Resumen
Based on historical analysis of the scientific literature, the paper demonstrates the role, importance, and necessity of developing the female scientific potential in the Russian state and society. The sphere of young students' scientific interests has been identified and substantiated with gender consideration. Similarly, possibilities of optimizing the potential of young students have been found with gender-specific aspects borne in mind. In the research, the authors used theoretical and empirical methods of collecting information about the scientific potential of Russian women. An entire range of problems (causes) has been found which prevent the potential of Russian women from being completely fulfilled in science. Principal conditions and mechanisms have been examined which help optimize the development of the scientific potential of young higher educational institution students with gender consideration. The obtained conclusions highlight the necessity of optimizing the female potential in the country's scientific activity in the most diverse focus areas.

Resumen
Abstract Introduction. Convenience in various aspects of life in fact does not guarantee people to live happier. Every year around the world around one million people die from suicide. One of the most consistent findings in suicide research is that women make more suicide attempts (tentament suicide) than men. This research is the first research and conducted as an effort to increase the awareness of all medical potentials of young women to commit suicide. Methods. This research was a qualitative research with in-depth interview approach to respondents. The subjects of this study were patients with a diagnosis of tentamen suicide who consulted the Cattleya Consultation Center, Palembang, Indonesia. Results. All subjects with a tendency to commit suicide were female (100%) with a young age, ie the youngest age was 16 years and the oldest was 28 years. Women at this age are classified as young and productive age. It was found that most of the patients had avoidant personality traits (43%). In addition, the factors that triggered the emergence of tentamen suicide in some respondents were social and environmental factors (44%), namely in the form of friendship factors (peer groups), and the experience of bullying. Conclusion. Young women have the potential to do tentamen suicide.

Hall, Emese. "The communicative potential of young children's drawings". Thesis, University of Exeter, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/10036/105041.

Texto completo
Resumen
This study builds on the work of researchers such as Anning and Ring (2004) and Brooks (2002, 2004, 2005a, 2005b), who have used socio-cultural theory to investigate the influence of context on young children’s drawing, meaning making, and representation at home and in school. My thesis explores the communicative potential of young children’s drawings through case studies of 14 reception and year one children at a rural school in South West England. The three main research questions concerned what and how the children communicated through drawing, as well as drawing influences. Data were collected over one school year, in three seven-week research phases. Spontaneous drawings from home and school were collected in scrapbooks and discussed with the children. The class teacher and the children’s parents were interviewed and observations of the children drawing in class were also conducted. These methods were repeated for each phase. Nearly 800 drawings were analysed through a data-driven, iterative process where intersubjective understandings were emphasised. The communicative potential of the children’s drawings was considerably broad, but one main theme (Identity) and two sub-themes (Power and Purpose) were visible in relation to the data. Importantly, the drawings offered spaces for intellectual play and identity construction, where the children positioned themselves as competent and creative individuals. The drawings were also shaped by a variety of shifting socio-cultural factors stemming from home, school, and elsewhere. The implications of the study highlight the value of recognising drawing as a complex visual language that should be shared through verbal discussion. Additionally, a large-scale survey was conducted in order to gain a broad base of understanding about early years teachers’ beliefs, practices, and knowledge in relation to drawing. The findings appeared to reflect the impact of the ‘‘mixed messages’’ in current educational policy, particularly in regard to the year group that teachers were teaching.

Resumen
Today is the era of millennial generation, many researchers in social sciences claim that Millennials are well-educated, confident, achieving, taking advantage of opportunities and so forth. Nowadays, the world is full of changes and uncertainty the whole nation needs talents of entrepreneurs more than ever before. The challenge for us is that we only know entrepreneurs when they appear themselves. Therefore, there is a great amount of potential entrepreneurs who keep in the background, while others take the best from developing their enterprises. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to investigate in entrepreneurial potential of present millennial generation and to understand about potential, external and environment characteristics which contribute our interviewees to become entrepreneurs. The research is conducted by applying both qualitative and quantitative methodology. The face to face interview is conducted with Swedish young entrepreneurs whereas web-based questionnaire survey is conducted with Master students in Sweden by applying FACETS Framework (the facets of entrepreneur: identifying entrepreneurial potential). Regarding application of literature review, conceptual framework, empirical data and discussion of findings part are concluded.

