Resumen
Windows provide building occupants with important physiological and psychological benefits but are absent from many indoor spaces. It is argued that most existing attempts at compensating for an absence of windows fall short because they lack either outdoor environmental information or sensory stimulation. A wind-animated digital-tree shadow was used to test this hypothesis. The work concludes that the following strategies are likely to help most to compensate for an absence of windows: (1) establishing a live connection with the outdoors; (2) introducing controllable sensory variation into a space; (3) making such change a source of natural environmental information. It is suggested that these approaches could be helpful used either separately or in combinations but that a live connection with the outdoors that introduces controllable naturally-generated change into a space would likely be most effective. The video files that accompany this thesis show the digital shadow with wind and computer generated movement.

Il presente elaborato si propone di definire ed implementare un metodo analitico che possa calcolare la riduzione dei consumi a seguito dell'applicazione di un design windowless su un aeromobile di corto-medio raggio. Nella soluzione proposta si ipotizza l'utilizzo di un sistema di telecamere, monitor e falsi finestrini per garantire ai passeggeri un adeguato livello di comfort. L'eliminazione dei finestrini e dei loro rinforzi da un velivolo passeggeri tradizionale comporta una diminuzione di peso. Da questa diminuzione di peso si calcola la riduzione del consumo di carburante, delle emissioni e dei costi operativi. Nell'elaborato si espongono le equazioni analitiche usate per valutare questo risparmio che provengono dall'ambito del progetto preliminare e del calcolo strutturale. Per implementare queste equazioni si è creato un codice in MATLAB. Inoltre, si mostrano i risultati numerici su due velivoli (Airbus 320 e Boeing 737). Alla fine di questa trattazione si dimostra che se questa configurazione fosse applicata alla maggior parte dei velivoli a corto-medio raggio operativi sarebbe possibile in un anno evitare di rilasciare nell'ambiente diversi milioni di tonnellate di anidride carbonica e di risparmiare diversi milioni di dollari.

Resumen
Previous research from environmental psychology shows that human well-being suffers in windowless environments in many ways and a window view of nature is psychologically and physiologically beneficial to humans. Current window substitutes, still images and video, lack three dimensional properties necessary for a realistic viewing experience – primarily motion parallax. We present a new system using a head-coupled display and image-based rendering to simulate a photorealistic artificial window view of nature with motion parallax. Evaluation data obtained from human subjects suggest that the system prototype is a better window substitute than a static image and has significantly more positive effects on observers’ moods. The test subjects judged the system prototype as a good simulation of, and acceptable replacement for, a real window, and accorded it much higher ratings for realism and preference than a static image.

