Resumen
For XML documents, existing keyword retrieval methods encode each node with Dewey encoding, comparing Dewey encodings part by part is necessary in LCA computation. When the depth of XML is large, lots of LCA computations will affect the performance of keyword search. In this paper we propose a novel labeling method called Level-TRaverse (LTR) encoding, combine with the definition of the result set based on Exclusive Lowest Common Ancestor (ELCA),design a query Bottom-Up Level Algorithm(BULA).The experiments demonstrate this method improves the efficiency and the veracity of XML keyword retrieval.

Resumen
Abstract This paper argues for, and presents, a modest approach to XML encoding for use by the majority of contemporary linguists who need to engage in corpus construction. While extensive standards for corpus encoding exist - most notably, the Text Encoding Initiative’s Guidelines and the Corpus Encoding Standard based on them - these are rather heavyweight approaches, implicitly intended for major corpus-building projects, which are rather different from the increasingly common efforts in corpus construction undertaken by individual researchers in support of their personal research goals. Therefore, there is a clear benefit to be had from a set of recommendations (not a standard) that outlines general best practices in the use of XML in corpora without going into any of the more technical aspects of XML or the full weight of TEI encoding. This paper presents such a set of suggestions, dubbed Modest XML for Corpora, and posits that such a set of pointers to a limited level of XML knowledge could work as part of the normal, general training of corpus linguists. The Modest XML recommendations cover the following set of things, which, according to the foregoing argument, are sufficient knowledge about XML for most corpus linguists’ day-to-day needs: use of tags; adding attribute value pairs; recommended use of attributes; nesting of tags; encoding of special characters; XML well-formedness; a collection of de facto standard tags and attributes; going beyond the basic de facto standard tags; and text headers.

We present a new efficient XML encoding and labeling scheme for dynamic XML document called CFE (Continued Fraction-based Encoding) which labels nodes with continued fractions in this paper. CFE has three important properties which form the foundations of this paper. The experimental results show that CFE provides fairly reasonable XML query processing performance while completely avoiding re-labeling for updates.

In order to resolve the inefficiency for XML data query and support dynamic updates, etc, this paper has proposed an improved method to encode XML document nodes. On the basic of region encoding and the prefix encoding, it introduces a XML document coding schema base on binary (CSBB). The CSBB code use binary encoding strategy and make the bit string inserted in order. The bit string inserted algorithm can generate ordered bit string to reserve space for the inserted new nodes, and not influence on the others. Experiments shows the CSBB code can effectively avoid re-encoding of nodes, and supports the nodes Dynamic Update.

Resumen
Query processing of graph-structured XML data is a rising topic in XML research field. This paper focuses on reachability query methods of graph-structured XML data. Encoding scheme of CDGX (Coding Directed Graph-structured XML data) is proposed in this paper, which not only can effectively solve the circle problem, but also avoiding a large number of intermediate data and saving storage space. And based on encoding scheme of CDGX, a new reachability query method RJDG (Reachability Judgment on Directed Graph) is put forward to. In RJDG, adjacent nodes in a same graph-structured XML document are got and stored beforehand. RJDG only needs to deal with the adjacent nodes to decide the reachability relationship between XML nodes. Experiments illustrate that RJDG is an efficient reachability query method.

Resumen
Detecting differences between XML documents is one of most important research topics for XML. Since XML documents are generally considered to be organized in a tree structure, most previous research has attempted to detect differences using tree-matching algorithms. However, most tree-matching algorithms have inadequate performance owing to limitations in terms of the execution time, optimality and scalability. This study proposes a stream-based difference detection method in which an XML binary encoding algorithm is used to provide improved performance relative to that of previous tree-matching algorithms. A tree-structured analysis of XML is not essential in order to detect differences. We use a D-Path algorithm that has an optimal result quality for difference detection between two streams and has a lower time complexity than tree-based methods. We then modify the existing XML binary encoding method to tokenize the stream and the algorithm in order to support more operations than D-Path algorithm does. The experimental results reveal greater efficiency for the proposed method relative to tree-based methods. The execution time is at least 4 times faster than state-of-the-art tree-based methods. In addition, the scalability is much more efficient.

Resumen
The rise of XML as a de facto standard for document and data exchange has created a need to store and query XML documents in relational databases, today's de facto standard for data storage. Two common strategies for storing XML documents in relational databases, a process known as document shredding, are Interval encoding and ORDPATH Encoding. Interval encoding, which uses a fixed mapping for shredding XML documents, tends to favor selection queries, at a potential cost of O(N) for supporting insertion queries. ORDPATH Encoding, which uses a looser mapping for shredding XML, supports fixed-cost insertions, at a potential cost of longer-running selection queries. Experiments conducted for this research suggest that the breakeven point between the two algorithms occurs when users offer an average 1 insertion to every 5.6 queries, relative to documents of between 1.5 MB and 4 MB in size. However, heterogeneous tests of varying mixes of selects and inserts indicate that Interval always outperforms ORDPATH for mixes ranging from 76% selects to 88% selects. Queries for this experiment and sample documents were drawn from the XMark benchmark suite.