Athayde, Rosemary. "Measuring enterprise potential in young people : developing a robust evaluation tool". Thesis, Kingston University, 2010. http://eprints.kingston.ac.uk/21840/.

Texto completo
Resumen
Enterprise education is a mandatory part of the national curriculum, and all secondary schools in England must provide some kind of enterprise education for pupils. This ranges from work experience and enterprise programmes delivered by voluntary organisations, to economic literacy classes. The aims and objectives of these programmes are many and varied, making the task of evaluating them fraught with difficulties. Indeed, many evaluation studies of enterprise initiatives in general, have been criticised for a lack of scientific rigour. If there is inadequate empirical evidence about the efficacy of these programmes, then how do schools decide which ones to choose? How do programme providers develop their content and reach intended target populations? Worse, how do policy makers make decisions based on the varied and often contradictory aims and objectives of enterprise initiatives, about the design and development their policies? The aim of this research is to try and help to answer some of these questions by developing a methodology for evaluation studies that could be widely used on enterprise education programmes. By using the same methodology, comparisons can be made between different programmes, and take into account the differential impacts on different populations. Specifically, the main objective was to develop a robust programme evaluation tool, which could be widely used to evaluate enterprise education programmes targeted at young people in schools. This research involved the design and piloting of an attitude scale to measure enterprise potential in young people still at school. The development of the scale involved following accepted procedures for scale development, including reliability and validity testing. Two pilot studies are reported in this thesis, along with a longitudinal evaluation of a year-long Young Enterprise Company Programme. By using the attitude scale it was possible to design a methodology using pre-and posttesting, with control groups. Scores on the attitude scale were then compared using a series of statistical tests. This approach was thus able to overcome many of the criticisms frequently made of evaluations of enterprise initiatives. The scale enables researchers to take into account other moderating factors, which may influence attitudes towards enterprise. For policy makers the scale can provide evidence of the efficacy of different types of enterprise education programmes for different target groups, thus helping to identify how best to target resources and investment. The attitude scale can also highlight the potential impact of contextual and demographic factors such as type of school, ethnic background, and a family background of business ownership.

Resumen
This study is centrally concerned with young people's capacity to identify and realise promising educational and occupational pathways. Whilst it is now well established among social scientists that young people have agency, much less is known about what types of agency young people might demonstrate. Based on field research conducted in 2011-2012 with a group of young people studying, working, and living in Nepal's capital city, Kathmandu, the present study scrutinises Western-inspired approaches prevalent in the scholarship on youth which equate agency to resistance and individuality. It does so, by bringing the literature on youth agency into conversation with theoretical work on the concepts of aspiration and mobility. Through an in-depth analysis of young people's time-space-strategies, the thesis contributes to existing literature in three ways: First, it shows that young people may grow in power as they learn to fulfil social obligations and foster stronger relationships with other people. Second, it illustrates that young people's agency may not only take the form of observable practices, but may also reside in young people’s active efforts to think through their options for improving their own and other people's situation. Third, it highlights the importance of young people's spatial mobilities and immobilities in negotiating various social pressures and in developing a sense of themselves as competent, educated, and successful people. The findings of this thesis are, therefore, of relevance to the interdisciplinary field of youth studies as well as to emerging debates in geography about the apparent need to produce 'aspirational citizens' and about the meanings attached to spatial (im)mobility in contemporary societies.

Sayed, Kassem Nermeen. "Young Egyptian activists' perceptions of the potential of social media for mobilisation". Thesis, University of York, 2013. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/4957/.