Currently, a human spends about 90% of their time indoors, therefore, increasingly spaces are designed to promote comfort and natural light. The lack of a quality indoor space can be the cause of several health problems, such as the inhibition of hormones that affect heart rate, mood and performance. Thus, experts consider the human being a biophilic species, since it is dependent on nature. Besides, the proximity to large windows, natural materials and plants promote your health and well-being. In this sense, this project seeks to answer this problem by developing lighting for a windowless space. The project was conceived for a workspace, taking into account that it is where an ordinary citizen spends most of their day, as well as, where comfort and productivity are essential. In an initial approach to the theme, the search for projects with the same problematic demonstrated that there are already several proposals in this area, indicated for domestic environments, thereby showing the opportunity of the workspace. However, this is a medium with special needs and requirements, and it cannot jeopardize the eye health of its users due to an emotional luminaire. The projected peak in the proposal of a lighting system composed of two types of lighting that balance the needs of the workspace. To this end, an analysis of the workspace and its needs was made, culminating in the design in a versatile and pragmatic way. The system consists of a support structure and two luminaires, designed to be efficient and innovative, balancing the emotional and visual aspect of the user. One of the lamps mimics the sun and the other maintains the balance of the luminance levels of the space. This draft comes after a market analysis of solar mimic lighting fixtures and, its shape and purpose were outlined by the analysis of the selected target audience and space, the office. After the ideal functioning of the product was idealized, we sought to know the shape and elements that can materialize it, from the design of the shape to the design of its electrical system. Throughout the project, the disciplines of design and engineering were addressed in the methodology and procedures used to carry out this project conceptually.
Atualmente, o ser humano passa cerca de 90% do seu tempo em espaços interiores e, por isso, cada vez mais os espaços são projetados por forma a promover conforto e luz natural. A falta de um espaço interior de qualidade pode estar na origem de vários problemas de saúde, tais como a inibição de hormonas que afetam o ritmo cardíaco, humor e produtividade. Deste modo, os especialistas consideram o ser humano uma espécie biofólica, uma vez que é dependente da natureza. Ademais, a proximidade a grandes janelas, materiais naturais e plantas promovem a sua saúde e bem-estar. Neste sentido, este projeto procura dar resposta a esta problemática ao desenvolver iluminação para um espaço sem janelas. O projeto foi concebido para um espaço de trabalho, tendo em conta que é onde um cidadão comum passa a maior parte do seu dia, assim como, onde o conforto e a produtividade são essenciais. Numa abordem inicial ao tema, a pesquisa por projetos de problemática idêntica demonstrou que existem já diversas propostas neste âmbito, indicadas para ambientes domésticos, evidenciando, assim, a oportunidade do espaço de trabalho. No entanto, este é um meio com necessidades e requisitos especiais, não podendo colocar em causa a saúde ocular dos seus utilizadores em função de uma luminária emocional. O projeto culmina na proposta de um sistema de iluminação composto por dois tipos de iluminação que equilibram as necessidades do espaço de trabalho. Para tal, foi feita uma análise do espaço de trabalho e das suas necessidades, culminando no desenho de uma forma versátil e pragmática. O sistema é composto por uma estrutura de apoio e duas luminárias, concebidas para serem eficientes e inovadoras, equilibrando a vertente emocional e visual do utilizador. Uma das luminárias mimetiza o sol e a outra mantem o equilíbrio dos níveis de luminância do espaço. Esta proposta surge depois de uma análise de mercado de luminárias de mimetização solar e a sua forma e propósito foram delineadas pela análise do publico e espaço alvo selecionado, o escritório. Após idealizado o funcionamento ideal do produto, procurou-se conhecer a forma e elementos que o podem materializar, desde a o desenho da forma á conceção do seu sistema elétrico. Ao longo do projeto abordaram-se as disciplinas do design e da engenharia na metodologia e procedimentos usados por via a realizar conceptualmente este projeto.

The major goals of this research were to design an windowless environmental controlled geese breeder house in which the average illumination was 30 lx, the average wind velocity was 2 m/s and efficiency of pad exceeded 70 % to meet the cooling requirement for geese house. The requirement of cooling effect was set as the temperature of air leaving pad being lower than 30 ℃ when ambient air temperature was 36.5 ℃, and relative humidity was 46 %. That provided an environment for geese breeder to proceed reproduction regulation in hot climate of summer as well as investigate actual appliance effect of environmental controlled geese breeder house. The numbers of lamp and fan, the suitable ventilation rate, the area, height and thickness of pad and the volume of water-storage tank were determined bused on the design criterion by theoretical calculation. Prototype geese breeder house which were used to verify the design goals was built according to the design and experiment. For good egg production of geese breeder it was needed to breed in reproduction regulation plan, including illumination time and temperature control of inside geese house. For analysis of performance behavior of geese breeder, and economic benefits of environmental control geese breeder house, the factors of environment, quantity of production, death, fertilized egg, gooslincs hatched, expenditure, and sell out of gooslincs and price were measured and recorded. Experimental results showed that the average illumination of the tested house was 38.42 ± 4.97 lx, the average wind velocity was 2.08 ± 0.28 m/s, and the average efficiency of pad was 85.33 ± 6.43 %. In actual appliance, temperature of inside lower than that of outside when outside temperature was higher than 30 ℃, temperature of inside higher than that of outside when outside temperature was lower than 25 ℃ and the relative humidity in the geese house was maintained above 80%. When ambient air temperature was reached 37.2 ℃, cooling of pad can reduce temperature 7.2 ℃, hence cooling efficiency was reached 74.2 %. Therefore the temperature of air into geese house could be reduced effectively. As the performance of geese breeder laying rate reached above 5 % at May 25th and lower than 10 % at December 10th. The productive period was 200 days, the average laying rate was 33.2 %, and the average laying quantity was 66.3. Those performances were better than the average values of laying in Taiwan. The egg being fertilized was decreased with the increase of illumination time. The average fertility was 80 %. The results were in agreement with reproduction regulation by illumination control. Cost of each goose was 1790.8 NTD, economical income was 3068 NTD, hence economical benefit was 1277.2 NTD form begin to breed geese through reproduction regulation to stop provided feed in the environmental control geese house. The cost and reward was positive relation. Death of geese and cost of production could be reduced by improvement of breed management, then economic benefit could be increased by improvement egg production, egg fertilized and hatched.

