Abstract Currently, pressure sensor technology is developing rapidly and has been integrated into all aspects of human scientific and technological activities. For pressure sensors, device performance is often significantly improved when different force-sensitive layers and microstructures are combined. The material selection of the force-sensitive layer and the structural design of the sensor are the vital factors to determine its performance. In this work, we combine micro-pyramidal polydimethylsilanes (PDMS) with force-sensitive layers of four different materials: Au, rGO (reduced Graphene Oxide), GNWs (Graphene Nano Walls) and CNTs (Carbon Nanotubes). GNWs were combined with the Au force-sensitive layer to form a new structural system, GAC. In this way, five sensors with different force-sensitive layers were prepared from both structural and material dimensions. Through our tests, GAC achieved the best performance among the five systems. Furthermore, it shows excellent advantages in body, voice, and pressure recognition.

TPS5119 Background: Individuals with mHSPC may experience adverse events and decreased quality of life associated with ADT. LIBERTAS, the first degendered and transgender-inclusive PC study, explores the use of APA + intermittent ADT as an ADT-minimizing approach in pts who achieve prostate-specific antigen (PSA) <0.2 ng/mL after 6 mo of APA + ADT. mHSPC has been studied almost exclusively in cisgender men. With inclusion of transgender pts who may be receiving feminizing gender-affirming care (GAC), reducing ADT must be approached with deliberate care. LIBERTAS uses broad eligibility criteria to allow inclusion of pts under-represented in clinical trials, including Black and African American pts, transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse pts and pts with disabilities. Methods: A patient voice exercise was conducted to gather feedback from pts and caregivers on their experiences with mHSPC and on the proposed study design. All gender-specific language was removed. SOGI (sexual orientation and gender identity) data are collected and reported in the United States. Study site staff are offered healthcare-specific sexual and gender minority cultural sensitivity training. This prospective, international, open-label, randomized study is enrolling pts with metastatic PC documented by conventional imaging, ≤3 mo ADT before enrollment (except as part of GAC), and ECOG PS 0/1; pts with ECOG PS 2/3 are eligible if their score is related to stable disabilities (eg, spinal cord injury, blindness) and not to PC/PC therapy. Pts with bilateral orchiectomy are excluded (except as part of GAC). Stratification factors: tumor volume and prior treatment for localized PC. Pts with confirmed PSA <0.2 ng/mL after initial 6-mo treatment with APA 240 mg/d + ADT are randomized 1:1 to APA 240 mg/d + intermittent ADT or APA + continuous ADT. ADT can be restarted until radiographic progression (assessed by conventional imaging) for pts in the intermittent ADT group with new/worsening cancer symptoms, PSA increase to >10 ng/mL (or return to baseline when PSA <10 ng/mL before ADT), or PSA doubling time <6 mo. Outcomes of pts undergoing medical or surgical GAC are evaluated descriptively as a separate cohort. Primary end points: radiographic progression-free survival and hot flash frequency and severity score at 18 mo from randomization. Secondary end points include findings from electronic patient-reported outcomes completed on a mobile device, digital health assessments measuring physical activity and sleep (measured from a wrist-worn device), and neurocognitive function measured using touchscreen-based interactive assays. An independent data monitoring committee will review safety data. ~333 pts will be enrolled over 2 yrs at 86 sites in 9 countries. Clinical trial information: NCT05884398 .

As social media platforms have increased their role as content moderators, alternative social media platforms have emerged with fewer rules and policies on moderating content. One such platform is Gab, a social media platform similar to Twitter that champions free speech with minimal standards on content. Early research has linked this platform with alt-right, hate speech, conspiracy theories, and other alternative content that is sometimes marginalized in mainstream social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. In an effort to provide a means for researchers to study this platform, we introduce a database of 37,012,061 posts (with additional edit histories), 24,551,804 comments, and 819,957 user profiles webscraped from Gab between August 2016 and December 2018. In this paper, we outline our data collection process, describe the data, consider the ethics of our data collection process, and provide suggested avenues of inquiry for researchers interested in analyzing our database.