Texto completo
Resumen
Since the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has recommended XQuery as the standard XML query language, the interest in using existing relational technology to query the XML data has dramatically increased. The most significant challenge of the relational approach is how to fully support XQuery semantics in XQuery-to-SQL translation. To eliminate the implicit semantics of XQuery, an XQuery fragment must be defined with simple syntax and explicit semantics. XQ is proposed as an XQuery fragment to express XML queries.

In this thesis, XQ is intensively investigated. It is encoded by System F, a second-order lambda calculus with a considerable expressive power and a strong normalization property. Since XML data is defined as inductive data types, XML tree and XML forest, in System F, all basic XML operators in XQ have been successfully encoded. Also, the semantics of XQ are represented in System F where XQ's semantics environment is encoded by an Environment data type with the corresponding operators. The successful encoding of XQ by System F ensures the termination of XQ query evaluation.

Moreover, an extension of XQ by a new tree operator Xtree and a vertical Vfor clause is proposed in this thesis to express some undefinable XQ queries. It is demonstrated that this extension still allows XQ to retain its XQ-to-SQL translation property that ensures the polynomial evaluation time complexity, and its System F encodable property that ensures the termination of query evaluation.

It introduces Egyptological projects actively involved in the development of TEI encoding recommendations and online thesauri/ontologies. Special attention is paid to the TEI encoding of toponyms, personal names, relative and absolute dates, as well as language varieties and script varieties. Furthermore, the presentation introduces the current state of an EpiDoc Cheatsheet for Egyptology compiled by Daniel A. Werning, which gives recommendations for the encoding of traditional philological markup in Egyptology which, in turn, is largely conform to the EpiDoc Guidelines (v8.21). Al, Zadjali Hanaa. "Compressing labels of dynamic XML data using Base-9 scheme and Fibonacci encoding". Thesis, University of Sheffield, 2017. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/18571/.

Resumen
The flexibility and self-describing nature of XML has made it the most common mark-up language used for data representation over the Web. XML data is naturally modelled as a tree, where the structural tree information can be encoded into labels via XML labelling scheme in order to permit answers to queries without the need to access original XML files. As the transmission of XML data over the Internet has become vibrant, it has also become necessary to have an XML labelling scheme that supports dynamic XML data. For a large-scale and frequently updated XML document, existing dynamic XML labelling schemes still suffer from high growth rates in terms of their label size, which can result in overflow problems and/or ambiguous data/query retrievals. This thesis considers the compression of XML labels. A novel XML labelling scheme, named “Base-9”, has been developed to generate labels that are as compact as possible and yet provide efficient support for queries to both static and dynamic XML data. A Fibonacci prefix-encoding method has been used for the first time to store Base-9’s XML labels in a compressed format, with the intention of minimising the storage space without degrading XML querying performance. The thesis also investigates the compression of XML labels using various existing prefix-encoding methods. This investigation has resulted in the proposal of a novel prefix-encoding method named “Elias-Fibonacci of order 3”, which has achieved the fastest encoding time of all prefix-encoding methods studied in this thesis, whereas Fibonacci encoding was found to require the minimum storage. Unlike current XML labelling schemes, the new Base-9 labelling scheme ensures the generation of short labels even after large, frequent, skewed insertions. The advantages of such short labels as those generated by the combination of applying the Base-9 scheme and the use of Fibonacci encoding in terms of storing, updating, retrieving and querying XML data are supported by the experimental results reported herein.

Resumen
With the rapid growth of XML documents to serve as a popular and major media for storage and interchange of the data on the Web, there is an increasing interest in using existing traditional relational database techniques to store and/or query XML data. Since XQuery is becoming a standard XML query language, significant effort has been made in developing an efficient and comprehensive XQuery-to-SQL query processor. In this thesis, we design and implement an XQuery-to-SQL Query Processor based on the Dynamic Intervals approach. We also provide a comprehensive translation for XQuery basic operations and FLWR expressions. The query processor is able to translate a complex XQuery query, which might include arbitrarily composed and nested FLWR expressions, basic functions, and element constructors, into a single SQL query for RDBMS and a physical plan for the XQuery-enhanced Relational Engine. In order to produce efficient and concise SQL queries, succinct XQuery to SQL translation templates and the optimization algorithms for the SQL query generation are proposed and implemented. The preferable merge-join approach is also proposed to avoid the inefficient nested-loop evaluation for FLWR expressions. Merge-join patterns and query rewriting rules are designed to identify XQuery fragments that can utilize the efficient merge-join evaluation. Proofs of correctness of the approach are provided in the thesis. Experimental results justify the correctness of our work.

