Resumen
The present study is concerned with the writer's ideologies towards violence against women. The study focuses on analyzing violence against women in English novel to see the extent the writers are being affected and influenced by their genders. It also focuses on showing to what extent the writer's ideologies are reflected in their works. Gender influences social groups ideologies; therefore, when a writer discusses an issue that concerns the other gender, they will be either subjective or objective depending on the degree of influence, i.e., gender has influenced their thoughts as well as behaviors. A single fact may be presented differently by different writers depending on the range of affectedness by ideologies. The study aims to uncover the hidden gender-based ideologies by analyzing the discursive structure of a novel based on Van Dijk's model (2000) of ideology and racism. The selected novel is based on discussing violence against women. The study will later on reveal the real writer’s gender-based ideologies and whether the writer is a feminist or an anti-feminist? Or Is he prejudiced? Or Is he biased?

Resumen
The number of Chinese women writers has increased considerably in the past few years. Some write poetry, essays, children's stories, reportage and television scripts. But since the majority write fiction, and they are the most influential, I will talk today about some middle-aged and younger women who have introduced new themes or written controversial work in recent years.

Singh, Amritesh. "Tudor women writers fashioning masculinity". Thesis, University of York, 2011. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/1522/.

Texto completo
Resumen
This thesis contributes to the growing interest in early modern masculinity and its literary representations by introducing texts by women writers into dialogue with their male-authored counterparts. It argues for a more nuanced approach that recognises that the concepts of masculinity and femininity can only be fully understood when studied in relation with each other. The first chapter explores how, notwithstanding the wisdom of conduct books and marriage guides, the demands of the state may not always be commensurate with those of the domestic realm and shows that this conflict necessitates a rethinking of existing definitions of masculinity by focusing on selected writings of the Tudor sisters Mary and Elizabeth and Jane Fitzalan’s *Tragedie of Iphigeneia*. The second chapter identifies how Elizabeth’s unique discursive strategies were designed to elicit support from her male subjects and subdue the belligerence that simmered under polemic like John Stubbs’ *Gaping Gulf*. In her letters to Anjou, the chapter examines how Elizabeth manoeuvred around her position as a beloved and as a monarch to fashion a husband who would not only be sympathetic but also subordinate to her political authority. This chapter also shows how the fabulous world of John Lyly’s *Galatea* consummates the Queen’s desire for the ideal male subject. The final chapter investigates the construction of martial manhood. It juxtaposes Mary Sidney’s *The Tragedy of Antonie* with William Shakespeare’s *Antony and Cleopatra* to determine how the figure of Cleopatra, common to both plays, challenges and revises the martial code of masculinity as embodied by Antony. By examining the authorial position appropriated by Cleopatra in the plays and its impact on the narrative, this chapter also extends this thesis’ interest in the extent to which female characters within texts compete for diegetic control with male protagonists.

Resumen
This study examines the literature written by the generation of women who come between pioneering women writers such as Catharine Parr Traill and Susanna Moodie and contemporary women writers such as Alice Munro and Margaret Laurence, literature which helps us to understand the tradition of New Woman writing present in Canada at the turn of the century. This thesis examines selected texts published between 1895 and 1910, a period of rapid urban and industrial expansion in Canada when women began seeing themselves and their roles in society in "new" ways. The first chapter of this thesis examines the concept of the "New Woman" in terms of its original connotations. The second chapter focuses on the representations of the "New Woman" in Lily Dougall's The Madonna of a Day. Sara Jeannette Duncan's A Daughter of Today is the subject of the third chapter. The final chapter examines short stories written by Canadian women journalists Kit Coleman, Ethelwyn Wetherald, and Jean Blewett. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)

Bordoni, Silvia. "Imaginary homeland : romantic women writers and Italy". Thesis, University of Nottingham, 2004. http://eprints.nottingham.ac.uk/13190/.

Resumen
The aim of this work is to investigate the importance of Italy, as a real and imaginary country, in British Romanticism, particularly in women's writings. Since the heyday of the Grand Tour, Italy has been approached as an alien and distant country, but also as a liberating and stimulating reality. Italy as an 'other country' constitutes an important element in the delineation of British Romanticism. The opposition between North and South, which was developed and consolidated by Romantic authors, constitutes the theoretical frame for this work. As part of southern Europe, Italy stands in opposition to Northern societies. North and South, however, are not simply in opposition; they merge and interconnect in the literary production of the time. Italy and Great Britain exemplify the dialogical connection between apparently irreconcilable opposites. In women's writings, Italy is exploited as an alternative imaginary setting onto which they can project their anxieties, their artistic ambitions and their dreams of literary success. The role of Italy in women's writings is important to demonstrate their participation in contemporary social, national and political issues. The work focuses first on travel reports and the real encounter with Italy. Then it analyses the imaginary figurations of Italy in Gothic literature and in poetry at the end of the eighteenth century. With the beginning of the nineteenth century, the idea of Italy as a morally liberating and artistically stimulating country is consolidated in the works of Stael and Byron. The representation of Italy as an ideal country for women artists makes their support of the Italian fight for independence particularly important. Since Italy represents a feminised and politically enslaved country, women associate its effort to gain freedom with their own struggle for political and social emancipation.