Quel est le poids des facteurs politiques dans l’allocation des financements associatifs ? Dans quelle mesure le soutien apporté ou retiré à certains acteurs associatifs est-il guidé par une rationalité politique plutôt que technique ou gestionnaire ? Ces questions n’ont, à ce jour, suscité que peu de travaux empiriques, les associations étant souvent délaissées par les recherches sur le clientélisme ou les études de l’action publique locale, si ce n’est pour souligner leur contribution à la « participation citoyenne ». À partir d’une étude systématique de l’ensemble des subventions attribuées par la Ville de Roubaix sur une période de dix ans, cet article interroge la carrière financière des associations et leur dépendance éventuelle aux cycles électoraux et aux vicissitudes du jeu politique. Complétées par un matériau qualitatif, ces données donnent à voir la relative inertie de financements détachés de considérations politiques, et ce faisant la relative rareté de pratiques qui pourraient être labellisées comme du « clientélisme associatif ». L’enquête donne néanmoins à voir certains mécanismes de récompenses et de sanctions – notamment financières – qui contribuent à l’entretien du pouvoir local et à la mise à distance du politique par les associations.

The article is a discussion of the unforeseen effects of policies that Florida’s Department of Corrections has enacted over the past thirty years, specifically those concerning inmate movements to, inside, and from the institutional dining areas. It addresses the erosion of social norms among the incarcerated population as external rules have replaced informal social contracts, and the ways that prison administrators have exploited racial tensions to maintain control. The incarcerated author hopes to add an autoethnographic voice to the discussion in the literature of power dynamics in the third-largest prison system in the world.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the possibility of liberation of female subalterns in Bapsi Sidhwa’s Cracking India, based on Spivak's article, “Can Subaltern Speak?”. What Spivak is trying to argue is that the female subaltern has lost her voice in another language system that can speak beyond the existing language system of the ruling class. They cannot speak unless the subaltern is defined as a dominated group and possesses a language system of power. Subalterns cannot escape the regime itself, but nevertheless, they can create cracks and change the system by constantly resisting it. The female characters in Cracking India are victims of the colonialist ideology that has been denigrated because of their ethnicity and religion, and at the same time they are victims of the patriarchal ideology. I intend to pay a special attention to the voice of Ayha, a woman who is constrained by the ruling system and the target of oppression due to the political and religious divisions in India. Ayha is in a state of double bondage due to the tragic social environment of religious rifts and the authority of the patriarchal ideology. Nevertheless, Indian women who Lenny sees do not remain victims like Ayha and give in to men. Typically, Lenny's mother, Seti, is portrayed as a woman who has the power to oppose the power of men. Breaking away from the typical female role of the patriarchal ideology, she does not remain silent to help women in need, and tries to change, showing an independent female image to help women in need. In conclusion, through Cracking India, it can be seen that female subalterns are in a state of double bondage due to the tragic social environment of religious rift and patriarchal ideology, but the desire to recognize the self and the possibility of their liberation through the process of evolution goes on

Introduction: Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a benign expansile osteolytic lesion, characterized by a blood-filled cavity in the bone. Giant ABC (GABC) is an uncommon condition due to the delayed presentation of an ABC that is difficult to handle when it occurs in long weight-bearing bones due to its aggressive nature. The common treatment relies on total resection of tumor with reconstruction of the resultant defect. Case Report: We present the results of 5 cases of GABCs of long bones managed with non-vascularized fibular graft in a cross-beam fashion along with internal fixation. All patients achieved complete consolidation of the lesion by 12 months along with full incorporation of the graft with good-excellent musculoskeletal tumor society scores. None of the patients had recurrence/pathological fracture till 2 years of follow-up. Conclusion: We suggest the method of using a non-vascularized fibula graft in a cross-beam fashion to reconstruct the void from the resection of long-bone GABC as a safe, reliable technique with excellent functional and radiological results. À travers l’étude d’un segment de mise en œuvre d’une réforme foncière au Bénin, cet article discute du changement induit par les activités réformatrices sur les institutions. Il analyse les ambiguïtés, rapports de forces et incertitudes qui émaillent les processus de centralisation du pouvoir étatique au travers de deux grands résultats. Tout d’abord, il apparaît que cette réforme foncière produit de la centralité en dépossédant les échelons locaux de leurs compétences au profit d’une nouvelle agence déconcentrée, suscitant des frustrations de la part des acteurs décentralisés qui tentent de renégocier leur rôle dans cette gouvernance. Ensuite, c’est au niveau national que les changements induits par la réforme se donnent le plus à voir avec la création d’un cadastre mobilisant différentes catégories d’acteurs publics et privés pour son implémentation. Cet instrument constitue un dispositif de mise en lisibilité du territoire pour l’administration centrale étatique et l’analyse de sa fabrique révèle les approximations et blocages qui jalonnent son développement.