Texto completo
Resumen
This thesis explores the perceptions of a sample of young Egyptian activists about the potential of social media (SM) for mobilising collective action. Themes of media usage, dispositions and actions (online and off-line) that appear to relate to these perceptions are investigated and analysed. This thesis builds a moderate case for SM’s influence on the mobilisation of collective action. Although young activists purposively use the SM repertoire as instruments through which to mobilise collective action, they believe that the role these media may play varies significantly, depending on the media user, i.e., the contribution of SM to creating favourable dispositions towards the participation and mobilisation of individuals to move from behind their keyboards and to take to the streets differs between activists and non-politicised individuals. The findings suggest that SM are not perceived as a suitable arena for the building of an activist identity, which consequently raises concerns about the commitment to and sustainability of social movements organised on social media platforms. This thesis is organised to allow these arguments to be made clearly in relation to the data. Findings are discussed and analysed in Chapters Five (young activists’ uses of social media), Six (young activists’ contextual perceptions and political dispositions) and Seven (the perceived opportunities to link to off-line space). Each chapter considers several dimensions that are related to the theme being investigated. Throughout these chapters, the data are analysed and discussed horizontally in order to delineate the interconnection and interaction of the research themes. In each chapter, data from questionnaires and focus group discussions (FGDs) are presented. Quantitative and qualitative findings around key themes and issues are presented in an integrated fashion. In most cases, general findings begin by displaying participants’ questionnaire answers. These findings are subsequently considered within the context of what respondents said in FGDs. Chapter Eight coherently draws together these three dimensions based on findings illuminated in the preceding three chapters. It also presents recommendations for practice and future research.

Using the sweep-VEP technique, we have measured both monocular and binocular acuities in each of 82 infants from birth to 1 year of age. In contrast to some previous reports, we found no significant difference between binocular and monocular acuities at any age. To explore this question further, we have analyzed our data in terms of VEP response amplitudes.

Resumen
In this article we present a serious game for potential and young entrepreneurs, developed as part of an ongoing Leonardo da Vinci Transfer of Innovation project, Entrepreneurship in Serious. The game is an online adaptation of a board game developed in a Grundvig project funded by the European Commission and it aims to help entrepreneurs improve a series of key soft skills though a realistic gaming experience. Entrepreneurship education and especially encouraging young people to start their own businesses is one of the top priorities of the European Commission in order to create new jobs and reduce the youths' unemployment rate across European countries. Entrepreneurship values and culture is highly valorised in USA, but in Europe only 45% opt for self-employing. The data collected by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Project, show a high statistical correlation between the respondents' "knowledge, skills and experience to start a business" [1] and their involvement in entrepreneurship. The more they trust their skills and knowledge, the more likely is that they will invest in their own business or in someone else's business. It is essential to encourage the youth to start new ventures, not just because that will provide a working place for themselves but also because they will be a good example for their community and nevertheless hire other young people as their business is extending. In this context we propose a serious game for potential and new entrepreneurs that aims to enhance their soft skills and competences. The serious game developed by the consortium is an adaptation of a board game, "Competitive Game MENU", developed in the Grundvig project "SEE a Game" funded by the European Commission. The board game MENU was designed for a class session of 10 to 20 VET (Vocational Educational Training) students and for team play.