Until recently little attention has been paid to Latin American women writers and even less to those of them who are Jewish. This dissertation is an attempt to remedy that situation through the study of four contemporary Argentine Jewish women writers. My introduction explores theoretical issues relating to the specificity of both Jewish and women's writing. Chapter One considers the work of Alejandra Pizarnik (1936-1972). Although a Jew by birth, she shows very little overt Jewish influence in her work because she did not acknowledge her heritage. However, her background appears obliquely throughout her writing, for example, in many biblical references. Pizarnik's perspective on women is equally elusive, but nonetheless can be traced in her treatment of love and loss. Ana Maria Shua (1951- ), whose writing is the subject of the second chapter, is openly Jewish and unavowedly feminist. I study those aspects of her work that can be considered Jewish, such as her interest in the immigrant experience and her recounting of traditional Jewish folk tales. Although Shua does not admit to being a feminist, her books portray female dominance over men, particularly in El marido argentino promedio. Chapter Three centers on the writings of Manuela Fingueret (1945- ). Traditional customs, the Yiddish language and biblical references appear in her fiction and poetry. She depicts her female characters as strong and independent. Her poetry contains an element of eroticism, which she presents from a distinctively feminine perspective. The final chapter studies the work of Alicia Steimberg (1933- ). Steimberg's characters indicate contradictory feelings about being Jewish. Steimberg, like Shua, deals with the Jewish immigrant experience; she focuses on women, many of whom work outside the home. Steimberg's treatment of eroticism is idiosyncratically straightforward in its emphases. The dissertation's epilogue summarizes its conclusions and points the way for additional work to be done on Latin-American Jewish women writers.

Resumen
This anthology of nineteenth-century women’s regional fiction, written in the mode of canon revision, explores how persistent stereotypes of Appalachian women originated. These stereotypes are not merely identified but are also considered in the context of women’s studies. Works by the following six authors are included: Elizabeth Appleton, Rebecca Harding Davis, Frances Hodgson Burnett, Constance Fenimore Woolson, Sherwood Bonner, and Mary Noailles Murfree. Topics addressed include nineteenth-century women as authors, the influence of northern literary magazines on regional writing, the image of the Appalachian woman in fiction, and the critical evaluation of primary texts. Original work required for the completion of a master’s thesis comes by way of a thirty-page analytical introduction, six biographical headnote entries, and an extended bibliography of primary works by Appalachian women writers.

Resumen
While in the Western societies the act of translating was a phenomenon that had a powerful tradition which started long before the sixteenth century, in the Romanian Principalities the first timid attempts were recorded at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Taking into account the translations accomplished by the nineteenth Romanian women writers and the large range of languages (French, Italian, Greek, Latin, German, English, Spanish) they used, I have tried to “discover” and “revive” as many women writers as I could, first of all by focusing all my attention on the works of the neglected women (writers) translators. The present research, which limits only to Romanian women writers that translated writings of foreign women authors, needs also a special attention to finding biographical data about the translators since a lot of them used pen names (few writers used even more than three pen names) or signed their writing or translations only with the initial letters of their names, especially for the works published in installments. There is a significant amount of research in order to bring to light all the translated works since most of them can be found only in (incomplete) issues of journals, almanacs, literary magazines, theatre’s journals, or manuscripts. By using the international database Women Writers in History we may involve researchers and students from many European countries in contributing with important information concerning their women writers. There are also negotiations with national libraries in 25 countries around Europe in order to get partners for this database which offers open access.

Resumen
The present article intends to produce new historiography about the nineteenth century Romanian women's writing from transnational and relational perspectives. It also takes as its starting point not only the production aspect of women's literary writing, but their reception-- especially by readers or other women writers or translators contemporary to the publication. This approach takes into account all the contributions to the literary field of both canonical and non-canonical women writers. A second approach refers to the fact that women's writing is viewed from an explicitly transnational perspective, underlining the connections between women writers across the world at the literary and translation levels. By using these methods, the students get familiar with social and cultural contexts in which women's writing was produced, promoted, and translated. As a member of the European project Women Writers in History I have taken part into training schools, workshops and conference where along with my colleagues from other 25 countries I have worked for the Women Writers database (www.womenwriters.nl) as an electronic means for teaching literature. The present database contains information on the production of women writers from the Middle Ages up to 1900, and on the reception of their writing in the world. Thus the database offers students the possibility to study these women's writing in their international context and make connections concerning their transnational historiography. The entries for authors refer to biographical details, professional situation, writing achievements (fictional and non-fictional writings), translations, national and international critical reception, allowing the students to analyze women's writing from a comparative perspective.

