Texto completoThe highways congestion is a problem which appears in a recurring way and which has a wide economic, environmental and social impact. This problem can be resolved by increasing the highways capacity or by decreasing the traffic demand. These solutions are long to operate and are very expensive. An accessible solution in the shorter run consists in implementing a traffic management system. In this optics, several actions and control measures were developed to improve the efficiency of highways. Among these actions, we can quote the ramp metering control and the dynamic speed limits. The ramp metering consists of a regulation of the vehicles flow wishing to enter on a highway from an on-ramp. We developed the DFC strategy (Différence de Flux Characterisée par une densité désirée). It aims at maintaining on the main road, at the vicinity of the on-ramp, a density lower than a target beforehand determined by means of simulations. This new strategy was compared with the existing strategies such as ALINEA and PI-ALINEA. The DFC strategy presents the interest not to generate oscillatory phenomena in the trajectories of flow and not to require parameters to be adjusted. The dynamic speed limits imposes on several sections of the main road a speed limit which depends on traffic conditions. The objective is to avoid the congestion at a downstream bottleneck. We proposed several strategies of dynamic speed limits. They use quite the METANET model of traffic. Two of the proposed methods exploit the model METANET anticipation term and the third is based on the flow. Finally, the various strategies of dynamic speed limits were used in coordination with the DFC ramp metering. The coordination allows to obtain the results better than ramp metering used only or dynamic speed limits used only

Texto completoDespite the major importance of ballast for the quality of the railway track, the ballast behaviour is still not completely understood. The purpose of this report is to describe the identification process of a settlement law of ballast and of a degradation model of the ballasted track. This report proposes a test at reduced scale (1/3), which is used to establish a settlement law of ballast in the vertical plane. To this end, similitude laws have been defined in order to describe the relation between the sizes of the real-size model and the ones characterising the reduced model. These laws are based on the material conservation - ballast - and the stress fields conservation within the specimen. The ballast specimen is submitted to a vertical loading that simulates the kind of loading applied when a TGV bogie runs on a regular track. Results of this test are used to design the settlement law of ballast that links settlement with the elastic deflection of the ballast/ground couple. Parameters that are involved in the loading, such as the quality of the ground under the ballast and the thickness of the ballast layer, are also studied. In order to complement experimental results, a numerical simulation has then been carried out. As opposed to the experiment, which is limited to a sleeper, the numerical simulation is applied to a larger portion of track. The objective is to study the evolution of track defects versus traffic. These defects may be either geometrical (due to levelling irregularities during the track set up) or linked to stiffness variations of both the ballast and the ground. Thus, a model of a running vehicle has been developed in order to calculate dynamic stresses applied on rail. These stresses are then introduced in a quasi-static model of the track which takes into account results of the ballast behaviour obtained with the experiment. Calculations of the evolution of track profiles show clearly that stiffness defects of ballast and ground cause more damage for the track than geometrical defects. This report ends with a micro-mechanical analysis of ballast. For this purpose, the ballast is considered as an assembling of rigid, discreet and tridimensional bodies. This last study shows the possibility of modelling, in a discreet way, the unilateral behaviour of ballast. The numerical model brings out results that are really close to the ones obtained through experiment

Texto completoMy thesis can be summarized in three parts: The first part consists in studying the impact of the low speed automation on driver safety, traffic capacity, fuel consumption and vehicle emissions. As a first step, a pattern of mixed road traffic is established. This one is defined by the coexistence of two driving styles: the first one is the manual and the second one is the automated. Secondly, the scenarios and the associated indicators have been developed. In this context a traffic simulator was developed with the C programming language using the OpenGl library for the graphical interface. Results show that the increase of automated vehicles presence traffic safety increases in case of accidents scenarios as well as in the case of without accidents. Moreover, the impact of automated vehicles on fuel consumption and pollutant emissions only appears when it comes to long path. The second part of my thesis consists in improving the Intelligent Driver Model (IDM) model, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) to represent the automated driving in traffic, to overcome its drawbacks. In this context, a new version is developed. The main idea is to take into account not only the state of the preceding vehicle but also the tail vehicle. This new model shows better performance in queue stabilization in terms of accelerations and velocities. The third part is devoted to the macroscopic traffic modeling in which we study the fundamental diagram. The new developed macroscopic model is based on microscopic data given by the Intelligent Driver Model simulation. Then, the traffic density and velocity were identified by non-linear regression. The new macroscopic velocity-density model has three advantages: Knowledge of the stable velocity and density within the first seconds of simulation by identifying. Ability to find existing models in the literature by setting some of its parameters. Calibration with a minimum of error for different traffic situations (eg congestion, free)

Texto completoRoad traffic contributes significantly to atmospheric emissions in urban areas, a major issue in the fight against climate change. Therefore, joint monitoring of road traffic and related emissions is essential for urban public decision-making. And beyond this kind of procedure, public authorities need methods for evaluating transport policies according to environmental criteria.Coupling traffic models with traffic-related emission models is a suitable response to this need. However, integrating this solution into decision support tools requires a refined and dynamic char-acterization of urban mobility. Cell phone data, particularly Call Detail Records, are an interesting alternative to traditional data to estimate this mobility. They are rich, massive, and available worldwide. However, their use in literature for systematic traffic characterization has remained limited. It is due to low spatial resolution and temporal sampling rates sensitive to communication behaviors. This Ph.D. thesis investigates the estimation of traffic variables necessary for calculating air emis-sions (total distances traveled and average traffic speeds) from such data, despite their biases. The first significant contribution is to articulate methods of classification of individuals with two distinct approaches of mobility reconstruction. A second contribution is developing a method for estimating traffic speeds based on the fusion of large amounts of travel data. Finally, we present a complete methodological process of modeling and data processing. It relates the methods proposed in this thesis coherently

Texto completoThe purpose of this doctoral thesis is to study models and solution techniques based on optimal control approaches to address air tra_c management problems. Motivated by the growth of air tra_c volume, and by the advances in optimal control theory, this research works focus on analysing aircraft conflict avoidance problem. This study allows development of new approaches and algorithms to help air tra_c controllers. In the framework of air tra_c management, to ensure the minimum safety distances between aircraft, in tactical phases and en-route flight configurations, this thesis focusses on a subliminal velocity regulation strategy to perform the separation, while preserving the aircraft predefined trajectories. A numerical optimal control solution approach as the direct shooting method, wherein involves a total or partial discretization of the problem, transforms the initial problem into a large scale nonlinear programming problem. This kind of methods could generate large-size optimization problems which are numerically di_cult to solve. Depending on the number of variables which involved, this approaches could be too expensive in terms of computation time. Moreover, the state-variables constraints of the problem lead to numerical di_culties, e.g., considering the indirect numerical shooting method. Tailored on aircraft conflict avoidance problems, a detection and a determination of a priori conflict zones allow the decomposition of the optimal control problem into sub-problems, easier to solve than the original one. Solving the o_-zones sub-problems can be addressed using the Pontryagin maximum principle, which allows in this case directly the solution. A combination of direct numerical shooting method and application of conditions of Pontryagin's maximum principle is proposed, and numerical experiments validate this approach