Les composés organiques volatils (COV), sous-produits du métabolisme émis par l’ensemble desorganismes vivants, sont volatils en conditions environnementales en raison de leurs propriétés physicochimiques.Chez les bactéries, et notamment celles du genre Pseudomonas, les COV sontprincipalement étudiés pour leur capacité à inhiber des microorganismes phytopathogènes. Leur rôledans la communication, un mécanisme indispensable à la coordination des communautés bactérienneslors de la formation de biofilm, est rarement considéré.L'objectif des travaux menés est l'analyse les COVs produits par la souche Pseudomonas fluorescensMFE01 et leur impact sur sa communication. Les voies de communication de MFE01 sont peu connueset ne correspondent pas aux systèmes déjà décrits chez de nombreuses bactéries du genrePseudomonas. La caractérisation du bouquet de molécules émises par MFE01 met en évidence uneforte émission de 1-undécène. Un mutant du gène undA, codant l’enzyme de synthèse du 1-undécène,n’émet plus ce COV et a une capacité réduite à former des biofilms. L’exposition de ce mutant à du 1-undécène exogène restaure la formation de biofilm. Le 1-undécène serait donc une molécule decommunication intraspécifique chez P. fluorescens MFE01. Le gène undA semble être en opéron avecle gène rbdA, codant un senseur putatif. Nous formulons l’hypothèse que Rbda serait impliqué dans laperception du 1-undécène et que la transduction du signal s’effectuerait via la synthèse de di-guanosinemonophosphate cyclique, un messager secondaire connu pour induire la formation de biofilm.L’étude de la voie de régulation Gac/Rsm, connue pour gouverner le métabolisme et la communicationdes Pseudomonas, montre qu’elle module fortement la quantité et le profil de COV émis par MFE01.Cette voie pilote chez MFE01 l’émission de 1-undécène et l’inhibition aérienne du pathogène humainLegionella pneumophila ainsi que celle du phytopathogène Phytophtora infestans. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), by-products of metabolism emitted by all living organisms, arevolatile under environmental conditions due to their physicochemical properties. In bacteria, especiallythose of the genus Pseudomonas, VOCs are mainly studied for their ability to inhibit phytopathogenicmicroorganisms. Their role in communication, which is a crucial mechanism for coordinating bacterialcommunities during biofilm formation, is understudied.This research focuses on investigating VOCs emitted by the Pseudomonas fluorescens MFE01 strainand their implications in its communication. The uncharacterized communications pathways of MFE01are untypical and does not involve pathways already described in others Pseudomonas.Characterization of molecules the emitted by MFE01 reveals a huge emission of 1-undecene. A mutantlacking the undA gene, responsible for 1-undecene synthesis, no longer emits this VOC and exhibitsreduced biofilm formation capabilities. Exposure of this mutant to exogenous 1-undecene restoresbiofilm formation, Therefore, 1-undecene seems to be an intraspecific communication molecule in P.fluorescens MFE01. The undA gene seems to be in an operon with the rbdA gene, encoding a putativesensor. We hypothesize that Rbda is involved in 1-undecene perception with signal transduction likelyoccurring via the synthesis of cyclic di-guanosine monophosphate, a known secondary messenger thatinduces biofilm formation.Additionally, the study of the Gac/Rsm regulatory pathway, a critical regulator of metabolism andcommunication in Pseudomonas, demonstrates that it strongly modulates the quantity and profile ofVOCs emitted by MFE01. This pathway governs 1-undecene emission and the aerial inhibition of humanpathogen Legionella pneumophila and phytopathogen Phytophtora infestans by MFE01. At least oneVOC, possibly 2-tridecanone and/or 2-undecanone, may activate the expression of the gacS gene,which encodes the principal sensor of the Gac/Rsm pathway