Resumen
Potential evaporation is one of the key variables in numerous studies, such as water balance calculations or assessment of hydrological impacts on different crops. This parameter represents the maximum evaporation over a certain area under available atmospheric conditions. Thus, potential evaporation/evapotranspiration depends on a number of meteorological variables: solar radiation, air temperature and humidity, wind speed etc. Among all of the factors, thermal and solar radiation characteristics play the most important role. Some methods based only on these parameters can be found in literature as alternatives to simplify estimation of potential evaporation [1, 2]. The aim of this study is to derive a method for calculation of yearly sum of potential evaporation in complex terrain conditions based on regression relationship at points located at different elevation above sea level. For this reason, ERA5 reanalysis data at fifty grid points in Transcarpathia in the domain from 22.25°E to 24.5°E of longitude and from 48°N to 49°N of latitude were used. Three predictors were applied: mean air temperature of the warmest month of the year, mean temperature in June-August and yearly sum of total solar radiation that reaches a horizontal plane at the Earth’s surface. The last one consists of net short-wave radiation and downward long-wave radiation fluxes. The results of the analysis for the period 1961–2020 show the highest Pearson correlation coefficients for the third predictor in range 0.82–0.93 with mean r = 0.88. The first and the second variables have lower relationship with potential evaporation, mean r values equal to 0.64 and 0.78, respectively. The procedure for approximation of obtained relationships revealed strong dependencies of linear regression coefficients on terrain height for all predictors. This allows applying a regression model to approximate coefficients a and b likewise, however quadratic function fits better in this case. Overall, six experiments were conducted in order to calculate yearly sums of potential evaporation using approximated and non-approximated coefficients of regression. Obtained values have been compared to ERA5 actual evaporation. As a measure for results verification, we selected a sum of errors that are negative deviations from potential evaporation. The most accurate estimates were achieved based on total solar radiation without approximation of regression parameters. Approximation leads to larger errors, nevertheless both methods outperform “original” reanalysis estimates on 41% and 11%, respectively. Thermal parameters seem less acceptable to predict potential evaporation. Comparative analysis shows that the usage of mean temperature of summer season is more reasonable if radiation data is unavailable. It is worth noting that the largest errors detected at points located inside the main ridges and in the northeastern part of the Carpathians. We conclude that total solar radiation is the most suitable parameter for potential evaporation prediction. Moreover, it provides some improvement in precision compared to ERA5 potential evaporation. Derived regression relationships are particularly important for hydrological impacts estimations in the near future using climate projections data.

Young Queenslanders’ experiences of COVID-19 : Insights from the Our Lives cohort study. Australian Catholic University, diciembre de 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.24268/acu.8yqzz.

Resumen
[Extract] These findings provide an overview of changes in young Queenslanders’ attitudes, behaviours, and life pathways during the early spread of COVID-19 and public health restrictions to contain it. Evidently, this period of sudden, mass social and economic disruption posed heightened risks to the social, economic, and psychological well-being of the Our Lives cohort and those young adults they represent. The introduction of emergency welfare measures may have been a short-term buffer to some of these impacts, as were the opportunities found by more fortunate young people to strengthen existing relationships, and cultivate an inward focus on personal goals, interests, and health. Nonetheless, our research suggests both the risks and opportunities posed by COVID-19 are being experienced unevenly within the cohort, with the potential for a widening of social inequalities. Encouragingly, there were signs that political bipartisanship on the issue of COVID-19 has helped to reverse a long-term decline in young people’s trust in government and politicians generally. Further research on the Our Lives cohort will thus be critical for understanding the longer-term implications of COVID-19 for the lives and outlooks of young Queenslanders into 2021 and beyond.

Resumen
After graduating from university, Warda struggled a lot. For a few years, she had to take odd jobs for that had no security, days off or health insurance. Eventually she connected with Youth Participation and Employment (YPE) programme partner Casal Del Infants. With their support, she successfully entered the formal labour market. She was selected by Casal to join a jobs programme, where she was trained for one month as a quality control officer. After completing her training, she obtained a placement in maintenance at an automotive company. This was facilitated through Casal’s ‘Activa Counter’, its employment integration desk. This programme supports internships and helps young people to integrate into the private sector. The programme has gained in popularity over the years and has the potential to help many young people into work.

Resumen
Labor market institutions shape the return to workers’ skills. They define the incentives of firms and workers to invest in general and specific skills, affecting the returns to experience and tenure. This paper presents an empirical assessment of this hypothesis. We take advantage of rich administrative data from Brazil and Chile, two countries with different regulatoryframeworks. We focus on young workers as they face to a greater extent the trade-off between accumulating general or specific skills. The analysis is motivated by a simple conceptual framework, from which we derive empirical predictions. It takes into account the potential endogeneity of occupational choices, while allowing for heterogenous returns to tenure and experience. We find positive average returns to both dimensions in both countries, with larger returns to tenure in Brazil and larger returns to experience in Chile. This is consistent with the original conjecture as the more rigid labor market legislation in Brazil encourages firms to carry out additional investments in young workers’s specific skills. Chile’s institutions, on the contrary, promote the acquisition of general skills. We further examine how these returns differ by educational attainment, an important policy consideration in the region, and find that more educated workers in both countries face larger returns to experience and tenure relative to their less educated counterparts.

