Texto completoTunnels and unstable slopesABSTRACT: The slope instabilities are partly responsible for the appearance of disorders or reactivation of previous disorders in old shallow tunnel structures. However, it is necessary to understand what results from these interaction contexts and what is due solely to rheological aging of these old structures. Retro-analyzes have led to the consideration of different situations of tunnels entering a hillslope: tunnel entering a slope (tunnel head), tunnel oblique to the slope or shallow tunnel parallel to the slope. Identified pathologies of structures vary depending on these situations. In this thesis, different mechanisms responsible for damage to structures were studied in the case of a shallow tunnel parallel to a slope. For this, a part of the research has focused on the influence factors through a series of parametric numerical approaches. Some are related to the elevation of the tunnel in the slope and its distance from the free surface of the slope. Then are highlighted influencing factors related to geomorphological characteristics of the hillslope and its natural evolution as well as factors related to the construction method of the tunnel. In the second part, case study back-analyzes have characterized different contexts of interaction and pathologies of old tunnels concerned. Numerical simulations were performed to illustrate the behaviour of these structures and explain tunnel lining damages. Finally in the third part, a methodology for analyzing different contexts of interaction between old tunnels and unstable slopes has been established, leading to redefine the concept of geotechnical influenced zone in this situation

Texto completoFor modelling the mechanical and air/water flow behaviour of unsaturated soils, an incremental law relating the soil deformation to the variations of both total stresses and suctions was adopted, in addition to non-linear relationships between the water and air permeabilities and the void ratio and the degree of saturation. As a first step, the soil was assumed to be elastic, and non-linearity was introduced only for water and air flows. The application of the principle of virtual works together with the finite element method lead to solving a non-linear and non-symmetric system. The numerical solution of this system was achieved by (1) implementing two-dimensional consolidation elements for unsaturated media within the multipurpose finite element program CESAR-LCPC and (2) developing an iterative algorithm for solving the non-symmetric system of equations, as part of a new subroutine, named CSNS, which was introduced in the program CESAR-LCPC to handle consolidation of isotropic unsaturated soils. In the second stage of development, the soil was assumed to be elastoplastic, which means that both mechanical and hydraulic (water and air) non-linearities were considered. This required to extend the capabilities of the consolidation subroutine CSNS, by the introduction of a new elastroplastic consitutive model, named MEINOS ; the implementation of this model required the combination of the variable stiffness method for solving hydraulic (water and air) non-linearities and of the initial stress method for solving mechanical (strain) non-linearities. The model, and its implementation in the program CESAR-LCPC were tested on one-dimensional and two-dimensional meshes. The numerical results obtained from the analysis of sample problems showed that the constitutive law used in this model together with coupling the mechanical and hydraulic behaviour could produce encouraging answers from both a mechanical and hydraulic point of view

Texto completoTogether with geological and geometallurgical modeling, geotechnical modeling is one of the essential components for the planning and development of open pit and underground mining projects. A particular characteristic of many geotechnical variables is to be direction-dependent, i.e., the measurement of a core sample not only depends on the in-situ position of this sample but also on its in-situ orientation. To account for this characteristic, it is proposed to regionalize such variables in a five-dimensional space corresponding to the product on the three-dimensional geographical space and the two-dimensional sphere, so that each measurement is indexed by its easting, northing, elevation, azimuth, and dip. Instead of making predictions and simulations conditioned to a particular direction, this new paradigm allows geotechnical variables to be interpolated at any place in the geographic space, for any direction. The spatial correlation structure can be inferred and modeled by using separable covariances or combinations of separable covariances, under an assumption of stationarity in the geographical space and isotropy on the sphere. Also, conditional simulation can be performed by turning bands, based on products of stationary random fields in the geographic space and isotropic random fields on the sphere. The proposed methodology is illustrated with the modeling of the linear discontinuity frequency (P10), the rock quality designation (RQD), and Slope Mass Rating (SMR) in three mineral deposits