Les nanostructures de polymères suscitent un grand intérêt grâce à leurs propriétés uniques comme le facteur de forme important. Cette propriété est essentielle pour l’utilisation dans des domaines où les interactions de surface sont mises en jeu. Un exemple d’une telle application est la détection de gaz. La polyaniline (PANi) s’est montrée prometteuse pour l’utilisation dans les capteurs d’ammoniac. La synthèse conventionnelle (chimique ou électrochimique) de nanofibres de PANi a été largement décrite dans la littérature mais cette voie possède de nombreux inconvénients. Parmi eux, figurent plusieurs étapes de synthèse (la synthèse, la purification, le dépôt sur le substrat) et l’utilisation de produits chimiques (oxydants, acides) peu respectueux de l’environnement. La polymérisation assistée par plasma froid (PECVD) permet de s’en affranchir car seul le monomère est utilisé qui se polymérise directement sur le substrat. Ainsi, ce travail de thèse a pour objectif d’élaborer des nanostructures de polyaniline plasma tout en conservant au mieux l’unité monomère dans le polymère. Le paramètre essentiel qui détermine le processus de nanostructuration est la puissance de décharge. A forte puissance, des films fortement structurés sont obtenus mais les molécules de monomère sont totalement fragmentées. En revanche, une faible puissance conduit à des films avec conservation de l’entité monomère mais sans structure morphologique particulière. Nous avons développé une méthode permettant de combiner les avantages de chaque régime : ce procédé dit « bottom-up » est réalisé en variant la puissance au cours du dépôt selon deux ou trois étapes. Les paramètres qui influencent les structures chimique et morphologique sont déterminés et les procédés à deux et trois étapes sont comparés. Par ailleurs, la synthèse « top-down » de nanostructures par gravure de la couche mince de PANi est également étudiée en fonction des paramètres du plasma (puissance et temps de décharge, débit du gaz de gravure et polarisation du substrat). Finalement, nous avons synthétisé, en phase plasma, des nanocomposites associant les nanostructures de PANi et des particules métalliques de Pd déposées par pulvérisation. La structure chimique des films de PANi est caractérisée par les spectroscopies UV-Vis, IR-TF et XPS. Pour mettre en évidence la nanostructuration des couches minces, les microscopies MEB et AFM sont utilisées. Cette dernière permet également de calculer la valeur de rugosité ainsi que la surface spécifique de la PANi. La spectroscopie EDX est utilisée pour mettre en évidence et pour quantifier le palladium dans les films synthétisés. Les couches obtenues sont finalement caractérisées sous gaz par mesures de variation d’absorbance afin de déterminer leur sensibilité et leur temps de réponse à l’ammoniac
Polymer nanostructures are of great interest due to their unique properties such as high shape factor. This property is essential for applications where surface interactions are involved. One example of such an application is the gas detection. Polyaniline (PANi) has been shown as a promising material for ammonia detection. Conventional synthesis (chemical orelectrochemical) of PANi nanofibers has been widely described in the literature but this way has many drawbacks. They include several steps (synthesis, purification, deposition on the substrate) and the use of chemicals (oxidants, acids) which are not environmentally friendly. The polymerization assisted by cold plasma (PECVD) allows overcoming it, as only themonomer is used and is directly polymerized on the substrate. This thesis work aims to develop plasma polyanilinenanostructures while retaining the monomer unit in the polymer. The key parameter that determines thenanostructuring process is the discharge power. At high power, highly structured films are obtained but the monomer molecules are totally fragmented. On the contrary, low power allows conservation of the monomer unit but no surface structuring is observed. We developed a method which combines the advantages of each regime. This "bottom-up" process consists to vary the input power during deposition in two or three stages. Parameters influencing the chemical and morphological structures are determined and the two and three steps methods are compared. Furthermore, the "top-down" synthesis of nanostructures by etching the PANi layer is also studied according to the plasma parameters (power and discharge time, etching gas flow rate and substrate bias). Finally, in plasma phase, we synthesized nanocomposite by combining PANi nanostructures and sputtered Pd particles. The chemical structure of the PANi films is characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, FT-IR and XPS. In order to highlight the nanostructuring of thin films, SEM and AFM microscopy areused. The latter one allows also the calculation of the roughness and specific surface of the PANi. EDX spectroscopyis used to bring out the presence of palladium and to quantify it. Finally, the obtained layers are characterized under gas byabsorbance variation measurements in order to determine their sensitivity and response time to ammonia

Lors du processus d'incinération de déchets, les polluants gazeux présents dans les fumées tels que l'acide chlorhydrique et le mercure doivent être éliminés avant d'être rejetés dans le milieu extérieur. Une étude menée sur les fumées d'usines d'incinération de déchets ménagers (température des fumées : 200-250°C) ou de déchets industriels spéciaux (t = 350-400°C), teste quatre réactifs alcalins dans deux procédés de traitement des fumées par voie semi-humide, en vue de neutraliser l'acide chlorhydrique. Les réactifs sont la chaux hydratée, la soude, le bicarbonate et le carbonate de sodium. Les solutions alcalines, pulvérisées en fines gouttes, absorbent et neutralisent ainsi HCl, conduisant à la formation d'un résidu solide. En parallèle a ce travail, une étude de l'adsorption du mercure gazeux sur un charbon actif à base de noix de coco est réalisée sur un réacteur pilote a lit fixe. La fumée d'incinération prélevée (débit 2000 l/h) passe dans le dispositif à des températures variant entre 150 et 200°C. Différentes durées d'exposition sont testées pour déterminer la saturation du charbon actif par le mercure. Un modèle d'évaporation et un modèle d'absorption de HCl sont appliqués et représentent de façon satisfaisante les évolutions expérimentales des taux d'absorption de HCl en fonction du débit du liquide ou du facteur stœchiométrique. Un modèle d'adsorption du mercure par le charbon actif est appliqué pour la détermination du coefficient de transfert global et de la constante d'équilibre d'adsorption.