Resumen
This paper examines texts written by two renowned Filipino post-colonial writers in the guise of motifs and forms of representations of post-colonial Filipina women. Dichotomizing styles of narrative, this textual exploration aims to frame how female characters were re/presented by two authors in terms of virtue, vices, passion, and struggles, to determine images that were used in underpinning societal roles of the female characters, and to identify the level of representation used by each author. I utilize three stories by the male writer Nick Joaquin – Mayday Eve, Summer Solstice, and Three Generations; and three stories by the female writer Estrella Alfon –Servant Girl, Magnificence, and Low Wall. Furthermore, the study compares representations of women by a male and female author, whether unintentionally or unwittingly, in conjunction with the period when women were faced with the problem of adapting to their identities as women brought about by colonization. Clearly, Joaquin’s narratives significantly lean on a less-feminist depiction, which contrasts with Alfon’s re/presentation. Images of being weak, frail, submissive, and dependent, are dominant in Juaquin’s characters, while Alfon possesses the opposite. There is an apparent dichotomy of representation between the authors, resulting in a regulated level of representation of Joaquin’s fiction concurrent with a respected representation of Alfon’s fiction.

Resumen
Jane Austen is one of the most prominent writers of the 19th century. In terms of chronology, her six novels fall between the 18th-century neoclassical formality and the effusive romanticism after the 19th century. Her novels portray the socio-political and cultural landscape of Regency England even though her prose style, manner, and approach held no resemblance to her contemporaries. Austen seems to operate in a limited landscape and writes about what she is most familiar with birth, love, marriage, death, faith, and judgment. She details the tedious business of living of the gentry in her society and displays unrivaled knowledge of the upper middle class. Even though issues of women were at the crux of Austen’s writing, Austen is not considered to be a staunch feminist writer. She concentrated on upper-middle-class women whose marriage, and courtship were the cynosure of her plots as she thoroughly examines the right basis for marriage in her work. However, most of her heroines have been written off critically as the selfsame Cinderellas. Therefore, the monotonous aura engulfing Austenian heroines who are in search of marital bliss has been inadvertently appendaged to the Cinderella Complex and hence the prejudiced critique. Austenian heroines are said to lack passion and vibrancy and by extension, character. This paper intends to analyze the portrayal of two Austenian heroines in view of the Cinderella Complex with the objective of exploring these portrayals beyond the Cinderella archetype. Keywords: Victorian women, Cinderella Complex, marriage, self-discovery, happiness

Resumen
Nélida Piñon (1937-2022) was one of the main Brazilian writers of the 20th century. Piñon explored themes related to identity, power, love and resistance, and her female characters often defy traditional gender stereotypes. She stood out for giving a voice to strong and independent women, who faced challenges and who seek their own path in life. This work aims at female freedom against patriarchy in the novel she wrote entitled ''Founder'' based on the article by Lúcia Osama Zolin, from 2008, called ''The Representation of Women in the Narrative of Nélida Piñon''. In the aforementioned novel, Piñon addressed the conditions of women against the social expectations imposed on them, in the fight for equality.

Resumen
The subject of this research is the social roles and stereotypes of femininity in the almanac «Kurier Kryvbasu». The aim of the study is to conduct a systematic analysis of gender stereotypes of femininity in the literary almanac. The article employs the following methods: theoretical – for studying gender theory, stereotyping, and their application in the analysis of the content of the periodical; systemic-structural analysis – for conducting a systematic analysis of the social roles of femininity in the almanac «Kurier Kryvbasu»; structural-typological – for studying the content and structure of the literary almanac; descriptive method - for interpreting women’s roles and stereotypes. Main findings. The role of gender stereotypes in representing women in the media texts of contemporary Ukrainian writers in the pages of the periodical almanac «Kurier Kryvbasu» has been elucidated. A systematic analysis of feminine social roles, including the beautiful woman, the businesswoman, the happy woman, the sex symbol, and the wife-mother, is presented. The social roles and stereotypes of femininity in the literary almanac «Kurier Kryvbasu» are interpreted according to the classification of G. Kovalova and V. Danilyan. Conclusions. In the almanac «Kurier Kryvbasu», entrenched perceptions regarding women’s model appearance, their frivolity and accessibility, professional inferiority, sexual objectification, competent housekeeping, maternal duties, and the pursuit of illusory «female happiness» in the form of marriage, family, and children are used. However, a trend of feminist rise is observed, where the pages of the magazine describe women’s career successes, self-actualization, participation in military actions, etc. Significance. The analysis of gender stereotypes, both femininity and masculinity, in Ukrainian literary-artistic periodicals is important for the development of the contemporary media sphere, as such research will encourage editorial teams to direct media content towards gender balance and gender equality. Key words: gender stereotypes, social role, femininity, journal, literary magazine, media text.

Can goal setting help women in India use digital saving services more? Busara, mayo de 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.62372/fkkp8467.

Resumen
Financial participation within households serves as an important indicator of women’s economic empowerment. While previous studies have explored household finances and savings, digital savings via online or mobile channels have been overlooked. This study looks to shed light here, particularly around goal setting as a process towards saving in women. We used semi-structured in-depth interviews (IDIs) and focus group discussions (FGDs) to explore topics like savings patterns, digital finance adoption, mental accounting, money allocation, expenses, and agency. Each FGD had 3-5 participants, encouraging dialogue about savings behaviors, approaches, barriers, strategies, and financial decision-making dynamics within their households. We also performed mindmapping where we asked participants to write out the distribution of their household income in size bubbles and flowcharts around which we developed our follow up conversations to gain insight on our target group.