Resumen
In the housing literature, Sweden is often portrayed as a so-called “cost-rental” society associated with tenure neutrality, where rental housing should be an attractive alternative – and not just a step in the way – to homeownership. A large and well-developed rental sector has traditionally made it possible for young adults to leave their family home at a relatively young age. However, this logic has been clearly disrupted as rental housing has become harder to access and homeownership has been favoured by incremental ideological political shifts and fiscal policy encouraging homeownership. As more households – also young ones – are steered into homeownership, Sweden has become one of the most mortgage-indebted nations in the OECD. This working paper on homeownership and mortgagization takes on the question of mortgaged indebtedness in discourse and practice. The working paper is the joint product of two different studies written as part of the research internship in the project “Financialisation of everyday life. Intersectional perspectives on housing and labor precarity” at Malmö university, led by Chiara Valli. In the first section, Neil Dunne presents a discourse analysis on how homeownership has been discussed in the largest newspapers in Sweden over the last decades, while Greta Cattabriga and Nathan O’Néill in the second section discuss perceptions and lived experiences of mortgaged homeownership on the basis of interviews with young adults. Put together, the two studies contribute with significant additions to the discussion about whether Sweden is moving towards a homeownership society and what the potential consequences are for young adults.

Resumen
The overall goal of this research work was to identify the main proteolytic activities which take place in the digestive tracts of young bass fish, and use the knowledge acquired in order to improve feed protein utilization in juvenile fish based on their digestive capacity. The results of the work clearly showed that the young fish possess the entire profile of proteolytic enzymes which is found in adult fish. Yet, in the young fish the level of activity is substantially lower per gram tissue (or gram protein) as compared with the activity found in the digestive tracts of the same fish at an older (larger) age. In addition it was found that the main proteolytic enzyme in these fish is chymotrypsin which accounts for almost 80% of the proteolytic activity. An effort aimed at enhancing this activity has lead to the interesting finding that alcohol substantially enhances the proteolytic activity of fish intestines. Fish intestinal homogenates were used in order to evaluate the suitability of various feeds for the fish. Potential feed proteins were subjected to the proteolytic activity of the fish enzymes in vitro, in a manner simulating the natural process. The proteolytic activity was monitored by the valuation of the products, i.e. amino acid released. This method has proven to be a powerful tool which enables us to predict with a very high degree of accuracy the potential of a feed to promote growth. Selection of feed based on the proteolytic capacity of the fish degestive tracts can now be implemented in feed formulation, as anticipated in the original research proposal.

Voutilainen, M. Mariah y Crystal Green. Spotlight on Gamified Curricula. HundrED, marzo de 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.58261/ikck1648.

Resumen
Given its potential for motivating and engaging learners and teachers alike, HundrED and partner Supercell teamed up with the aim of bringing attention to and curating education innovations that gamify curricula. Our assertion is that gamification should be used more systematically; it has the potential to foster innovative learning environments for young people aged 16-25, especially those from marginalised backgrounds, often difficult for the gaming industry to reach. Our search for and identification of 10-15 impactful and scalable education innovations fulfilling the Spotlight criteria revealed that additional supports are necessary for the successful gamification of curricula. We highlight specific challenges, including the lack of systems modelling that can serve as guidance for educators and administrators interested in implementing gamification in their classrooms and schools. We learned from the selected innovators that gamification puts learners at the centre of their own experience, valuing their ideas and goals and engaging them in discovery. From setting the stage for developing real-world solutions to very imminent problems, or realising they have the ability to start their own business, young people can find their place and grow a mindset of lifelong learning through gamified curricula.