La voie de l’acide γ-aminobutyrique (GABA) est une alternative pour la conversion d’acide glutamique en acide succinique qui met en jeu une glutamate décarboxylase, une GABA amino-transférase et une succinate semi-aldéhyde deshydrogénase, codées respectivement chez S. Cerevisiae par GAD1, UGA1 et UGA2. L’analyse fonctionnelle de cette voie montre qu’elle ne contribue que de façon limitée au catabolisme de l’acide glutamique au cours de la fermentation œnologique. Par contre, le GABA exogène est efficacement converti en acide succinique par Uga2p et d'Uga1p, avec un rendement maximal de 0,7 mole/mole. Une partie du GABA est par ailleurs accumulée dans la cellule, très probablement dans la vacuole. Enfin, nous avons mis en évidence une voie alternative à Uga2p pour la dégradation du GABA, permettant sa réduction en acide γ-hydroxybutyrique (GHB), ensuite utilisé en tant que monomère pour la formation de polyhydroxybutyrates (PHB). L’impact du catabolisme du GABA sur le métabolisme de la levure a ensuite été étudié au niveau métabolique et transcriptomique. L’assimilation de GABA affecte l’expression de gènes impliqués dans des fonctions métaboliques (voie GABA, acides carboxyliques, composés azotés, stérols) et s’accompagne d’une réorientation des flux au niveau de l’acide pyruvique, cohérente avec les variations d’expression observées. Ces modifications, qui favorisent la voie TCA au détriment de la voie acide acétique/éthanol, traduisent la réponse métabolique de la levure à une demande accrue en d’acide 2-cétoglutarique pour la transamination du GABA d’une part, et d’autre part, aux variations de la disponibilité en cofacteurs rédox liées à l’activité de la déshydrogénase Uga2p. En plus d’apporter un nouvel éclairage sur le fonctionnement de cette voie métabolique et son rôle physiologique, ce travail révèle que le GABA, acide aminé présent dans le moût de raisin, peut être à l’origine d’une part importante de l’acide succinique des vins
The γ-aminobutyrate (GABA) shunt is an alternative route for the conversion of glutamate into succinate, which involves a glutamate decarboxylase, a GABA amino-transferase and a succinate semi-aldehyde dehydrogenase, encoded in S. Cerevisiae by GAD1, UGA1 and UGA2 respectively. A functional analysis of this pathway showed that glutamate is metabolised through this pathway at a very low rate. On the other hand, exogenous GABA is efficiently converted into succinate via Uga2p and Uga1p, with a yield up to 0,7 mol/mol. A significant part of GABA is accumulated intracellularly, probably in the vacuolar compartment. In addition, we demonstrated the existence in yeast of an alternative pathway for GABA degradation, which involves its reduction in γ-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), this compound being used as a monomer for the formation of polyhydroxybutyrates (PHB). The impact of GABA catabolism on yeast metabolism was then investigated at the metabolic and transcriptomic levels. Genes differentially expressed in the presence of GABA were mostly involved in metabolic functions (GABA pathway, carboxylic acids, nitrogen compounds, sterols). The assimilation of GABA resulted in fluxes redistribution at the pyruvate node, which was well correlated with the transcriptional changes. These modifications, which favour the TCA pathway at the expense of the ethanol/acetate route might reflect the metabolic response of yeast to a higher demand for α-ketoglutarate, used for GABA transamination and to the changes in the availability in redox cofactors due to the dehydrogenase activity of Uga2p. In addition of providing new insights on the role of the GABA pathway in yeast, this work also highlights the role of GABA, which is found in grape must, as a significant source of succinic acid in wine