Develop a windowless livestock buildings excess energy recycling - Small scale wind turbine system application prototype architecture in this study. In general, ventilation fan must be set at windowless livestock buildings. There a stable wind energy, the rear end of the ventilation fan. In this study, the wind turbines set at the rear of the ventilation fan. And set the wind guide and rectifying mechanism between the ventilation fan and wind turbine. This study established wind turbine control system mode with the battery used in lighting equipment. The internal control system designed to manage battery charge and discharge. The establishment of the control system, the use of electricity generated from wind turbines to the windowless livestock buildings lighting equipment.That approach to achieve the effect of energy recycling and reuse. This application prototype model of wind turbine system generating power for 55.5 W, in other words to produce 486 kWh of electricity per year and decreased by approximately 260 kg CO2e. In this study, not only to achieve the purpose of energy recovery and reuse, as well as practical work in carbon reduction.

Fifteen cleantech professionals—investors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, brokers—sit around a large table, at the head of which stand two entrepreneurs, ready to make an investment pitch for their product, the Vegawatt. The Vegawatt is a waste-to-energy technology targeting small, fast food restaurants. It converts used fry grease into fuel for a combined heat and power diesel generator, which in turn produces hot water and electricity. Waste in, energy out. Beckett’s television play Quad, ‘a piece for players, light and percussion’, is one of the most mechanical and technical works of all his plays. Yet ‘the essence of technology’, as Heidegger writes, ‘is nothing technological’, since it presupposes metaphysics. While Beckett suggests the centre of the square ‘E’ to be ‘a danger zone’, in the drafts he describes the movement of players as ‘counter-clockwise’ and the centre ‘E’ as a ‘dramatized taboo’. This chapter explores the origins and the importance of this ‘clockwise’ movement as well as the ‘dramatized taboo’, comparing Quad with his early novel Murphy. This reveals Beckett’s preoccupation with ‘the incommensurability of side and diagonal’ as a common ground of both works, which allows for a discussion of Beckett’s obsessions with clocks that represent Dante’s cosmology; Leibniz’s pre-established harmony between windowless monads; and with Geulincx’s occasionalism and his subordination to God, concerning ‘nihil’ (Latin for nothing) and ‘free will under determinism’.

Resumen
The target system, whose function is to supply an external neutron source to the ADS sub-critical core to sustain the neutron chain reaction, is the most critical part of an ADS being subject to severe thermo-mechanical loading and material damage due to accelerator protons and fission neutrons. A windowless option was chosen as reference configuration for the target system of the LBE-cooled ADS within the European PDS-XADS project in order to reduce the material damage and to increase its life. This document deals with the thermo-hydraulic results of the calculations performed with STAR-CD and RELAP5 codes for studying the behaviour of the windowless target system during off-normal operating conditions. It also reports a description of modifications properly implemented in the codes needed for this analysis. The windowless target system shows a satisfactory thermo-hydraulic behaviour for the analysed accidents, except for the loss of both pumps without proton beam shut-off and the beam trips lasting more than one second.

Resumen
In recent years, the morphological characteristics and stabilization methods of free interface in liquid windowless target become hot research topics in accelerator driven subcritical system (ADS). Based on the structure design of a certain windowless spallation target, CFX program was used to simulate and analyze its free interface character. The method of k-ε turbulence model, Cavitation model and VOF method were used to study the flow characteristic of liquid lead-bismuth alloy (LBE) with cavitation phase change and to analyze the free interface morphology characteristics of coolant in the target area. It is concluded that the target region form two stable free interfaces when fluid outlet pressure is in the range of 10000–40000Pa and fluid entrance velocity is in the range of 0.5–1.2m/s. The flow field near the free interface structure is complex. The vortex region appears, and the disorders in the vortex flow pattern leads to fluctuation of the free interface. After establishing stable free interface morphology, the heat transfer characteristics of windowless target was further analyzed.
