum (Kruglov in Librovitch, 1939) comb. nov., Ps. tacitum (Shimansky, 1957) comb. nov., and, possibly, Ps. maklai (Shimansky, 1967) comb. nov. These species had previously belonged to the genera Pleuronautilus, Metacoceras, Huanghoceras, and Gzheloceras. The new genus is known from the Westphalian of Western Europe and North Africa, Pennsylvanian of the Donets Basin and Moscow Syneclise, and possibly the Upper Pennsylvanian of the Fergana Depression. The research results have a great importance for studying the relationships between nautilid faunas of Carboniferous palaeobasins, as well as clarifying the taxonomy and phylogeny of non-ammonoid Carboniferous cephalopods.

Résumé :