L'industrie gazière est très peu développée hors de l'Amérique du nord, de l'Europe et du Japon, or la croissance de ces marchés est contrainte. Pourtant, le gaz naturel est une énergie abondante et appréciée des consommateurs; de plus, son cout de production est souvent faible. C'est pourquoi les meilleures perspectives de croissance de l'industrie gazière mondiale résident dans la création et le développement de nouveaux marchés dans les PVD localisés à proximité des ressources. La quasi-absence d'industrie gazière dans cette zone économique s'explique notamment par les difficultés économiques et institutionnelles que posent sa mise en oeuvre initiale et son fonctionnement dans le long terme : un facteur sur lequel il est possible d'agir. Pour se poser le problème de manière pertinente il faut adopter une démarche analytique fondée sur la reconnaissance des structures industrielles spécifiques de l'industrie gazière lors de sa création dans un PVD. Une telle démarche exige de prendre en compte non seulement les structures industrielles et les configurations de marche mais également les modalités d'interaction entre les firmes et leur environnement. Le concept de méso-système dynamique permet de représenter le mode de fonctionnement du sous-système productif de génération d'électricité à partir du gaz naturel. L'analyse transactionnelle éclaire les enjeux lies aux modalités opératoires des interfaces entre les trois stades constitutifs du sous-système productif. Le modèle de l'échange bilatéral et l'analyse des contrats de long terme pratiques aux Etats-Unis permettent de réévaluer le rôle des contrats. Il ressort de l'analyse que les importants couts de transaction observes peuvent être réduits
Up to now, the development of natural gas industry has been limited mostly to North America, Europe and Japan. Natural gas in widely appreciated as an energy source due to its abundance, physical characteristics and low production cost. Because of high transportation cost, the future development of the natural gas industry is closely tied the creation and growth of new gas markets in dc's located close to production areas. To date, here has been little gas industry development in these zones due to organisational, structural and economic barriers which driven transaction costs. These problems, however, can be overcome rising industrial organisation economics. The analytical process focuses on firms, industry structures, market configurations and heir interactions. Transaction cost analyses helps us to understand the links between different upstream and downstream processes : namely gas production, gas transportation and electric power generation. The bilateral exchange model and analysis of long term us contracts allow us to develop a new understanding of contract's role. The analysis finally shows how to reduce transaction costs

Cette thèse est une contribution aux travaux en cours sur la valorisation du méthane, compte tenu de son importance potentielle comme matière première de l'industrie chimique. Le but de ce travail est de progresser dans la compréhension de la réaction de couplage thermique du méthane. Ce mémoire peut être divisé en deux parties: expérimentation et modélisation. Nous avons pyrolysé des mélanges CH₄-h₂ dans un réacteur considéré comme fonctionnant en régime piston. La température de pyrolyse varie entre 1200°C et 1400°C avec un temps de séjour compris entre 0,1 et 1 seconde sous 1 atmosphère. Dans ces conditions, la pyrolyse conduit a la formation d'acétylène, d'éthylène, de benzène et d'hydrogène comme produits principaux et à la formation de coke comme produit indiscernable. L'enjeu global de cette étude est donc de trouver le meilleur compromis entre une conversion suffisante du méthane et un taux de coke acceptable. Dans ce but les effets de la température, du temps de séjour, du taux de dilution par l'hydrogène et de la nature du réacteur ont été quantifiés. La réaction du cokage a également été étudiée et nous avons montré l'existence de plusieurs types de coke sur les parois du réacteur. L'effet de l'hydrogène sur les rendements en C₂et en coke a été simulé a l'aide d'un schéma cinétique et d'un code de calcul (chemkin)

La fonction majeure des bacteries lactiques en industrie laitiere est la degradation du lactose (-d-galactopyranosyl-(14)-d-glucose) en acide lactique. Le glucose issu de l'hydrolyse du lactose est metabolise par la glycolyse. La degradation du galactose peut suivre les voies du tagatose-6p et/ou de leloir. L'etude des genes gal codant pour les enzymes de la voie de leloir chez lactococcus lactis est presentee. Ces genes ont ete clones par complementation de la galactokinase d'e. Coli. Leur organisation suit l'ordre gala, galm, galk, galt et gale et ils codent respectivement pour une permease a galactose, une aldose-1-epimerase (mutarotase), la galactokinase, l'udp-glucose-hexose1p uridylyltransferase et l'udp-glucose 4-epimerase. Leurs fonctions ont ete etudiees par complementations chez e. Coli et par construction de mutants gal de l. Lactis obtenus par disruption genique ou remplacement. L'etude du mutant gale a mis en evidence le role anabolique des genes gal. Gale participe a l'interconversion de l'udp-glucose et de l'udp-galactose, molecules precurseurs dans la biosynthese des polymeres carbones de la paroi cellulaire. Le mutant gale presente une separation incomplete apres septation, caracterisee par la formation de chapelets. Les genes gal sont organises en un operon dont la transcription depend d'un promoteur regule situe en amont de gala. Un promoteur constitutif est localise en amont de gale. Deux mecanismes sont impliques dans la regulation du promoteur du gene gala. Une repression catabolique en presence de glucose et une forte induction de l'expression des genes gal en presence de galactose sont observees. Une boite cre (catabolite response element) correspondant a un site de fixation du regulateur transcriptionnel ccpa (catabolite control protein a) chevauche le site d'initiation de la transcription du gene gala. D'autre part, l'induction par le galactose suggere la presence d'un regulateur specifique de l'operon, probablement de type galr.