Resumen
The Internet and networks in general have become essential tools for disseminating in-formation. Search engines have become the predominant means of finding information on the Web and all other data repositories, including local resources. Domain scientists regularly acquire and analyze images generated by equipment such as microscopes and cameras, resulting in complex image files that need to be managed in a convenient manner. This type of integrated environment has been recently termed a netcentric sci-entific research repository. I developed a number of data manipulation tools that allow researchers to manage their information more effectively in a netcentric environment. The specific contributions are: (1) A unique interface for management of data including files and relational databases. A wrapper for relational databases was developed so that the data can be indexed and searched using traditional search engines. This approach allows data in databases to be searched with the same interface as other data. Fur-thermore, this approach makes it easier for scientists to work with their data if they are not familiar with SQL. (2) A Web services based architecture for integrating analysis op-erations into a repository. This technique allows the system to leverage the large num-ber of existing tools by wrapping them with a Web service and registering the service with the repository. Metadata associated with Web services was enhanced to allow this feature to be included. In addition, an improved binary to text encoding scheme was de-veloped to reduce the size overhead for sending large scientific data files via XML mes-sages used in Web services. (3) Integrated image analysis operations with SQL. This technique allows for images to be stored and managed conveniently in a relational da-tabase. SQL supplemented with map algebra operations is used to select and perform operations on sets of images.

This work proposes an environment for programming programmable logic controllers applied to oil wells with BCP type method of artificially lifting. The environment will have an editor based in the diagram of sequential functions for programming of PLCs. This language was chosen due to the fact of being high-level and accepted by the international standard IEC 61131-3. The use of these control programs in real PLC will be possible with the use of an intermediate level of language based on XML specification PLCopen T6 XML. For the testing and validation of the control programs, an area should be available for viewing variables obtained through communication with a real PLC. Thus, the main contribution of this work is to develop a computational environment that allows: modeling, testing and validating the controls represented in SFC and applied in oil wells with BCP type method of artificially lifting

Resumen
This chapter describes how digital critical edition supposes a mastery of markup systems, providing an overview in the form of an inventory of standards, and of markup, presentation, and archiving techniques. It discusses the state of the art while focusing on key architectures and techniques considered as the basis of digital critical edition. The chapter introduces some aspects of markup technology that are particularly relevant to textual scholarship, such as the Extensible Markup Language (XML) and the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI), and considers some of their limitations, possibilities, and future potential. Since there is no need to be conversant with all aspects and details of the markup technology, most of what is covered here is of a general nature, albeit focusing on issues assumed to be of particular relevance for textual scholarship.

Resumen
The goal of the research project was to evaluate the potential to genetically modify or engineer carbohydrate metabolism in tomato fruit to enhance levels of fructose, a sugar with nearly twice the sweetness value of other sugars. The specific research objectives to achieve that goal were to: 1. Establish the inheritance of a fructose-accumulating trait identified in F1 hybrids of an inferspecific cross between L. hirsutum XL. esculentum and identify linked molecular markers to facilitate its introgression into tomato cultivars. This objective was completed with the genetic data indicating a single major gene, termed Fgr (Fructose glucose ratio), that controlled the partitioning of hexose in the mature fruit. Molecular markers for the gene, were developed to aid introgression of this gene into cultivated tomato. In addition, a second major gene encoding fructokinase 2 (FK2) was found to be a determinant of the fructose to glucose ratio in fruit. The relationship between FK2 and Fgr is epistatic with a combined synergistic effect of the two hirsutum-derived genes on fructose/glucose ratios. 2. Characterize the metabolic and transport properties responsible for high fructose/glucose ratios in fructose-accumulating genotypes. The effect of both the Fgr and FK2 genes on the developmental accumulation of hexoses was studied in a wide range of genetic backgrounds. In all backgrounds the trait is a developmental one and that the increase in fructose to glucose ratio occurs at the breaker stage of fruit development. The following enzymes were assayed, none of which showed differences between genotypes, at either the breaker or ripe stage: invertase, sucrose synthase, FK1, FK2, hexokinase, PGI and PGM. The lack of effect of the FK2 gene on fructokinase activity is surprising and at present we have no explanation for the phenomenon. However, the hirsutum derived Fgr allele was associated with significantly lower levels of phosphorylated glucose, G1c-1-P and G1c-6-P and concomitantly higher levels of the phosphorylated fructose, Fru-6-P, in both the breaker and ripe stage. This suggests a significant role for the isomerase reaction. 3. Develop and implement molecular genetic strategies for the production of transgenic plants with altered levels of enzymes that potentially control fructose/glucose ratios in fruit. This objective focused on manipulating hexokinase and fructokinase expression in transgenic plants. Two highly divergent cDNA clones (Frk1 and Frk2), encoding fructokinase (EC 2.7.1.4), were isolated from tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) and a potato fructokinase cDNA clone was obtained from Dr. Howard Davies. Following expression in yeast, each fructokinase was identified to code for one of the tomato or potato fructokinase isoforms Transgenic tomato plants were generated with the fructokinase cDNA clone in both sense and antisense orientations and the effect of the gene on tomato plants is currently being studied.