Gas-liquid flow may be characterised in terms of the gas void fraction, α. This is an important variable in two-phase flow, used in predicting the occurrence of flow regimes, and the associated pressure drop, and mass and heat transfer. The gas void fraction transitions in a two-phase flow system from uniform bubble flow (homogeneous) to churn-turbulent bubble flow (heterogeneous) in an open tube bubble column (OTBC) and an annular gap bubble column (AGBC) have been investigated using a vertical column with an internal diameter of 0.102 m, containing a range of concentric inner tubes which formed an annular gap; the inner tubes had diameter ratios from 0.25 - 0.69. Gas (air) superficial velocities in the range 0.014-0.200 m/s were studied. Tap water and aqueous solutions of ethanol and isopropanol, with concentrations in the range 8 - 300 ppm by mass, were used as the working liquids. Experimental results are presented to show that there are very significant differences in the mean gas void fractions measured in the OTBC and the AGBC, when operated at the same gas superficial velocity using a porous sparger. The mean gas void fraction decreases with increasing ratio of the inner to outer diameter of the annular gap column and the transition to heterogeneous flow occurs at lower gas superficial velocities and lower void fractions. Two reasons are proposed and validated by experimental investigations: (i) the presence of the inner tube causes large bubbles to form near the sparger, which destabilize the homogeneous bubbly flow and reduce the mean void fraction; this was confirmed by deliberately injecting large bubbles into a homogeneous dispersion of smaller bubbles. Moreover, (ii) the shape of the void fraction profiles changes with gap geometry, which affects the distribution parameter in the drift flux model. Radial profiles of the local void fraction were obtained using a two- and four-point conductivity probe, and were cross-sectionally averaged to give mean values that were within 12% of the volume-averaged gas void fractions obtained from changes in aerated level. The presence of alcohol inhibited the coalescence between the bubbles, and consequently increased the mean gas void fraction at a given gas superficial velocity in both the open tube and the annular gap bubble columns. This effect also extended the range of homogeneous bubbly flow and delayed the transition to heterogeneous flow. Moreover, isopropanol results gave slightly higher mean void fractions compared to those for ethanol at the same mass fraction, due to their increased carbon chain length. It was shown that the void fraction profiles in the annular gap bubble column were far from uniform, leading to lower mean void fractions than were obtained in an open tube for the same gas superficial velocity and liquid composition. The chord length measurements in the OTBC for both the tap water and alcohol solutions exhibited two trends with respect to increasing j_g: (i) at low j_g, in the homogeneous flow, an increasing function was obtained; and (ii) with further increase in j_g, a reduction in the chord length was observed. In the presence of the orifice, the results concerning mean chord lengths show a decreasing function of the bubble size with increasing j_g; this was visually demonstrated using photographs. For the AGBC, the chord lengths obtained from the conductivity probe offered evidence of the bubble size decreasing as j_g increased in the heterogeneous regime, which agreed with the findings of the OTBC. This was also confirmed using the results obtained from photographs. A novel approach for bubble size transformation was implemented to process the conductivity probe measurements. An analytical method was used as a forward transform to predict the chord length distribution from the bubble size distribution and an optimisation approach was applied as a backward transform method to obtain the bubble size distribution from the chord length distribution. The challenge was to consider a variable aspect ratio, φ, for the bubble shape, which depended on their size. The model gave excellent and reasonable predictions for the bubble sizes as their trends were identical to the trend of the chord length, and to the bubble size obtained from photographs.

Out-of-autoclave (OOA) processing of prepregs represents a promising low cost alternative to expensive autoclave processing, which today is the standard method for producing high-quality CFRP parts such as aerospace structures; however, OOA processes have a greater potential to experience problems with voids than autoclave processes do. Understanding the evolution of voids during the prepreg process, and the OOA prepreg process in particular, is a key to robust and low cost processing that can produce high quality composite parts with low porosity. The evolution of voids in prepregs is best understood as the result of interacting transport mechanisms during the debulk and cure processing steps. The most important such mechanisms are the in-plane flow of gasses through an interconnected network of voids, the diffusion of dissolved moisture within the resin, the sorption and desorption of moisture into and out of the resin, and the flow of resin into the void spaces. A large experimental project has been carried out to experimentally measure the effect of varying the parameters of the OOA process on the porosity levels of cured parts. The results of the experiments show that factors like part size, moisture content, and debulk time influence the porosity levels of parts produced. The governing transport mechanisms have been investigated and characterized, and a numerical model capable of simulating the simultaneous action of these interacting mechanisms is proposed. The numerical model was validated by comparison with experimental measurements of moisture content during a debulk, and it was shown that the proposed model is able to predict the measured values with reasonable accuracy. A method of estimating part porosity using the numerical model was proposed and its results were compared with the experimental results. The knowledge presented is then used to explain observed experimental results published by other authors and to suggest a novel processing technique.

AbstractVoice-based artificial intelligence (AI) devices transform human-computer bidirectional interactions with new touchpoints. Despite the recent release of purpose-developed in-room voice assistants for hotels, they have not been widely deployed by hospitality companies. There is limited research on the phenomenon of voice-based digital assistants and a research gap in their adoption by hotels for automating workflows and enhancing guests’ experiences. This study analysed the role of voice devices for mediating interactions between hotels and guests from both the hospitality technology providers’ and guests’ perspectives. This was done by the means of inductive qualitative research using 28 semi-structured interviews. The findings revealed that benefits associated with the application of voice-based digital assistants in hospitality outweigh the drawbacks for both hotels and guests. The paper proposes a model which illustrates the essence of speech-based interactions between hotels and guests via voice assistants. This concept contributes to human-computer interactions in the hotel industry.

The occurrence of breakage failure of secondary heat transfer tube due to overheating by sodium-water reaction in LMFBR (Liquid-Metal Fast Breeder Reactor) steam generator has been a main difficult problem to establish its public acceptance. We are studying experimentally the phenomena for the breakage failure of secondary heat transfer tube. An experiment using sodium is difficult because sodium is chemically active and nebulous. The experimental probe needs sufficiently long life in sodium-water reaction circumstance. Because the corrosive jet causes the probe wastage, the probe needs some thickness. But the thicker the probe become, the less spatial resolution it has. Prior to measurements of void fraction in sodium-water reaction circumstance, we measured the void fraction in sodium and in water without chemical reaction by the measurement of electrical resistibvity. We verified whether the probe with diameter of 0.5mm has proper spatial resolution to investigate the pattern of the void fraction distribution in sodium pool and in water. The thermocouple with diameter of 0.5mm can be used also as a wire of the probe. The diameter of nozzle was 3.5mm, and the jet of Ar gas was injected upward in sodium or water pool. The temperatures of sodium pool and water pool are about 443K and 293K respectively. The velocity of Ar gas jet at the nozzle exit was changed from 17.3m/s to 129.8m/s. We used two different kinds of probes, stainless steel wires of 0.5mm and 0.1mm diameters respectively, which were covered by silicone rubber tube of 1.0mm and 0.2mm outer diameter as insulating coating respectively. The length of detection part of the probe (L) was changed from 5.0mm to 0.5mm. We measured the void fraction along the jet-center axis. As L decreased, the void fraction always increased at every 20mm distance from the nozzle exit in sodium and in water. When L was below or equal to about 1.0mm, the void fraction did not increase. Compared the void fraction of the probe with diameter of 0.5mm with that of 0.1mm, the void fraction was almost similar within approximately 10% difference both in sodium and in water. Compared the void fraction in water with that in sodium, the distribution pattern of the void fraction in sodium showed a nearly same trend as that in water though the void fraction in sodium was totally lower than that in water. It is suggested that this trend reflects the fact the surface tension of sodium is higher than that of water. As a result, the probe with diameter of 0.5mm has a proper spatial resolution to investigate the pattern of the void fraction distribution in sodium and in water.

Resumen
This project continues research to enhance dry gas seal (DGS) reliability. Previous work reviewed failures from the literature and experience of manufacturers and end users and identified that liquid contamination was the most common cause, but it was concluded that there was insufficient quantitative data to base recommendations on for further DGS reliability enhancements. Therefore, experimental and analytical investigations were pursued to fill the void. The ultimate objective was to be able to predict DGS failures due to liquid contamination, which could lead to greater DGS reliability through improvements in design, instrumentation, and monitoring.
